Customer Reviews:
Why This Book Should Not Be Taken Seriously.......2007-10-06
The content of this book is very basic, but that's not what concerns me the most. Why? It's been widely reported on eBay news sites that Adam Ginsberg was banned from selling on eBay years ago and he's never been allowed to return. The situation was so serious that a group of buyers pushed eBay to If you want a lesson in what NOT to do on eBay, take a look at his old ebay user ID's such as pegasusbilliards or zdiamonds.
The ridiculously high number of negative feedbacks on those accounts are a lasting reminder of how Mr Ginsberg ran his eBay business.
Be very wary of this guy, all you need to do is search 'adam ginsberg complaints' on google and you'll see a 'trail of destruction' that he's left over the last few years. It's shocking. I believe that people like him don't suddenly stop their shady practices.
Obviously this is not a book you want to read.
If there was a choice of 0 stars, that would be my rating..........2007-06-26
Shame on you Adam for passing this off as an informative guide. If you want to waste your money like I did, buy this book. AmberBamber has said it all. I should have watched the reviews more closely. I will not even try to resell this so called "book". I have already thrown it in the trash, and at this moment it is taking up valuable space in the landfill. Shame, Shame, Shame on you Adam Ginsberg.
Great eBay book.......2007-06-14
a Gotta Have book if you are planning on starting an eBay business in your home in 30 days. Great reference for the experienced eBayer.
Garbage.......2007-06-08
This book is one big fat advertisement for Ebay and for Adam Ginsberg's other ventures. It had very little useful information, and NO information that cannot be found easily on-line or on Ebay itself. It was a waste of my time reading it. It was utterly repetitive and took forever to actually get to any sort of information or advice. There is hardly enough information in this book to fill a 10 page pamphlet...let alone a 300 page book!!! I'm just happy I got it from the library and didn't end up wasting my money as well as my time.
I wish there was actually a book out there to help people who are not complete ebay beginners. The biggest ebay woe is finding sources for products, and there is little help in this book....OH, unless you want to go to the website Adam plugs and buy more stuff from him. SURE, then he'll help you out. HA, RIGHT!
Not bad but............2007-03-27
This book is not bad. It is good for the basics of how to buy and sell on Ebay, if you have never done it, but if you have already been doing business on Ebay, its more of a review than revelation. There are a lot of great little 'tid-bits' of information and the writing style is entertaining, but nothing really eye opening or anything that makes you say hum....It talks about doing your homework and how to to post listings, the rules of ebay but a lot of this is posted on the Ebay site itself. If you are a total novice by all means pick it up, but if you have done a few deals on Ebay and pretty much know your way around you may want to skip this one.

Very Happy.......2007-07-22
The book was a lifesaver. It was in good condition and came in a timely manner.
eBay Overview.......2007-03-31
Beginners will find many useful tidbits to help them get a sucessful eBay business started. This book is a good starting point.
Useful.......2007-03-10
Some useful information on ebay. Not all ideas work for all items being sold, but gives you ideas.
Very surprised.......2007-02-07
Its a great first and reference book for beginners or if your thinking of selling anything on Ebay.
General Overview for eBay begginers.......2007-01-10
Overall this book was an easy read. The information is marginally useful. I would not say it is the best book on ebay selling, but there are bits of advice that I found useful. What I think lacked attention was the section on getting inventory, there just wasn't enough sources.
However the book does give advice on going legite and all the paper work you need to complete.
It is a good general book for starting, but not the only one you will need to run an eBay business.

Bootstrap serves as a useful reference for the prospective or newly established entrepreneur and offers valuable lessons for anyone interested in building a self-funded company, regardless of industry. Ken Hess lets the reader step into the shoes of the entrepreneur, and benefit from first hand experiences on what worked well and what failed. Written in narrative form, the book takes the reader through the evolution of a company, from one employee to one hundred, and highlights the fundamental business philosophies that enabled this entrepreneur to achieve success. The book covers topics applicable to any company, such as: how to hire the right employees, developing a functional organizational structure, creating a vision that translates into actionable objectives for every employee, managing the product portfolio, and understanding your customers needs and market trends to stay one step ahead of the competition.
Customer Reviews:
Great inspirational story for anyone thinking of starting a company.......2007-09-07
The 10 year story of starting a company scratch with no outside money, and taking it to US$17/million annual revenue and 80 employees over the span of 10 years.
Lots of great advice for any owner-CEO, especially in the high-tech software field.
A page turner for anyone thinking of starting a high-tech software company (me), or working on high-tech marketing or product development.
Lessons from real life........2007-06-10
A story that talks as much about the satisfactions, disappointments, and inter-personality issues (both people-wise and corporate-wise) involved in starting a business as it does about strategy, finance, product development, and marketing. I found it very enjoyable to read and essentially filled cover to cover with insights and lessons learned. I would highly recommended it. Read other books to learn the details of running a business; Read this one to expose yourself to one man's hard-earned wisdom.
Bootstrap, by Kenneth Hess.......2007-02-26
This is a thoroughly insightful chronology of the author's journey from employee to technology start-up entrepreneur, and back around again (though substantially wealthier). Business tactics, mistakes, family life, and attendant emotions are the main topics.
I'd like to operate my own business someday and I've dog-eared numerous pages of this book to refer back to for insights like:
"A product's sales volume is like a rolling snowball. As the snowball tumbles along, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. In a similar fashion, having a higher sales volume at one retailer makes it all that much easier to obtain distribution at yet another retailer, further increasing sales. Higher volumes also make it more cost-effective to do sales promotions, which in turn increase sales. A collection of [mediocre] products would not have this snowball effect, but one single, strong product would."
Interesting but not particularly educational.......2007-02-07
An interesting book that would have been more useful had it delved into some of the 'mistakes' a bit more. Hess makes it all sound so simple, a straight, clear path that was always obvious to him. Any mistakes (like new products started and abandonded) are dealt with in a very cursory way. As the owner of a bootstrap software company I was hoping for more insight and to learn a thing or two. I was entertained (athough slightly irritated by some of it) but would not really recommend it other than as a bit of light reading. I bought this book because of the rave reviews on the Amazon site, but would have to say that overall I was disappointed. All those people who provided 5 star reviews clearly need to get out a bit more and read something of substance for a change!
Bootstrap.......2007-01-22
This book was recommended for me to give to my friend as a gift.
I have not read the book. Sally Bidlack

Growing Pains : Transitioning from an Entrepreneurship to a Professionally Managed Firm.......2007-03-09
This is a great book for anyone in business. It offers tools such as the Growing Pains Questionnaire that you can use in your organization to gather valuable information to work from.
Textbookish but useful.......2006-08-30
This is a book about an important topic - the transitions compnies must go through, from the struggle for surival to becoming a large, mature company. It contains a very useful and credible model in the form of a pyramid depicting the 'normal' growth stages of a company, beginning with defining product/market and ending with establishing a corporate culture. Two noticeable shortcomings: the authors seem to largely ignore strategy and business models in their description of the growth path, and second, it is written in a very lieless and textbookish style. The management jargon rolls on and on, dulling the reader's mind, and making him wonder if he is reading the same page again and again. The entire approach is extremely conventional, with very little appreciation for more modern theories of management. Overall, a good book, not great.
A High-level Roadmap for Building a "Professional" Business.......2005-11-30
Flamholtz (the author) does and excellent job of describing the various stages of organizational growth. In each stage he describes what an organization must be doing in order to grow into the next level. The book provides plenty of real-world examples that Flamholtz has himself been a part of. Flamholtz also does a great job of interjecting his business street smarts. The guy understands how to grow a business and he does an even better job of laying it out for the reader in this book through frameworks and human resource concepts.
A Must Read..........2002-01-30
This book is a must read for anyone in business. For the entrepreneur, it can be used as a guide. For the more experienced business person, it can be used as a dose of reality. Having just completed my MBA and writing my thesis on this very topic, I only wish I had read this book 6 months earlier.
The authors provide an excellent framework for growing a business along with relevant case studies. And while it may look like a typical text book, it is less theory than most. This is one to be kept for years to come!
Thin on ideas, long on text.......2001-05-07
After having spent three years working at a pretty disorganized dot.com, I wanted to learn more about the right and wrong ways that young firms grow up. This book presents a fair framework that charts a company's growth, though it assumes that the troubles start when too many orders pour in and sales do not result in profits. (Not the case at a dot.com)
Firms are classified into four stages of development, and the text describes the good and bad of each. Some methodologies are presented for "scoring" the company for an offhand appraisal of its strengths and situation. (Kind of like the CMM scale, I guess)
But the worst part about the book was how tedious it was to read. The author spends hundreds of pages explaining just a few core concepts. The text describes, on and on, what the author is going to say next, then says it, and then reminds you about it for page after page. Just get to the point!

I received this book in a reasonable amount of time and in the condition promised. Thanks!

THIS BOOK IS NECESSARY FOR ALL INTERIOR DESIGNERS, JUST ABOUT EVERY FORM NECESSARY TO START AND RUN A BUSINESS IS IN THIS BOOK. THIS BOOK SHOULD SHOULD ALSO BE USED FOR INTERIOR DESIGN BUSINESS PRACTICES COURSES
Business Forms for Interior Designers.......2007-01-05
Book was a help to understand what forms would be useful for an owner of an interior design business. the book contained information on how the form is used, an example of the form. a cd was included that contained all forms covered in the book. this was most useful. To be honest, the forms were very basic and did not take advantage of color printers or fancy fonts. I used the forms I needed as a model to create a better versions in microsoft excel. If you are looking for basic forms to provide your clients and vendors, this book contains all that you need. If you need something alittle fancier, and are good with your computer, model your own from what is provided. I would still rate this book as a good buy.
Good forms.......2005-08-29
This book is really helpful. I love the forms and that they are all on CD in variable formats. Great place to start from!

Customer Reviews:
Great resource for serious eBay sellers.......2006-07-02
Whether you are a serious eBay seller who wants to expand your business, or if you are someone new to the auction industry who wants to start a new business - this is the book for you! I found this book to be simultaneously light-hearted and informative, which is hard to do when writing about business topics. Then again, it is about eBay! My copy of this book has become quite dog-eared and marked up as I constantly refer to it time and again, but I love it. The writers go into a lot of detail about the technical and business sides of running an eBay business without regurgitating the same information found in other eBay books. They provide fresh concepts and great ideas that sellers will be inspired by.
A very informative book.......2006-04-25
This book was a very easy read, full of very helpful information. I didn't want to mark it, so I could re-sell it. But, this book is a keeper. I'm going to refer to it from time to time. It is just full of great information and ideas that I hope to put into motion. I've been only selling since July 2005, so I'm still on a very steep learning curve. This book is going to help me quite a bit, as soon as I can put some of these great ideas into effect. I Highly recommend this book, especially to someone who already has some selling experience on ebay.

Make big Profits on Ebay: the ultimate guide for building a business on Ebay.......2006-04-13
This book absolutely left me breathless-I could not put it down. I wished I had read it prior to starting my ebay business in March of 2005-nevertheless; no ebayer should be without this priceless tool. I had the recent opportunity of meeting one of the authors, Charlene Davis, and she is just as awesome as this book. I am so energized and ready to make my ebay business grow even more!!!! Thanks to both authors for making this ebay lingo work for all of us!!!!! I could go on and on, but just check it out for yourself-you will not be disappointed. waynette davenport-ford Davenport Designs Savannah, Georgia

This is a clear, easy-to-read, comprehensive book about how to sell on eBay. The authors make the technical stuff easy to understand. This is a great book for anyone, regardless of their experience level, who wants to sell on eBay either by starting a new business or adding eBay sales to an existing business. Well worth the time and money.
Make Big Profits on Ebay: The Ultimate Guide For Building a Business on Ebay.......2006-01-15
I was refered to this book by a rating, which rated it the best book of the month. Boy, were they right!! I am about to order another book for a friend...that is how much I love it, that I would rather buy one for her than lend mine out right now. It's a resource I don't want to be without for even a minute.
My store is almost 2 weeks old. I have made over $300 in sales and by years end hoping to add a few zeros to that number.
The thing is, I LOVE shopping on eBay, I love taking pictures, I love bargain hunting...and ofcourse passing on the savings to my customers and future customers. I have to be honest, some of the stuff I find, I like to much to sell and end up having to go for seconds. Then again, I love shopping, so this was totally up my alley.
I also have been a photo buff since I was 15, so I love taking pictures and editing them...it's like art work to me. I then get to share. I am still working on getting some more photo props and a tripod which will make life easier, and photography of merchandise more fun.
I am at an advantage, though; I live in NY so I have tons of wholesalers and manufacterers in this Metro area. It's just a matter of finding the right ones.
Right now, I am still in research phase. So far, so good.
Don't give up, if you like this sort of thing...it can really work for you. I am living it, right now and enjoying every minute.
You can check out how I added some of the tips to my store, and critics are welcomed.

Wish me luck and I wish you the same. Don't give up!!

provides methods to assess uncertainties and intangibles.......2007-03-07
Feldman offers practical advice in the tricky task of valuing a firm that has no publicly traded stock. There are many intangibles. But the book gives methodologies to systematically assess in a rational manner what these might be.
Take trying to find the beta. How to do so for a private firm? The book clearly sets out the steps of - 1. estimating the beta for the firm's industry. 2. tweaking this for time lag effects. 3. change the beta to account for the firm's size. 4. ditto, but now for the firm's capital structure.
Granted, steps 2, 3 and 4 can still be quite involved. And you might well have to still do subjective assessments within each. But the overall procedure is at least conceptually clear.
The book has many other procedures that you should find useful.

Pretty Accurate Vision of Managing a Design Business.......2007-06-18
Suzanne DeWalt really hits some key elements regarding running a home-based design business. For example, her advice regarding setting up an agreement before giving the client all your ideas is very good advice. True, she does emphasize window treatments as being your entrance into the clients home and that may not apply to every designer. So I took off one star. But the honest and practical advice she gives is well worth the price of the book. You can't just be "creative" you have to run a professional firm. As I am the owner of a seven-year old design firm, I say she is accurate on her advice.
how to start a home drapery business.......2003-08-08
i definitely agree with the other comment that it's all about window coverings. interior design is not all about window treatments and trying to sell products to your clients. interior design is about designing the homes of your clients. definitely a misleading book.
This book gave me the courage!.......2002-08-27
This is exactly the book I've been looking for. I completed my degree, but still felt
that I needed some "real world" guidance. This book did that. The author explained
the how to things that I couldn't figure out, like where to find the business, how to
estimate jobs, where to buy the stuff, etc. I love this book!
Awesome.......2002-03-02
I thought this book was excellent! I read it completely in 2 days! I am just considering starting my own business and I appreciated Suzanne sharing such valuable infomation. I don't think a designer "in the business" would share any of this information with you. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out in the business.
Should be called "How to Start a Drapery Business".......2000-01-17
The title is truly misleading. The authors "Interior Design" Business is a window covering business. She sells window coverings, flooring and wallcoverings but is apparantly not a designer. Don't expect any in depth advice on working with clients creating integrated room plans, using trade-only showrooms etc. If you want to focus on one aspect of the business, simply selling floor or window coverings, great. But, I feel cheated even though this book was inexpensive
