Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-09-30

Well rounded book on trading for people to gain an overview of all markets. The best ones like this are by those who actually trade.
This is one of the first I read as a beginner, where some of the things were over my head but still held a lot of interest. Re-reading it now brings out the full benefit. Great book.

5 out of 5 stars Anyone knocking this book does not trade daily........2007-09-27

When I first heard the reviews of John Carter's Book ,I was a bit confused. Some people said the book was great, some said it sucks. Then I bought the book and read it. This book is a very good look at trading from top to bottom and in the middle. The people that are dogging this book must not trade at all period. These are very simple and easy strategies to follow with examples to support. PLEASE BACKTEST and USE TIGHTER STOPS, because the guy is either filthy rich or got balls of steel....I am sure Carter did not put a lot of his losers in the book but he did put some. I find it sad that people dog this guy so much. Yeah, he is greedy..very greedy, but his products are what they are, GOOD. My only complaint is his DVD's are 2400.00 and his open software indicators are copied from the Tradestation library and are 1600.00. ALL in all he has a great book and a good website with a free trial that is only 14 bucks. He has some excel downloads worth that alone. Buy this book if you want to day trade or get a better perspective of other succesful traders. You will learn a lot. Try to buy his other products 2nd hand they are too HIGH. If the guy's products wasn't so high he would be a lot more popular and respected. He has been called a snake oil salesman. He is not that,he is just a greedy salesman and a helluva trader... Great Book on trading!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Read.......2007-09-08

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it!! It covers all aspects of trading not just strategies and setups e.g. trading tools, trading mindset etc....lots of great information on futures, equities, options and forex.

4 out of 5 stars A great trader's course.......2007-08-10

This book is a great trader's course. The author tells you everything you need to know, from selecting computer hardware (this info might be a bit dated), to risk management, financial psychology, discipline needed to trade all markets. There are about 10 chapters with setups where the author shows you the entry, exit points and stop loss points and gives about 4 or 5 examples of how he successfully traded each of the setups he is showing you. My only complaint is that the author only shows 3 or 4 failures in the whole book. This might lead a person to be overconfident and think that trading is so easy a caveman can do it. :)

If the author has a dozen setups that can work in any market, and he can trade 24/7 on the global markets, forex, etc. and he applies the risk and money management techniques in his book and he only has a 6% failure rate, he should be a multi-billionaire by now.

Overall, a very good book, but the author makes trading seem a lot easier than it really is. In real life trading, unlike the book, you won't have only 3 failures for every 50 successes.

2 out of 5 stars I agree..... Don't believe the Hype!.......2007-08-07

The last reviewer covered it well.

It's the same kind of information that you can obtain easy out of other trading books. This book does not cover much on stocks more on intraday trading E-Mini SP,Mini-Sized Dow,Forex..etc.

When you go through this book it shows you mainly intraday charts 2 min,3 min, 5 min,15 min,60 min,240 min,... I hardly see a daily, weekly, monthly chart in this book. I have no understanding why he never looks at the big picture before he trades a stock or an index. It's more of a daytrading book on futures indexes than anything else. A better book to read is "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader" by Oliver Velez and Greg Capra.

Still the best book to purchase is "Technical Analysis of Stock Trends" by Robert D. Edwards and John Magee , on charting and charting patterns which was originally published back in 1948. Its still the bible of Technical Analysis. I prefer the 5th Edition since it was written by the original authors and you may be able to get it used on amazon.

Book Description

Wiley Online Trading for a Living
When to get in-when to get out
Build, test & trade a winning system
Online brokers, research & market data

For those who are well suited to day trading and short-term trading, the futures market is one of the best games in town. As the original short-term vehicle, the futures market allows the trader to collapse the time frame in which he or she can reach the desired profit target-or pain threshold. As a result, wins and losses are compounded much more quickly than in stock trading-and, in the case of wins, often more profitably. The ability to gain leverage with very little on margin gives you, the trader, the ability to earn more off smaller swings. And enough home runs could allow you to become your own boss, work from home in your bathrobe, or even work from your cell phone while lying on the beach. So far, so good. But what does it take to win?

In Day Trade Futures Online, award-winning veteran futures trader Larry Williams gives a no-holds-barred view of the risks and rewards of this increasingly accessible arena. His straightforward approach to helping you determine your trading personality is the first step. Then he offers traders what they really need: strategies and tactics designed to beat the futures markets. From hardware and software setup to trading psychology and successful strategizing, this highly readable book covers all the bases needed to prepare you to trade online, including:
* Assessing your risk threshold
* Streamlining the glut of trading and price information to make it work for you
* The importance of knowing how to manage your money
* Choosing an online broker and utilizing other online resources, such as news, chat rooms, and message boards
* When to get out of your trades
* Building a system based on Larry's time-tested strategies

. . . and that's just for starters. Also included are an appendix of basic futures concepts and a select bibliography of some of the best learning resources. With good humor and brutal honesty, Williams guides you in building the trading system that will work best for you.

GET IN ON THE ORIGINAL SHORT-TERM GAME WITH BIG-TIME PROFITS

With unflinching honesty and decades of trading experience, award-winning veteran futures trader Larry Williams lends his expertise to the many aspects of futures trading online, including:
* Winning strategies
* Determining your trading personality
* The art of using the Internet
* Hardware and software solutions
* History and development of short-term trading

Praise for Larry Williams and day trade futures online

"Larry Williams, the astute and experienced trader, has presented the reader with many computer-tested patterns that should give one an edge up in the hard world of day trading. He not only gives the patterns, he explains the 'why' of market action and what it takes to be successful from a psychological and money management standpoint. This is one of the best practical books ever written on trading by a veteran trader. Buy it."-John Hill, President, Futures Truth Co.

"Larry possesses an incredible talent to differentiate between what is important in life as well as in the markets. In his book, he shares insights into market behavior and short-term price dynamics that are useful to beginning and experienced traders alike. Whereas most day trading books merely discuss the market in generalities, Larry focuses on computer-tested techniques that can actually help make traders profitable. This is Larry at his best and finest!"-Tom DeMark, President, Market Studies Inc., author of New Science of Technical Analysis and New Market Timing Techniques

"Day Trade Futures Online is another must-have Larry Williams trading book. That's because nearly all the profitable futures traders I've known have attributed their trading success to an idea or concept learned from Larry. When Larry speaks, you better listen."-Gary Smith, author of How I Trade for a Living

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I can't believe that I'm writing this review.......2006-11-05

I'll not quibble between 4 and 5 stars. I agree with the reviewer below (Mr. Coffin) that I did not get the same results that Larry got when he did the studies -- and, FWIW, like Mr. Coffin, I used Trade Station.

Larry's attitude, which I choose to characterize as "test the hell out of your trading notions, then don't worry about a thing, cause nothin's gonna be all right" (with apologies to Mose Allison) is clearly correct.

The item of pre-eminent importance is that Larry said (as I recall) that Ralph Vince said (no slouch in these matters, Ralph) first profitable open works best as an exit strategy.

Or, "Get out of Dodge with the money before the Marshall figures out you've got the dough." Try to worry yourself to death during the holding period when your holding period is only long enough to eat dinner, then breakfast. My stress level has gone way down.

True enough, I'm not trading Larry's strategies. As a side note, I will say that the strategies worked pretty much as advertised up until a year or so before the book was published, more or less. I'm not nearly smart enough to know what changed. But I know that Larry follows the precept of testing, implementing, expecting the worst today with a long term outcome of winning.

So read the book, make up your own variations, test them, find those that back test well & forward test well. Trade those, make money, be happy, and devil take the hindmost.

Thanks, Larry.

5 out of 5 stars He really trades.......2005-11-29

Most of the books on trading are written by unsuccessful traders or technicians who are frustrated traders, Larry Williams is one of the few great traders, who keeps trading and making money which shares his methods, strategies and thoughts in a book in a comprehensible way. Larry Williams is among the best and newbies and wannabes like me have to listen to him.

1 out of 5 stars Shame .......2005-11-09

I do not know why he decided to recycle his "Long Term Secrets to Short Term Trading" book. He is selling the same old stuff in a new book with a different name. Even the examples and the explanations of his setups are word to word the same. Nothing new at all. No need to buy the book.

5 out of 5 stars Updated Long-Term Secrets..........2004-08-26

Mr. Williams specializes in the S&P 500. You won't find a better or more proven trader than Mr. Williams. He is very generous with his techniques and trading methods, complete with well researched studies of successful trades. His ideas can also be applied to other trading vehicles. You can't lose reading any and all of Mr. William's books. Well worth the purchase price, as you are capturing over 35 years of successful and documented trading experience. This is the updated version of "Long-Term Secrets To Short-Term Trading", with some new material added.

Larry gives no meat in this weak thiny book.
If you really want to learn more- read Toby Crabels articles or books - much more informative and usefull.

Day trading such stocks as Amazon.com, eBay, and Yahoo! sounds like a game for the gun slinger: jump into the fray and pull the trigger. Is that really the case? No, according to author Christopher Farrell, who earns his money just as Wall Street does--by making very small, short-term, high-percentage trades. Farrell, who works from home, has traded over 15,000,000 shares of stock via the Internet, producing a 65 percent annual return for his investment fund in its first year. Using detailed, user-friendly examples, Farrell shows how to place orders online and then sell minutes later for small profits that can potentially add up to thousands of dollars a day--if you pick the right stocks. He explains how the New York Stock Exchange allows traders to buy on the bid and sell at the offer, just like the professionals. Farrell also includes loads of tips, such as how to choose an online broker, how much to pay for commissions, and how to cope with a technology that's still in its infancy. If you've been thinking about joining the estimated 5 million online traders, then this book is for you. --Thom Hartle

Book Description

The explosive growth and low cost of online trading has created a new class of investor who can now make a living buying and selling stocks over the Internet in a way that was once reserved for Wall Street's most powerful brokerage firms and investment banks. While technology has made entering the "major leagues" easy, staying in is not. Before taking to the fast-paced, high-risk playing field, it's absolutely essential that you have a firm grasp of the rules and a solid game plan. Day Trade Online is the play book novice competitors need to become strong contenders. Written by seasoned practitioner Christopher Farrell, it is a one-stop, step-by-step overview of how to make a successful living, whether full- or part-time, trading via the Internet.
Day trading can be quite lucrative, but only if you know what you are doing. As Farrell points out: "Trading for a living is hard. Trading for a living over the Internet is even harder. There are many challenges and obstacles that confront you. Venturing into this jungle unprepared is a recipe for disaster." This straightforward guide provides the head start and heads up necessary to thrive as an Internet day trader, covering everything from the dangers and pitfalls of trading online to an in-depth analysis of which trading techniques work and which don't.
Day Trade Online presents inside information on the strategies of top trading firms, including the most secretive, misunderstood, and profitable function on Wall Street: exploiting the bid-ask spread. Which stocks to trade - and which to avoid. Beating the specialists and the market makers at their own game. The dangers and pitfalls of online brokers.
Most importantly, you will learn to look at ten different stocks and pinpoint which one to trade, when, at what price, and why. With the right know-how, you will then be able to apply this knowledge to every single stock that you screen.
Written for the day trader, by a day trader, this is indispensable reading for anyone looking to join an increasingly popular - and profitable - arena.
"I see the ads on television. Open an account and your first trade is free. Trade as many shares as you'd like for one flat fee. Free real-time quotes. Free market research. Trade stocks. Trade options. With the click of a mouse. It's that easy. Anyone can do it . . . I think back on my time on Wall Street. Does the little guy really have a chance?" - from Day Trade Online.

1 out of 5 stars you will not be a day trader if you read this book.......2007-09-11

The content of the book can be sumed as: In low volatility stocks, a day trader exploits the spread by using limit orders instead of market orders. In this way, the day trader trades with the market maker and makes teenie profit everyday.
This book tells it over 230 pages. It repeats himself many times. It was not useful. You had better choose another book.

2 out of 5 stars help me I have fallen and I can't Get up!!!!.......2007-08-29

This book is had way to me fractions for me!
But 1/8 this, Buy 1/9 this, sell 5/10 that

WHO IS THE AUTHOR TRYING TO ATTRACT AS READERS!

Also the author tells you not to do home work, Sorry people but even a day trader should now whats going on in the market. You invest time knowing your trade (profession) and no matter if I choose to be a day trader or long term investor, I believe you must know your profession and how it works.

I do not recommend this book to beginners or mild investors wanting to day trade. This book is for someone???? Well I am sure it is for someone, just not me. AND I DO MAKE MONEY DAY TRADING!

4 out of 5 stars Motivational.......2006-11-11

After reading the book, I was so motivated to go and make money. However when I went to trade I discovered that the spread is so thin ! A cent for that matter. Has the rules changed or am I doing something wrong?

3 out of 5 stars The Concepts are cool even if they be tricky..........2006-04-02

Christopher's strong suit is not concise writing. The repetition may push you over the edge but if you can hang with it, you will get several insights about the inside of the market. I've been trading for a little over a year but have not yet attempted this method. I'm sure that even in 2006 it will work but it will be more work than when the book was written.

I think one of the most important contributions this books makes is the insight it provides to the 'specialist.' That's a guy that we all need to know about, whether we're trading teenies or pennies!!

1 out of 5 stars It's a CRIME that this book is still for sale........2006-03-19

The publishers should be sued. Maybe we should get a class-action together.

Imagine taking an instruction manual for the very first Apple computer and putting a new title on it "How to use your new home computer" and selling it in bookstores today. This book is doing EXACTLY that!

Also, it is highly doubtful that the tactic ever worked in the first place. The author's website vanished years ago. In a thinly traded NYSE stock if you try to repeatedly front the specialist with 2000 share orders he will simply move the price 50 cents against you immediately following your next purchase. Game over.

If you're curious about investing but have been too afraid to try, or if you've wondered about the hype surrounding online trading but were unsure how to plug in, It's Your Money is for you. In it, Christos Cotsakos--the man who put online trading on the map--leads you step-by-step into the brave new world of Internet trading. The book begins literally at the beginning, with criteria for buying a computer and selecting an Internet service provider, moves on through investment basics, and finally offers sophisticated strategies for analyzing individual stocks. Ever wondered what the NASDAQ was but didn't want to show your ignorance? Or day trading? Read on. In a clear, conversational style, Cotsakos answers all the key questions, from what growth stocks are, to why bonds are really not boring, to the difference between front-end and rear-end loads (mutual funds, that is).

Once you've grasped the basics, you're on your way to opening your own Internet trading account. The beauty of managing and investing money online is that you can be your own "professional fund manager" (which gives you more power over your money--the author's primary goal here). Cotsakos explains how to research investment opportunities using the World Wide Web, and how to analyze and interpret what you've found in order to meet your own goals. He shows how to take advantage of such online perks as portfolio tracking and computer alerts for important changes in particular investments. And he introduces advanced topics for the braveheart investor--IPOs, day trading, and extended-hours trading. The Cotsakos approach is nevertheless a prudent one. The emphasis is on using the computer's analytical tools to create a well-conceived financial plan, rather than on simply learning how to ride the helter-skelter world of day trading, for example. As a primer for investing online, this book is a great resource. Be forewarned, however: Cotsakos does take every opportunity to mention his own financial-services company, E*Trade. There are others out there, so take a leaf out of his own book and do your research--online, of course--before you sign up. --Lesley Reed

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Nothing to gain by reading this.......2007-02-01

As others have stated the book is little more than a 200 page advertisement for e-trade.

I read the book because I know very little about investing in the stock market and I would like to learn.

Even as god awful new to the stock market I am, I learned almost nothing from the book. Many of his descriptions of the way things are "Why do companies go public?" were oversimplified to the point of being wrong.

I went into the book with a bunch of questions and left will all of the same questions.

At best the only thing the book does is convince you to invest money in the stock market through E-trade.

If you are going to trade online, the $13 per trade commission E-Trade charges you is much higher than the $7/trade rate offered by Scottrade, or the $10/trade Ameritrade offers but you won't find that in the book.

If you want to learn about the stock market, I would recommend instead Jim Cramer's 'Mad Money' or 'Sane Investing in an Insane World'.

If you managed to make it here to read this review then it is a fair bet you already know everything 'It's Your Money' has to say. The book is really that worthless.

2 out of 5 stars An Advertisement for E*TRADE.......2002-02-19

This book was completely unfulfilling. It's hard to imagine a book that could be less useful for investors. Perhaps Costakos assumes that his potential customers are simpletons who don't know how the Internet works. Even so, his consistent proselytizing for his own online brokerage will annoy both neophytes and experienced traders alike.

4 out of 5 stars Great for first time E*Trade investers.......2001-06-25

This book gives you the nuts and bolts about trading and investing on E*Trade. It also covers investment tips and references to use, such as margin trading. The book does not tell you what to invest in but how to manage your own money. Great starter book for E*Trade investers and investors who think they know what they are doing but do not.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for most.......2001-01-20

I can't believe how people criticize Chritos Cotsakos. Sayingthat this book was just for publicity is ridiculous. I was surprisedwhile reading this great book how he did mention other competitors ofhis. This is a quote from his book, "At this point you probablythink I'm going to tell you to go directly to [Etrade] and sign up foran account with Etrade. Even though I am very, very proud of what wehave accomplished, I'm not going to do that. The whole point of thisbook is to empower you. The worst thing you can do when managing ourown money is to blindly follow someone else's advice-no matter whoseit is. If I thought that was a good idea, I wouldn't have bothered towrite this book. Managing your own money online is a way of takingcontrol of your actions, your research, your information, yourdecisions, and your own account. It's not a form of gambling. Makingfinancial decisions without knowing what you're doing is a form ofgambling. Instead of telling you what to do, I'm going to give yousome guidelines to help you select the best possible financial serviceprovider, and then set you loose on the Internet to make the rightdecision-for yourself. So, how do you evaluate and choose a goodfinancial service provider? Start with what I call 'the six Ss':security, speed, simplicity, service, sharing, and scalability. Thebest financial service providers do all of these very well." Nowof course he does mention how great Etrade is but if it was my book, Iwould to. Anyways, the book is great for almost anyone. The book ispretty simple in the beginning, but it helps later on in the book. Thechapters are as follow:

This book is great for most people and he just explains how to readstock information and what everything means. It's not an equation ofhow to find the next Wal-Mart or Cisco. I don't know how people saythat this book won't help you at all.

5 out of 5 stars great resource on trading options.......2006-03-29

Trade Stocks Online was a fantastic book ! I especially loved Larson's stock splitting strategy which helped identify the perfect timing in entering this strategy with leaps. This book will help anyone who has trouble with information overload or who suffers from paralysis analysis when trading options because Mark gives a detailed explanation of his trades. This book facilitated my success and profitability in trading options right away ! thanks Mark!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars David Fuller - A Real Trader.......2006-03-25

Both of Larson's books are well worth the read. His treatment of trading splits is an absolute read for anyone who want to profit from stock splits whether by stock purchase or using the option route. Mark has mastered advance technical analysis, and has an uncanny ability to teach that master. I have met Mark on a few occasions, and he is really one of the good guys. He passionately cares about helping others succeed, and demonstrates that both in his seminars, mentoring program and through his books.

      5 out of 5 stars Excellent .......2006-03-23

I enjoyed the book a lot. I have had the opportunity to work one on one with Mark Larson for a few years and I have learned a lot. I have passed this book on to a few friends that really appreciated the information especially on options. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good primer on the basics of investing online.

1 out of 5 stars Another waste of time from a complete idiot.......2006-03-12

See my review of his other waste of time for more detail. I have met his guy and know that he is just a terrible trader. Everyone made (and lost) in the late nineties into 2000. The key to successful trading is having a set of methods that can work in any market, or at least keep your losses limited during tough times. This book niether provides any insight into profitable strategies that work today or lessons on how to keep losses to a minimum (in fact I KNOW that his guys averages his losing trades...losers average losers, mark). Avoid this waste of your time. Spend toime reading the educational resources on your own brokers website instead. Its free.

5 out of 5 stars Total Online Trading.......1999-12-24

Having flicked through the book at the local bookstore before buying it, I was delighted to receive my own copy.

By far and easily the best online trading book out there - I know because this one made me money.

      5 out of 5 stars Volumous content.......1999-12-24

Great amounts of pure online trading gold. Been waiting for this for ages, at long, long last someone has actually written it.

Unique in coverage, really found it straightforward and no no-nonsense. Really good.

5 out of 5 stars Great deal learnt by me.......1999-12-24

I found it very useful to come to this book by someone who obviously trades for a living. The subtle insights that can only come from someone who does this for a living were clear.

The book contains lots of great humor, and ample material about how to trade effectively online and the best online sites around.

A real treat to read and lots to be learnt even for one like me who has been trading for a few years now.

Was a little surprised by the no-brainers who reviewed it pooly on Amazon and just didn't get that the book was for people serious about trading. An excellent book, made me a lot in todays volatile markets.

1 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor and don't buy this book.......1999-12-10

"Gee, how can I make some money from writing about the internet? I know -- I'll write some worthless stuff about getting connected to the internet (target group-African bushmen?), and then I'll just put down the on-line investing sites I found after a few days of random surfing." I'm sure a similar train of thought went through the author's mind just before he came up with this lemon of a book. At the time of this review, this book had a four star review average; these other reviews that said this book was "brilliant" made me laugh. Shakespeare is brilliant; this author's intentions are merely expedient.

      5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......1999-12-06

This was a detailed insightful book. Took me up to a level of expertise other books lack. It also had a starter section for skimming for those who want to double check they have the right hardware and software.

The best part of the book is the details on formulating a trading plan and structure.

      Very good.

        Product Description

Futures trading legend Larry Williams provides a practical overview of online futures trading. He offers step-by-step guidance on how to use the Internet to mine and expolit key news sources and price information. For those who are well suited to day trading and short-term trading, the futures market is one of the best games in town. As the original short-term vehicle, the futures market allows the trader to collapse the time frame in which he or she can reach the desired profit targetor pain threshold. As a result, wins and losses are compounded much more quickly than in stock tradingand, in the case of wins, often more profitably. From hardware and software setup to trading psychology and successful strategizing, this highly readable book covers all the bases needed to prepare you to trade online, including:*Assessing your risk threshold*Streamlining the glut of trading and price information to make it work for you.Choosing an online broker and utilizing other online resources, such as news, chat rooms, and message boards*When to get out of your trades*Building a system based on Larrys time-tested strategies... and thats just for starters. Also included are an appendix of basic futures concepts and a select bibliography of some of the best learning resources
