Book Description

It seems that almost everyone likes treehouses. Smiles of recognition turn into grins of enthusiasm as more people discover them and dream about making their own private retreats or family play spaces. And it's nice to remind ourselves that treehouses are built into the oldest and most forgiving, living things on earth. Also, history records treehouses as being built as deliberate follies, as challenges for arboreal designers, for merrymaking, and for keeping the spirit of fairy tales alive. But treehouses can also be social places. We will visit many that were built to entertain, to hang out with friends, or as guest houses. Trees welcome all types.

Master treehouse builders Peter and Judy Nelson, with David Larkin, have embarked on yet another treehouse-discovery expedition across America, this time adding the investigation of backyard playhouses to their agenda. Now, in The Treehouse Book, they reveal their findings, illustrated and described in the most complete volume yet. From casual treeshacks made from discarded lumber to multitiered feats of fancy, they found shelters representing
myriad builders-interesting characters ranging from childhood fanatics grown up, to weekend carpenters, to those who want their grandkids to have the best clubhouse on the block.

Detailed how-to information, including plans and drawings, is woven with behind-the-scenes tales of each structure's occupants and stunning interior and exterior photographic explorations.

This book along with Treehouses of the World are inspirational page after page. If you are a fan of treehouses, this book is a must in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars The Treehouse Book Review.......2007-01-11

This book is just as good as the front cover picture suggests: pie-in-the-sky treehouses. The kind that you dreamed about as a kid? Its obvious from this book that some adults still think about and make their dreams become beautiful structures in reality. If you ever wanted a pictoral book of treehouses representing your wildest imaginations, this is the book for you!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee table book.......2006-02-28

This book has some excellent pictures of treehouses. I love it! It is one of my favorite treehouse books. It is not for someone looking to build a treehouse; for that, i recommend "Home Tree Home", by Peter Nelson. Back in 1999, I built my own treehouse, primarily using ideas from "Home Tree Home" and prior treehouse building experience. I lived in it for 5 years.

    Book Description

Every adult can recall the serene kind of safety they felt in their childhood "special place"-a platform in a backyard tree, a secret corner of a garden, or a well-hidden fort in the woods. Hideaways demonstrates how adults recreate those hidden retreats in the form of fishing cabins, garden huts, weekend studios, and other intimately-designed spaces where the owners are often more "at home" than they are at home. Sometimes completely spontaneous, sometimes planned to a purpose, these personal architectures offer a fantastic range of building styles - but each is clearly driven by the urge to create a place where one can be utterly relaxed.

Sonya Faure presents over 200 fabulous, fanciful, and freeform models - as well as more practical, but never quite conventional designs, each meant to inspire: from a place where Huck Finn would hide out to highly designed small houses by Le Corbusier. There are vacation retreats in exotic locations on three continents, and backyard kingdoms to be visited-all in one book.

Illustrated with photographs of nearly 200 retreats, this book explains how the stress of daily life and the quest for privacy have rendered hideaways so popular with grownup city-dwellers, architects, and designers who just need a little space.

    4 out of 5 stars A FREE LUNCH.......2003-10-08

Although a little uneven, this, the latest print edition to THE SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF HORROR featuring all new original artwork and stories, is still an entertaining and very funny book. Rarely is it really scary, but there are some truly inspired moements (MOE'S URBAN TALES OF TERROR: #62: THE PHANTOM GIRLFRIEND!!), visual gags and some daring plots (REASONS TO AVOID A ZOMBIE-RUN RESTURANT and HELL-O-WEEN, the last and best story of the entire book) are to be found inside. A major draw for these stories is the often new and original take on both the artwork and the actual look of the Simpsons. Artists are given free regin here to play with the look and style of The Simpsons, as well as placing them in odd and strange situations (even more odd and strange than even the television series is allowed to go). While third in the series, it shows no sign of getting old or growing stale. Perhaps not the best TREEHOUSE ever, but still remarkable and highly recommdned.

    5 out of 5 stars A great book!.......2004-08-07

I loved the book! It was really nice reading it. I read it more times than just once. I really really really like it. I like camps; and it was a little more interesting than "Puppy Problems" even thought I loved that too. I thought Bess was kind of funny in this story, because she doesn't like a boy named David Mulholland. I think you'll enjoy reading it too.

    4 out of 5 stars I agree.......2001-07-11

[....] I liked this book but didn't love it. It was a little predictable as compared to the others in the series.

If you like camps you will like this book. It is one of those books that will keep you up a night reading. The "mystery" is not too hard for the recommended age group, but not too childish for an older child to read.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for any Simpsons fan.......2003-01-15

For those of you who are fans of the hit television show "The Simpsons", you are probably well acquainted with the legendary "Treehouse of Horror" episodes that have become a Halloween tradition. These episodes have proven to be such a seasonal favorite that Groening and the gang have decided to dish out even more tales of terror in "Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror: Heebie-Jeebie Hullabaloo".

Hullabaloo is a collection of comics and sketches that cleverly capture the humor and style of the Simpsons Halloween specials. Much like the television version, the main stories in Hullabaloo are parodies of famous horror films. The first story in the book is a parody of the classic horror film "The Blob". In the sketch, Simpsons character Sideshow Bob takes an experimental treatment that transforms him into "Sideshow Blob". Seizing the opportunity to take revenge on his nemesis Bart, Sideshow Blob squeezes out of prison and wreaks havoc on Springfield.

After Springfield is saved from "Sideshow Blob", they barely have time to recover before Lisa becomes possessed by the evil spirit of Madonna in "The Exorsister", a combo-parody of the infamous "Exorcist" and the even more infamous Madonna. The book continues with additional parodies of films such as "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and "Cat People".

In between the main features of the book are a plethora of comics, guides, and stories hosted by and featuring an assortment of Springfield characters. One of these guides features everyone's favorite slack-jawed yokel, Cletus Del Roy. Cletus presents to us "A Yokels Guide to Halloween" which teaches us how to celebrate Halloween like "Edgar Allan" Poe white trash. Another extra features Bart's "Guide to Low-Budget Costumes" which shows you how to cheaply transform yourself into horrid monsters such as "Vaselino, The Thing That Wouldn't Dry". You'll also find the story of "Elijah Dunn and the One-Armed Nun", Evil Dr. Burn's "Goodtime Servant Factory", "Springfield in Hell", and much, much more.

Hullabaloo is colorful, fun, entertaining, and just in time for Halloween. The comical cast breathes sarcasm and humor into favorite horror classics. If you are a fan of the Simpsons and Halloween, then this book will not disappoint you.

    5 out of 5 stars Funny!.......2002-11-02

    4 out of 5 stars Simpson's Comic Book.......2002-01-06

This comic book was pretty good with another humerous approach to to the Simpsons comic saga. Stories include
    1. Sideshow Blob-Sideshow Bob is turned into a giant phlem.
    2. The Exorsister-Lisa possessed by the spirit of Madonna.
    3. The Immigration of the Body Snatchers-Pod people take over and Homer tries to convince them they are here and not crazy.
    4. Call me Homer-Famly history of Homer eating blubber in the tale of Ishmael.
    5. Bart People-Bart turns into a cat.
    6. Little Shop of Homers-Killer Homer plant.
    Pretty good book overall.

    5 out of 5 stars Mmmm... Donuts.......2001-10-28

I think this book was really funny. I really liked Homer Simpson's Halloween Carols. He is my favorite cartoon character. I guess the funniest part is, when the Simpsons were watching Kent Brockman talking about a plant that eats donuts, and Homer said "Mmmm... Donuts." That was pretty funny. Another funny scene was when everyone in Springfield found out this was just a comic book, and they didn't really exist. Homer said "If I don't exist, can I still eat donuts?" That one cracked me up. I guess, now, you can see why I like Homer Simpson so much.

      Book Description

Matt Groening, The toastmaster of trick-or-treat,whips up a witches' brouhaha of crazed clown cars, possessed cereal boxes, haunted hospitals, afterlife-binding cocktail napkin I.O.U.s, ring-driven fellowships, neighborly vampires, and costumed comic book guys. Add a revenge-filled bottle of Amontillado, and a rippingly good yarn from merry and bloody olde England, and you have a pleasingly putrid and asphyxiatingly amusing tome of tonsil-tickling terror and Halloween howl-arity with The Simpsons.

      5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome!!.......2007-04-28

What a fantastic book/toy. My daughter has this one and two others. I just couldn't believe it when I found it. She is 7 and absolutely loves it. She spends hours playing with it. It is a bit fragile, yet sturdy to be made of cardboard. The insides are just beautiful and each day my daughter finds a new suprise she didn't know was there before. Now all of her friends want one to.

4 out of 5 stars Great for little girls!!.......2007-02-15

My [...]loves reading and then playing with the book. The pop out feature is fantastic- must see! Keeps her busy for hours! She loves these books and wants to collect them all. The only draw back is the pieces are fragile (as any paper doll type thing would be) and the pieces are small. Luckily there is a storage envelope inside to store all the "dolls" and pieces when you are done.

5 out of 5 stars Kids love it.......2007-01-03

My daughter received this for Christmas and it's amazing. Not only does it have fairy paper dolls but there are tons of secret flaps/surprises in every room. My daughter who is 8 spends hours going through each room to make sure no surprise has been missed. She tells me each room has 2 surprises so far. A great buy!!

5 out of 5 stars An enchantingly charming book........2006-12-21

This book is such of a delight. It opens to a full dimensional magical tree house with little doors that open and all sorts of magical thing for a child (and adult) to play with. It has punch out little fairies that can inhabit the tree house. It's a paper pop out book with beautiful illustrations and two floors of fun from a kitchen to a garden and a bedroom. It's amazing to look at. It's in a series with My Fairy Princess Castle and My Fairy Princess Winter Wonderland....all equally charming and different enough to warrant buying all three of them. A little child loves to look at it, but it's for an older child (and adult) since it's made of paper.
