Most these letter appear to be in violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. I did not find it very useful for anyone trying to run an ethical business.

5 out of 5 stars Found this book to be very helpful........2005-02-16

I purchased this book when I was starting my own collection agency and found many great letters here. I mostly used parts of different letters to create my own, but there were alot of great peices to use together. I liked this book so much I purchased it for a friend of mine who was also starting her own collection agency. I would recommend this book to help you create your own debt collection letters. There is quite a bit of good information in this book.

2 out of 5 stars Very, very basic book.......2004-01-08

Upon receipt of this book I was very, very disapointed.

If you are looking for a collection letter book that gives solid, indepth letters that include FDCPA tags and other inportant collection letter information, this is not the book to buy.

The letters are very basic (people with zero experience might find this to be a starting point) and it glosses over many topics. OR does not address them at all. (If you need letters for accounts more than 90 days past due -- there is no help here.)

I will be very wary of what I buy on Amazon based on this experience. If you are doubtful about buying it -- don't!

Do you have time and money to waste? Then buy this book. If you want to get the real answers or a true guide for starting a home based collections agency, THIS IS NOT IT!

In my opinion, it is generic - simple - vague - short - and a waste of time. It does not give a detailed outline or a complete process needed to start a collection biz.

    Very VERY dissapointing product.

4 out of 5 stars Very well laid out book in both design and content........2005-12-21

Dunn's self published title, Starting a Collection Agency, How to make money collecting money, is a very well laid out book in both design and content. The text is logical and easy to follow. The samples are effective and easily understood. The flow between chapters makes it easy to follow. A good cover and a good job of selling the book on the back cover also lead to its success. - Writer's Digest

      Book Description

No matter how successful a sales operation is, if customers don't pay their bills, the company is left holding the bag. Companies across the country are out billions of dollars in delinquent money. This book shows companies how to use a variety of new credit collection techniques to successfully collect their outstanding bills.

      Download Description

Corporations are placing a greater emphasis on converting credit sales into bank deposits. In most cases, accounts receivable represent the company's most important asset. Conventional collection techniques have not kept pace with changing times. Various laws, debtor attitudes, the cost of money, liberal credit policies, and increased competition have created a brand-new climate. Yet credit executives and financial management continue to follow antiquated policies. The Collection Management Handbook shows them how to redefine their credit collection techniques.

        Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A very good coaching session with an experienced collector.......2004-02-02

First, hat's off to the author for fine-tuning his book
over several editions and many years, to finally write up
a definitive version, covering spreadsheets, software (the
modern tools) with all the rest, and keeping it uptodate.

I definitely reaped rewards from this book, more than
Harold S. Long's book on collections called HOW TO COLLECT
ILLEGAL DEBTS, which although very useful, funny, realistic
and psychologically, very interesting and stimulating,
exceeded the bounds of acceptable, employable behavior.

The advantage of Paulsen's approach, is you're employable
as a professional by other companies, whereas Harold S. Long's
techniques would require you to open up your own business,
with a great deal of muscle-man, karate or boxing training
to do with the collection activities. Most will prefer the
Paulsen approach ...it's easier, and it keeps you out
        of trouble.

Regarding the book itself, PAID IN FULL, its clearly written
by someone who is completely, entirely and fully immersed
in collections. Or in other words, collecting is Mr Paulsen's
Universe, written by someone who loves that work, and feels
comfortable and financially rewarded for doing good collecting
        work.

That said, it can be summarized as a gigantic coaching session,
by an experienced mentor, who is extreme credible, and is willing
to share with others, his own personal techniques, psychological
approach, attitudes and professional behavior with the readers. That
certainly deserves a round of applause, as rarely do star performers
share their secrets with other people.

However, I gave this book a 4/5 for the reason that it didn't
strike me as a "PHENOMENAL" book about collection. Just a very
good, or excellent coaching session one. Perhaps the approach
by the author was too relaxed about it ...myself, I've read
books that are urgent in their coaching or training tone, very
motivating, upbeat and ambitious. In this book, the author is
self-conscious about showing too much enthusiasm about the profession,
or perhaps, disliked it or couldn't bear to practice is after many
years (my guess) and this would explain why the author is not training
people about collecting, contrasting with actually working as a collector.

I feel trainers often become slightly out of touch with reality,
in the sense that they become too comfortable and relaxed about
the pressures, performance stresses and keeping-your-job fears
that actual professionals feel when they're doing their job. Indeed,
it's likely a lot of pro's in the field get terminated from collections
from lack of performance, or lose their desire to be collectors,
or get paid very poorly to do that work. None of the negatives or
positives or even, the mention of salaries, career perspectives and
similar pressures are even referred to in Mr Paulsen's book, unlike
many other books that actually understand and acknowledge those
pressures, those questions and offer tips to address those problems. This
downgrades my rating of 5 to only a 4 for Paulsen's book.

All in all, worth every penny ... and clearly, this is a very nice
addition to people doing collections, or thinking about trying a collecting
job out for a while ...although, it's a small part of the story when
working in finance or accounting. For that, a college or university degree
in accounting, finance and more is advised, for example.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, practical book.......2003-06-15

This book takes a humourous ride in collecting debts. His suggestions are practical and will work. It's loaded with tips and is good for both the newcomer and experienced pro. A very good book.

5 out of 5 stars Helpful and Informative.......2000-07-19

Paid In Full is an informative book where I was able to read and understand clearly what the author was stating. It offered valuable tips and suggestions on how to go about calling non-paying customers and excellent collection letters. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has collection problems. I originally purchased 'How to Collect Debts' which was a total waste of time and money. You'll have none of these problems with this book - it's worth the investment!

5 out of 5 stars Essential guide for anybody interested in credit.......2002-05-31

I have been working in the credit and collections field for approximately four years. I feel this book is an invaluable tool for both credit professionals and those starting out in the field. The chapters flow in a logical order. The language dispenses with most of the technical jargon, and if it is contained Mr. Dennis defines and outlines the terms. The best part about this books is that it was written recently, so it deals with a lot of the concerns credit managers have today. I also would endorse this book for classroom settings. It is certainly better than the antiquated credit textbooks I had to read in college. In conclusion, I recommend this book to anybody interested in credit, accounting, or general business practices.

5 out of 5 stars Complete and Comprehensive.......2002-05-31

I found this book to be one of the most comprehensive books on this subject I have read. I appreciated the way in which the information was presented - both in terms of the way it was organized, but also the way it made complex ideas easy to understand. Dorothy Siegel. Credit Manager. 5 out of 5 stars Working Pretty Good So Far.......2007-03-03

Most businesses typically give credit to their regular customers it increases sales, makes it more convenient for everyone involved, and is generally speaking good busines sense. But then there is the percentage who don't pay their bill. What do you do then?

In my case the amount owed to me was too small to interest a collection agency, but big enough that it would have a significant impact on my own income. I then got a copy of this book. The author claims to have a bunch of years of expeience in credit and debt collection. And the book reads like she knows what she is talking about.

Perhaps the most important thing is that there are a bunch of legal rules that limit what you can do. After that she gives you some ideas about what to say either on the phone or in a letter -- which are also on a CD included with the book.

I haven't gotten everything collected yet, and I can't say that I enjoy the process. But I've made pretty good progress and it's something that has to be done.
