The Best Book on Mass Market Psychology.......1999-10-13

Tony Plummer's recent visit to New York and his speech at the Princeton Club had prompted me to reread his book. In his quiet, understated, very British way, but with a tremendous clarity and style this professional money manager reveals mass psychology is behind market moves. If the markets drive you crazy with their seemingly irrational swings, read this book to see the logic behind disorder. Tony Plummer illuminates market movements for you in a way that will impact your understanding for as long as you trade. Then he shares some of his analytic techniques. This book belongs on the desk of every serious technical analyst and trader! MAKE SURE you get the latest edition - Forecasting Financial Markets, published in 1998. For some reason, the three editions of his book have been published by three different publishers under different titles (marketing geniuses!!!) who continue to sell their outdated editions, such as this one. So make sure to get the latest one!

What I needed, when I needed it.......2001-09-27

I needed to get up to speed on DMA fast and I got what I needed. It didn't provide all the info I required for my specific application (submicron thin films) but it did provide a sound foundation for further investigation. This is truly what it claims to be, a practical introduction, many thanks to the author.

Finally! The Book That Spells Out The Answers To Questions........2000-02-09

I spent many hours researching for a Thermal Mechanical textbook that was packed full of "Get Down To The Point Answers". Let's face it, there are not many current Thermal Analysis textbooks for sale. The books I've seen are too scrambled with no understanding at the end. This book was VERY informative, and it answered my questions. Special Thanks to the author. Please write many more books with the same intentions in mind: "We would like to understand and learn from what we read"! Thank You!

I ordered this book based on the other review here onamazon.com and was looking for a bit more. A fair bit of the contentis already covered by free application notes on the web and sales literature that the makers of DMA instrumentation pass out for free. If your looking for a solid treatment of the polymer physics of DMA testing, that's not this book; maybe it hasn't been written yet. If you just want to relate DMA testing to real world environments and effects, then there aren't enough good examples in the book or a method to make this book worth the price.

I don't like book translations, so i bought this book at Amazon.France, french language. I't a good companion to John Bollinger book.
This work features interesting visual approach, with studies of slopes and shapes of bollinger bands.

Poor translation..........2001-08-10

Dynamic Technical Analysis is written by one of France's most prominent technicians.

The ideas presented within the book aren't bad. In fact, they are interesting and potentially useful. Unfortunately, due to the book's poor translations, simple ideas become very difficult to comprehend. This is not the translator's fault, really. He is obviously not a trader.

The field of Technical Analysis has its own lingo in English, and non-standard terms were used in the book. This causes great confusion, and makes ideas more difficult to comprehend than necessary.

My second complaint is the price of this thin book. It is way too expensive for the material presented!

Subject not very well explained.......2001-07-31

First of all, I have to mention that this book is not for beginner. It involves a lot of technical terms and techniques that an amateur would not understand. This is probably due to the length of this book because it is so short and full of graphs, it doesn't have enough room to do much explanation and gave examples. Other than that, this is one of the better books that explains rarely discuss TA methods (Bollinger Bands, stochastic, MACD).

I managed to finish reading the book in one day which is fast for such a subject. I was very confused at the beginning 4 chapters because the author used a lot of jargons. It gets better at the later chapters when I got used to some of them and finally understand what they mean. Also, the author mentioned a lot about using some software to produce the charts but he failed to recommend one of them to the readers (actually he did but it's in french). So I have to find one on my own which is not easy but unless you have one that works similar to his, you cannot really apply what you've learned from the book.

Otherwise, the book explained Bollinger Bands, Stochastic, and MACD well. I only wish that the author can give more examples and provide more charts and resources for the readers. It would be best if the book is twice of it original length. I would recommend it if you don't mind the high price tag and have some knowledge of trading.

The advent of accurate and continuous equity price histories made possible the study of equity price movement as a function of time, independent of all other variables.

Early studies of such data produced the conclusion that equity prices vary in a random, hence unpredictable, way.

This conclusion has been replaced in the last decade as evidence mounts that equity price variation is ordered and quasi-predictable.

The relationship between past and future prices is found to be complex and nonlinear. Current simplified models represent price movement as consisting of a linear combination of wave functions with specific and consistent interrelationships. This viewpoint has led to the development of the Wave Theory of Price Action.

From this Wave Theory, a body of practical application methods called Cyclic Analysis has been evolved which permits a fully integrated and wholly technical approach to the problem of trading and investing successfully in the stock and commodity markets.

This approach features the following unique capabilities: prediction of price-reversal timing, prediction of the price at an anticipated reversal, estimation of the extent of the price move expected to follow a reversal, and evaluation of a transaction before entry in terms of risk and profit potential.

Cyclic Analysis methodology has been field tested since 1971, and computerized analysis aids are available.

Not telling you how to trade.......2000-08-31

This is a pamphlet that is basically a primer on J.M. Hurst's Cyclic Analysis Trading Program that he did back in the '70's. Whether or not Cyclic Analysis even works, you decide, but I sure would love to find somebody who can make the returns he promised in his book "Profit Magic of Stock Transaction Timing." If you want to learn about Cyclic Analysis, move on, this won't help you. I'd imagine the person who actually makes the returns Hurst suggested would be the richest person in the U.S. in no time at all. Last time I checked, Bill Gates made his money on Microsoft, not on the theory that stocks will make bottoms every 3 months or every 14 days.

This book is a brief introduction to cycles and how they are used in trading. But it does not have info on how cycle lengths are determined; it appears the author uses a computer program. It might stimulate more interest in cycles, but by itself, won't help your trading, in my opinion.

It is clear that the author cares about the subject and had put a lot of work into the research for this book. However the book is too theoretical and does not give the reader any tangible practical skills. If your objective in reading financial books is to improve your investment record in terms of actual dollars made, than this book is not for you.

Efficient market or the herd behavior?.......2002-01-20

Everyday, reporters and analysts produce dozens of reports about the markets and they try to forecast what will happen next. Most of the time, analyst forecasts are wrong. Market action is in the unexpected direction. The reason why the analysts are often wrong is that they use efficient market hypothesis as a method to forecast the market action. Is the market really efficient and individuals behave rationally or the herd psychology is the main reason of the price action which is following certain patterns?

Mr. Plummer's book handles the problem as a psychological phenomen and examines the dynamics of crowd behaviour. This book clearly describes how financial crowds integrate and disintegrate. Every crowd has a life cycle and in this cycle, the growth, maturity and decline periods follow each other. Mathematical model of the formation and disintegration periods of the bull and bear crowd life cycles, is the Fibonacci number series and this book explains the connections between the growth and decline periods.

Mr Plummer further explains Logarithmic spiral and golden ratio in detail and how they can be used to forecast the future market movements.

This book is a must-read for the financial professionals and the traders.

Outstanding Book........2002-11-25

I found this book to be superbly written. The author covers all aspects of thyrister controlled converters and inverters. He has tremendous knowledge of the subjet.

After reading this book, I've come to completely understand particular characteristics of electric motors. Some examples are: the four quadrant operation of motors; dynamic and regenerative braking, and the difference between the two; and voltage control of motors.

Although I've worked with wound rotor motors I've never seen one with a "slip power energy recovery scheme". This book details such schemes which is very interesting.

The cycloconverter is shown throughout this book which I find extremely interesting. Siemens uses the cycloconverter in their marine electric propulsion systems. I now know more about the cycloconverter.

This is one outstanding book.
