Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
The Wisdom of Wallace D. Wattles I - Including: The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Great & The Science of Being Well
The Science of Getting Rich
THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the reader will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison; and, taking the statements upon faith, that he will prove their truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation. Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich; for the science herein applied is an exact science, and failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who wish to investigate philosophical theories and so secure a logical basis for faith, I will here cite certain authorities. The monistic theory of the universe the theory that One is All, and that All is One; That one Substance manifests itself as the seeming many elements of the material world -is of Hindu origin, and has been gradually winning its way into the thought of the western world for two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the Oriental philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, and Emerson. The reader who would dig to the philosophical foundations of this is advised to read Hegel and Emerson for himself. In writing this book I have sacrificed all other considerations to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might understand. The plan of action laid down therein was deduced from the conclusions of philosophy; it has been thoroughly tested, and bears the supreme test of practical experiment; it works. If you wish to know how the conclusions were arrived at, read the writings of the authors mentioned above; and if you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do.
The Science of Being Great
"... in Mr. Wattles' book, "THE SCIENCE OF BEING GREAT", you will get methods, plans, carefully outlined instruction, for the highest self-development and training for efficient living."
&
The Science of Being Well
If you are well this book will tell you how to keep so. If you are seeking better health this book is for you. _
Each book builds upon the previous one to construct a complete, simple, practical, easy-to-understand, step-by-step system for getting rich, being healthy, and becoming successful.

Highly Recommended!.......2007-05-22
This book is perfect! It's for everyone. Wattles was extremely smart! I am so glad that I own this book. It has so much in it about how to get the most out of life! It's about how to make the healthiest, richest, and greatest life for yourself! It's a must-own.
Science of Getting Rich, Great & Well.......2007-05-16
This trio of books - really more like long essays is a quick read. It is very interesting to see the beginnings of the current "Secret" craze in this early 1900's work. Some of the examples are antiquated due to the period during which it was written, but the basic tenets are very much in line with current abundance and prosperity works I have read. Editors notes help to explain some of the prevalent thinking at the time the books were written.

Product Description
`History: Fiction or Science? Chronology 2` is the second volume of the most explosive and astounding tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by rock solid scientific data. The book is easy and pleasant to read; it is well-illustrated, contains hundreds of charts, graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays. You will be amazed to discover: - That the chronology universally accepted today and taken for granted is simply wrong; - That ALL methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts known today are erroneous or non-exact; - That there is not a single document that could be reliably dated earlier than the XIth century; The Author refers to the Middle Ages as the Antiquity and proves mutual superimposition of the Second and the Third Roman Empire, both of which become identified as the respective kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Furthermore, he asserts that the famous reform of the Occidental Church in the XI century by Pope Gregory Hildebrand was the reflection of the XII century reforms of Byzantine emperor Andronicus who in his turn identifies with Jesus Christ. The Trojan war counted by Homer happened only as late as of the XIII century A.D. and the great poet actually lived in XIV century A.D. No stone in history of Antiquity is left unturned. Literally. This book is the beginning of a major correction to the chronology we live with.

I don't care what other people say of this book. Those affirmig it's fake, they hadn't ever read it. Or have some special reasons to do so. "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see..." This book won't make you feel comfortable. It'll make you feel free. It'll make you feel you're "not the only one" to feel you'd been lied to for centuries.
Suprise! Suprise!.......2007-03-22
Here is a serie of books which turns "the whole world" upside down. I learned a lot of it and I hope that a new book from A.T. Fomenko will follow very quick. A absolute must for everybody who is interested in history or even a little bit from it.
Prescient St Augustine?.......2006-02-05
We can so far divide the New Chronology into the following three parts:
a) The verifiable theory that proves consensual chronology wrong with the aid of astronomy, statistics and mathematics;
b) The new chronology hypothesis based on a new understanding of known historical facts and the most likely logical explanation of the most obvious inconsistencies inherent in the official version of history;
c) The history conjectures, that is experimental historical reconstructions based on assumptions that the authors believe to make sense in the light of their research and linguistic parallels - void of ironclad factual support to date.
Fomenko's theory complies with the most rigid scientific standards as a whole:
It gives a coherent explanation of what we already know.
- It is consistent: independent lines of inquiry all lead to the same conclusion.
- The predictions it makes are confirmed empirically.
Fomenko goes by the following axioms:
- Chronology is the basis of history;
- Human evolution has always been linear, gradual and irreversible;
- The "cyclic" nature of human civilization is a myth, likewise all the gaps, duplicates, "dark ages" and "renaissances" that we know from consensual history;
- The accumulation of geographical knowledge as reflected in cartography is a gradual and irreversible process;
- The chronological distance between a given manuscript and the events described therein is proportional to the amount of distortions it contains;
- There is no "useless" information in authentic ancient sources.
Why the mainstream historians do not shower mathematician Academician Dr.Prof Fomenko with thanks and laurels?
The Russians:
Because Fomenko asserts that there was no such thing as the Tartar and Mongol invasion followed by three centuries of slavery, providing a formidable body of documental evidence to prove his assertion. The so-called "Tartars and Mongols" were the actual ancestors of the modern Russians, living in a bilingual state with Arabic spoken as freely as Russian. The ancient Russian state was governed by a double structure of civil and military authorities. The hordes were actually professional armies with a tradition of lifelong conscription (the recruitment being the so-called "blood tax"). Their "invasions" were punitive operations against the regions that attempted tax evasion. Fomenko proves that Russian history as we know it today is a blatant forgery concocted by a host of German scientists brought to Russia by the usurper dynasty of the Romanovs, whose ascension to the throne was the result of coup d'état, charged with the mission of making their reign look legitimate. Fomenko proves Ivan the Terrible to be a collation of four rulers, no less. They represented the two rival dynasties - the legitimate rulers and the ambitious upstarts. The winner took it all! Over some 30 years of controversy, Russian historians have made a most remarkable transition - they were initially accusing the young mathematician Fomenko of anticommunist dissident activity and attempts to deface the historical legacy of Soviet Russia; nowadays the middle-aged mathematician is accused of adhering to "pro-communist Russian nationalism" and defacing the proud historical legacy of Great Russia.
The Westerners:
Because Fomenko blows consensual Russian history to smithereens, successfully removing a crucial cornerstone from underneath the otherwise impeccable edifice of World History. Fomenko adds insult to injury, wiping out one by one the Ancient Rome (the foundation of Rome in Italy is dated to the XIV century A. D.), the Ancient Greece and its numerous poleis, which he identifies as the mediaeval crusader settlements on the territory of Greece, and the Ancient Egypt (the pyramids of Giza become dated to the XI-XV century A. D. and identified as the royal cemetery of the Global "Mongolian" Empire, no less). The civilization of the Ancient Egypt is irrefutably dated to the XII-XV century A. D. with the aid of the ancient Egyptian horoscopes cut in stone. He was the first one to decipher and date all such horoscopes, coming up with mediaeval dates in every case. English historians rage at the suggestion that the history of Ancient England was de facto a Byzantine import transplanted to the English soil by the fugitive Byzantine nobility. To reward the English historians who consider themselves the true scribes of World History, the cover of the present book portrays Tintoretto's Jesus Christ crucified on the Big Ben.
The Chinese:
Because Fomenko wipes out the Ancient History of China outright. No such thing. Full point. The compilation of the so-called Ancient Chinese History is reliably datable to the XVII-XVIII century only. It is perfectly recognizable as the Ancient European history, reworked and transcribed in hieroglyphs as yet another historical transplantation, this time performed on the Chinese soil by the loving Jesuit hands. The Chinese are the next in line to go berserk. Chinese history is inevitably bound to get both more ancient and more eventful, proportionally to the growing involvement of China in the world affairs. Chinese historians will keep on finding valid proof of prehistoric Chinese spaceflights until the Politburo orders them to shut up.
The Arabs:
Too bad. Islam with all its key figures is datable to XV-XVI century A. D. Arabic historians may find consolation in the crucial historical role of the Ottoman Empire in the XVI-XVII century. The trouble is that this empire was initially a Christian state, with Hagia Sophia identifiable as Temple of Solomon, according to Fomenko! We can only guess if the acquisition of Alexander the Great (a Macedonian and a Christian) as the founder of the Muslim World Empire will make Fomenko's theories more acceptable to the Arabic mainstream. He certainly does not spare any holy cows at all, claiming The Stone of Qa'Aba in Mecca to contain the lost Arch of the Covenant.
The Divinity:
Despite of reiterated statement that his theory is all about chronology and not Religion, Fomenko stirs up a whole condominium of wasp nests. His collection of anathemas, fatwa, and other condemnations from all parties concerned is already considerable. Little wonder, considering that the history of religions à la Fomenko looks as follows: the pre-Christian period (before the XI century and JC), Bacchic Christianity (XI-XII century, before and after JC), JC Christianity (XII-XVI century) and its subsequent mutations into Orthodox Christianity, the Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, and so on.
According to Fomenko we know strictly NOTHING about the events that predate the X century A. D.
St Augustin was prescient when he spoke unto us: "be wary of mathematicians, particularly when they speak the truth."
Something of a disappointment.......2005-09-09
After having read the first volume of this expected series of 7 volumes I was triggered by the thesis of these authors that ancient Greek and Roman history did in fact take place in the Middle Ages. So I started studying medieval history of the Middle East - also known as Islamic history - to find out if the opponents of the ancient Greeks and Romans - the Acheamenid Persians, Sassanids, Scythians, Egyptians, etc. - also have their duplicates in medieval history. My search was disappointing: none of the many medieval Islamic dynasties seemed to correspond to the ancient middle eastern rulers.
However, I did find a close correspondence between Herodotus' Persian kings and medieval events:
- the defeat and capture of an Anatolian king - the Lydian Croesus - by the Persian conqueror Cyrus is identical to the defeat and capture of another Anatolian king - sultan Bayezid - by the Asian/Mongol conqueror Tamerlane;
- the Persian conquest of Egypt by the cruel tyrant Cambyses reds almost exactly as the Ottoman conquest of Egypt by Selim the Grim (note the nickname!);
- Darius the Lawgiver of the Persian Empire looks very much alike to Sulayman the Magnificent, the Lawgiver in Islamic history;
- Xerxes, whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by the Greeks at the naval battle of Salamis, looks like Selim II (the Sot) whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by a Spanish-Italian alliance at the naval battle of Lepanto.
I should have expected Fomenko et al. to arrive at similar conclusions, however, they claim that the Persian kings are the alter egos of the Angevin kings of Sicily whose biographies do not contain the exploits of the Persian kings.
The similiarities I indicate lead to the conclusion that Herodotus must have written his Histories at the close of the 16th century. But this is extremely late, given that Herodotus is "the Father of History", so therefore all other "ancient" histories must have been fabricated even later. Yet, the founders of modern chronology - Scaliger and Petavius - laid their foundations also at the close of the 16th century and had the full corpus of ancient histories already at their disposal.
It seems to me that Fomenko has to address these inconsistencies, maybe in the forthcoming 5 volumes?
Another critique of their book is that the correspondencies between different rulers are often based on a superficial comparison of the biographies; upon a more thorough comparison many details appear that do not correspond at all.
Finally, the authors rely heavily on the works of Gregorovius (1821-1891!!) - his medieval histories of Rome and Athens - as the source of medieval history; these works are - at least in the West - hoplessly outdated and have been superceded by more up-to-date works (for instance, Julius Norwich's trilogy on Byzantine history is not even cited).
Romulus courts Helen, Paris founds Rome, Moses goes to Troy.........2005-07-30
If you agree with Fomenko that Roman chronology is basically the foundation of the entire edifice of global chronology; you would also certainly agree that despite its numerous gaps and inconsistencies, Roman history is the best-documented field of ancient history, and thus a reference scale. But how well is the actual date of the Eternal City's foundation known?
Firstly, Rome is supposed to have been founded by the Trojans who had to flee after the fall of Troy. Some claim Rome to have been founded by Aeneas and Ulysses shortly after Troy had fallen; others are of the opinion that there was an entire dynasty that ruled for 500 years between the fall of Troy and the foundation of Rome.
Well, that's just an innocent 500 years long misunderstanding compared with what heretic Fomenko says, asserts, proves in his second volume: Second Roman Empire, Third Roman Empire, Biblical Kingdom of Israel, Biblical Kingdom of Judah, Holy Roman Empire are stories about basically same events, written from different points of view at different times. The underlying events have actually taken place during xii-xv cy. These histories have been written and perfected by multitude of highly talented humanist and clerical writers of xiii-xvi cy disguised as "ancients" with glorious names like Homer, Pluto, Thucydides etc..Chronology 2.0 beta..

Book Description
In the timeless traditions of The Tao of Pooh and Who Moved My Cheese, three noted experts reveal how the wisdom in Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, can eliminate the #1 stressor for most Americansmoney. The premise is simple: Money isn't the problem; its the relationship we have with money that matters. The root of Scrooges miserly existence was not an anemic cash flow but an unhealthy belief system about money. Through profound quotes from A Christmas Carol, case studies of real people with modern money woes and advice from the authors, the book provides a practical plan to make money your servant rather than your master. Based on the approach featured in The Wall Street Journal readers will learn to: recognize how unconscious Money Scripts may be keeping them trapped; come to terms with how their net worth affects their self-worth; discover their authentic goals and values; look at new ways of permanently changing self-destructive behaviors around money, and how to leave a family legacy of financial wellness.

Life Lesson Learned from A Story Passed on For Generations.......2007-10-08
The three authors take a good look at the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and pull out valuable lessons about money and the emotions behind them. This is a great book for anyone who really wants to understand their relationship with money. The exercises are easy and yet thought provoking. A great read for the holidays.
Review of Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge.......2007-05-24
good integration of practical and spiritual. Helps consolidate the lessons of the other book by same authors, Conscious finance.
A good book on money beliefs.......2007-02-25
Most people will get a lot of a lot of value out of this simple and easy to read book. The book is designed around beliefs in relation to money and finance, which the authors call 'money scripts'. Basically, the book is based on psychological paradigm applied to personal finance. If you're familiar with psychology, therapy and to some extent personal development, you will be familiar with many of the ideas and concepts in this book - denial, the feeling feelings, aspects of wounding in childhood and how beliefs are formed, being in the present and so on. The authors use therapy in their approach of working with people in a one-on-one context including techniques like psychodrama in order to connect with the feeling of the feeling (rather than just the mental concept) in order to release that feeling (i.e. the psychological paradigm that repressed and negative feelings need to be felt and expressed in order to be released).
Most books on finance do not give more than a cursory look at beliefs (if at all) and then they just list a lot of the common beliefs that people have around finance, and usually suggest something like affirmations as way of dealing with them. Their treatment is usually superficial and often derivative. In contrast there's a broader and much more useful treatment in this book. The real value that most readers of this book wil get is that there is discussion of the many different types of financial beliefs and their permutations that people have, where they came from and their likely impact on their life. That is, you will very likely see aspects of your beliefs in these pages, which makes it much more powerful then just seeing a list of beliefs or fears like 'I'll never have enough money'.
There are a number of exercises in the book that you will find very valuable to do. They're not difficult and often don't involve much time although they may sometimes be confronting, if not revealing, and may provide the awareness and impetus that you require to make change in your life. There are tools also that you can use on a more ongoing basis to make change in your life. Unfortunately, as the authors acknowledge, awareness is sometimes not enough to change a belief (something most other books on finance tend to overlook). They provide a practice of re-scripting the belief in this book and discuss the psychodrama type technique used in their seminars although you wont have access to this just by reading the book. While I have my own practice for beliefs (and there are many alternative one could use), what the book lacks in this sense is something to deal with the belief on the energetic level.
The book cleverly weaves the story of Ebenezer Scrooge in order to illustrate their perspective. It certainly makes the book a more enjoyable read than some of the other bland business titles out there and they are to be commended for the excellent research they did on the story. Also, lending to the authenticity is some of the author's own personal stories around their financial histories.
There are, however, a number of assumptions, beliefs, conclusions and connections that in the book don't necessarily hold true in all circumstances. Take for instance the idea that 'For many of us, this pain is the tool that inspires change. If we're lucky enough, we get to experience it while we still have time to alter things. Once more Scrooge is about to experience the pain that brings about transformation.' A belief that pain is the best way to bring about transformation is not a really powerful belief IMHO for someone who wants to be successful in their life. Or take another comment 'Let's face it, life isn't always joyful, nor should it be. Perpetual and unrelenting joy without pain is impossible and is often a form of denial.' So I'd recommend that you read the book with an open mind, as there is an underlying viewpoint (based heavily on the psychological paradigm) that guides their interpretation of the Dicken's story to derive some generalised financial principles, and to what a healthy financial situation would look like, that is not always transparent.
Next, to the model the authors use - it is one of financial 'enlightenment', based on a five stage process:
1. Denial and intervention
2. Exploring the past
3. Understanding the present
4. Contemplating the future
5. Transformation and action
My simplest, summary of that would be, come out of denial about your past and understand it and what caused it and the limiting beliefs you hold, come into the present and see reality as it is, use tools of transformation to heal the past or wounds you have (based on feeling the unexpressed feelings), come into the present where you can live in more abundance and authenticity, and then contemplate the future you would like to create. The authors use the 'death' as an advisor model (i.e. what would you regret if you died tomorrow, how would you like people to have seen you, etc.) for examining what is important to you and then designing authentic goals based on this insight. Finally, take new actions based upon these realisations using a slightly varied model of SMART goals.
Importantly they warn at the end about financial counselors and I'd suggest extending that to all counselors and therapists who have not done any inner work (or rely heavily on one type of modality), since they can unconsciously project their interpretation reality and unexamined belief systems onto you. Even today, I'd suggest it would be very challenging to find people to work with that have that degree of depth in their own self-awareness. Having done my own healing and therapist training, I realise that many therapists, as well meaning as they are, just don't have that depth of self-awareness and tend to just run their model or training on you. Many of the people in my therapist training course had done little or no therapy or inner work on themselves and had little desire to pursue that to any depth. Moreover, many people with university psychology degrees have not done any deep inner work themselves. It's the old saying, 'when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.' I almost shudder to think of people with a specialist background in finance running a very basic and limited knowledge of therapy on the client.
For instance, I had a therapist trainer that believed that it took two years of deep therapy before any real progress could be made and at least 10 years before substantial transformation could occur. How long do you think it might take for her clients to change? (And the client would be oblvious this expectation or belief the therapist had of the healing process). Others believe you must undergo substantial pain in order to heal... 'original pain' is what some call it. How much suffering do you think their clients would go through before they could change? While it's true many older people actually did experience this kind of process of healing (and I feel for them, many did it real tough), I don't think that necessarily needs to be the case today. I say this because it's important to check out the belief systems behind the methods, teachings and teachers you use. Most people don't. They take what they read at face value with little or no relfection upon it and choose teachers and teachings simply because they are popular in the public domain.
The authors do provide a few questions at the back of the book that you could ask such a potential financial therapist. As mentioned earlier in my review, and also the book, simple awareness of your beliefs may not be sufficient for you to be able to change them... you may need to work with someone else. So you'd need to be able to make your choices with discernment.
In summary, The Financial Wisdom of Ebenezer Scrooge is an easy read, the some of the tools and insights you will find to be powerful and each chapter has a useful summary and points for application at the end. It covers the topic of beliefs better than anything else I've read in personal finance. While I think there are a few shortcomings, they're relatively minor. All in all, it's a good read with some useful tools, that are made powerful when you explore them and apply them in the context of your own situation.
Thanks for reading my review.
Best wishes to you on your financial journey... I hope you experience an abundance of all good things in yours and your loved ones lives.
Impressed Financial Advisor.......2007-01-03
The book is great at showing root causes of money dysfunction in a simple format based upon a well known story. Anyone can understand it and I highly encourage all to read it.
Not your average investment book.......2006-11-20
As a syndicated credit and debt columnist with [...] and Scripps-Howard I see a lot of financial material and hear a lot of sad stories surrounding money. This rather unique book took me back to my roots as a psychiatric, financial and credit counselor when it dealt not only with net worth but self worth. It will help many people learn how to see and live with money not just for money's sake but as a way to free their inner-selves with a guiltless freedom borne of financial security. The points in the book will help rescript your life and attitude about money by showing how money alone can't fill those holes in your life. The authors go on to show you how to build a strong vision of your future and to live a life that has greater passion, meaning and integrity than you may now think is possible.
I recommend that you take the time to read and think about this book before your ghost of Christmas Future comes calling!
Book Description
An agressive approach to the new economy from America's most trusted financial consultant.
The incredible economic growth of the past few years may have made scores of new millionaires, and plenty of rich people, but it hasn't made managing your personal and business finances any easier. In fact, most of the old rules and principles have proved ill-suited to this new environment.
The Die Broke Complete Book of Money is the definitive guide to modern money management. The man famous for turning conventional wisdom on its head expounds on the new rules for the new millennium with an opinionated, hard hitting, and informative style. Sophisticated and succinct, this incisive and engaging audio is filled with offbeat, practical advice that stems from Pollan's unconventional strategies. It is an indispensable resource for anyone who wants financial success.
Customer Reviews:
Good info, just not right for the audio cassette format.......2002-06-15
I love Stephen Pollan's work. However, listening to the Complete Book of Money on cassette is like listeining to an encyclopedia on cassette. The book is written as a reference and the audio version is basically the author reading each entry in alphabetical order. I loved the intro where he reviews topics from other books as a primer for the info to follow.
I'll buy the book and keep it on my shelf as a reference, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to finish all 4 cassettes.
Buy the book- the info is great.
Junk of money tips.......2002-05-22
Listened audio tape edition of this book. Though the contents are somewhat helpful, the recording is all junk of money tips. I don't understand why the author needed to discuss Mutual fund, Neighborhood, Nursing Home, then Outsourcing (your business) followed by Pension plan in that order. Can Mutual fund and Pension plan be discussed in sequence?
Each one of topic is not discussed in detail, so you better off read a book for particular topic you are interested. I would call this book "Complete Book of Incomplete Money Tips".
Book Description
Tom Schneider, a former CEO, is currently a professional poker player. After noticing the similarities between the business and the gaming worlds, he realized that he had a story to tell...actually, he had sixty-one stories to tell. This book is the result of Tom's experiences in the boardroom and at the poker table.
People from varied backgrounds, including members of corporate America and gamblers from Vegas, have taught Tom how to read people. You will enjoy reading Tom's humorous, educational, and sometimes poignant renditions of games he has played both well and badly, people he has met who have changed his life, and hands he has won...and lost. Ultimately, you'll come to realize what Tom now knows: everything in life is a gamble.
Customer Reviews:
Overrated.......2007-09-07
I bought this book because more than a few reviewers gave it 5 stars. The author must have called in favors because as poker or business advice it is hard to imagine anyone taking his "wisdom" seriously. He constantly hypes his previous business positions and seems to address his audience as if they are high school drop-outs on drugs. Bad advice is somehow acceptable if it also includes bad humor. Here are some examples:
"Winning Wisdom #7: The telephone is the best invention of all time. Use it"
"Winning Wisdom #9: If you won a bronze medal at the last Olympics in the 100-meter dash, no need to tell that seventy-year-old man about it before you dust him for $5,000 at the local high school track."
"Winning Wisdom #10: When you get fat, dumb, and happy, leave the dumb part out."
"...but 90 percent of the time a decent player plays, he has a win at some point during the play. Yet that same player may only have a winning percentage of 60 percent at the end of the night. He's not a good quitter."
"Winning Wisdom #18: You'll be in the spin cycle several times in your life. Don't make big decisions while you're in it..."
"Winning Wisdom #20: Anyone can be the best. You just have to do the right thing."
"If there is one thing that I would like women to learn from his book, it's not to complain about your weight or looks to your fat, ugly friends."
Come to think of it, this book IS laughable.
Sage Advice.......2007-04-18
I don't think this book offers anything new for neither the top professional poker player nor the CEOs of the Fortune 500. However, anyone else in between will surely come away with at least a few common sense gems of wisdom which can be applied in our everyday lives. The stories about the colourful poker characters and crabby old office ladies are somewhat interesting. It is when the author explains how to understand and benefit from their motives is where the value of this fine read shows through. Apparently the author has a lot more sage advice than he does hair. I plan on re-reading this at least once a year.
Will enable poker players to become better at playing the game and living their lives .......2006-07-07
A Certified Public Accountant and former President and Chief Financial Officer for three Arizona-based companies, Tom Schneider found that his background and experience in business and management were readily adaptable to playing and winning at poker. Becoming successful in going up against some of the most accomplished players in some of the biggest poker games around, Tom became and professional poker player (and the host of Texas' first televised poker tournament) for the last four years and has finished "in the money" four times at the World Series of Poker. Now he brings together in the pages of Oops! I Won Too Much Money: Winning Wisdoms From The Boardroom To The Poker Table (also available in a paperback edition, 1933285389, $16.95) all the hard earned wisdom he's learned in business, in poker, and in life to provide aspiring poker players with wit, humor, and "life lessons learned" that will enable poker players to become better at playing the game and living their lives .
Wisdom everyone should tap into.......2006-03-16
Review by Bette Daoust, Ph.D. for Reader Views (3/06)
In my estimation I am not a gambler but in reality after reading this book, I recognize the signs of a true gambler at business. Some of us go to the poker table while others play the game of business. No matter which way you go, you are always taking risks and perhaps even educated risks. Poker is about knowing when you have a positive edge and when you should recognize where you stand at all times. Business is no different. Tom Schneider opens the eyes to the similarities between how we work the business game as a parallel to the game of poker.
His wisdom comes from deep experience and is not just giving platitudes about what we should be doing. His insights ring true. This book will help the reader to strengthen their game in either world because you will be more aware of the nature of other people in the inside the game.
This book packs a lot of information into an easy read - wisdom everyone should tap into.
Common sense approach to life and business.......2006-02-17
Tom Schneider doesn't tell us too much we don't already know in his new book. But he reminds us of important things we maybe don't pay attention to enough. I finished his easy to read book in a couple of evenings. The writing style is almost like a wizened old uncle telling interesting stories. Never heavy handed or hard to decipher he reveals truths about life and business through clear clean parables.
This is a book you will enjoy and enjoy giving friends.

Book Description
Refreshingly practical and immensely entertaining, national financial commentator Andrew Leckey gives his advice on money matters through the sage and prophetic wisdom of Mark Twain (a financial genius in his own time).
An avid buyer and seller of stocks, Mark Twain loved to poke fun at the financial markets and the irresistible urge of speculation. He was fascinated by scoundrels seeking to snatch the money of others, with two prime examples of this being the King and the Duke in the great American novel Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain was born in poverty. Through eclectic business endeavors and smart investing, he amassed great wealth by age 50. He went bankrupt at 60, and became wealthy again at 70. He prospected for silver, sold his own books by subscription and took out patents on numerous inventions. His occupations included riverboat pilot, printer, and travel writer.
Using the words of Mark Twain, Andrew Leckey, an accomplished financial journalist known to millions for anchoring CNBC, imparts the lessons today's investor can learn from Twain. Leckey has combed Twain's novels, stories, speeches, and letters for telling sayings about making, saving, guarding, and growing money. The book will be humorous and fun to read as it offers down-to-earth advice-as Leckey puts it-it will be as if Warren Buffett met the Beardstown Ladies.
Among the slices of timeless investment wisdom, Twain-style:
Divide and conquer your portfolio.
The law of averages eventually makes you right.
He who hesitates can save a lot.
Every period in history had fool's gold.
Customer Reviews:
Very Disappointed.......2001-10-31
The blurbs for this book are very misleading. It is a text for beginning investors. Each chapter starts with a quote from Twain, but it has little else to do with him. The entire references to Twain probably don't exceed 5 pages of text. If you are interested in Mark Twain - forget it. Not much here. If you are interested in basic investing principles - likewise forget it - I have seen much better.
More Twain, Less Leckey.......2001-09-19
I was hoping this book would be more Twain and less Leckey. I was disappointed. Each chapter starts with one quote from Twain, and Leckey provides some background context. That's about 10% of the book. The other 90% is Investing 101 stuff.
A lighthearted investment primer.......2001-08-06
The author intertwines Mark Twains' insight, humor, and timeless wisdom with the current investment landscape. This is a good, yet basic primer for someone wanting to understand investment opportunities and pitfalls available today. It provides perspective on speculative opportunities, scams, and solid investments, choices that have been available to the novice and savvy investor alike since Twains' time.
The book contains 49 easily digestible chapters including: "The Law of Averages Eventually Makes You Right", "He Who Hesitates Can Save a Lot More" "Mutual Fund Expenses Can Hoodwink You" "Every Period in History Had It's Fools Gold", all applicable to today's investor.
There are many similar books on the market offering the same or similar advice. If you enjoy Mark Twain, and prefer your investment reading to be sprinkled with his perspective, buy this one, otherwise keep looking, you'll find another equally good book that provides the basics.
First rate!.......2001-01-24
This book does a great job of capturing Mark Twain's humor and bringing it into a modern day investment context. Investing is serious business, but we can still laugh at our mistakes while we learn from them because chances are we're not the first to make them.
If you loved reading Mark Twain growing up, you'll love both his wisdow and wit on investing.
Mark Twain, Investments and Humor.......2001-01-23
Financial columnist and television commentator Andrew Leckey has produced a facinating book of humorous and useful investment advice drawing on the writings of Mark Twain. If Twain with his erratic investments and bittersweet results seems an unlikely investment adviser, guess again. He made (and lost) several fortunes and managed along the way to accumulate some wisdom that is pertinent today. Andrew Leckey gracefully takes Twain's amusing observations and connnects them to today's market where people still make (and lose) fortunes.

Customer Reviews:
Basic personal finance with a lighthearted Christian slant........2004-01-09
"Priceless" is a quick read, but it lightheartedly conveys basic financial advice that can bring long-term benefits. Like the subtitle states, Mr. Ramsey dispenses "straight-shooting, no-frills financial wisdom" that is mainly geared toward getting out of debt and becoming fiscally responsible (If you already have control of your money and are looking for information about becoming wealthy, then you might be better served reading "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko).
After looking over his other books and website, it appears that "Priceless" is merely an introduction to the author's personal finance master strategy. Indeed, it primarily contains testimonials, autobiographical anecdotes, various proverbial sayings, and Biblical verses related to money. If you desire more in-depth instruction and by-the-numbers techniques on money management using Mr. Ramsey's methods, you'll have to get his other finance books and/or become a member of his online "Total Money Makeover" club. "Priceless" is a good, inexpensive way to see if that course of action might appeal to you or not.
Even though I just read "Priceless", I had long ago implemented some of Mr. Ramsey's primary debt reduction strategies: put aside an emergency savings fund, paid off debts using the "snowball" method, and got rid of extraneous credit cards. I'm happy to say that these methodologies do help slay the debt monster, although to be honest you can find variations on them in countless books of this nature. However, "Priceless" distinguishes itself with a Biblically-based financial stewardship slant, including a challenge to use money for the glory of God and the good of others via tithing and giving. That's probably the best single financial principle Mr. Ramsey offers.
Good Information in a Small Package.......2003-08-01
The book is too short to contain much in-depth information on finances/money management, but Dave Ramsey has managed to CONDENSE enough IMPORTANT information to make it worthwhile reading.
If you're the type who "zones out" when reading about money or personal finance, a book of this type may be just right for you.
Worth the money, and the short amount of time it will take you to read it.
Also, the suggestions Ramsey makes are practical and easy to do.
As the title says, the advice is straight-shooting, no frills.
Good Light Reading Gift Book.......2002-07-11
The demure size of this hardcover book, with its stylish graphics and thoughtful layout, is ideal for gift-giving or bedside reading (perhaps in a guest room).
While it is not the in-depth, hard-hitting and detailed how-to treatment of Dave Ramsey's debt-free message, such as one will find in "Financial Peace," it does cover Ramsey's essential baby steps to debt freedom.
The Priceless book can be a bit heavy in finance-related quotations, which prevents this from reaching a higher rating from this reader, nevertheless, it is a light way to get a tricky subject across to the casual reader.
This book is not detailed, nor was it meant to be. It is a fine introduction on the topic of debt-free choices and lifestyle, and a gentle way of passing along the credit free message. It contains not only finance-related quotations, but also testimonials, charts, and Dave Ramsey's own words of wisdom. While this volume does not contain new information, for those who have already completed the Financial Peace book by Dave Ramsey, it is a fine presentation of a sticky topic for the new reader, someone who would normally not pick up a heavy volume of personal finance.

This is the best investing book on the market.......2002-06-10
I have read them all, and this is by far the best.
Average.......2002-02-11
This book does not convey any new ideas, but is a good overall summation of some very sound wealth creation techniques and theories.
A Good Read!.......2001-05-08
"If I were a rich man," goes the song. Well, if you were, this is how you would invest. Michael F. Lane draws on the advice of top money managers and financial planners to help readers in five key areas: 1) wealth planning, 2) wealth accumulation, 3) wealth without tax, 4) wealth transfer and 5) wealth protection and preservation. The book is aimed at the individual investor with a relative lack of experience in the financial marketplace. The broad overview includes basics of planning your portfolio, E-trading, making investments more tax efficient (for U.S. investors) and estate planning. This solid guide emphasizes fundamentals, although sometimes the discussion becomes repetitious. And, when different advisers give contradictory advice, the diversity of opinion can seem confusing. Lane might have done more summarizing and synthesizing, but we [...] recommend his solid book as a generally good guide for prospective and new investors who want a reason to sing.

I found Michael Lane's book "Secrets of the Wealth Makers" to be very informative and an easy read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in accumulating wealth or understanding how to protect and transfer their existing wealth.
Inside Perspective.......2000-07-28
As one of the Registered Investment Advisors (RIA's) interviewed by Michael Lane for his newest book, "Secrets of the Wealth Makers", it was with a certain level of excitement that I spent my weekend reading it cover to cover. Although I recognized some of the other advisors by name, I had never met nor talked to any of them. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency of our advice.
It is important for any reader of "Secrets of the Wealth Makers" to understand that this is not a technical manual on the latest investment strategies or a "how to" book on managing your money. There are plenty of those out there, even though most of the recommended strategies are far from proven. In contrast, Lane focuses on an investor's human relationship with the investment marketplace. It looks at both the intellectual as well as the emotional issues that individuals must deal with to be successful investors. In keeping with his relationship theme, Lane does an excellent job of helping the reader understand the role a professional Registered Investment Advisor plays in the search for financial peace-of-mind.
This book is also helpful in identifying the issues that need to be considered when an investor selects a professional advisor. But don't confuse this book with one of the many available about investment gurus. None of the advisors cited by Lane here professes to be a guru and, in fact, Lane seems to suggest that successful gurus (over the long run) don't exist. Instead, Lane identifies "top advisors" as those who are genuinely concerned about their clients' well being. These advisors clearly understand the human side of investment issues.
One of the best elements of "Secrets of the Wealth Makers" is that it encourages readers to raise their expectations of service from any investment professional they're considering. In this day, with everyone from stock brokers to insurance agents to bankers calling themselves financial advisors, prospective clients need as much information about evaluating these professionals as they do about investment techniques.
"Secrets of the Wealth Makers" also provides broad coverage of most of the wealth management strategies currently in use, and has an excellent index for reference. With Michael Lane's easy to read style, combined with interesting stories from top money managers, you'll find this book not only a quick read, but one you'll want to refer back to often in your search for a professional investment advisor or in evaluating your existing advisor.
Another good book you might consider is "Twenty Five Myths You've Got To Avoid If You Want To Manage Your Money Right" by Jonathan Clements. It is real information about the real world of investing, debunking the hype.
