Customer Reviews:
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse........2007-09-23
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse. Has all the details to help you start or clean-up an operation and help it run like a well oiled machine.
This is a must...........2006-10-30
This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.
It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.
I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .
Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.
Great warehousing and material handling book.......2003-05-03
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.
Customer Reviews:
Viewpoint of a novice.......2007-01-10
I bought this book because I was to lead a group in developing an RFP but had no experience with RFP's. I don't know how this book will meet the needs of anyone with a lot of experience but I am extremely impressed by its readability, organization, and applicability. I'm still working on the project but have gotten good feedback on what I've developed, which I could not have done without the guidance and information in the book. It is logically sequenced and appears to cover all bases, though someone with a lot more experience would be better able to assess this. Impressed? Very.
RFP Review.......2006-03-15
The book is an easy read and provides me with the needed understanding of developing an RFP and template.
Resource and guidelines with a coherent approach.......2004-03-01
There are literally hundreds of good books on proposal writing, but only a tiny handful on writing RFPs. From among the handful this book stands out for a number of reasons:
(1) It clearly described the RFP process from start to finish - and RFP development is a process with a defined life cycle.
(2) The author goes well beyond the immediate objective of writing an RFP and managing the process by including thought-provoking material on post-award vendor management. This material sometimes escapes the RFP development team who is more focused on getting to the award milestone without thinking about the post-award ramifications.
(3) It's not boring - the writing is lively, and the material is presented at a fast pace. The pace, however, does not leave gaps. Every facet of the RFP process is covered in sufficient detail.
In addition to the above, the approach set forth in this book is consistent with best practices in RFP development. I especially like the copious checklists, the RFP roadmap, and the way illustrations are skillfully used to reinforce concepts and advice.
Note that the focus of this book is information technology and software acquisition. Some of the material is unique to those domains; however, the basic principles and RFP process can be used for virtually any type of RFP, from office services to purchasing furniture.
Overall, this is the one book I recommend for RFP development. If you are an IT professional, regardless of role, the chances are you will be involved in this process at some point in your career, making this book a valuable addition to your library. If you have recently been assigned to an RFP team you should get this book as soon as possible, and use it as your compass and blueprint if your organization does not already have a formal RFP process in place.
Good Resource.......2003-05-13
A great resource for preparation and review of an RFP. A helpful guide for people with and without RFP experience.
The RFP book that htelp me to do the job well done.......2003-01-04
I was in charge to define the RFP for a big imaging system project and this book gave me the tools to plan, supervise and create the RFP that point out the requirements, so the providers can easily develop the correct solution in their proposal.
This book is ahead. Has very good explanation (easy to read and understand), well structured and the examples are good to have a clear idea of the content that should have all the topic of the RFP. It gave me the tools to map the plan, the definition of the requirements and the development of the RFP document.
This book must be in any library.

Book Description
The primary focus of this text is to provide a bridge for students between the academic world and the real world. This bridge is built through an understanding of what is law, how law is created, how law affects almost every activity of human conduct, and how legal institutions operate. Intended mainly for architectural and engineering students, but increasingly for those in business schools and law schools, this text features a clear, concise, and jargon-free presentation. It probes beneath the surface of legal rules and uncovers why these rules developed as they did, outlines arguments for and against these rules, and examines how they work in practice. Updated with the most recent developments in the legal aspects of architectural, engineering, and the construction processes, this text is also a valuable reference for practitioners that has been cited in over twenty-five court decisions.

Legal Aspect of Architecture, ENgineering and Construction Process.......2007-04-02
Excellent Book, It a wealth of Materials and mandatory reading for Construction Management program at the University Of Washington Master Program in Civil and Construction.. The material is spot on for Construction management
The best.......2006-02-21
First, I am not a lawyer, but a praticing design/ contruction professional. I have used this book for years. I find it very well written and easy to use. I have loaned it to so many lawyers when thing get tight that I don't remember all of them. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has to deal with contracts and construction. When things start to go sour, its a great resource for all parties involved.
Great for a Law Student.......2004-01-27
This is probably the most comprehensive construction law book I have ever read. It is an absolute must for a law student taking construction law.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too complicated.......2003-05-14
If you happen to be studying construction law IN LAW SCHOOL, then this is your book.
If, on the other hand, you are in the construction business and are looking for a practical book on construction law, keep looking. This is not your book. It is extremely difficult to read and Sweet writes in such a sophisticated manner that it borders on arrogance. It's not uncommon to find entire paragraphs that consist of one sentence. I found myself scratching my head and asking, "what in the hell did he just say?" Re-reading convoluted law text is not fun.

Customer Reviews:
Prepare for a full brain..........2006-12-13
A ravenous beastie, technology eats everything it touches. Our daily lives, the way we shop, how we communicate, our work habits, the way we entertain ourselves, and how we exist day by day have all irreversibly transmogrified in the maw of the computer and information age. Now we live like network packets, shooting from node to node with rarely a pause, gathering and transporting information. In degrees of busyness, we've outdone the bees. Such a tsunami of change has to impact the way we govern ourselves. And of course it does. Not even the law escapes technology.
Patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets. Technology has chiseled into each one of these modes of intellectual property protection. But the issues remain complicated and hairy, and this book, with text thick as shag carpet, provides a detailed starting point for exploring the legal implications of technology.
After a thorough introduction to the United States' legal system, some 75 pages worth, the book dives into patent law. Any questions about the nature of patents such as cost, usefulness, novelty, nonobviousness, infringement, or validity receive apt treatment. The book even throws in an overview of the significant Patent Reform Act, not yet passed as of this writing. This Act promises to overhaul the United States patent system, potentially obsoleting some of the information presented. Concerning the patentability of computer programs, the whole drama gets laid out like an adventure tale. Computer programs didn't become patentable overnight. Some even doubted their eligibility for protection.
Trade secrets and their discontents, such as reverse engineering, receive a bulky chapter. These issues affect nearly all technology employees. Use caution, because tricks, shortcuts, or streamlined processes taken from one company to the next could, depending on the circumstances, misappropriate secret information. And when that happens the lawyers come out swinging.
The fuzzy nature of Copyright law receives as much tree bark as patent law. Questions arise on this subject often, especially in regard to the internet. Can I copy an image and put it on my site? Can I legally download digital music? What if a .jpeg doesn't have a copyright notice? The book provides a suitable background to answer these. And, similar to patents, the copyrightablility of computer programs also weaved a loopy route. At first they received overwhelming protection, which disturbed judges, who then abstracted, filtered, and compared protection down to a mere kernal of expression. The entire yarn gets told.
The book ends with chapters on trademarks, domain name issues, tort liability, privacy law, and issues related to contracts, particularly "shrink-wrap" and "click-wrap" licenses. At over 600 pages, the book defies summary. Prepare for a full brain.
Along the way, excerpts from actual court cases, including many Supreme Court decisions, bolster the main text. Not only that, a case study, CoolEdge, runs through the entire length of the book, elucidating murky concepts with comprehensible examples.
This book won't turn readers into lawyers, but it will open up a world of technology law to those with the gusto to brave its dense contents. Some chapters take upwards of two or three hours to complete. But the effort offers great rewards of legal knowledge at a detailed level unobtainable in most survey books or on FAQ websites. Best of all, no legal knowledge is required upon entry. Absolute beginners can comprehend every word in this book. As such it provides a great, but ardous, starting point for technology law.
Hot Field, Hot Book!.......2000-10-30
Call this book Release 2.0! It's a fine upgrade from Prof. Burgunder's prior release.
With the growth in the internet and the advent of business method patents, interest in patent, trademark and copyright issues has surged to new heights. Awareness and integration of these legal aspects into our management of technology is absolutely vital for the future.
I practice law. Specifically, I work on intellectual property matters. I am also building two websites. As a result, I am keen on staying on top of my field. Professor Burgunder's new treatise is an important addition to the literature in this field. He writes in an accessible manner: open to students, interested people and legal practitioners alike. In addition, the arrangement of the book is well thought-out: you don't have to read or study it from the first chapter. Depending on your familiarity with this field, you can select topics and areas to review or you can build a college course around the book.
I was also delighted to see that Dr. Burgunder has been intelligent in the use of a web site to keep the book current.
If you are interested in technology and legal issues, this is a great book to help you! I recommend it heartily.
Stay Current on Technology & The Law!.......2000-07-28
A splendid piece of work! It is timely and up-to-date with all the most recent & important technological law issues, including the Internet. It contains sophisticated analysis, but in an easy-to-read style. I particularly liked how the Internet is treated in the context of associated technology issues, rather than segregated as a separate unrelated universe. A big plus is the web site connected to the book where Burgunder provides updates about current issues --- such as Napster, Internet linking, and the antitrust case against Microsoft. This will keep the material fresh for years to come! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about technology law. It's a winner!
helpful, well written, informative.......2000-07-26
I bought this book because it was the most recent publication purporting to explain technology law. Although I thought the price was a little high, I sure got more than my money's worth. This book really covers the most important and interesting topics in technology law, and it does so extremely well. Biotech, Internet patents, privacy, obscenity, copyrights, trade secrets, click-wraps, domain names, design protection, strategies for computer programs, the Microsoft Antitrust case-you name it and this book has got it. The book also deals with international matters, such as the WTO, and international strategic considerations. The court case examples are well selected, and the editing is superb. They are not to short to be trivial, but not to long either. I also visited the Web site mentioned on the back cover. It already has a bunch of helpful updates, including the Napster and DVD encryption (DeCSS) debates, among many others. This really is a great book. I recommend it highly.
Lawyers and Beyond!.......2000-05-09
A must reading for not only lawyers, but for techies who must know the implications of trademark, patent, and copyright law. Because of the clarity of the writing, it is also an intersting read for the general public. Can't wait for the new book...!
Book Description
Capital-intensive projects throughout the world -- including large-scale energy, infrastructure, toll road, solid waste, and recycling projects -- rely on project finance as the most important financing technique available. But the complexity of project finance requires that the practitioner predict and resolve a number of potential risks involving bankruptcy, currency, and political issues, among others, and often in emerging economies. Drawing on the author's 15-plus years of experience in all types of project finance, The Law and Business of International Project Finance is the first comprehensive, multi-discipline book to address these risks and their resolution and to detail each of the elements necessary for a successful project financing. Mirroring the structure of an actual project finance deal, this all-in-one handbook examines each step of the process, from the rationale for the project finance, through risk allocation and mitigation, to dispute resolution. Topics discussed include financing sources, environmental issues, bilateral and multilateral support, contract aspects and typical contract terms, project contracts as credit support, project finance loan documents, collateral documents, and permits. All participants in a project financing -- including lenders, developers, investors, host governments, governmental agencies, multilateral and bilateral agencies, off-take purchasers, input suppliers, contractors, and operators -- can turn to The Law and Business of International Project Finance as an accessible tool and a reliable research database. Its unique combination of practical features includes + a checklist of key considerations to assist the practitioner in structuring, negotiating and reviewing a project finance transaction; + a detailed glossary of project finance terms; + references to legal and business books and articles relating to project finance; and + sample project finance clauses and provisions with discussion and suggestions for implementation. These features enable practitioners and non-practitioners at all levels to understand the components and language of project finance and to recognize and avoid potential pitfalls.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......1999-04-28
We bought a copy for our project finance/infrastructure finance dept. at our bank. It's excellent, especially the due diligence checklist
Brilliant.......1998-10-20
This is the one project finance book I keep at my desk and take with me on business trips. It is invaluable. The book is filled with important information I need when working on a project finance deal (sample contract provisions; explanations of currency risks; financing sources; World Bank lending characteristics; political risk insurance; and on and on. The author manages to do the impossible--he combines legal and business aspects of project finance in an easy-to-use format, from a real life perspective. Each part of a project finance deal is addressed in separate chapters.
My only criicism is that the author uses the European-favored expansive table of contents, rather than a detailed index. Yet, the book is so well organized that the information is easy to find.
It's clearly the best legal and business book on project finance available. It gives me, as a business person, a real edge.
Excellent and comprehensive.......1998-10-02
A well thought out treatise on project finance covering not just the legal issues, but also from a commercial perspective. One of the better books on the subject

Customer Reviews:
An excellent practical tool........2001-04-28
This book is an excellent practical tool to gain understanding on how the Production Sharing Contracts/ Agreements of the international oil industry work and how the negotiations on PSA normally flow. Johnston does not concentrate on cultural aspects of a particular country, but rather on the mechanics of the PSA and its major issues. The topics that Johnston covers are "Petroleum Fiscal Systems," "Concessionary Systems," "Production Sharing Contracts," "Risk Service Contracts," "Threshold Field Size Analysis," "Global Market for Exploration Acreage," "Production Sharing Contract Outline" "Accounting Principles," and "Double Taxation." This introductory comprehensive overview of PSA concepts is written in a clear and understandable manner so that even a person without a background in accounting, taxation, and oil engineering is able to understand the author's explanations and conclusions. This source will be most helpful to consult if one is interested in learning or simply clarifying the concepts of exploration economics, oil taxation, contract/fiscal terms, and PSA negotiations in the international context.

Book Description
In 1999 FIDIC introduced a new 'Red Book ' for international civil engineering and large building projects, together with new Yellow, Silver and Green forms of contract for other types of project. However, the previous edition of the Red Book (the fourth edition) continues to be widely used and it seems likely that the 1999 edition will not replace it in the medium term, at least in certain parts of the world. This important work therefore continues to be based on the fourth edition of the Red Book and considers the many developments affecting the fourth edition that have taken place since 1997, when the second edition of this book was published, and relates them to key contracting issues. It also includes an important new section considering the 1999 Red, Yellow, Silver and Green forms and how they interact with the previous form.
