Book Description
A centuries-old Chinese practice, feng shui has captured the Western imagination as a tool for design and well-being. In this classic book, complete with helpful drawings and photographs, Sarah Rossbach shows how anyone can apply its principles to enhance their careers, family life, health, and prosperity.
Rossbach interprets the teachings of feng shui master Lin Yun for contemporary Westerners, offering practical methods for achieving harmony with one's environment. Focusing on common problems in business and residential settings, she discusses everything from the site of a building to furniture arrangement to wall decoration. In a chapter new to this edition, she explains how to choose colors that satisfy individual needs and preferences. Rossbach's easy-to-execute advice includes such simple steps as moving a microwave oven, repositioning a desk, and hanging mirrors to alleviate negative influences.

A Must Have to Re-arrange your Furniture for Maximum Prosperity and Health.......2006-07-18
This book on Feng Shui covers only topics related to interior design, but is a must have reference, since is filled with practical information, and detailed description with examples of different possible room shapes that you most certainly will encounter at home. Each case scenario is accompanied with diagrams and figures to help understand even better how the placement of a mirror, a bed, or a fish tank can affect the mood, luck, prosperity, or even the health of each family member.
"Interior Design with Feng Shui" teaches how to re-arrange your home to be in complete harmony with nature and with the surrounding environment, optimizing the energy flowing through your house.
This book is for everyone, not only for interior designers or architects, since it is written in a readable and clear way, including fundamental concepts of Feng Shui, and a glossary for the beginner.
Authoratative Classic on Feng Shui.......2005-08-23
Another great book by Sarah Rossbach; extremely informative and well written. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to improve their lot in life with Feng Shui. Also check out her other book regarding Feng Shui and colour, co-written with Master Lin Yun.
Wonderful Guide to understand the flow of energy.......2005-01-06
I've read a number of Feng Shui books, so when this one was recommended and sent to me by a good friend, everything fell into place!!! all the missing information, the little details, everything I read before was fully understood once I had this marvel in my hand.
After reading 18 books of Feng Shui I can totally recommend this one...Thank You Sarah!!!
Not necessarily the place to begin........2002-06-28
I'd had this book recommended to me as a good one with which to begin to understand Feng Shui. While I will agree that aspects of it were clear and full of practical application (the examples of room layouts, etc.), in general I found the book to be poorly organized and certainly not enough in and of itself to gain a basic understanding of Feng Shui.
I found that I learned enough to be interested further, and got some practical advice about furniture placement. Not where I would send a beginner, however.
The Bible of Feng Shui.......2002-03-31
This should be considered the first and foremost guide to Feng Shui. With a metaphysical/new age trend running rampant, people interested in mixing eastern culture and spirituality with our impatient and wasteful western world, need this book before any other.
Book Description
Simons, a feng shui master and astrologer, teaches readers how to feng shui their homes in a clear, step-by-step fashion and gives personalized advice based on readers' dates of birth. Simons presents not only the popular eight-point method but also divining techniques and other authentic Chinese methods that make analysis more complete. Illustrations.

An ok book to have on Feng Shui.......2005-07-30
Feng Shui Step by Step is a book of some 200 or more pages...most of which are informative and useful. The book is a good size so you don't get that small print overpacked info feeling when reading. The author invests ample explanation clear and understandable about the basics. It doesn't have a lot of boring introduction but gets straight to it without skipping essentials. The introduction actually has a handy "Personal Data" sheet in which you can write down all your relavent information for organize and clear reference. While it gives the read a taste of what is to come with the "personal data" sheet..what good does it do there so early in the book?. It Better off as a tearout if itis going to situated right at the start or it could be within or after all the necessary information.
The first 85 pages including the intro proves the reader with a sturdy foundation. There are drawings for visual reference througout the book. "The Five Elements" chapter goes through each element in detail via the subheading: Your Season of Birth, Mental and Physical States, Occupations, Shapes and Colors, Weather, Flower, Directions in Space, and Parts of the Home. In this chapter also you learn about the cycles. There are "Excerices" after each chapter.
The next chapter "The Nine Stars" is where the reader is introduced to finding their Kua number or Birth Star. The author maintains consistancy with what has been introduced in prior pages. Each Birth Star is dealt with in detail via subheadings. His subheading approach is very helpful as it provides a clean and organized view for the reader. Also in this chapter you learn about your doorway directions and how to harmonize. The following chapter after these is for harmonizing the situation for two people.
The next parts of the book "Diagnostic Methods" involves staking out your space. The author has been up to now basically following Compass School. He is better off staying with this as it is by far the most useful, clear, and accurate method in the book. Using this method we learn about applying colors to balance areas. The other two methods are "The Eight Point Method" and "The Stick Figure Method". As a very basic beginners excercise the stick figure approach is cute and interesting since it correlates with health/the body with areas your space. I can see how that works..but thats as far as it goes.
The Eight Point is none other that a watered down Black Hat Ba-gua. Whats even worse is that the author suggests "reassigning" the eight points to take up more space if it doesn't fit your floorplan as it should. This is fraught for problems, unprofessional, and regresses. Not to mention that this "Eight Point Method" has NO HEALTH section...how great is that!?. Black Hat often puts Health as center of the trigram ..however that works. The stick figure methods also uses the eight points..not recommeded.
The remainder of the book addresses spacial and placement issues decently via several chapters. Its not heavy on the cures approach but deals with it sparingly or generally..e.g "Lighting and Mirrors". It also deals with case scenarios (which are given according throughout the book as well) with more than one person living in a space. Each persons' "Personal Data" and their doorway are taken into account. The end of the book deals with a case scenario in "Making a New Home and Alterations"..which is good for those especially in the position to do so. Also miscellaneous adjunct information is offered. In the back Appendices...are charts and visuals that basically repeat the info given earlier but in a more comprehensive; full circle way.
This is is good to have around in terms of its sturdy information and consistancy throughout the book. It doesn't seem to loose itself much..expect for the "Methods" section. Its good on how to understand and apply the elements and directions to your space. The author is more focused on the color interior design, however, he does offer other decorating guidelines in the opening chapters.
Advanced folks would already know much of what this books has to say..so its a good one for advanced beginners to the novice. It will keep them very busy for starters!.
When you need hand holding.......2004-04-13
I can't begin to tell you how many books I own or have borrowed regarding Feng Shui... I kept getting confused with each book. However - Raphael's step by step approach made it really simple and basic. I have donated all the other books but refuse to let my friends borrow the Step by Step one -they can buy it for themselves!
just an opinion.......2003-12-28
My first language is Spanish. Even when I can read, write and speak English, sometimes I rather to read books in Spanish to avoid to run to the dictionary when I don't have very clear an idea.
I checked out the price of this book for the edition in Spanish and it is TOO EXPENSIVE ($48.80). Comparing to the English version ($14.70). I know the author and/or the editorial house have to pay to a translator and expenses for printing and advertisement, and bla, bla, bla, but 3 times the price of the English version + another $4.70 is TOO MUCH!!! Now just wondering who sets the price on the books
My introduction to Feng Shui.......2003-11-07
Excellent book for a beginner. Very clear instructions on how to set up a room or a whole house. I recommend this book as a starter course. If you don't want to buy more than one, make it this one.
My first introduction to the concepts of Feng Shui.......2001-02-22
I don't really have a strong basis for comparison, but I believe this is a fairly good book about Feng Shui. It provides worksheets and a good deal of information specific to the reader. After reading it, I have a good idea of what I need to do to make my living space more, well, livable. It was interesting to see too that several things suggested in the book were already present in my home.
My only concerns with the book are in that it may be too simplified. One of the methods for diagnosing your space is to use a "stick figure" with the head in the doorway and the body extended across the living space. The book doesn't really make it clear if you are supposed to use a basic outline of your space or if it should include the walls present in your home. The examples help a little bit, but a lot of the diagnosing methods are up to the interpretation of the reader.
Other than that, I believe it is a good introduction to Feng Shui. It certainly piqued my curiousity and I will strive to learn more on the subject.

Great Place to Start for New Moms.......2007-07-11
As a new mom, I was overwhelmed by all the "must haves" parents are bombarded with. This book helped me cut through all that and focus on the key elements of designing my hursery. It has great tips about how to avoid chaos (at least in the nursery design!) and streamline, without ever being preachy or intimidating. A Peaceful Nursery is a wonderful guide for anyone getting ready to welcome home a baby and has become one of my favorite shower gifts.
Preparing a Nursery using Feng Shui.......2007-06-13
I bought this item for my granddaughter who is expecting her first child in about three months. She is way into Feng Shui. Her entire home follows the foundation of Feng Shui.
While I did not read the book myself, my granddaughter was very excited and pleased about receiving it. She had looked in the city where she lives and was unable to find such a book.
Based on her enthusiasm, I rate this book highly.
Great gift!.......2006-04-07
I wish I had this book when I set up my childs nursery! It is so easy to read and understand. I have given this book as a gift to many of my pregnant friends and they are really enjoying it. It is a great introduction to Feng Shui as well as a great introduction to parenthood. Getting ready for your baby is often overwhelming and this book is a wonderful resource for how to set up the room, what you will need, and how to keep it clean and healthy. This book is truly a find!
A perfect guidebook!.......2006-03-12
An excellent guidebook to creating the most important room in your house! Very comprehensive but easy to read and understand. I love the checklists which made shopping for the baby so much easier. This book was very helpful for our first baby....a must have for every new parent!

I think some people resist feng shui, thinking it too "new-age" or something. Actually so much of it seems based on common-sense, once you try it. I like that this book addresses clutter problems too, since many American homes have issues with that. V. Allain

Lots of fun with feng shui!! .......2004-08-18
As a college student, I found Feng Shui with What You have an insightful book on how to make any living space harmonious without breaking the bank. The book contained many great tips on how to create a stylish yet comforting environment using what you already own. After using the remedies found in the book to properly feng shui my apartment, it transformed into a more welcoming space. The book combines ancient feng shui methods with contemporary trends. By making simple changes to the placement of my furniture and by adding touches of specific colors, my apartment and the mood of all those in the apartment changed for the better. I would recommend Feng Shui with What You Have to anyone looking to make an improvement to not only their living space but their life in general.
Feng Shui without fear!.......2004-07-07
I have browsed other books about feng shui that have made the subject seem impossibly arcane as well as very impractical for a westerner. FENG SHUI WITH WHAT YOU HAVE is accessible and clear; it not only explains what feng shui is and how it works as a philosophy, but also how you can put it to practical work in your home. One of the beauties of the book is that it's full of advice whose implementation requires only your attention and some time--you can make many positive improvements without spending a cent. I keep going back to the book as I tackle one problem spot or another in my home. In the long term relationship between you and your space, this book is a keeper.

Really cute book!.......2006-10-03
If I were going to rate this book only on looks, I would have given it a 5 because it's so pretty. This is a very cute, short and basic little book. It has great color, great art and it's a very light read. This would be great for someone who is just getting into Feng Shui. Overall I think this is a great book if; 1) You want a nice "happy" feel-good book to inspire you 2) You want a cute, trendy coffee table book 3) You have kids or teenagers who want to learn about Feng Shui 4) You want a short book to take on a plane 5) You are apartment hunting and want a quick referance guide...However, if you are looking to give your life an overhaul or you are wanting to learn advanced Feng Shui this might NOT be the book for you. I think this is a great gift, a great coffee table book and basically a "fun" book that I'll keep in my collection.
Easy to follow/good information.......2006-04-05
I picked this book up, knowing somewhat of Feng Shui but not an expert. I had to buy it because it's easy to understand and has lots of useful information. I did not know about hanging crytals in your hallway until now. Some things I had a clue on by simply knowing what is best for my energy and environment but this book helps outline things to make you see them better than most Feng Shui books I've read.
Home Design with Feng Shui A-Z.......2006-03-22
Okay book, good info, but her other book Western Guide to Feng Shui is definitely better.
This book is very helpful.......2005-09-30
I purchased this book because I am moving soon to a new place and I want it to be perfect. This book has so much valuable information for every single room in your house, and that makes it so easy to understand . Book is great and if you are a feng shui fan this book will help you even more.
Barbarajf.......2002-02-07
This book is totally, completely, and entirely worthless. Anyone who knows enough about Feng Shui to want a book about it already knows more than is presented within. Don't waste your money.

Good Information, Boring to Read.......2000-03-09
I chose this book to read with very high expectations. Once getting about half way through it I realized it was more like a textbook than anything else. It was very dense with information and was lightened up a little with several stories, but overall it was quite long and drawn on. If you are really looking to use and apply Feng Shui in your life then this really isn't the book for you unless you have the endurance to read it about three times through. It does convince you that this way of life does improve yours, but actually improving your life it does not do. Overall, I would recomend looking more into the subject, but I don't think this is the book to do so with.
Book Description

Gorgeous........2003-02-25
I enjoyed the pictures in this book, they're like looking at physical replicas of a dream world.. the use of color and depth in the room, and the variety of houses shown were awesome. From open naturally lit and colored spaces to lofts adorned with bright Mexican artwork each is different and inspiring. The lighting in some of them is really unusual. I recommend this book. I felt it was a spiritual experience looking at the pictures!
Reevaluates good interior design.......2001-02-02
In Designing With Spirituality: The Creative Touch, Carol King surveys more than thirty residences, showing how each reflects the individual designer's spiritual viewpoint through design and how each one has reinforced and elevated its owner's spiritual perspective. King also reevaluates good interior design in terms of its profound connection to the human spirit. Designing With Spirituality is a welcome and greatly appreciated contribution to personal, professional, and community library interior design reference collections.

Dissatisfaction with "Plan Your Home with Feng Shui".......2000-06-20
Of all the books I have read on feng shui over the last four years, this is the WORST I have ever seen. The author continually tells readers to implement changes that are not sanctioned in feng shui. For example, he tells readers to use mirror tiles and design elaborate baths (pg. 160-161) even though experts (e.g., Master Lam Kam Chuen, Lillian Too) say not to. He advocates placing the microwave in the Northwest (pg. 82), which represents poor feng shui (i.e., "fire at heaven's gate"). He also continually demonstrates an improper use of mirrors (e.g., pgs. 41, 107, 130, 134). There are many other "feng shui cures" suggesed by the author which feng shui experts warn against doing because they will supposedly bring bad luck. I have read a number of basic feng shui books that I thought presented more trustworthy information than this one does.
A great place to start.......1999-08-27
If you don't want to spend 6 months or so learning Feng Shui, start with this book.
It's the fundamentals. It's the jist of Feng Shui. It takes only 2 or 3 nights to read the whole book. It allows you to see what the principles of Feng Shui are, and then loosely apply it to your home.
I have now read 4 books on this subject, and this is the only one I finished. I wish I would have found this book first.
