Virtually the best personality textbook available........2006-02-01
Funder's book is a nice example of what a psychology textbook ought to be: entertaining, witty, objective, concise, and informative.
Rather than being dry, technical, or long-winded, the book is fascinating and intelligent (and this is coming from someone who had no interest in personality psychology and used her textbooks as a quick way to fall asleep in the middle of the day).
It takes boring or vague ideas and makes them clear, simple and interesting - I even enjoyed the chapters on test development and research methods. He also sprinkles the text with anecdotes, jokes, quips and cartoons to keep it from getting dull.
It features:
+ Easy advantage/disadvantage info on the main concepts
+ Clear, understandable explanations of statistical concepts
+ Simple jargon-free definitions
+ Unique, memorable examples to demonstrate trickier concepts
+ A sense of humour mixed with a passion for being logical and scientific
From a scientific perspective, Funder is willing to carefully explain and illuminate his own biases, he details the relative advantages and disadvantages of everything, and he never oversteps his liberties as a writer.
I highly recommend it to any psychology student who wants a good read about personality. Well worth the money.
Excellent personality psyc textbook.......2005-05-17
I read this textbook as part of a course on personality psychology. It is excellent. It covers all the major topics of personality psychology very well, and gives many clear examples of the subject matter.
Probably my favorite thing about this book is that it is highly interesting and readable. I would have read it even if it weren't part of a class - it was that good. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an overview of personality. It was so good that I found myself sometimes skimming ahead and reading chapters before they were assigned. Great book.
My only problem with this book was that it was rather expensive.

I recently took a class on personality psychology and Funder's "The Personality Puzzle" was the textbook for the class. The book clearly presents concepts and theories on personality psychology, and frequently provides real-life examples. Overall, an excellent read!

This is probably one of the most interesting introductory personality books I have read. It is different than the typical book available for a course on the Psychology of Personality. The book (which I have used during the past two years in the university level Psychology of Personality course I teach) provides the student with a provocative blending of research, assessment, and theory. I highly recommend it.

My friend and I have known each other since grade school. For as long as I can remember we have read the greatest children's books and collected them as well. I get teased at work, but I do not care. The workbook builds self esteem for young girls and is a fun activity you can do with your best friend, even 20 years later, 1000 miles apart. As fun as Mad Libs, as creative as Dahl and as quirky as Sachar....Children's books such as this brings you back to that special place that you thought you could never find again. So adults, go for it! No one needs to know....I know I won't tell ;O)
Klutz has done it again.......2007-06-12
As a parent, I am so pleased with Klutz's product line. I've probably purchased 5 or 6 Klutz items over the years and my kids (2 sons & 1 daughter) have really loved each one of them.
This "It's All About Me" title was no different. It's interesting, engaging, and smart. It peaked my daughters interest and has a lot of replay value (she uses the quizzes on her friends as well). The author has made the quizzes and activities relevent to a school-age girls without being Too Darn Girly. Both my older and younger son found it interesting and fun. (My older son, although slightly embarrassed, thought the book was interesting....because it really was.)

I've avoided purchasing Prima's other strategy guides for the Sims expansions because Prima has a habit of devoting half of their guides to the base game and the rest to the expansion pack. In the guide for Nightlife however they've improved. More than half of the guide is devoted to Nightlife: new socials, new characters, new relationships, new objects..etc. There's still information on the base game which could have been left out however overall I do recommend the guide. I don't have to skip over the first half of the book to find information on the expansion pack with this guide. Well done Prima thank you!

I hoped for more information about the game in general and less images of new products or objects from the game. There were not enough tricks and tricks included to make it worth the price.
Very good guide to The Sims 2 Nightlife.......2006-02-17
This book follows the same format as the other Prima guides to the Sims. It has lots of tips about game play and good overviews of how the new elements of the expansion pack work. It includes tables of objects, community lots, and new commands so that you can look items up fairly quickly during game play.
The primary negatives are the lack of an index (also missing in the other Prima guides) and the repeated use of the same graphics from the game over and over throughout the book.
Still, if you are a Sims 2 fan and have the Nightlife expansion pack this is a very helpful book.

Enjoyable read.......2007-08-16
This is an excellent book for bridge players at all levels. It combines a history of the game, some basic instruction, interesting hands and memoirs of the authors. The Truscotts have a wealth of experiences to draw from, having been involved in bridge at the highest level for fifty years or more.
If you want a couple of quibbles, I disliked chapter 15, titled "Some Strange Situations". It contains cutesy miscellaneous material that they wanted to include, but didn't have a place for in the main narrative. Their editor should have just cut it out.
Also, they went a little overboard in their account of cheating in bridge. One piece of evidence of Italian cheating they give is a successful opening lead against 3NT (page 205). This seems like quite a stretch to call it cheating when the lead is fourth from the longest and strongest!
These nits aside, whether you like stories, hands, or instruction, you're sure to enjoy the book.

I enjoyed the read, kind of entertaining. But the paper it printed on is terrible. I don't understand, is the price of paper increases that much that the publisher uses the worst kind of paper. Really disapointed (about the paper).

Beware!.......2007-04-30
This book was great. I ordered it and several of it's kind before going on a camping trip. Kokology 2 came before 1 arrived and it was the only one that made it on the trip. I hear 1 is good as well so we look forward to it's arrival. I made the time around the campfire so profound that we were all amazed. There are a few questions that might not hit home and if you don't live by the ocean or you don't live in a city so they are hard to imagine, but all in all we had a great time and all eagerly awaited hearing my cousin read the next question. Worth the money 10 fold.
Just as funny, but not as insightful as Kokology 1..........2005-10-17
I picked up Kokology 1 in a funky bookstore on State St. in Santa Barbara, several years ago. I've used it often with friends and family. The questions are intriguing, hard to cheat (you think you have them figured out, but you never do) and, because they are short, are very easy to play rapidly. For some reason, this book always seems to go over better than The Book of Questions (though I like that one as well).
I was very excited to get Kokology 2, as I have played the first enough times to start remembering my answers when I play it with new groups of people.
Unfortunately, though these questions are also hard to cheat and riotously funny (like the first book), they are not as insightful. I don't finish the questions thinking, "Wow! I didn't realize that about myself!" Two of the questions my husband and I played were very confusing. We both tried to answer one of them in different ways and it turned out that they were looking for something totally different than either of our methods. Another question asked us to come up with the emotions of all seven dwarfs (from Snow White), which was tedious and hard to remember (though I do think it was more insightful than some of the other questions).
Overall, I think the first book was better. Still, this is worth purchasing and playing with friends. After all, the best part of either of these books is the chance to get to know others better and become closer as a result.

Wonderful conversation starter.......2001-12-26
A friend told me about this little book that had surprising insights. I was curious and just had to check it out. Everyone that I have shared it with has absolutely loved it. Each exercise is just a paragraph or a few sentences. It describes a scenario and asks you to choose an option or visualize a scene. Your responses are the key to your personality traits. I have even used this book with a group of very bored teenagers in a classroom setting, and they loved it! The discussions were insightful and often hilarious. Some of the scenarios deal with adult topics, so I would advise one to edit it according to the audience. Enjoy!

This was my 1st expansion pack that I bought to use w/Sims2 & it is a good look at what going to college is like, especially if you've never been the kind of person who never stayed on campus. This game shows all the kinds of ways for you sim to meet new people & socialize. The different places where you can do study or reasearch. This was my 1st choice when I looked at all the other expansion packs. I read what the other recommendations said & based my decision on that.

As other reviewers have noted, this guide does contain a complete reprint of the original game guide. However, having owned the original guide, there is one MAJOR difference. The University Guide has an INDEX. So if you share my frustration of constantly flipping through guides searching for a topic, this is definitely worth the money. The game is time-consuming enough without having to spend time searching through the guides. So even if you don't own the University Expansion Pack, I recommend purchasing this item if only to make the original guide easier to use and the information more accessible.

I have been playing the Sims for sometime now and decided to get a guide for it. Having read the reviews and owning all the major expansion packs I decided to go for this one mainly because of the two for one deal. I have been amazed the amount of information it has been able to give me even though I have been playing for so long. The tips on personalities and careers etc I have found useful. I have really been able to maximize the game play. In the past I have always been doubtful whether guides were worth there money or was just a gimmick. But having now got the Sims University guide I would recommend it (but only if you don't have the first one). I am now considering buying others and discovering what other treats I have been missing.

Kokology provides short, imaginary and some amusing scenerios and then asks you questions about the situation. How you describe yourself and/or parts of the scenerio provides insight into who you are and how you view life and those in it. Interesting. . . some of "games" are fun. This book would be fun relaxing with a group of close friends - especially, after imbibing a few drinks. I don't think I would "play" this with a large group, and certainly not with people I didn't know well. Some answers can get pretty "personal". I don't agree with all of the interpretations. I don't talk to camels because I'm losing out on love, but I do talk to my dog as a companion. People really do ask me what time it is in museums and art galleries, so my answer has no psychological tag as far as I am concerned. I have a physical problem with my ear that keeps me from enjoying rides, but- I have three kids. Right, and maybe not. The point is, the book is fun, but you can't take it too seriously, otherwise I'm losing my job today. The Cube, while limited more in scope than Kokology, is short, sweet, thoroughly enjoyable and funnier. I am not sure this is worth buying, but certainly enjoyable to read as long as you don't take yourself, or the answers too seriously.

A former roommate of mine kept nagging me to answer some questions from this book. No thank you was my constant response until I played just to make her stop.
I HATE these kinds of 'games', which I usually find ridiculous and boring. Responding to scenrios and reading 'what they reveal'. Blah. Or so I thought.
Kokology, while totting a serious label, was so much fun, and at times, too true (and not always something you want others to know!), that we did the whole book in a matter of days. Each scenerio was so benign and unassuming...but what they revealed was enlightening, mostly true and uproaring hilarious!
The ringer: you have to answer immediately, the first thing that pops into your head. You only get a few seconds, otherwise, it's a bust. You're not supposed to have enough time to organize something coherent or framed--by answering quickly, it's assumed you'll answer honestly (and it's true if you're willing and follow the rules). So don't play with people who aren't in the mood or take too long.
It's really fun to go back and re-read the answers you gave a few months later and to read other people's responses (of course, ask for permission and omit names unless it's ok with that person). I was laughing for hours on end.
I wouldn't try this on people you don't know that well. Because, frankly, it got a bit awkward, especially if it hit too close to home for some participants. Or have a few drinks then play. Rather, it was more fun to play with people you really know because you think you know what they'll say but realize they're is always more to discover.
The only downside is that it can give negative reads, espeically if people are trying to get a certain 'right' response (which really isn't possible, but people try...). It is easy to lie (knowingly or not) and/or get weird pscyho-babble. People have gotten very upset and even angry by one analysis or the other, so word of caution.

This is such a cool method, whether you do it on your self, with a friend, or with a group. It's psychology game designed to tell you a lot about yourself or the other person. And it's a lot of fun. You basically read a short story, and then answer some simple questions, like what the symbolism in the story means to you, what order you would do the tasks in, what colours you see the things as, who the voices you hear are, etc. Then, you read what your answers represent about yourself. The accuracy is simply amazing, this is obviously very well researched.

This book is a well balanced text for all career searchers. It is filled with solid information, great exercises, humor, practical steps, and hope. I use it as a primary text for the Career Exploration, [Community College] class that I teach. It is also used at other institutions.
The text is currently in revision which will make it a 5 Star Text. I would recommend you purchase the new 7th edition, to be released this summer.

I loved that book. It is kind of hard. betty is a nut though i think she needs to review her work. Some of the work is no longer correct. Life has changed alittle since this book was written, at least in my expericence.
The most valuable career-development tool around!.......1998-07-24
I had taken a number of career definition tests in my career as an employment counselor (trying to figure out what was my true calling and how I could earn more money). Then I did the work in Michelozzi's book and came up with the scoring that indicated I would be good at counseling/social work (which I was already doing) or contract negotiations. I didn't even know what a contract negotiator was!
I discussed this outcome with my friend who worked at a large corporation. She introduced me to the head of their contracts department. I interviewed him and his staff about the work they were doing. They happened to have a trainee position open (which paid more than what I was getting as a counselor). Now, eighteen years later, I can truly say that Betty Michelozzi's book, Coming Alive from Nine to Five, is the one book which has completely turned my life around. I have loved almost every day of my changed career and I am far better paid at this work than I would e! ver have been as a counselor.
I recommend this book to all of my acquaintances who suspect it is time to change careers--and I recommend it to you. Thank you, Betty, for this truly wonderful opus!

Very well done. We use this text in our Career Planning Psychology class at Tarrant County Junior College, S.C., Ft. Worth, Texas, in the Women In New Roles Program. The class is blended and integrated with Human Relations Psychology. It is a college credit program (WINR) for women in transition of returning to school. It blends beautifully with our Human Relations Psychology text...
Very helpful on focusing a career search........1998-06-06
Betty did a great job with this book. I read one of her first additions and she helped me find my focus which ultimately led me to my career. Anyone who is unsure of where they want to go with their career should pick up Betty's book.
