Book Description
Did you ever walk through a wall? Drink a glass of blocks? Have you ever played with a lemonade doll, or put on milk for socks? This latest addition to the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science series introduces the youngest readers to an important science concept: the differences between solids, liquids, and gases. Any child who wants to know why he can't walk through a wall will enjoy Kathleen Zoehfeld's simple text and Paul Meisel's playful illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Cute, funny and scientifically sound........2007-10-02
Young children will be entertained and educated by What's the World Made of?, finding out about the three states of matter. With lots of funny, silly illustrations and some scientific observations of everyday stuff, this slim volume will stimulate readers to learn more about the suject and become increasingly aware of the world around them.
Excellent.
Great book!.......2007-02-17
Ordered this for my son's 6th birthday and he really enjoyed it! It's great at explaining it at a "kid level" and he giggled througout the book!
Science Made Fun & Easy.......2006-07-04
I have a 6-yr old boy and a 7-yr old girl. It's very rare to find anything that they agree on but with What Is the World Made Of? I was able to find a book that both of them would enjoy and learn from at the same time. The easy-to-follow language made it easy for them both to follow along. The fun pictures and odd bits of humor kept them interested and wanting to know more. A fantastic find & one I hope to be able to use for quite some time.
Great for Teachers!!!.......2005-10-24
This book is an excellent way to introduce solids, liquids, and gases. I used it with a 3rd grade class and it was perfect!
wonderful science/literature connection.......1999-07-12
this is an excellent literature connection for young children studying the concept of matter. it works well with the foss science module, "solids and liquids" for students in grades one and two.

Book Description
Following the overwhelming success of Material World, European material experts MatériO have compiled and described innovative materials for architecture and design in the sequel: Material World 2. Once again architects, interior architects and designers can look up the ideal manufacturer, and gain inspiration for their building exteriors, interiors, and innovative products.
Material World 2 is as comprehensive as the first volume: here architects and designers will find detailed product information, addresses, and contact details of manufacturers for every material featured. In addition, each material entry is accompanied by case studies, which show the material in specific applications.
Customer Reviews:
Superficial at Best.......2007-04-20
Although this book covers a wide range of materials, the descriptions of the materials are superficial and elementary at best.
The tightly cropped photography obfuscates rather than illuminates, leaving you to decipher what exactly the material may look like.
There aren't any examples of potential applications which would be fine if the writing would create any room for the imagination.
This book is expensive and falls flat in promise considering its price. There are better resources out there to add to your library. It's too bad because I love FRAME magazine...

Book Description
Children's Literature: An Invitation to the World is written and organized in a manner that engages the readers and that will instill confidence in teachers when selecting and using literature in their teaching. Readers are asked to take a world view of literature-what it is; how to recognize one's own; how to recognize an author's-and encouraged to see children's literature through a lens that includes people not like themselves. The book tackles tough issues such as gender and racial bias and how they can be insidiously promoted in literature. No other book on the market engages readers more than this one. Rather than just presenting topics, the book asks "What can we learn from them?" In addition, the first-person narrative involves readers in the discussion, rather than simply presenting content to them. Elementary and middle school teachers, curriculum developers and anyone interested in children's literature.

Ancient Building Technology: Historical Background (Technology and Change in History)
ASIN: 9004140077
Release Date: 2005-05-15 |
Product Description
The following résumé study deals with building material, which together with construction and structures, forms one of the three aspects of building, or equally one of the three factors which constitute the nature of a building. Unlike existing manuals on ancient building, this offers an analytic presentation and the subject matter extends across all ages and regions. The treatment of materials is set out according to a paradigm of nature, manufacture and use, so as to facilitate direct comparison between different modes of the one material, as also between different materials and between different building traditions. This second part is published in two volumes, the first containing texts, the second more than 300 illustrations.
Readership: Academic libraries, students and scholars of art and archaeology in the Ancient World.

Explore planet Earth--while having tons of fun! More than 50 cool projects, along with illustrations and sidebars for parents, will take youngsters on a trip from their very own rooms to the wide world beyond. Go on a treasure hunt throughout the house and see where your favorite things came from (and try not to be jealous of the places they've been). Trace your family tree as far back as you can to find out everyone's nationalities--and then "publish" your results on a batik banner. Carry on an ancient tradition by making a classic clay bowl. Rat-a-tat-tat: Can you hear the rhythm? Sure you can, because drums are the universal sound of music. Make one out of cardboard and bang a beat. Treat your taste buds to Chinese Five-Spice Popcorn, French Pain au Chocolat (that's chocolate bread to you!), Nigerian Fruit Salad, and German Pretzels. Take a citizenship quiz, watch your world manners, and discover how people from other lands hear animal sounds. For parents there are informative sidebars, with fun facts and activities that will help you answer all those questions the kids are sure to ask.and you might not know the answers to. While children are enjoying themselves, they'll learn firsthand how the things they do can make a real difference to our planet!
Customer Reviews:
magnificent.......2003-08-24
This is a fantastic step by step approach to learning through INTELLIGENT craft activities. No more growing been shoots, like we've all done 100 times before. This book is full of thought provoking, challenging, unusual craft ideas about the world. It is aimed at late primary to early high school aged kids, but I enjoyed the activities as much as my kids did. We have used almost all of the activities in this book, from making our own mud bricks to the creating a dream travel box. The lay out is fantastic with lots of photo's. I want more books like this please.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent World History Primer.......2007-09-21
There is no doubt that this series is well written. My son read each of the four books in the span of less than a week. They really piqued his interest. These books will let you know what really turns on your child, but you'll need to go on for further, more in-depth review.
Can't recommend this series enough for the pre-teen set!
Great Homeschool Material for Classical Learning.......2007-09-12
This is a great history curriculm for homeschoolers doing classical education or not. The material is listed very well and very user freindly for the facilitator. Highly recommended.
History for children.......2007-09-04
Was an excellent review. It is designed for parents to read with their children. It provides a good overview of major events in history as well as other information that makes history fun for children, such as recounting folk tales. However, it is a watered-down version of history...it does not go into details about anything in particular so if you are looking for something in depth about something specific, then you need an additional source.

Breaking Away from the Textbook Vol. II.......2006-02-23
This is a decent book for world history teachers. It is a bit small for the price and several of the activities are repeated over and over again. I will be able to use it with my classes, but not as much as I had hoped to.
