Book Description
In their substantially revised Third Edition, McShane and Von Glinow continue the trailblazing innovations that made previous editions of Organizational Behavior recognized and adopted by the new generation of organizational behavior (OB) instructors. Acclaimed for its readability and presentation of current knowledge, this textbook's philosophy is that OB knowledge is for everyone, not just traditional managers. The new reality is that everyone -- sales representatives, production employees, physicians -- needs OB knowledge to successfully work in and around organizations. Organizational Behavior, 3rd Edition, is unparalleled in its ability to engage students by bringing cutting edge OB concepts closer to reality through the 'theory-practice link' approach. McShane and Von Glinow help readers connect OB theories to emerging workplace realities through hundreds of fascinating real-life stories from across the United States and around the world. McShane/Von Glinow's Organizational Behavior 3rd Edition also continues to be the source of the hottest topics, such as: workaholism, virtual teams, corporate social responsibility, Schwartz's values model, innate drives theory, workplace emotions, executive coaching, guanxi, appreciative inquiry, social identity theory, workplace bullying, workplace justice, and much, much, more.
Customer Reviews:
Great for tech managers.......2007-07-18
When teaching MBAs and executives, I generally do not use textbooks. But, faced with distance-learning students, I felt a solid text was a must. This an excellent guide into organizational behavior (OB) issues, especially for practicing managers who have technical degrees and no background in OB. McShane and Von Glinow have covered the field comprehensively, in a way that is engaging (even for managers) and gives more than a nod to multinational challenges. When I searched for global OB textbooks, this was by far the best comprehensive book - using it in the classroom, it has not disappointed in any way.
Excellent Text.......2007-02-10
A thorough textbook covering breadth and depth of organizational behavior. Solid research methodology, pertinent real-world application examples, interesting, applicable case studies, excellent student materials.
A new edition is due within the next year.
No Chapter on Offshoring..........2003-12-22
To be fair, though, the book does have chapters on office politics.
In this book, Wen Ho Lee is innocent, and teams are the way to do things. This is a textbook for the masses who would be employees and not necessarily for persons who would be managers. It's already obsolete from the standpoints of absence-of-sense-in-corporate-governance and from the offshoring-all-the-jobs-not-nailed-down. Ingenuity is given short shrift and any idea-incubation process is turned into a team exercise (giving Edison as an example of teamwork - let's ask Tesla what HE thought). Missing: any chapter on having some semblance of cerebral cortex with regard to example-setting. Any such chapter could star object-lesson Jack Welch and the apparent gauge he must've been smoking to marry a corporate lawyer and then cheat on her (speaking volumes to his management tactics - which took no additional conscience - hollowing out the company, running up the stock price and then getting out before it imploded - however, with plenty to spend on alimony).
By the end of the course, either you'll be a good Stepford worker or you'll be a master at DiversitySpeak and will have the management job of your dreams. IN BANGALORE.
One star for the pictures, one star for the attractive cover. (Unfortunately, the tincture of ipecac was missing in my shrink-wrapped copy)

Book Description
Kreitner and Kinicki's Organizational Behavior, 6th Edition, continues its tradition of being up-to-date, relevant and user-driven. Kreitner and Kinicki's approach to organizational behavior is based on the authors' belief that reading a comprehensive textbook is hard work, but that the process should be interesting (and sometimes fun). Thus, they consistently attempt to find a way to make complex ideas understandable through explanations, contemporary examples, and/or learning exercises.
The cover again depicts the well known visual brand of Wolves. This remains a central theme because Kreitner and Kinicki see wolves as an instructive and inspiring metaphor for modern Organizational Behavior. Wolves are dedicated team players, great communicators, and adaptable. These are key success attributes in today's workplace.

Organizational Behavior.......2006-02-25
This text book does an adequate job of looking at the topic of Organizational Behavior. For someone that has been in business for several years, there is not a lot of new information, good review and some common sense stuff.
Must read book.......2005-07-29
For me this book had a great value. I used it on a college course after having faced the experience of being working on an IT company for 8 months. Actually I would say this book doesn't say anything anyone could not come up with; but I think that's as phylosofy is, common things we are used to, but that hardly we note to be able to do something about. I think this book is being very useful for me even after almost 3 years of be working, I think it helps you understand most of those frustrating situations we have to face daily on a company, allowing us to feel better on our work enviroment, be better partners on work, and make our work a little more productive. Definitly I recommend this book.
Common sense in a bound volume.......2000-10-19
This book discusses a topic that is a grab bag of different disciplines and has nice illustrations but i dont know if it is worth close to $100. Anyone who has significant work history intuitively knows a bulk of the material in this book. The book could be condensed to include the hard data and scientific findings and leave out much of the intuitively obvious commentary. This book is no worse than scores of similar textbooks on 'soft'topics but with the way prices are going many students are captive buyers, forced to buy textbooks at the teacher's request for perhaps questions used in the book for grading purposes while the general info can readily be found in college libraries.
Scholar's choice.......1999-09-20
The book may be a good choice for a scholar of OB. If you are a graduate student like I am, you may find it difficult to follow and overloaded with scientific terms. To my mind, the simpler the better, which this book is not.

Book Description
Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, by Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart and Wright is specifically written to provide a brief introduction to human resource management. While it doesn't cover the depths of human resource management theory, the book is rich with examples and engages students through application.
This first edition takes on a different approach than the hardback text by the same team. Instead of a higher level of theory that's geared towards the HRM professional, this book focuses on the uses of human resources for the general population. Issues such as strategy are reduced to give a greater focus on how human resources is used in the every day work environment.
Much like this author team's first project, Fundamentals of Human Resource Management provides instructors with a robust ancillary package. A comprehensive instructor's manual, test bank, PowerPoint presentation and a complete Online Learning Center make course preparation easy.

Book Description
Organizational Behavior: Human Behavior at Work, 11e, was originally created 45 years ago by Keith Davis. This solid research-based and referenced text is known for its very readable style and innovative pedagogy. While minimizing technical jargon, Newstrom and Davis carefully blend theory with practice so that its basic theories come to life in a realistic context. As in previous editions, this edition will be filled with practical, applied advice.

Critique of Organizational Behavior by Mr. John W. Newstrom.......1999-12-01
I like the book because it is complete and easy to understand. It gives a lot of insights on how one's behavior is manifested. The structured presentations are accompanied by real life experiences. It is an easy reference guide even for a novice in organizational set-up. The only part I would like to suggest is that the authors should show an answer chapter for the quentions given in the end of the chapters especially in the case studies. I find it very interesting to know how the authors would solve the organizational problems.

Human Resource Management: Gaining a Competitive Advantage with OLC card
ASIN: 0072555459 |
Book Description
Human Resource Management: Gaining A Competitive Advantage by Noe/Hollenbeck/Gerhart/Wright is back with a new and improved 4th edition. In this new economy, effective human resource management is all the more necessary to gain true competitive advantage in the marketplace, as competitors strive to win the war for talent. Four challenges companies face are the global challenge, the challenge of meeting stakeholder needs, the high performance work practices challenge, and the challenge of competing in the new economy. The authors bring these challenges to life by highlighting real-world examples pertaining to these 4 issues and relating it to the concepts within the chapter. This best-selling McGraw-Hill Human Resource Management title provides students with the technical background needed to be a knowledgeable consumer of human resource (HR) products and services, to manage HR effectively, or to be a successful HR professional. While clearly strategic in nature, the text also emphasizes how managers can more effectively acquire, develop, compensate, and manage the internal and external environment that relates to the management of human resources.
Customer Reviews:
Good textbook for an introductory class.......2005-07-02
I got this book for an introductory Human Resource Management class I had to take at my university. No complaints with the book. I didnt read it all, but most of what I read was well written.
Complete and well written Human Resource Management Resource.......2003-03-06
I was required to use this text book in my Human Resource Management class for my MBA requirements. I do not have an HR background so a lot of the information presented in this book is new to me. The authors do a great job of presenting the material in an easy to understand manner. There are a lot of real life examples and case studies that are interesting to read and help to put the concepts in to perspective.
This book will be a great reference in my professional life. It has employment laws, recruitment strategies, training and placement strategies to name a few. This is a must read for any HR professional and it really brings to focus the need for a stronger HR presence in companies to help them stay competitive.
Great book.......2002-12-30
I used this book to study for the Excelsior College exam in Human Resources Management and I got an A. It was very well written and easy to follow.
A textbook for advanced students.......2001-02-08
This is a textbook for advanced students of Human Resource Management, but even old hands in this field can gain a new insight on different topics which are very often neglected such as career development or separation and retention. Beside the discussion on different subjects the editors are bringing in comprehensive bibliography as well as discussion questions and a modern approach by using the web for additional exercises.

Book Description
This book combines management and organizational behavior. It is intended for students to learn how to be effective performers within an organizatoin, both individually and on teams. Because organizational behavior skills are students' dominant need under this assumption, about two-thirds of the book's content is anchored in traditional and emergent OB subjects, while one-third focuses on issues and practices that every manager needs to know.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth it at half the price........2000-05-30
This book is outrageously overpriced.
The major problem is that the authors drone on and on in each chapter about the same stuff. Most of the chapters would have been sufficient at half of their 30 page length. After about 15 pages and the third repetition of stuff that's already been explained, my brain started to wander. I'd have to go back and force myself to pay attention to what was being said.
Another major problem is the utter lack of editing performed. The sentence structure throughout the book is terrible. The syntax and choice of words is confusing. I'd have to re-read certain sentences several times before I could understand what the authors were trying to say. The English in general is also bad. Over and over, there were sentences that started with "But...". Then there were times when verbs were used as nouns, which is acceptable, but, because of the terrible sentence structure, it looked like they were being used as verbs. This made it almost impossible to read.
The only reason this book didn't get one star was the fact that some of the information was actually useful. The majority of the book, however, was just droll, boring repetition of stuff I didn't need to know in order to grasp the concepts. It also needed to have more concrete examples of stuff. It started out doing that well, but, by chapter 6 or 7, it just became too abstract. There must be a better book out there on this subject.

Book Description
Effective Behavior in Organizations is a combination of text and cases with experiential exercises in the Instructor's Manual. This book seeks to provide a bridge between theory and practice by emphasizing learning at both cognitive and experiential levels. It is also unique because it covers group behavior before individual behavior. This sequencing was chosen to parallel the experience of the student within the classroom. The authors have found that early in the course students worry about finding their place within a group. Once secure in their group, students are ready to look at themselves and to explore together aspects of their personal systems.
Customer Reviews:
A systemic approach to teaching Organizational Behavior.......1999-12-09
The authors' approach to organizational behavior is exciting and challenging for me and my students. Although they cover the three levels of OB (individual, group, organization), they approach it from a systems perspective that I find integrative and interesting. Early in the book, the team of authors presents a framework for evaluating organizational behavior dilemmas in a systemic way.
The authors provide numerous cases in the back of the book and very good teaching notes in the instructor's manual to practice systemic thinking and to learn OB concepts. Unlike most texts, which begin at the individual level, the authors begin at the group level recognizing that most organizational behavior interactions take place in an organizational system. They then move to the individual level, two-person relationships, and conclude with leadership.
New teachers who are interested in using cases will find the instructor's manual supportive and nearly fail-safe. The well integrated design of the book and instructor's manual makes it easy to design your course. The IM appears to have actually been written by the book authors! There are logical places for lecture, classroom exercises, and case analysis. I highly recommend this book.

Book Description
Human Resource Management (HRM) takes a managerial orientation; and is viewed as being relevant to managers in every unit, project, or team. Managers are constantly faced with HRM issues, problems, and decision making and the text's primary goal is to show how each manager must be a human resource problem solver and diagnostician. This book pays attention to the application of HRM approaches in "real organizational" settings and situations. Realism, understanding, and critical thinking were important in the revision. Users have continuously been satisfied with the consistent writing style and level of presentation.

Book Description
Behavior in Organizations, 7/e, by Shani and Lau, is a paperback text that takes a hands-on, experiential approach to organization behavior. The majority of the exercises, role-playing simulations, and cases were developed in and for management training workshops. The cases themselves represent different industries and organizations around the globe with diverse size, product, service, and cultures. Instructors appreciate the multiple interactive teaching methods for each teaching module.
Experiential methods provide a powerful stimulus for learning, growth, and change by helping participants focus on their own behaviors and reactions as data. The text begins with structured, less personal exercises that are readily recognized as relevant to human effectiveness in organizational settings. Personal growth and self-understanding activities are introduced later in the text, after students have had enough experience to become more comfortable and ready for them.

the book isn't that great to read, especially for a organizational behavior class. it doesn't really go in depth about certain things.
I have been using the 5th ed for ten years!.......2006-04-24
I took a bachelors course on Organizational Behavior from Dr. Shani at Cal Poly in 1996. Since then, I have used the book as a resource in graduate studies and in my team and leadership development work. The experiential learning method is a fantastic method that works especially well with teams. I highly recommend this paperback. I would rate this edition higher but have yet to see the updates. If it is anything like the fifth edition, you will not be disappointed.
