Customer Reviews:
Manage Energy - great insight........2007-08-23
We need to manage our energy to perform the most important things. We often take our energy for granted and are not aware of our ebbs and flows.
We need to do the most important things when we have the most energy. We need to eat and sleep to have more energy. It originally comes from a sports performance model, but has been adapted for executives. It is also important as we grow older. Truely a new insight for me that unified a few things I ahve been learning.
Push Past Your Limit To Grow.......2007-06-04
I felt this book's main premise was a useful idea, but nothing novel. Expanding past one's limit, followed by a rest period resulting in growth whether physical or psychological. I liked the informational nature of the book, however, I didn't care much for the examples of actual people written about in it. I understand it is used to help prove the points, but it appeared to be fluff to me and I would have liked more information to drill the point home and more sources to back up the info.
Those opinions aside, it is worthwhile, to the point and contains enough information to satisfy reading it once, but I don't expect to re-read it.
Not a silly self-help book.......2007-05-17
At first look, the subtitle "Managing Energy, Not Time" smells of another 'just do this and your life will be great' self-help book. However, this book avoids most of the simplistic approaches other books take. Outlined is excellent, yet straightforward guidance on how to bring into balance a work life that is out of control or at least a bit out of whack. The simple advice given (which regretfully requires some basic self discipline - I prefer to avoid self discipline) is both helpful and if followed, effective. The book is relatively careful not to imply that applying its principles or introducing self discipline is easy. It is, however, unapologetic when suggesting that making a set of changes in how one manages one's life will make a difference. The book also lays out a very helpful distinction between one's energy and one's time - and it is a very helpful distinction - describing a truth that I had not before carefully considered. The book includes numerous case studies of actual people with which the authors have worked. I think you will be able to identify with a number of these case studies. If you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and/or lack balance in how your work life, home life, and downtime function, take a look at this book.
Disappointing.......2007-03-21
Nothing new here. Eat right, get plenty of sleep and drink your water and you too can have more energy. I have to agree with other reviewers that state that this book is poorly written. Instead of providing a method for creating your own energy plan, the authors give simple hazy case examples.
WOW! Awakened to New Way of Looking At Work.......2007-03-06
This book really helped me to discover how to manage my energy and not my time. It gave me skill sets to use for daily life processes.
I have recommended to over 50 people since reading the book and everyone has loved it. Great Book!

If only every company used these princples.......2007-01-15
I was in the process of introducing some new processes relating to dealing with our cusotmers, so I purchased this book. It is wonderful - and if you want a real treat attend the park after reading it. It will amaze you how this organization goes out of their way to EXCEED the customer's expectations. In the world today, it seems customer service is no longer a priority to some establishments.
This is a great book on customer service.......2007-01-10
I had read this book a few years ago and wanted to reread it. I realized I had given my last copy away to someone who really need it. They story is easy to follow and the lessons stay with you for a long time. If you work in customer service and really we all do, this is a great read.
Both Honest, and Dishonest, Just Like the Magic Kingdom.......2006-07-09
I can't give this book a one because it does summarize Disney's business morals well, BUT, it leaves out what is obvious, it's lack of respect for God. Disney, as this book shows, relies on pleasing the customer, not God. It's also helpful in that it does give some good business advice.
Here is a summary of the "keys" to the magic kingdom, so to speak (these are quotes):
1. competition is always who the customer compares you with
2. pay fantastic attention to detail
3. everyone walks the talk (every cast member [employee] is asked to help the guests [customers]
4. everything walks the talk [meaning all the products and scenery is to reflect Disney's care for the customer's happiness at Disney and with Disney]
5. customers are best heard through many ears [meaning through survey's and the letters they send to Disney]
6. reward, recognize, and celebrate [the employees if they do a good job, if not, lol, don't say anything (how nice)]
I have no clue where to put this since it wasn't one of the keys, but here it is:
-Always make eye contact and smile
-Exceed guest expectations and seek out guest contacts [whatever that means]
- Always give outstanding quality service
-Greet and welcome each guest
-Maintain a personal standard of quality in your work [and if it's personal it's automatically gonna be a good thing cuz...]
-go beyond the call of duty
-Demonstrate strong team initiative
-Communicate aggressively with guests and fellow cast members
-Preserve the magical guest experience [meaning?]
(And the above instructions are guidelines not rules the book says)
7. everyone makes a difference
This is a good book to read (tho not buy) to see how the how some secular business minds think and how it parallels the Bible's laws in some ways.
Seven Keys to Success.......2006-06-30
This is a fun book, easy to read, great ideas to make your business more successful and customer friendly. I would recommend it highly and it is a great tool for a staff training or retreat.
Customer Service 101: A Must Read for Your Staff.......2005-10-29
This is an excellent tool for managers. While a good manager knows the seven secrets, the presentation in this book reinforces what you know. The secrets are presented in a different format that makes you think of other ways to motivate your staff. What makes this book really stand out is it is an easy, interesting book to read. Most books of this type are presented in a boring, academic format...while this is presented through various characters...those we have in our workplaces. I would recommend this book for all managers...especially those first time managers.

Classic.......2007-03-25
Napoleon hill is the recognized expert on all things success. In this excellent book he discusses the 17 principles of personal achievement, including:
Using the Mastermind Principle
Focusing Your Attention
Learning From Defeat
Going the Extra mile
Improving Your Mental Attitude
This book is well worth reading. For more information on creating personal wealth, try "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.
Napolean Hill? Of course its good!.......2007-01-19
"Each night I burn the records of the day; At sunrise every soul is born again" WOW! That was not written by Mr Hill, but he was smart enough to add it to his book. There is so much good stuff in this book I do not know where to start. Other reviewers here have written more on the contents of the book, read theirs to get an idea.
All I can say is that if you read and understand this book, then follow what you have learned, there is no way you cannot succeed in life. This book is filled with wisdom. If you are struggling in your life or on the job and need help, the help you need is in this book. Good luck on your journey!
Among my first batch of books...greatest influence on attaining personal achievement in life!.......2006-07-21
The first batch of significant books that had the greatest influence on me in terms of attaining personal achievement includes mostly Napoleon Hill's books:
- The Law of Success;
- Think & Grow Rich;
- The Keys to Success;
- Success through a Positive Mental Attitude;
- Succeed & Grow Rich through Persuasion;
The others were from Clement Stone, Dale Carnegie, & Earl Nightingale.
That was the early 70's when I had just started work as a young engineer.
The author, Napoleon Hill, had impressed me most by his relentless dedication in spending some two to three decades of his life in pursuing & researching the success secrets of the rich & famous...with a little help from Andrew Carnegie, of course.
As matter of fact, many of the famous people he interviewed were also favourite role models of mine e.g. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, just to name a few
Till this day, I have never forgotten what he said:
"The most powerful instrument we have in our hands is the power of our mind."
I have never ceased to be fascinated by the simplicity & the potency of his ABCs of personal achievement: CONCEIVE, BELIEVE & ACHIEVE!
It is certainly enlightening to note that even Stephen Covey had drew inspiration from Napoleon Hill's work even though he never made that credit. He only admitted that the 7 Habits had its origins from "200 years of success literature in the United States." That remark itself is self explanatory.
Anthony Robbin's Mastery program as embodied in his books as well as his audio/video resources is no exception, even though he has been influenced in larger extent by NLP.
If you look at & compare the 17 principles of personal achievement in 'The Law of Success' &/or the 13 Steps to Riches in 'Think & Grow Rich', one can obviously see the uncanny resemblance of the 7 Habits & the Mastery principles...in one way or another.
At this juncture, let me outline the principal theme of each book:
The Law of Success: the original course on the fundamentals of success - all the seventeen essential principles of personal achievement;
Think & Grow Rich: The seventeen essential principles are reframed & condensed in terms of thirteen concrete steps to wealth creation (in actuality, this is a condensation of the Law of Success);
The Keys to Success: a further elaboration of the seventeen essential principles with concrete suggestions, exercises & advice;
Success Through Positive Mental Attitude: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing a positive mental attitude;
Succeed & Grow Rich Through Persuasion: joint authorship with Clement Stone, with a further emphasis on developing master salesmanship & networking;
[It is pertinent to note that Clement Stone actually built his insurance business empire with these principles.]
My most productive, personal learning experience from Napoleon Hill's work is the understanding - & application - of his success principle #1: Develop Definiteness of Purpose.
[Very surprisingly, J Y Pillay, former Chairman of Singapore Airlines, - who had been credited for building the airline to what it is today, A GREAT WAY TO FLY! - also credited his work axiom to this same success principle, but he attributed it to an ancient Hindu scripture known as Bhagavad Gita.]
I am certainly gratified to note that Napoleon Hill's work had casted so much influence on - & empowered - so many people in the world, including myself.
The Distilled Power Of Thinking And Growing Rich..........2006-04-29
Sure, this is a wonderful starter kit (yes, I do have this book...) in addition to Hill's other books like "Think and Grow Rich", "The Master Key To Riches", et al. But more than that, it is a primer that makes you hungry for the mental nourishment of his full "Law Of Success" which I have just ordered through Amazon. And why am I giving this distillation five stars? C'mon, isn't it obvious, through these *distilled* principles you get a pretty good taste of the "spirit-voice" of Napoleon Hill. And when he says in later versions of "Think and Grow Rich" - 'through these pages we have met'. You know what he means here, even though it is shortened and edited. So, I've said enough, get started, happy reading.
Captain Josh/Joshua Clayton
Truly inspirational. Builds upon "Think and Grow Rich". .......2006-02-13
There are thousands of self-help books out in the market and hundreds of self proclaimed "gurus" who have made a living by copying the wisdom in Napoleon Hill's books. As I went through some of those books I realized that there was not much in them that Hill had not already written about. I recommend quality over quantity. Instead of reading through many books, I recommend that you study the following works of Hill and internalize his wisdom:
1. The Think and Grow Rich Action Pack (1937) - I recommend the Action Pack edition,
2. Napoleon Hill's Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement - this book,
3. Your Right To Be Rich [Unabridged] - this consists of 12 hours of live lectures covering the 17 principles, that Hill conducted in Chicago in 1954.
By internalizing, I mean studying in depth - analyzing the ideas, making notes and summaries. I own more CDs by Hill, but I believe that these 3 items make the perfect study plan on the Philosophy of Personal Achievement.
This philosophy is the end product of two decades of research conducted by Napoleon Hill. His research started when Andrew Carnegie (the steel tycoon who was then the richest man on earth) gave him the assignment of organizing a Philosophy of Personal Achievement. Hill, who was a poor journalist, armed with just an introductory letter from Carnegie, set out to interview over five hundred successful people including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, John D. Rockefeller, George Eastman, William Wrigley Jr. and Charles M. Schwab. Hill then revealed the priceless wisdom of his research in the form of the thirteen steps to success (in Think and Grow Rich) and the seventeen Principles of Personal Achievement (in courses and lectures he conducted).
This particular book goes beyond the 13 steps in Think and Grow Rich. It covers the following 17 Principles of Personal Achievement (also known as the 17 Keys to Success):
1. Develop a Definiteness of Purpose
2. Establish a Mastermind Alliance
3. Assemble an Attractive Personality
4. Use Applied Faith
5. Go the Extra Mile
6. Create Personal Initiative
7. Build a Positive Mental Attitude
8. Control Your Enthusiasm
9. Enforce Self-Discipline
10. Think Accurately
11. Control Your Attention
12. Inspire Teamwork
13. Learn from Adversity and Defeat
14. Cultivate Creative Vision
15. Maintain Sound Health
16. Budget Your Time and Money
17. Use Cosmic Habitforce
The concepts taught by Napoleon Hill transformed my life. Everything he wrote about or talked about is thought provoking. He was wise, humble and funny. His philosophy is universal; he did not mix it with religion. The riches he referred to were more than money, for the Philosophy of Personal Achievement can be applied to anything in life.
Hill was well ahead of his time. "Think and Grow Rich" has a chapter dedicated to some of today's most important issues - Specialized Knowledge, Decision Making, Imagination and Organized Planning (in which he deals with Leadership). And his principles deal with Teamwork, Creative Vision, Health, etc.
I am greatly indebted to Napoleon Hill. The purpose of my writing this is to spread awareness of his work so that more people can benefit from it. This, I believe is the best way in which Hill would have liked to have been repaid.
If my review was helpful to you, I request you to select "Yes" so that the rating is improved and more readers will get to read it. Please also see the website of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, naphill dot org, which has helpful resources.

Book Description
Why do some people struggle financially while others seem destined for more prosperous lives? What if you could enjoy a more abundant lifestyle without sacrificing anything you now hold dear—your values, your health, your spirituality, your freedom, your friends and family? Take it from two authors who know firsthand: You can.
Mark Victor Hansen is coauthor of the phenomenally successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and Robert G. Allen is the author of the blockbuster paradigm-shifting bestseller Nothing Down. But it wasn’t always that way. Neither author is a stranger to failure. Both have lost everything—more than once! But, independent of each other and over time, these two men came up with principles for helping both themselves and others. They began conducting their business lives along enlightened lines, and since then their joy and their wealth have grown exponentially.
Now, with this book, Hansen and Allen have teamed up to provide you with their time-tested tenets for unlocking the secrets of creating Enlightened Wealth. The keys lie in the book’s four wealth codes:
•The Destiny Code
•The Prism Code
•The Angel Code
•The Star Code
Along the way you’ll read stories of people just like you who have discovered the extraordinary lives they were meant to live and stepped into them. You’ll learn how to turn your unknown assets into millions, create your own Enlightened Wealth Statement, unleash the power of “hundredfolding,” follow the 101-Day Plan to your first million, and use Residual Philanthropy to pave your way to even greater wealth.
And the beauty of it all is that the first tumbler to click into place is found inside of you—it’s based on doing what comes naturally. Once you determine what you love to do (and the pages ahead have dozens of tips for doing so), you enlighten your journey with the fire of your true passion.
Yes, this is going to take determination and hard work, but once you’ve cracked the Millionaire Code, all your effort will seem “right” in a way that it never did before.
Are you ready to become the next enlightened millionaire?
Learn the fastest, most natural route to prospering with integrity:
•Discover your enlightened million-dollar idea
•Turn your unknown assets into millions
•Gather an amazing team around you
•Unleash the power of “hundredfolding”
•Follow the 101-Day Plan to your first enlightened million
•Use Residual Philanthropy to pave your way to even greater wealth

Old wine , New ,,,, cover design perhaps?.......2007-09-17
For ages we are told to involve God in our plans. For ages we are told that prayers with faith "as little as a mustard seed" can work miracles in our life. For ages we have found this to be true. Do we need to spend time reading 300 plus pages to know that, or is that time better spent praying.
Need an idea to make money? This is America. Books on making money sell! You only need one key idea to promote and scores of success stories to support that key idea. Look around in your neighbourhood, you'll find plenty of success stories. They dont have to be in the billionaire or millionaire range. Just a nextdoor guy doing well, should do. Of course, you need to be in a club where authors praise each other's books. You scratch mine, I'll scratch yours. Now, you just keep on pounding that one idea with different words or phrases, over and over and over again,, page after tiring page, till (along with stories, anecdotes, etc etc) you reach an acceptable number of pages so it can be called a book, and you have your book ready. Rich Dad Poor Dad, was excellent for those who came across the idea for the first time that "a job wont get you anywhere". You see? just one idea and a book was created that sold million copies.
I give one star for this one since my title says it all, but it is ok for those who are already working on a personal business project, to keep them motivated. But then, Norman Vincent Peale, Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill and there are many more, do the job better. The key is to have a project. No book will give you that. I'd rather work along those lines and keep my faith in prayers. I dont really expect much out of this book.
Cracking the Millionaire Code: Your Key to Enlightened Wealth.......2007-05-15
I would not endorse this book
Money-making code breaking for future millionaires.......2007-01-19
Packed with meaningful anecdotes, clever little games and codes to crack, this book looks at wealth creation from a new perspective. As Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen concede, this is hardly your typical "get-rich quick" book, despite its businesslike title. With its focus on "enlightened" enterprise, destiny, "angels," inner circles, prisms and the guidance of a "Higher Power," this book is not for everyone. It is hampered by New Age slang and excess, invented buzz words and acronyms. However, for those looking for an alternative to the typical business text, it is as much a sincere ethereal self-help book as a means to wealth. It focuses on wealth creation for the sake of affording philanthropy and finding purpose. We recommend this to people with a spiritual bent who seek both meaning and millions.
More Fluff Courtesy of Bob Allen and Friend.......2006-12-30
About twenty-five years ago Robert G. Allen was making a name for himself as a real estate guru. His Nothing Down title was on the bestseller list and lots of people were hoping to make money in real estate with his techniques. While I was skeptical of his no money down concept, I never took him for a charlatan. He seemed pretty sincere about his concepts and his desire to help people. Well, things certainly have changed. His last four titles, starting with Multiple Streams of Income, are little more than advertising for his website and products. I'd like to think better of Robert Allen, but really, how can I after the garbage he's churned out? Serendestiny? C'mon, Bob. Tell me that was Mark Victor Hansen's idea, not yours. In all fairness, who are the people making these guys richer? It's us. We're all looking for the magic pill that's going to make us wealthy without having to struggle. These guys sure make it look easy, and, honestly, isn't that what we're looking for? Someone to reassure us that everything is going to be alright. "Just follow these five simple steps and you'll be raking in the dough in no time, just like Joe Success on page 153 did. Yep, he followed the program to the letter, and look what happened to him." We're all looking for the quick fix and these guys are all too happy to offer it to us. Shame on us for believing in this drivel.
Complete Waste of Time and Money.......2006-12-01
This book is a joke. TONS OF FLUFF! They go on and on and on about theories and stories of others who made money. The only substance it has, which is very little, is nothing new. In the first chapter of the book they tell you to go out and talk to friends and family to get them on your "team". They say to talk to 100 people if need be, and oh yeah, TELL THEM ALL TO BUY THE BOOK. If you want to learn about obtaining wealth, buy a business book. It's obvious these guys are just out to make money and waste people's time. Truly sad.

Customer Reviews:
Solid, Fundamental Advice to Grow Your Business.......2007-09-08
I've read a number of Jeff Fox's books, and they've all been worthwhile reading. However, as someone focused primarily on bringing in new business on a regular basis (I am a 20-year veteran of the Financial Services industry), I can attest to the fact that this is Fox's best volume thus far.
"Secrets of Great Rainmakers," like Fox's other books, is written in an easy-to-read style with short chapters that get straight to the point - fast. There's no excess drivel used as filler. My copy is now highlited to the max, and I'll refer back to it with regularity.
Even after 20 years in a sales-related career, I'm smart enough to know that I certainly do not know it all; I'm constantly learning. This book is a welcome addition to that learning process. Very, very highly recommended.
Great Reading.......2007-08-23
This is the second Jefferey J Fox book I've read, and it's as a good as the first. Great real-world examples. Easy to read. I highly recommend everyone read it.
Another good rainmaker book!.......2007-05-12
I love all of the Rainmaker books by Fox. Easy to read, not boring, bottom line and to the point. This one repeats alot of what is in "How to be a Rainmaker", which I found to be better than this book. If you only buy one, but "How to be a Rainmaker". You won't need this one if you do.
Crazy like a fox.......2006-08-17
Mr. Fox's books are straight to the point. He doesn't spend a lot of time trying to help you decide if you want to be a Rainmaker, he just tells you how to do it. By learning to use killer questions and dollarize you can get what you want. I am not in sales directly, but have applied the techniques to move on in my career.
Useful stuff, much of what you won't find elsewhere!.......2006-06-10
HOW TO BECOME A RAINMAKER by Jeffrey J. Fox is one of my
all-time favorite books on selling . . . if you're in that field or know
somebody who is, do that person a big favor and get him or her a
copy . . . they'll be forever grateful.
I recently heard the follow-up, SECRETS OF GREAT
RAINMAKERS--written and read by Fox . . . for this latest effort,
he conducted over 50 interviews with industry leaders from a
variety of field . . . .he then shares what he learned in a series
of short chapters that all contain very powerful messages.
The amazing thing about Fox is that he takes what can be
a difficult task and makes it relatively simple, provided that
you listen to his advice . . . what makes it so interesting is
that much of what he shares can't be found elsewhere.
For example, he tells you not to knock your competition . . . for
if you do, you're telling your customer that he or she is stupid for
considering somebody else.
He also presents "killer questions" that can be helpful in selling
anything, such as:
* In addition to yourself, who is responsible for making this decision
happen in your country? And what might be their concerns about
going ahead?
* [when a customer has a question] Why do you ask? And how
important is it to you?
There were many other memorable tidbits, including:
* In a sales call, the customer should do 80% of the talking.
* Play Rolodex Roulette at least once a month. Give it a spin,
pick some names, call some of them.
* Always use an intriguing postscript.
* The phone call never sells anything.
* Only after you get the order can you ask a non-business question.
* 90% of salespeople don't ask for the order.
* Always ask for something on a visit; e.g., a tour of the facility. If you're
the one being asked to take a tour, that's a buy signal.
* Take handwritten notes on every call. Then summarize your notes in
a follow-up letter to the customer.
* Don't mail your proposal. A good proposal, well written, has a 15-18%
winning percentage. Good proposals, when presented in person, have
a 55-65% winning percentage.
* People who ask for the sale in person have four times the chance of
getting it than those who don't.
And my personal favorite:
* In the future, some power point presenter will be arrested for boring
the customer to death!

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-06-21
I have bought and read the book. And I can say that this book provides great insights to the reader. I recommend it to everybody who wants to gen involved in international business.
A Good Starting Point.......2007-04-20
I ordered this book knowing absolutely nothing about import/export. This book is great for novices. It does a fine job explaining the many facets of import and export. However, before attempting to start your own import/export business, you will need to do a lot more research. This book attempts to cover a great deal of info in just a few pages. Nelson's book is a great place to start your quest for import/export knowledge.
eeehhh!.......2006-12-22
It has alot of info and facts. But doesn't help you make any decisions. Read: "The Maui CEO" by John Tennant instead.
Good starter book.......2006-11-10
This is a very good starter book for anyone who is thinking about international trade.
Save your money and time.......2006-10-01
This book is a bit dated. There is no use for this book if you want to get into this business on a serious basis. Poor style, poor grammar and very poor content. The author devoted 75 pages on trade agreements such as NAFTA and the EU. You don't need to know the technical details of these agreements. You need to sell, sell and sell. This book is very bad. If you want a primer on the ins and outs buy get Exporting, Importing and Beyond. After that, buy Building an Import/Export Business by Weiss (this book gives you techniques that are absolutely useless but it is important to know this...so you don't do what he advises). You can round it off by buying How Small Business Trades Worldwide by John Wiley Spiers who gives a no-nonesense approach. Back to this book. Carl Nelson really needs to update this book to include E-bay and recommend Frontpage or Dreamweaver to create a Website instead of saying it is "easy" to use HTML. In this business, a website isn't necessary but it may be a good idea to have one if you want to market directly to consumers. Also, consider getting into this business by starting off as a Manufacturers representative (consider William H. Krause book on How to Get Started as a Manufacturer Representative) This book was plain AWFUL.

Book Description
A Powerful Road Map for Surpassing Everyone’s Expectations
Break through your self-imposed limitations by learning how your own brain can be your biggest obstacle—or your greatest ally.
You’d expect your brain to be an always-reliable ally in your quest for a successful, satisfying life, but surprisingly the opposite is usually true. That’s because your brain is pretty much the same model your ancestors were using thousands of years ago when mere survival was everyone’s primary goal. It tells you now what it told them then: Play it safe. Avoid risk. Evade confrontation. Don’t venture outside the territory you already know. And never break the habits that have gotten you this far.
Coming at just the right time to help you deal with the growing demands of our pressure-packed, fast-changing world, Robert Cooper’s Get Out of Your Own Way helps you understand what’s going on in that head of yours. Once you know what really drives you, you can switch off the counterproductive parts of your brain, engage the helpful parts, and set out on the path to accomplishing what everyone else thinks you can’t. Based on more than two decades of worldwide research, Get Out of Your Own Way shows you the five keys for making the choices that let you engage and triumph over the realities of today’s world:
• Direction, not motion
• Focus, not time
• Capacity, not conformity
• Energy, not effort
• Impact, not intentions
Filled with wonderful stories—about everything from the note written by one of the author’s ancestors upon leaving Dublin for America in 1829 (“On the horizon is where hope lives . . . I am going there”) to the unlikely exploits of the world record–setting Jamaican bobsled team—this groundbreaking book confirms that the next frontier is not only ahead of you, it’s inside of you . . . and what everyone else thinks is impossible isn’t.

Customer Reviews:
Good food for thought. Enjoyable and inspirational!.......2007-08-27
This is a relatively long self help book with 295 content pages packed in 5 keys/parts (direction, focus, capacity, energy and impact) and 20 chapters. Despite its length, I really find its many ideas, quotations and stories interesting and helpful. A highly enjoyable and inspirational read. In short, recommended!
Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference:-
To climb more, carry less.
To hear more, talk less.
To succeed more, assume less.
To invent more, resist less.
To excel more, compete less. Pg 80
The brain is lightning quick at jumping to assumptions, and is often wrong. So the ability to observe your own natural reactions and rise above them - to follow your own natural flow of focus and then guide it in new ways - is one of the key things that separates the best from all the rest in any field or endeavor. Pg 105
And proud their ancient-wired brains, much like ours today, must have been - never realizing that the harder they (Easter Islanders hauling on ropes to drag hundred ton statues out of quarries and then all across the island on sledges made from logs. As the trees disappeared, so did the rest of the island's vegetation and animal life, until there was nothing left to support the inhabitants) tried, the longer they worked, the more numbly they sacrificed, the faster the future for themselves and their children was vanishing. Pg 225
Repeats the same mantra with annecdotal evidence.......2007-07-08
The title should have been "get this book out of your way". Nothing useful here repeats the same "advise" to fill the book. Nothing useful.
Informal as well as Academic........2007-05-28
A slight extension of "The other 90%" with its own personality. Throughout the book Dr. Cooper reveals subtle examples of how one can get in their own way as well as bold strategies on how to: as the title of the book reads. Dr. Cooper's quoting of Richard Gregory's definition of perception is clear-cut! He states that perception is "a dynamic searching for the best interpretation of the available data". "Get Out Of Your Own Way" is energizing and empowering. Some of the author's life examples are inspiring. The section on "COMPRESS THE TIMELINE" is mind jolting and fascinating and very academic in tone! "Get Out Of Your Own Way" is very humorous as well as heart warming. Two for one deal! In my opinion - two books inside of one.
This book will give you a better understanding on getting the balance right on how to separate thoughts of the mind and increase the awareness in you of the existence of intuitive feelings of the heart, your gut, and surprisingly your spine.
As you approach the second half of the book - "Key 3" onwards, Cooper really cranks it up several notches. So prepare yourself to roll up your mental sleeves even more!
Dr. Cooper's work can lead you to many breakthroughs. This book is very influential. If you lack initiative, it will activate the self-starter in you. Dr. Cooper's pursuit of excellence is very contagious in this book. I strongly recommend this book for those who seek......Change.
Long-range Vision.......2007-02-05
This is cutting edge cognitive research, presented in an easily assimilable form, to allow you to reach your full potential. Cooper espouses the advantages of spending a mere 15 minutes per day building your 5-10 year future, and thus, giving yourself the perspective to glide easily through your quotidian problems. Reading this book, and applying it, will yield demonstrable results, even if you only pick up on a few of Cooper's many recommendations. For my money, this is an improvement on "The Other 90%"
His elucidation of the brain's (the primitive brain's) tendency to flee the unknown, or challenge, was most helpful: I am now in University, and complements some of the ideas in "The Kaizen Way," Cooper's book being more substantive, however. You will not be disappointed.
Your Brain: With you or against you?.......2006-12-03
The real contribution here is in viewing the brain's functioning in a balanced way. Cooper goes beyond the normal self-help cheerleading, the kind that suggests that all we need to do is "tap in" to our infinite cerebral potential. He helps us to understand that primitive tendencies, many of which have been evolutionarily adaptive, are now obstacles to achievement. The brain is in some ways so happy to have arrived at Point A that it is too comfortable to risk the journey to Point B. This more sophisticated understanding of mental functioning, informed by new brain mapping/scanning technology, can help those who embrace the idea that NOW IS NO TIME TO STOP EVOLVING.

From One Woman to Another.......2006-02-22
As a woman in corporate America, I found this book to be provide some extremely wonderful information. It was as if the authors had interviewed me directly to come up with those traps. Since completing the book, I have changed the way I approach projects, and have found the steps in the book to be extremely helpful! The format was so easy to follow, and I related to so much of the information-especially the common traps.
Her Place At The Table.......2005-04-17
I have been in the banking field for 25+ years. This book provides a framework to study the corporate culture. I found it very helpful and enjoyed the book.
Well done...a helping hand for women on the way UP!.......2005-03-16
In March 2005, I attended the Office Depot Women's Success Strategies program. Speaker Anne Mulcahy, CEO of Xerox, was asked a question about the focus on recently-resigned HP CEO Carly Fiorina. Anne said that the key to making gender a non-issue was to get more women in the boardrooms. Amen!
Also at the conference, panelist Carol Frohlinger shared solid negotiating tips with the attendees. Impressed, I bought this book. WOW! This information levels the playing field. Get out there. Decide what you want. And, GET IT in a win-win way. Thanks, Carol, Judith and Deborah for doing your part to help women get to the top floor.

Highly Recommended !.......2005-02-23
Women in leadership positions will thank authors Deborah M. Kolb, Judith Williams and Carol Frohlinger for their strategic advice. Their book, solidly based on the experiences of 100 women in leadership jobs, clearly identifies obstacles women face in gaining legitimacy as leaders. The authors explain how women executives' incorrect - and possibly unconscious - assumptions increase their troubles. The book teaches readers to make their assumptions explicit and to overcome obstacles with step-by-step deliberate solutions. For instance, the book counsels you to get as much information as you can before taking a new position, and then to really think about what you have learned. The main chapters enumerate five major ways to gain respect and credibility as a leader, but the authors also provide advice on negotiation and some relevant questions for job hunters to ask. Although it gets repetitive, the authors accompany the final outline of major points with specific recommendations you can implement. We recommend this book to women in business who want to move up, or who already have.
For the senior professional.......2005-01-22
This book is strictly for senior professionals, which is a plus for VP's, SVP's and C-level women looking for input on their level. It focuses on women already in leadership roles and is at both times inspirational and instructional. Real-life anecdotes keep it from being simply a textbook read and I really, really liked the roadmap in Appendix A which outlines "common traps" and "strategic moves."

Stellar Advice for a Celebrity Personal Assistant Job Seeker.......2005-01-22
I first heard about a job as a Celebrity Personal Assistant from some overdramatized, hyped show promising all sorts of glam and goodies. When I went to begin a more serious inquiry into it as a real career I found a lot of equally useless websites and guides that just glossed over the "perks" and didn't detail any real practical advice on this topic. Until I found Beyond the Red Carpet. This is a comprehensive book that offers a complete view of the vital role that Personal Assistants play in the world of celebrities and high profile successful people. It offers a clear list of the skills, temperments and abilities required for this job as well as sound, concrete steps that you can take to be successful in this career. At about 25 bucks you get a wealth of knowledge, know-how and insight. It covers the pitfalls, expectations and some of the frustatrations one might face as well as the upside - well balanced, clearly written and practical it's obvious that the writer knew her topic throughly - living it not just reporting or glamourizing it. Despite an incredibly tight budget, I invested the extra monies to take the actual workshop at their Atlanta headquarters and found their help invaluable. This is a professional text written by a talented, focused and knowledgeable woman and is a link to a much broader network of experience and expertise. I was frustrated and lost before attending and through the staff's help, the information from this text and meeting other dynamic individuals pursuing this challenging, but exciting career; I found the inspiration to make a new, more focused start. After getting home I rewrote my resume using their suggestions and was told that my it stood out amid over 400 who had applied for an Executive Assistant/Personal Assistant job to a local CEO. The comment by the HR person was - Yours was the first resume that made me stop what I was doing and pick up the phone to call you. I've accepted the position and am happily pursuing it as the next step to building the kind of experience that will land me a Celebrity position. Don't be fooled by the sales pitch flashy books out there. If you're serious about this as a career - get this book and look into their workshop. I found the author and her entire staff to be bright, energetic and talented business professionals with the experience and connections to make great things happen. RHExecAssistant at AOL
