Customer Reviews:
I can't get over it : A Handbook for Trauma Survivors.......2007-03-09
Wonderful book! I find it a very helpful book! I am using the book as part of my therapy with my therapist. The book explains alot to me the questions that I had about myself after being raped. I recommend the book to persons who needs to overcome trauma.
Very good book for Understanding PTSD.......2006-03-17
This is the first book I attempted to read after being diagnosed with PTSD. It helped me understand my unexplainable behavior and symtoms and helped me come to terms that I was not "crazy, as perceived, but simply having a normal reaction to an abnormal trauma. I would love to meet the author sometime. I HIGHLY recommenend this book.
Good, but not great.......2006-01-30
I liked a lot of the insight this book had to offer. I don't like the promise that the reader can diagnose themselves by answering a few questions. A person doesn't need a diagnosis to know what they are going through, and they should not be diagnosing themselves anyway- for obvious reasons.
Good book, but the POST TSD SOURCEBOOK BY GLEN SCHRALDI.......2005-08-31
IS MUCH BEETER. This book discusses what PTSD is, but not how to treat it like the (PTSD) sourcebook does.
Great text.......2005-08-23
I counsel trauma survivors every day of the week and this is an excellent text. It has depth and practical advice. On the basis of this work I have purhased another by the same author.

Get on the Ball: Develop a Strong, Lean and Toned Body with an Exercise Ball
ASIN: 0740756990 |
Book Description
People today are spending more time at work and less time being active, whether by sitting in front of a computer all day or in a car battling grueling traffic-or both! Working on the Ball solves this problem by providing an innovative, playful approach to fitness, no gym shoes or expensive club membership required.
Authors Jane Clapp and Sarah Robichaud, both fitness professionals, don't take themselves-or readers-too seriously. They offer a fun, reasonable routine that any office worker can follow from day one.
Hour by hour, the authors take readers through a full day of 'active sitting,' using a stability ball as a chair, and provide guidance for making healthy choices in the workplace.
Also included are photographs to help illustrate each exercise and plenty of encouragement, motivation, and coaching. The authors even offer tips on after-work stress management and other health subjects.
Among the book's topics are:
" evaluating your posture
" choosing a ball
" stability ball safety
" avoiding eye strain and "brain drain"
" desk setup
" healthy snacking
Working on the Ball makes a great gift or a quick pick-me-up for oneself.
Customer Reviews:
Book is humorous, but not functional........2006-12-26
Don't buy this book if you're looking for functional ball exercises. The book has many silly photos. The posses proposed are such that you're a woman would invite wrong type of attention. I found the book a bit to risqué for the office.
An exercise book that's fun and friendly--what a concept!.......2006-11-29
I was just sitting and bouncing on my inflatable ball at work and wanted to do more with it. This book is exactly what I needed, in a way that others were not.
Most exercise books really aren't conducive to exercise, because you can't read them while you're in position, the pictures aren't clear, the book is boring, etc. Working on the Ball puts those other books to shame. It's got amusing, friendly text and helpful, deliberately humorous photos. Even the book itself is handy, as it's small and hardback.
Working On The Ball.......2006-04-19
Concise, easy to read and fits the time short generation that would like to be in better shape, and now can get fit while you work. Fun and intelligent language, well laid out and a handy size pocket reference to keep you on track.
No more excuses.......2006-04-18
I think this book should be on everyones desk at the office
People are becoming increasingly busy these days and this
book helps you stay active even at work
So you no longer have any excuses to not be strong and healthy
I also like the layout of the book and the fun pictures
to demonstrate the different exercises
Bouncing through a Fit Work Day.......2006-04-17
Great book. The exercises and fitness information are topnotch. They're presented in a really fun and funny way. The book's easy to use and it's fun to dip into here and there and try something out. If you're not sitting on a ball yet, get this book and revamp your life. If you are sitting on a ball, then get the book and add some great fitness activities to your work day.

Book Description
Sitting on the Job is a lifesaver for anyone who works in an office. No longer does the sedentary worker have to suffer from tingling or aching hands, neck or back pain, headaches or fatigue that can be so debilitating. Dr. Scott W. Donkin details the many variables that must be considered so that workers who sit for many hours a day can function effectively in a supportive and healthy work environment. For instance, each work station needs to be individually adjusted to suit the particular worker's body, lighting must be appropriate to the specific task, and there shouldn't be drafts or distracting noises. Dr. Donkin discusses all the possible physical ailments and conditions that can arise from poor working conditions and then offers ways to cure or prevent them. He points out the many negative effects of stress and what can be done to alleviate it. Perhaps the most practical chapter in the book details the many things to do to help counteract the physical effects of sitting. For example, Dr. Donkin recommends taking frequent micro-breaks to counteract tension buildup and fatigue in muscles and eyes. Stretching fingers, wrists and hands and looking into the distance several times an hour can significantly reduce strain. Illustrations are used effectively throughout the book to show problems and provide practical solutions.
Customer Reviews:

Organizational Stress: A Review and Critique of Theory, Research, and Applications (Foundations for Organizational Science)
ASIN: 0761929495 |
Book Description
Questions about the causes or sources of work stress have been the subject of considerable research, as well as public fascination, for several decades. Earlier interest in this issue focused on the question of whether some jobs are simply more inherently stressful than others. Other questions that soon emerged asked whether some individuals were more prone to stress than others. The
Handbook of Work Stress focuses primarily on identifying the different sources of work stress across different contexts and individuals.
Part I focuses on work stressors that have been studied for decades (e.g., organizational-role stressors, work schedules) as well as stressors that have received less empirical and public scrutiny (e.g., industrial-relations stress, organizational politics). It also addresses stressors in the workplace that have become relevant more recently (e.g., terrorism).
Part II of the
Handbook covers issues related to gender, cultural or national origin, older and younger workers, and employment status, and asks how these characteristics might affect the experience of workplace stress.
The adverse consequences of these diverse work stressors are manifold, and questions about the possible health consequences of work stressors were one of the major historical factors prompting early interest and research on work stress. In Part III, the individual and organizational consequences of work stress are considered in separate chapters.
Key Features:
- Affords the most broad and credible perspective on the subject of work stress available
- The editors are all prominent researchers in the field of work stress, and have been instrumental in defining and developing the field from an organizational-psychological and organizational-behavior perspective
- International contributors are included, reflecting similarities and differences from around the world
- Chapter authors from the United States, Canada, England, Sweden, Japan, and Australia have been invited to participate, reflecting most of the countries in which active research on work stress is taking place
The Handbook of Work Stress is essential reading for researchers in the fields of industrial and organizational psychology, human resources, health psychology, public health, and employee assistance.
Customer Reviews:
Children and War - the Aftermath.......2000-05-16
Healing the Children of War is a well-written and researched book that gives both background and practical ideas for working with children who have been traumatized by war. It gives attention to both those who served as child combatants and who were non-combat victims. As a person who works with children in Liberia and Sierra Leone, I have gound it to be invaluable as a resource to further my understanding of the huge needs of these children. The book manages to give the needed information in clinical terms as well as in a readable manner. I would highly recommend it!
Healing children of War.......2000-04-12
I would like to commend the contributing writers of "Healing Children of war" and the editor Phyllis Kilbourne. They have put together an excellent book on this subject.
The book pointed up the fact that sadly more and more children will be victims of war. For anyone who has read or watched tv about the wars on the African continent , Bosnia and other places around the world and wonders what he or she can do, here is a book that will show some light on the subject.
The handbook is well-developed. Although there is some wording that might be a bit tricky to understand, it doesn't turn one off from reading the book.
Although it was written for Christians, anyone who cares for the state of children should read this book.
