2 out of 5 stars Helpful Business 101 advice, but not anything more........2007-10-07

I'm going against the grain here, but I didn't find this book incredibly helpful for me or my clients. I emerged from reading this book like it was a verbose marketing campaign for Gerber's consulting company. However, with so many outstanding reviews from seemingly successful or seasoned professionals, it makes me wonder: how can nearly everyone agree with pulp, formulaic non-fiction? There has to be something I'm missing. To be fair, I'm going to speed read the highlights once again (plowing through the silly Socratic dialogue vignettes of the entrepreneur manque). I hope I'm wrong and there is a lot to discern from this book (mainly because I can never get the 3 hours back in my life I spent on reading this!). But I do have a feeling I'll be wishing the E-Myth was higher-level business advice.

I think readers would, instead, benefit from Rubinfeld's "Built for Growth". Same franchise mentality, but the applications are spelled out. Yes, this author has consulting services to sell too, but not like a franchise, more like a private client model. Rubinfeld knows what he's talking about and has the exponential expansion and success of Starbucks to vouch for his expertise: what was Gerber's rainmaker again? Exactly. Rubinfeld gets it right, especially with the real estate strategies, retail space, and customer service. By the way, Gerber's second rule for his franchise model: take the personal element out of the transaction and just give the customer a low-skilled worker fortified by a briliant systems-based business model. He buttons that statement with the "ordinary people do extraordinary things" clause, but it still sounds harsh to me. I guess the truly extroaordinary people go on to build or own franchises.

This is, at best the beginning part of a working business solution. Yes, Gerber makes a valid point about the E-myth concept (read other reviews if you don't know the concept) but it's really for beginners (newbs). All his books are really just advertisements, for his E-Myth Academy consulting business in the back of all his books. There is nearly no practical information. He makes his point about the E-Myth, then masterbates it endlesly, re-making that point six ways to Sunday, add nausium and leaves you wondering, well, but what should I do? Well, little lost lamb (newb), go to E-Myth web site or call the 800 number where they have a fast talking sales crew and sign up for 2 years of 700 plus a month (I haven't checked lately) consultation/classes.

After you get the point that to make your technical skill pay/function as a business you need to have business skills/know how. You can sign up for the 700 plus per month for 2 years advertised in the back of his books. Start looking elsewhere for actual practical information. Because there are no E-myth books or tapes that have that information. You can do a lot for your business with that kind of money. I'm always shocked at how newbs starting businesses throw money around. Something to buy and a place to buy it, no matter how pretty it all is, doesn't make a successful business, In my observations, it's the major reason new businesses fail. I'm sure some of you with deep pockets or You corperate types who have never had to find the guts or earn the money to build a small business without Sugar Daddy Warbucks help will think I'm wrong. This E-Myth stuff is valid but it it's grade school lessons made to look like some kind of super-profound truth/solution. Well, it is, grade school true, now what Mr. Gerber, where's the solutions, spend, what, nearly 17,000 Sign up for what I thought I was getting when I bought the Books and tapes? What a greedy little tight wad! When are you going to write a book with substance? Hey Newbs! Trust me, yes you need real business skills, there are plenty of great business books out there, take some of that 17,000 and buy some and be careful with the rest you're going to need it.

4 out of 5 stars One of the top business books.......2007-09-29

This book gives both inspiration and practicals to make any small business a successful venture. It certainly changed the course of my business and got me to work at making my business something that can be reproduced through the processes that I create.

"And a silver belt buckle with his initials in green jade acrosss in face. ... Can you see it? Do you get the picture?" And no, he is not out of business.

For me it is a number of good ideas and a hard sales pitch. Next time less pitch more workout please.

4 out of 5 stars E-Myth.......2007-09-21

The book is good and tells you most of the pitfalls you will encounter as a small business owner who works in the business. I felt he explained the pitfalls very well, was a bit short in providing the "how to" fix the problems. At the end of the book, you are given an opportunity to hire the author (or his representative) as your business coach ... that is probably where you learn the "how to " stuff.
The book is a quick read, easy to understand and digest.
I would recommend this as a mandatory read for anyone wishing to start their own business or anyone that has started a small business within the past 10 years.

Edith Hamilton loved the ancient Western myths with a passion--and this classic compendium is her tribute. "The tales of Greek mythology do not throw any clear light upon what early mankind was like," Hamilton explains in her introduction. "They do throw an abundance of light upon what early Greeks were like--a matter, it would seem, of more importance to us, who are their descendents intellectually, artistically, and politically. Nothing we learn about them is alien to ourselves." Fans of Greek mythology will find all the great stories and characters here--Perseus, Hercules, and Odysseus--each discussed in generous detail by the voice of an impressively knowledgeable and engaging (with occasional lapses) narrator. This is also an excellent primer for middle- and high-school students who are studying ancient Greek and Roman culture and literature. --Gail Hudson

5 out of 5 stars one of the better written retellings of the Greek Myths.......2006-09-06

Edith Hamilton (now passed) has a living work of art in her stead by the name of Mythology. This congolmerate work of the world's oldest known tales is likely the most concise and accredited version worthy of the haughtiest bookshelf.

I breezed through most of the short stories and really ate up the ones of tragic love and happily ever afters, but through this version, readers can easily distinguish the story being told and enjoy the characters. Hamilton's writing it prosaic and timeless, perfect for Greek Myths. This collection is something that can even be of use to students of all ages and I can easily see myself coming back to this book a great many times for not only learning but enjoyment.

Highly recommended read, especially for the Greek in all of us!

This book, mythology by Edith Hamilton is a pretty good book for pleasure and it has pretty good information too. The only downside of this book is that it doesnt keep your intrest that well. After the introduction, most parts are exciting, but there are still a few dull parts.
This book goes through many sections of greek mythology and a bit of norse mythology at the end. At first, the book starts out with talking about the gods and goddesses and then it moves onto stories of the gods and demi gods. This is a easy to understand book that is also a lot of fun if you are looking at it from a certain point of view.

My husband and I have learned a lot from this book. We knew these things before the book, but never really thought they would influence our business. Very informative and interesting.

4 out of 5 stars Will Turn Your Head Around (like the girl in The Exorcist) .......2007-07-09

The E-Myth is essential business knowledge, and I wish I had had this wisdom 20 years ago. Gerber basically busts the old paradigm that being "good" at what you "do" - i.e., being a good "technician" - is the most important critical factor in having a successful small business. As Gerber correctly points out, you will crash and burn if you spend too much time working *in* your business and not enough time working *on* your business and seeing it as something separate from yourself.

What I found most helpful was his explanation of how having precise and thoughtfully crafted job descriptions and operational methodologies can make all the difference between making true progress and floundering on a day-to-day basis. Likewise that a mission tied to deeply held personal values, understood by *all* persons in the business - top to bottom-, is absolutely necessary. And likewise that clients (in my case) or customers want a consistent, positive experience that meets or exceeds their expectations every time they do business with you, especially if you're in a profession or a service business. Let me tell you, truer words have not been spoken. It's news you can use immediately.

Gerber reads the E-Myth (unabridged) on this CD set. His delivery is avuncular and warm, and apart from the "pie" theme (see below) didn't grate the way many author-read works do. What drove me crazy (and why this is a 4-star instead of a 5 star review) was the conceit of a running dialog between Gerber and a "client" named "Sarah" and her floundering small business called "All About Pies." The take-away from this is valuable, but cheeze lou-eeze! I kept imagining Jimmy Cagney in Public Enemy, washing the face of his whiny girlfriend with a grapefruit over breakfast, only here, I was rooting for "Sarah."

I have the book also. Trust me - go with the CDs.

4 out of 5 stars The E-Myth Revisited CD : Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to do about it.......2007-06-06

The E-Myth Revisited CD set by Michael E. Gerber was long and kind of boring. But... it has some great ideas and if you can hang in there and take the time to listen, it has many great ideas for any business.

I asked a friend of mine that is very successful in business what single book he would recommend, he said E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber. He reads a lot of book and is very successful, so I thought I would purchase the CD set to listen while I was driving.

It has very good ideas; companies need to put in place systems and processes to be the most successful. Probably the best idea that I got out of the book was, "Go to work ON you business not IN your business". This single idea is very powerful and a key to any successful business owner or sales professional's success.

Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Robert Fagles's translation is a jaw-droppingly beautiful rendering of Homer's Odyssey, the most accessible and enthralling epic of classical Greece. Fagles captures the rapid and direct language of the original Greek, while telling the story of Odysseus in lyrics that ring with a clear, energetic voice. The story itself has never seemed more dynamic, the action more compelling, nor the descriptions so brilliant in detail. It is often said that every age demands its own translation of the classics. Fagles's work is a triumph because he has not merely provided a contemporary version of Homer's classic poem, but has located the right language for the timeless character of this great tale. Fagles brings the Odyssey so near, one wonders if the Hollywood adaption can be far behind. This is a terrific book.

Book Description

If The Iliad is the world's greatest war epic, then The Odyssey is literature's grandest evocation of everyman's journey though life. Odysseus's reliance on his wit and wiliness for survival in his encounters with divine and natural forces during his ten-year voyage home to Ithaca after the Trojan War is at once a timeless human story and an individual test of moral endurance.

Translated by Robert Fagles

this is an amazing book, with something for anyone. if you are interested in studying philosophy, you'll find it here. but, you can also read a great adventure story with fables and a love story written in. in that sense, this is a great translation; if you want to read this for the sake of entertainment, Fagles is a great translator. if you want to read for philosophical discussion, however, he might not serve your purposes. the thing you have to know about Fagles is, he often inserts adjectives and the feel of the entire story changes. so, if you want fidelity to the Greek words, try Lattimore. if you want fidelity to the Greek metrical sense, try Mandelbaum or Pope. and if you want fidelity to the Greek adventure epic, Fagles is your guy.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read.......2007-09-26

I'd tried to read some of the "classic" translations in college, and though I love poetry I found that Chapman, Pope et al. were extremely difficult to wade through. I skipped around, read what I thought were the "best parts," and put it aside.

I found the prose translations to pedantic, and none caught my interest.

Fagles version enthralled me, and made me realize that I knew nothing about the story. It was far deeper, more complex, and emotionally rich than I ever suspected.

There were certainly parts that dragged - there were whole pages devoted to feasting, and some of Odysseus' longer lies grew tiring. There were also parts that soared - Calypso's unrequited love for the hero, Athena's deadly games, Nausicaa on the beach, Odysseus meeting his dead countrymen in Hades, and the slaughter in the hall are all vividly captured. I'm ready to move on to the Iliad and Aeneid now!

1 out of 5 stars If Homer were a down-home balladeer..........2007-09-20

Fagles's colloquial translation is far from faithful to Homer. It lacks any hint of the grandeur or gravitas proper to the epic, and in places borders on paraphrase. Some will argue that because most of the Odyssey is either dialogue or narrative told by one the characters, colloquial language is appropriate. However, the colloquial tone extends even to poet's (or muse's) own narration. One need look no further than the translation's first line for an example: where Homer speaks of the man who is polytropos ("of many turns"), Fagles gives us "the man of twists and turns." Moreover, it is hard to accept the colloquialism of much of the dialogue. For example, Fagles makes Nestor respond to Telemachus's request for the story of Agamemnon's murder, with: "Gladly, my boy, I'll tell you the story from first to last..." This is hardly the way one talks about the tragic and treacherous death of a former comrade in arms. Nor is Fagles's rendering of Odysseus famous narrative in Books 9-12 convincing: for example, Fagles has Lampetie bringing news to Helios of his cattle's slaughter "Quick as a flash." By contrast, Lattimore tells us she "ran swift with the message."

If Homer were a down-home balladeer, Fagles would be the translator of choice.

5 out of 5 stars People Don't Make Up Curses Like That Anymore..........2007-06-14

My freshman English class tackled The Odyssey, and we all relished it. The high-key adventure, the indomitable Odysseus, the history and culture of our adored Greek society, and the rich dialogue all kept us hooked. The curse of the Cyclops is still a monologue I fall back on, even three years later, because, I'm telling you, people nowadays just don't know how to cast curses! As a little recommendation to enhance the reader's enjoyment, read a little bit about the Trojan War before starting. For my class, we had a packet with the history of the war, beginning with the Choice of Paris and ending with the Wooden Horse. It helps with the understanding of the story and whets the appetite for Homer's epic.

5 out of 5 stars "I long to be homeward bound" Simon and Garfunkle.......2007-04-29

The Trojan War is over and one of our hero kings is lost. His son (Telemachus) travels to find any information about his father's fait. His wife (Penelope) must cunningly hold off suitors that are eating them out of house and home.

If he ever makes it home Odysseus will have to detect those servants loyal from those who are not. One absent king against rows of suitors; how will he give them their just deserts? We look to Bright Eyed Pallas Athena to help prophecy come true.

Interestingly all the tales of monsters and gods on the sea voyage was told by Odysseus. Notice that no on else survives to tell the tale. So we have to rely on Odysseus' word.

Many movies took sections of The Odyssey, and expanded them to make interesting stories those selves.

Not just the story but the way in which it is told will keep you up late at night reading.

3 out of 5 stars Good coverage of angelic names but poor references........2007-07-23

This title is very thorough in expounding upon the different names of both angels and demons. However, it has a major flaw in that it relies heavily on fictional accounts, such as Milton, to collaborate its data. Therefore, I cannot recommend it for serious study. Additionally, following the tradition of most dictionaries, the descriptions are rather terse.

For mere entertainment it is adequate, but that's all.

3 out of 5 stars Angel refenerce.......2007-05-20

Has probably most of the angels known to man throughout history and from all cultures and beliefs. Some more information about some of the main ones would have been helpful. A good reference if you are into angels.

5 out of 5 stars A Hefty Appetizer For The Budding Theologian.......2007-04-30

If you're like me and are curious about the oddities of religion this book delivers plenty for the price. It is very expansive, especially in the eyes of a theological novice. But while others who have more experience may know its limitations, for me the book is a joy! I've become more acquainted (than I had previously thought possible) with the mysterious beings that dwell in the background of most religions. I found myself not only checking the familiar names but being drawn almost immediately to the lesser known beings. One of my favorites is Nisroc: An Assyrian god, then a ruling angel in Milton's Paradise Lost, and finally the chief of cuisine of Hell! There are many cases of deities changing to angels, angels to deities, and both into devils. All of this and full page page illustrations from old masters like of Durer, Blake, and Dore. It really doesn't matter if you're a skeptic, scholar, beginning theologian, or occultist - I would recommend this wonderfully easy-to-use work to any of these! Bravo Mr. Davidson!

5 out of 5 stars Highly Detailed Reference Book.......2007-03-23

I first discovered, Dictionary of Angels when I owned a small angel emporium. This is an actual dictionary with incredibly detailed descriptions of every angel imaginable. It is also an incredible book to read and learn about the angels throughout history. I still go to this book as a reference when I write about the angels, have questions about which angel is in charge of what ever I am curious about. Great book. I usually do not leave reviews unless the book is really moving or has some above standard substance. This is no exception. This book is top shelf in my library, and that's high praise! Blessings in the Mire

5 out of 5 stars If you don't have it, get it.......2007-03-20

When I first became interested in fallen angels I had a hard time finding information about them, especially online where a lot of information was on badly-designed black background/red text sites or part of a game verse.

The Dictionary of Angels is the most helpful at-a-glance angel books I've ever come across - most of what armchair demonoligists or hobbyists could want to know is contained within its pages. It doesn't have everything, but it's an excellent place for anyone to start their research. Highly recommend.

THE CURE CONSPIRACY by Gayle K. Wood suggests via its title that it is anti-traditional medical science and pro natural remedies, sort of like a scaled down version of Kevin Trudeau's iconoclastic NATURAL CURES "THEY" DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW. This book is nothing of the sort. It strictly follows the FDA and AMA party line of accepted treatments. About the most "natural" remedies that Wood endorses is drink lots of water and herbal tea, do yoga, and have hypnosis for pain. The so-called other "natural" cures Woods frowns on--DHEA, Guggul for cholesterol control, and chelation therapy--she relegates to quackery. Conversely, other "natural" cures she endorses--Botox, Dairy for weight loss, and magnets for osteoarthritis--are now increasingly seen as useless at best and harmful at worst by naturopaths and herbalists.

For those who truly wish to learn of alternative therapies that the FDA, FTC, and AMA look down on but have been endorsed by generations of practitioners and users who are not in bed with Big Business will have to look elsewhere.

Despite the single letter at the heart of its hyphenated title, The E-Myth Contractor isn't another book about e-commerce. Instead, like previous entries in Michael E. Gerber's popular series, it focuses on a different e-word--entrepreneur--and the fact that most of us who go into business for ourselves are doomed to fail because we really don't understand business. This time, Gerber lays out the basics for starry-eyed newly self-employed contractors who know everything about their trade but precious little about being a boss. "I don't try to tell you how to do the work you do," he writes at the outset. "Rather, I share with you some profound insights into how great businesspeople think." In his easy-to-understand manner, Gerber explains the concept of Strategic Thinking and how it "will enable you to create a business that works apart from you instead of because of you." He addresses key topics like money, people, management and growth with an eye toward making related functions run seamlessly and effectively as we build our independent enterprises into true companies that have inherent value whether we stay involved or ultimately hand them off to eager buyers. Taken to heart, it could save more than a few worthy ventures as well as the people behind them. --Howard Rothman

Book Description

With The E–Myth Contractor, Michael E. Gerber launches a series of books that apply the E–Myth to specific types of small businesses. The first is aimed at contractors.

This book reveals a radical new mind–set that will free contractors from the tyranny of an unprofitable, unproductive routine. With specific tips on topics as crucial as planning, money and personnel management, The E–Myth Contractor teaches readers how to:

•Implement the ingenious turnkey system of management – a means of creating a business prototype that reflects the business owner's unique set of talents and replicating and distributing them among employees and customers.

•Recognise and manage the four forms of money – income, profit, flow and equity.

•Harness the power of change to expand the company.

The book also provides help on a larger level, leading readers towards becoming business visionaries by relinquishing tactical work and embracing strategic work, by letting go to gain control. Once put into action, Gerber's revolutionary ideas promise not only to help contractors build successful businesses, but successful lives as well.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent small business framework.......2007-07-23

Michael Gerber does a very good job outlining a basic approach to small business development. His approach may give some readers an enlightened perspective on their current small business dilemas. He has an insightful understanding of how typical contractors think and the challenges we all deal with everyday. This book won't solve your problems - you have to do that - but it will give you the basic groundwork needed to change the way you think about your business and how you run it.

4 out of 5 stars Quick read explaining importance of CashFlow for business owners........2007-07-12

This is another in the series of E-myth books. While focused on (building) contractors, it is very applicable for any business owner. It breaks down the different ways to look at money related to business. A quick read, especially if you have read the e-myth Revisited. I usually go purchase a bunch for each new client to get them on the same page of understanding that running your business by the checkbook or float is a recipe for disaster. I recommend reading this after e-myth revisited and before e-myth mastery.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-03-14

Absolutley essential book. He shares some great business ideas that you might have otherwise overlooked.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the time or money.......2007-02-04

This book repeats a few of the strategies presented in "The E-Myth Revisted", trying to point them at the contractor. Unfortunately, except for a couple of good ideas from that book, there is nothing here but fluff and pep talk. At one point, I think you can actually tell where material was cut-and-pasted from the sister book about medical practices, where they accidentally forgot to change "practice" to "contracting business".

If you found some chapters of the "The E-Myth Revisted" to be a bit fluffy for you, you can count on an entire (although short) book of it here. Very dissapointing and not particularly useful.

Book Description

More than ten years after his first bestselling book, The E–Myth, changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of small business owners, Michael Gerber椮trepreneur, author, and speaker extraordinaire楩res the next salvo in his highly successful E–Myth Revolution. Drawing on lessons learned from working with more than 15,000 small, medium–sized, and very large organisations, Gerber has discovered the truth behind why management doesn't work栮d what to do about it. Unearthing the arbitrary origins of commonly held doctrines such as the omniscience of leader (Emperor) and the most widely embraced myth of all擨e E–Myth Manager offers a fresh, provocative alternative to management as we know it. It explores why every manager must take charge of his own life, reconcile his own personal vision with that of the organisation, and develop an entrepreneurial mind–set to achieve true success.

Great stuff and a must have - appears to be simplistic but after you really study Gerber's well articulated strategy carefully - it will then reveal its true value.

4 out of 5 stars Be Your Own Emperor.......2006-12-24

Michael Gerber does not put much credence in the oodles of management and leadership theory and teachings that fill today's bookstores, seminars, and classrooms - to include those principles embraced by the titans in the field. One of the main ideas put forth in his book is that a manager must be able to treat his organization/department as if it were his own company. While not a new idea, Michael does take it a bit further insisting that it is an absolute requirement that each person's role in the organization must fill his own personal vision. When this is the case, the manager can find true fulfillment in his work and achieve wonderful things in the process. If not, all the theory, training, etc are pure folly. There's lots of good stuff in this one. It's an easy read too. Michael unveils the e-myth philosophy and how it can be implemented by walking through the process with a manager of his own company.

4 out of 5 stars In the limit.......2006-02-25

It was 10+ years since reading the original. Now mid-career I was like the young exec who is the mythical "atlas shrugged".

Gerber's book let me know that vision was still important and that you can't sacrifice your own vision without the resulting burnout.

At a few junctures it gets a little mystic and so I just flip the page.

But as an engineer it's been a boon to my work morale and I've been cranking out the patents and ideas as fast as I can. My vision is to pursue my talents with a tad more caution and ownership.

1 out of 5 stars Not like the original.......2005-10-31

If you are looking for the original emyth book that is LOADED with earth shattering ideas about how small business owners should look at their business - this is NOT it.

A very dissappointing philosophical book that meanders around with little inspiring points.

The emyth original is at the top of the must read books for business owners and this one might be near the bottom. Not to say that there are not some bright spots, but they are few.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed.......2005-09-16

Book Description

"all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by."

From the earliest days of explorations, there has always been one tried-and-true way to navigate through uncharted reaches and one to find the way home -- the stars. Ancient mariners prized their star charts, knowing that they could guide them safely into a friendly port or lead them to the reaches of the mysterious East. Modes of transportation have changes but the stars are still our constant. When man took his first step into space armed with the very latest in computers, he took with him the same tool for reading the stars that the men who sailed under canvas carried.

When humans launched the first ship designed for long-range missions into the deep waters of interstellar space, the Vulcan High Command provided their star charts for the Enterprise™. But Jonathan Archer was not content with relying on the known. Although he used the Vulcan charts, he also added to them, and greatly expanded Starfleet's knowledge of the galaxy. Every generation of starship captain that followed has built on Archer's first steps.

Follow the course set by Archer, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway. Relive their extraordinary adventures as you find here, for the first time, the star maps that chart the routes these famous explorers took.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I am glad I found the Star Trek Atlas........2007-09-17

Overall, this book was entertaining, and is worth every penny. The color charts are appealing, and informative. I know where wolf 359 was, I know where founders' homeworld is, I know how close Cardassia is to the Earth etc... Now that I have a map, it makes sense why

There were a few things the book should have included: A 3-D map since space is not 2 dimensional; a map of the entire galaxy on a fold-out would have been nice.

5 out of 5 stars I've always been curious about this..........2007-09-16

This is a great trivia item that can give you perspective on the fictional universe of Star Trek.

4 out of 5 stars Visually rich, but..........2007-08-31

This book is glossier than it appears on the website and I was pleasently surprised. It is no doubt a collector's item.
One small observation: The sector numbering system is inconsistent with earth sector being called sector 001 in "Best of both worlds - ST:TNG", The illustrations are very good, the stars and planets are designed nicely. Geographic classification details - worthy of praise. Overall a good reference book for all trekkies.
One word about graphics, though. The typography of page headers and bold lines in diagrams make it look like a kid's book. It is not. Star Trek is NOT a kid's fantasy. It is a great collaborative project of talented writers, scientists, engineers, graphic designers (and evident from this book - maybe even astrophysicists). It is one work of fiction that is made to look and feel like non fiction. I wish this book was designed like the interfaces by Michael Okuda that appear in the show.

4 out of 5 stars star power.......2007-07-16

For any fan this is a must book to get. The info in here are a must.

5 out of 5 stars Very well done!.......2007-06-24

This is exactly what I was looking for! The amount of information contained in this small book is impressive; a primer on stellar cartography, information on many planets from all four quadrants, galactic trade routes, and best of all, a detailed map of Voyager's path through the Delta quadrant (very fun to watch the series and track their progress). Any fan of Star Trek who enjoys the scientific and geographic details of the series will especially benefit from this book. Although I like it, some may not like the fact that it reads similar to a text book or manual. If you enjoy geography or astronomy and are a fan of Star Trek, you'll like this book!
