5 out of 5 stars Interesting book.......2007-10-08

Reading a text book has never been so much fun. I read this during my MBA classes. Why won't every author write their book and drive the point home with such fun stories that don't just drive the point home, but also keep it there forever?

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Hilarious Novel for Learning Management.......2007-10-03

"The Goal" is a hilarious novel but with a serious business message particularly with respect to production/operations management. The author expertly wove an intricate story about a plant manager (Alex Rogo) whose factory and marriage are failing into a compelling and convincing explanation about how to deal with constraints and bottlenecks effectively, not only in business but also in everyday life. This is a good captivating read particularly for those who find reading business and management books to be dry and having a soporific effect.

Alex Rogo's life is made very difficult by bottlenecks, constraints, excess inventories and pressure from management that demands efficiency in the factory operations. However, through mastering the theory of constraints (TOC), the appreciation of a business as a system, the effective use of industrial engineering techniques as well as common sense, Alex and his team overcome the problems.

This is an enlightening book that is easy to read and understand for people particularly those who a new to managing an organization. You will learn about the goal of an organization, waste (and how to avoid it), cost structures, team utilization, supply chain bottlenecks, identify improvements, work prioritization and enhance efficiencies.

You will get the most from this book if you also read the Toyota Production System which can fix many of the problems highlighted in this book. Among the highlights of the Toyota Production System are the Just-in-Time inventory system, production leveling, multi-skilling, the pull method of production planning which provides a more comprehensive approach to manufacturing operations. Another useful investment is to get a copy of the classic book "The Fifth Discipline" by Peter Senge (if you have not yet read it). Senge proposes the "systems thinking" method to help companies to become "learning organizations" that integrates all personnel levels and functions (such as production, human resources, finance etc) to increase the ability of the organisation to be more productive and effective.

In summary, this is an outstanding book packed with insightful wisdom that I recommend to employees at all levels in an organization as well as students studying business.

I received this product in good time and condition. Brand New. Saved quite a bit of money over the campus book store price.

4 out of 5 stars Solid read applicable to business and beyond.......2007-07-29

The Goal is a well-written book, broadly applicable to anyone in business and to an extent life in general. It is a no-nonsense novel, utilizing and exploring real-life situations and personalities. What I liked most about the book is the integration of "scientific" approach to business, how assumptions are constantly questioned, explored, and reformulated, and how the human element is, albeit slightly, interwoven.

While the most benefit clearly is in manufacturing context, I find the book to be useful and I work in professional services. I akin the Theory of Constraints ("bottleneck management") to Stephen Covey's example of "moving big rocks", hence the applicability to life in general. Said another way, I believe one must focus on the things that are most constraining (the boundaries), and this method of thought is explored in The Goal. The book also interweaves personal experiences into the "core" business theme, which allows for some examination of life outside of work and of course personalizes the story.

Overall, great book and a suggested read for sure.

5 out of 5 stars The Goal.......2007-06-08

If you told me that a story about cost accounting in a factory would be interesting I would say you are nutts. However this story is extremely will written & entertaining thru the first 80%. The finish concerning philosophy could be left off.
I would listen to the book until I reached the end of a chapter because it was interesting even when I had arrived at my driving distination.
I do have an accounting background so that may affect my opinion.

Most financial books are more complicated than Japanese arithmetic. This is actually understandable and the advice is rock-solid. If you have only one book on investing this should be it.

The Smartest Investment Book You'll Ever Read (Unabridged)This book is for certain investors who do not want to

real meaning for that group of people

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-07-31

I absolutely enjoyed listening to it. It was a little bit boring in the beginning but at the end Don Solin gives you advise what to do. I will take his advise once I have some money saved up and invest it to see if it works! I sure it does!

5 out of 5 stars Really, really simple; but really, really effective.......2007-06-28

I don't think I've ever read a simpler book on investing. I think I finished it in two hours or less, and though it obviously lacks a lot of detail, I can't say there's anything really important that was left out.

Solin spends a lot of time describing investment traps to avoid, such as active management and other, high-cost strategies. Then he spends a very few pages describing a very simple way to construct a diversified, low-cost portfolio of mutual funds. He suggests specific allocations in just a handful of specific funds in specific fund families for specific types of investors. Literally, all you have to do is pick which kind of investor you are and then just follow the allocations Solin suggests. Rebalance once or twice a year, and you're set. Even my sister could do it in 30 minutes or less per year.

It may be hard for people to believe that such a simple strategy could work, but decades of research show that a simple, low-cost, diversified portfolio outperforms the vast majority of actively managed funds, and with relatively little risk.

The advice to "Keep it simple, stupid!" was never so appropriate.

I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars A classic book on investing.......2007-06-22

I agree with the other reviewers that this book is an outstanding essay for those who want to learn how to invest. For the average investor to avoid uncompensated risk one must use an index mutual fund that has a sufficient number of issues to virtually eliminate uncompensated risk. To accomplish this an index fund is the only practical solution. Index funds and Exchange Traded Funds are available for this purpose. We call the excess return over and above the market return the value premium. Value stocks do provide returns in excess of broad market returns but in order to have adequate diversification you must assemble several hundred issues well beyond the resources of the average investor. For the period 1964 to 2000 large cap value stocks outperformed large cap growth stocks 14.5% to 11.1% and for small cap stocks 16.6% to 12%. These are huge differences. Solin's comments on small cap value stocks ignor that they can be part of a portfolio and when they are that the return is commensurate with the risk assummed. The same comment applies to the large-cap value asset class.
The book is very skinny for the price and I believe there are other books that offer as good advise but go into the subject in a little more more depth.

I can offer a solution to this problem. I want to recommend to you a book titled How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 different stocks for $1000 - Pay no Commission This book is a must for those wanting to find out about indexing (passive investing) and why it is the superior method for the small investor (and big one too). This book is an outstanding guide to personal investing. It will be useful to all investors from novices to highly the highly experienced. This book prepares the reader to approach investing from the standpoint of the underlying science. It is the antithesis of a 'get rich quick scheme'.

All aspects of Modern Portfolio Theory and passive (index) investing are explained in a through and easily understood manner. The aspect I like most is that as well as a solid theoretical foundation the book is very practical and shows the reader how to create (and more importantly) and manage over time a successful portfolio. This is a great book- for the beginning investor, it's a great place to start and for the experienced investor there are many valuable suggestions.

It's a shame to think of how much money investors have lost "investing" in the stock market over the years. I wish I had read this little book years ago. The chapter on automatic investing recommends a number of portfolios that follow modern portfolio theory and adjust risk as you age without any effort on the part of the reader at all. Had this book been written years ago and had I followed its directions I would be rich today of that I am certain. Nevertheless I will pursue one of the portfolios recommended and stick to it as my investing plan.

5 out of 5 stars Excelent business book.......2007-10-02

The plot of this book is set in a manufacturing environment.
The author does an excelent job at explainig the theory of constraints. And although I work in software engineering, I could directly see the applicability of everything I read to my job.
And the best part is that the book is written 'for the rest of us'. Even a kid could understand it!

5 out of 5 stars a must have for anyone in a manufacturing environment.......2007-09-26

I purchased this book for a college class that I am taking in MGMT. However, after listening to this book, I could see where the Theory of Constraints applied to my job, now I don't work in a manufactuing environment, more of a repair facility. But I could not believe how I could relate the two. This book is good for the worker bees as well as Mgmt. As I work in one environment and am achieving to be in Mgmt, I could really see the principles being used in this book. Goldratt is a genius!!

War is hell, but if you prepare properly for war, there's not much about life that will take you by surprise. At least, that's the premise of Unleashing the Warrior Within, in which author Richard Machowicz takes the lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL and applies them to real-life situations.

For example, in war you learn that there are three dynamic elements of combat: target, weapons, and movement. The target dictates the weapons, and the weapons dictate movement. In real life, your target is what you want; your weapons are your skills; and movement is whatever you need to get in position to use your skills.

But, since deciding upon a target is the step that's most troubling to people, he adds another wartime analytical tool called the CARVER matrix. You lay out various targets you may have in life--a better job; getting in shape; buying a new house; and taking on a new business partner, say. Then you assess the criticality, accessibility, recognizability, and vulnerability of the target, plus its effect on your overall mission in life, and the potential return on your effort.

Machowicz calls his philosophy Bukido, and when you take his classes in Los Angeles, you learn self-defense along with these life-improvement skills. In this book, the object is to get you to choose a mission that is closest and most important to you, and then achieve your goals with military precision. By the time you're through learning the seven principles of combat, what you've really learned is how to think critically and focus your efforts. Machowicz uses his students as examples of how the enemy in life is really a lack of action, allowing life to take you along for a ride. So if your current target is a solid self-improvement course, Unleashing the Warrior Within could be your most effective weapon. --Lou Schuler

Book Description

Richard Machowicz knows first hand that life can be a lot like war. A ten-year veteran of the Navy SEALs, he was trained to complete whatever mission was handed to him, under any condition, because failure was not an option. Now, in Unleash the Warrior Within, Machowicz takes the winning attitude and mental skills he mastered in service and shows readers how to use combat mentality to reach their goals in everyday life. Using his seven principles of combat—which include Create an Action Mind-Set, The Critical Keys to Conquering Anything, and Guarantee the Win—Machowicz shows readers how to master the arts of focus, discipline, and determination under any circumstances, giving them the tools they need to conquer fear and turn their ambitions and dreams into reality. A new preface is included in this paperback edition of this inspiring guide. “Machowicz gives you the tools necessary to ensure that you win in the battle of life.”—Jim Rome, host of the nationally syndicated radio show, The Jungle, and FOX television’s The Last Word

5 out of 5 stars Great book to get yourself focused on achieving your goals.......2007-06-28

On the surface this book may appear to be either similar to many of the other ex-military books describing the life of a member of the special forces or a self-help type book geared towards males. It actually falls somewhere in between. Unlike other books about Navy Seals that tell you what it took physically, this tells you what it took mentally and psychologically to persevere through BUD/S training. The anecdotes about Machowicz's life in the Seals is the backdrop to a mental discipline he describes in straight forward language. The book describes many mental techniques to keep you moving forward towards what you really want to do, as well as finding out what is holding you back. One of the more useful concepts in the book was a simple exercise that shows you where you should really be spending your time and effort. Like Sun Szu's Art of War being applied to the corporate world, this ex-Navy Seal's experience can be applied to your daily life. While many psychological based books tell you how you should run your life, this one simply provides you with psychological tools and leaves the rest to you. Anyone feeling like they are in a rut or find their goals just out of reach should read this book.

4 out of 5 stars Good Read.......2007-05-09

I judge all books that I read by a simple parameter - If I can get at least 1 worthwhile thought, piece of knowledge, or idea from any book that I read - then it was well worth it. This book gave me a few great concepts - with the most notable for me being "You can ALWAYS do more than you THINK you can". I am sure Richard Machowicz attained this thought process from his Navy Seal days...but I have used the concept frequently since I have read the book to help me attain higher results in a variety of situations than I may have previously. For me - that's a winner.

5 out of 5 stars Focus and direction in a cheap paperback!.......2007-04-11

I tend to be one of those people with a million ideas but never enough time to finish them all. This book offers a unique method to rank and prioritize goals that I found to be very helpful in deciding what is worth pursuing and what should be put off for later. I've found it much more useful than any other time-management system I've learned, including expensive corporate-sponsored Franklin Covey courses on focus and time management. And so cheap compared to a corporate seminar!

5 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE! MUST READ!.......2007-03-15

This is not so much a "self help" book as it is more for "self worth!" In it, Mack teaches you how to tap into your potential, to make yourself a stronger, more confident person. Being in law enforcement, I must recommend this book to all my brothers and sisters in blue!

3 out of 5 stars Fighting Your Demons.......2006-12-16

In this relatively short book, the author encourages civilains battling everyday problems to use the principles of combat to succeed. A former Navy SEAL, the author intersperses his techniques with anecdotes from his SEAL experience.

The writing is terse and the book ends abruptly but his adventures as a SEAL are both harrowing and fascinating. However, the weakness of the book is the heavy military vernacular and the paucity of examples where his system is applied to mundane struggles. His system is certainly time tested but resistance based (everything is a fight and involves knocking down targets). While his personal journey is impressive, his system is unwieldy particuarly when compared with some of the better Law of Attraction materials so popular today.

This book provides a tough, no nonsense approach to life and goal setting. The demanding SEAL regimen leaves no room for error or lack of committment. However, implementing the system may be too challenging for most.

We all come into this world with "Sacred Contracts," according to bestselling author Caroline Myss. Some know it as a calling. Some see it as a life mission. "In short, a Sacred Contract is an agreement your soul makes before you are born," Myss explains. "You promise to do certain things for yourself, for others, and for divine purposes. Part of the Contract requires that you discover what you are meant to do." Herein lies the rub. Decoding our Sacred Contract requires us to become fluent in the language of symbols and archetypes so that we can interpret dreams, understand the meaning behind "coincidences," and learn to follow our intuition. This is why Myss (The Anatomy of the Spirit) offers an extensive lesson on helping readers recognize their personal archetypes (we have about 12 of them), such as the Avenger (righteous activists), Networker (journalists, messengers), or Prostitute (someone who "sells out" easily). Myss then goes on to help readers create their own "Chart of Origin" (which profiles your "spiritual DNA"), using the teachings of the chakras and astrology. Part science, part ancient tradition, part magic, this book will gratify readers who are prepared to study the fine print of their Sacred Contracts. --Gail Hudson

Book Description

New York Times bestselling author and medical intuitive Caroline Myss has found that when people don’t understand their purpose in life the result can be depression, anxiety, fatigue, and eventually physical illness—in short, a spiritual malaise of epidemic proportions. Myss’s experience of working with people led her to develop an insightful and ingenious process for deciphering your own Sacred Contract—or higher purpose—using a new theory of archetypes that builds on the works of Jung, Plato, and many other contemporary thinkers.

Myss examines the lives of the spiritual masters and prophets—Abraham, Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad—whose archetypal journeys illustrate the four stages of a Sacred Contract and provide clues for discovering your own. Myss explains how you can identify your particular spiritual energies, or archetypes—the gatekeepers of your higher purpose—and use them to help you find out what you are here on earth to learn and whom you are meant to meet. Exploring your Sacred Contract will shine a light on the purpose and meaning of your life. You are meant to do certain tasks, you are meant to have certain relationships.

In coming to know your archetypal companions, you also begin to see how to live your life in ways that make the best use of your personal power and lead you to fulfill your greatest—in fact, your divine—potential.

2 out of 5 stars Reading Assignment for College Course.......2007-09-04

A college course had this as a must read. I literally struggled through this entire class. All of my classes were also along this type of genre; were all interesting and gained knowledge...except this book. After I struggled through it, I couldn't even finish the classwork on this. That is how incomplete and disorganized this reading is. The book is not thorough enough to gather the necessary information and knowledge that it claims to do. I am so disappointed and turned off by this book which has left me in a holding pattern of completing my Bachelors degree in Metaphysics. "Huh?" was how I felt after reading this book TWICE! I must finish this course with this book in order to graduate so I've ordered the CD version hoping that maybe listening to it may help in completing the course so that I can move onto my Masters degree in Metaphysics. I promise whomever is reading this that I will never publish a book that is so difficult to put to good use. This book is awful. It's long, dragged out, and incomplete. With the amount of reading that I've had to do in Metaphysics (which is tremendous), this book is a total let down for me. Mind you, every class that I've taken for my degree so far, I've had at least a 92 for a final grade. This course, I still have an "Incomplete" for. That proves how difficult this book is to put into useable information and knowledge. UGH!!! What a drag!!!

4 out of 5 stars An exellent tool to get to know yourself better in many levels.......2007-07-30

I think of this book as a tool to get to know yourself better in many levels!!! Beside reading the book, you have to do some work using the guidance in the book, I think it's worth the effort!!! This book gives you a lot of information and with your own intuition you can find what is your mission in this world. It helps you indentify your weaknesses, and helps you overcome them, It helps empower you to reach your potential!!!

1 out of 5 stars Publish....or Perish.......2007-07-23

When Caroline came out with this book she had just about exhausted what could be said on how we cause our own diseases and she had also sworn off doing intuitive health readings. So what was left?? She needed to keep her name in print so we got this unlikely marriage. I was a big fan of Caroline's early books and even spent a great deal of time on her website....until this came out. As an astrologer, tarot reader and Humanities professor, I find her idea of combining the houses of the Zodiac with 12 archetypes and a tarot-like random draw, a better prescription for insanity than spirituality.

In Astrology there are archetypes. Mars is an archetype. It represents force and can be thought of as an aggressive male. By the same token Saturn is often represented as father time and rules limitations. However, the practice of astrology is about subtle relationships between these archetypes and the signs and houses. The houses are linked by a detailed system of rulers and aspects. The idea that each area of life is completely separate and ruled by one force is neither astrology nor a very enlightened way to use archetypes. Just because Mars is in the third house of communication does not mean that you communicate in an aggressive manner. If it is in the sign of Pisces, you may be quite restrained. In Caroline's book, if you pick Warrior for your third house (which is a huge archetype) then there is no mitigating influence.

I can't imagine someone being a financial victim, a romantic hero, a nun in their working environment, possessing the values of a charlatan, a child when it comes to partnerships.....let's see...how many is that??? Only 5 we have 7 more selves to discover!! You get the picture. While all of us express different personality traits under different circumstances, to say that we all express 12 full archetypes implies schizophrenia. Not only is the system flawed but rather than provide spiritual insight it seems exceptionally well suited to spiritual cop outs. While on Caroline's site I found people using the system in a most "unspiritual" manner. I remember one gentleman who said he realized that he was a "Rescuer" and that he should stop rescuing his ex....and their child.

Book Description

A bold manifesto by two business leaders, A Billion Bootstraps shows why microcredit is the world's most powerful poverty-fighting movement-and an unbeatable investment for your charitable donations.

A Billion Bootstraps unearths the roots of the microcredit revolution, revealing how the pioneering work of people such as Dr. Muhammad Yunus-winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize-is giving hope to billions. Philanthropist and self-made millionaire Phil Smith and microcredit expert and consultant Eric Thurman provide a riveting narrative that explores how these small loans, arranged by “barefoot bankers,” enable impoverished people to start small businesses, support their families, and improve local economies. By paying back their loans instead of simply accepting handouts, men and women around the world are continually giving others the same opportunity to change their futures.

Smith and Thurman also examine why traditional charity programs, while providing short-term relief, often perpetuate the problems they are trying to alleviate, and how applying investment principles to philanthropy is the key to reversing poverty permanently.

A Billion Bootstraps explains how ordinary people can accelerate the microcredit movement by investing charitable donations in specific programs and then leveraging those contributions so the net cost to lift one person out of poverty is remarkably low. You'll discover how to get more for your money by donating with the mind-set of an investor and calculating measurable returns-returns that will change lives and societies forever.

3 out of 5 stars Its an overview of what microcredit is but not how to start one .......2007-09-19

This is a good book in explaining what microcredit is and how to get involved, but not how to run a microcredit organization.

I preferred Mohammed Yunus (the noble prize winner) autobiography to this book it gave a better summary of what it is and explains how microcredit can work in the rural and inner city US which a Billion Bootstraps doubts can happen. In Yunus' book he demonstrates how microcredit has worked programs in urban Chicago and rural Arkansas.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to Microfinance.......2007-08-26

The book explains well the business model of microfinance, what works and what not. It provides a very good insight into this industry. The author has obviously broad experience.

5 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Those Who Seek to End Poverty.......2007-05-27

A Billion Bootstraps is potentially a world changing book. It describes the most effective way to end poverty that I've ever heard about. I had heard about micro loans -- before but didn't know how it worked or how powerful it can truly be. Many misguided people believe that giving people things is the answer to poverty, and sadly, that is rarely the case. Intuitively many of us have also realized this but never had a better way, never had an answer. Here's the answer and it's told and explained in a straigt forward and compelling way. I particulary enjoyed the stories of the lives that have been changed by micro loans, truly inspiring. My hat is off to Phil Smith and Eric Thurman for the fine work they have done in spreading the good word about the creative business solution to poverty. This is creative problem solving at it's finest. For more about creative problem solving, see: Jack's Notebook: A business novel about creative problem solving

5 out of 5 stars Powerfully motivating.......2007-04-16

The best way to attack poverty is through the use of sound economic principles. This book will inspire you to look at poverty, not as a hopeless problem, but as an opportunity to effect real change in the lives of individuals. By acting upon the lessons of this book, you can ignite the spark of personal industry in the lives of people who can then create lasting wealth for their families, communities, and countries; finally succeeding where "charity" had previously failed. Reading this book will show you how you truly can make a difference.

5 out of 5 stars enlightening read.......2007-04-15

A Billion Bootstraps changed the way I view charitable giving. Now instead of "giving to a charity," I am "investing in changing lives." What's more, I've learned to look for and expect accountability from the organizations which receive my money. Microcredit, which once seemed an esoteric concept, is now accessible to those of us who don't have business or economics degrees, thanks to Philip Smith and Eric Thurman. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to intelligently invest in changing lives of the poorest of the poor.

I am a business consultant for client companies whose business size is $30-50 million sales.I have been consulting for 27 years.I continue to find department heads and general management lacking the experience or know-how in establishing goals for their departments, associates or the over-all organization.

The subject tool, provides a common sense method for jump-starting management in the establishment of departmental and organization goals.I use this tool as a instructional approach. I have found that clients improve their communications and specific action. The tool gives the manager confidence.

Lots of great ideas and thoughts to better express a behavior.

3 out of 5 stars Perfect Phrases for Setting Performance Goals - not so perfect.......2006-02-17

My reason for purchasing the book was to have a resouce for our employees to use as they are writing their goal statements based on the SMART goal matrix. I did not find it as helpful as I was hoping in demonstrating what a good, specific, measurable goals looks like. I think it gives you a few beginning words but should have expanded more within the examples.

2 out of 5 stars Perfect Phrases for Setting Performance Goals.......2004-08-07

When I order this book, I thought I will get lots of ready-to-use "Goals" which I can esay to set my subordinate's Goals. But I am very disappoint. Lots of Goals listing in the books are actually the working items not goals. Like "Deposit completed backups...", "Schedule all planned shutdown...". Therefore this book help me to setup the work items of my subordinate not set the goals.

I have found the Team Memory Jogger to be very valuable to me. The Team Memory Jogger is packed with usefull and helpful tools to help meeting facilitators, team leaders and participants get organized, stay focused and achieve real results.

4 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reminder of Do's and Don'ts in a Team.......2001-03-21

This pocket-size book is an excellent reference book to be kept under hand for those who need being reminded when working in a team. Since we are a part of a team everywhere (at the university, at work, at professional projects, in our daily lives), this book appeals to merely everyone. The book does not only focus on teamworking at workplace, but gives tips one may need for any productive teamwork. Five major topics of the book comprises tips, each of which is illustrated, and supported by real-life examples. Every topic commences with Start-up Checklist, which addresses the common mistakes of team workers, and helps to highlight the reader's pitfalls. The book does not have a didactic nature, but sounds just like as if a friend is talking to the reader giving suggestions from hi previous experience. By the end, whether one reads it word by word or just gives a quick look, the book gives something valuable to the reader.

Book Description

The Wish List is a quirky little gift book that sounds an irresistible call to get out there and start living. In the same chunky format as the authorfs bestselling 14,000 Things to Be Happy About, The Wish List presents a compulsively readable list of unexpected goals. There are wishes large--retrace Odysseus' route around the Mediterranean--and wishes small--find a genuine arrowhead. There are artistic wishes--write a sonnet. Athletic wishes--learn to box. Practical wishes--master the rudiments of plumbing. Whimsical wishes--become a taster at Ben & Jerry's. And fantasy wishes--live in a Venetian palazzo. The Wish List is meant to plant seeds, jog us out of complacency, and articulate unspoken desires.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful To Keep Going Back To..........2006-07-30

This book made me realize two things when I received it in 1997. First, I need to remember how many things I have accomplished in my life. Second, what an accomplishment or "wish" is to one person is not to me. I define my own success.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely love it!!!.......2006-05-26

I bought this book about 5 years ago and have had so much fun reading it. I know I'll never get to do all of the "wishes" but I do check them off as I complete them. I would love to see how many I can achieve in the next 40+ years. It's a great book when you're bored to just pick up and open to any page. My kids have fun looking at it with me too. This is one of the greatest books I've ever opened!

5 out of 5 stars great ideas.......2005-12-13

I have been keeping for sometime a notebook in which I write things that I want to do in my life from sailing, visiting Italy, and writing a magazine article to eating less fried foods, and stop worrying for once. I have about 500 entries and its a great feeling when I can slash them off after they are completed. I bought Kipfer's 14,000 Things to be Happy About and I liked the lists of things she mentions that make you happy since it was so diverse and amusing. When I saw The Wish list, I thought perfect for me because it was just lists of wishes like that of my notebook. I like this book a lot because its simply ideas and wishes that I would never have thought about. From simple wishes such as join a health food co-op, learn to play the piano, stand up for a friend to the challenging, have dinner with former governers, hike the Appalachian, sit next to Jack Nicholsen at a Lakers game, this book has tons of ideas. I have added many entries from it and have never failed to be entertained by Kipfer's ideas. This is a small thick book that would fit well in a stocking, on your desk, and in good reading spots such as an office or even a bathroom. I love to pull it out and pencil off or circle entries that I have done or wish to do.

5 out of 5 stars Makes A Great Graduation Gift.......2005-09-13

I have been giving this book as graduation gifts for several years and the "thank yous" I've received for every one each say how much they LOVE this book and can't wait to use it.

5 out of 5 stars Mid life crisis.......2005-06-21

I bought this for my friend who was suffering from a mid-life crisis. By marking the things he had done in red, he was able to see how many great experiences he had had in his life. More importantly, he saw how many more there were to look forward to experiencing.
