Book Description
Got Parts? was written by a survivor of DID in association with her therapist and therapy group. This book is filled with successful coping techniques and strategies to enhance the day-to-day functioning of adult survivors of DID in relationships, work, parenting, self-confidence, and self-care. Got Parts will help you introduce yourself to your internal family and improve its communication, integration, and well-being. Although written to carefully avoid triggering, it delivers well-grounded guidelines for living that DID people need to do on the way to recovery. Coping strategies included help you with issues related to triggers, flashbacks, and body memories. Got Parts also includes a detailed list of outside resources you can draw on. This book is intended to be used in conjunction with a therapist and is not a substitute for therapy.
Once thought of as a rare and mysterious psychiatric curiosity, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is now understood to be a fairly common outcome of severe trauma in young childrenmost typically extreme and repeated physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse, and often lack of attachment. Formerly called Multiple Personality Disorder, DID is a condition in which a person has two or more distinct identities or personality states that recurrently take control of the person's consciousness and behavior. Symptoms can include depression, mood swings, panic or anxiety attacks, substance abuse, memory loss, propensity for trances, sleep and eating disorders, distrust, detachment, lack of self-care, and distress or impairment at work.

Got Parts? An Insider's Guide to Managing Life Successfully with Dissociative Identity Disorder (New Horizons in Therapy).......2007-08-09

Book Review: Got Parts?.......2007-07-28
Got Parts? An Insider's Guide to Managing Life Successfully with Dissociative Identity Disorder, is a practical guide for those with Dissociative Identity Disorder, previously called Multiple Personality Disorder.
The book covers everything from what Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is to how to find a good counselor to how to deal with life issues. I felt the book was complete except in the area of discussing the distinct, important spiritual aspects of DID. Like several earlier books, Got Parts? highlighted the importance of spiritual healing in DID. But also like several earlier books, Got Parts? limited spiritual healing to Christian ethics, which, since abusive people can choose to use any kind of ritual to abuse, can reinitiate abuse in the recovering DID individual.
A much more complete book is "The Dissociative Identity Disorder Sourcebook", published in 2001 by Conbtemporary Books and written by Deborah Bray Haddock. Ms. Haddock also discusses the importance of spiritual damage and the need for spiritual healing, but she emphasizes the need for nonjudgemental, overall spirituality rather than any one religious philosophy.
Helpful and clear for all........2007-05-13
This is a very clearly written book for the person with DID and for those who need a refresher or are new to DID. It is specific, positive, and affirming of the process and the need for therapy and support. I highly recommend it for therapists new to DID, and their DID clients.
Worst DID book I've read.......2007-04-25
I rarely write reviews, but after discussing this book with others who have and haven't read it, I felt the need to write and warn those with DID about it.
The tone in which it is written is very authoratative which can be quite difficult to handle for anyone who has survived trauma at the hands of authority figures. The terms "have to" and "need to" are used repeatedly. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the author was able to heal in the way she explains in this book, but it comes across as if she's saying it's the "only" way to go through the healing journey.
There are many parts that are difficult to handle in this book. One section that really got to me is when she's discussing what she sees as a need for alters to be aware of and know who's fronting all the time. Then she says they also "need to know and be able to identify who they are" if your therapist asks. She reiterates this saying the part who is out has to "be willing to answer the question 'Who's here?' or 'Who am I talking with?' " The final straw for me on this subject was when she said that answering "I don't know" or "nobody" are not acceptable and "shyness, game-playing, or simply 'being confused' are not going to help you-all...." Face it, there are times when alters who are untrusting need to be able to come "out" during therapy in order to learn to trust and not be so shy. It may take months before they're able to say their names, if they ever do. Some experts in the field question the need names at all and don't push those alters who don't have names to choose names.
I think that this type of book, where people who have recovered from DID explain their process of healing, are needed, but this one isn't it. There are a few good suggestions in the book, but if you edited out all the negatives, it would be a very short article. Don't waste your time on this like I did. Please, if you have DID, reconsider the purchase of this book.
Really Love This Book!!.......2006-04-07
Don't let the size fool you. If you have been diagnosed with DID, then this little book of 109 pages is what you need. It doesn't go into the hows and whys of DID, the DID Source Book is great for that. What "Got Parts?" gives you is a day to day manual for getting through life with DID. I carry it in my backpack where ever I go. There are times that DID just gets me down, so I pick up the book, thumb easily to the section I want, take a minute to read about what I need to do, then I remember and do it. Another great thing about this book is that it is written by someone who has DID, who lives and fights in the trenches of DID. This brings authenticity to the book. It also has an index and is easy to locate the subject you are looking for. The writing style of the author is very easy going and she doesn't ever break into stories of her past. There is a page, however in the very back entitled, "About the Author" who remains unidentified. Even then she never talks about the details of her abuse. It's just plain good advice from someone who knows. I have several DID books, but this one is my favorite when I just need to get through the day. When I have moments of feeling crazy, I open the book. When I feel overwhelmed with emotion, I open this book. It helps me to clear my thinking and gives me immediate direction. In short, I really love this book.
Book Description
Racial Castration, the first book to bring together the fields of Asian American studies and psychoanalytic theory, explores the role of sexuality in racial formation and the place of race in sexual identity. David L. Eng examines imagesâliterary, visual, and filmicâthat configure past as well as contemporary perceptions of Asian American men as emasculated, homosexualized, or queer.
Eng juxtaposes theortical discussions of Freud, Lacan, and Fanon with critical readings of works by Frank Chin, Maxine Hong Kingston, Lonny Kaneko, David Henry Hwang, Louie Chu, David Wong Louie, Ang Lee, and R. Zamora Linmark. While situating these literary and cultural productions in relation to both psychoanalytic theory and historical events of particular significance for Asian Americans, Eng presents a sustained analysis of dreamwork and photography, the mirror stage and the primal scene, and fetishism and hysteria. In the process, he offers startlingly new interpretations of Asian American masculinity in its connections to immigration exclusion, the building of the transcontinental railroad, the wartime internment of Japanese Americans, multiculturalism, and the model minority myth. After demonstrating the many ways in which Asian American males are haunted and constrained by enduring domestic norms of sexuality and race, Eng analyzes the relationship between Asian American male subjectivity and the larger transnational Asian diaspora. Challenging more conventional understandings of diaspora as organized by race, he instead reconceptualizes it in terms of sexuality and queerness.
Racial Castration will make a landmark contribution to the fields of Asian American studies, psychoanalytic theory, ethnic studies, feminism, queer theory, gay and lesbian studies, postcoloniality, and critical race theory.

Ultimately less satisfying than one would hope.......2004-10-23
Although in some ways provocative, this book poses a question it never adequately grapples with--namely, can the "materiality" of race be properly characterized or understood as a "discursive limit" to ideological constructions of ethnicity without being understood as existing outside of discourse? It seems to me that Eng fails to address the question of whether such constructions may be regarded as either a pre- or extra-discursive "hard kernel of the Real," one the one hand, or simply another aspect of discourse, on the other hand. His work would benefit from a more thorough engagement with, and analysis of, the "objet petit a" in the work of Zizek and Lacan. Perhaps "race" in general ought to be regarded a primordial psychic "hole," an "absence" or pure negativity where a "grounding" for discourse ought to be but proves to be lacking. Unfortunately that is a proposition that Eng hints at but does not explore.
Of Limited Use.......2004-02-14
As a student of cultural studies who is interested in limning the taxonomic and theoretical relations among the "queer," the "Asian," and the "American," I must say that I found this book rather disappointing. Eng seems to have an unerring eye for the trivial, the irrelevant, and the beside-the-point. He also seems to be unfamiliar with current scholarship that highlights the errors underlying the view of the performative subject as a figure whose agency can, in any proper sense, be seen as "entailed" by virtue of its positionality vis-a-vis the rights-bearing subject. Eng would also have benefited from consulting recent legal scholarship on the "intersectionality" of the queer Asian male (or female), as well as the "co-synthesis" produced by juxtaposing various marginalized identities.
Refiguring the scrappy Asian/American field as such,.......2004-02-10
"Racial Castration: Managing Masculinity in Asian America" offers lucid, theoretically rich, and original readings of an array of Asian American texts to reveal how patterns of melancholy, loss, impotence, hysteria, anxiety, and reverse hallucination relate to the racially traumatic history of Asian/American immigration, failed assimilation, diasporic dispersal and the formation of alternative histories, queer communities, and modes of multiple identification. Works by Frank Chin, Maxine Hong Kingston, Lonny Kaneko, David Henry Hwang, Louie Chu, David Wong Louie, Ang Lee, and Zack Linmark are read with deft lucidity, originality, juxtaposition, and care. The study weaves a lucid expostion of textual detail and racialized subject-formation at the same time it respects the shifting dynamics of social constraint and historical context. In related workd like the multi-sited anthology on "Loss" and the therapy-framed essay "A Dialogue on Racial Melancholia," Eng moves to provide a far-reaching psychoanalytical model of a melancholy subjectivity that is not pathological nor individualized but fully socialized, situated in US race relations, and productive of historical and political transformations. The push from Lacan to Benjamin suggests Eng's left-leaning will to achieve an historical materialism with range, impact, and care.

This is work on "feeling" but with politics and vision, unlike a few others I might mention here "but prefer not to" this Sunday morning in Santa Cruz.
says it like no one else.......2002-02-24
I agree largely and almost wholly with the previous and first independent reviewer of this book: Eng's 'Racial Castration' is at times, hyperacademic and perhaps even overly into the realm of philosophy and not social studies. Still, it is a unique, overdue work on the perception of-- and the creation of the perception of-- asian american males in mainstream American society.
I believe that Eng brings up some extremely insightful and heretofore overlooked aspects that are central to 'Asian-american male masculinity' in America. First and foremost is the concept that, as 'queerness' or the 'feminization' of the asian american male is a direct result of the white-male-as-heterosexual-masculine-hegemony. Too often, asian american masculinity and the perception of asian american men in this country deems the denunciation of homosexuality-- 'queerness'-- as essential to acceptance as part of masculine America as a whole. I don't think that any authors to this point have pointed out the inherently intimate relation and intertwining of sexuality and race in this case. To throw out acceptance of gay Asian-America as masculine merely to seek acceptance of "masculine Asian-America" as a whole is a big mistake.
I think that Eng has rightfully pointed out how 'queer' Asian-American males are often left holding the bag as their own Asian-American culture, blind to how 'American culture' as emasculated their own heterosexual men, turns around and rejects the masculinity of their own 'queer' men. And I believe that it is true: Asian American men, queer or straight, face largely the same problems of how their masculinity is perceived in America, and both groups are basically in the same boat in this regard.
Eng's deep delving-- almost reaching?-- into areas that would seemingly be a stretch to relate to his topic (mainly deep psychoanalytical and philosophical theories of the perception/acceptance/rejection of self) are somewhat difficult to grasp, but I believe that they are germane because they do largely reinforce the elusive depth at which stereotypes of asian-american masculinity are adopted, inculcated, and reinforced from outside.
I believe that Eng has quite aptly addressed his stated mission of exploring the 'Racial Castration' of Asian American men in America, and I laud 'Racial Castration' as a theoretically seminal work. It is also aptly named. The only shame is that it will almost certainly be marginalized as 'academia', as it is written to be almost completely inaccesible to the general public, i.e., the average American. And while it does attack the theoretical/philosophical problems of the perception of asian-american masculinity in America, it probably won't do very much in the way of practically addressing what IS inherently an everyday, concrete social and political issue. *Real* social change won't occur in the ivory towers of academia, but with average Americans! Still, if it raises the awareness of even a few individuals who read it, it will have gratifyingly served its purpose.
It has raised mine; and for this reason, this book is a keeper in my collection!

I.T. Wars: Managing The Business-Technology Weave.......2007-05-07
I.T. Wars: "Managing the Business-Technology Weave in the New Millennium" by David Scott. This is a very interesting book, while combining all the business and technology tasks, in the end almost all the business activities realized in a company are supported by the I.T. department. Making the all the tech specialist essential for the company.
Some of the most interesting chapters were: Delivery - Project By Project, Business and IT: Who Does What, Why, and When?, Managing People in the Wave - The Challenge to IT. All these chapters are concerning the importance of IT in today's business world. The one thing that I especially liked was a view to managing those around you: Those you work on: people in the IT reporting to you, those you work with: Co-workers and those you work for: your supervisors. Every person in all these categories is essential and has their own responsibilities in the IT process.
Getting IT and Business on the Same Page..........2007-05-07
I.T. Wars by David Scott is an intriguing book that aims to bridge the divide between business and technology people within the workplace. He illustrates how both groups are in the same boat and must work together to conquer the many challenges that arise from the ever-changing world of technology.
Change is a continuum, and managers must be fully prepared to effectively plan for, implement, and support projects that will affect the business as a whole. Scott emphasizes the need for communication among several key groups of people, including IT, Business, and the end user.
Scott also provides insight into numerous other issues faced by business. The book teaches us how to effectively manage personnel, maintain the integrity of a company's security, the importance of a disaster recovery plan, how to deal with negativity, how to effectively give criticism, etc. The book is written in a way that's easy for any business professional to understand, no matter what their role is in the business. It's an easy read that's definitely worth the time.
Managing the Weave.......2007-05-05
Managing the "weave" between business and technology is no easy feat. This book provides excellent application to everyday challenges IT managers encounter while following a common sense approach. Just a few of the concepts covered in this book include:
1. Teaching the significance of "selling" your ideas to those in charge to jumpstart change
2. Stressing the importance of a proactive IT department
3. Dealing with criticism within the context of the IT setting
4. Recognizing that the threat of an electromagnetic pulse could stifle the world as we know it
All of these topics and many more are presented in a logically progressing, fundamental concept building order that is easily understandable and applicable to both ends of the business and information technology spectrum. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has business/I.T. interactions on a regular basis.
How Management and I.T. Can Coexist.......2007-05-04
I.T. Wars was a very comprehensive book, illustrating how beneficial it is for management and IT to work together. Though at times a little bit too repetitive for my taste there was a lot of good information to be gained by just reading the book. Communication is one of the topics addressed throughout the book. It makes sense to address this topic due to collaboration being a significant part of any business. In addition to communication David Scott also pointed out how problems arise and the best ways to overcome those problems.
Mr. Scott addressed change as being the inevitable and something that should not be feared. In the first few chapters in the book he points out that it is important to first address where you/your company is. Before any problems can be solved you should know where you are so that you can take the proper steps to move forward. One of those steps is to educate your employees.
In addition to educating your employees, Mr. Scott also addressed actual understanding of your employees and the classifications that they can fall into. He makes good points about speaking to people in terms that they may understand. Overall I found his book to be very insightful and beneficial to read.
I.T. Wars ..... Lucas would be pleased.......2007-05-01
Mr. David Scott's book "IT Wars: Managing the Business-Technology Weave in the New Millennium" is a decent book that covers almost all aspects of both project level efforts and daily business interactions between the Business side of companies and the "back office" IT functions that provide the backbone support of any modern organization. Although much of Mr. Scott's writings are directed primarily at the technology sector, much of the project management and coordination factors that Mr. Scott discusses could be applied in almost any business or project environment. Communication, observation, self-analysis, goal-setting, problem-solving, etc. are all aspects of modern business and human life in general that each and every person should strive to perfect in their business and personal lives.
One of the primary concepts that I found quite relevant to my business and personal lives, that Mr. Scott covered throughout this book, was the concept of "change as a continuum" or the simple fact that change is a process and not a destination. Too often, people(companies) begin to make changes to their lives(business) based on some external pressure; but once they have implemented the change or the external pressure has been removed, they stop the process altogether or revert back to old habits and go about business as usual. Treating change as a milestone in this manner will often set people(companies) up for future disaster, in the event that some peraonal tragedy(or catastrophic disaster or security breach) occurs. As with any muscle, the "change muscle" requires constant workouts to maintain proper tone and balance.
One complaint that I do have for this book is the seeming repetition of topics at times. Although I cannot specifically point to any particular passage that is replicated more than one place in the book, there were many instances in the book where I felt I had already read the material and did not gain any additional insight.
All-in-all, I found the book to be quite enjoyable and informative.
Book Description
Success greatly depends on the ability to understand the motivation behind our own behavior and that of others. This book presents a method of developing this ability. It has proved helpful to the hundreds of managers and professional people with whom the author has worked as a management consultant. In gaining better insight into human behavior, the achievement of success and satisfaction in our work and in life in general can acquire greater meaning. The enneagram is a proven personality typology that describes nine different personality types. The theory of the enneagram is that each person belongs to one of these nine types. Each type employs a specific strategy for success, which however also has its drawbacks. The enneagram is applied in a variety of ways in management, for instance in team-building, coaching, management development and organizational change. This book provides an introduction to the enneagram and its potential for application within the daily practice of managers and professionals. The first part of the book gives an overview of each individual type, showing how the enneagram works. In addition to a brief description of a type, there are also tips on how to deal with people of that type, and suggestions for the further personal development of the type in question. The second section contains answers to the most frequently asked questions about the enneagram, drawn from actual examples from international managers. This information covers questions concerning the theory behind the enneagram, possible applications in management, organizational culture in connection with the enneagram, commercial uses of the enneagram and how the enneagram can support personal growth and development. The book not only helps to provide insight into human behavior within organizations, it is above all an encouragement to all those who wish to gain deeper knowledge about themselves and about the motivation for human behavior.
Customer Reviews:
Clearly written and thoroughly fascinating!.......2001-09-14
This is really a great introduction to the enneagram for everyone, not just business people. One of the interesting things about the book is that it is an original - perhaps the first - Dutch publication on the subject, in which the author speaks from his experience of the enneagram in practice within a European context. The book begins with an introduction to the various types, and although my daily life takes place in a different environment, the language of the business world seems ideally suited to discussion of this subject, with its many points of view and consequences. The types seem to come to life through the description of their roles within offices and companies. The second section of the book satisfies an awakening curiosity by providing the answers to all sorts of questions about the enneagram, helping you to delve deeper into the subject. What I really appreciate about this book is how the author handles the material with. Quite a different story from recent lightweight publications that smack of superficiality, where the subject is presented as a kind of entertainment that goes little further than loosely pigeon-holing yourself - and others - as one type or another, based on certain kinds of behavior; interesting only until the next typology comes along. The fascination of the enneagram, on the contrary, lies in its focus on human motivating drives and its function as a wonderful tool for better understanding of ourselves. Not that you have to become deadly serious about it, and there is never any question of that in this book. It is written with genuine fascination for what is beneath the surface. And because the enneagram tells us such interesting things about ourselves and our nearest and dearest, that fascination is contagious. So there's a good chance that you'll find yourself attracted to some of the other books described in the descriptive bibliography at the end.
Book Description
In this fresh and original analysis, Brian J. McVeigh argues persuasively that far from being unique, Japanese nationalism becomes demystified once management and mysticism--the same processes and practices that operate in other national states--are taken into account. Stripping away Orientalist-inspired misconceptions, the author stresses the variety and relative intensity of nationalisms, ranging from economic, ethnic, and educational to cultural, gendered, and religious. Highlighting the legacy of renovationism, pluralism, and of identity among Japanese, this book will be an invaluable corrective to recent works that glibly proclaim the emergence of globalization, internationalization, and convergence. Book Description
Two decades of downsizing, delayering, corporate liposuction, lean manufacturing, empowerment, knowledge management and networked organization have shaken traditional assumptions about management to their foundations. Drawing on detailed empirical studies and recent theory on gender and power, the book explores the impact of recent changes on managers' identities and their responses in constructing new and multiple identities.
Book Description
How do people handle contrasting self-conceptions? Do they necessarily compartmentalize their personal lives from their professional lives? Do minority and immigrant groups, in particular, act “ethnic” at home, “American” at work, “racial” in pan-ethnic spaces? Managing Multicultural Lives moves past this common assumption and demonstrates how minorities actually bring together contrasting identities.
Using the words and experiences of Indian American and Korean American professionals themselves, Pawan Dhingra eloquently shows how people break down the popular "margins vs. mainstream" conception of group identity and construct a "lived hybridity." He offers new insight into minorities’ experiences at work, at home, and in civil society. These Asian Americans’ ability to handle group boundaries fluidly leads them to both resist and support stratified social patterns. It also indicates new, more nuanced understandings of immigrant adaptation, multiculturalism, and identity management that pertain to multiple types of immigrant groups.

Book Description
Caffeine. Candy. Sex. Shopping. Smoking. Whether we realize it or not, all of us have strategies for self-medicating ourselves when we feel threatened or overwhelmed by tension or tiredness. But why does one person respond to pressure by going for a five-mile run, while another indulges in a five-hour drinking marathon? Why do some of us crave companionship, while others just want to be alone? And what really helps most to reduce tension and increase energy, a brisk ten-minute walk, twenty minutes of meditation, or two hours of watching TV? In this fascinating new book, nationally known psychologist Robert E. Thayer serves as an expert guide through the latest research into moods and mood management, offering proven techniques for putting today's most important breakthroughs to work in our day-to-day lives. Thayer, whose own work on the biopsychology of moods has been widely discussed in the leading scientific journals--as well as in the pages of Reader's Digest, Prevention, USA Today, McCall's, Good Housekeeping, Men's Health, Redbook, and hundreds of other magazines and newspapers, and on the popular radio show "The Osgood File"--evaluates the hard scientific evidence as he reveals which behaviors energize and empower us, and which sabotage our best interests. (Just five or ten minutes of walking, for example, can enhance mood for an hour or more, while sugar snacking, Thayer shows, causes more tension than it reduces.) Thayer argues that when we learn to see moods as vital barometers of our whole psychology and physiology, rather than mysterious, purely emotional reactions to events around us, we not only understand ourselves better, we have the opportunity to substantially improve our personal effectiveness, both mentally and physically. Thayer offers compelling evidence that our moods--particularly feelings of energy and tension--are closely tied to the rhythms of our evolutionary past. They are directly affected by our health, the food we eat, the amount of sleep we get, exercise (or lack of it), and the time of day. We learn why problems seem more serious late at night, and why a simple disagreement with a co-worker or spouse is more apt to turn into an emotional flare-up at certain times of day. We investigate key differences in the most common ways men and women deal with bad moods, and probe the implications of these findings on our understanding of alcoholism and depression. Far from a shallow quick-fix book, Everyday Moods: Energy and Tension is an in-depth exploration of the origins and influences of moods that affect us every day of our lives. It brings readers to a new understanding of the underlying biology of their daily cycles of energy and tension, and offers powerful recommendations for breaking self-destructive habits and leading a richer, more enjoyable life.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent book for both laypersons and scholars........1999-10-02
This book is written by one of the foremost experts in the area of the study and theory of moods. Dr. Thayer's pioneering research in this area extends over a period of two decades. The book itself offers a scientific understanding of mood and arousal. It is rich in ideas as well as practical approaches to mood self regulation. In particular it presents a sophisicated but understandable theory of moods. The practical side of the book and one that appeals most to the average individual involves a framework, based on empirical research, on how to manage one's moods in order increase personal energy and calmness. This book contains very useful activities to assist in mood self regulation and self understanding.
Great read on a fascinating subject: moods.......1998-10-20
I just couldn`t stop reading once I got started. Thayer`s concept of how and why moods occur is not only easy to understand but also absolutely plausible. So much so that I've tried out a few things and found they work. It doesn`t mean that I go on 5-minute brisk walks every time I feel low, but since now I know (most of the times) where that feeling comes from it seems a lot less disturbing.
Learn the two things that affect EVERYONE's feelings..........1998-10-14
Robert Thayer's book has enlightened me to the one area I have never understood, good and bad feelings. He explains how two things, Tension, and Energy, result in you're being upset, happy, content, crabby, and depressed. Read how you can change your moods by having an awareness of how high tension and low energy levels affect you. One of the best books I've every read that has changed my life for all time!
Is this something new?.......1998-09-05
Okay. Exercise, get enough sleep and eat properly. This book took too many pages to tell us the same old thing!
A successful approach to understanding an altering moods........1998-09-01
This book offers a comprehensive review of various antecedents of everyday moods and provides useful information to modify the effects of negative mood states. Reading this book has helped me to understand the relationship between my behavior and my moods, and has given me the knowledge to improve the quality of my relationships with others.

An indispensable tool for change management.......2002-02-18
Change is inevitable. An organization cannot avoid facing change, coming mainly from globalization, competition or mergers. What should be done in such a changing world? This book provides a new guide for an organization on how to adjust to a new environment by managing identity.
It is good for Olins to first clarify us with the terminology: corporate personality, corporate identity, corporate image, corporate reputation and organizational identity, which people usually get confused. I used to think identity is something about branding. But it is more than that! It is in fact the totality of the way the organization presents itself, formed by product, service, environment, communication and behavior, coming together in various proportions, which can help differentiate it from its competitors. The book also talks about how to start up, create, launch and manage the identity program that can lead the organization to success.
This book is very clear, with a great deal of examples quoted form Olins' experience, making it more understandable and interesting. Great!
It is worth reading. I have a better understanding of what identity is and the importance of it in the changing environment.

Powerful Message.......2002-08-15
The Art of Identity deals with the importance of the corporate identity. Extremely well-written and researched. Rowden's book is sure to lead to powerful discussions on his ideas, especially 'firmwords,' a fascinating concept. Of course, a successful corporate identity is quite relevant nowadays, even critical to an organization's success, both on Main Street and Wall Street. The importance of identity is also emphasized in Guerilla PR: Wired, which relies on an examination of how to create and manage an image using the Internet and other technological methods.
Corporate Identity - A New Direction.......2001-07-11
Rowden has produced a major work relating to Corporate Identity; I believe his ideas will prove the foundation for a new direction in the business domain.
His concept of Firmwords will, I am sure, become an established mechanism through which identity can be constructed, remodeled or improved.
This deeply thought provoking book will become a classic for all who enter the business arena not just those involved in the marketing field.
Sharp, practical, deeply thought provoking and strategic.......2001-06-27
Few books live up to their dust jacket. This one does. The publishers at Gower describe it as "Deeply thought-provoking, offering a profound insight into the creation, management and measurement of identity-and into why the right idnetity can transform your organisation". Though I steal their words this is a fair description.
I especially like the 'firm word' principal, I used this myself to great affect.
