Book Description
Having the great idea, creating the magnificent work of art, or coming up with the next fad is only the first step to cashing in on your creativity and hard work. Next up is protecting your intellectual property.
This book is for anyone who is intrigued by those three not-so-little words: patents, copyrights, and trademarks. That means you, if
- You think you might be the next Thomas Edison or maybe another J.K. Rowling
- Your company has recently developed a bold new corporate logo or eye-catching trademark
- You’re thinking of a new concept in software, one that can revolutionize the entire manufacturing process
- You’ve just dreamed up the latest in “latest things”
Patents, Copyrights & Trademarks For Dummies explains, in layman’s terms, the basic nature, function, and application of intellectual property (IP) rights, including how you can acquire those rights, wield them effectively against your competitors, or exploit them lucratively through licensing agreements and other rewarding adventures. This book covers all of these critical concepts, and more:
- Working with IP professionals
- Presenting a patent explanation
- Determining what is copyrighted and what isn’t
- Protecting your commercial identity
- Inspecting the basic elements of a license
- Determining infringement
- Avoiding the ten worst naming blunders
With this book at you side, you’ll have a solid grasp of the processes involved in acquiring, registering, maintaining, and protecting the intellectual property rights due you and/or your company. You’ll be able to make informed decisions and speak confidently with the IP professionals you meet along the way. And you’ll have the tools and knowledge to take care of much of the work involved in the various research and registration processes.

Patents, Copyrights & Trademarks for Dummies.......2007-09-19
I applied for a US Federal Trademark on July 13th and besides putting the (c) on my name and art work... I never thought much about sending in anything to the Copyright office in D.C. End of August a check company contacted me to license my artwork for their checks and address labels... this I knew was big but I needed extra help. A friend suggested this book, I ordered it immediately and wow... it is so super easy to comprehend. I absolutely now swear by this book I've nicknamed the "Artist's Bible." I have found all the tips, etc about copyrighting my art AND about trademark issues extremely valuable. I have actually ear marked several pages so I can go back to that as a reference quickly. And it's also important to have an attorney to fall back on which I do. But yes I highly recommend this book for any artist serious enough to get their work copyrighted or even getting their company name trademarked like me.
Great Resource.......2007-03-29
When I received this book I was blown away by how much useful information it contained. It was easy to read and understand, has quick references that pertain to your subject or you can skip to something more applicable, and was filled with up-to-date information on how to obtain a patent. A great resource!
Great Information for Business Beginners.......2007-03-09
When you think of a product you may be under the impression that I need to patent my invention, but don't have to do anything else. Nothing can be further from the truth. Henri Charmasson spells out clearly in this well written, humorous book how one must wisely go out and protect their intellectual property. He cleverly steers you through the unfriendly and confusing halls of the USPTO - the Patent and Trademark office, and guides you to seeking out the advice of an IP professional, (namely a patent attorney). It is a must read for new business owners, and many established businesses can use the help as well. But after going through the book, you will learn one thing - "Do not to go about patenting and Trademarking by yourself. Get a professional to help you."
Great entry-level book.......2006-06-21
I'm in legal with an IP background and this book is a great IP primer - I was pleasantly surprised by the depth. 'Dummies' is a misnomer as it provides entry-level to intermediate coverage.
Book Description
Whether you’re a CEO or a file clerk, it’s important to understand Sarbanes-Oxley, the post-Enron legislation aimed at keeping corporations honest and ethical. With this trusty book, you’ll get a handle on the important aspects of the legislation, how it affects you and your company, and how companies can comply more cost-effectively. - Institute cost-effective compliance with SOX
- Manage and streamline Section 404 compliance
- Find specific SEC laws and pronouncements
- Interpret media accounts, court cases, and economic projections
- Avoid lawsuits and regulatory actions

Customer Reviews:
Soxcess!.......2007-08-25
The provisions for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance are only mandatory for
public companies that file a Form 10-K with the SEC - however, more and
more companies are being encouraged {pressured?} to voluntarily
comply with SOX - a good example of which is the United States Postal
Service. Why is this? Because in a free market capitalistic society,
there exists a need to bolster investor confidence in the reliability of
publicly reported financial information. No one wants another Enron.
This book does a great job of laying out - soup to nuts - the SOX
landscape and its key provisions. Everything from the AICPA checklist to
WorldCom misconduct, and everything in between (Arthur Andersen
[remember them?], COBIT, COSO, Enron, Kenneth Lay [departed], and Sox
Sections a plenty - presenting an excellent and at times compelling
picture of Sox, how we got here, and where we're going.
SOX was enacted July 30, 2002 - so if you feel the need to rapidly
graduate off the "SOX dummies list" [their title, not mine], then by
all means get this book!, and be a Soxcess!
It's All There.......2007-08-03
Great book. Simple and complete. Sox is explained in easy to understand language. I recommend.
Great for non-financial executives.......2007-06-08
I am a CFO of a public company as well as a partner in a CPA firm. The book was very informative but for me it was 75% stuff I already knew. The software chapter was heplful but seemed biased. The book has several minor technical errors but nothing that would really mislead a novice. I bought 5 more copies to give to my controller, board chairman and a division president, as well as to two clients. My six year old son gets a real kick out of the title and exclaims "Sarbanes Oxley for Dummies!" every time he sees it on my night table (could he be a budding SOX consultant??).
Publisher should read "Printing for Dummies".......2007-06-08
The introduction was good ... then about 30 or 40 pages into the book, the subject suddenly changed to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Yes, somehow the printer put about 40 pages from a different book into this one! Amazon easily accepted the return. But from now on, I will need to touch a "(Fill in the Blank) for Dummies" book before I buy it.
SOX for Dummies.......2007-02-13
This book is great.....very easy read, interesting and informative. It gives you a background on how the stockmarket got started and all the insight since the great depression and the crash through to the scandals of today. It too bad that history does repeat it self.

Customer Reviews:
Not of value to me..........2007-01-09
I purchased the Willmaker Plus CD. The accompanying manual looked a bit thin so I ordered Estate Planning for Dummies to read before getting down to the Willmaker manual and program. Frankly, it was a waste of time and money, as the Willmaker manual and the on-screen help was more concise and better written. I've been happy with several Dummies books, but this isn't one of them.
You would be a dummie to buy this book........2006-06-22
Open this book and you will see that it is formatted and reads like every other textbook you have read since college. The writing makes no attempt to reduce the complexities of the subject. It simply reiterates all the language you never understood in the first place. As the author of "Everything A Baby Boomer Should Know -- An Insider's Guide to Estate Planning," I suggest you compare my book which honestly and easily explains the tools of the probate system, to this book which is impossible to understand if you have no background on the subject.
Its okay but I wanted more-specific information.......2006-01-09
This book gives you general information about Estate Planning but It left me wanting more. I was surprise that it didnt mention anything about AB trust. I wish it would have given the upside and donwnside to each options of wills or trust.
I would have settled for a checklist what to ask your lawyer or accountant considering that he kept harping of always ask your lawyer. Although I see the lawyer point, if I was meeting with a lawyer I would have not wasted 20 dollars and change to read the book.
Many who read books like Dummies want to avoid paying thousands of dollars to a lawyer or as I mention , and if you want me to ask my lawyer at least give me very specific checklist of questions.
If you could, buy it at a discount or borrow it from the library. I probably sell mine on Ebay.
They weren't kidding when they said "for dummies".......2005-04-28
I didn't find this book helpful at all. It just barely skims the surface, and usually concludes with "make sure you talk to your accountant/attorney/estate planner." If I intended to talk to all those folks, I wouldn't waste my time reading this book in the first place. Most of what this book covers could be learned by snooping around the web - and in many cases you can learn more that way. It defines the terminology, but even that is often inadequate. I suggest you check this book out from the local library, and then if you find it to be a useful resource go ahead and buy it. I wish I had done that - I don't feel this book has enough information to really qualify as a reference book.
Are we that dumb?.......2005-02-12
I thought the tone of this book was really patronizing (okay yeah I know it's for 'dummies' but does it need to keep reminding you of that fact constantly?). It's repetitive and ultimately tells you to consult an estate planner anyway--so forget using it to save money to plan your own estate. For a much more directly useful guide to estate planning (with forms you can fill out on a cd-rom), I highly recommend Quicken's Willmaker Plus. You get all the same information as in this book, plus more, and in a much less annoying style. And since it includes the forms for the key documents you need to prepare (e.g., simple will, durable power of attorney, etc.), you may be able to plan your own estate yourself (dummy or not).

Customer Reviews:
Sucked.......2006-05-16
My husband came home with this book last week. I am considering buying a business of great interest to me, but I have next to no experience with retail. He has his doubts about the whole "dummies" series, but thought maybe it would help me. We both found the text to be vague, as I was looking for concrete definitions to some of the unfamiliar business terms which the book did not provide. At the same time, the suggestions for running a small business were ridiculously obvious and downright condescending. The book went back to the store, and I ordered a copy of Specialty Shop Retailing (How To Run Your Own Store) by Carol L Schroeder from my local library. I would HIGHLY recommend this book, and once I finish reading entirely I'll take the time to provide a thorough review. But really, the book has a great layout and it's enjoyable reading.
Small Biz Bible.......2004-12-22
This book has been very useful. The author gives practical tips, advice, checklists and forms - all in an easy to read format. He makes things that seem overwhelming at first suddenly seem manageable. The CD ROM saved me a bundle in legal fees. He seems to know what it is like to have been in the trenches.
Decent book but not for my cause.......2004-08-16
I was toying with the idea of creating an online based business selling educational material and decided to buy this book because I wanted to learn the specifics of running a homebased business. I was searching for facts about taxation, how to get a business liscense, and a directory to web resources. These were in here but with such little detail. Also the book does not tackle small business management like I thought. It explained how to set up a larger business with a board of directors and examples of balance sheets working with millions of dollars in transactions.
I'm just a bit disenchanted because it's not what I was looking for, however, it may be good for someone who is wanting to start a larger corporation. Should be titled something else.
Good, but slowly being replaced by online resources.......2004-01-27
This a good book, don't get me wrong. However, having been edited back in 1998, and being -as it is- largely focused on the documents that you, as a Small Business Owner, are likely to be in need of, it now seems a bit outdated and old-fashioned when you compare if with the ease with which you can get (for free) similar formats (business plans, marketing plans, invoices, etc.) online (in office.microsoft.com > Templates, for instance). It is a good reference of what to look for, though, which is why I give it 4 stars.
Great for those starting their business.......2003-09-27
It's great to see a book written by an attorney who also understands business.
Too many other books out there are written by amateur business people who's real business is in promoting and selling lousy books.
The CD-Rom will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars and time.
Also recommend "The Small Business Kit" and "How to Incorporate in any State" by J.W. Dicks, another attorney and businessman with real world knowledge.
Good luck with your business!

Incorporating your Business for Dummies.......2006-03-18
The book gave a good review of the different types of Incorporation. The type that might be best for any business desired with different requirements and tax advantages of each type. Whether one has partners makes a difference in type needed or whether one wants to sell stock in their company or not.
For a primer it is good but one needs a more in depth knowledge or a tax expert to really get more out of the type of incorporation wanted.
Good as a starter, but you will need more........2004-03-07
Inc for Dummies is not just for dummies, it is a good book on How To Incorporate, but you will need more.
Some additional books icnlude How To Incorporate: A Handbook for Entrpreneurs and Professionals by Michael R. Diamond. How To Incorporate in Any State: Everything You Need to Form a Corporation by W. Dean Brown. S- Corporations by Robert Cooke.
Form Your Own Corporation and Launch a Business in Any State and The Small Business Kit by J.W. Dicks.
Use the dummies book as a starter guide. Use the other books for the real meaty information. Be careful what you buy, the marketplace is proliferated with books by self proclaimed experts who read a lot but have no real world experience.
just the tip of the iceberg.......2004-02-27
In order to maintain the legal status of your corporation, you need to pass very specific resolutions and keep very specific records. I had hoped for a "cookbook" for the legal steps required to set up and operate my corporation, but this is not it.
The info on corporate structures is very basic and general - you could easily find this level of detail on the web. That's my primary complaint with this book... it mentions what you must do, but doesn't give you the specifics of how.
Instead of this book, I recommend you:
(1) Get the *basics* from your lawyer or accountant (or even doing some research on the web)
(2) buy The Corporate Minutes Book by Anothony Mancuso instead of this book!
Good book for those contemplating a corporation.......2004-02-23
If you are contemplating starting a business and therefore a corporation, this book is a great first start. As with all of the dummy series books, the authors feel that people reading these books are brand new and know nothing. So this gives even the most naive a good start on how to incorporate.
So much of the information is basic and since the book was written awhile ago, some of the material may be dated. Nonetheless, good first start for business people.
Other good books include How To Start a S-Corporation by Robert Cooke and Brilliant Deductions by Wade Cook. The latter shows a way to drop out of the social security system and offers a good section on Nevada Corporations.
Okay, but not enough meat.......2003-12-01
I thought that this book was an okay read but left some very important information out especially regarding S-Corporations.
The best book I have found on S-Corporations is How to Form a S-Corporation by Robert Cooke.

Taxes 2007 for Dummies.......2007-08-29
The book covered the basics. Definitely geared to the basics taxpayer
without to intricate of a return. Taxpayers has to have some idea
of what they need to know in order to utilize this book.
Overall Good General Information.......2007-03-08
I bought this book, along with "JK Lasser's 1001 Deductions & Tax Breaks 2007", to get an idea of what to look for in the future for tax reductions.
This book gives a good general overview of most tax deductions and important information regarding taxes. I am not familiar with tax terms and wording. I am more of a math person who is good at doing the calculations required. This book made sense of most of those vague and mysterious terms in regards to taxes that I had no clue what they meant.
I rated this book a 4 based on my purchase of the other book I previously listed. The Dummies book here took longer to explain a tax item. The "1001" book broke it down to the quickest, simplest terms to understand. It may be a "guy" thing, but I liked the meat and bones approach on the "1001" as compared to the fluffed up Dummies explanations.
If I didn't also get the "1001" book, this would have got a 5 Stars.

Great Book for Novices.......2006-03-13
I needed a book that would explain the basics and give me the confidence I needed to draft contracts. This book hit the spot. The author, deftly explains the basics of contracts, boilerplate terms and what not to do. It was simple, funny and very informative. I was specifically looking for information on business sales contracts but found a lot of information about stock purchases, employee contracts etc., things I will need to know more about in the future. The CD was also very helpful with a wealth of document examples. I would heartily recommend this book for others like me, newcomers to the business world. Once you have the basics or wish to delve deeper into the legal jungle then you will need a more indepth text. However for those without a legal background and in need of a concise, easy to understand and informative book on business contracts, this is the book for us.

paralegal career for dummies.......2007-09-28
this is just what I need- very novice at pro se litigation, this is a great help with the basics of law, research and a limited intro to drafting documents
Gotta love the dummies..........2007-07-14
I really enjoy the "Dummie's" line, I actually have a collection of them. I think that they are extremely informative and well written. They break down stuff that people might deem as "common" knowledge, but you'd be suprised how ignorant some are on the topics. I will continue to buy their line and look forward to many new and interesting topics to read about.
Helped My Career.......2007-05-30
As an online paralegal student at the Washington Online Learning Institute, (WOLI) for short, I bought this book towards the end of my certificate program. It was quite useful in putting a lot of information in perspective. I had a course in career preparation at WOLI and this book reinforced and expanded upon that information so the combination of knowledge from WOLI and this book was really powerful. This book is basic, but it is accurate and very useful for someone entering the field. I ended up with a job just two weeks after graduating and this book helped for sure. So I would recommend it. I think it is interesting that Amazon bundles this book with the Statsky paralegal book because we used the Statsky book in three courses at WOLI. So I would recommend both books, actually. This is a good book for a person who is serious about entering the paralegal field, but keep in mind you should really get certified if you want to be truly successful. The days of just learning on the job are pretty much over, especially in terms of advancement in a law firm, which is a valid point made in this book. Recommended.
Excellent buy.......2007-04-17
I am currently a full time paralegal student. I will be graduating in December 2007. This book has covered some of the same information I have learned in my courses. If you are a paralegal student, or someone who may be thinking about going to school to become a paralegal student. I would recommend that you purchase this book. The DVD is superb with example of memo's, briefs, resumes. This is a must have for anyone who is a paralegal for your library reference.. I want to thank the authors of this book so much.
Great resource!.......2006-11-03
This book says it all! I have been instructing paralegal courses for fifteen years, and have seen and used many texts. This one is by far one of the best, if not the best! It clearly and concisely covers pretty much everything a paralegal should know in an easy to understand format. The CD included with the book contains samples of documents and references to many, many important resources. I would highly recommend it for practicing paralegals, as well as anyone interested in the field of paralegalism! While the book is not a substitute for formal education, it goes a long way towards filling in the gaps in education for paralegals trained "in-house," as well as for those who have completed (or plan to complete) a paralegal program.
Book Description
A plain-English primer on crime scene investigation that's a must for fans of CSI or Patricia Cornwell
Since the O. J. Simpson case, popular interest in forensic science has exploded: CBS's CSI has 16 to 26 million viewers every week, and Patricia Cornwell's novels featuring a medical examiner sleuth routinely top bestseller lists, to cite just a few examples. Now, everyone can get the lowdown on the science behind crime scene investigations. Using lots of fascinating case studies, forensics expert Dr. D. P. Lyle clues people in on everything from determining cause and time of death to fingerprints, fibers, blood, ballistics, forensic computing, and forensic psychology. With its clear, entertaining explanations of forensic procedures and techniques, this book will be an indispensable reference for mystery fans and true crime aficionados everywhere-and even includes advice for people interested in forensic science careers.
D. P. Lyle, MD (Laguna Hills, CA), is a practicing cardiologist who is also a forensics expert and mystery writer. He runs a Web site that answers writers' questions about forensics, dplylemd.com, and is the author of Murder and Mayhem: A Doctor Answers Medical and Forensic Questions for Writers, as well as several mystery novels. John Pless, MD, is Professor Emeritus of Pathology at Indiana University School of Medicine and former President of the National Association of Medical Examiners.

Great information, easy to read.......2007-09-04
I'm writing a romantic suspense. I used this book the first day I received it. A great reference, easy to understand and non-forensics-person-friendly.
Really good!.......2006-04-01
This book caught my eye in the library and I plan on buying a copy for my own shelves. It makes an excellent, basic reference book. But,I have many problems with the editing of this book, particularly toward the end (pages 246 and 254); unfortunately, that happens in many, many books: a lazy editor reads half or two-thirds of the work and thinks, this is pretty good, and then drops the entire matter. I have found, as an editor myself, that the second half of a book is usually of poorer quality than the first half. Nevertheless, as a reference, it is a great jumping-off point, if you are so inclined.
Helpful and interesting.......2006-02-28
I am using tis book frequently for reference in my quest to write a series of mysteries. It has been very helpful.
Great starting reference.......2005-03-01
As with all the "for Dummies" books, Forensics for Dummies is a great, quick reference and a wonderful starting point for anyone interested in the field. Written by a doctor and full of information that will surely entice anyone who is a fan of crime investigation shows, the book is laid out well and progresses through the entire method used by forensic scientists.
However, this book is only a starting point for anyone seriously interested in pursuing a career in forenics. It makes a handy reference for writers, as well, but those who are interested in making their crime-oriented stories come to life would do well to find another source for in-depth information.
EDGAR AWARD NOMINEE!!!!!.......2005-02-12
"Forensics for Dummies" has been nominated for an Edgar Award. This is no surprise as it is the very best reference published.
This book will answer all of your questions and entertain you every step of the way!

Book Description
The straightforward guide to surviving and thriving in law school
Every year more than 40,000 students enter law school and at any given moment there are over 125,000 law school students in the United States. Law school’s highly pressurized, super-competitive atmosphere often leaves students stressed out and confused, especially in their first year. Balancing life and schoolwork, passing the bar, and landing a job are challenges that students often need help facing. In Law School For Dummies, former law school student Rebecca Fae Greene uses straight talk, sound advice, and gentle humor to help students sort through the swamp of coursework and focus on what’s important–all while maintaining a life. She also offers rare insight on the law school experience for women, minorities, non-traditional, and non-Ivy League students.

Nothing you probably didn't already know.......2006-10-10
I tend to agree with "PNC2007" on that this is a very generic book on law school admissions and survival. I'm not a law school student (yet) that's why I was looking for some information. Like many For Dummies books, the book tries to be humorous and claims to give you the "insider secrets," but there's really absolutely nothing "secret" about what the author dispenses in way of advice. Want to get into a good law school? She says you need a high LSAT score, a high GPA, a good essay, and good recommendations. Duh. Don't we already know this? I mean, if you didn't already know this, you really shouldn't be even thinking about attending law school. The author spends two or three chapters letting you in on some studying tips. You know what? These ain't tips; they just tell you to "do your homework; organize your studying schedules; study hard." Duh, again. If the message is that law school is really tough, you don't need a 350-page book peppered with bogus humor to learn that.
I really don't think anyone can benefit from this book, except the genuine high-strung types or the real "dummies." Even this law-education dummy finds the book for the most part useless.
Regal Legal Boook.......2005-09-13
John Ventura gives very strong and detailed information for many legal wheelings and dealings. He covers may situations the average person might find him/herself in, and the majority of this book is outstanding. The only problem is that I try to absorb all this knowledge, but it's so detailed that you have to read it more than once to keep it in your head.
Good read, but should look into other topics..........2005-06-19
This book was a good read. It will help calm your nerves before entering the first year of law school. Law 101 was also and excellent book. However, in retrospect, I would concentrate on learning about getting a job (resumes, interviewing, cover letters.) You will be expected start this right around finals time of your first semester. Most people were worried about their first finals and got a late start on this. It is easy to fall behind and once you are there it is difficult to catch up. Most people found that the job search was last on the priority list until after first year classes were over. You will be well ahead of the game if you are prepared for a job search. It will allow you to concentrate more on studying. While the first sumeer jobs aren't crucial they can provide good experience for landing second summer jobs. Also, reading about different law specialties is a good idea. You don't have to know what you want to do going into law school but the sooner you have a direction the better.
Read this book if you're discouraged about law school.......2004-12-23
I just finished my 1L semester, and my grades are starting to trickle in. So far, not so good. But I'm vowing to do better next semester, and I felt this book was very helpful in helping me see what exactly my mistakes were this semester. I bought this book a few days ago, on the recommendation of some 1Ls in my class, because unlike some of these other reviewers, my school's professors do not take the time to explain how to succeed in law school or how to study. Nor am I very friendly with any 2 or 3Ls who could provide me with this information. The reason I picked up this book is because I wanted a thorough and well-spelled out discussion of what exactly law school is all about, since I didn't do much reading on the topic before I started school in the fall. I've read other Dummies books, and felt this one was overall better organized and more thorough than those I've read in the past. I'm making up for lost time now on my winter break by learning more about how to be a better 1L, and I was very satisfied and pleased with this book. I strongly feel I'll be a better student because of it.
I recommend this book highly because I got a great overview of what I need to do better next semester in order to boost my law school GPA (which right now is hovering close to a 2.7). The chapter on "Making the Most of Your Study Time" helped me realize what really should go in an outline and what should not--after reading this chapter I realized I went about my outline all wrong--again, because no one really took the time to sit down with me and explain it all. And the chapter on "Thinking and Talking Like a Lawyer" summed up into words what I couldn't quite put my finger on about law school over the past three and a half months: what exactly the new method of thinking that you're supposed to learn in law school is all about. Up until this book helped elucidate this concept for me, I realized that I really wasn't "getting" what I was supposed to out of the Socratic Method. Now I feel a little more clued in.
This book was full of good tips, such as making me realize that in order to be competitive for summer clerkships, you need to get your cover letters in to the largest and most competitive firms by Christmastime. If it weren't for this book, I wouldn't have known that, because my career services office really doesn't do a good job of letting students know important facts like this. I also appreciated the chapter on "landing your perfect summer job" because it explained what exactly the monetary and prestige differences, among others, are between the large firms and small firms. Perhaps most of all, this book made me feel appreciated. More specifically, I liked the way this book, unlike others I've read, didn't try to sell you on the large firm as the only option for your summer job (or career.) Similarly, this book also did a great job of not trying to sell you on the idea that the law review is a make-or-break-your-legal-career move. See the "Getting Involved in Law School" chapter for reassurance that it's perfectly okay not to end up making the law review, or even wanting to, because there are other valuable EC's out there. I also learned from this chapter that it can be more important to find EC's that are a good fit for your future career plans than to just blindly assume that the law review is the end-all-be-all. That's one aspect that really annoyed me about other law school guidebooks I read--the subtle or not-so-subtle theme that you must be in the top 10% of your class, on law review, and a summer associate at a big-name firm to "make it" as a lawyer. I appreciated the fact that Greene's book didn't make these assumptions, and liked the way non-traditional uses of the J.D. were thoroughly explored (see the Considering Alternative Legal Careers chapter) unlike other books, which just gives a nod to this equally valid way of using your J.D.
As per the Dummies tradition, this book spells things out for you, and many intelligent and hard-working students, like myself, need that. My recommendation for other law students is to read this book to get a good overview of law school and to help you better find your place when you're lost. I think other law school guidebooks can also valuable, but if you're looking for a more user-friendly guide, and one that has a more liberal tone than the other much more conservative law school books I've read, then look to this book to once and for all finally understand what law school is all about and your place in it.
Generic overview of law school .......2004-12-19
I wasn't impressed by this book at all. After my first semester in LS, everything this author suggests the law professors and 2Ls and 3Ls will tell you. I mean, it is a quick and easy read, but it's a waste of money. I bought the book after reading the 5 star recs here and I was mad at everyone who said it was worth something once I finished it. I would recommend, Law School Confidential, and Planet Law School II. Unless you have a whole bunch of extra time and money lying around, skip this book!
