Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Santa Fe-style decorating is a coast-to-coast trend. Hundreds of thousands have scoured Christine Mather’s previous books, eager to incorporate Santa Fe design elements into their own homes. Now, in Santa Fe Houses, Mather combines concrete and practical home-decorating suggestions with the beautiful photographs of her longtime collaborator, Jack Parsons, creating an invaluable guide for anyone interested in building, decorating, or remodeling a home in Santa Fe style.

Santa Fe Houses draws inspiration from the four traditional Native American elements—fire, earth, water, and air—and shows how they can be used to wonderful effect in kitchens and dining rooms, entry-ways and living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, porches, and patios. Along the way, Mather showcases furniture, rugs, lighting, hardware, tiles, shutters, and other expressions of the Santa Fe look, and ends with a comprehensive directory of sources.

Wonderful. They are not all mansions, not all ethnic, just so well and individually done. I keep it on my coffee table with others in the same genre` and my guests have trouble putting it down.

Great!

We are building a 4000 sq. foot straw bale home in Oakville, Ontario Canada in an adobe style. There is NOTHING in Ontario to act as inspiration and we must rely on our numerous trips to New Mexico and Arizona to inspire us in the design of our home. This book had some lovely photos that got our imaginations stirred so we would recommend it to others in our circumstance. A good book if you need inspiration and you're miles away from the southwest. Most of the photographs are well shot and beautiful. It is amongst the many books we've ordered from this site and is one of the biggest, thankfully.

5 out of 5 stars "The practical cabinetmaker".......2007-08-13

This book is a must for "New Guys" to be on your shelf, and give you a quick reference. It is jamb packed with information! It is non-technical, practical and written by a technical guy. There are many things I have learned in "fixing things" and I come up with novel ways of doing it, but this guy is good! If you work with both hand tools and power tools, as I do, you may neglect a tool and find it rusty. Inside this book is alchemey magic for the small shop. Reversing the rusting process! Each page has something for us. It also tells me why, and if I want more, the facts behind it. Only one draw back, but it probably kept the cost of this book affordable. I'd like it to be on better paper, and have a few more pictures of what the project or technique looks like, so I can have a visual reference point.

Michael Dresdner begins this updated edition of a previous classic in the field with these words: "I know. You hate finishing. You'd really rather be cutting wood. But you want the stuff you make to last, so it needs a finish on it." These are words from a man who knows woodworking and woodworkers.

The final finishing of carpentry projects and cabinet making is critical to the good results of any woodworking project, and yet, if done improperly, it can also be the kiss of death for an otherwise well-made piece of furniture, a refinished wood floor, or handmade wooden artwork.

Wood finishing is often a confusing and intimidating process, especially for beginners. With this revised classic by one of the noted experts in the field of wood finishing, that needn't be the case anymore. Dredsner offers easy-to-use techniques for professional results, concise answers to the most commonly asked questions, information on spray finishing and new waterborne finishes, and demystifies the art and science of finishing. Chapters cover tools of the trade, stripping techniques, preparing wood, coloring wood, rubbed-on finishing methods, repairing damage to already-finished wood, and much more, along with a resource list for tools and materials, a glossary of finishing terms, and a useful index for quick reference. The original edition of this book was considered the definitive classic: this one's better. --Mark A. Hetts

      Book Description

Anyone who finishes wood will want to own the updated and completely revised version of the highly acclaimed Wood Finishing Book. With new, full-color photos and design, expanded information, and updates on technological advances in finishing, it's a must-have reference. The focus is on finishes that amateur woodworkers and finishers use -- not fussy, unattainable finishes. The author demystifies the art and science of finishing with clear and up-to-date information, including coverage of spray finishing and the new generation of water-based finishes. Insightful Q&As provide answers to the most common finishing questions. Amusing "Finishing Tales" show the lighter side of finishing challenges. The original book is considered the definitive resource on finishing, and this new edition is even better.

It is a pleasure to read this book. Not only is the author an authority, but his style is very readable. The print is easy on the eyes and the illustrations are complete and helpful. Simple explanations of a complex subject. Very helpful for a beginner, but also a helpful reference when problems develope or specific instructions are needed. Well edited. Highly recommended.

The is a very complete book if you want to do anything to a piece of wood but paint it. 5 million ways to stain and repair damage to stained furniture. If you are looking for a reference to get a professional painted finish this is NOT the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent information in an easy to read format.......2000-09-27

This book contains all the information needed to make informed decisions about finishing, repairing damaged finishes, and hiding blemishes. Michael Dresdner is a personal friend and lives just a few minutes away from me. I have learned enough from him and his books over the years that many of my friends now come to me for finishing advice! Michael's book presents what many see as a dry subject, in an entertaining, informative, and easy to read manner. My copy is already getting the dog-eared, much used look of a cherished resource book. If you had to pick only one resource, The New Wood Finishing Book is the clear choice. I won't even loan mine to friends!

2 out of 5 stars The New Wood Finishing Book.......2000-06-10

I ordered Michael Dresdner book, "The New Wood Finishing Book" to only find it to be a dissappointing book. It was very vague and really only touch the surface of finishing and refinishing. I bought this book because it is an updated finishing book. The first book I bought is Bob Flexner's book, "Understanding Wood Finishing." This book I would rate "5+ stars", it is very detailed in all applications of wood finishing and refinishing. I am not an expert in woodworking, yet I am not a beginner either and do consider myself very experience in woodworking with over 20 yrs of experience and owning my own business www.rcwoodworksonline.com. But as I said I don't claim to know it all yet! So I enjoy reading from the experts on their technics.

Please don't take me wrong Mr.Dresdner's book contained some good information. As mentioned before I bought this book because it is an updated version for wood finishing. Bob Flexner's book was first printed 1994 and at that time water based finishes and strippers were just starting to be used and he had little information about them. So I was looking for a book that addressed water based finishes and the new types of strippers. Michael Dresdner's book did this but only in an overview form. His book never went into detail on what finishes or strippers worked for certain kinds of commonly used woods. Nor the break down of certain brands of stippers or finishes as Bob Flexner's book did.I believe this is important steps in knowing what applications are best for the wood you are using."Understanding Wood Finishing" may have a copyright date of 1994 and lack some updates on new finishes, but the detailed information it contains on all steps of wood finishing is timeless.

"In a dark, dark wood, / there was a dark, dark house" begins this well-known ghost story with its dramatic build-up and Eek!-producing finale. Paper engineer David A. Carter (Bugs in Space, The Elements of Pop-up) enhances the traditional tale with his own spooky paintings of the dark, dark house and its dark, dark mysteries along with a green ghost that pops up at the end. This story takes less than a minute to read aloud from cover to cover, so don't get too cozy. A good Halloween gift for kids who like to be just a tiny, tiny bit scared. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HALLOWEEN BOOK.......2005-10-28

My 5 and 3 year old absolutely LOVE this book. They have now memorized it and "read" it to me. It is a must-have for anyone looking for a good Halloween story. We have read it nightly for the past 2 months and the kids never get tired of it!

3 out of 5 stars This book is not for kids who are in pre-school........2003-10-15

It is a really cute book, but do not read it to very young kids or kids who have a propensity toward nighmares. The publishers would have you believe that this book is targeted for kids from 3 to 6 years old, but it is best suited for late 4s +. I read this to my 3 year old, not knowing the end was a pop-up picture of a goulish green ghost. It's given her nightmares.

5 out of 5 stars Super Book...Any Time of Year.......2003-07-03

I teach first grade and my students couldn't get enough of this book! It's very short, and just a tiny bit scary...especially in the dark! It's a cute story, one your kids will surely love!

5 out of 5 stars The biggest hit in the Kindergarten class........2002-11-02

My 5 year old's entire Kindergarten class has wanted to hear this story over and over. The class was so enthralled by this wonderfully spooky little story with a big surprize at the end, that the teacher used the storyline as a Halloween craft project. The story is very quick to read, and so easy that a pre-schooler can have it memorized in no time. Your little ones will be thrilled when they can "read" it to you complete with the "scary" ending.
Perfect for 3 to 6 year olds.

4 out of 5 stars Great book for Halloween or anytime. 4yr. olds +........1999-11-15

I have been reading stories to Head Start pre-schoolers for four years and children LOVE this book! The sentences are easy for them to repeat and the three dimensional figure that pops out at the end of the book thrills the children every time!

      5 out of 5 stars Concrete Dreams.......2000-12-22

Lawson Drinkard takes old wood, makes new homes and sets dreams in concrete. As with his first book, RETREATS, Drinkard tantalizes readers with stories-and beautiful photographs- proving that people can make their housing visions come true. Yet the book is packed with lots of "news to use." His tips on finding housing materials and working through zoning processes are priceless. This isn't just a book for the skilled craftsperson but for anyone who dares to set dreams in motion.
