Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars If you must study research, this is a good tool to use.......2007-09-16

Nursing research is a rather dry topic, and therefore difficult to study unless you're really interested. This book (and the accompanying CD-ROM)make understanding all the jargon and concepts more palatable and user-friendly.

3 out of 5 stars "Review of the Literature" chapter really weak.......2007-06-01

The book is well laid out and easy to follow but the "Review of the Literature" section was not helpful. A large part of evidence-based practice is learning how to search the research databases and analyzing the articles retreived. This is glossed over at best. The search examples within the text were way too basic (Who searches on just the word "coping" ?) This section is in desperate need of a research librarian's input.

Great layout, summary at the end of each chapter. The each chapter begins with a list of outcome goals and terms with page numbers. CD with text is a great reference with quizzes and exams. The accompany website has additional test questions, quizzes and crosswords puzzles for each chapter. (Offers more then some other text on the website). Very glad my instructor chose this text.

Book Description

This textbook explicitly links understanding of nursing research with evidence-based practice, and focuses on how to read, critique, and utilize research reports. Organized around questions students have when reading reports--how the conclusions were reached, what types of patients the conclusions apply to, how the study was done, and why it was done that way--the text explains the steps of the research process to answer these questions. Chapters include clinical vignettes, highlighted key concepts, and out-of-class exercises. Appendices present a variety of research examples. This edition includes significant new material on evidence-based practice and more distinction between qualitative and quantitative research.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Last Word. N.T. Wright........2007-03-26

In this volume, N.T. Wright's two anchoring themes are (1) the authority of Christian canon, i.e., as a standard measure, and (2) the imperfection of our understanding of the canon, i.e., the importance of humility in cooperating with scripture's philology in finding its intent. Knowledge of scripture is, in many instances, permanently tentative (as is scientific knowledge) and proceeds along lines that are better recognized as being iterative and partial than immediate or whole. Christian humility and 'teachability' demands as much, as do the ubiquitous exegetical disputes and the inherent subtleties and mysteries of ancient texts whose impulsion was 'beyond' its human penmen. To paraphrase this view in my own clumsy way - "stop pretending you've got it all figured out and start studying so as to be taught, instead of 'studying' to support your delusions of final insights." With apologies to Wright for my paraphrase, I heartily agree with him. It's a bit interesting that Wright chose the title that he did; by it he can only mean that "the Last Word" is the final import of scripture, not that he, or anyone else, can provide a final interpretation or exposition of the Last Word.

Wright on the relationship of Christian scripture and Christian tradition: "The challenge of living with tradition is not so much, as in official Roman Catholic understandings, that one should let tradition and scripture flow together straightforwardly into a single stream, but that tradition should be allowed to be itself; that is, the living voice of the very human church as it struggles with scripture, sometimes misunderstanding it and sometimes gloriously getting it right. That is why the challenge comes fresh to each generation. Traditions tell us where we have come from. Scripture itself is a better guide as to where we should now be going." p 119

It is true that some of Wright's work is a kind of flash-point in some scholarly circles, Christian and otherwise -- too orthodox for some, too liberal for others, not Calvinist enough for the heavy-handed determinists, not Roman enough for the 'one true church' audience, and so forth. But all of this speaks to the level-headed carefulness of his theology and biblical scholarship. If, on some point(s) you find that you disagree with Wright, I hope that you can do so with the intellectual openness and spiritual humility that characterize this author; if you are a Bible-thumping know-it-all, then you need this book more than most of us do. Thank God for N.T. Wright.

4 out of 5 stars A Concise Exposition of Anglican Theological Thinking.......2007-03-09

N. T. Wright continues to be a voice of centrist sense within the roil of contemporary Christian controversies. This clear, concise exposition of the traditional Anglican "via media" is a very useful primer, or refresher, on how Anglicans balance the threads of Scripture, Tradition, and human reason. The objective is to understand how to live out the Christian call, and how to understand timeless lessons in a rapidly changing world. I've loaned my copy to several friends across the Christian belief spectrum as a clear and fairly concise summary of how my branch of Christ's church lives in to our call.

4 out of 5 stars A good but brief treatment on the authority of scripture.......2007-01-30

Tom Wright wrote an article "How can the bible be authoritative" for Vox Evangelica in 1991. This book flushes out the themes in more detail and provides some more historial context. The title might be a bit misleading since a "new understanding" could mean recovering an older understanding. My perspective is that the title is not as alarming as it sounds. What I have always appreciated about Tom Wright is that he is able defend his orthodox christian views using rigorous academic methods. Sure, he is often critized by both sides. So the conservative christians accuse him of not being fully orthodox, while the academics accuse him of compromising his rigor due to his personal faith. Regardless of one's theology position, this book should be a worthwhile read. A more detailed treatment is contained in "NT and the people of god". It is only in my second reading that I am appreciating and starting to understand the book. So for those of you who would like more depth, I would recommend "NT and the people of god". If you are interested in the subject of the authority of scripture, you might also be interested in reading more on narrative theology and the emerging/emergent church movement.

Happy reading.

4 out of 5 stars Wright is Worth the Read!.......2007-01-24

Wright cuts through the noise in the North American biblical scholarship debate. He knocks the legs out from under "conservatives" and "liberals" and offers us a solid foundation of good hermeneutics. He explains why both "sides" are missing the mark and how we can get back on the right track. Good book!

Read Paul: In Fresh Perspective for a better glimpse into N.T. Wright's wonderful contributions and insights into New Testament scholarship.

3 out of 5 stars A Bit Thin.......2007-01-12

Having read his thoroughly naratived approach in Jesus and the Victory of God I was expecting something more substanial. Given that most reading of the scriptures is first devotional and personal the corporate/hierarchical conclusion seemed lopsided.

5 out of 5 stars Everything about ammunition.......2007-09-07

I found this book very informative and readable. Has the maths formulae in simplified forms; leaves out the insignificant factors. Debunks many of the popular myths about projectile behaviour. A great reference to be returned to again and again.

4 out of 5 stars Understanding Firearm Ballistics.......2006-07-22

I am an engineer and found this book to be a fundamental but comprehensive treatment of interior, exterior, and terminal ballistics. There is much detailed information within the book and technical principles are explained in the text along with some basic algebra. The book could use a comprehensive edit from a scientist, especially a physicist, to clean up some of the technical explanations offered by the author; because I suspect he doesn't always have a deep understanding of the processes he is explaining. While not inaccurate, some of his discourse is difficult to follow and sometimes left unclear with numerous incomplete sentences which are sometimes annoying. Still this is a decent treatment of ballistics and I have learned from reading it. I would recommend it to others.

4 out of 5 stars Good Book.......2005-07-29

This book reads like a text book for a trade school. That's not a bad thing, but no credible editor has ever worked on this book. It needs to be edited, but having said all that, its a very good book for someone interested in ballistics that has no knowledge of the subject, and is not a snooty English teacher. Want a great book on ballistics for the beginner, this is it, and skip all the math as he suggests. Math of this type is for looking up, not reading, and when you're done you'll have a great reference manual.

5 out of 5 stars A must have.......2005-01-17

If you're a shooter, you simply need to have a fundamental knowledge of ballistics. This work gives you the opportunity to either skim and pick up key informatipon, or alternatively, delve into the deep science and math. It belongs in every firearms enthusiasts collection. It's not any easy read; it makes you think. You won't read it once; you'll refer back to it again and again. I don't know of any other ballistics book I would recommend over Rinker's.

3 out of 5 stars Don't buy nor read this book..........2005-01-12

Don't buy nor read this book (if you didn't flunk math ofcourse, then it is valuable). It provides far less information than Robet McCoy's book on the subject. The only part I found at least amusing was the preface, it described ballistics in an almost erotic way. But if you want to know the details about the forces acting on an airborn projectile - forget this title!

Book Description

Understanding People

“Every attempt to help people must first begin with an effort to understand people,” says Dr. Larry Crabb. “And the only fully reliable source of information on that topic is the Bible.” In this Gold Medallion Award-winning classic, Dr. Crabb affirms the power of the Scriptures to address the intricacies and deep needs of the human heart.

Exploring the inseparable link between spiritual and psychological realities, Understanding People offers a vital lens on how we’re put together—who we really are and what makes us tick in our relationships with other people, with God, and with ourselves. In three parts, this book first points us to the Bible as our source of insight into perplexing heart issues. Then it helps us come to grips with our brokenness as God’s image-bearers, and it shows how we can reclaim our ability to reflect him in our growth toward maturity and healed relationships.

4 out of 5 stars Good Guide for Better Understanding People.......2005-07-14

Even though I am not a professional counselor like the author, I did find the title to be an informative read on human nature. The book covers basic Christian viewpoints of human nature: we are fallen and yet are on a search for deep and lasting fulfillment.

The book is divided into 3 major areas:

1. A Sufficient Bible - Finding answers in scripture.
2. Understanding People - A tarnished image and broken relationships.
3. Growing Toward Maturity - A restored image and healed relationships.

The book covers principles such as:

1. Different positions on how the Bible addresses problems.
2. Describing human nature (we are emotional, free to choose, personal, can truly change).
3. How we and our relationships can be improved (move out of an emphasis on self-protection from pain and become more involved in other people's lives, realize that pain is a normal in life and we should not expend too much energy trying to feel good, and realize that Christ is our sufficiency).

Understanding People is an enjoyable read and is recommended for the professional counselor, minister, or anyone who wants to know more about human nature from a Christian worldview.

5 out of 5 stars The Nature of Human Nature.......2005-05-09

"Understanding People" marked something of a turning in Crabb's writing and ministry. In some of his previous works such as "Effective Biblical Counseling" and "Basic Principles of Biblical Counseling," Crabb focused more on integrating biblical and psychological concepts. With "Understanding People," Crabb emphasizes a biblical model of the "imago Dei" (the capacities of the image of God in human nature).

The first section, consisting of four chapters on the sufficiency of Scripture, is perhaps the most vital material in the book. Crabb logically, practically, and biblically states his well-thought-through model of the Scriptures as a foundation for Christian counseling.

The bulk of the book then focuses on the nature of human nature. Here Crabb describes the four fundamental capacities of the human personality: we are relational (we long), rational (we think), volitional (we purpose), and emotional (we feel).

Interestingly, some have criticized Crabb's teaching on relational longings, stating that no one in Church history prior to Crabb made longings an aspect of the "imago Dei." These folks should read more Church history. Augustine, Bernard of Clairvaux, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Baxter, Edwards, and so many more stalwarts of the Christian faith, not only taught about religious affections and relational longings, they taught that they were essential components of the human personality as designed by God.

One could wish that "Understanding People" said more about our physicality and the inner-play between mind and body. One could also wish for more "how to" based upon the excellent insights into our inner nature. However, no one book can do it all. "Understanding People" does successfully meet it's primary goal of providing a biblical psychology of human nature--in it's original glory, fallen depravity, and redeemed dignity.

Reviewer: Dr. Robert W. Kellemen is the author of "Soul Physicians: A Theology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction," "Spiritual Friends: A Methodology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction," and the forthcoming "Sacred Companions: A History of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."

5 out of 5 stars Read it for a healthier view of yourself and others.......2002-02-15

Crabb sets forth the idea that our deep longings for true relationship inevitably lead to pain and hurt. Attempts to avoid the pain of sorrow, disappointing relationships, or conflicts rob us of the experience of our true humanness. In reality, these circumstances can push us on to a deeper awareness of our dependency on God, which in turn frees us to love ourselves and others as fallen, not-yet-glorified human beings. Though the book is intended to assist counselors and others who facilitate change in others, it also offers many insights for anyone who is seriously interested in understanding human behavior.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book, very informative, flows easily.......2001-07-10

I was required to read this book for my Biblical Foundations of Counseling class, and I am so glad I actually read it! This book seriously helps you understand the workings of your own mind and even if you don't have deep rooted issue, you still are able to understand things like your thought process better! I recommend anyone who wants to understand the way sinful humans think to read this book! I loved it! I hate to read and I couldn't put it down! If you like to read interesting books(cause usually one likes to read boring books) read this one! Crabb has done it again!
