Book Description
This outstanding, comprehensive review resource provides the necessary tools to prepare for the Adult Nurse Practitioner certification exam, with over 1,000 multiple-choice review questions based on the actual exam content and format. Clinical chapters are organized by body system, and are subdivided into three sections: Physical Exam and Diagnostic Tests; Disorders; and Pharmacology. Answers and rationales are provided at the end of each chapter. Other chapters include test questions that focus on growth and development, general health supervision and maintenance, and professional competencies inherent in the role of the ANP. A new CD-ROM contains all of the questions from the book to generate an unlimited number of 175-question sample exams designed to match the length and question distribution of the actual ANP certification exams.

AANP.......2006-09-22
Well I just passed my boards(AANP) today and I owe it to this book. This was 75-80% of my prep. I did 1-2 full exams daily for a week and passed. I did have another book that only had about 400 questions, but after the first test, I would get repeat questions everytime. This was helpful because of the rationales and the questions are true representations of the actual test. I would recommend this book 100%. Good Luck!
The only review book you will need.......2006-09-03
The questions in this book are very similar to what the actual boards are like. I only found a couple of errors and those were in how the answers were coded (correct answer, wrong corresponding number). The CD is very useful although I did notice that there were some questions that were on every "random" test.
This book was very helpful and it was my primary resource in studying for my exam (which I passed).
adult nurse practitioner certification review book.......2006-08-20
The review book is very detailed and helpful at the same time. It made me think alot about the different disease states and really prepared me for my final exam. I would recommend this review book to anyone who has difficulty taking tests, it really helps to get you in the thinking mood for an exam!!
Very Useful.......2006-08-01
I purchased several review books (about 6) to help me study for the AANP Adult Nurse practitoner exam that I took and passsed in June 2006. Needless to say, I probably bought too many review books but I thought I could use all the extra help since it was almost 4 years since I gradauted from the adult NP program and decided to take the exam. This book was my 2nd favorite book to use, especially the review questions in the CD the book came with. The questions were similiar in format as the AANP exam. My only caution is that some of the answers in CD practice exam did not correspond with the explanation answer. I would highly recommend Fitzgerald's review CD/manual and her review book, Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation as the best review source. Fitzgerald would get 5 stars.
excellent.......2005-11-10
covers all areas I passed the exam and this book was very helpful, I went through it twice after listening to fitzgerald cd's

Too many mistakes.......2007-09-21
There are so many errors throughout this book that I fear for the less informed reader. I disagreed with most of her answers but the good thing was that it forced me to look up the information to verify that indeed I was correct and this author was WRONG! I cannot believe that this book was published and am tempted to write to the publisher. I hope the author reads all of these comments because she needs to go through her own "book" and look up each topic and LEARN the correct responses. Unbelievable and I too wish there were negative stars because I did not want to even give her one star.
I can't believe that this book was published.......2007-07-17
This review book had too many wrong items. The questions are way too detailed and caused undue stress with its practice tests. The CD accompanyings this book only has 400+ questions on it and it does not supply rationale for the questions on the CD. There are several errors in the questions and a few questions in the book have different answers than the CD. Do yourself a favor do not buy this book.
I Know a Bad Book When I See One!!.......2007-06-23
I wish you allowed for negative stars, because this book really deserves one. I purchased four review books and saved this one until last. Thank goodness the other three were really good, because this one is so bad!! I might overlook the numbering sequence errors and the mixed up order of the rationales, but the errors in the questions are unconscionable. Take question number 6-83 and I quote:
Your clinet Casey, a 69-year-old chronic smoker, has called you to find out the results of his recent chest x-ray, which you ordered because of his increasingly troublesome chronic cough. You have seen a large shadow on the chest x ray and you suspect it is a carcinoma. You should say the following to Casey:
A. "I need you to come in to the office to discuss your chest x-ray results."
B. "I have seen an area on your chest x ray that concerns me."
C. "Please let me speak to your wife."
D. "I saw something on your chest x-ray that we need to follow up on, but I am sure it will be all right."
According to the authors of the book the correct answer is "C" which indicates that they have never even heard of HIPPA!!!!!
Or how about question 2-26? And I quote:
When performing a history and physical examination on Jason, age 16, he tells you that although he does not smoke, he uses snuff (smokeless tobacco). He says that he wants the nicotine "high" but does not want it to become a habit like cigarette smoking. What should you tell him about smokeless tobacco?
A. It may lead to mouth or throat cancer.
B. It can cause gum recession, which may lead to the loss of teeth.
C. If continued, it becomes a habit that is difficult to break, just like cigarette smoking.
D. It is less dangerous than cigarette smoking.
According to the author the correct answer is "D" so we can only assume that getting mouth or throat cancer is better than getting lung cancer.
I am glad that I purchased this as a used book, because it is a total waste of time and money. I plan to throw it away. I wouldn't wish this book on another person. I am one of the top students in my NP program, and I know a bad book when I see it.
Don't waste your time or money.......2006-12-04
This book contains a lot of review questions. Unfortunately, a great number of them are far more detailed than necessary for entry level practitioners, and frequently provide answers that are just plain wrong. Several of my classmates and I, who went through our FNP program with excellent averages, were terrified we would flunk the certification exam after doing dismally on the practice tests in this book. After putting this book aside and studying from the Fitzgerald review course material and her review book, we each passed the AANP exam with flying colors. I would not recommed this book to anyone.
Maybe consider this book.......2006-10-04
I used this book along with other books to study for the ANCC FNP certification exam (and passed). Many of the questions were VERY specific and would never be tested on a certification exam. I also found that there were some questions that seemed to be related to bedside nursing or inpatient care. The testing strategies at the beginning are helpful. However, taking these exams did get me frustrated because I consistenly scored below 78% on each exam. I found that there was very useful information in the question rationales. Practicing tons of questions was helpful in studying for the exam. I would recommend this book, but beware of the typos and know that you probably won't get great scores on the practice tests.

NP review book.......2007-04-07
All future nurse practioners need to purchase this book. Not only does it help with studying for NP certification but has really been a life saver in NP classes
Hollier's FNP review.......2007-03-31
This book is great! Recently, I purchased this book to help me study for weekly quizzes and for the mid-term exam. I found Hollier's book to be very beneficial along with 2 other texts....I made a perfect score!!
WELL PLEASED.......2007-02-22
I am currently studying for the family nurse practitioner certification exam and I am utilizing the information in the book while finishing my current clinical rotation. The information is well written and concise. The sections have pharmacology sections which break down drugs used to treat certain conditions. I have found the information in Hollier's practice test book just as informative.
Very Helpful.......2006-10-17
I have thoroughly utilized this book for review. It is fantastic and well written. It is concise and provides all key aspects for each illness that includes definition, etiology, risk factors, etc. Great sections on Adult and pediatric health promotion, screening; primary, secondary, and tertiary. This type of format illicts my retaining information due to the inclusion of only what you need to know....leaving out extraneous informtion that can bog you down. I highly recommend this book and the Practice exam book by her.
I have Fitzgerald's review, and while good, Hollier's style of presentation of information fits my learning style.
Not Helpful.......2006-06-26
I was disappointed in this book. The chapter material was not well organized or comprehensive. Also, there were no sample questions which after successfully taking the FNP certification test is the key to passing. I would not recommend this book.
Book Description
This book is a comprehensive study and review tool for preparing for the ANP Certification Examination. For each area on the exam, the review book contains bullets of key information, enhanced by illustrations and tables to further explain concepts and highlight pertinent data. Multiple choice questions follow each section of the review book. Answers for all these questions, complete with rationales, are given in the back of the book. A comprehensive bibliography divided by subject area is included to facilitate further review of specific topics. A separate chapter on test-taking strategies and tips for studying is also provided.

Fine for reviewing areas of weakness.......2003-10-28
I concur with the previous reviewer that the publishers should have been more careful to verify that the Q&A's were accurate and matched with one another. The content of the book is overall very thorough...FAR more so than needed for taking the exam (the AANP version which I passed today!). If you have this book, DO NOT go through it cover to cover as your main source of review, but, use it as an adjunct for areas of weakness. The CDRom was disappointing as each subject area had less than 15 questions. I strongly recommend taking a review course to focus more on general principles. Good luck to all!
ANP Review.......2003-05-26
This was the most frustrating review book I've ever used. The information appears to be concise, organized and complete, but the review questions and answers leave a lot to be desired. In one section, 10 questions were left unanswered. In several others, answers were there, but didn't match the questions (in numerical order). Many times the answer was written correctly but aligned with the wrong letter. The CD ROM was good, but several answers did not jive with information given in the book. All in all, this could have been a great review book if ANYone had bothered to proof read it before going to print. Very dissapointed, and I'd like a refund.
Book Description
This book is the second edition of the "Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification Study Question Book" It can be used alone or in conjunction with the "Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide". Test questions in the study question book differ from those in the review guide. This book has a total of 300 questions with answers and rationale and bibliographic reference. The questions in both books are representative of those found on the certification examinations offered for the adult and family nurse practitioner (ANCC and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners)
Customer Reviews:
really unhelpful..........2003-10-17
I just took (and passed!) the adult AANP computer based certification test...and I feel compelled to write a review of this study guide: the questions in this book did not reflect, in any way, questions on the exam. Even worse, the questions in the book were so esoteric and difficult, it almost lead me to believe I didn't at all prepare well enough...when in fact I had. I highly recommend the "ANP cert. review" book by Zerwekh, Claborn and Carter (Eds.)...it closely resembles the AANP adult exam, and was an excellent guide in terms of letting me know what areas I needed to study more, and which areas I was well versed in.
Excellent review book!.......2003-06-28
I purchased this to study for the AANP exam and was very well prepared. The questions were very close to the exam ones. Definitely buy this book and you will be well prepared for your adult certification exam.
Worth the money.......2002-09-07
I bought this book and also attended a review course taught by Sally Miller. She focuses on what you really need to know to do well on the Adult NP exam. Many of the questions in this book were similar to those in the test. By purchasing this book and borrowing another prep book (FNP based) from a friend, I was well prepared for the exam and did quite well. Best of luck!
Excellent Study Guide.......2002-03-03
This is an excellent review and study guide for the ANCC family nurse practitioner examination. I recommend it to all new graduates and others that are preparing for the certification exam.
Book Description
There is an error on one of the pages that displays the cover of this new edition of the "Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide" which has a sentence above the image of the book that says "This sample page is from the Paperback edition (1999)" The sample page has not yet been shown, but the major problem is that the date should be "2005" not 1999.

Certification Prep.......2000-10-31
I used the set to prepare for the American Academy Certification Exam. The questions in the book seemed to be about the same difficulty as the ones on the exam. I liked how each chapter began with a review. When the time got closer and cramming began, I just skimmed the chapters and questions.
Product Description
This 2 volume set for the FamilyNurse Practitioner provides a comprehensive content outline format with emphasis on major theories, diagnoses, treatment modalities and nurse practitioner interventions. There are 1090 test questions and extensive biboiography which follows each chapter. This is an absolute must for those sitting for certification examinations as well as a reference for those who are certified and in a practice setting . This is the 4th edition of this popular set.

Excellent review course.......2000-05-24
Case studies are an excellent method of preparing one to pass the certification exam. This text does an excellent job in going beyond the classroom training to application of medical science to actual cases. Support of text's recommendations are well referenced.
