Book Description
An easy-to-use guide to building codes for healthcare facilities
The construction industry is evolving a single set of international building codes. Now, more than ever, architects need an interpretive guide to understand how the building code affects the early design of specific projects. One in a series of focused guides to building codes from Wiley, this book familiarizes code users with the 2006 International Building Code(r) (IBC) as it applies to healthcare facilities.
Early understanding and incorporation of code-compliant design provisions in a project is essential. This book provides healthcare design professionals--architects, engineers, and other related design professionals--with an understanding of how the International Building Code was developed, and how it is likely to be interpreted when applied to the design and construction of healthcare facilities.
Building Codes Illustrated for Healthcare Facilities features:
* A user-friendly visual format that makes finding the information you need quick and easy
* Nearly 900 illustrations, by architectural illustrator Steven Juroszek in the style of noted illustrator and author Frank Ching, that help visualize and explain the codes
* Text written by experienced experts who have been instrumental in gaining acceptance for the new unified building code
* A guide to navigating the new code plus complete coverage of all key aspects of the IBC
The newly adopted International Building Code is similar but by no means identical to the three model codes that most practitioners have used in the past. Building Codes Illustrated for Healthcare Facilities is an essential companion to the IBC for emerging practitioners seeking to master the full scope of accepted knowledge in the field, and for experienced practitioners needing to understand the similarities and differences between the familiar model codes and the new IBC.
Customer Reviews:
Very Disappointing.......2007-05-03
This book contains very little healthcare specific code information. During my first round flipping through the book, I did not manage to notice any information on healthcare code issues. Upon further inspection, I did manage to find a few healthcare related items... but nothing even close to being useful - or worth the price of the book, for that matter.
This book seems to be simply a repackaging of the book "Building Codes Illustrated," by some of the same authors - which I own as well. The table of contents for both books are nearly identical. Non of the chapters have anything healthcare related in their titles. Most of the graphics appear to be straight out of "Building Codes Illustrated" as well. The index contains more references to subjects such as "brick expansion joints," "cripple studs," and "concrete piles" than it does to anything healthcare specific. Disappointing, to say the least.
If you are looking for industry specific code information, this is NOT your book. This is an unfortunate mislabeling/retitling.

Book Description
Whether you intend to add flair to your office presentation or charm to your model train set, this book will give you professional insight into designing and producing architectural models--with truly spectacular results. This book is a primer for the design, construction, and presentation of the three-dimensional model from conceptual drawings. Ideal for use inside or outside the classroom, the process begins with the construction of a cube and tetrahedron, and moves on to encompass manufactured modules, a commercial building, a single-story house, and a city rowhouse. Landscaping and presentation details are also provided to make your creations look their absolute best. Beautiful photography illustrates the step-by-step instructions for the beginning projects, as well as a colorful gallery of more complex designs that will excite and inspire you. These projects are a wonderful combination of the precision of model-building and the limitlessness of your creativity.
Customer Reviews:
Architectural my rear-end.......2006-03-27
This book is the worst depiction of model-making I have yet seen. I lost money sending it back but I'd be embarrassed to have it in my library. Should carry a warning label: `written by authors having only a passing interest in the subject'.
WOW What a let down!!.......2006-01-04
I agree one star is way to gracious. I wished I had read the reviews rather than be exciting about finding a new "building structures" book and just ordering.
The books starts out saying its for high school and college architectural modelers. It should say it's for no more than 5th graders. They use foam core for many of the models. I was ready to see the authors use milk cartons! Its that bad. They try to pass off a stone facade with aquarium gravel!?! Are you kidding me! Plus some of the structures shown in the book are falling apart! Pul-eaze!
There is better info on scratch building structures for free online at some model railroad websites and forums such as http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=25
So don't waste your money. Or if your insistent, send me the $15 and I'll send you my copy. I only looked thru it once.
1 Star is being too generous.......2005-11-04
Total of waste of time and money.... Nothing of value in this magazine whatsoever. They pumped it full of color photos of basic structures and offered no instruction of any value. I opened it, scanned the contents and Threw it in the trash.
This rag gets 0 stars.
Makes a nice coffee coaster!.......2003-12-21
Dont waste your money, even a grade school art teacher would be disappointed. The publisher should have never allowed the title to include the term architects.
Great Book!!.......2002-06-16
Great book, perfect for beginners. Wonderful pictures. Would highly reccomend to anyone interested in getting into this hobby.

ASIN: 3764361026 |
Book Description
Customer Reviews:
GREAT book for LEGO enthusiasts.......2006-11-22
This is a GREAT book for LEGO enthusiasts, as there are TONS of great photos of interesting layouts, photos of the models, etc. This is a great resource ALSO because since these are already models, much of the geometry is already simplified, which makes building much easier. :-)
Help Has Arrived.......2000-07-09
If you have ever had a hard time visualizing the way a floor plan would look in real life this book would be benificial. It is a well rounded collection of house models done by famous architects. This book will also help anyone who is trying to design a model house of their own.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good Book.......2007-09-21
I found the book very helpful. As a newer user of Revit I found it to be more than informative. Who expects a book to teach you how to completely use new software? Does a book ever do this for an individual? It's there as a REFERENCE. The only way to get use to the software is by using it and "playing" with it. I can find mistakes or incorrect entries in every software manual. Take it for what it is, a sourse of information. The book is more than adequate.
Beginners Bliss.......2007-09-12
As a new REVIT user I thoroughly enjoyed "Intruding REVIT Architecture 2008". The book offered a concise introduction to BIM and its uses throughout the process of architectural design. Best of all were the tips and tricks revealed. As with any new program, it takes time to pick up the short cuts and discover all of the possibilities of a parametric program. Enjoy!
Disjointed, Incomplete, and Many Text Errors, CD files corrumpted.......2007-08-23
I started reading the first chapter, and I thought, "This book is great. Great introduction to BIM." I found one sentence error and was like, "It doesn't matter; it's just one error," until I read further and further on.
Tutorials are disjointed! The examples are often not described smoothly and capable of following along -- unless it is bumps and crashes you like. I find my self writing in the book, adding information needed to the steps and example to actually be complete. At first it was a couple time, then by chapter 4 & 5 it was getting ridiculous.
Examples? This is just for Chapter 4.
p94: step 1 states "Select the Wall" yet the book has not told us from what file name from the entire CD we use to select "that one there wall."
p104: step 3 states "Top" when Revit refers to it specifically as "Height"
p104: step 3 states Loc Line to "Centerline" when Revit clearly only has one selection as "Wall Centerline"
p116-7: describes to draw a roof that follows the wall outlined, and is not a rectangular roof. Then continuing on page 117, the roof is SUDDENLY RECTANGULAR.
p117: step 11 tells us to "Finish Sketch," YET we were already told to hit "Finish Sketch" in Step 8. It's like telling someone to finish a cup of water twice with only one glass of water.
p117: step 12 states to change to metal roof, yet the roof is already metal (Generic - 12")
p119: step 3 state, "When you're got a closed loop of lines. ... " Folks this is not even a sentence, much less correct English.
p125: missing image for fig.4.83
p131: step 9 does not show lock icons as stated
p139: does not illustrate or describe where to "finish the other bathroom.
p141: reference to file name on CD is incorrect
p147: step 5 states "resulting in 3D geometry" yet the drawing view is a 2D plan view
In addition, I found a file corrupted on the CD, which is accompanied with the book. The book sometimes references the CD file correctly and other time you must find what file the book is talking about.
I'm sick of incompleteness. However, if your determined you can make your way through this book the book will help you -- but only if your really computer literate already.
This book I consider as a rough draft.
This book confuses me.......2007-08-23
My experience using "Introducing Revit Architecture 2008" by Krygiel, Demchak, and Dzambazova is not positive. I consistently find that the images given in the book do not match the screens, menus, and dialog boxes I see in the Revit Product. It looks like the book was written with a previous release of Revit Architecture. While it possible to eventually find the items the book mentions, I found this book very frustrating to use as a means for learning the software. I waste too much time trying to find the items the book is describing because the book's graphics do not match the Revit screens.
Revit Workflows.......2007-05-18
There are many books that get lost into the "picks & clicks" of the application software. This book is NOT one of them. Moreover, the authors do a fantastic job in writing about Revit Architecture within the architectural workflow. They cover all of the bases. I recommend this book to all users of Revit Architecture.

Book Description
Building Product Models thoroughly presents the concepts, technology, and methods now used to work out what will become the building product model - a new, digital representation for architecture, civil engineering, and building construction. Organized into three sections (history, current tools and concepts, and existing efforts and research issues), this resource provides the field of building product modeling with a standard reference as well as a single, comprehensive text for university courses. Until now, all the efforts in building modeling have been reported in research journals and conference proceedings or been made available as draft standards on the Internet. Building Product Models is the only book available on this vital field, bringing together essential aspects of major efforts from the early 1970s to the present.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for the research oriented architect.......2003-05-02
An excellent book that documents, in a single source, a wide range of information pertaining to technological progress and precedences in building related data representations. The book is a great asset for teachers and researchers alike.
A first book on data exchange in construction industry.......1999-08-19
FROM Preface:
This is the first book dealing with the electronic representation of buildings for data exchange and collaboration, what are called building product models. Up to now, all the efforts in building modeling have been scattered in research journals and conference proceedings, or recorded in minutes of standards meetings, or made available as draft standards on the Internet. This book presents the history of building models as well as the concepts, technology, and methods now used to develop them. It reviews and critiques recent standards efforts, including those by ISO-STEP and the International Alliance for Interoperability. It lays out the unresolved research areas, laying the groundwork for the next generation of building models. It is an indispensable source for organizations anticipating developing electronic data exchange of building information in all forms, including the Web.
