Customer Reviews:
Very solid and practical guide........2006-11-07
The guide layout is very easy to follow and provides the reader with a clear and concise roadmap for beginning or maintaining HIPAA compliance.
Very well done.
Barry Fergus Jones, CISM CISSP.......2004-07-29
This is the best single reference that I've seen on the subject. Kevin and Rebecca have assembled a guide that is eminently practical, superbly organized, and tremendously helpful. I reach for it every time I have a question on HIPPA. In fact, it's the only HIPPA reference I've used since I got it.
Excellent resource everyone involved in HIPAA should have.......2004-06-02
Rebecca and Kevin have created an excellent resource for HIPAA Security Practictioners. They provide practical guidance for interpreting the HIPAA security rule, in terms that the non-security professional can understand. Especially of value are the ideas on how to "implement" the security rule, broken down by the relevant HIPAA security standard. I agree with the practical approach that they take within the book, as it is consistent with the HIPAA message that I have also been communicating over the past several years. There are also useful lists of items needed to maintain security compliance after implementation. This is a good book for the novice and experienced privacy/security professional. It is nice to see that someone has compiled this much useful information into one book. Nice job ! This is a must have book if you are a Security of Privacy Officer.
A must have for all Information Security Professionals!.......2004-05-20
As the title states, the book provides a very practical guide to HIPAA Privacy and Security. I used this book as a key reference to understanding the HIPAA privacy and security rule and in building a comprehensive roadmap (project plan) for compliance -- nicely done!
I strongly recommend the book to all Security Professionals that are working to build an environment based on standards of good practice -- including HIPAA compliance.
An Achievable Security Rule Remediation Plan Road Map.......2004-04-05
For all the people out there looking for a comprehensive and thorough, plain-language explanation of the HIPAA security rule, who then complain about not having a clue about what next steps should be taken, the complaints should cease and the excuses should disappear after reading this book. "The Practical Guide to HIPAA Privacy and Security Compliance" not only "talks the talk" but the authors allow the reader to "walk the talk" as well, The appendices are invaluable resource. As a healthcare compliance consultant, I definitely will be recommending this book to my clients as well as apply some of the implemmentation suggestions with my clients during my own engagements.
Well done Beaver and Herold!!!
Book Description
Retire Secure! tackles the number one fear facing most IRA and retirement plan owners: running out of money too soon. Lange, a nationally recognized IRA expert, offers specific and practical strategies to successfully navigate the three stages of retirement planning: accumulation, distribution, and estate planning.
Retire Secure! explains the tax advantages and long term wealth building strategies of selectively and strategically putting money into IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401(k)s, Roth 401(k)s and the myriad other retirement plan options available to individuals working in the corporate world, the non-profit sector, as well as individual proprietors. The book proves that putting money into tax advantaged retirement plans beats “traditional saving” in the after-tax environment.
The book sheds new light on best practices for spending your IRA and retirement plan dollars and your traditional savings. Many readers will be surprised to discover that the order in which assets are spent is not a trivial consideration—it can make or break the bank.
It also outlines Lange’s exceptional estate plan–a plan that has been featured in the
Wall Street Journal and many other fine financial journals.
The book offers financial planning strategies and tactics in plain English that everyone can understand—and using humor and interesting characters in real life situations the book escapes the dreaded dry financial tome tone. For example, Chapter 1 offers a great mini case study that charts the financial destiny of Mr. Pay Taxes Later and Mr. Pay Taxes Now. Both start saving when they are age 30, but when Mr. Pay Taxes Now reaches age 90, he is broke, while Mr. Pay Taxes Later has $1,946,949 left. Chapter 8 is devoted to a complete case study of “Eddie’s and Emily’s” entire retirement decision making process.
The book is endorsed by more than 31 leading financial experts including
Charles Schwab, and
Roger G. Ibbotson, Yale Professor and perhaps the world’s foremost authority on asset allocation. As a bonus, readers who purchase this book can receive a free information-packed CD.
"
Retire Secure! is your playbook for winning the retirement game and beyond. It shows you how to capitalize on little known provisions of the tax law that will make your retirement savings last several lifetimes, leveraging your hard earned money into a family legacy. Best of all, you can rely on the advice here since it is written by one of the nation's leading retirement tax planning authorities.”
Ed Slott, Author Parlay Your IRA into a Family Fortune and
The Retirement Savings Time Bomb…and How to Defuse It
James Lange (Pittsburgh, PA) , an attorney and CPA, is a nationally known IRA, 401(k), and retirement plan distribution expert with over 27 years of experience. His recommendations have appeared 23 times in the
Wall Street Journal as well as the
New York Times,
Newsweek, Kiplinger’s, and many other prestigious financial publications.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book on financial planing and retirement.......2007-06-12
Bravo!
This book is a must read if you're planning to retire wealthy, or at least securely.
And...
Every college student should be required to study this book carefully if they want to avoid all the common mistakes and money pitfalls that 98% of us fall into. I wish I had read this when I was in college... I would be $100,000 wealthier.

What everyone needs to read and understand to make the best retirement decisions.......2007-01-03
James Lang has had so much excellent advice for my husband and me that we purchased 7 copies for our adult children and are hopeful they will benefit from the knowledge in the books and cds.
Retire Secure-Solid Advice For All.......2006-10-21
Reading "Retire Secure" will not alone make you rich. However, if you read and follow Mr. Lange's advice, you will build wealth and then protect it to the fullest extent possible. The book outlines a very clear path to maximize savings using the most effective vehicle available to you. Then it goes on to provide a thorough roadmap to minimizing your tax consequences and maximizing your after tax returns. Finally the book provides several different strategies for passing along wealth to your heirs while once again factoring in the greedy hands of Uncle Sam. The author not only provides you with the theory, as many financial planners do, but backs up his recommendations with solid proofs and confirms them with amusing case studies. Overall this book is an excellent source for information on the use of retirement funds for wealth building and hopefully inheritance to pass on.
Good for Advisors and Investors.......2006-10-11
James Lange's Retire Secure, offers great techniques to help persons planning for retirement. He is on the right track - to postpone and minimize the impact of taxes - in order to maximize the retiree's money and extend the spendable income. This book makes a valuable contribution to the field of personal finance - for both the consumers and the professional advisors who serve them.
My Roadmap.......2006-09-19
I find James Lange's book to be excellant. When we want to go someplace we're not familiar with, who uses MapQuest? Why? It gives us the starting point and the ending point. This book gives so much valuable information. I'll be retiring in 10 to 11 years, so my interest is quite serious. I stumbled accross Mr. Lange's website and find that to also be a fine source of information. As a 'boomer' I'm amazed at what the internet has done for our culture i.e. sharing of information.

Customer Reviews:
A Must for professionals/Students in Crime Scene Tech!.......2004-01-02
I bought this book some time ago, and has been useful from the start. It does, indeed, give basic information on evidence recovery, Balistics, blood spatter, drowning, and other scenarios you may see. It is on a matter of fact based.
If you are looking for reasons why you are preforming these proceedures, I agree, this is not the book for you.
But if you are looking for do's and don't and want to see how to correctly regonize, secure and recover a crime scene then this is the book for you!
not for beginners.......2002-12-16
I guess I should have realised from the title that this book would not be for me. I don't have any background in this, I'm just a regular person studying for a bachelor's degree in Science and I wanted to get a book for interest on this topic. I would have greatly benefited from a sample of the pages inside and I could have seen the structure of it. The entire book is point form and quite bare (not of information, there's tonnes of that, but bare of anything to round it out). It literally is for people actually in the field and if you're not "in the field" then don't even bother getting this book. It is NOT for general interest sake. It is point form, some of the printing is fuzzy in a couple of places, there are only a handful of pencil sketches (that's all the illustration it has). But it does have step by step information of what to do if you're a cop (but I'm thinking if you were a cop, you really shouldn't have to stop to consult a book when you're at a crimescene). There it is, make what you will of this review and good luck.
Disappointing.......2002-11-02
Getting started in homicide investigation, and after reading the reviews here, it seemed this was the book for me. Unfortunately this book didn't help much at all. The entire book is in an outline format that just gives bullets on what to do and not to do. It doesn't explain the WHY of any of these things. Without the explainations behind the items, I did not learn anything from this book. I recommend you look elsewhere.
death Investigator's HandBook.......2002-05-07
This is the book! It cover's more then any other book I have read so far. I am retired Sgt. from the NYS Child Abuse Unit, and I have seen the worst of the worst out there, but I wish I had this book with me on every case I ever worked! The information stored in here and procedure's to follow and follow up make it worth reading this book cover to cover as many times as you can! Bravo Mr. Eliopulos, job well done!
Absolutely A Must Read.......1999-11-24
This is the most comprehensive book on field investigation I have ever seen. Covers death scene evidence gathering in a manner that insures every detail is observed and that a strong chain of evidence is developed (hope the LAPD has a bunch of these!). As a writer this one is now tops on my list for research involving murder, both for the intrepid police investigator and for the perp to get away with the crime. Excellent book - can't say much more than that.

With the help of this book, no matter when you come into an investigation you are on-line and ready to go. Customer Reviews:
all in one.......2007-08-10
although the author has a fixation for weird sex deaths and spends more time then they are worth for an investigator in most areas, this is the best overall book i have seen for laying out a thorough investigation and peripheral issues. i wish more law enforcement officers used this book--rank, too--rank on a scene or in front of a camera can be like a bull in a china shop.
FORMER NYPD COP DOES GOOD........2007-03-15
Vernon brings many years of experience to us all in his book so that we do not make the mistakes others have made.
A Morbid Classic!.......2006-12-03
Talk about a disturbing book. This one will probably give you nightmares if you haven't desensitized yourself to violence yet. If your denial mechanism is in disrepair, you'd probably be best to avoid this book which is the "Bible" of crime scene investigation techniques. Extremely graphic photographs of murder and suicide victims along with a compelling forensic text with such chapters as 'The Homicide Crime Scene Search,' 'Estimating Time Of Death,' 'Modes Of Death,' 'Suicide Investigation,' and 'The Autopsy' makes this one of the most informative and disturbing books available. Highly Recommended!
practical, detailed and helpful.......2006-08-29
In this appropriately named "Checklist and Field Guide" Vernon J. Geberth distills the complexities of criminal investigation into a series of helpful checklists and charts. The reading is informative (though not always engaging) and he provides a necessary resource for law enforcement personnel as well as a helpful guide for authors writing books involving criminal investigation or police procedures.
Practical Homicide Investigation, Fourth Edition.......2006-07-06
Book Review: Practical Homicide Investigation, Fourth Edition
Author: Vernon J. Geberth, CRC Press, 2006
The latest edition of Practical Homicide Investigation, starts with reemphasizing the basics of homicide investigation, expands upon the coverage of practical methods of solving your murder cases and adds new information that addresses some of the newest, most crucial innovations of homicide investigation that will help us in our pursuit of justice for the victims and their surviving families. Even if you have memorized the first three editions, the 4th Edition of Practical Homicide Investigation needs to be on your "must read" list if you want to be an effective murder cop.
The textbook opens with the five components of practical homicide investigation and demonstrates the investigative strategies to be a successful homicide investigator. The addition of the color photographs to the 4th edition is a great compliment to the text, especially the coverage of wound structures and crime scenes. The images will help any investigator recognize and evaluate the potential significance of various wounds that you will encounter as a homicide investigator.
In this business, we all recognize the impact of DNA technology in our cases. The new chapter on DNA technology explains the science in a manner that murder cops can understand and utilize when evaluating homicides and the evidence associated with the cases. Being able to evaluate and understand the importance of this evolving forensic field can save you time as an investigator, prioritize the analysis requests for your forensic examiners to avoid delays due to examination requests backlogs and possibly save the lives of future potential victims as well.
The new chapter on equivocal death investigation is another worthwhile addition to the homicide investigator's bible. The fact that the deaths are equivocal means that the homicide investigator must use advanced tactics in reviewing the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The case studies in this chapter demonstrate the importance of evaluating all of the components of practical homicide investigation to ensure that wrongful deaths are not overlooked.
My favorite chapter in this latest edition of Practical Homicide Investigation is the chapter on Profiling and Investigative Assessment. The expanded coverage in this chapter reinforces the importance of behavioral evidence at the crime scene and how to utilize the collection of this "intangible" evidence in your overall homicide investigation.
The new Practical Homicide Investigation textbook could be called "4th Addition" rather than "4th Edition" as you will see when you read it. You will find newly added cases and updated information throughout the pages from cover to cover.
When you finish reading the last chapter of the 4th Edition and think that you have finished the textbook, you flip the page and find a newly revised glossary of the terms and definitions related to homicide investigations. This glossary is not only a great resource for your understanding of the terminology, but will enhance your ability to properly document your investigation in professional, well-written reports. Another important benefit of the glossary will be recognized after the arrest of the perpetrator(s) when it is your time to testify. You will be able to discuss your case in a manner that will demonstrate to the people in the judicial system, especially the jury, your dedication to your profession and to the victims of crimes. Reading and understanding this book will give you the confidence to ensure that homicide victims will get what they deserve - a thorough investigation by a professional, dedicated investigator.
I have been a PHI disciple for many years and as I read the 4th Edition text, I could hear the words of Vernon Geberth, "Follow every lead to its ultimate conclusion." - "All murder cops are cold case detectives." - "Remember, do it right the first time. You only get one chance." These directives will act as cues to keep you focused as you investigate any death cases.
All of the great additions to the 4th Edition of Practical Homicide Investigation lead to the most remarkable point of all which is that Lt. Commander Geberth took the time to improve his book for us. It demonstrates his perpetual passion for the profession of homicide investigation and is why he is known internationally as "Mr. Murder." Even though the author's name is followed by the word "retired" in parenthesis, the truth is that Vernon Geberth may have retired from NYPD, but he has never retired from the business of being a murder cop. The fact that he continues to revise the Practical Homicide Investigation textbook is a testament to his dedication to solving homicides and an example that all of us in the business should strive to achieve.

Social Security disability is an enormous program, with hundreds of thousands of people participating each year. Consequently, it's easy for both participants and first-time applicants to get lost in the system's bureaucracy.

Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability.......2006-02-12
Not at all helpful if you are filling out an application for SSDI benefits. More than 3/4 of the book is on the appeal process and social security system jargon. You can tell it is written by a lawyer, its worthless.
Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability by Iii MD et al........2005-05-23
This book is invaluable for anyone contemplating a disability claim or for anyone seeking to preserve benefits. The authors explain the elements of a claim; namely the severity of an impairment and its impact on the ability to function in a work environment or setting. The MINE claims are predefined by the law. These are "Medical Improvement Not Expected". i.e. a number of debilitating arthritic diseases or diseases of the musculo-skeletal system
The 20CFR 404 provides an impairment list of conditions. The basic question is whether or not you can do a prior job or another similar one. The criteria will consider factors including
exertion, posture, manipulation, vision, communication,
environment and symptomatology. Major joint disfunctions are
an important marker for disability, as well as, loss of spinal
motion. Obstructive breathing disorders may qualify for disability, as well as, inflammatory conditions and chronic
digestive conditions which interfere with work.
This book will prove invaluable if you are dealing with the
government on a claim. The details of the evaluation process
are set forth in an easy-to-read format. The volume is worth the
price if you intend to apply its contents dispassionately.
A great reference book overall.......2004-03-11
This is an excellent book of the whole area of Social Security Disability benefits and how to fill the forms out completely, when to seek an attorney for appeals etc, and a rather extensive section on what the term disability means to Social Security and what diseases, conditions etc qualify and which do not. The only area lacking was disabled spousal Social Security Disability coverage, which a spouse under age 50 with no minor children must file for in the same way the working spouse who becomes disabled would have to do. I plan on donating my copy which I bought via Amazon.com to my local public library.
MUST HAVE.......2003-07-10
Filing for Social Security Disability benefits is not easy. This guide explains EVERYTHING in easy to understand terms. I wish I had ordered it before the first denial. I am using this book while filing a reconsideration. The suggestions provided have really opened my eyes to the process. I highly recommend this book to people who want a little extra information on the SSA's thought process when going over your application.
Get and keep your ssdi.......2002-07-15
Bought this book as part of prep for application for ssdi. (also bought how to get ssi and ssdi by mike davis and dis workbook for ss applicants by doug. smith). Each book explained a diff part of the ssdi process. This book told what each med diagnosis needed to establish to qualify for perm. disability. And it goes on to explain how to keep your ssdi once you get your award. I did win my case the first try using the info in the 3 books. Having them made all the diff in the world in understanding the ssdi process. Best $[money]. (all 3 books) I ever spent...

Customer Reviews:
Truly One Of A Kind..........2004-12-05
As a licensed private investigator that is experienced in asset investigations, I can personally tell you that this is truly the only book of its kind. I would like to personally thank Mr. Ronald L. Mendell, BS, CLI for writing such a complete and long overdue text on this vital topic. Mendell does an excellent job of describing a systematic method for utilizing various resources/information sources to construct a detailed financial profile of the SUBJECT of the investigation.
Asset investigations are time consuming and arduous. Often, one small piece of information can be the key to uncovering a wealth (sometimes literally) of information regarding the SUBJECT. Even an experienced investigator will benefit from this text merely by employing it to insure that all bases have been covered.
Forget what you know or you think you know about asset investigations. This book is the real deal for legal (emphasis added) asset investigations. To date, I have not found another book on this topic that comes or even appears to come close to providing the same level of information. If you perform or would like to learn how to conduct asset investigations, I would not hesitate for one second to add this text to your investigative library.
As a final note, if you plan on performing any type of asset investigation, I highly encourage you to thoroughly research the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (also known as the GLB) via the Internet. Excellent knowledge of this legislation could mean the difference between a lucrative career as an asset investigator or an excellent career as a resident of your local state correctional facility - no joke. Good luck!
As always, check with your local library or bookstore to see if you can read/review this or any title before deciding to make a purchase. This method has effectively allowed me to make the most of my investigative library budget.
I hope you found this review helpful. If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact me via email at MichaelBeltz@FALI.com. Respectfully submitted, MB.
Mendall is essential reading for financial investigators.......1996-12-18
In this seminal textbook for conducting asset searches, Mendall's provides the tools for analyzing a subject's financial situation. The emphasis here is on painstaking research in public records to develop a detailed portrait of the subject. Every investigation of this kind starts in the local courthouse with hard work, meticulous attention to detail, careful notes, and other not-so-glamorous means of retrieving, organizing, and analyzing information in order to provide intelligence to a collection attorney. Using the techniques in this book, one can locate real property, business, bank accounts and other asset for postjudgment execution. I highly recommend this book. It is always on my shelf and I find myself consulting it repeatedly. I only wish that Mendall had included more case studies

The collector's item of the 20th Century!.......2007-07-30
This book is renowned as THE collector's item of the 20th Century. It's reputation precedes it due to the fact that when the authors' decided to publish an updated second edition, they felt it extremely necessary to include the now infamous Chapter 13, titled as "Enemy Attack And The UFO Potential."
This was confirmed in a highly revealing interview with one of the authors on "Sightings," a popular weekly television show hosted by Tim Rice and produced by Henry Winkler during the 1990s.
Inheriting Leonard Nimoy's "In Search Of" legacy, which aired during the 1970s, "Sightings" drew a tremendous audience during the 1990s as it explored and analyzed many different aspects of the paranormal and metaphysical genres.
When the "Sightings" crew focused their interest on the "Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control, Second Edition," it gave the book, its authors and its controversial Chapter 13 a level of public exposure that basically ripped the rug out from under any false notions that UFOs or alien craft were not real local, state or national issues.
I got my hands on a copy by calling Fire Engineering Books and Videos and pretending to be a firefighter. This was just before they caught on as to what was happening due to public interest generated by the "Sightings" episode.
Anecdote 1:
An atheist/agnostic friend of mine had read Chapter 13 and her comments were as such: "I can't believe this! This is absolutely shocking to me! Anyone who is the least bit mentally imbalanced would surely commit suicide after reading this!"
What amazed her the most was its casual, professional, matter-of-fact approach - as if to say this happens everyday for firefighters.
Anecdote 2:
My brother, who had just started his own trucking delivery service at the time, had actually crossed paths with the warehouse that stored and shipped copies of "Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control" for the publishing house. While making a delivery, he spotted the books stacked on pallets in the warehouse and, knowing a good opportunity when he sees one, decided to ask about the Second Edition.
The guys in the warehouse looked at each other and then back at my brother. They began to smile, grinning like the Cheshire Cat. "You're talking about that Chapter 13, right?" they asked. They already knew why he was inquiring. They told him that everyone always asks about that edition and that chapter.
Are You Sure You Want THIS Job?.......2006-03-03
This book is a broad study of about all the large disasters a Fire Officer might need to understand something about. There are statistics, and some very good facts about the many subjects including myths and misconceptions. And UFOs. The chapters are well organized and the print is large enough for relaxed reading. The book is written in a casual, but professional style that keeps your interest.
I recommend it for any EMS, Fire, or civil defense/preparedness students or professionals. The only reason for a 4/5 rating is the broadness of each subject. Anyone in the business knows each chapter is worth a book all by itself. This work is a great accomplishment and my copy cost $55 in 1995. Its only slightly dated, HazMat is still chemicals, riots are bad, Terrorism is still violent. These authors did a great job!
Defintely the MOST comprehensive disaster control book..........2003-05-25
How many other books of this type have a chapter concerning how to deal with a UFO crash? Seriously, Chapter 13 is entitled "Enemy Attack and UFO Potential." I've always been a skeptic concerning these types of things, but when a completely serious book like this has a chapter about dealing with UFOs (and one of the authors claims to have seen one), you just have to wonder...

Book Description
This new book explores the hidden niches of American history to discover the tug between Americans' yearning for privacy and their insatiable curiosity. The book describes Puritan monitoring in Colonial New England, then shows how the attitudes of the founders placed the concept of privacy in the Constitution. This panoramic view continues with the coming of tabloid journalism in the Nineteenth Century, and the reaction to it in the form of a new right - the right to privacy. The book includes histories of wiretapping, of credit reporting, of sexual practices, of Social Security numbers and ID cards, of modern principles of privacy protection, and of the coming of the Internet and the new challenges to personal privacy it brings.
"Robert Ellis Smith's expose of privacy invasion will be one of the sleeper best-selling books..." wrote columnist William Safire in The New York Times, December 1999. "His numerous books are required reading for anyone concerned about the ongoing threats," said Simson Garfinkel in Database Nation, 2000.
Here's a chapter-by-chapter description: "Watchfulness" describes church monitoring in the Colonial period. "Serenity" shows the craving for solitude by our founders, which shaped the rights they enshrined in the Constitution. "Mistrust" recounts early battles over confidentiality in the Post Office, the Census, and Western Union. "Space" describes the quest for privacy in living arrangements (including the first moves to suburbia after the Civil War) and the lack of privacy on Southern plantations. "Curiosity" traces the epic development of sensational journalism in the Nineteenth Century. "Brandeis" chronicles how Louis Brandeis reacted to gossip journalism and other new technology by "inventing" a legal right to privacy. "Wiretaps" is the story of electronic surveillance from the invention of the telephone to the 1970s.
"Sex" traces changing attitudes towards sexual privacy over two centuries, and provides a chronicle of a Clintonesque sex scandal that changed attitudes forever after the 1880s. "Torts" describes court battles that eventually provided great latitude for gossip journalism. "The Constitution" is a remarkable new look at the very narrow decisions of the Supreme Court that shaped the very narrow Constitutional protections for privacy in the Twenty-first Century.
"Numbers" tells for the first time where Social Security numbers came from and how they are used now, and describes subtle political efforts to create a universal identity document in the U.S. "Databanks" provides histories of credit reporting, database marketing, and government record keeping from the 1950s to the present. "Cyberspace" is a look back at the overnight development of the World Wide Web and its impact on personal privacy.
Lastly, the epilogue entitled "Ben Franklin's Web Site" offers specific tips for protecting your privacy. It is modern guidance that Ben Franklin himself would have provided on his Web site.

Broad and accurate - a wonderful book.......2004-05-09
Ben Franklin's Web Site is a wonderful book - clear, detailed, engaging, hype-free.
So many books have been published on the topic of privacy (especially in recent years). Robert Ellis Smith has written one of those rare pieces that offer a balanced view and provide a truly broad approach to privacy's multifaceted issues. Smith covers historical, philosophical, technological, and legal aspects of the privacy debate, current threats, as well as the relations between privacy and the economic environment. His material is presented in a story-like, chronological order full of interesting anecdotes that grip the attention. Reading this book was a delight.
Best Book on Privacy.......2004-03-28
Robert Ellis Smith's _Ben Franklin's Web Site_ is the best book written on privacy (I've read a lot of them). Smith thoughtfully explores the nuances of Americans' conception of privacy in this book. I use Ben Franklin's Web Site frequently in my work, and think it's just wonderful that it's now in a 2nd printing.
Fascinating Book on Privacy.......2000-08-03
Robert Ellis Smith colors the historical settings for the many pivotal developments, cases and treatise related to privacy. From a description of the Puritan "Tythingmen", who were charged with keeping their eyes on ten families (including the right to inspect the inside of homes), through Madison's early drafts of the First Amendment, forward all the way to the "DoubleClick" controversy, "Ben Franklin's Web Site" covers the myriad of privacy related issues with great elan.
