5 out of 5 stars Writing High Quality Business Plan.......2007-06-22

This book is an excellent and handy resource for those wishing to write an effective business plan. The book shows how to write a simple start-up plan that includes a summary, mission statement, keys to success, market analysis, and break-even analysis. This kind of plan is very useful for deciding whether or not to proceed with a plan, to tell if there is a business worth pursuing, but it is not enough to run a business with.

The book and attached COD-ROM clearly shows how to develop a business plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities. Business plans are not only for starting a new business or applying for business loans but also are critical for running a business, whether or not the business needs new loans or new investments. Businesses need plans to optimize growth and development according to priorities.

The book is highly recommended for those that wish to come up with a high quality business plan

5 out of 5 stars Business Plan Demystified!.......2006-12-22

Where was this book when I needed it? Take it from somebody who's learned the hard way: Probably no aspect of creating a new small business attracts as much attention as the business plan. In starting my own venture, I read all the books, took all the courses, and attended all the seminars. Everybody promised me the "magic bullet" formula for writing a winning business plan.--none of them worked. I could have saved myself a ton of time (not to mention a boat load of money) if I had Sharon Fullen and Dianna Podmoroff's book in front of me on day one.

In these gem-packed pages you'll get all the hand-holding you need to write a winning business plan--one that has the traction to secure financing. And you can move through the process in a way that works best for you. Follow the easy-as-pie blueprint to build your business plan from the ground up. Absolutely no experience necessary! Or, take the FAST PLAN approach and get the quick-hit tools and concepts you want in only the topic areas you want. There's even a companion CD-ROM with business plan and financial spreadsheet templates, so you can plug in your own data and add it to your plan.

It's all here--samples, resources, toolkits, and real-life applications. The help is easy to get and easy to use! This is "business plan demystified." So, where was this book when I needed it?

5 out of 5 stars Writing Bankable Business Plan.......2007-05-16

The book is a step-by-step guide on how to write a practical business plan particularly for entrepreneur starting a business. The reader is guided through the interrelated elements of a typical plan. These elements are the mission, market, competition, self-evaluation, opportunities, objectives, strategies, programmes, goals, resources and financials. The book has several examples from actual strategic plans, making it easy for the reader to understand the subject fully. The course is easy to follow and will help you think through your business and come up with a bankable business plan.

This is a well-written and thorough self-help book that will lead you through the business plan writing process. After reading the book, its several examples and worksheets, you should be able to present a convincing business plan with well-laid out financials that should be convincing, understandable and impressive to banks and investors.

The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.

4 out of 5 stars Good starting point for the would-be entrepreneur.......2007-03-16

This book is a good starting point for the confused would-be entrepreneur... My business partner and I have taken numerous entrepreneurship classes and have mulled over a business opportunity for quite some time, however, we had a hard time putting our thoughts in writing. The book helped us create structure around our ideas and prompted us to research further certain areas. I have to admit - we did not read everything cover to cover... We skimmed through the finance-related chapters as we already had our own models (but I could see how these sections could be helpful to others).

I wish the author had covered the following topics: (1.) drawbacks and advantages of partnerships versus LLCs, (2.) intellectual property law (i.e., registering a trade mark) and (3.) funding options for socially responsible ventures.

    5 out of 5 stars Almost Addictive.......2006-08-27

While writing a business plan, I spent two intense weeks with this book, reading and writing furiously every day. I came to understand phrases that had eluded me such as cash flow, profit and loss forecast, and gross profit percentage. It took me step by step through the process using simple, highly readable language, and short and interesting examples. The tear out forms in the back for filling in numbers are invaluable, and for the first time, while filling in the profit and loss forecast, the term "bottom line" took on real significance. The author also includes other extensive resources for new business owners and an excellent index. Scattered throughout are axioms and pieces of advice that I found truly helpful. Whether I succeed with this business or not is still up in the air, but it won't be for lack of having a good business plan!

5 out of 5 stars Easy steps for writing a business plan without need for software.......2005-10-02

I gravitated towards this book after realizing that my business idea did not fit easily within any of the prepackaged business plan software. The idea of writing the financial forcasting projections and tables on my own was quite daunting, but following this book I not only understood how to write the plan, but learned a great deal about small business financials in the process. I had use the software in the past and I had not learned a thing. Here, for the first time I actually understood why a good business plan is important, aside from being a tool for getting people to lend you money, as an actual tool to making the business work. I highly recommend this book to anybody that wants to learn a bit more about financial planning before setting out to accomplish their dream. Personally I am very grateful to have found this book, as it made a hard job easy to do. Thanks Mike, your book is a winner.

    4 out of 5 stars Insightful!.......2005-09-05

This is a highly specialized guidebook for market researchers. Author Ian Brace goes into great detail about designing questionnaires, a process which may seem simple, but is not. Brace thoughtfully considers the variables that can arise in all aspects of planning, structuring, writing and asking survey questions, including how to avoid ambiguity and how the actual questionnaire should look. He hews tightly to the task of getting researchers to formulate the best survey tools possible, even recommending the best type sizes and layouts. This book is only for serious market researchers, who will welcome its enclosed compact disc containing sample questionnaires and designs. In a day when many researchers use time-tested canned questions, this is a craftsman's handbook on the inside art of drafting a questionnaire. We recommend using this authoritative manual to develop your market research questionnaires. And, if you hire someone to design a questionnaire for you, this will give you some background so you can monitor the content intelligently. In questionnaire design - and supervision - apparently the really dumb question is the one you didn't ask.

Especially Part 2 - "Directory"- include a lot of very helpful links (almost 50 pages ! ) But , I think examples and some statements are poor and repeated several times . In addition , section Financial projections and Financial Management Plan is presented in VERY high level and can't be used for real business plan creation.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for starting up an e-company.......2001-01-12

Having been through the wringer, and witnessed several friends try to do the same, I feel that this book covers the necessary steps for starting, and continuing, a successful e-company. Having a good checklist is essential, doing it with a good sense of humor is always a plus. The interviews brought the material to life where normal examples would have been boring. Nicely done.

          5 out of 5 stars Excellent Basic How-to-get-started book.......2001-01-11

This is not one of those dry books where you are immediately lost after the first page. This is an excellent resource for beginners like myself, who are thinking about starting a dot com and don't have the foggiest idea about how to go about it. Ms. Eglash has researched the sites and subject for you, giving you a head start on the process. There is also some practical advise from real people who have been there already. I look forward to a follow-up book.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Book for those contemplating a dot com business........2001-01-10

I was looking for a book that wouldn't intimidate me. This book gave me the guidelines and structure I needed to get going on the process without overwhelming me with useless details. I found what I needed in a quick and consise manner. This book presents the basics in a user friendly way. Where else would I find interviews with such a variety of experts like Guy Kawasaki? I highly recommend this book to those of you who want to create a successful dot com business.

Barry Callen works for the author. The other reviews are more accurate. This book is basic, dry and unreadable save for someone starting from scratch with no other available resources.

Barry Callen works for the author. Take his review with a big grain of salt. This book is basic, dry and uninspiring.

4 out of 5 stars Good as a reference book.......2001-09-15

This is a good reference marketing plan book for novice people who are serious about learning the right process and fundational technique. Even it was printed in 10 years ago, I was surprised about it is very useful and not out of date at all. It is good to apply to enterprise software business as well, especially in the current market, solid marketing plan is one of key to evulate the product and company success. I have this book as a reference book if you have some budget to keep a few handy marketing books near you.

3 out of 5 stars Cutting edge, circa 1974.......2000-02-28

If you're new to a methodical approach to planning a marketing program, this book probably will help you sort through the issues. For anyone experienced in strategy planning, the book comes across as a bit reductive and pedantic.

To be fair, the book does provide a workable structure that allows novice marketers to focus on the situational issues rather than scrambling just to identify the the required components of a plan. It also may serve as a journeyman-like reference for experienced marketers.

One more note: the book clearly predates the Internet and is very much oriented at the mass marketing of good, old-fashioned consumer products. Don't expect to shift your paradigm here!

5 out of 5 stars DISCIPLINED AND COMPREHENSIVE TO THE MAX.......1999-09-05

If there is a more methodical and detailed approach to marketing planning, I haven't seen it in 20 years in the ad business. The workbook format and the authors' real world experience make this a practical and useful tool for developing a marketing communications plan. The benefit of this approach is that your plan has been viewed from every angle, built methodically and logically, tested against reality, and executed down to the most minute detail. These guys have definitely been around the block. This book is useful in the real world.
