Book Description
Natural swimming pools rely on the correct balance of plants and microorganisms to clean and purify the water. They are a safe place for children to play and birds to drink, and are a dramatic example of ecological design, combining the natural and man-made worlds while creating beauty. These pools offer enjoyment not only in the warm months, but during winter, too, when they can be used for ice skating and other activities. Often the focal point of a garden, natural swimming pools blend into their environments, flowing into the surroundings with plants and rocks. They reflect the changing seasons and they enhance the environment naturally. They are easy and less costly to maintain than chemical pools, providing significant savings in water. Chlorine and other common pool chemicals are hazardous to human health and are not used. This book is a necessary resource for anyone interested in having a natural swimming pool and shows how a natural swimming pool system works, as well as the environmental, health, and safety benefits it offers. Drawings, diagrams, and charts cover planning, design, biology, materials, construction, planting, and maintenance. Over 300 beautiful color pictures feature projects that will inspire you to have your own natural water garden where you can swim in harmony with nature at any time.
Customer Reviews:
Perfect book.......2007-09-04
Great book for all aspects of creating a variety of green/natural pools. Beautiful pictures and good illustrations and copy to help in decision making.
YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK .......2007-08-22
Simply put this book is a MUST READ for anyone intersted in any aspect of Sustainable and Ecological Design. It should be read right along with Permaculture by Mollison, the Passive Solar Handbook by Mazria, Rainwater Harvesting by Lancaster, and ecocities to Living Machines by Todd. Even if you aren't specifically interested in making a swimming pool (which you will be after reading it) the insights into the workings of hydro-ecologies and how to design natural systems are invaluable!
If you aren't interested in the whole range of sustainability but just this particular topic of pool design then this book is STILL A MUST READ. If you're an ecologist who wants to make a pool, or a pool designer who wants to do something ecological this book provides an excellent layman's understanding of ecological design, with good technical and artistic advice for how to do it, and good technical and artistic advice for swimming pool construction.
I would still advise you to also purchase the book Poolscaping as a companion to this one.
This is an all around excellent book buy it now.
Beautiful photos; strange text.......2007-08-01
Thumbing through the book will make you want to move to Austria or Germany where beautiful "natural" pools are somehat established. Why is the U. S. so environmentally backward? Unfortunately, the text is awkwardly translated at times such that one has to struggle to figure out what is meant with limited success. The assumption is that one is swimming only in the summer, but in California we may want to swim year round. Useful especially since so little information is available. Can't understand why the publisher didn't insist on professional proofreading.Buy it for inspiration, or wait for the next edition, or wait for one more applicable to your area. It does provide info in the back about two U.S resources, one in CA.
Very complete book .......2007-02-24
Is the book i need for learning on natural swimming pool. Now i can make my own pool
Surprisingly COMPREHENSIVE!.......2007-02-09
This large sized book covered the subject exceedingly well in lots of color photos with explanations and, more importantly, in lots of diagrams and nuts and bolts descriptions. I only read sections here and there but what I did read clearly indicated to me that you could actually use this book to build a natural swimming pool. At the least, you could definitely make a solid decision whether or not you could build or would want to build such a pool on your property. These pools are basically like salt water aquariums in that you have to make a biosphere and monitor it. In some ways it's not as easy as it sounds but also not as hard as it sounds. However, start up takes time and it can be tricky to finally reach environmental stabilization. I am not going to build a natural pool but I still found this book very useful. At the end this book are MANY pages of water plants and trees recommended for certain types of water areas. There are zone maps of the US included for reference. So even if you just want to make a little ornamental fountain in a big pot on the patio deck or a pond or a bog out back, this book has a VERY comprehensive set of plant lists you will find exceedingly useful. 18 pages of them. Categories include Submerged Plants, Floating Plants, Floating Leaved Plants, Shallow Marginal Plants, Deep Marginal Plants, Moisture-loving Plants, Bog/Marsh Plants, Waterside Plats-Trees & Shrubs, Ferns, Grasses Sedges Reeds and Rushes. Botanical and Common Names are listed along with height, spread, water depth, flower color, flower period, foliage, position, comments and plant zone. It's the best I've seen in any book so far.

I was accidently sent another book in my mailing package. I sent that one back with a note that it was the wrong product. i have not yet received the Magic Tree House book set.
My daughter loves these books.......2007-08-09
My daugther just could not put down these books after she had received them. She finished 12 books in less than a week! I am going to get the rest of this series for her soon.
Great for 1st-3rd Graders.......2007-07-28
While the writing isn't great, the stories are certainly entertaining, and are great reading for 1st-3rd Graders. The stories follow two siblings, Jack and Annie, who are magically transported to various places, and the various settings set the stage for some very fascinating, to the young reader, tales they will come to treasure.
my son loves these books!.......2007-07-07
I've been reading to my son since he was two weeks old. He just had his fourth birthday, and I gave him this Magic Tree House box set. I thought he'd get bored pretty quick since there aren't illustrations on every page, but I was wrong. We read the first book in an afternoon, and he wanted to move straight on to the next one. We've since finished the first four and I've ordered the next box set, and while we wait we're re-reading the first four. Fantastic books!
Good starter book series.......2007-05-12
Good books to help me and my grandchildren communicate. We started a book discussion club. Great quality time.

Book Description
Baby Ernie is too big for diapers! He's ready to try out his brand-new potty. It may take a few tries, but soon Ernie learns he can use the potty all by himself!
Customer Reviews:
Cute story!.......2007-09-22
My daughter loves this book and reads it quite frequently. She still hasn't shown much interest in the potty though.
not much there.......2007-09-18
Baby Ernie is cute but this book was too short and simplistic for our 2-year-old. Hardly any text. It didn't offer much information. It's more like a baby's book, and babies don't need to learn about using potties! I've seen MUCH better books out there on potty-training.
Good help!.......2007-09-13
My son is off diaper after reading this book several times. It is one of the help if the kid loves Sesame Street.
Too Big for the Book.......2007-09-10
My very big boy thought he was too big to read the book, at first. Then he started agreeing with what the book was talking about. He has been trying to be a big boy for everything, except the potty. Now with the help of the book and Potty Power...he's got it!
cute.......2007-07-26
Very cute book. I did have to change the words to fit into what we were teaching our little one to call his body's fuctions.

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends--and much trouble--her way. Not a day goes by without some melodramatic new episode in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on, Anne declares her eternal antipathy for Gilbert Blythe, a classmate who commits the ultimate sin of mocking her hair color. Later, she accidentally dyes that same cursed hair green. Another time, in her haste to impress a new neighbor, she bakes a cake with liniment instead of vanilla. Lucy Maud Montgomery's series of books about Anne have remained classics since the early 20th century. Her portrayal of this feminine yet independent spirit has given generations of girls a strong female role model, while offering a taste of another, milder time in history. This lovely boxed gift collection comprises Anne of Green Gables, Anne of the Island, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne's House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla of Ingleside. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Favorites for nearly 100 years, these classic novels follow the adventures of the spirited redhead Anne Shirley, who comes to stay at Green Gables and wins the hearts of everyone she meets.

The Complete Anne of Green Gables Boxed Set.......2007-09-02
I was very pleased my books came very quickly. They were new so they were in perfect condition. The whole set of books were very reasonably priced, and I'm enjoying reading them.
Just love Anne Shirley!!.......2007-07-17
This series is the most wonderful and entertaining of books!
I got the first book from the library and fell in love with it, and so bought the series from Amazon. These are my favorite books, and I am on my second time through them.
The series starts off about Anne, an orphan girl, who gets sent from the Asylum and goes to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert of Green Gables.
Her life is filled with hilarious predicaments! Dyeing her hair, falling off the Barry roof, daydreaming and imagining to much, and plus, her rivaly with handsome Gilbert Blythe.
I highly recommend this series! I loved the rest of the books as much as I loved the first! Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote a masterpice! You will definitely fall in love with imaginative Anne Shirley!
Just like I remembered.......2007-07-17
This series is really great. I started from the first book and couldn't put them down. The story is just as intruiging and wonderful as when I read it the first time when I was younger. VERY VERY VERY enjoyable!
Light Reading.......2007-06-08
Read these books when I was younger and I loved them. Bought them for my sister who is 12 and she is really enjoying reading them. Actually don't mind reading them again myself.
Anne with an e.......2007-06-04
When my Grandfather was a boy he speant time on PEI on a farm located very near where Green Gables would have been. He bought this set for me long before i was able to read and they sat on my shelf until my high school years when i finaly picked them up. I had watched the movies with my Grandfather as far back as i could remeber and assumed the books would be worth reading. They quickly surpassed all other books and became my favorite.
Now, having just graduated college and looking for a litte direction and inspiration (like Anne I'm looking for work as a teacher) I picked them back up and have been rereading them. I feel like these books such life lessons that anyone with any beliefs can read them and learn good values.
These books and movies have always been like a comfert food for me these are the books and movies i read and watch when things are going bad.
I highly reccamend these books to people of al ages, they are well worth the time, and are a nice and easy read.

Book Description
ASP.NET 2.0 Programming: Problem Design Solution is aimed at describing, designing, and implementing a site much like the ones you’re probably working on or will be soon, while taking the opportunity to introduce and explain many of the new features that the new great ASP.NET 2.0 framework offers. Difficult problems are addressed head-on so you'll be ready for most of the problems you’ll typically face when writing a modern website, and have one or more solutions ready for them.
Unlike many other ASP.NET books that show examples for individual pages or features, the example in this book is an integrated end-to-end site (written in C#). The entire book and site has been written specifically for ASP.NET 2.0, to use the ASP.NET 2.0 features wherever they make sense.
The end-result is a website which features a layout with user-selectable themes, a membership system, a content management system for publishing and syndicating articles and photos, polls, mailing lists, forums, an e-commerce store with support for real-time credit card processing, homepage personalization, and localization. The book leads the reader through development of a site with:
- Account registration, personalization and theming
- News and events, organized into categories
- Opinion polls
- Newsletter
- Forums
- E-commerce store with shopping cart and order management
- Localization
Administration of a site will be covered including:
- Full online back-end administrative section, to manage practically all data from an intuitive user interface
- Site deployment
In building these site features, you'll learn these new ASP.NET 2.0 features:
- Master pages
- Theming
- Personalization & Web parts
- Membership & Profile modules
- Personalization
- The new server-side UI controls such as GridView, DetailsView, FormView, Wizard, MultiView, the new xxxDataSource and navigation controls, among others.
- The new compilation mode and deployment modes
- The new framework for instrumenting the site, as well as handling & logging exceptions
- The new ADO.NET 2.0 features (e.g. caching with database dependency)
- The new classes for easy distributed transactions Management
This book is also available as part of the 5-book ASP.NET 2.0 Wrox Box (ISBN: 0-470-11757-5). This 5-book set includes:

Customer Reviews:
A great idea, a very good implementation.......2007-09-08
When I ran across the 1.1 version of this book, I had hoped there would be an update for 2.0. I love the idea of the book - a complete project run from beginning to end.
Marco's explanations and examples generally very good and I feel like he accomplished what it looks like he set out to do with the book. The project used in the book is a solid foundation for learning about ASP.Net 2.0 covering a wide range of topics.
Generally speaking, this book has gotten a lot of use, whether looking for something specific that Marco did, an idea on how I might do something, or comparing notes on my approach vs the one in the book.
I am giving the book 4 stars (instead of 5) simply because I think he could have covered a couple of things in a little more depth and still kept the flow and feel of the book overall.
Good ASP.NET book but not for beginners.......2007-08-25
The title of this book should be *Advanced* ASP.NET Problem - Design - Solution. This is not a book for those new to ASP.NET (at the ASP.NET page http://www.asp.net there is a section that includes ASP.NET books divided by beginner and professional; very useful). This book is for the developer who has programmed at least 6 or so websites with ASP.NET and wants to get into creating forums, mailings list, profiling, allowing the user to choose their own themes/skins, etc. The author assumes you have a firm handle on ASP.NET (also on HTML, CSS, Object oriented programming, C#, SQL and SQL stored procedures, n-tier design of web apps, etc) and quickly moves into advanced programming with ASP.NET. I would rate this book highly because it does cover a lot; it's just not practical for beginners or even intermediate level ASP.NET developers.
Good reviews - bad book.......2007-07-31
I bought this book because of the rave reviews. Once I began to read, however, I found it disappointing. Explanation and examples are vague and/or incomplete. The author should be forced to take a basic writing course before he is allowed to write anything more then a letter. Shame on the editors for letting this type of document out under the guise of instruction.
The best book about Asp .Net 2.0.......2007-07-07
Some months ago Giuseppe Dimauro advised me about this book, saying that it is a relly good book and i bought it. I I have read it in two weeks.
What to say about the best book about Asp .Net 2.0 ?
Everyone will read it will understand something new.
Thanks Marco.
Highly Recommended.......2007-04-28
Thanks to Marco, I found this book helpful and recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the PRO ASP.net 2.0 profoundly.
Before start this book please read the following tips that can help you throughout the book:
1. If you are a beginner in ASP.net 2.0, try to read at least one ASP.net 2.0 book about ASP.net to be familiar what he does in this book. (Honestly, he did describe the controls, ... but people usually give up in reading when they cannot understand the materials)
2. DO NOT give up.
- If you do not understand what he says as a reader, just simply search the topic. For instance, I wanted to find out something in membership and roles and Marco just mentioned in one sentence and I could not understand it but after reading several articles I got it really great in just one simple sentence as he did in the book.
3. Read the chapters twice if you do not feel comfortable(I DID)
- Because of complexity that ASP.net 2.0 Pro has, some parts might be a little hard to find out, but keep reading and don't be worry, he usually explains the topics in several parts in the chapter, so you may find your answer at end of the chapter, even as a TIP which I did.
4. Download the CODES and practice it chapter by chapter
- One of the Wrox's forums user has done a great job by adding project's solutions all together chapter by chapter and it really helps if you want to practice it step by step.

My 5 year old son loves the books. They are short enough to keep his attention, but long enough to challenge his imagination.
Great Gift.......2007-05-12
I bought these for my 6 year old grandson for his birthday. He was excited to get them, but they were laid aside for the even more exciting toys that he received. However, as the toys got boring, these books became more entertaining. Currently he is immensely enjoying reading them. They are excellent beginning readers.
Great concept!.......2007-02-16
What an interesting idea for the kids to escape to a new imaginary world in each book -- at least that's what I gleaned from a very quick review.
great.......2007-01-19
These are great books that keep kids very interested and they learn things from them too.. the only problem i am having is getting the rest of the books in a box set that do not have the cd or cassette to them. I hate having to buy the rest seperately. I have books 1-12 in box sets. I cant find the rest anywhere in box sets!!

great touch and feel.......2007-09-12
This book has a great variety of colors and textures. The paint is actually sticky! I am very impressed by the varitey of materials and textures kids can explore in this book. We keep this book in the car to entertain my 1 1 /2 year old. He loves it. My 7 year old niece loved it too. She wants me to give it to her when my 1 1/2 year old is too old for it!! :)
My son LOVES this book!.......2007-08-13
This is one of a couple of books that my son adores. He loves all the textures in the book, especially the doll's hair on the last page. The colors are bright and vibrant. I actually just recommended this book to a friend of mine who is having her first baby.
My Nephew LOVES this Book!!.......2007-08-01
I bought this book for my nephew a month before his 1st birthday when his family moved into their first house. He LOVES this book. My sister says he's always pulling this book out of his pile of books & loves looking at it. His favorite touch & feel part is the sticky fingerpaint. I noticed in another review that they said the toothpaste didn't smell. I found it to be kind of like a scratch & sniff sticker; it didn't smell until I scratched it lightly with my fingernail & then I could smell the minty scent. I would recommend buying this book and plan to buy a couple more for other friends that have babies or small children at home.
Just good.......2007-07-03
Pages are not too hard... not many things to touch...
Bright colours and nice drawings.
It's OK.
My 10-month-old loves this book..........2007-07-01
My 10-month-book loves all books that are touch-and-feel, as most babies this age who are exploring their world with their hands. Bold, colorful images....great textures on each page. The only thing I am not crazy about is the rhymes...some seem a little like the author is "stretching it." Not a reading book, really, anyway, seeing as my daughter prefers to thumb through it herself and marvel at all there is to see and feel on each new page.

Magic treehouse 17-24.......2007-09-24
My son (age 5.5 years of age) and I both enjoyed listening to the stories told by the authors about 2 fictional characters named jack and Annie. The story line is very imaginative and my sn learns quite a bit just from listening to what the kids did int he stories. The stories are very educational and really stimulate my son's young mind to think and imagine. I highly recommend the complete series.
Magic Tree House CD Series.......2007-09-16
These are a wonderful alternative for my son who struggles with reading because he is dyslexic. We have discovered this to be a HUGE solution for the struggle of reading, he follows along with the CD and truly enjoys the books. I wish that more books could offer this, it truly is a "God sent" for us.
My daughter LOVES these!.......2007-03-23
After she reads these books, she still loves to hear the audiobooks over and over. She listens to them on her stereo with her iDog while she's falling asleep at night - a great alternative to radio (too much adult-oriented humor from DJ's in my area for a little girl to be hearing). Wonderfully told and entertaining!
Very Pleased.......2007-01-25
I was pleased with the compacted CD Holder that keeps the CD's nice and neat without taking up a lot of space. My 7 & 8 year olds love the stories and we use them as a reward for when their work is through. Mary Pope Osborne has a talent of writing and telling stories that present history and make you feel as though you're really there. It's relaxing to me as well and nice to know that my kids are learning and being entertained at the same time.
Magic Treehouse Books on CD - Great for long car rides.......2007-01-05
This collection served us very well on our last car trip. We've read all the books already, but the kids are still enthralled.

Book Description
For everyone who craves a simpler lifestyle, not only in how they live but also where they live, The Simple Home features 21 houses and presents six different approaches to creating a home that realizes its full potential both simply and elegantly.
We are living in complex times, in a commodified, virtual, and overstimulated culture. One response to high levels of complexity and overstimulation is to look for yet another gadget or closet organizer to simplify our lives. But the answer lies somewhere else. The road to a simpler more satisfying life begins with a clear-eyed examination of the choices we are making for our time--and that includes choices about where we want to live.
The Simple Home presents six paths to simplicity, each illustrated by human-scaled, unadorned homes with straightforward floor plans and forms. These are open, light-filled homes (with rooms or spaces that are often multipurpose) that express their beauty in their utility and practicality. Simple homes are low maintenance and often green, designed for homeowners who wish to embody a different set of values in their housing choices than the run-of-the-mill starter castles littering the landscape.
The 6 Paths to Simplicity:
1. Simple is Enough
2. Simple is Thrifty
3. Simple is Flexible
4. Simple is Timeless
5. Simple is Sustainable
6. Simple is Refined

Houses that live large for their owners.......2007-08-17
Wonderful case studies about 20 homes with good explanations about material choices, site considerations, and the people who own them. It's a Taunton Press book, so the photos are great, of course. I especially like the floor plan illustrations that support the photos and give a sense of flow through the houses.
Eye-opening book.......2007-08-04
This book is amazing! The pictures are great, and so well coordinated with the text that the reader can truly "see" each house. For anyone dreaming of a second home, or a more efficient first home, this is an ideal volume.
Defines the concept of a 'simple home' .......2007-07-08
Sarah Nettleton's THE SIMPLE HOME: THE LUXURY OF ENOUGH defines the concept of a 'simple home' and offers interior design tips to achieving satisfaction from a basic home design. This involves eliminating non-essentials and practicing restraint: six avenues to achieving a 'greener' lifestyle from this approach blends full-page color photos with comments on designs which refine and simplify the home - perfect for new students of interior design and homeowners contemplating reconstruction.
Great Book!.......2007-05-14
Wonderful pictures! This book has so many great stories of the home and how people really make their houses simple and comfortable.
Hmmm?.......2007-05-12
My copy came with many scratches on the dust cover and a broken binding when I opened the book. As far as the contents...I was expecting more of a layman friendly simple life-style type approach. Instead I felt like I was buying a book a self-contractor could use. My perusal indicated more about architecture as opposed to simplifying home content. Not a happy camper with this book. I returned it.

Marc Vassallo's The Barefoot Home should come with a warning label: "This Book May Cause You to Sell, Buy, or Remodel a House within Hours of Reading." Gorgeous photographs fill this book to the brim, and every page that is not covered with photos and mini house plans called "footprints" is full of smart, helpful, inspirational text. Vassallo wants you to read The Barefoot Home as much as he wants to enjoy the stunning layout. He lays out the ground rules in the first few pages in his chapter called "barefoot dreams," in which he asks readers to "Pour yourself a tall glass of something cool, sit back, flip off your shoes, put your feet up, and dream with you eyes wide open." If that doesn't convince you to check out The Barefoot Home, our guest review from the beloved architect, author, and "cultural visionary" Sarah Susanka surely will. --Daphne Durham
Guest Reviewer: Sarah Susanka
Almost 10 years after The Not So Big House came out, it's reassuring to see that houses really are starting to get smaller. Over the past year I've been interviewed time and again for articles describing a growing backlash against the mega-houses that have been built across the country in recent decades.
Houses aren't only getting smaller, they're also becoming less formal, a trend picked up by my good friend and coauthor (of Inside the Not So Big House) Marc Vassallo in his new book, The Barefoot Home. Marc hits the nail on the head when he says that we no longer need formal living and dining rooms--it just doesn't fit the way we live anymore. And we're spending just as much time enjoying the outside of our homes as we are the inside. In a barefoot home, you can feel like you're on vacation 365 days a year, a lifestyle that's much more in tune with the way we REALLY live today--at least when we're not at work.
I was lucky enough to be one of the very first readers to receive a copy of The Barefoot Home and as I leafed through it, I could almost feel the sand between my toes. Marc has assembled and described, in his inimitable style, 20 excellent examples of houses that are both Not So Big in form, and decidedly Not So Formal in function. As Marc recommends in his "barefoot manifesto," it's time to kick off your shoes, open up, embrace the sun, live outside as well as in, and adopt a barefoot state of mind. The lessons these homes have to offer are much needed by all who are disenchanted with "too bigness" in house design; and best of all, they're easy to implement, and often less expensive to boot. Anyone who is a fan of the Not So Big House series will almost certainly enjoy this book as well.
Book Description
As our personal and professional lives become more demanding and hectic, people have reacted with a more casual, relaxed, and open way of living at home. Kitchens are no longer just for cooking but serve as entertainment hubs; barbeques on the grill have replaced formal dinners. As our lives at home have become increasingly informal, the “barefoot living” lifestyle has emerged and there is increased demand to carry this attitude over into home design.
Relaxed, open, filled with light, and intimately connected to the outdoors, barefoot houses make living at home feel like being on vacation 365 days a year. The 24 houses featured in The Barefoot Home reflect today’s barefoot times. From a long, low house on the Kansas prairie to an adobe home in New Mexico and a New England cottage by the sea, these homes capture the essence of barefoot living.
Customer Reviews:
Surprised and delighted.......2007-09-27
We live in temperate Australia and hesitated long before buying this book. We have shelves of excellent architecture reference books from around the world and have been owner builders. Was it going to be just glam coffee table eye candy? The architect has worked with Sarah Susanka (Not So Big House etc), so we decided to take the plunge. This is a very good book. There is so much to look at, contemplate, re-visit. Brilliant resolution of details, houses that flow, small exquisite spaces, sound materials. We have had hours of enjoyment from this book and have been happy to share it with others to extend their knowledge of good architecture. Enjoy!
Barefoot -- informal style, for an informal life........2007-05-16
On first glance I agreed with many of the other reviewers: 'the book was slick', 'it was disingenuous', 'sure, if you live in a sunny climate, most, if not all, of the time'.
Then I went back and looked at the book again, and read the opening passage: he does not strive to be disingenuous, he tells us he himself doesn't live in a barefoot home, nor a barefoot neighborhood, but he is trying and the manifesto of the book is to entreat all of us to be more informal in our primary living space -- our homes.
Open the house up as soon as you can, get rid of all the stuff you don't need, make your home as casual as you can, and then enjoy it.
Think informal thoughts, and live in all the spaces available to you: the patio, the deck and never forget how good it feels to have sand between your toes!
He provides blue prints to the homes and he even lists the architects. Enjoy and live well!
Great Book!.......2007-03-26
This book is great for conversation and ideas. I leave mine on the coffee table for periodic inspiration...that of myself..and of others!
Barefoot, if it's summertime.......2007-03-11
I don't exactly get the barefoot concept. If the author had seen these homes in the wintertime, would he still consider them barefoot homes? Barefoot seems far-fetched and contrived in this book.
This book is a nice compilation of casual homes mostly in the country or at the beach. It's similar to other books on getaway homes. Beyond that, I didn't see anything particularly new or inspiring. It almost seems like the author (or Taunton?) was more interested in pushing the barefoot concept than providing new ideas.
Designed for wilder, more remote locations.......2007-02-15
This book is beautiful, the writing lyric and inviting.
But in looking for ideas for building our coastal home, I found that the windows and outdoor living areas were meant for homes in secluded or tree-sheltered locations, not on a city lot as our will be.
I highly recommend this book for those with more remote building sites.
