Book Description
This text for educational leadership courses presents a theoretical model based on the “best interests of the student” for examining legal and ethical dimensions of court cases. It:
*provides an examination of both law and ethics pertinent to all educators but aimed specifically at school leaders;
*introduces an ethical decision-making model that focuses on strategies for determining what actions are in the “best interests of the student”; and
*demonstrates the application of this theoretical model to practical, authentic situations arising from court decisions.
In the past decade there has been recognition of the need, as well as increased demand for, training courses in ethics for school professionals. The Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium standards for the licensing of school administrators require school leaders to possess knowledge of various ethical frameworks and perspectives, to be committed to bringing ethical principles to the decision-making process, and to be committed to developing a caring school community. These standards are reflected in licensing examinations for school administrators and in school leadership training program requirements as set forth by agencies such as the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This text is designed to prepare school leaders to meet these licensure requirements. It is specifically intended for upper-undergraduate and master’s level courses in educational administration, school leadership, and supervision programs, as well as courses in educational foundations and educational policy.

Exactly What the Title Says!.......2006-03-23
Apparently, at some point in the past, there was a book called, Boundaries Face to Face. Thankfully, Cloud and Townsend changed the title to something a bit more practical. Though I would never pick up `Boundaries Face to Face' I immediately picked up `How to Have That Difficult Conversation You've Been Avoiding With Your Spouse, Adult Child, Family, Boss, Coworker, Friend, Parent, or Someone You're Dating.'
Having a lot of opportunities to listen to people who are wondering how to have difficult conversations with others, this book will become a permanent, staple reference. It is simple, practical, and gives godly wisdom on the art of confrontation and communication.
Overall the book is great. I think a little more attention could be paid to dealing with people who refuse to stay on topic, but this is really a very minor point throughout the book. Overall, it is an excellent guideline for biblical confrontation with others and I would highly recommend it.

Confrontation 101.......2006-03-06
Does the mere word "confrontation" give you a stomach ache? If so, it may help to know that, according to Cloud and Townsend, the word literally means to come face to face with another person-- in other words, it is a positive relational term. This book gives practical, step-by-step advice on how to have difficult but vital conversations with people you are in relationship with. It outlines strategies for how to prepare, how to remain loving, and how to keep the conversation on track. Although it focuses on "big" conversations about matters that may have been brewing for a while, it is also useful for smaller, day-in day-out kinds of confrontations. Some people grow up in homes that encourage this kind of interaction, and some people grow up avoiding such matters. Cloud and Townsend give a biblical basis for operating in both grace and truth, just as Jesus came full of grace and truth.
This book is best understood in the context of the book Boundaries, by the same authors. However, it can also stand on its own.

A Very Helpful Book!.......2003-01-02
I check out this book every time I am going on a trip from my local library because it is very helpful and has wonderful tips! I really enjoy this book.
A cute book, a good help........1996-08-31
While this guidebook provides no earthshaking revelations to
parents, it is certainly a good tool for planning a happy
vacation. Its cartoon illustrations make it cute enough
to share with your children (my three-year-old was fascinated)
while the information is a solid reminder of what you may
already know but have certainly forgotten in the flurry of
packing. Penny Whistle includes an impressive list of games,
mostly targeted to the five to ten year old crowd, and some
interesting recipies. The listings of travel resources and
guides is excellent.
Book Description
How to Divorce Your Spouse Without Hurting Your Child
Every good parent approaches the painful issue of divorce with the best of intentions: you pledge to shield your child from adult concerns, safeguard your child’s tender feelings, and meet his or her emotional needs. You mean it when you say it, but divorce proceedings can and will test your resolve. Reality inevitably intrudes—fractious custody battles, foot-dragging, anger, resentment, financial woes. And the person who may suffer the most is the one whom you love the most—your child.
In the Best Interest of the Child, the first book written from the point of view of the one person in the courtroom whose sole concern is the welfare of the child of divorce, gives you crucial information to protect your child and avoid common pitfalls.
As an independent child custody evaluator with eighteen years’ experience, Dr. Stanton Samenow has interviewed thousands of parents, children, relatives, schoolteachers, babysitters, therapists, pediatricians, and family friends. He is familiar with worst-case scenarios, often having been called in to help families resolve child custody disputes after marriage counseling, mediation, and litigation have failed, and he has gained a uniquely comprehensive per-spective of what helps and what hurts children going through their parents’ divorce. In this book, he identifies what parents most need to know to act in the best interest of their child.
In clear, compassionate, yet no-nonsense language, Dr. Samenow shows the child’s view of divorce, what’s at stake in the shift from one household to two, and why parents must see it through their child’s eyes if they hope to act on his or her behalf. He’ll help you identify basic parental styles and how they affect the way you and your spouse handle divorce proceedings. He provides a succinct overview of the legal system to help parents find the safest way through, with suggestions for working with attorneys and dealing with courts and hearings. Finally, he distills his extensive experience in advocating for thousands of children into seven errors parents commonly make and seven guidelines they should follow to help their kids get through divorce and get on with their lives.
“Even loving, well-intentioned parents lose perspective in the emotional turbulence of divorce—and it’s always the children who pay the highest price. But separation, divorce, and resolving child custody need not wreck everyone’s lives. There are ways to minimize the grief, anxiety, frustration, anger, and dissipation of resources. If you know what to avoid and if you take the positive steps I recommend, you can spare your child and yourself an enormous amount of suffering. You can act in the best interest of your child.”
Which of the Seven Deadly Errors of parenting are you making in the midst of divorce?
* Do you denigrate the other parent?
* Do you use the phone, fax, or e-mail as a barricade in your communication with the other parent?
* Do you make your child compartmentalize his or her life?
* Do you compete for your child’s affection?
* Do you align other people against your ex?
* Do you expose your child to adult issues?
* Have you introduced your child to a new love interest too soon?
In the Best Interest of the Child will show you how to avoid these mistakes and help your child thrive during a painful time.

Greatest Book Period.......2007-07-27
I have to say it is an excellent book. I do not have any children, but a
lot of my friends do. Some are married and some aren't. I have convinced 4
of them to read the book and 3 out of the 4 finished. I learned so much
from this book. All my friends have said the same thing that I have after
reading the book. You are very clear expressing your point. That makes a world of difference in reading a book, is how easy it is to understand. I am into family law and this has to be the best book I have ever read period. Not just for a law book, but for any book, it has changed my life. It makes me
think about every step I take.
FATHERS HAVE RIGHTS.......2006-12-05
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to write this book. I wish I would have stumbled upon this book prior to my daughter's arrival. Currently, my daughter is 21 months old. If I would have had the knowledge in this book earlier, I could have made things a lot easier for myself and my daughter.
It's not over yet though . . .
Indispensable.......2004-10-23
For a non-custodial father, this book is tantamount to having a lawyer, a friend and a child-advocate at your becken call 24-7.
"Words From the Wise".......2004-10-18
Thank you for writing this book! The author put a lot of experience and thought into his writing. The information in here surely saved me time, money and anguish from what would have been fruitless efforts. Thanks for carrying this Amazon.com.
