GREAT NUTSHELL.......2007-01-22
I would HIGHLY encourage anyone taking Immigration law to purchase this nutshell. It succintly covered all the topics of immigration law and trendously helped in understanding this evolving field of law.
immigration law.......2007-01-10
i think that the book is very good, easy to read, well written and conveniently composed so that information is easy to be found
Good Overview.......2007-01-03
This book is better than average. It is a solid and thorough overview. I recommend it.
Great reference guide.......2006-03-02
I am a manager for a Federal Govt Agency. I found this book informational and easy to understand. Immigration law is a complex subject. The book is easy to read and addresses many important aspects related to this subject. The sections related to inadmissability, removal are well written and easy to understand. The chapters related to the history of various classes of immigrants was intersting as well. I would recommend the book for persons who want to expand their knowledge of this topic.
The book provides a good academic discussion.......2004-05-01
This book makes no pretensions to be the ultimate compendium for the practitioners in the immigration field. As the author points out in the preface, this book is meant to give you a brief overview of the subject. And that it did! It provides succint and stimulating discussions in many pertinent topics. Most importantly, the flow of the discussions is not bogged down by chaotic juxtaposition of law and facts that is usually usually associated with works written by the practitioners. In short, this book presents you with the picture of the forest rather than the individual shots of trees. I highly recommend it.
Book Description
Reliable source on the fundamentals of insurance law covers topics such as insurable interest, risk, insurer defenses, waiver and estoppel, recovery, subrogation, reinsurance, and bonds. In addition, expert analysis provides a sense of the peculiar directions insurance law would take, and their erroneous outcomes, if the pure principles of contract law were applied.

An excellent summary.......2004-06-04
I've taken Professor Dobbyn's insurance class, and let me tell you that everything he said there has been boiled down to very clear and concise points in this book. It's the only book on insurance you would ever need - a must for any student taking insurance law. From basic concepts of insurance to specific rules, this book covers everything.
Insurance Law - a Nutshell MUST for Insurance Law Students.......2000-06-15
A thorough and concise summary of the critical concepts of Insurance Law. An excellent supplement to Insurance Law texts and very handy as a quick reference tool.
Book Description
Expert authors summarize the principles set forth in case law and explore the philosophical foundations of First Amendment law. Current theories are examined to explain the rationale behind constitutional protection for free expression and freedom of religion. The debate between separationists and religious accommodationists in establishment clause jurisprudence is featured in this text as well.

Highly recommended.......2004-12-05
"Congress shall make no law...," but on this subject at least, the Supreme Court gets to do pretty much whatever it wants. First Amendment doctrine is notoriously serpentine and challenging. While this nutshell doesn't change that, it does explain the law in a crisp, well-organized fashion, with a good balance of case summary and explanation/analysis. The authors are concise without dumbing down the law. While there are big treatises out there for practitioners or for in-depth reference use (e.g., Smolla and Nimmer), there aren't very many First Amendment study aids out there. I think this one is the best.

Useful book.......2002-03-26
This book was somewhat useful, but I found it to be not as helpful as a Gilberts Law Summary. The "Nutshell" was, in some places, just as confusing and convoluted as the case book. But it was very helpful in assisting me to understand some of the basic concepts.
The Only Ad Law Book You'll Ever Need.......2001-02-09
The Administrative Law Nutshell was instrumental to my success in my administrative law class. Gellhorn and Levin (mostly Levin) provide a concise and careful analysis of the often-feared administrative law procedures. The authors provide step-by-step examples and supporting material to help the reader better understand everything from the general principles of administrative law to the dreaded state and local agency procedures. I still keep the Ad Law Nutshell in my office in case of emergencies. A great source for quick and clear answers.

Good for review but not as an initial learning book ............2007-06-23
I bought this book because it was a requirement in my Con Law class. However, I quickly found out that this isn't a book to use in order to actually learn Con Law. First, I just didn't find the book readable. I became lost in the cases and couldn't see the point the authors were trying to make. Secondly, although the book includes each major topic and the relevant important cases(s), the explanations on how this relates to the black letter of the law were difficult to understand. I agree with a prior reviewer that Chemerinsky's book is superior in this regard. So, if you are lost in the subject and want a guide to quickly bring you up to speed, this book will not help. However, if you've kept up in class or already have a basic grasp of the subject, this book is a decent quick review to refresh your memory (i.e., "I remember that now" - type of thing). I found this book much more useful after reading Chemerinsky first.
disappointed.......2007-05-12
I was pretty disappointed with this book... The book was not edited... The book was plagued with textual errors and poor structure... the explanations weren't helpful...
I'm a procrastinor myself, but seriously... just do the work and read Chemerinsky... he knows what he's talking about and knows how to explain it effectly...
One of the Better Nutshells.......2006-06-30
The Nutshell Series is great for law students who want a refresher in the days before a final. The Con Law book is no exception. These books sum up all of the main points in an easy read that's broken out by subject so you can easily skip sections you didn't cover in class. However, unlike others in the series, I feel this one actually provides a pretty clear picture of Con Law even if you haven't taken the course yet. Usually I recommend you wait until the end of the semester to plow through these in a day or two, but this one may be worth buying before class starts to give you an understanding of the topic from the get-go.
Great, concise review!.......2005-12-10
Ok, so I'm a little biased since professor Barron was my con law prof., but this book is great. It's a nutshell, so don't expect a whole lot of depth, but it does a great job of boiling down the basic holdings of cases and tying them together with a narrative. It was almost as handy as my outline during the exam.
Good Summary of Con Law.......2005-10-30
This book was extremely useful to me, because it boiled down complicated areas of law, such as justiciability, the commerce clause, and state action. It helped me to get a high grade in Con Law. Even though I am done with the class, I am still using the book as a reference for seminar papers that I am writing. I recommend it.

Some specialized matter that falls within this field has been omitted, such as the special problems in Oklahoma or New York, the serious problems of urban Indians, and the subject of the Native Hawaiians.

The Best Place to Start to Understand Indian Law.......2006-08-09
Although I understand the earlier reviewer's concern regarding anti-discrimination law and how miserable law school can be, I have found this book to be the best possible introduction to Indian Law. My law school offered no Indian Law class, and wanting to learn more after I read about the Cobell case, I needed a concise book. Canby has done a wonderful job. His historical introduction is a quick and engrossing read, and the other chapters in the book are equally clear and concise. I owe him much, given that I wrote two papers on Indian Law in law school and quoted extensively from him. Yes, Indian Law is a complex field where tribal sovereignty and the government's trust responsibility often collide and where concepts of jurisdiction and property are seriously muddled, but Canby gives you just what you need to get your legs under you, understand the basic concepts, and know where to begin to research from there.
If the Indian Law bug bites you after reading this book, which it likely will, then you can move on to the 2005 edition of Felix Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law or the 2005 Clinton, Goldberg and Tsosie American Indian Law manual - and spend the big bucks!
Don't sleep on this subject: It ain't easy!.......2005-09-29
I took Indian Law 7 years ago. I'm hoping this book corresponds to the Notes in a Nutsell for Felix Cohen's text. Indian Law didn't have those highly useful cliff notes on tape. It didn't have those cards with the questions on the front and the answers on the back either. So I needed this Notes in a Nutshell in order to survive. It was essential for writing an outline for the final. Indian law is no cute little topic. The rules that the US has used to jerk Native Americans and their tribes over are not easy to understand. This borrowed much from difficult subjects like civil procedure and property, rather than anti-discrimination law. If you choose to take this class, you will need this book in order to survive it. Then again, I'm a person who hated all aspects of law school, including the subjects that sounded like they'd be interesting.
good book from a wise justice.......2003-08-26
I had the rare pleasure of studiying this nutshell ( among many dreary ones in law school ) under Justice Canby at the anual human rights convention in Staousbourge in the early 90's.
Of all the nutshells I crammed for those last examns this was the clearest ( though most were very good. ) This once was actually better then most, but I detract one start in recognition of the fact that he was an amazingly charismatic speaker how could have made poor work seem better than it was, than anytime you have someone explaining what they meent it makes things clearer ( and also in rocognition of having another "nutshell" writer prof who sucked).
this Nutshell is well laid out, comprehanesive and interesting. Unlike some of the emanuale ourlines, it presents things in such a was as to encourage natureal reading and understading. I recommend it.
Great book.......2001-07-31
I took an elective in Native American Law at Whittier Law School in Summer 2001. This Nutshell book was the reading for the first day of class and we used a case book for the rest of the classes. I found Judge Canby's writing style very readable and understandable. I used the table of contents for a study outline and the civil and criminal jurisdiction tables were helpful at exam time.
American Indian Law in a Nutshell.......2000-09-13
I am currently designing an American Indian Law college course for an assignment at Iowa State University. This text has been extremly useful. It is a dense, informative, must-have for anyone going into or interested in American Indian Law, politics, federal law, historical law or American law. Canby presents legal facts with the historical and current American setiment of the American Indian. He also includes effects on and the general reactions of American Indians to laws past and present, politics are not excluded.

A must have for a criminal procedure class.......2000-06-13
This book is a clear and concise rendition of the law regarding criminal procedure. It includes all the cases that one would find addressed in a criminal procedure class. This book is worth its weight in gold if you are a law student. It not only substituted flawlessly for my textbook (which incidentally was written by the same two authors) but it was much easier to understand. The nuthsell series is one of the best outline series available in my opinion. I should point out however that the format is not that of a traditional law outline. It reads like a book rather than like a regular bulletted outline. However I found that the narrative format made it easy to understand the material. And unlike other outlines, this book can stand on its own for a quick overview of a topic rather than other traditional outlines which require some familiarity with the subject before the outline makes any sense. I would reccomend this book and this series to anyone who needs to learn (quickly) about an area of law.

Coverage includes judicial review, commerce clause and state powers, federalism, separation of powers, congressional and executive powers, and individual civil rights and civil liberties. Includes diagrams that aid understanding of the fundamentals of our system of government.

Not for you if you want outlines!!.......2005-10-06
This is like another textbook. If you are looking for a supplement to compliment the material, it is a very in depth examination of critical constitutional areas. It is not a book of case briefs.
Constitutional Analysis by Williams.......2004-06-01
This is an excellent work on the origins of Constitutional Law
and the various governing precedents and protocols. For instance,
a litigant must have standing in order to have a case considered by the United States Supreme Court. The concept of standing requires that the party have a stake in the outcome. The Constitutional legal apparati consists of the following:
o It establishes a national government.
o It controls the relationship between the states and the federal
government
o It defines personal liberties
o It contains provisos for the perpetual operation of the
government. i.e. the operation of law of the Magna Carta since
1215.
The basic pattern of the distinction between liberty and governmental power/prerogative is present in virtually all constitutional cases. The Courts are asked to set or interpret
the dividing line between liberty and the governmental powers of the states and the federal government. For a Court to overrule a previous decision/precedent-it must be confident that the
decision-making criteria in the past stare decisis is in error
or in need of substantial revision.
According to Justice Jackson, " The very purpose of the Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the Courts."
Overall, the work has a generous coverage of individual liberties and protections, the National Powers, State Powers, the Constitution, the process of Judicial Review, Intergovernmental immunities, the relationships between and amongst the states, inter-governmental and foreign relations.
The Constitution of the United States is published in the
appendix. This work has a wide constituency of users in government, the legal profession, journalism and a general concensus of users in academe.
Great Study Aid.......2004-02-06
Excellent study aid for tests and very informative for those interested in the rationale behind US Supreme Court decisions.
A Highly Useful Study Aid!.......2004-01-24
This is an extremely useful book for any first year law student. I have about every imaginable first year study aids, but by far this is one of the best on the market! Professor Baker does an outstanding job of explaining complex issues to the novice constitutional law student. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who would like to enhance their legal knowledge. It's also a very handy tool for final exam time!
Fantastic Supplement to Constitutional Law.......2004-01-18
Professor Baker's "Constitutional Analysis" is an excellent supplement to the study of first year constitutional law. However, I would recommend the book to any individual wishing to improve their understanding of the Constitution. The book uses common language and reads like a well-written novel. The Index and Table of Cases allow you to quickly locate any topic or case quickly and efficiently.
