Excellent book.......2007-08-11
This is an excellent book. Lots of great information, written in an easy to understand format.I just finished a class on spanish, and only after reading this book, and doing the excercises am I starting to really understand.
Spanish Verb Tenses.......2007-08-02
This is so good, the teacher thought I had someone of Spanish desent help me write my papers!! So I actually had to dumd down, a little, WOW!!!
Better When Used with Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs.......2007-07-01
As Spanish verb resources go, Practice Makes Perfect is almost as good as
Christopher Kendris's 501 Spanish Verbs.
When you have to go to Mexico on business, with no knowledge of Spanish at all, and with just two weeks to learn to speak the language, you do whatever you can to learn.
I bought and tried everything, including this book. It is good and I learned a lot from it.
My best results in verbs and expecially in learning to speak and understand the language came from Behind the Wheel Spanish by Language Dynamics. Great course.Behind the Wheel Spanish/Complete Illustrated Text/Answer Keys/8 One Hour
How I am successfully using this book to become more conversational in Spanish? .......2007-06-25
This book is fantastic for teaching Spanish grammar for verb tenses. It goes great with a Spanish verb conjugation book such as 501 Spanish verbs. One of the most interesting things about this book is the vocabulary that you will learn. I was only expecting to learn how to conjugate verbs with this book. But I learned Spanish verb conjugation and so many new vocabulary words that I was able to put to use almost immediately with Spanish speakers. The exercises were also fun to do, and I never felt bored when studying with this book.
Many people say that you should first learn how to speak the language and reach an intermediate conversational level before attempting to study the grammar from a book. I disagree. I have used this book with my favorite Spanish course, Learning Spanish Like Crazy, and I am very happy with the progress that I have made. And I feel that this book has helped me to develop a better understanding of "why" sentences are said the way that they are in Spanish. Learning Spanish Like Crazy is probably the best self-study course for learning authentic Spanish from this side of the Atlantic, but it left me with certain questions about using Spanish verbs. But I have been able to use this book to successfully fill in those gaps and become more conversational. If you are truly serious about speaking fluent Spanish, then you'll want to order this book.
A great resource for getting over the hump of verbs and tenses.......2007-06-12
I have taken 4 years of spanish in high school but I hadn't taken a class in over 4 years and had lost most of what I had learned. This is a great resource that introduces (or reintroduces) you to spanish verb forms and tenses. Memorizing verbs and conjugations is probably the most difficult thing to master in the Spanish language but this book makes it easy to comprhend. This is not an instant thing though. Learning any language takes time and practice but this book is exactly what you need to get you over that hump. I would reccomend pairing this book with an audio tape that teaches conversational spanish through dialogues. It allows you to put to use what you learn in the book.
Book Description
This bestselling book in the Practice Makes Perfect series treats Spanish pronouns and prepositions systematically in a worktext format. Containing concise, user-friendly explanations with generous and varied practice, the book helps students develop their knowledge of how and why pronouns and prepositions are used. Plus it encourages students to use the pronouns and prepositions in real-life contexts.
Customer Reviews:
great for anglophones.......2007-08-16
however I would have rather an all Spanish book on this topic since I find it easier to understand/comprehend Spanish grammar instruction, in Spanish
this book is a fine addition to my library and I recommend it
Amazing, but even Better with Behind the Wheel Spanish.......2007-08-14
I believe that if you do not know how the words are to be joined, then you cannot speak the language.
Prepositions are essential to learning any language, including Spanish.
Dorothy Richmond accomplises this task in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way.
I recommend that you use this amazing reference with Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs and text. In this fashion, you can get the 'hands on' practice you need while you drive, hearing the prepositions and pronouns being spoken by a wonderful native speaker in the comfort of your car.
Practice Makes Perfect does not have CDs so this is an excellent approach.Behind the Wheel Spanish/Complete Illustrated Text/Answer Keys/8 One Hour
A new learning experience.......2007-08-11
I have been studying Spanish for five years, for the most part independently, using CDs text books and other forms of learning tools. I had a good sense of the language and could converse in simple sentences, with a patient listener. The main reason I could not move forward at a greater pace was a lack of command of the subject matter contained in the book.
I teach English to immigrants and my current student speaks it better than most. She can tell me when I make mistakes in Spanish, but cannot provide the rules (not many of us think of grammar rules after high school). This book does that and achieves it in a fashion that I think is so "right on" that one cannot go wrong.
Thank you Ms. Richmond!
Great aid for Spanish 1 and 2 Students.......2007-08-09
I purchased this book to use during the Christmas break in-between semesters of college-level Spanish 1 and 2. It proved to be an invaluable tool. I was able to complete about half the book before the second semester started. It wasn't too soon thereafter that I realized that practically all of the topics covered in my Spanish 2 class I had already learned in Dorothy Richmond's book. She presents each topic in a logical progression, going from the known to the unknown. Short explanations with examples are followed by pages of exercises (with the answers in the back of the book.) For any serious student of Spanish who wants to get a jump on the language or stay sharp over the summer in between courses, or in-between semesters, this book as well as her other two books (She has one on verbs and another on vocabulary) are highly recommended.
Good for Beginners.......2007-08-06
I am through the first 7 chapters of the book and have learned a great deal. This is a great book for beginners in Spanish classes or those that are trying to learn Spanish on their own. I am part of the latter group and have found this material easy to learn and extremely helpful with the grammar rules associated with pronouns of all types. I am also working through the book on Spanish verb tenses. I am looking forward to obtaining other books and material from the Practice Makes Perfect Series.

sayHola dot com likes this book............2007-09-24
Our online course at SayHola dot com teaches you how to speak the Spanish Language but this book is a great tool for practicing and building Vocabulary. We recommend it.
Great Supplementary Learning Tool.......2007-05-18
First let me clarify by saying that if I could have given this 4 and 1/2 stars, I would have; it's ALMOST worth 5 stars, but not quite.
This book is an excellent learning tool if you already have a little bit of experience with Spanish going in. I bought it to use during a year off from school so I wouldn't forget the Spanish I had learned in my 100-level courses in college. If you do the exercises conscientiously and make an effort to really learn the material, this book can be an invaluable tool to your success in doing so.
That said, the only thing preventing the book from receiving 5 stars is that if you have no prior knowledge of Spanish, it can be a bit confusing going in, as the author completely separates the sections on verbs from those on nouns, adjectives, pronouns, etc. This is an okay idea, but it makes it difficult to complete some of the exercises in the earlier chapters if you don't already know how to use the more basic components of a Spanish sentence.
Still, I more than recommend this book, especially if you just want to brush up on Spanish you learned a long time ago and have since forgotten.
Good but too hard for beginners.......2007-05-07
I purchased this book hoping it would be basic enough to use. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but it will be useful as my Spanish ability improves. Since I am still a beginner in Spanish, I do not have enough vocabulary and grammar background to fully utilize this book now. I think it will be exactly what I need when I become a high beginner or low intermediate Spanish learner. It contains in-depth explanations and many examples. There are also many practice questions to put the new material to use.
Pretty good Spanish grammar book but . . ........2007-04-18
I rate this grammar book as very good. The most positive thing that I can say about this
book is that it is extremely comprehensive. It covers virtually every major topic of
Spanish grammar that a person learning Spanish needs to master. The only Spanish grammar book
that I found that was more thorough than this book is the Ultimate Spanish Review and
Practice. I did find the illustrative examples in this book beneficial, including the
fill-in exercises. But I didn't find the exercises in this book quite as useful as the
exercises in the Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice. With that said, I still recommend
this book as very good resource to learn Spanish grammar.
The only bad thing that I can say about this book is that it is not quite as good as the
other "Practice Makes Perfect" books (i.e. Spanish Verb Tenses and Spanish Pronouns and
Prepositions.) The format of the other two "Practice Makes Perfect" books makes them more
user friendly and easier to read on the eyes. This book would have been more helpful if it
had been written in the same format. In the future, I would like to see the publisher make
a revised version of this book using the exact same format that this publisher used for
Spanish Verb Tenses and Spanish Pronouns and Prepositions.
If you are the type that prefers to learn Spanish from an audio course instead of a book
then I'd recommend Learning Spanish Like Crazy. They use a natural-learning method that
helps you learn the Spanish grammar without realizing that you are learning Spanish
grammar. It's a lot like how learn grammar as a child. You can actually use both
resources together, this book (or the Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice) with Learning
Spanish Like Crazy audio course in order to accelerate your learning.
No problems, exactly what I wanted.......2007-04-04
This is exactly what I was looking for to help my practice my Spanish skills and prepare for my college class.

The reason people hate grammar.......2006-02-24
I returned this book because it annoyed me on the very first page. It starts with a discourse about the difference between proper and common nouns. The approach is very rule-oriented rather than real-world-use oriented.
Book Description
Master these two essential building blocks of fluency in Italian quickly and painlessly
Practice Makes Perfect: Italian Pronouns and Prepositions provides you with clear, detailed explanations and all the practice tools needed to master these two knotty elements of Italian grammar. Using many realistic examples taken from everyday life, author Daniela Gobetti takes the mystery out of Italian pronouns and prepositions and gives you plenty of exercises to reinforce what you have learned.
Customer Reviews:
Difficult to Finish.......2007-03-14
The subject matter is tedious to begin with so you can't fault the writer for that. I found this book very difficult to get through and I am not sure why. I felt that many of the grammatical and usage explanations were incomplete. I think there are numerous errors and inconsistencies in the answer key. I found the chronic use of the progressive tense annoying and more frequent than contemporary Italian usage. This book has excellent word lists and great appendices. When I finally finished, I pulled those pages out of the book, punched holes in them and added them to my Italian grammar notebook. If you actually write the exercises in the book, it will be a mess when you're done. If you plan on reusing this one, do the exercises on a separate piece of paper. You may need a dictionary to complete the exercises.
Very useful book.......2007-01-16
I am currently taking an Italian class. I am of Italian descent and am taking classes to learn the proper way to speak and write the language. I have found this book and Verb drill book very useful.

when i decided to buy this book, it was for many reasosn, the most important, it was in the way the writer explains all. Customer Reviews:
Fresh new cases.......2003-04-10
Clearly written by consultants, I appreciated the chance to get in more practice on case interviews. I'm hoping, after running through Ace I, II and III, that I'll go into my interviews cool, calm and collected. Not only did the first of the series really set a complete and thorough framework for how to approach cases, but it as well as II and III gave me a bunch of cases to practice on. That said, I realize that I could have bought I and II or I and III or that I could've just bought any one of the guides without really needing any one of the others to go ahead and try the cases. But I'm a big believer in doing as much advance preparation (especially in this tough job market) to nail an interview cold--so getting all 3 worked well for me. And i really, really liked reading through the bad and good answers for each case to help me figure out how to refine my own answers to the case questions. Thanks, WetFeet! Can't get enuf of 'em!
Practice DOES make perfect.......2003-03-04
This guide was a great follow up to the first two Ace Your Case guides. I studied up using all three of the guides. I've completed a first found of interviews and left them feeling like I had done really well. This was confirmed with the two call-backs I've already received.
There's no way around the case interview for management consulting and structured practice is the best and only preparation. These guides provided just that. I definitely recommend them.

Polish your Spanish vocabulary skills
Building on the success of her prior book, Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses, author Dorothy Devney Richmond helps you attain a strong working vocabulary, no matter if you are an absolute beginner or an intermediate student of the language.
She combines her proven instruction techniques and clear explanations with a plethora of engaging exercises, so you are motivated and hardly notice that you are absorbing so much Spanish. Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Vocabulary also includes basic grammar and structures of the language to complement your newly acquired words. "Vocabulary Builders" help you add to your Spanish repertoire by using cognates, roots, suffixes, prefixes, and other "word-building" tools.
Customer Reviews:
great for advanced learner.......2007-09-21
has many more words and vocabulary generalized groups than any other vocabulary book i have ever seen in spanish grammar. could save lots of time in looking for the same phrases in the dictionary
Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Vocabulary.......2007-08-10
The Practice Makes Perfect series of language books is extremely well thought out and invites the student to quickly learn the concepts as well as the grammar of Spanish.
Lifelong Learner in TN.......2007-07-29
As an adult learner, I really enjoy the "Practice Makes Perfect" series because is helpful not only for beginners to increase their language skills, but I frequently return to these books as a refresher text. I cannot agree with the reviewer who says that this book is a rush job, I've seen those books and they are lists of words without any meaningful context. Richmond has given significant attention to ser & estar and para & por that are especially helpful. She has a good sense of humor, and I enjoy finding the little jewels in her work, this volume even includes a recipe for a Harvey Wallbanger as well as its history.
FUN, easy to use and it DOES expand your vocabulary!.......2007-07-26
Speaking as somebody who is teaching themselves Spanish, I'd have to say that this book does what it claims and DOES IT WELL! USEFUL, ENTERTAINING, EASY TO USE and YOU LEARN VOCABULARY. Better than a dictionary and a whole LOT MORE FUN!
I also own the PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT VERBS, the PRONOUNS & PREPOSITIONS volume AND the COMPLETE SPANISH GRAMMER books in the series. Personally, I think this book is an excellant companion book and fits in well with the series. True, it doesn't have the LONG translation excercises, but it does contain LONG reading segments in Spanish which is, in my opinion, the best way to learn VOCABULARY! Believe me, YOU LEARN VOCABULARY when you read this book. I know today's "educators" frown upon rote learning and "memorizing", but, quite frankly, if you don't memorize anything, how much can you really know??? The reading excercises make your brain work on recalling the words from MEMORY. Sure, there's not a lot of long excercises which require you to write, but there ARE LOTS OF PRACTICE EXCERCISES.
I found the book to be FUN and ENJOYABLE. I'm learning a LOT and it's FUN, too! Unlike the Verb book, you can skip around from unit to unit. Read a unit while you're eating lunch or riding on the bus. Short sentence and phrase translations, fill-in-the-word, and true and false excercises mean you can do many of the exercises IN YOUR HEAD without the need for pencil and paper. Subject grouped word lists followed by reading excercises, short translations and T/F quizes makes your brain retain the words. And to achieve even a conversational level in any language, who would disagree that one must fill their memory with words??? You can read, study and use this book anywhere and anytime you have five free minutes. It WORKS, so I'm not sure I understand why it's not receiving better reviews.
It shouldn't be the FIRST book you buy in this series, though. I'd recommend getting VERBS first, PREPS & PRONOUNS second, GRAMMER third and this book AFTER you've used the others, as this book presupposes that you already have a basic grasp of how to conjugate verbs and construct a sentence. It DOES REVIEW verbs in general, ser/estar, reflexive verbs, por/para, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, and grammer--all the while introducting new words and how different, but related, words are formed through the use of suffixes and prefixes.
Not only will you learn vocabulary, but you might just find a few surprising tid-bits of knowledge about history, historic and contempory people, current events, religion, science and more!!!!
All in all, I'm VERY PLEASED with this book, and I give it FIVE STARS. It's USEFUL, FUN, and EXPANDS YOUR VOCABULARY--exactly what the publisher claims. It's also INEXPENSIVE and actually has 388 PAGES of text and exercises, 436 pages total (including the answer keys). For the price, you can't go wrong!
Not enough practice.......2007-06-13
I've just got this book and it is a good compilation of wordlists and some grammar rules but the main reason why I bought it is "Practice Makes Perfect" and this book doesn't belong to this series. I have "Verbs" and "Pronouns and prepositions" from this series and both of them have a lot of exercises and this one doesn't - just a few simple ones per each chapter. Like a regular grammar book and I have quite a few already.
This book has a lot of very useful material and if you are not looking for extensive language building exercises you will find this book useful, otherwise - look elsewhere.

Writing Better English : An ESL Workbook
ASIN: 0071426469 |
Book Description
Practice Makes Perfect: English Verbs offers ESL students an effective way to master English verbs. Concentrating on the three most challenging aspects of verbs--form, meaning, and use--it features comprehensive overviews along with exercises that present common regular and irregular verbs in everyday contexts. Students get to practice verb conjugations while gaining valuable insights into how context influences verb form in English.
Coverage progresses from basic verb phrases to more complicated forms, such as modal verbs and verbal complements, and includes examples of sentence constructions in which verbs play a central role, such as imperatives, conditionals, and passives.
Customer Reviews:
Good help for teachers and students of English as a Second Language.......2007-01-03
This is a good, clear text for structuring lessons for foreign students. While it is not a huge treaty (nor is it meant to be), it is to the point, with lots of exercises. Especioally helpful are parts IV, V and VI, refering to imperatives, passive voice, hypothetical conditional, phrasal verbs, modals, and gerund and infinitive complements. These last are subjects I have found difficult to find in other texts, at least with an easy presentation that can be understood by students of English as a second language. I have recommended this book to students in Chile.
