Book Description
Based on police wiretaps and exclusive interviews with drug kingpins and hip-hop insiders, this is the untold story of how the streets and housing projects of southeast Queens took over the rap industry.
For years, rappers from Nas to Ja Rule have hero-worshipped the legendary drug dealers who dominated Queens in the 1980s with their violent crimes and flashy lifestyles. Now, for the first time ever, this gripping narrative digs beneath the hip-hop fables to re-create the rise and fall of hustlers like Lorenzo “Fat Cat” Nichols, Gerald “Prince” Miller, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, and Thomas “Tony Montana” Mickens. Spanning twenty-five years, from the violence of the crack era to Run DMC to the infamous murder of NYPD rookie Edward Byrne to Tupac Shakur to 50 Cent’s battles against Ja Rule and Murder Inc., to the killing of Jam Master Jay, Queens Reigns Supreme is the first inside look at the infamous southeast Queens crews and their connections to gangster culture in hip hop today.

An Urban History Lesson....Life chooses you.......2007-08-31
I read this book in its entirety today. It bought back a lot of memories and pain. As a 38YO husband, father of 3 beautiful children, with a wonderful wife and 18 year IT career, I grew up during the 80's crack epidemic. I sold drugs. I was a crack addict. I watched childhood friends involved in the drug game die. I saw beautiful women become crack addicts. Even then, as a teenager, I wondered why something so small could cause so much destruction. This book reveals a lot. How drugs almost destroyed Urban America, in particular NYC. This book should serve as a history lesson to young people who view rappers as gangsters. "Real gangsters move in silence". This book should also serve as a reminder to people who survived the devastating decade that was the 80's. "Never forget where you come from".
It's easy for privileged people to dismiss the urban population; however when you have people that are disenfranchised, suffer abject poverty, and lack educational, creative, and/or financial opportunities; the majority will do whatever necessary to create opportunities for themselves, even if it means hurting their own. It's unfortunate that the crack epidemic was largely ignored until children of White America started dying.
Although the author highlights the exploits of particular South Queens drug gangs, I think the overall context of the book should be reviewed in a larger perspective: From the Civil Rights inequality, to government disenfranchisement, as a result of Vietnam, subsequent escapism via drug abuse, to opportunities via drug sales, to capitalism/exploitation via urban music.
This book should serve as a guide for kids that want to get involved in hip-hop/rap music (STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF. STOP BEING SOMEONE ELSE).
It should serve as a wakeup call to those (Music companies/Law Enforcement/Religious organizations) that want to exploit kids in the music game (STOP EXPLOITING OUR CHILDREN).
It should serve as a warning sign to all Black youth that murder each other for nonsense (STOP KILLING EACH OTHER. THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT US TO DO).
As long as there's a mongoose, there'll be a snake. As long as there's an audience, there'll be a minstrel. It's sad how life chooses you....
Excellent.......2007-01-31
If your from Queens, or you have listened to 90's rap, then this is a good book for you. It explains the litany of characters(criminals) mentioned in so much gangster rap. It is also gives excellent accounts of the "crack" years of NYC in Queens. There were so many locations in Queens, that I was stunned to find out the history of. Well worth the cheap purchase price!
Will The Snake Charmer Please Stand Up!!.......2006-10-24
I ordered the book last week and read it in 2 days. I feel like I'm still trapped within the pages. Looking at the picture of the author Ethan Brown I found it hard to believe he could get so many people to talk. No offense but the man looks like a skinhead. I did some research on him and found out he's not even from NY much less Queens which puzzled me even more because why write a book about Queens if you have no history or ties to the era or place? Then I see a dedication to someone he calls "the snake charmer" who he claims is the preeminent street historian. If the snake charmer is the preeminent street historian then Ethan must be his stenographer. For the life of me I can't figure out why someone with all this riveting detail would allow someone else to claim the credit in exchange for anonymous praise. The book was EXCELLENT but I want to see Ethan give credit where it's due because there's no way in hell HE could've done that book. Anyone who reads it and sees his picture will have to agree.
Read It ASAP.......2006-07-21
No matter what you're reading, put it to the side for a bit, especially if it's fiction. This is fact. Everyone from 13 to 43 should read this book. If you lived through the crack era you should read this book. If you grew up anywhere in the five boroughs of New York can identify, you can remember the stories, you can remember the fear you can remember the body count delivered on the front page of the newspaper. If you remember being afraid to ride the trains and welcomed the site of the red tams you should read this book.
Brown impressed me with the thoroughness and professionalism of his work. He didn't try to sell us mythical figures or misguided youth. He simply told the story as it was, as it is.
If you have African American youth in your life give them this book. Buy them their own copy; make them read it because they need to know. The youth of today weren't there in the 80's and 90's. They think the rappers they like are "gangsta". No matter how hard you try to tell these kids that you can't be a multi-millionaire rapper and gangsta, what you think the police wouldn't notice. Real ganstas hustle to get out of the ghetto and are hardly concerned about keeping it real. I say all that to make this point...Queens Reigns Supreme is the book that can challenge a generation to question the direction that rap is going. This is a book that can open eyes and cause a life changing thought process. The revelation of a number of things in this book will have you seeing things in a new light. If you never invested in a book starting with this one would be a good choice.
The Realness.......2006-06-23
This book is not a fictional "hood" farce as I initially thought upon seeing it in the store. After reading the abstract on the back cover, I was compelled to read the Preface and first two chapters while still sitting in the store. I purchased the book and read it in less than 48 hours. I literally could not put it down. It is filled with the TRUE stories of Queens hustlers like the Supreme Team and Pappy Mason. These are hood icons that you may hear about in a rap record but never know who they really were. This book does an excellent job of conveying the street savvy and relentlessness of these hustlers who amassed millions as well as carefully cataloguing their down fall. There are times where you read the book and almost hear these figures talking to you or reading what was going through their minds at the time. You see them on top of the world as well as at the bottom of the barrel. You see them as violent and fearless as well as seeing them desperate and vulnerable.
The connection that is drawn to the current hip hop music and culture is drawn seemlessly. There are a lot of familiar names and some unfamiliar stories. Some truths come out and we see who is "gangsta" and who's not. This is a must read for anyone interested in Urban History/ Culture.

Time Consuming but Worth It.......2007-08-07
I have never made any type of cake like this before and decided to try it after looking at this book. I made the fairy toadstool cake which you can see on the back cover (and my picture above). I guess this was my "neurotic mom" birthday project! I was planning an enchanted woodland fairy party for my daughter's 4th birthday and couldn't find any other cakes that I liked. I found that I needed a lot of tools and materials before I could start, so the preparation took some time. All of the instructions were very clear though and I just followed them step by step. It took me a few nights to finish it and everyone was really impressed. The cake itself did not taste that great but I just added ice cream and everyone was happy.
Super Cute!.......2007-06-12
This was a super cute book with tons of adorable ideas! My daughter and neice absolutely loved the cakes I made for them from this book! I get a lot of other great ideas from Vondre and Andreaetta at Sell Cakes Like Crazy on the Internet!
50 Easy Party Cakes.......2007-04-08
This book has loads of great ideas for beautiful birthday cakes. I haven't tried making one yet so I don't know if they're easy. But I will surely be using one of the ideas for my 2 year olds up and coming birthday.
Debbie Brown is the greatest!.......2007-04-06
I am a fan of all of Debbie Brown's books because she does amazing work with fondant. The original designs are always crowd pleasers and images you can actualy recreate when you follow her instructions. Please keep your books coming Debbie.
Great ideas!.......2007-03-28
When I reviewed this book with my niece she told me she wanted me to make ALL of them for her birthday...The ideas are great! The only thing I didn't care for is the madeira cake recipe in the book. Too dry and heavy for my taste but a sponge cake recipe will do. All in all a great book with great step by step instructions.

You'll never fall into the tourist traps when you travel with Frommer's. It's like having a friend show you around, taking you to the places locals like best. Our expert authors have already gone everywhere you might go--they've done the legwork for you, and they're not afraid to tell it like it is, saving you time and money. Every Frommer's Travel Guide is up-to-date, with exact prices for everything, authoritative cultural coverage, and dozens of accurate maps. You'd be lost without us!
An in-depth and extremely personal guide written by an experienced China traveler, Frommer's China: The 50 Most Memorable Trips brings a new approach to the standard guidebook formula. China is still unfamiliar territory to most travelers, and other guides are a daunting 1,000 pages long--readers are overwhelmed with too much information when they first try to decide where to go. Our guide, however, chooses the top highlights, and our author describes his own experience at each destination, in a personal and highly entertaining article. Each piece is then supplemented with all the practical details you need to plan and replicate the author's experience if it appealed to you.
You'll also find gorgeous color photos that bring to life the majesty and diveristy of this vast country, plus a Chinese character key, valuable cultural insights, and practical information on everything from transportation to etiquette.

Amazing secondary guide.......2007-10-08
Seasoned travellers know that you can't go to a country where you don't speak the language without a translatable dictionary and a guide that just lists sites and hotels - Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Let's Go, Rick Steves. But, true insight into a country and it's travel secrets cannot be found in a list of accommodations and things to see. To this end, the aforementioned guides offer little.
This is where 50 Memorable trips comes in. It gives you a walk through a town with commentary on hidden places and eateries so all you do is follow the path on the maps provided. We even used this hiking several mountains and the maps proved invaluable. Since the book is about a person's experience, of course it showcases the author's frustrations but also his sheer amazement and delight. As we got stuck on the top of Huang Shan after 5 hours of hiking, we were overjoyed that at least we got beds and a roof over our head, unlike Mr. Brown and his night on the mountain. His accounts are real experiences, both the good and the bad, creating a connection with readers and their own journey.
Other reviews are misleading - not a good choice.......2005-03-25
I bought this guide book over the others, including Lonley Planet, based on these reviews and those of Lonely Planet China on Amazon. My experience is this is a fine book to read before you go to China, but a terrible guide for navigating your way through China.
I just returned from spending a month traveling to different cities. This book is heavily biased and does not allow the reader to make informed decisions. The author clearly has an opinion about everywhere to go and what he thinks, but the book doesn't give the reader a chance to disagree. You could very well miss out on some wonderful aspects of China b/c this book is not as comprehensive as others and you wouldn't even know you were missing out. Also, I wasn't happy with recommended hotels and restaurants as they are all quite pricey. Plus, there are many discrepancies with other Frommer's books (which this one is a part of) - for example, there is a vegetarian restaurant in Shanghai the author recommends highly which is called overrated by the other Frommer's book. And the other book is actually more correct.
This book also assumes a certain level of experience with China. I had not been to China before and found travel suggestions ridiculous. For example, he says you should be able to get on a bus yourself at some obscure corner to go to the Summer Palace from Beijing, and scoffs at those who would choose otherwise and get ripped off. Well, if you speak and can read Mandarin Chinese, then that is fine. Otherwise, in a city where taxi drivers do not speak English, getting somewhere on a bus is nearly impossible.
I would just like to warn anyone going to China b/c you do not want to be left there without a good guide book. It is so critical to have good directions that are user friendly and objective. Otherwise, you will end up trying to find a better book when you get there and be frustrated along the way.
An almost perfect guide to China.......2003-04-18
I have lived in China for most of the past year and travelled extensively in China for the past five years. Often on my travels, Brown's book is a trusted companion when visiting one of his 50 sites. His insightful and personal accounts of his experiences are both entertaining and educational. What I like most about this book is that Brown likes China and appreciates its differences. This is not true of all guide books, especially Lonely Planet's China who delights in complaining about just about everything. Unfortunately, for guide book writers, China is changing so fast, much of Brown's information on hotels and restaurants is out of date. Restaurants and hotels sometimes disappear and new ones take their place. With that one exception, I found his information to be accurate and useful. Whether you are an old hand in China or making your first trip, this book is a must buy.
China Seen Through Chinese Eyes.......2002-08-08
This is the only English tour book I've found so far that looks at China through Chinese eyes. The author weaves a tapestry of place in China, providing a glimpse at the rich history and culture that surround each memorable spot. When seen through the author's eyes, China shines with a an ancient aura unexperienced by most tourists -- like a beautiful rainbow that can only be seen from the right angle.
The author mentions famous poets, painters, historical figures, religious hagiography and provides a glimpse of the sweep of dynasties. The text evokes China's fascinating past with snippets of famous Chinese poems, insightful historical references and pointers about books that will widen your cultural horizon. His sense of awe and majesty bring back a sadly fading dimension that has been purged by the current regime, and is all too often lost in the glossy world of tourism literature.
While this book also can be used as a how-to-do-it guidebook, it's true value lies in providing tantalizing panoramas of time and place in China. My only wish is that the author would provide even more cultural information, so that what we see during our visits would be somewhat closer to the rich, captivating landscapes the educated Chinese person sees. Even with this book, so many spots of immense historical and cultural significance are simply beyond the ken of most travelers. Sadly, without books like this one, a visit to China is akin to going to a 3-D movie without the special 3-D goggles.
Great selection as a collaborating guide for China........2001-06-08
In Frommer's China expert J. D. Brown gives us more of a travel log than a travel guide, which in this case is a refreshing change. Very few people have seen China as extensively as J. D. Brown. His recording of his actual experience at each of the 50 destination will stimulate new itineraries for you to consider. Brown states, " In this guide I've recorded in as frank detail as possible 50 of my most memorable travels in China."
If you are going to Cruise the Yangzi River (Three Gorge Dan) this is is best description in a travel book available today. Also superb is his "Great Wall" write up. Brown's `Summer Palace' write up, while good, criticized the British and French for their terrible act of destroying the original palace, but said nothing of the destruction caused by Mao's henchman.
His recommendations for accommodations often have web site address and email (an important additions that many other guides omit), and Brown's restaurant and hotel recommendations are reliable and commendable.
On the weak side this 'travel log' lacks the interesting information that is found in other guide, i.e., understanding of Mao's Communist China, Tiananmen Square commentary, modern China, etc. The accommodations and dining recommendations are very light and maps are few and far between.
What Brown has done is give us a valuable supplement to use in conjunction with your China travel guide (see my reviews on Rough Guide China and Lonely Planet China for highly recommended guides). Again this is not my first choices in guides for selecting hotels, restaurant etc. BUT it is often my first choice for descriptions of select sites and my first selection as a collaborating guide to supplement my primary guide. Highly Recommended.

The Pretox to Detox.......2007-04-09
By now, Dre's musical influence acting as a template for other Producers has grown to such a common knowledge in the industry that it doesn't need saying anymore. However, one point that could stand a little more attention is how dre has single handedly managed to turn rap into a Producers game on the mainstream level. Prior to Dre's celebrity, producers enjoyed the limelight either in their own circles, on the undergroud or in front of the camera if they were the song and dance type. But after dre, suddenly everyone is checking to see who produced what song. This is not to say that DJ's were anonymous all this time, but certainly Dre has pushed our recent facination of them into the spotlight.
Part of this facination has raised the question: "What is it exactly that Producers do?" Lesser known producers have tried to answer this question and more often than not we are left unsatisfied. Maybe because what we are all really wondering is "What is it exactly that Dr.Dre does?" And that's where this book becomes what most fans, inquirers and even skeptics have been waiting for.
First, it might be helpful to describe what the book isn't: It isn't current, though you can tell it wishes that it was. This book apparently was not a passport inside the studio while Dr.Dre works his magic. So you're not going to find a recent, first hand account of Dre orchestrating, producing, conducting, coaching or guiding his musicians and artists. Descriptions like that happened after the Chronic, when a journalist described Dre taking a sample and re-shaping it with his own sounds. BTW, this early description is recounted in this book. But it's not clear if this is how Dre still crafts his beats. Surely his production methods have evolved.
You also won't find any new material or interviews with the man himself. But this is a mild dissapointment that passes when you realize that the author has taken the time to make a gumbo soup of quotes that came from the people who have worked with Dre over the years. Like the Ronin-Ro biography, most of these quotes are blow backs from interviews I read already. But having various sources under the same roof validating each other should at long last bring closure to some of the controvesy surrounding Dre's studio habits.
The most helpful and insightful pieces to this book are the quotes from the "2001" co-producer Mel-Man. His interviews and excerpts are entirely new (as far as I can tell) and save the book from being nothing more than a re-hashing of old information. Mel confronts and conclusively answers all those lingering questions about Dre stealing credit from other producers and more importantly what it is that a Producer like Dr.Dre does exactly in the studio. It helps that Mel's response are concise and well articulated -- a big relief compared to the choppy responses we usually get from rap artists. Mel-Man's contributions to this book alone justify the cost of this book.
Those who have been anticipating the release of "Detox" will be even more anxious once they get through the last chapter of this book. Both Mel-Man and Scott Storch give some curious clues as to what to expect for Dre's last and most anticipated body of solo work yet. According to Storch, the results heard thus far are overwhelming.
This is definitely a book to have. Aside from a few embarrassing typos (which made me wonder if I had been sent a working copy), I was really satisfied at the end of my read. This is probably as good as we're going to get until Detox hits the streets, at which point we won't need a biographer since the music will undoubtedly speak for itself.
Product Description
In terms of keeping it real both with his own child and with his fans, 50 makes no apologies, and offers only honesty about what he did to reach the remarkable pinnacle he has attained at 28 years of age, almost a decade removed from his prison sentence for crack dealing, and a lifetime from where society statistically expected him to end up. EVERY DETAIL OF 50'S "LIFE ON THE EDGE" IS COVERED in such chapters as: "50 Cent: The Rebirth of Tupac on Hip-Hop", "Get Rich or Die Trying", and "G-Unit".

Nothing but a collection of information snippets.......2007-09-18
Just finished reading 2 chapter excerpts on Google Book Search and am already fed up. This is a book I could probabely write myself after pursuing my ongoing research. I doubt Jake Brown has ever spoken to 50 Cent. All the information given seems collected out of interviews, news releases and reports, publicly known information, police reports and mixed together into a 'disclosure' book. I have not found a sinlge information I did not already know. But what I've found were a number of errors: The shooting took place at 11:22 AM, not "On the night of May 24, 2000, while sitting in the backseat..." (be aware, this little error is the first sentence of chapter 9 ...). How this happens? It's just one example of writing when you don't know what you're talking about and rely on google results which you fail to interpret correctly (the police system printout uses the 24hr time scheme BTW).
He keeps on writing that 50's grandma called 911 for an ambulance... huh, little invention here? Everyone knows that the driver (Curtis Brown) was still able to steer the vehicle and they drove themselves to Jamaice Medical Center. Very surprisingly and funny, this exact sentence is unquoted (missing) from the reprint of the MTV.com News report quoted at the head of the chapter...
Nothing new about the injuries and the surgery also, all he found in google it seems was the lawsuit of Dr. N. Paksima vs. 50 Cent regarding the payment of the hospital bills. This is all what is being delivered as information about the surgery. Awesome news!
If that is the kind of journalism and research you're into, go ahead, buy the book. For people who didn't do the research I did, there may be a few new things to find out. However when coupled with assumptions and guessing and misinterpretation of clear and solid facts while throughout the book giving the reader the impression he was talking to Fifty about all those things all the time, I feel nothing but being deceived.
I was tempted to give only 1 star but I credit the author for collecting a lot of information, so it's 2 stars. Still a bad performance for all that work.

Easy to Read.......2004-09-01
Having been in the pool business for 25 years, I know how busy and hectic daily routines can be. Reading a book is the last thing I have time to do. Business Security is loaded with great subjects that I can look up and read only a few pages to learn what I need to know. I feel safer with the knowledge I've collected from the many different articles offered in this realistic, post 9-11 based book. I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether business related or not, to use as a "security dictionary" whenever the need arises.
Great reference.......2004-08-16
As a security consultant and author, I found this to be a great reference that I refer to again and again. This is a great read for both large and small business owners who understand their responsibilities in a post 9/11 world. Nice Job!! Robert Siciliano

Pickles and peanut butter?!!!.......2004-07-26
Perhaps my tastes are a bit less adventurous than I thought. But whenever I read the recipe for a Pickle and Peanutbutter sandwich, I almost died laughing. (In case you are interested: 2 slices of bread, spread with peanut butter and sandwich 4 pickle slices between them.) Sounds more like a pregnancy craving than something I would serve to my children or myself. Nothing really struck me in this book. Lots of fairly unhealthy fare.
Fun Eating!.......2001-06-23
A fun way to spruce up your lunches! Good ideas for getting rid of the old peanut butter and jelly and trying out some new ideas for nuitritious lunches. Well written and concise, with some unusual combinations for lunch!

Effective COM opens with a chapter devoted to the migration from C++ to COM programming, presenting five "attitude shifts" that C++ coders need to undergo to program successfully with COM. It starts with a discussion of defining interfaces in the Interface Definition Language (IDL), and then moves on to a discussion of the unique distribution challenges of COM-based systems. The authors also discuss other differences, such as exception calls.
The next chapter presents tips pertaining to the all-important interfaces in COM. Both the big picture and some precise details are covered to help you implement your interfaces safely, as well as the implementations and the particular challenges that COM presents. The authors emphasize "defensive coding"--pointing out dangerous assumptions and offering suggestions for producing reliable components.
Apartments, security, and transaction management are addressed in succeeding chapters. As with the previous topics, they are handled via a series of specific tips and suggestions. If you're new to COM programming, you should read some more introductory texts first, but if you've already experienced your baptism by fire into the subject, this title can help ease future pain. --Stephen Plain

A good COM book.......2007-06-17
This book borrow the format that made the Effective C++ popular. It presents 50 tips on COM. Its targeted audience is developers that have been using COM for a while. Prior knowledge of COM is expected for reading this book. In general, it provides very good tips but the only exception is the section about MTS. Maybe the tips are good but I do not know as I have never worked with MTS. That section contains 8 tips of the 50 tips of the book.
Read this book after Essential COM.......2003-07-31
Essential COM explains how COM really works but when it comes to specific problem you can't figure out what is the best solution to it. Effective COM goes further and presents good COM programming practices. It also clarifies some material from the former book that has not been explained in sufficient depth or lacks specific examples. However the chapter about security is not sufficient. If you are interested in COM security you must read another excellent book "Programming Windows Security" by Keith Brown.
Demise of DCOM.......2002-01-25
This book was meant to help readers do DCOM more efficiently. But after learning about the gory details and ever-shifting underlying plumbings which may well defeat all one's efforts, the only conclusion is DCOM should never be hyped. Java and .Net are the far better solutions. Don't even mention the DCOM security stuff that make it a hell across domains.
Hey man, you should told us that DCOM deserve to be dead at the beginning. :-(
COM is for desktop, period.
Best Practices for COM Development! Very practical!.......2001-02-01
Your looking for a book that will make you a more productive COM developer, get this one immediately.
bark like a dog you bird........2000-10-04
I am one cheap programmer. I've survived, most of my 11 years buying less then 20 books (employers bought the rest). However, com objects made me loosen the purse strings. To use com objects from ASP scripts I found the following references NECESSARY:
OREILEY book on ASP,
OREILEY book Learning dcom,
Oreiley book on VBScript,
Oreiley book on Developing ASP Components.
I've also noticed, that the books really do not overly overlap that I would consider any of the books a waste of money.
I found with the knowlege in those books I could (and did) create COM objects for use from C++ and ASP scripts. It was after READING the first 154 pages of this book (Effective Com...) that my com objects went from functional to being a work of art. (Ok, I'm overstating it).
Things that should be obvisous can get lost in the complexity of com. Effective com looks at what's bad and good about com, and that knowlege is power after your basic com skills have been established. I'm not sure I would want to pay full price, but amazon has a good price on this book. Enjoy and have fun!

Book Description
A philosophical and historical exploration of why accounting is central to any society based on commerce.
The book tells the story of a charming 50,000-year-old family of hunter-gatherer-recordkeepers - the Thogs - who describe how they invented or discovered the essential elements for measuring economic activities. Their story reminds today's accountants and those involved in financial reporting that the past holds much accounting wisdom for the future. While it is a work of scientific fiction, the story in general is historically accurate. Writing and arithmetic, for example, were first invented for bookkeeping.
In telling their story, the Thogs teach a team of real-life cutting-edge complexity scientists how back-to-basics accounting is vital to their agent-based economic modeling. Together, Thogs and scientists offer a glimpse of how to reformulate economics using ideas from physics and biology. The book is a light-hearted read, but it suggests that a serious breakthrough is on the horizon: the ability to test the consequences of our financial and accounting regulations in virtual reality before trying them out on you and me

An Amazing Accounting Book.......2005-05-21
This book is a "great read." It tells in a creative and charming manner the story of how accounting came to be over the course of tens of thousands of years. Accounting students will enjoy it because of it's fresh approach.
But that's only half the story. At another level, there are some fairly important ideas that lie behind this book, which will be evident to all who peak into Dr. Z's backpack and read some of these pieces.
By using simple examples that resemble parables, this book describes how humans devised an economic institution with powerful and far-reaching consequences. The juxtaposition of historical narrative with the ongoing experimentation in complexity science is extraordinarily creative. And, the book offers a different perspective on modern accounting standard setting in the process. In sum, I've been reading "accounting books" for 30 years, and this is an exceptionally interesting one. This is definitely worth a look and very likely a careful second reading as well.
To understand why we need accounting.......2005-02-25
This book is a great read. For anyone who wants to understand why accounting is very necessary. Easy to read--each chapter is short and makes a new point the reader had not thought about before.

Product Description
50 Years After Brown: The State of Black Equality in America is a historical analysis of how African American have sought to obtain equality in the United States since the United States Supreme Court rendered its a landmark decision in the case of Brown vs. Board of Education banishing the last vestige of legal inequality, "Separate But Equal" de jure segregation, from the Constitution. This book examines whether equality for Black America has ever been a reality, or nothing more than a 225 year pursuit in racial disorder.
