Excellent Study Guide.......2006-11-13
I purchased this book and studied from it about 2 months prior to taking the NREMT-P Exam. I passed on the first try. Would highly recommend to anyone that is preparing to take the exam.
Great Study Guide!!.......2005-09-22
The review book is an excellent prep for the National Registry Paramedic Exam!! Highly recommended to all Paramedic Students!
Great Paramedic Review Book.......2005-08-13
This book is great if you need to review for a Paramedic Exam. The book is excellantly divided into sections based on the type of injury/illness etc. The book has many of the same questions as the National Registery Exam and state exams. The book also comes with a CD for further review. Thanks in part to this book I have my NREMT-P certification.
Great Review Book.......2005-07-25
This book has a lot of specific information, but the best part is it is tied to the reference book from class, when you miss a question, it tells you where to go in the book to get the correct answer. Very helpful!
Who remembers all this stuff..........2005-04-28
I bought this with the Marchetta book and the combo worked well (I passed on the first go around), although I was sweating going into the test because I could barely score passing scores on the subject sections in this book. This book is based on the Brady text and like most review books, it hits on the most archane details that when taking in such a large subject, unless you just read it, you probably would not remember it. It is a good review that, combined with the other book, if you study and study early on, should do OK. But do not expect to remember all this stuff.

Great in-depth pre-hospital book........2007-02-05
Gives you in-depth information into the various aspects of pre-hospital care. Top notch.
good study book.......2005-10-10
This workbook is a very good study tool for paramedic school. I would recommend every student to purchase this book.
Wishy Washy.......2005-05-05
I found this book helpful in some aspects, but it definetly condradicts itself all over the place. In one place, it says that neonatal compressions are to be 5:1 and in another place it says 3:1 - as for my class tests, my teacher used the test manager that came with it, AND we learned 3:1, so I knew that was the answer, but nationally, when I write my certification exam, I dont know what they want to see, because my text book didn't teach me much! It was really easy to look up definetion and the algorithms were good and such...as well as the pictures from actual (or simulated) paramedic calls. But as for the contradictions and spelling mistakes, I can't give this book a very good rating. I highly suggest you invest in another book, it just isnt worth buying this book.
Essentials of Paramedic Care....Tragedy, or Not?.......2004-12-29
Well it is true that I have found a few typos already, and that was in the first few chapters. However, after reading the reviews I can show you quite a few typos. This book is good and it was the book of choice by my Paramedic instructor, because he wanted a book that was writen by a real medic, not just a former medic that is now a realestate agent. Anyways, even if the book has errors in it, remember that the most important instruction tool along with your book is your INSTRUCTOR, and how he or she instructs you. The book gives great concepts, knowledge, and how to apply those both to the field. I believe it will be a great preparation for lectures and where I can bring up questions to my instructor. You can't blame your not being prepared for the National Registry test on a book, it is based on you. Here is my advice, if you have a problem or question from the book. "ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR ABOUT IT." They are the ones that will set you on the right track, That's why Paramedic courses aren't independent studies. Anyways, I believe when I get done with school I will be ready to hit the streets. I believe this book will help me get there, with the help of my instructor of course.
It looks nice.......2004-12-05
I just purchased this book, my class uses Mosby's book.. I don't care for that book and I only glanced through this one... It looks nice, I just wish I would have read these reviews first
Book Description
The Streetmedic's Handbook, now in its second edition, is a concise field reference that presents essential information for pre-hospital emergencies that Paramedics and EMT's do not encounter on a daily basis. With its compact size or the new, separately sold downloadable PDA content, this resource makes an ideal companion and quick-reference tool for EMT's in the field. The Streetmedic's Handbook also lends itself well to the classroom setting for students who are studying emergency medicine. From the classroom to the field, those who use this book will appreciate the standardized, problem-oriented format that sets it apart from other quick-reference manuals.

this is a very basic book, not sure what its purpose is, just get an informed guide
Great Read..........2007-05-13
Extremely informative and to the point.Covers the basics+++...A MUST READ for every Medic...imho
Excellant Book.......2005-05-05
This is an Excellant Must Have Book. It presents the most common types of emergencies that medics get called to in a easy to understand way.
Must have book for new medics.......2003-12-31
New medics in particular should grab up this book. I eagerly await a second edition but I have found no other book that cuts to the chase and explains differential diagnosis of about 40 common EMS conditions as well. I strongly encourage new EMS folks to buy this book as the wealth of information that is in here is amazing. While some of the information is old -- I don't think it has been updated since the ACLS changes of 2000, it still has a great deal of good information throughout and should be added to required text lists of NREMT-P and NREMT-I programs.
Streetmedic's Handbook........2001-10-16
Well, I have to say...I'm duly impressed. It's not often that I find a medical reference book that is as clear, concise, and step-by-step as this one. Even though it's geared towards the EMT-P, it could be a very helpful guide to anyone in health-related fields...from trauma nurse to home health aide to first responder. Although the book does assume you have the basic knowledge of the advance EMT, it can contain valuable insight for all. It's also well organized; it's easy to look something up and find your information in a short time.

Helpful Review.......2003-08-23
I believe this e-book is a very helpful review. Not only does it give questions and answers, but it also gives rationale with references. I give it 4 stars. The only downfalls are that you cannot print the chapters/pages, and that the answers do not include the question...so if you don't remember the question, then you have to go back to look it up. Overall, it is a very good study guide and I would recommend it!
TOO BASIC.......2001-12-14
This book was much too basic for my review purposes. Also, the questions in this book do not resemble the questions on the NREMT-P test.
good job.......2000-10-09
mr. westfal did and excellent job with this book. i did kind of poorly in my medic class and when it came time for the final i got this review guide and passed with flying colors. especially the cardio section (which i struggled with in class) i had a much better understanding of what i was supposed to know about cardio drugs and reading dysrhythmias on an ecg and interpreting them into which algorythm i am supposed to use. and also there are not as many pasg pants ?'s which is good because in at least michigan they are elimanting the use of the mast pants and the pants are no longer on the ambulance. thank you again for your help mr. westfal, it was much appreciated.

Many of us as children learned to recall important information, through various forms of recall. Mind joggers, memory shakers or whatever you may call them, there are a number of ways that we train our memory to sort through and quickly and accurately recall information. This ability to recall information is often critical to EMS providers, and Mnemonics is often the key to successfully remembering information stored in our memory. This book is the result of years of work in collecting and compiling many of the Mnemonics that will, and probably already do, make you more productive in your activities as or with health care providers. When used by instructors to assist newbie's...this information often makes the lifelong learning process in the medical field easier.

This is the greatest book for a student.......2006-10-16
I' m not sure a single week has gone by either in school or at work where I haven't used this book to help me organize complex information in my head. This book is great help and should be a must have for any Paramedic student and for that matter any in the health care profession.
Extremely Appreciative EMT Graduate !!!!!!.......2006-10-04
I used this book extensively in my EMT Schooling. The information contained in it was invaluable as a guide and learning tool. It is a must have for anyone getting into the medical field. It definately has given me the edge in my EMT and other medical classes that I have attended. I have recommended it to numerous friends in the medical field and they have all expressed to me their gratitude and extreme satisfaction with the book as well. A real bargain at twice the price. Thanks Janet for helping me jump start my medical career with such tremendous success.
EMS 4 EMS.......2006-01-27
This book will help other medical careers. I found the mnemonics helpful while studying for NCLEX-RN licensing. Thanks Jan!!!
From AVPU to zygomatic bone... .......2005-12-28
... we need to sort through and recall information in order to provide care for our patients, or to discuss and communicate information. Many of us can quickly recall techniques and treatment steps in sequence by using memory joggers.

Great Review Book.......2007-08-30
I purchased this review book the Saturday morning before I had to take the written exam on Monday at 5:00. I hadn't reviewed anything from class in almost 4 months and while I graduated with a 95 average, I almost failed the first exam I took from this book. I spent the rest of Saturday and most of the day Sunday doing every one of the questions in this entire book. I reviewed a bit on Monday and I ended up getting a 96 on the Florida written exam the first time I took it. There were so many questions from this book that were actually on the test it was shocking. I chose to rate this with 4 stars instead of 5 simply because the new ACLS protocols and CPR ratios are out of date, which is purely because of when the book was published. I highly recommend this to the person who put off studying for the exam and has a minimal amount of time to review. Good luck and happy studying!
I passed.......2007-03-18
I purchased a total of 3 books to assist me in preparing for the Illinois Paramedic Exam. The other two books were only ok. This book was the one I used extensively. The wording of the questions in the practice exams were "thought Provoking". It helped direct me to the areas where I needed to review and/or increase my knowledge. The only problem I saw with the book was that several questions were out of date. For example the CPR questions were based on old AHA guidelines. And a few questions referenced drugs that are no longer utilized in EMS for my area. Overall it was a great study guide and I would recommend it to future Paramedic Students.
how to prepare for the EMT paramedic exam.......2007-01-13
the questions in this book are extremely helpful in studing. They are very close to the actual exam
Save your money!.......2007-01-09
You may be tempted to buy this one because it is a little cheaper than the others. RESIST! I bought three books to prep for National Registry and this one was far and away the worst. There are multiple wrong answers with incorrect explanations. The protocols are all outdated and the new ones aren't included (mainly because this is an older book). Also the paper it is printed on is porous (highlighters will bleed), dark, cheap paper. Toss in a couple more dollars and get the Learning Express or EMT-P Self-Assessment books. You'll be glad you did.
Not bad at all.......2006-07-07
Just took the writtem test. Some of the questions were right on. Alot of questions based off of a "paragragh" which is unlike the National Test. Over all good help in forcing you to think like a Basic and use your ABC's first. Not up to current AHA standards as most other guides aren't either so some answers no longer correct. This book ranks up there with the blue "Learning Express" guide.

Not what you think!.......2007-04-10
