concise review book. good for brushing up on topics. great way to start off your study for USMLE step 1. also includes some study tips.
simply a list for USMLE.......2007-08-22
I must have unrealistic expectation for this book, because everyone has gushed about how great first aid is for step1. Well, I got the book and studied, I took my exam, and in retrospect, I can say that while the book gets good marks for putting together the minimum you have to know, it's simply not a definitive source. For one, usmle seems to move increasingly toward testing fundamental concepts in unusual ways, and this book is simply not good for concept. It's basically a list of things you have to memorize for the straight up memory questions. And even for the latter, so many of the mnemonics are so random that chances are you'll remember the mnemonic but not what they stand for.
Anyways, I'll still say take this book, make sure you cover everything the book listed, use this simply as a checklist. It's not the bible for usmle or anything like that - just that I dont know anywhere else that condense the facts into so few pages.
And make sure to get the list of mistakes - there are always new ones in every edition for some reason.

good for step 1 prep.......2007-02-12
This is not bad as another book to have for Step1 Prep. Don't overwhelm yourself with too many books because there are ALOT of books out there. Just pick a handful becuase otherwise you will have conflicting information.
Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good.......2007-01-15
Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good!!! It helps you think about every aspect of a concept. Example, path & Physio of what's going on with the patient. It brings important concepts in medicine in extremely valid cases which are written "like" the NBME questions. I would rec this book 100% worth every penny!!!
great book.......2006-10-29
cases are informational and board style. follows the step 1 book. the step one book, cuts out the [...] and tells you what's needed for the boards. great outline. some of the topics are a little thin. has color histo atlas and websites for more general info. I think the book would be better if it had more cases but overall, the combo is a good buy!
First Aud Cases for the USMLE Step 1.......2006-09-02

The best!.......2007-05-06
One of the most important books to prepare USMLE step 1, to start a month before the examination.
wise resource.......2007-04-12
this book is such a good resource for quick review . it deliberately gathers all the you-need-to-know questions in one place despite a few questions in each chapter .if you want a good ,brief and hit-to-the-point compilation of questions ,do not hesitate to choose this one
USMLE Step 1 Qbook (Kaplan USMLE Qbook).......2007-01-19
Excellent choice if you want to get in shape for USMLE Step 1.It was very useful for me to review Kaplan lecture notes and answer questions from the book at the same time.Qbook helps to put the knowledge from lecture notes into proper places. Also it is not enough to be ready for the exam, but it is good starting point anyway.
good book, good deal.......2007-01-09
much more affordable than q-bank questions online ... very worthwhile book for a good price
Save some money, buy previous editions!.......2006-12-29
I compared page for page 2006 and 2004 editions of Kaplan Medical USMLE Step 1 Qbook and was really surprised: Kaplan didn't change a single word in QBook over past 4 years. Well, I have to be completely honest: they changed 2004 for 2006 in most instances. I owned both and regret I bought latest edition myself. There were only few minute changes since 2002 and none of them affected answers (few question stems were re-written in 2004). So, if you're really want to waste your money, buy latest edition of Kaplan books.

Book Description
Now in its Third Edition, Step-Up is the most comprehensive systems-based review for the USMLE Step 1. The book has been widely acclaimed for its systems-based organization, which parallels the USMLE Step 1 content outline and helps students synthesize the information from their basic science courses. The popular, user-friendly format features numerous charts and diagrams and Quick Hits notes in the margins that help students integrate concepts across systems. For this edition, the author has added numerous clinical vignettes and new mnemonics to each chapter. Pharmacology has been further integrated into the systems-based format with new illustrations, tables, and references.
Customer Reviews:
Great with First Aid.......2007-03-26
This is a great supplement to FA. The Neuro section is particularly useful as it goes through concepts more in depth than does FA.
Step Up.......2007-02-08
This book is a perfect brief systems review for the visual learner. It hits the high points and has more tables that make comparing disorders easier than in the First Aid. It has great diagrams as well and isn't as all over the place as First Aid. But, it does lack some of the information in the First Aid, but you can add that stuff in anyway or get it fom Goljan...
A little bland.......2007-01-09
This is an adequate review book for students already familiar with basic concepts. However, I found that it lacked the high-yield hits or points of emphasis that would help one remember the most important aspects of a given subject. I suggest reading this book after First Aid.
comparable to first-aid.......2006-03-22
I haven't taken Step I yet, but so far I have been using it along with my classes on system. It is very helpful. I love the charts!
Lots of High yield info.......2005-08-27
This book has a lot of useful info, probably more than 1st Aid, and the outline format organization is great to follow. So I think its best to either go with this book or 1st Aid. I recommend 1st Aid. It worked for me.

Customer Reviews:
One of the best of the series.......2001-03-29
I found this book very helpful in forming a clinical picture in my mind for all those confusing biochemical diseases. I felt this was one of the best books of this series. It is good to use after reviewing the subject. This book is not sufficient on its own and should be used as an adjunct to a standard review book.
Better if used near to the test date.......2000-05-10
When I first read this book It was not very useful `cause everything was new for me, but when I re read it after I finish to read my biochemistry review, It was amazing, It helped me to order all the knowledgment that I had in a better form, in a perfect style to be prepared for the ECFMG questions. I recommend it to everybody who is preparing for the USMLE or ECFMG. And also highly recommended with the Lippincott Biochemistry review.

Great Review.......2005-05-04
The book contains a lot of questions and thorough explanations for each question - this makes it a really good review book. Explanations are high yield and allow you to review quite a bit of info. Get it if you don't want to pay $200 or whatever for Qbank.
Book Description
Now in its completely updated Seventh Edition, this comprehensive review has long been rated as a top study tool. This edition includes fully updated USMLE question formats, using clinical vignette questions. 850 USMLE-style questions are organized into 17 tests of 50 questions each for effective study and practice. Each test includes full explanations of each answer choice. This revised edition also includes more clinically oriented illustrations, and color plates in multiple signatures as seen on the exam. All questions are also available on a free CD-ROM included with the book that provides sorting and scoring features.
Customer Reviews:
I loved this book.......2007-09-25
These questions along with UW questions is all you need to feel really prepared for step1. Of course you have to read FA and the other books, but regarding to questions practice: This is the book!
Good Questions but not sorted.......2005-03-12
Sure this book has tons of great USMLE type questions, and doing questions will help cement the key facts that you learn while studying for boards. However, this book is just a series of 17 entire practice exams. The questions are NOT organized into topics which I found to be key to studying (this is why so many students spend $$$ for the Kaplan QBank because you can choose questions that you just studied that day). Its hard, frustrating, and low yield to do questions if you have not studied the topic yet. I only recommend using this book when you have completely mastered all the subject topics of the USMLE.
To much repetitive but still good..........2004-09-04
Well, I did like this book. However, it has a very inconvenient particularity: questions are so repetitive. I mean, for a patient description, two many questions were asked, of course, for different aspects of that particular patient. But it, then, moves away from the original purpose, which is to simulate, as much close as possible, the "real-life" aspects of USMLE test. Still, the CD-ROM that accompanies the book is not well formulated. It has the advantage of allowing to choose topics to study but it gets so boring when you try to simulate the 50-questions set of USMLE and it starts repeating questions all over again. So, please, take care when you buy this book: if you want to review by topics, good; if the purpose is to simulate USMLE, forget this book...
good questions for usmle step 1.......2002-07-28
thought this book was very helpful for the step 1. very similar questions to the real thing
Book Description
This quick, easy-to-use review helps students get prepared for Step One of the USMLE. The question-and-answer RECALL employs helps students memorize the facts that are most often tested on the USMLE. The Second Edition organizes facts according to their specific basic science disciplines and provides accurate, up-to-date information at just the right level of depth for study and review.
Many students regard "Buzzwords" as the strongest USMLE Step 1 tool on the market. An especially popular Power Review section helps students brush up on the details and test how well they've retained knowledge over the study period.
Customer Reviews:
Needs work.......2006-02-09
Has the potential for being a very helpful book, but I found it to be filled with repeated questions and incorrect information - suprising for a 2nd edition. Wouldn't recommend this book until someone does a much better job editing it.
Not as bad as some of the other reviewers say.......2005-03-04
This book isn't so bad. It is true that the NBME is moving away from using buzzwords in their questions, but many of the questions in this book are useful to remind you of important facts. For example, the first question in the biochemistry section is "What is the rate limiting step in glycolysis?" Answer "PFK-1". If you're the type of person who likes to study by answering questions (which I do) this book will save you time. I normally make up my own questions as I go along but this book does it for me. And not all keywords are bad -- it's difficult to describe verbally what Howell-Jolly bodies in a manner that specifically hints at asplenia -- it's just plain easier to use the eponym. With those considerations in mind, I would recommend this book, not as a primary source for study, but a good way to form associations with material you've just studied and to remember important, frequently tested facts.
helpful memory tool for med school.......2004-07-20
Do NOT rely on this book for board study, because the medical licensing exams are moving away from buzzwords. I had very few if any buzzwords on my USMLE. However, many medical schools still use buzzwords on their exams, and it is an easy book to skim through before tests if you have extra time.
Useless!!!!.......2004-06-03
This book is completely useless. It only gives you key words to identify syndromes, pathologies, treatments, etc... but in the real test you don't get those key words that lead you to a quick answer, like in this book. One of the worst books and worst review books out there. DON'T BUY. Don't even bother to read into it, USELESS, USELESS, USELESS!!!
This is a great book for USLME step 1.......2003-03-27
This definitely helped me remember more facts quite faster in preparation for the USMLE Step 1. The book focuses on key facts and topics that are so important to know in order to pass the test. I also used the following books that are also available on amazon.com:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
(ISBN: 0971999635)
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
(ISBN: 0971999600)
The last two study guides helped me know the type of questions that were asked on the USMLE Step 1. I used these three books and passed the USMLE Step 1 the first time. I had a few friends who recommened the microbiology study guide. I'm glad I took their advice.

Customer Reviews:
Not bad for a quick review.......2007-05-15
This book is not all encompassing however it does bring back into mind high yield facts that you should know. I would recommend using this book in conjuction with the First Aid
Few typos but otherwise great.......2006-02-14
Just be careful when you go through this book, because there are quite a few typos. Usually it's nothing important, but once in a while it may confuse phase I and phase II, for example :). But again, it is not intended to be an ultimate resourse, so just be attentive not to confuse yourself.
Otherwise, this is a truly terrific book, and I still give it 5 stars because I certainly prefer to have it now, with the typos, rather then wait till all the little things are cleared. It helps me to structurize my studies so much, that I really cannot imagine what I'd be doing without it.
2Authors: Great job! Thank you very much!
Buy Early in Med School.......2006-02-11
Book is very helpful and should be bought early during med school. It will make sure that you know frequently tested topics. Also great along w/ first aid for board prep. There are a few mistakes as this is a 1st edition book, but the book is well worth $20.
Buy This Book!!!.......2005-11-21
Deja Review is an innovative approach for Step 1 recall. I used this book as my primary resource and did outstanding on boards. Buy this book...you won't regret it!
awesome resource.......2005-11-21
I used this book as a quick review in the final days before my step I exam and scored much higher than I expected. I found it to be a great resource.

Download Description
These "500 questions, answers, and explanation" books are designed to simulate the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1. Each is authored by an expert in the field and has been reviewed by students who have recently passed the exam. As Step 1 is becoming increasingly more clinical in nature, when applicable, clinical vignette-style questions requiring a two-step reasoning process are also included. All of the Pretest titles include a "high-yield" fact section to reinforce key concepts.

Close to the real thing.......2002-10-31
As indicated on the blurb, this is probably the among closest you can get to the real questions. The format makes the book easy to carry along. Work through these questions and try to think one step beyond what they're asking for!
A very good book........2002-04-12
Many questions are good and useful for preparing the USMLE, not only for step 1 but also for step 2.
