Book Description
A proven and unique combination of learning principles and exercises, this widely respected book continues to get better! Medical Terminology for Health Professions, Fifth Edition, simplifies the process of learning hundreds of difficult, complex medical terms. The see and say pronunciation system makes pronouncing unfamiliar terms easy. Because word parts are such an important aspect of learning medical terminology, mastery of these building blocks is emphasized throughout the book. Organized by body system, chapters begin with an overview of the structures and functions of that system so you can relate these to specialty, pathology, diagnostic, and treatment procedures that follow.

Great Price; Fast delivery.......2007-09-17
The book arrived in the condition expected and also earlier than the website estimate. Amazon is one of the best places to shop.
Great intro to medical terms .......2007-09-08
I am working toward a Medical Coding certificate/degree, and this is the book we use in my Medical Terminology class. This book is well laid out, there are plenty of illustrations, it even comes with flash cards and an interactive computer cd to help you study. It makes it easy for a beginner to grasp the basic concepts of anatomy, diseases, procedures, and their commonly used abbreviations.
And this book is a bargain from Amazon. My school sells it for over $100.
Excellent.......2006-11-23
I am just about finished with my first semester studying medical transcription at a Technical college. This book was required for one of my classes. I love this book. I love the way it is laid out and I especially like the quizzes at the end of each chapter. I found this book to be extremely easy to use and it is written in a way that is clear and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book.

Mosby's Dictionary.......2007-10-01
This was a great purchase. Quick and easy and the product was in excellent shape. I'm in nursing school so this thing is an essential. We were told it was optional...but I've found I'm using it constantly. It is definitely a MUST HAVE for all nursing students. It's a great resource, very helpful.
Awesome.......2007-09-23
This is an incredible resouce to have. If you are seeking a career in the nursing, it is imperative that you own this dictionary. It is easy to use, lots of picture, just a great resouce over all.
Mosby's.......2007-09-04
Excellent condition! By far the best medical dictionary I've ever used. Shipped quickly.
An indispensable book for students, professionals and laymen alike.......2007-07-31
This book has everything a person could want and then some. It has conditions, diseases, injuries, tests, health, anatomy, ect. Everything listed in here is described in the simplest detail that any adult can understand.
There are an ample amount of color photographs and drawings throughout. WARNING - A few photographs may be a bit much for some people to handle. Some diseases and conditions can look downright disgusting to more sensitive readers.
It is thumb tabbed for easy navigation throughout the alphabet. That makes for a great time saver and ease of use as well.
This book is a tremendous resource for nursing school. Even if it is not required, I fully recommend it's purchase.
My Favorite Medical Dictonary.......2007-03-21
I love dictionaries and have several. I preferred Mosby's over Lippincott's for the same reason I like most Mosby books, the layout and text is so much easier to read. There are lots of pictures in color and the index tabs are useful in finding your subject quickly. The CD in the back of book has a useful spell checker. I sold my red version of this dictionary so I could have this blue version. When a clinical instructor say's the clasical line "go look it up" I'll find it faster in a clinical setting and when I'm working on a careplan my spell check will speed up the process.

Book Description
Teaching users how to transcribe actual medical dictation so that they can develop the selective hearing skills and experience necessary to gain competency as a medical transcriptionist, this guide offers a unique combination of authentic physician dictation by body systems, coordinated readings and exercises by medical specialty, and supplementary information vital to every medical transcriptionist.
Supports text with six hours of authentic physical dictation–not synthetic studio recording; all dictations are carefully selected for subject matter, professionally edited to delete confidential identifying information, and then sequenced in a way to promote comprehension and encourage learning. Groups tapes by medical specialty (i.e., dermatology, urology, gastroenterology, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, and radiology), with each dictation report offering the best example of its type for vocabulary density, technical content, and other instructional criteria; each report includes chart notes, letters, initial office valuations, consultations, history and physical examinations, discharge summaries, operative reports, emergency department reports, procedure notes, and diagnostic studies from each medical specialty.
For anyone in the medical profession who wants to learn basic medical transcription, including medical assistants and legal transcription/court reporters.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book and it includes the CD ROM!.......2007-08-29
The previous review refers to the 2nd edition. I ordered and received the 3rd edition which DOES INCLUDE the CD ROM.
Excellent book! Excellent software!
Great book but missing one very important thing?!?!?!?.......2003-01-28
This is a great learning tool for the beginning transcriptionist. It is easy to read and flows well. I am very excited about the learning opportunity it provides. There is only one very large problem. You need the CD-ROM that should come with the book. This version does not include the CR-ROM. The ISBN # for the same book with the CD included is 0 13 018735 6 and you will have to special order it from Amazon. If you don't you will have to order the CD seperately. That is if you can find it (I tried with no luck) and it is not cheap. The book with the CD included is much more cost effective. I hope this information helps.

HIGHLY RECOMMED.......2000-11-13
I AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING THIS BOOK. I AM STUDYING AT HOME TO BE A MEDICAL TRANSCRIBER. THE OWNER OF THE SCHOOL RECOMMENDS THIS BOOK TO ALL HER STUDENTS. SHE STARTED THIS BUSINESS ON HER OWN AND HER REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.

Customer Reviews:
Essential and Useful Reference.......2006-05-31
I have had this book for the past few years. This is an essential and highly convenient medical dictionary. As a compact reference, I have been able to find the definitions to at least 90% of the words I have been looking for. The accompanying dictionary is an amazing and useful program to have installed on the computer.
The pictures/images in the printed dictionary are great to help illustrate various definitions. There are even several pages of photo-quality images in the middle of the book. The CD-ROM includes all of the information in the book in a very easy-to-use format. There are images, diagrams, and 3-D illustrations.
Recommendation: You won't go wrong with this dictionary.
Superb work of reference.......2001-08-22
This concise medical dictionary is not concise at all: it gives all the information one needs, accompanied by very clear and informative drawings and pictures and it even gives the reader the correct pronunciation of the word. The alphabet tags on the side of the book (they give the first two letters of the words on that page rather than only the first letter) are a major help for a quick reference.
I am "only" a biomedical scientist and not an M.D., but this book is very important in my daily work to understand all those sometimes hopelessly complicated medical terms that I encounter in articles and correspondence. I can imagine that this book can also be very useful for M.D.s en medical students to look up the terms they do not encounter every day.
Great book........2000-10-27
It's all you'll every need. Trust me.

Love It.......2007-09-07
As a studying MT student, I find this dictionary to be extremely useful and am very glad I purchased it. It covers just about everything that the text books do not explain because they assume you already know what it means. Great tool for anyone with a limited background in medical vocabulary.

Well laid out text.......2005-12-16
I needed this text for a medical terminology course that i thought would be a cakewalk. As it turns out the course was much harder than i thought. But the book and the enclosed cd and teh flashcards were a life saver. The chapters are well thought out and spaced great. Each new building block helps you master the next. The cd has remarkable learning tools. There are tests, learning games that are actually a little fun to play. The flashcards were never far from my side. I would say that even if you did not take the course but just studied this book, you would have a high command of medical terminology.
