Book Description
A proven and unique combination of learning principles and exercises, this widely respected book continues to get better! Medical Terminology for Health Professions, Fifth Edition, simplifies the process of learning hundreds of difficult, complex medical terms. The see and say pronunciation system makes pronouncing unfamiliar terms easy. Because word parts are such an important aspect of learning medical terminology, mastery of these building blocks is emphasized throughout the book. Organized by body system, chapters begin with an overview of the structures and functions of that system so you can relate these to specialty, pathology, diagnostic, and treatment procedures that follow.

Great Price; Fast delivery.......2007-09-17
The book arrived in the condition expected and also earlier than the website estimate. Amazon is one of the best places to shop.
Great intro to medical terms .......2007-09-08
I am working toward a Medical Coding certificate/degree, and this is the book we use in my Medical Terminology class. This book is well laid out, there are plenty of illustrations, it even comes with flash cards and an interactive computer cd to help you study. It makes it easy for a beginner to grasp the basic concepts of anatomy, diseases, procedures, and their commonly used abbreviations.
And this book is a bargain from Amazon. My school sells it for over $100.
Excellent.......2006-11-23
I am just about finished with my first semester studying medical transcription at a Technical college. This book was required for one of my classes. I love this book. I love the way it is laid out and I especially like the quizzes at the end of each chapter. I found this book to be extremely easy to use and it is written in a way that is clear and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book.

CLS 295.......2007-10-08
This is a good book. I love that there are activities at the end of each chapter to help you learn the material. The discs also come in handy for pronounciation. I bought this book for a medical terminology class. It was less expensive than buying it at the university's bookstore.
Great Book!.......2006-06-30
The book is great! Comes with review CD'S that you can use to improve your test scores. Very nice.
Medical Terminology.......2005-09-12
The book is in okay condition, however the cover was a little torn. It included both CD's which I use to suppliment the course.
There are better books out there............2004-03-15
This book is a good introduction to medical terminology. It is not as comprehensive as some that are on the market, though. My edition did not come with a CD, but shows it as an optional tool. This book lacks a glossary and pronunciation of the medical terms. It does explain body processes in a way that makes it easy for the novice to understand, and that makes the book worth owning.
Medical Terminology A Systems Review.......2000-02-11
I received the book with CD as a gift because I will be entering the field of medicine. The book and CD are easy to follow and I have learned more than I ever expected in medical terminology.
The book is easy to follow and prepares you to read medical reports and to learn thousands of medical terms, including diagnostic, symptomatic, and surgical terms. The pronunciations help me pronounce words correctly when I talk to the medical staff at the hospital.
I recommend this book highly.

Exactly what I wanted.......2007-09-26
The book came right on time and I saved $10 compared to the school bookstore price.
Pages Missing.......2007-09-25
The description for this book said that it was in good condition, however, when I went to the appendix to study word roots, probably the most important section of the whole book, I found all of the pages I needed had been torn out! Essentially, this made the book worthless and I ended up having to borrow one from a friend.
Medical Terminology Simplified: A Programmed Learning Approach By Body Symstems.......2007-01-21
This was very helpful in learning the correct spelling and pronunciation of medical terminology.
Great system for learning terminology quickly.......2006-06-16
I am a midwifery student and I needed to learn medical terminology. This book is set up like a workbook. You can fill it in as you go. By filling in the blanks, making up flash cards, and taking the quizzes, I was able to learn a lot of medical terminology in a short amount of time. Much of the terminology in medicine is very logical, using root words, suffixes and prefixes. If you learn these, you can figure out the meaning of a lot of medical terms. Filling in blanks (especially when a lot of the answers are obvious) may seem redundant and like busy work, but by using more modalities for your learning process (auditory as you listen to the cd's, visual as you read, tactile as you write), you learn it so much more quickly and easily. There were some typos in the book and a few frames that were written incorrectly or in a confusing manner but not many. If you pay attention, you will catch them. I would advise the editors to do a better proofreading job in the next edition. This book is totally worth it if you are just starting out in the medical field. It is basic terminology but it will give you a great start. The book also covers some pathological, diagnostic, and therapeutic terms, as well as a section where you can practice reading sample medical records. Make sure you buy a book that is not filled in so you can fill it in yourself and get the most out of it.
Excellent service!!!.......2006-05-16
I bought this book from John Kitts, and the service/communication with him was really pleasant. The quality of the book was excellent. It was really like new, at a good price and it included brand new audio CD?s with it as the add said.
Thanks a lot John!!!

Thanks.......2007-10-07
This is my first Amazon experience and it was a good one. I am soo pleased with the book, I recieved it just in time. Thanks
Very helpful book.......2007-04-01
I purchased this book to help me learn medical terminology at my own pace. I expected less than what I received. There are diagrams, charts, and lots of examples. There is a good amount of repetition so after the chapter is finished the terminology is retained.
Great Investment.......2007-03-31
I highly recommend this book and CD-Rom for anyone who wants to make a serious effort to learn medical terminology. This textbook is incredibly well-written and thorough. I feel lucky to have been able to purchase it at such a great price.
not Mac friendly.......2007-02-05
The book is good and can be used to self-teach, but the CD-ROM does not work on a Mac OS-X; apparently it is a Windows-only application.
This is a pet peeve of mine and accounts for my low-rating. There was no indication before I bought it that the accompanying software would not work on my Mac
not bad, easy system.......2007-01-09
This book starts out simple and builds on itself as you progress. It covers a broad range of med terms, with about 30 pages in each chapter and a good end of chapter review with different types of quizzes. The CD is also by chapter and has games to test you and also an area you can listen to the vocab words for pronunciation. My "plastic comb" version (not the spiral bound for more $) is falling apart after 2 semseters of use though.
