Book Description
FOR THOSE WHO SEARCH The program outlined in The Low Blood Sugar Handbook is for you. It is an optimum lifestyle not only for functional hypoglycemics (low blood sugar sufferers), but also for those suffering from premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and everyone else who desires a healthy and productive life.
Women who suffer from PMS often have low blood sugar. Once the blood sugar is stabilized, the PMS can be dealt with more effectively.
This book is written by low blood sugar sufferers rather than by a medical person since only sufferers have the insight into dealing with the everyday situations of low blood sugar. After working with hundreds of hypoglycemics, Edward and Patricia Krimmel have articulated the things that only sufferers can know. They give the clear, practical and complete advice you need for understanding and dealing with the everyday nitty- gritty of low blood sugar.
The chapters of the book deal with such practical matters as being able to identify if you have low blood sugar, what it is, how serious it is and what to do if you have the condition. The four dimensions of the KRIMMEL PROGRAM are: 1. Food ethic 2. Exercise 3. Fun & laughter 4. Sleep, rest & relaxation
A fifth dimension is found in chapters 5, 6, 8, and 9. The information is unique to this handbook. Only through the application of the fifth dimension, can the low blood sugar sufferer get total value from the other 4 dimensions.
Low blood sugar is a personal affair. Only through personal initiative can it be controlled. There is no medication or "cure all" for it. Only through the proper program and understanding your body chemistry can this condition be controlled.
If you're willing to spend enough time And put out enough effort You can solve every problem
Customer Reviews:
out of date.......2006-09-04
This book was probably very important when it was published in 1992. But more than 10 years have passed, and the book is out of date. First, I find it suspicious that the authors blame hypoglycemia for 60 different symptoms. They take a "victim" attitude that everything unlikable in one's personality and habits can be blamed on one's hypoglycemia. I hardly find that to be the case in my own life. My bad temper is mine to conquer and not the "fault" of my hypoglycemia.
Second, the authors wrote this book before stevia was widely available as a hypoglycemia-safe, all-natural sugar substitute. I would love to find more information about stevia and recipes that include stevia.
Finally, this book was written before the glycemic index was widely understood. The New Glucose Revolution by Brand-Miller et al. will help one to learn the difference between low-glycemic index (gi) foods that will help to keep one's blood sugar stable and high-gi foods that will lead to the ups and downs of hypoglycemia.
The best treatment for Hypoglycemia.......2006-05-19
What an excellent book. Shame on me for not writing this review until now. I have been following the book since 2003 and it has changed my life dramatically. I can think and act very clearly and all my symptoms disappeared. Watch out, if you deviate from the program after starting it, symptoms will worsen. A must read for people with low blood sugar problems.
The best guide I've found yet!.......2006-04-23
I found I suffered from 49 of the 60 symptoms of LBS just in the last week. I've had this book since I was 6 months pregnant in 1996 and found out I had LBS, but never took the time to read it; until this last week while I was too sick to get out of bed.
One of the biggest things I suffer from is insomnia, no energy, headaches, irritability, mood swings, PAIN always, Super PMS, just to name a few. I read this book, followed the basic instructions, and found myself sleeping thru the night for the first time in years. This without taking a myraid of, natural mind you, medicines to help me get to sleep...I never stayed there! I always woke several times a night, couldn't get to sleep to begin with, one time I was awake for 7 days straight before crashing (usually it's 5 days)...that was harsh!
First day...just by dropping the bad things, eating every two hours, and directly before I go to bed; I had energy to get thru the day with spare (even my daughter mentioned it's nice to see you have energy to move for once...encouragement enough for me to keep at it). And then to be able to sleep mostly thru night...a huge start!
Where I went wrong...I never believed in eating past 6pm, I switched to water only, never ate snacks, and ate 2-3 meals a day; thinking this was the typical "healthy diet"...no wonder I felt horrilbe all the time. I avoided sugar like the plague knowing how I react to it along with most juices...I usually emmediately feel the impact after eating or drinking sucrose or fructose anything!
I've been searching for 3years, several Dr's later...and yes the typical prescriptions for depression, anxiety, etc...No they did not help...in the very least! What really gets me is, I've had the answers since 1996, and never took the time to read this book. I would never have been as bad as I managed to get if I read it when I bought it :( Recommendation: don't buy a book meant to help you and not read it emmediately ;)
I would highly recommend reading this book, if you have low blood sugar or someone you know and love does. It gives great insight to a little known, but highly dibilitating, condition...which wreaks havoc on the person who suffers, this is something that will never go away...once you get a grip on it, you can feel normal once again. It's a learning process that keeps going as well...I keep the book with me always.
As it turns out my Husband, two children, and I all have LBS...so
I will be doing a lot more learning, research, etc...to make all of our lives normal. A little hint, no two people are the same body chemistry, we all have our own reactions to different foods; so what works to raise your sugar to normal, may not work for the other family members as I've found out...it's a long journey to undertake, but they're well worth it!
I truely do hope this helps...it did me. I'm ordering extra copies now, as we speak, for my sister, my brother, and one for my Hubby to keep with him as a reference! Good luck!!!!
previous reviewer didn't get it, cause he doesn't have it!.......2006-01-28
The preceding reviewer obviously doesn't have LBS. Lucky for him. I love chocolate cake more than words can say, but I will fosake my love of sweets (or maybe it was addiction) to have a normal life.
God bless the Krimmel's for explaining what doctors don't get. The difference in how my son and I feel is infinitely worth the funny looking meals and constant monitoring!
I wasn't nuts, I have hypoglycemia, I'm better now.
My son wasn't a bad kid, he has hypoglycemia, he's better now.
This book could change your life. No joke.
Not as good as I thought it would be based on the reviews.......2005-12-02
This book was long winded and unreasonable with it's diet recommendations. For someone on a tight budget and who loves the tastes of food, you would not like this book. All the allowed foods are blan, plane and not something most people I know would stick with. The author tells you his life story which takes a lot of time to get through it to read the important points. I am going to try a modified Atkins approach instead. The reviews are what I based my buying decision on for this book and I am thankful I didn't spend more then 5.00 for it. It wasn't worth my money.

Customer Reviews:
A must for dermatology residents.......2002-03-25
I received this book compliments of Ortho Dermatological as a first-year derm resident. I read it before mock boards in the spring and I was amazed at how many questions I got just because of this book. I would not have mastered the presented syndromes by reading about them out of standard derm texts.
The key features of findings listed by system and the excellent illustrations are very conducive to learning the material. There could be more syndromes included (Watson's, Dysplastic nevus sydrome, etc.). Also, it definitely needs updating. The quick pace of new knowlege (especially in the area of identified gene defects) kept me busily making notes in the margins before the next mock boards.
Pediatric dermatologists are going to need a more comprehensive text but for residents, this is an essential tool for mastering these disorders and passing the boards.
An invaluable, practical guide.......2001-04-06
Dr. Spitz's Genodermatoses is an invaluable part of a dermatologist's armamentarium. Its thoughtful juxtaposition of textual disease highlights with unforgettable illustrations makes learning (and remembering) this somewhat esoteric topic much more painless and, arguably, fun. This Guide serves not only as a quick reference, but also as an irreplaceable practical study tool for such resident hurdles as the dermatology mock and real boards. However, in view of the increasing scientific precision in the understanding of genetic disease, some of the contents need updating. Looking forward to the next edition with eager anticipation.
A Must For Derm Residents.......2001-01-17
OK. If you are a dermatology resident - you should get this book. It has most of the major genodermatoses that you wil be asked about. It needs updating, as do all textbooks, but only in that the causes of many of the diseases have been found ! (well done science!). Most dermatologists have a good visual memory - each disease has one page of summarised information about the condition e.g. inheritance, etiology, review of affected systems, differential diagnoses, managment etc On the other side of the page there is an illustration of the typical patient with the disease, with labeling of all the parts that have 'gone wrong'. In addition there are photographs of actual patients the disease. Some of these photos have reached cult status among residents - everyone loves the kid with the afro! This book summarises some of the highest yield mock board material around. You can be garaunteed at least 10-15% of the board questions can be answered from this book. It your program is not doing Spitz review - then good luck, you will need it.
Just a so-so text.......1998-10-16
This book was given to me; it is a decent reference text/atlas with some good color illustrations; however, I believe that another text -- Recognizable patterns of human malformation: genetic, embryologic, and clinical aspects by David W. Smith -- is far superior. I very much recommend the Smith text over the Spitz text. Although Recognizable patterns of human malformation does not have color illustrations, it is much more comprehensive, easier to read (in my opinion), and cheaper ($65).

Lippincott Medical Terms and Abbreviations.......2003-08-30
I bought this book because I have no medical training or background and am currently taking an on-line medical transcription program that I have many more questions that the programs offers materials on. I was looking basically for a medical terms "for dummies" and a book that with a lot of medical abbreviations. The course tells me to make my own list and as I don't have a lot of time, I figured I would be better off buying a book. If this is what you are looking for, this book is not for you! It offers some basic terminology and I found nine out of ten times, I couldn't find what I was looking for and resorted back to Dorland's Medical Dictionary.
The one thing and only reason I would recommend this book, is at the back of the book are Roots, prefixes, and suffixes and their meaning in an alpha sort. It would be nice if they would have told the reader which category the word falls under, but I have that down pretty good now.
Really helpful clinical guide.......2003-06-24
The pocket size and light weight make this a great addition for reference while at your nursing clinicals. Contains synopses of disease process, typical tests for diagnosis, and basic nursing assessments and interventions. I am doing a clinical nursing internship this summer and needed something compact for my briefcase, yet containing good info to refresh me on the diseases and illnesses I was encountering in my patients. This book fills the bill. My prof loved it too. The spiral binding is nice rather than a glued binding, but needs a bit of redesign as the back cover falls off. I just sewed up the openings with some fishing line to solve that problem. Highly recommended addition to your working library.

Book Description
Occupational safety and health professionals have become increasingly concerned with the development of Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs) in workers performing hand-intensive jobs. These disorders, which primarily affect the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system, are associated with repeated or sustained exertions in awkward or static postures, or with a high concentration of stress in the upper extremities. Research conducted at various worksites over the last few years confirmed earlier observations that attributed many of the CTDs to improperly designed work surfaces and/or improper selection of tools that place excessive stress on the tendons, muscles and nerves. In an occupational setting, the recommended intervention is to modify or redesign the job or tool to minimise the sources of biomechanical trauma. Based on the theory that work-related trauma is the principle casual factor, such action should result in a reduced incident of occupational musculoskeletal disorders. The information contained within this manual will help health professionals, workers and employers be more cognizant of the types of work patterns that have potential to cause various CTDs and be aware of the ergonomic interventions that can be adopted to reduce these problems in the workplace.
Customer Reviews:
AFWeber's review.......2000-11-15
This easy-to-understand book helps simplify the complexity of CTDs whether you're an HS&E professional, plant employee or person off the street. It's full of good visuals, practical applications and won't give you a hernia carrying it around! Great training aid to help people understand what's meant by a "neutral" posture or other technical terminology when you're preparing your next session. Valuable tool to have on your reference shelf. Used it during my undergraduate work and have been using it ever since as a reference tool. Too bad there aren't more like it.

Book Description
The Endocrine and Metabolic Testing Manual provides a succinct, practical guide for endocrinologists, nurses, and their staffs who need to make informed endocrine diagnoses using detailed standard methods and the most cost-effective procedures. The Third Edition features 29 new tests. In addition, a new section, Indications for Test, has been generated for most of the tests described, which identifies the most commonly accepted reasons for testing. The Third Edition also includes the latest CPT codes and indicates those in which direct physician involvement is particularly important. The testing of all endocrine organ systems, diabetes-related problems, renal, lipoprotein disorders, and physical fitness is addressed and helpful algorithms are presented. The manual offers a perspective on the most useful of a wide variety of tests aimed at making an endocrine diagnosis. Health care planners are sure to appreciate the estimate of supply costs useful for reimbursement of this aspect of testing.

ASIN: 0198568371 |
Book Description
In the early 1980s, two junior doctors from Oxford noted down all the medical information they found valuable to keep. As medical students they learned most not from organised lecturers but from clinical sessions - on the ward and in clinic. Useful notes were written on scraps of paper, and it was from this that the original Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine was born. No other book has entered the hearts, minds and pockets of so many doctors and medical students the world over. Now in its 7th edition, the main features and essence of the original edition remain unchanged. Developed over 21 years, the Handbook encompasses the experience, knowledge and wisdom of more than 10 different authors. With its characteristic combination of incisive guidance, wit, a lucid style, and memorable epigrams, it continues to be the leading pocket reference of clinical medicine. The 7th edition is fully equipped for the modern doctor with a brand new design with integrated full-colour pictures on common problems such as rashes, scars and jaundice. There is a new chapter on radiology, new information on consent and how to handle common calls, and greater coverage of medications and doses, clinical skills and surgery. There are also numerous other updates and improvements throughout, many suggested by extensive market research and reader's feedback. Three new junior co-authors have been brought on board to ensure that the content reflects what readers really need. All in all, the latest Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine is just what the doctor ordered.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good plus.......2007-10-04
An excellent reference for practicing Respiratory Practitioners [students?], Neonatologists and neonatalogist residents. Written in outline format for quick reference and will fit in labcoat if desired. Though lab coats should not be worn in NICU and PICU. The book is not designed to primarily learn from it, but offcourse by looking up facts and other info that is often easily forgetable you can say that the book can be used for learning from also. But ideally should be a book that is often nearby for rapid review/reference and use other Neonatal Respiratory Care books for primary books such as Perinatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care by Czervinske and Barnhart etc. Definitely worth the money.
MANUAL OD NEONATAL RESPIRATORY CARE.......2003-02-16
THIS IS AN EXCELLANT BOOK VERY WELL WRITTEN. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN IT IS VERY HELPFUL FOR ALL IN THE FIELD FROM RESPIRATPORY THERAPY STUDENTS TO RESIDENTS,AS WELL AS THE SEASONED PHYSICIAN. THE PRICE OF 140.00 WAS A LITTLE STEEP FOR STUDENTS TO PURCHACE. I WOULD SUGGEST THIS BOOK IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE PRICE.

Customer Reviews:
excellent resource for the health sciences.......2006-08-21
I used the book as much as I did my drug and nursing procedure book during nursing school. I wished I had it when I was in respiratory therapy school years ago because it's a fantastic book. It's concise, accurate and organized very well. It also further organizes each heading by causes, signs/symptoms, how diagnosed and treatment, etc.
Professional Guide to Diseases.......2003-01-19
This is an excellent book, pure and simple. It covers a wide variety of diseases, and explains each one well without going into excess and causing "information overload" (as some other medical reference books tend to do). Its format is clear and easily readable. It offers sound clinical and laboratory findings, making it a great resource material for students (such as myself). What impresses me the most is its coverage of the more rare diseases, something often neglected in other texts. I have found it invaluable in my studies, and highly recommend it.
Professional Guide to Diseases.......2001-08-29
This is the BEST medical book to have in your home health care library. I have the second addition and have used it countless time to look up ailments for my family and friends. Although it is written for the medical professional, I find it very readable for a layman like myself. When I became very ill with viral encephalitis, this book helped me understand what was happening to me, how to take care of myself, and to show my family what I was going through so they wouldn't worry. ... Again, I would recomend this book to the non-medical reader as a wonderful reference they will come bact to time and time again. ... And as an author, this text offers good hard facts on medical conditions my fictional characters have. ... Good book, I'm ordering the newest version today.
Professional Guide to Diseases 6th edition.......2000-04-17
The information is given to the reader in segments that are easy to follow and concise in content. It is organized well with contents at beginning of each chapter as well as an index in back of book for more specific topics. This book covers lab findings, signs & symptoms, nursing interventions and nursing diagnosis on each topic as well as much, much more. It does not limit itself to only the most common ailments but includes information on rarer diseases, as well. It has been an invaluable tool in my nursing practice.

Great Educational tool.......2007-09-08
I purchased this book for a Disease Process class and it covers just about everything. It's really giving me great insight on diseases and treatment options available. Great reference tool for future use.
Great overview of pathophysiology.......2007-01-30
Got this book for a basic pathophysiology course at college. The book covers all of the basics and gets into just enough detail to understand the topics without getting too confusing. Will keep the book in my personal library as a go-to guide and to refresh my memory about different topics. Great price too compared to many of my health-related textbooks.
Decent book, cheaper than the bookstore.......2006-08-09
I bought this book for college through Amazon because it was cheaper than buying it at the college bookstore. It's a pretty good book, however, I personally feel that they could have added a little more information to each topic.
