The CD companion is totally worth it alone.......2007-08-25
I don't really prefer kaplan's review text (the way the information is explained is to shallow/superficial for me), but I do have to say that the text is totally worth getting for the CD companion alone. Containing 2 CBT tests (with FANTASTIC explanations) and flashcards, the CD companion that the text comes packed with is totally worth the cash.
Excellent Study Aid for the MCAT.......2007-07-25
This book is excellent, I would recommend it to anyone who is going to take the MCAT exam, because this book is a great tool to help you tackle the exam. It provides you with helpful strategies, insights, and random facts that you need to know about the MCAT. This book is great.
AN AMAZING BUY!.......2007-07-23
i purchased this book at barnes and noble for almost double the cost and when i found it on amazon for much less i returned it. this is the most important book you will need for the MCATS by far!
Kaplan...worth 9/10ths of your penny.......2007-06-21
This is a ok book. It does not go into detail, whihc may be a good thing or a VERY bad thing, depending on how much help you need to the MCAT's. The book gives more of an outline of the important things without going into detail, whihc again may be good for sum, like me, but bad for sum1 who hasnt taken any science courses in a while. What I do with this book is usually use it as a reference to the princeton review material that I got from taking the princeton review course. Those books (princeton review) are just like the textbooks so you are getting TONS of info that is pretty much not needed and the books never teach you any strategies..the MCAT is not a MEMMORY test or else every1 with a 4.0 would get a 45..the MCAT is a THINKING test...so its not what you really know, it how you APPLY what you know...memorizing formulas wont do u any good if you cant apply them to the specified problem...so Kaplan is ok when it comes to giving "strategies" but if you want real practice..get the AMCAS exams and get EXAMKRACKERS VERBAL and BIO 1001 QUESTIONS those things are amazing! Hope this helps!!!
Very useful book.......2007-06-08
I really like the way the book is set up. It comes with a CD and an online program. You can take a diagnostic quiz to help determine what to focus on. Inside the book there are lots of useful tips on test strategies and there is material to help study for each section. Probably the best book out there to study for the MCATs. If you're going to buy one, I would definitely recommend this.

Best NAPLEX review available!.......2007-06-08
Complete this review and it will refresh your memory for the exam.
Extremely recommend to anyone who needs a good ref for NAPLEX.......2007-05-28
Well this book is given to new graduate who joins APhA at no cost....however even with price around 60 bucks..it's still worth to have one!
This book provides both synopsis of major pharmacy knowledge that will be appeared in NAPLEX and set of questions at the end of each chapter.
I found this book very helpful so far!
I will take this exam soon and hopefully I will pass the test!
A good book for NAPLEX.......2007-05-12
I found this book is a good source for review and will help to pass NAPLEX with good percentile.I encourage future candidates to buy and review this book. This book is a good combo with Comprehensive pharmacy review by Leaom Shargel and I believe enough to pass NAPLEX and FPGEC.I hope in future the fifth edition will be more comprehensive and detailed.
Not what I would expect from APhA.......2007-04-14
This book was advertised as all a student pharmacist would need to study the boards. I started a few weeks ago and I was dismayed after reviewing a few chapters. There are errors in virtually every chapter I have studied and the material is scattered and presented poorly. In some cases the material is cut and pasted twice with minor revision, as if the writer was updating the material and forgot to discard the previous version, an easy mistake to make but something an editor really should catch, as well as many of the other errors. This lack of attention to detail really makes me nervous relying on the book for the boards, not to mention a bit angry about paying so much for a review book that was suppost to be definitive. I realize that all books have some errors, but this seems to be a bit excessive. No mention of DPP-4 inhibitors in the diabetes section? I realize that Januvia was approved late in 2006 but the drug category was well known even back in 2005 and should at least be mentioned as a new class coming soon. I give the book 2 stars for at least compiling the material, but I would not recommend this to my friends. I have gone back to Dipiro for the basic information and skimmed this book after for any additional information
Good product.......2007-03-28
This book is great if you are looking for easy reading of different topics that you need to review upon before the national boards for pharmacist. Passing the national boards on the first time around is well worth the money for this book!
Book Description
Thoroughly revised and updated, the 4th Edition of this practical reference presents superbly illustrated guidance on the visual diagnosis of hundreds of common and important pediatric disorders. Accompanying text emphasizes pertinent historical factors, examination techniques, visual findings, and diagnostic methods rather than therapy. Expanded coverage from new contributors enhances readers' diagnostic skills, enabling them to take advantage of the best treatment options available. "This book is more than just an atlas. It contains thorough text in most major subspecialties of pediatric practice."*JAMA, rev. of last edition.
Customer Reviews:
Sigh...........2006-09-25
Another ubiquitous book. A "must have"....i don't own one. Don't want one. Too big. People just buy it for the pictures anyway, has anyone really read the text in Zitelli's? Most people use it as an atlas to review for boards...My logic is, if you're gonna just use it for pictures, why not buy the atlas by Shah? There are other atlases out there that are less cumbersome and cheaper. Plus, do you think the pedi board people will take a picture right out of a well-known text?
Useful as a bookend.
Could not be better.......2006-04-26
This is the finest text a pediatrician can own for daily practice, board brush up and companion to the standard textbooks. It can fill many gaps inherent in the nature of pediatric training and is eminently relevant. If the authors never pen another things, they can be forever proud of this work. Brava.
Must-Have for anyone in Peds.......2005-12-27
This is undoubtedly a must-have reference for anyone in pediatrics. This has a great collection of color images & is well-organized. The new edition is definitely weightier, but there is more text & more diagrams. Considering the cost, it's probably not worth getting the new edition if you already have the older one. However, if you're buying, buy the new one.
Treasure for pediatric residents.......2005-07-21
I became familiar with this book in the 3rd year of my medical school. I used a previous edition to study for USMLE 2. Figures and contents are excellent. Great resource to use in addition to Nelson's. This is a must buy book for every pediatric, med/peds, and family medicine residents.
A Must-Have.......2004-09-12
If you need to buy one Pediatric book for pictures, quick reference, and ease in using, it is this one. It is the first place I go when looking up specific pediatric pathology. It's application to general Pediaric is relevant to all facets of my practice.

Customer Reviews:
Very thorough review book!.......2007-07-31
I received this review book approximately a month before I took the PCAT, and I am convinced that this book helped me get into pharmacy school. If you are rusty in all PCAT subjects, I would recommend the book, but start studying early! It's true that there is quite a bit of information packed into this book. Thankfully I only needed the book for review of a couple subjects, but it certainly did help me with those. I especially appreciated the review questions for each section, as I learned quite a bit from my own errors and I could see how well I was doing in each category. Each answer to the multiple choice questions gives an explanation about why a certain answer is correct, and I know for a fact that at least one of the questions in the book was exactly the same question I saw on the exam itself. I will agree that the questions at times can give you a sense of hopelessness, as they are challenging. However, I found that preparing for much more difficult questions and getting used to those was the best thing I could do in preparation - it gave me a more in depth understanding of the subject matter which could then be applied to the questions I encountered on the actual PCAT, and it made me much more confident so that I was able to take the actual PCAT in less time.
For shame Kaplan.......2007-06-18
If one wonders about the disadvantages of a monopoly, look no further. Yes, there are other books, but only this company has complete access to the actual test, and since they have the corner on the PCAT test, test takers are at its mercy--and this book shows no mercy.
Use it if you want to lose all faith in yourself: by this, I mean, select a problem that you might think you are able to solve. Then wallow through the minutes wondering why you cannot figure it out. However, eventually, you'll get to the simple fact that there are more typos in this book than drug companies have defense lawyers.
It is a variety of errors though so at least you don't get bored. Sure the easy ones pose no challenge such as "Look at the molecule above" when there is no molecule. However, there are so many other errors that I have begun to doubt whether or not we will be given a fair playing field during the actual test.
Fortunately, I am able to ask a very friendly organic chem teacher who can explain to me the errors if I am unable to solve them myself.
I am truly starting to understand why so many California schools are doing away with such standardized tests.
A recommendation: increase the exorbant test prices $1.00 and hire someone to actually try the tests before you send it to the publisher. Embarrassing product for this "one- of- a- kind company."
I won't waste time proofing this posting as it would be iconic..err...that is ironic.
Boring...long and bland.......2007-05-29
Kaplan is infamous for writing these long exam prep books. Honestly I really couldn't sit down and read the whole thing. I have it more as quick reference on something I need help with. I found the PCAT prep from Audiolearn more helpful--which is very complete. If you really want to buy this book, buy it used!
PCAT textbook review... .......2007-01-23
I just took the PCAT on 1/20/07 and everything that the book says you should review was on the PCAT. This book was very helpful with the material it reviews. It also had great tips as far as getting through analogies and reading comprehension. I didn't find the review for the essay too helpful. The biology and chemistry review sections were helpful, but if you kept your notes in great order from general biology and chemistry, I wouldn't bother buying the textbook.
pcats study guide.......2007-01-20
Book was purchased for our daughter. Since it is a study guide we will have to wait and see!!

helped with boards.......2007-07-30
My scores are not back yet, but I can already tell that this review book helped. There were questions in there that reviewed things that I don't think I had learned previously that were asked on the test.
If the test is anything like this good luck.......2007-07-20
The questions are convoluted like another reviewer states.
If you memorize the book, you'll be in good shape. These
obstruse answers are stupid and have no application to the
real world. The straight forward questions will be recognized by all. If the test is like Bratton's one
might stand a chance. God save family practice it it's anything like this.
Family Practice Examination and Board Review.......2007-06-27
Very good review and I am actually relearning alot of pertinent information. A great study guide not only for FP's, but for anyone practicing primary care.
my review.......2007-05-29
arrived on time, as described and in excellent condition.
a wonderful book, well organized for expansive review.
staight forward.......2007-02-27
This review book has a straight forward question and answer foremat.
The reference sources located behind the answers of each chapter could have been more extensive.
But it had a comprehensive coverage of the topics needed for boards review.

Not just for doctors!.......2007-09-04
Excellent resource book that is written clearly enough for people who are not necessarily medically trained. Reading the chapter on my own heart condition allowed me to have a great conversation with my cardiologist that went beyond the usual "this is what you have, take these pills, see me again in 6 months....". This book is great!
Good review book.......2007-03-24
Very good review for Cardiology Boards. Not necessarily an easy read but the review books which are as such tend to be too simple. This is probably a good happy medium between the quickie review books and a Braunwald's
very good.......2007-03-10
very efficient delivery.
product in very good state.
concise but not as good as previous versions.......2007-03-10
This is the standard by which most other Cardiology board review texts are measured. This new version is not as readable in my opinion as its previous version. The whole reason I bought it was to avoid the Brunwauld-esque style, but alas I think this text book is becoming like the Braunwald text which certainly is not a review book. On the other hand, the ECG section in outline format was too bare bones. All in all, not the greatest review book in the world but not too many viable alternatives when trying to review for Cardiology Boards. I guess it's the only game in town.
Better than others.......2003-11-07
Unfortunately, there is a dearth of "cardiology-review books", especially when it comes to ABIM Cardiology Boards preparation. There is NOT a single review book written keeping in mind that it has be used ONLY for ABIM cardiology boards. This book at least tries to achieve this goal, but does a mediocre job. It has many expert academicians as its authors; agreed; but it did not achieve its primary goal. Do you any better choices, unfortunately NOT.
The primary goal of a review book is to remain focused, cut the extra fat and present to it readers "only the needed facts". In medical academia, there are three levels of books, in my humble opinion. FIRST, the standard texts, which are written primarily for the thorough discussion of the disease and serve as reference books, in cardiology its example will be Hurst's textbook. SECOND, the review books, which are primarily written to pass the exams and it assumes that the reader has the basic understanding of the subject. THIRD, the in-between books which claim to be review books but goes beyond the "call of duty" and starts explaining pathophysiology and unrelated material which is extremely redundant approach for a review book.
Mayo Clinic Cardiology Review 2nd Ed belongs to third category. But then why it is popular and why I am reading it, moreover why I am writing such an extensive review? Because, we don't have any decent book for second category, so this is the logical choice till someone writes a better review-book (a real review book, not 1381 paged book). I hope that while writing the third edition Joseph G. Murphy MD keeps in mind that this is a "REVIEW BOOK" not a "TEXTBOOK"!

excellent!.......2007-06-27
fast shipping!!came on time and the book was as described! i'd defitely order from them again.
Slightly Dry.......2007-02-10
I have been working through this review. I find the helpful hints interesting. I wish the author would just leave out information that is not really applicable to the exam. I am sure that it is good to know these things, but if it isn't needed for the exam why clutter my brain with it?? The knowledge base is good. I have not found any obvious errors.
Best review book I've found!.......2007-01-30
The first review book I bought was so dry and boring that I couldn't get through the first chapter. This book was easy to read and understand. It broke the content into seperate subjects so that it was easy to focus on my weak points. Also, at the start of each chapter it tells you how the test is weighted, so that you concentrate on the subjects that will have the most questions on the test. At the end of each section there are review questions for practice.
The only thing that would make this book better is if it had the practice questions on CD.
And I passed CCRN on the first try!
Good resource for a thorough CCRN review.......2006-12-07
I used this book as another reference for my CCRN review and I find the information very detailed and helpful , such as laboratory values (Renal, Hematology and Electrolytes), and predicting location of myocardial infarction and other dysrhythmias using 12-lead EKG.
Also, my area of weakness is Neurology and this book helped me with the information I needed for the examination. The practice questions are great and so are the comprehensive tests.
It would have been great if the book came with a CD software containing more practice exams.
Nevertheless, I passed the CCRN exam with the help of this book!

If you need it.......2007-09-29
This book has alot of information in it. I kind of wish I did not get the book because my teacher has notes for everything she wants us to know. I've tried reading it but... I believe it would make a good reference book when you need to look something up.
Amazing.......2007-09-19
My books (all of them) were received in excellent condition and in lightning fast speed on schedule. Just in the nick of time!
Great Service.......2007-06-15
The product arrived in the time frame as stated. The book is perfect.
Mosby's Handbook.......2007-05-24
Excellent resourse for health care professionals, there is a big focus on communication which I think is very important in primary care.
Gold standard.......2007-01-11
This seems to be the common text for most medical training programs. Excellent pictures. Covers most things in Basic concepts without too much detail. Detail is left to other books on each subject.

Your CS survival guide from the authors of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1! This preparation guide for the USMLE Step 2 CS (Clinical Skills Exam) includes the most frequently tested patient cases, discussions of each case, as well as test-taking strategies and must-know facts. The Step 2 CS is mandatory for all U.S. and Canadian medical school graduates beginning with the class of 2005 and is also mandatory for all international medical graduates seeking U.S. medical certification.

The only book a US student needs for this exam.......2007-10-04
Of all the First Aid books I've used (Step 1, Step 2 CK, Wards), this is the only one that I'd use as stand-alone prep for the exam. I finally coughed up $45 for this book after trying unsuccessfully to figure out the basics of the exam from the info provided by USMLE (i.e. structure, timing, scoring, topics). It was completely worth it. Every case I had on the real exam was very, very familiar, after studying for only 3 days. Most important, I knew what I needed to do to earn points. Don't waste time or money with anything else.
Very helpful for CS.......2007-09-26
This review book was very helpful in taking Step 2 CS. It contains more info than you need, but is organized in a manner where you can easily skip what you don't need. The "minicases" were tremendously helpful, if for no other reason than just brushing up on diagnoses I hadn't thought about in months... If you have time, you can look over the practice cases, but those are skippable if you're crunched for time. I started reviewing 1 week prior to the exam & I think I did just fine.
SUPER IMPORTANT ITEM.......2007-09-02
THIS IS A BASIC FOR PASSING STEP 2 CS, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WORK UP, THE MINICASES ARE VERY HELPFULL, BUY IT WITH CONFIDENCE, IT IS A GREAT BOOK
Gotta have it, not to learn, but to alleviate anxiety........2007-08-27
The great thing about this book is that it demystifies the CS so you know EXACTLY what is coming at you. Not so much the actual cases, nobody can do that for you, but you'll know the format, time constraints, everything about the exam right down to the pesky little details. I didn't bother reading any of the cases, but the book was worth the purchase just so I knew about the test itself and could prepare myself mentally. I was kind of freaking out about this exam until I read this book, the day of the exam, I was totally relaxed and I wasn't surprised by anything.
I can't comment on the cases other than to say there is quite a few of them in here.
I would buy this book again knowing what is in it, and what was involved with the test.
This book will not guarantee a pass for you, nothing can. A fellow medical student that took the exam the same day as me at the same center failed, and he read it cover to cover.
Best thing to do with this book is read about the exam itself, ignore the rest, and do your best to relax the day of the exam (alprazolam or beta blockers never hurt either if you need them) and treat it like any other day at the clinic.
Good luck.
Perfect stud tool.......2007-07-04
If you are planning on taking the USMLE Step 2, don't underestimate the test. This book is a sine qua non condition to pass the test. It doesn't matter how confident or how easy you think you are. The test is all about practice, and this little book has everything you need to know to perform and pass.
Seriously folks, get this book to study or DON'T GO TO THE TEST.
Practice, Practice, Practice!

Just what I needed!.......2007-07-08
This is a great review book. It isn't swarming in details and really outlines the high yield stuff for step 2 without being overwhelming. Format is similar to a text book...but there are lots of memorization charts that are helpful.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!.......2006-11-30
This book is amazing. I used for the USMLE Step 2 CK and get a 220. I used with the First Aid, because this book has different information than the FA. I highly recomend to read chapter 29-34 a couple of time they are very helpful.
Good Luck!!!!!
Well presented chapter but .............2006-11-06
If you are looking to add further information to this book ( as is needed from other sources ) the fact that the contents are not in alphabetical order might waste allot of time flipping back and forth and on every occassion having to look to the content table. Unlike First Aid, where the contents are in alphbetical order ( ex: Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Endocrine .... etc.). If it was alphabetical it would allow for faster and more efficient stydying as is needed in preperation of a Step exam. Best of luck.
useful book.......2006-08-07
The format is excellent. Concise and easy to read; a lot of pertinent information for the step 2 preparation.
great book.......2006-07-10
everything it claims to be, and a great brush up before step 2.
