Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

For over one hundred years, this resource has been an indispensable tool for biblical scholars. Now back by demand, the second edition includes an extensive Hebrew index by internationally renowned Septuagint scholar Takamitsu Muraoka, which lists all of the Greek words used to translate each Hebrew and Aramaic word. This edition also includes an introductory essay by Septuagint scholars Robert Kraft and Emanuel Tov and an improved system for utilizing the appendices.

5 out of 5 stars eyes on the text(s).......2007-01-06

Before there were computers, before there were even ball point pens, Edwin Hatch and Henry Redpath churned out this fundamental work on the Greek Old Testament. The laborious care--one wants to say love--which they brought to the first translation of the Hebrew Bible is a testament to that species of linguistic rigor and respect for the text that is too rare in the humanities and even in biblical studies these days.

The result is 'Hatch & Redpath' or 'H & R', as this massive work is invariably known, an anthology of every Greek word that appears in the Septuagint and a list of the passages in which it occurs. Having done my own doctoral work in the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament), I have lingered over the monotony and the glory of Hatch & Redpath for days, hours, weeks. Months even. I have seen its limitations and occasional errors enough to know that they are the exception that proves the rule of exactness that was the m.o. of Messieurs Hatch & Redpath.

Some contend that computers and databases now take the place of this incessantly reissued anthology of information.

I doubt it.

5 out of 5 stars A thick, but helpful tool.......2000-10-22

This is a thick book, both physically in its size, and in the material it contains. It lists every Greek word in the Septuagint (canonical and apocryphal), followed by the Hebrew words corresponding to the Greek ones, and then every book and verse the word appears in, and the context of each verse! Appendix One has all the Greek proper names. Appendix two gives a complete concordance of the Greek Ecclesiasticus when compared to the Hebrew fragments. Appendix three gives a concordance of the Hexapleric fragments that scholars possess. Appendix four is a newer part (from 1998), and lists Hebrew and Aramaic words and their LXX equivalent. As can be seen, this is one large book (1860 pages). This edition also contains a good introduction, which was added in 1998. The original edition came out in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

The only drawback would be that the English translation of each Greek word is not given. So in other words, to fully appreciate this you would need to know Greek, or else have a good Lexicon handy. Since most folks using this would probably be scholars, or know Greek, this shouldn't be a problem. Overall, a fine and massive work!

4 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for ancient magical practices!.......2005-09-05

Personally, I am astounded to be able to find such an antiquated work available. I found it fascinating and engrossing. As far as actually using the spells, that is not my area of interest. I am a researcher of everything esoteric and this book is a wonderful addition to my library.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Book of Magic.......2005-08-25

The Sixth and Seventh Book of Moses speaks of religious magic, both black and white. It is insightful as far as spells and makes for a fascinating read whether you are a magician practicing spells or just curious about magic.

1 out of 5 stars "Worst" and "Don't use help departmant".......2003-07-04

If you are reading this text just don't buy this book (if u live in USA it's ok) I have ordered 15 books since now and this book is in worst condition. Here problems..
1.The book came with other 12 books but it was much different from them.It was like "used."
2.The page size of book ise 21x28 cm and the text size in the pages are 9x16 cm size!! "Imagine that you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader and zoom out the text to %40 and printin it on a %100 size page and put the text on right-middle of the paper"!!!
The letters are so small that i can read them hardly when there is 10 cm distance between my eyes and the book...
3.Also the letters are indistinct and the
seals&sigils in the book are in black-white color and the white and black colors are so mixed that you cant understand what shape the picture has.You can draw Lucifer's seal instead of Micheal's.Beaware..
4.I couldnt swear at the publisher of the book cuz the i still dont know the publisher.(Egyptian Publishin or Kessinger publishin or both of them? on front it is written egyp publishin but 1 st page it is written kessinger.LOL)
5.The cover of the book is in full purple color like school books of 7 years old children.
5.If u are from USA buy this books and u can take it back to amazon.com but if u are from countries like Turkey,Iraq, Iran,Egypt,Greece etc. u cant send it back in 30 days.
6.Never try to get help from help departmant about this book.I tried, i asked 10 questions and they answered 2 of em.Also i have waited for them to reply my mail for 5 days and when they didnt answer i was shocked cuz my time was already short and they cut 5 more from 30.

2 out of 5 stars Speaky English ?!?.......2002-12-27

I bought this book a while ago after reading a few of the commentaries and then thinking it's a great book. The seals of Moses themselves are good but the information in this book does not seem to be written in a way for a normal human being to understand how the heck to correctly implement it.

From what I learned, the seals in the beginning of the book are good and then after that, the rest of the stuff is more or less useless or more difficult to figure out.

Fortunately, I had talked to someone who had actually used these seals correctly before and they elaborated on some of the things for me.
But if I was to try to do it correctly just by reading this book, that's NOT going to happen!

At least I can finally figure some of the things in this book out to add to my magick knowledge - after much difficulty.

2 out of 5 stars A curruption of Kabballist Doctrine.......2002-07-31

While I have not used this book for practical purposes, it is obviously a bland attempt to make the Word of God and the Torah some kind of mock-up for Christian Doctrine. It tries to prove that these writings work. Whether they do or not is up to the Practical Kabballist, however, no matter how well people want to believe it, Christianity has as much in common with Jews as Muslims do with Christains. The Holy Torah and Kabballah are ancient. This writing obviously was after the 1500's which was after Agrippa, because they mention him several times.

To me, this could be as practical as the Necronomicon. Yes, the spells may work, but one would have to genuinely understand the system behind it. It seems haphazardly put together and explained very poorly. The document itself is poorly copied and one can hardly make out the hebrew letters. I know a "little" hebrew and some of the translation of the characters makes no sense. Some of it is latin, greek and hebrew.

In my opinion this was put together by a contemporary of Agrippa who thought that it would be cool to put something like this together just like he did. It is sloppy, poorly written, and hardly should grace the libraries of some more serious mages and Kabballists alike. Christains shouldn't even read it unless they are inclined towards Kabballah as well for some of it will be lost on them. However most of it is trying to explain how the Hebrew system is really for some kind of "New Covenant" which has never been made by God or anyone and is never mentioned in the Bible, New or Old Testament or Gnostic writings for that matter.

In short, look elsewhere. This does not deserve the attention of serious scholars. In the words of Le Var Burton, "But you don't have to take my word for it..."

I'll keep it short- any one that is interested in any religeon: Christianity, Wicca, Thelema whatever it is for you, J.G. Frazer's Golden Bough and this book is where you start. Read this and go from there. Highly reccomended. It's a little dry, this book was written way back when and Mr. Frazer isn't the most exciting writer, but the info is a great step for any seeker.

3 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Companion to the Bible Itself.......2007-01-12

This book contains many writings that were simply left out of the final version of the Bible. The inside flap notes that the church suppressed many of these documents. Nevertheless, these writings do not provide any information that is truly spectacular by 21st Century standards. These documents were likely omitted because they did not fit into the neat chronology of the Bible, showed women in a stronger role than was acceptable in medieval times, or suggested that Christ made mistakes as a youth.

"The Acts of Paul and Thecla" describe a woman who helped spread the word of God. The document clearly shows her as a strong woman and a true disciple. Church elders of the medieval period probably felt that a story of a strong female was inappropriate for women of that period. The events surrounding her persecution are filled with miracles. She survived attempts to kill her through burning and attacks by wild beasts. In the end, she disappeared into a crack in a rock that was created by God. God then closed the opening behind her.

The first part of the book describes the birth of the Virgin Mary and her marriage to Joseph. The book also contains writings that describe the adolescent years of Jesus and the magical powers of the cloth used to wrap him as a baby. Some events show Jesus in a less than perfect light. These writings nevertheless describe a part of the Gospel that is not widely known.

Some parts of the book flow easily while other writings are difficult to follow. The books of Hermas provide an example of easy reading and tedious reading. "The First Book of Hermas," tells an interesting story. He passes near a great beast, one hundred feet long with locusts coming out of its mouth. Hermas was not killed by the beast as he had faith that the Lord would protect him. The third book talks of mountains and stones that are used to build a tower. Only after struggling through this document does the reader learn that the tower is a metaphor for the house of God.

The end of the book contains multiple letters from Pontius Pilate and Herod. Herod talks about how he is paying the price for killing John the Baptist. Pilate sends letters to Tiberius Caesar, which recount his reasons for crucifying Jesus. His letters also discuss the miracles surrounding Jesus such as the raising of Lazarus, and the earthquake following the crucifixion. These documents note that Tiberius subsequently killed Pilate for his role in the crucifixion.

Like the Bible itself, this book is a compilation of ancient writings. Also like the Bible, the documents are presented in two vertical columns per page. This book is a fascinating companion to the Bible. It provides insight to events surrounding the New Testament that are mostly unknown. Bottom line: a semi tough read but well worth the effort.

5 out of 5 stars Back to my roots.......2006-07-27

I bought this back in college and just now got around to reading it. It's basically a collection of apocryphal and otherwise "unaccepted" texts regarding Jesus of Nazareth and his apostles.

Most of it was letters to various congregations, with messages such as "Be more patient with eachother. Infighting doesn't do us any good" and "Jesus still love you even though he's gone to Heaven". However, the parts I found interesting as a former Catholic were the books that filled in some of the blanks about Jesus' life, particularly as a child.

Apparently Jesus was not the nicest kid to be around. He was incredibly intelligent and confounded his teachers to no end because he already knew everything. However, what really got me was how he treated people who made him angry. On more than one occasion he killed his playmates if they made him made, transformed them into goats for the fun of it, or otherwise wreaked havoc til the neighbors complained and Joseph and Mary had to bring him inside. No wonder the early church fathers cut these out of the Bible! Not a very flattering picture!

However, there were some interesting "rest of the stories" about his adulthood, too. Apparently the robbers who were crucified next to him came from an incident in his childhood, and that was an intrguing tie-in. In fact, a lot of the folks from his childhood came back to play key roles as her got older; many of the apostles were children he healed of illnesses. I also thought the description of Jesus descending into Hell after the crucifixion and pulling Adam out of there was an appropriate story.

I like this because it makes the Christian mythos more complete. Some of it, to be sure, came about long after his death, but then again great figures in history and mythology often grow greater with the passing years.

To be sure, I'm still comfortable in my own (non-Christian) beliefs. However, this is a nice addition to the traditions I was raised in as a child, the stuff they don;'t teach you in Catholic school.

2 out of 5 stars Not Really Lost Books of the Bible.......2006-07-08

These do not seem to be any "Lost Books of the Bible." Many of them were most likely composed after the 2nd century and in the third and fourth. In the Protoevangelion the story of Mary's immaculate conception is told and could have been an influence on the Church's Mariology. In other books, people may have wanted to fill in some of Jesus' life. In the Infancy several times Mary uses the clothes or bathe water of Jesus to heal people. This also contains the story about Jesus speaking even while in the cradle, which I believe found its way into the Koran. Jesus kills several people as a child and later on takes over and teaches his teachers. Of last interest was the writer's claims that Jesus studied the law until aged 30. Nicodemus gives more information on the trial of Jesus and then switched to the story of Jesus's descension into hell and victory. I never knew that Beelzebub, the Prince of Hell, was different from Satan.

Some of these books are said to have been written by some early church fathers. These don't necessarily have to be in the Bible. One important thing was to speak against schism and to strengthen the authority of the bishops, presbyters, and etc... I believe the best written was I Clement. The rest were really boring. From what I can tell, Hermas and other books did not conflict the doctrines of Christianity. They could be as lesson books, but many just did not seem as well elevated in writings style as the books of the NT, and I don't they they belong in the Bible. Most were a stuggle to get through because they were boring. Some people get the idea that a verse in Hermas about the archangel Michael indicates that he was Jesus. I think the closest book to the NT was the epistle of Barnabas. The writings style seemed close to the NT style. I believe Barnabas has the strongest claim to being part of the canon, out of this selection, but I am no expert. Some letters of Seneca, Paul, Pilate, and Herod are probably not authentic and quite ridiculous.

Lastly, I thought the little table of early writers on the catologue of the NT books was very interesting. It starts with Origen in 210 A.D. and goes to the Council of Carthage in 390 A.D. For the most part they all agreed on the same books, yet some noted that people doubted James and Jude. Revelation seems like the most disputed of books, but most seemed to have agreed to it. The more I read of these book not considered canonical, the more I think these people did a good job in the selection. And as some people note, not all these books are considered as bad, they just are not considered as canonical. There are plenty of books written since those early days which are given high importance, yet not considered as scripture and Christian fiction still continues to be written today.

The detail in this book is so descriptive and accurate that there is no way that anyone could declare it to be false. As a matter of fact this is where readers of the Holy Bible should question how or rather "who" compiled the chapters that would makeup the (1) Old Testament and (2) New Testament? At the time that these books were comprised, there was much turmoil in the catholic church and scripture as we know of it today was not available to the common man. The world is grateful for their sacrifices of course in providing that which they could but it was incomplete!

Example #1: The Story of Lot
In the various bible translations of Lot's exodus from Sodom it is written in the final phase that once he and his daughters arrived safely to a cave and there Lots' daughters conspired, drunken their father with wine and "lay with him." Did you get that? Surely, this could not be true and in the Book of Enoch the truth is finally told. For it states that "Lot (not the daughters as written in the KJV, NKJV, NIV and many others) committed a sin like unto that of Sodom and layed with his daughters. THEREFORE, LOT'S NAME AND HIS SEED WAS REMOVED FROM THE HEAVENLY TABLETS!!!"

Nevertheless, "Enoch walked with GOD, left a written testament that states that it was for all throughout the generations until the judgement."

LISTEN UP EVERYONE: WICCAN, MYSTICS AND GNOSTICS READ THIS BOOK BUT NOT CHRISTIANS AND BELIEVERS IN THE ONE GOD???

Was Enoch any of these??? Of course not!!!

As a matter of fact in many bible translations, Enoch is spelt "Henoch" in the Douay-Rheims bible version.

Every person on the planet should read this book. Keep a copy in your home and a spare copy for your office...:-).

Final word and food for thought for those familiar with Biblical Numerology:

If you add together the numbers in the ISBN it equals 51.

Suggested readings: Chapters 51 of the Book of Isaiah, Ecclesiasticus and Jeremiah.

Be amazed and be blessed!

Peace unto you all and purchase your copy today if you don't already have one!!!

5 out of 5 stars The scritpure that Satan and his church didnt want you to see........2006-01-05

According to the biblical narrative (Genesis 5:21-24), Enoch lived 365 years, far less than the other patriarchs in the period before the Flood. Enoch allegedly walked with God who turned him into the archangel Metatron.

He called the people back to his forefathers' religion, but only a few listened to him, while the majority turned away. According to the Talmud Selections when the people went astray, Enoch who lived a pious life in seclusion was given prophethood. He came among the people and by his sermons and speeches made the people give up the idolatory and obey the Command of God. Enoch ruled them and during his reign there was peace and justice.

Prophet Enoch and his followers left Babylon for Egypt. There he carried on his mission, calling people to what is just and fair, teaching them certain prayers and instructing them to fast on certain days and to give a portion of their wealth to the poor.
Enoch was the first to invent books and writing, much like Thoth the scribe.
The ancient Greeks declare that Enoch is the same as Mercury / Hermes Trismegistus writing the Emerald Tablets of Thoth.
Enoch taught the sons of men the art of building cities, and enacted some admirable laws. He discovered the knowledge of the Zodiac, and the course of the Planets; and he pointed out to the sons of men, that they should worship God, that they should fast, that they should pray, that they should give alms, votive offerings, and tenths. He reprobated abominable foods and drunkenness, and appointed festivals for sacrifices to the Sun, at each of the Zodiacal Signs.

Enoch's name signified in the Hebrew, Initiate or Initiator. The legend of the columns, of granite and brass or bronze, erected by him, is probably symbolical. That of bronze, which survived the flood, is supposed to symbolize the mysteries, of which Masonry is the legitimate successor from the earliest times the custodian and depository of the great philosophical and religious truths, unknown to the world at large, and handed down from age to age by an unbroken current of tradition, embodied in symbols, emblems, and allegories.
There was a substantial Zoroastrian Influence on Judaism when Jewish exiles were exposed to the Persian religion during the Babylonian captivity. Some Jews adopted Enochian tradition in Babylon during the Exile and brought it back to Canaan when Cyrus gave them leave to Return. The Enochian Jews were detested by the priesthood in Jerusalem, and they were forced to flee into the desert before 300 BCE. Naturally, they supported the Maccabees during the uprising of 165 BCE. The Enochians at Qumran 'updated' the text to include Judah the Hammer in the big story.
The last of the Essene stragglers buried the secret book in Cave IV at Qumran c.70 CE. The urban Christians and Jews of the Near East rejected it. The authors of the Apocalypse rewrote and retitled it, but they didn't understand the heptadic structure of the original lines, the arrangement of sevens. Only the students of the Merkabah in Babylonia possessed the key to the Enochian mystery.
The Book of Enoch is a pseudo-epigraphal work that claims to be written by a biblical character. It was not included in either the Hebrew or most Christian biblical canons, but could have been considered a sacred text by the sectarians. The original Aramaic version was lost until several Dead Sea Scroll fragments were discovered in Qumran Cave 4 - providing parts of the Aramaic original.
The Book of Enoch was first discovered in Abyssinia in the year 1773 by a Scottish explorer named James Bruce. In 1821 The Book of Enoch was translated by Richard Laurence and published in a number of successive editions, culminating in the 1883 edition.
Enoch acts as a scribe, writing up a petition on behalf of the fallen angels, or fallen ones, to be given to a higher power for ultimate judgment.
Christianity adopted some ideas from Enoch, including the Final Judgment, the concept of demons, the origins of evil and the fallen angels, and the coming of a Messiah and ultimately, a Messianic kingdom.
The Book of Enoch was removed from the Bible and banned by the early church. Copies of it were found to have survived in Ethiopia, and fragments in Greece and Italy.
Enoch is the supposed author of 366 books, collectively termed Enochian literature. The most famous writings bearing his name are the First, Second, and Third Books of Enoch, ranked among the large body of literature termed apocryphal and pseudepigraphical, meaning that they are noncanonical (not accepted into the body of recognized books of the Bible) and are-in the case of the pseudepigrapha-attributed to some person of note and written in the style of genuine biblical books. Most interesting of all the legends is the one in which Enoch was transported to heaven and there transformed into the angel Metatron. Once there, he was, with the divine flourish, made into Metatron, the angel of the face, high priest of the heavenly temple, and one of the supreme angels in all of the celestial hierarchy-not to mention the tallest of angels, with 36 wings and 265,000 eyes.

The three so-called pseudepigraphical works were allegedly written by or under the influence of the antediluvian patriarch Enoch, who was taken up to heaven by the Lord, an event described in the Book of Genesis (5:24); pseudepigraphical writings are those that are noncanonical (meaning not accepted into the body of biblical books) and were composed in a style intending to resemble or appear as authentic biblical literature, often assuming the title of some personage known to the audience. In the case of the Books of Enoch, the actual writers or compilers chose a figure who was the source of many legends and tales, the most notable being his transformation by God into the truly powerful angel Metatron. While decidedly uncanonical, the three books remain fascinating and colorful reading, as well as treasures of detail and fanciful images concerning angels.
1 ENOCH-Known also as the Ethiopic Book of Enoch from the fact that the only surviving complete manuscript of it is in Ethiopic , this is the oldest of the three Enoch books, dating to the mid-second century B.C., although it actually comprises various sections, each dated differently: "The Book of Noah"; "Similitudes"; "The Dream Visions"; "Apocalypse of the Weeks"; and "The Book of the Heavenly Luminaries." Aside from material on Gehenna and heaven and the nature of evil, the text is full of stories and accounts of angels. The writer covers the fall of angels, the names of the archangels, and the fire of the luminaries of heaven. The reader thus encounters such angelic personages as Raguel, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, Michael, and Saraqael.

2 ENOCH-Known also as the Slavonic Book of Enoch because the only extant version is a Slavonic translation of the Greek original text, this specific edition dates to the seventh century A. D., although it is based on a much older Jewish text of the first century. A.D. While similar in some ways to the first book of Enoch and perhaps using it as a source, the Slavonic Enoch details Enoch's journey through the seven heavens, the life of Enoch's successors, especially Methuselah, and then gives a forecast of the Great Flood that encompassed the world in later generations. There are descriptions of angels residing in the heavens.

3 ENOCH-Also called the Hebrew Apocalypse of Enoch, this is a Jewish writing dating probably to the second century A.D. It was allegedly written by the noted Rabbi Ishmael, a brilliant scholar of Palestine during the early second century A.D. He reputes to recount his journey to heaven, where he beheld the very throne of God, along with the hosts of angels. His information was granted to him by the archangel Metatron, the onetime patriarch Enoch. This work remains perhaps the single greatest compendium of angelic lore, including a comprehensive assemblage of angels, archangels, and holy creatures, such as the watchers and holy ones.

3 out of 5 stars Not a magical test at all .......2005-08-23

Many people seem to beleive this is a magical text, indeed the fullest explination of this work's application to magic is found in the Greek and Hebrew versions, and is only partly found in the COMPLETE translation, of which this is only one part.
Even then, there is very little of use here for either the serious magician or the studnet of Christianity. For the casual reader, this text may have some slight appeal, which gives it one star. Two stars go toward its being republished at all. The original version of the text is available in Hebrew reprints and in used book stores, as well as in many modified versions by authors who have an axe of some kind to grind. If it is a text for initiates, I would urge these initiates to learn Greek and Hebrew and read the originals, which are still available - some of them in rather inexpensive editions.

5 out of 5 stars ONLY FOR THE INITIATED.......2004-10-23

This is the penultimate apocryphal text, but it is important to keep in mind that the word "apocrypha" simply means cryptic--- intended only for the initiated. All esoteric philosophy & much of mythology alludes to these "fallen angels" as having passed down their wisdom to mankind. Many myths declare them to be our progenitors. They are alluded to in Genesis 6, but only just. Here is much more of the story... an extra-biblical text equal in intensity to Revelation.

2 out of 5 stars Revival of fallen angel legends from c.200 BC.......2003-08-29

For those that are familiar with the Enoch literature this is a reprint of R.H. Charles shorter SPCK translation, not a facsimile of the full 1912 edition with all Charles' essays and notes. The extra pages are occupied with an introduction by R.A. Gilbert who has prefaced another half dozen similar genre reprints from the same publisher. That means this is 1 Enoch (Aramaic-Coptic Enoch), not 2 Enoch (Slavonic Enoch) or 3 Enoch (Hebrew Enoch). The 3 books, together with 'Jubilees' represent 4 very different versions of fallen angel myths. R.H. Charles' translations were ground-breaking at the time but for anyone with a serious interest in Jewish literature it is now no substitute for the scholarly translations of all 4 texts, among others, found in 'The Old Testament Pseudepigrapha: Apocalyptic Literature and Testaments (Old Testament Pseudepigraphia Vol 1) by James H. Charlesworth. Supplemented perhaps by Enochic material in the Dead Sea Scrolls (Vermes or Martinez editions).

For those that are not familiar with the Book of Enoch what we have here is a legend originating as a midrash on Genesis 6 (concerning the "sons of God and the daughters of men") in the time of the Maccabees. Although a lot of the midrashic material in the book is taken from elsewhere than Genesis. Such as the famous (or infamous) Jude 14 quote of from 1 Enoch 1:9, where Jude's quote is in turn a midrash based on Deuteronomy 33:2, i.e. words spoken by Moses and not the Biblical Enoch of whom no words are recorded. An account of the origin and growth of the Enoch myth in Second Temple period Judaism [aka "the Intertestamental Period"] is found in 'Jewish Literature Between the Bible and the Mishnah: An Historical and Literary Introduction' by George W. E., Nickelsburg.

The myth's reception in both Judaism and early Christianity was mixed. The Pharisee author of Liber Antiquarum known as Pseudo-Philo, and several pre-Mishnah and pre-Talmud rabbis rejected the interpretation of Genesis 6 'sons of God' as being about the fall of angels and they were followed in this by Jesus of Nazareth who said that "angels do not marry" and equated "the sons of God" with "sons of the resurrection". But equally Josephus, also a Pharisee, and Philo seem to have accepted the basic premise of the Enoch story. The book's popularity is illustrated by the various copies found at Qumran.

Both Peter and Jude quote from 1 Enoch more than is commonly realised. Peter's description of "chains of darkness" is drawn on the angel Uriel imprisoning the 200 fallen angels in Tartarus. Likewise Jude's "Enoch the seventh from Adam" is itself a quote from 1 Enoch not Genesis. This has led many readers, including R.A. Gilbert the editor of this reprint, to assume that Peter and Jude accepted the book as scripture. Of course quoting a book only proves you accept the book if you then agree with it. Those making this assumption tend to skip over such comments as Jude saying Michael would "not even rebuke" other heavenly beings - when the central event of 1 Enoch is the complaint of Michael to God in the heavenly throne room against the 200 fallen angels which gives Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael license to imprison them. Anyway, buy a translation of Enoch, read Peter and Jude and make up your own mind about whether they consider 1 Enoch scripture or, in Peter's words, "cunningly devised fables". You might also note that all extant Greek manuscripts of Jude have "Enoch prophesied TO these men", not "ABOUT these men" as the KJV has it. Small word, big difference. After the early Christian period Enoch enjoyed a vogue in the period from Tertullian (a real Enoch enthusiast) to Origen. After which the development of a new doctrine for the origin of the Devil based on Isaiah made Enoch redundant and it was sidelined into Coptic and Slavonic Christianity. Jews largely rejected the fallen angel myth from Trypho the Jew onwards - and Enochic material was excluded from both Jewish and Christian editions of the Septuagint, the Vulgate (and hence the apocrypha of the modern Jerusalem Bible), Mishnah, and Talmud.

In the modern era Enoch has come back into fashion again, partly due to the discovery of copies in Africa and Israel, partly due to the evident appeal of a story which tells the gaudy details of heavenly beings' sexual relations with human women and the fall of the rebel angels on which the Bible is so disappointingly negative.

For those to whom this story has less inherent appeal it is also interesting - if only to show what the NT writers were competing with.

I was raised with the King James version of the Bible and have difficulty accepting other translations.I acquired my copy of The Lost Books at a garage sale and I enjoy it so much I ordered one for my grandson. Not only is it great to read from a historical point, it is easy to read.It reads like a very good novel. The chapters are tied together chronologicaly which holds you attention and keeps you reading for hours on end.I have heard of this book all of my life .To finally have a copy is a treasure and a dream come true.

4 out of 5 stars Brethren, you should not be ignorant ........2007-06-08

Human nature dictates that anything new or different to us we tend to reject or fear it.
As a Jesus believing jew, I am well aware that were more biblical writings and books out there. In Judaism,we have the Talmud, Mishnah, Midrash, etc. After doing some research, I come to realize that in the beginning, there were three bibles. The Hebrew Text, The Greek Text, and the Vulgate. Well, Over the centuries a lot of the material that comprises these works have been lost due to time, and church, and governmental politics.
When approaching a modern-day Christian with this book, they would immediately reject it, and possibly go on the defensive. But, once realized that for centuries the church has withheld the information, or if it did not come out of Rome it is heresy. Oh well.
It was bad enough when the Roman Church kept many of this works hidden. But add the Protestant Reformation which did more harm and rejected some of the already accepted books of the bible. Well, that explains why we are so ignorant in the Church.
This book should be a must read for all Christians. The established denominations will not like it, but, if it is all of the inspired word of God that can help me get to heaven, and live a godly life here on earth, then I will read and listen to what God puts in front of me to absorb.
Not what man or the church says.

1 out of 5 stars please don't be led astray by these "lost books".......2007-04-09

a review above quoted "Now I know why. The Gospel of Thomas lays waste to the notion that Jesus was `the only begotten Son of God' and obviates the need for a formalized church when he says, `When your leaders tell you that God is in heaven, say rather, God is within you, and without you."

this thinking is a classic example of eastern mythology, which directly contradicts all that Christianity is about. (i.e. the eastern religions teach that perfection is within, you only need seek it out. e.g. buddism, hinduism, taoism, too many others to name.) If God (or perfection) is already within you, then there is no need for a personal saviour for redemption of sins.

the "Gospel of Thomas" was written hundreds of years after Christ by Gnostics. there are many things is this book which are in direct conflict with the four Gospels of the Bible. If one looks and earnestly seeks, we can see that the four true Gospels do not conflict with one another.

as an excellent review above stated better than I, these books were left out of the Holy Bible not because they were "lost", but because they were not divinely inspired, and because they conflict with the divinely inspired books of the Bible.

i also find the notion of "lost knowledge", or "lost books of the Bible" very exciting. however God provided us all we need in His Holy Bible. please do not be decieved and led down the wrong path by these other books! God Bless.

5 out of 5 stars The rest of the story.............2006-11-10

During my first 50 years on this earth, I often wondered if there wasn't more to the Bible than we were receiving. It always seemed odd that a group of men could decide what should and should not be in the Bible. These additional gospels, letters & stories seem to tie up some loose ends, at least for me. More of Jesus's childhood days are written about as well as a detailed history of Adam and Eve and their descendents and how the "family tree" ties all of the Old Testament together. One must, however, keep an open mind and realize that these stories, like the ones in the Bible, have been handed down from word of mouth throughout the centuries until a method of preserving them was perfected. This book is great for a Bible Study group and will open the eyes of those who have never been, up to now, able to hear this collection of great books before. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in the history of mankind.

4 out of 5 stars What Might Have Been: Apocrypha & Pseudepigrapha.......2006-04-12

A decent collection of books which, for whatever reason, were excluded by the early Church (Catholic) councils from what became the Old Testament and New Testament. Initially published in 1926, each one of the "Lost Books" includes a brief introduction giving background and history. Like the editors of this two-part volume, I do not feel it is necessary to share my opinion of the historicity of these works, each reader can decide for him or herself what is shadow and what is reality, and consider the debate which at one time engulfed some of these books.

This volume is divided into two sections. The first is called "Lost Books of the Bible", and includes works which deal with Jesus & company, and may at one time have been considered part of the New Testament Gospel. Includes are the following 26 "lost" books:

Mary, Protevangelion, I. Infancy, II. Infancy, Christ and Abgarus, Nicodemus, The Apostles' Creed, Laodiceans, Paul and Senica, Paul and Thecla, I. Clement, II. Clement, Barnabus, Ephesians, Magnesians, Trallians, Romans, Philadelphians, Smyrnaeans, Polycarp, Philippians, I. Hermas-Visions, II. Herman-Commands, III. Hermas-Similitudes, Letters of Herod and Pilate, The Last Gospel of Peter

Part the Second is titled "The Forgotten Books of Eden", and includes works which are suited to the Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament. They too were excluded by Jewish (and some Christian) councils due to doubts about their age and origins. Includes are the following 20 books:

The First Book of Adam and Eve, The Second Book of Adam and Eve, The Secrets of Enoch, The Psalms of Solomon, The Odes of Solomon, The Letter of Aristeas, The Fourth Book of Maccabees, The Story of Ahikar, The Testament of Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Joseph, Benjamin

This affordable book offers a thought provoking read for those with a general interest "outside of the box". While the translations are somewhat dated, they are not difficult to understand.

Book Description

Our race, Homo sapien sapien seems to have evolved out of nowhere--confounding anthropologists for years, and dubbed Darwin's "Missing Link." Yet the answer has been with us all along . Genesis reveals Adam and Eve as not the first man and woman on the earth--but the first of a kind. The result of exhaustive archaeological, anthropological, and theological research, Genesis of the Grail Kings exposes 'Biblical myth' as manipulated fact, revealing:

* Adam and Eve as the first kind of a particular breed of humans, resulting from genetic cloning of a human-like species with extraterrestials * Adam's emergence heralded a highly advanced Mesopotamian culture--the world's oldest and greatest * All Biblical figures as pharaohic descendants * Joseph, the father of Jesus, as an alchemist, not humble carpenter * When the Israelites made their exodus from Egypt, their spiritual leader was not Moses but Miriam--a queen and high priestess. * Moses was the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, married to both Queen Nefertiti and Miriam * Moses' son was King Tut, the "boy king" * The Ten Commandments derive from an Egyptian Book of the Dead spell.

A startling piece of detective work that combines history, literary criticism, esoterica and archaeology, Genesis of the Grail Kings is the ultimate story of earthly kingship from its Mesopotamian foundation. Drawing on files and secret archives of the ancient Dragon Sovereignty, it reveals the shocking relevance of the Messianic bloodline, explaining in detail the true heritage of the Holy Grail. Including documented records of the hermetic Phoenix, the Philosopher's Stone and the Tables of Testimony, Gardner gives stunning insight into Darwin's 'Missing Link,' active longevity, the transmutation of gold, and the anti-gravitational science of the pharaohs. Genesis of the Grail Kings is essential reading for anyone eager to know the true, untold history of civilization.

3 out of 5 stars Weird Science.......2007-01-14

Gardner's "non-fiction" book is based on the idea that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had children and their descendants became European royalty. Other books have the same idea. Gardner diverges into the world of science fiction or crazy people when he begins writing about aliens and a super human race. I'm fairly open minded, and while anything is possible, I began to doubt Gardner's credibility and motives. Not necessary reading.

5 out of 5 stars At Last The Truth.......2006-06-29

I was blown away by this book. I always felt there was something we were not being told. When I actually got into the book, I was saying, yes, yes, yes, I knew it! Everyone from the age of 5 up needs to read this book. It will enlighten and sometimes frighten, but in the end it will give you knowledge. You will finally be able to think for yourself and start asking questions that the Church does not want us to ask.
After reading this book, I felt for the first time in my life that everything was starting to make sense.

"A startling piece of detective work," says the Amazon book description, "that combines history, literary criticism, esoterica and archaeology, Genesis of the Grail Kings is the ultimate story of earthly kingship from its Mesopotamian foundation."

Well, yeah, sort of.

I have been expanding my mind with crackpot literature for many years and I must say that this is as fine an example of such bilge as I have ever seen. It starts off with a bang, being forwarded by "HRH [no less!] Prince Nicholas de Vere KGC, KCD / Princeps Draconis, Sovereign Grand Master / and Magister Templi of Sarkany Bend / The Imperial and Royal Dragon Court and Order". Well, I'm impressed. Sure I am. Although I can only wonder why HRH has not also taken on the duties of Master of the Buckhounds, Groom of the Back Stairs, Archbishop of Titipu, and Lord Mayor, both acting and elect.

Gardner casts a wide net. He offers aliens from outer space who may or may not have originated on a Kuiper Belt object with an orbital period of 360 (or perhaps 3600) years and who may have interfered with human evolution in some not quite specified way about 6,000 years ago to create--ta-dah!--Adam and Eve. These aliens, of course, were the immortal gods of the earliest Mesopotamians who have ... well ... died out, leaving behind a line of alien/divinely appointed kings to reign over nothing much down to this very day.

I'm not making this up, you know!

Gardener also offers a revised history of the text of the Bible which, among other things, proves pretty conclusively that God did not dictate it to King James after all.

Gardener is also very big on offering the TRUTH. Since the TRUTH is radically inconsistent with the writings of a couple of millenniums of historians and four centuries of post-Renaissance scholarship, Gardener politely corrects them all.

And he throws in other goodies, too. Consider this passage from page 204 of the paperback edition: "Another feature of the white powder [the Philosopher's Stone] is that even its 56 per cent substance (that is the sample excluding the 44 per cent light content) can be made to disappear completely from sight, moving itself into another dimension. At that stage of experimentation (which, incidentally, can be wholly reversed) not only does the invisible substance weigh less than nothing but the pan in which it was sitting also registers less than its zero point starting weight. This particular aspect of the fire stone's has some stunning consequences, as will be discovered when the latter stages of our investigation move into the anti-gravitational sciences of ancient Egypt."

Now, THAT's what I call top of the line woo-woo! (An opinion which, incidentally, cannot be reversed at all.)

As book-length ravings go, this one is actually rather entertaining. It contains a considerable amount of information, both accurate and new.

The accurate information includes details about the development of the currently accepted text of the Bible and the contents of a substantial number of cuneiform inscriptions from Mesopotamia. A hundred and fifty years ago, when this was first published by hard-headed, sharp-eyed scholars, mostly of the German persuasion who were known as the higher critics, it was hot news.

Gardener's new gems of information, the experiments disproving the universal attraction of gravity, the long, long genealogies largely supported by moonstruck etymology, the literal truth of the venerable ages of the Biblical patriarchs and the even longer-lived antediluvian kings of Sumer, the oddly incompetent god-aliens from space, the endless riffs about the nature of myths and historical research, they are all woo-woo.

Just plain, sweet woo-woo masquerading as something useful.

5 out of 5 stars How Books Can Change Lives.......2005-12-16

read "Bloodline of the Holy Grail" and found familiar family names published in the geneology charts. That awakened a deep curiosity that led to a lifelong quest for the truth about my own heritage, and this changed my life forever. My journey led me to Kashmir to do an in-depth study of "Jesus in India." Now, having read "The Magdalene Legacy" I still want to know more. Mr. Gardner is a powerful writer who does extensive research, and his books will alter many more lives well into the future. Few books can have such powerful impact on history and on changing lives. His may be the books that actually change yours too. What greater testament to an author's impact than this?

3 out of 5 stars Some trenchant ideas smothered in Hocus Pocus.......2005-06-06

I'll give this 3 stars. Gardner is a smart man and has a lot of things to say in his writings that I find have a lot of veracity. Suffice to say, it is unfortunate that he compromises his ideas here [I have no idea why perhaps he believes what he says-->] with Human etiology from space aliens, anti-gravitation, & human beings that live longer than Yoda. Serious dissapointment after reading the rational arguments put forth in Blood Line where he successfully demystified so much dogma only, here, to prop up another package of abracadabra. Gardner might solve a lot of puzzles. Too bad he shoots himself in the foot in the process.

    Book Description

A landmark study of Hellenistic Judaism by one of the world's recognized experts--now fully revised and updated.

One of the most creative and consequential collisions in Western culture involved the encounter of Judaism with Hellenism. In his widely acclaimed study of the intellectual and moral relationship between "Athens and Jerusalem," John J. Collins examines the literature of Hellenistic Judaism, treating not only the introductory questions of date, authorship, and provenance, but also the larger question of Jewish identity in the Greco-Roman world. First published in 1984, BETWEEN ATHENS AND JERUSALEM is now fully revised and updated to take into account the best of recent scholarship.
