One special lady will help this cowboy lawman win his father's ranch -- and steal his heart in the bargain....
Kade McKettrick's got five mail-order brides-to-be camped out at the local hotel, all more than eager to provide him with the heir that will win him the Triple M ranch. But Kade, the newly appointed marshal, has his hands full with a troublesome outlaw gang. Why, then, is he so easily distracted by pretty "Sister Mandy" -- who most assuredly is not the nun she claims to be?
On the run from her outlaw stepfather, Mandy Sperrin hides beneath her solemn disguise, and vows to keep her wild, passionate nature from the respectable citizens of Indian Rock. Yet when the handsome marshal makes it clear that he wants her, Mandy gives in to her heated desires....
Despite the secrets that may lure them both perilously close to danger, Kade knows that proposing marriage may be the only way to keep this spirited woman by his side. But are her ties to a shadowed past more threatening -- and closer -- than Kade knows? His strong, sensual embrace may charm Mandy's wild heart -- but will she surrender to a lifetime of his deep and powerful love?

JUST HORRIBLE!.......2007-05-16
I have read more romance novels that I can count and I think this was the VERY worst. I had to force myself to finish it. There is no real love story. The plot is unbelievable and lacks depth. This was the first novel I have read where I didn't like the female lead. YIKES! MAIN problem I had with this book, Kade was thoughtful, caring, sweet, mild mannered, a book worm actually, the peace maker of the family in the first book HIGH COUNRTY BRIDE, In this book he is a marshal, pig headed, rude, thoughtless and childish! BIG ERROR on the Auther's part!
I am going to read the 3rd in this series on the hope that Miller gets her act together!
Terrific!.......2006-08-23
Arizona territory, 1885
SHOTGUN BRIDE is a terrific McKettrick Cowboys sequel to HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE! Be sure to follow up with SECONHAND BRIDE and MCKETTRICK'S CHOICE.
Another wonderful Book.......2006-08-12
I really enjoyed this book as much as the first. The one thing I really did like about this series is that you still read about the whole family. Alot of the series books don't include anyone from the first and I liked that these ones do.
Shotgun bride.......2004-12-17
This story lacks the romance its back cover promises. Yes there are wedding bells but what a disappointment to learn more about the family verses the relationship between the two main characters.
I wanted to use the shotgun!!!!!.......2004-09-02
This bit of fluff was ok but........no passion, no excitement, wham, bam, thank you maam. I like to read stories of the Old West where 'men were men and women were women', but this was a trifle boring. Concepcion, the housekeeper (sp) had more personality than anyone else in the whole book.
I almost didnt finish it and waded thru to the end to see how it all turned out. This is my first western from LLM and I will get her future books from the library.

Like his other volume, Precision Shooting, James Russell's Trap Shooting Secrets is thick with tips, advice, techniques, and practice drills for anyone intent on improving his or her skills in a highly refined, complex, and technically demanding sport. Russell begins with a primer on buying the right shotgun, and builds from there on the essentials of basic shooting and a whole gamut of typical beginner's mistakes before moving on to more advanced targets like the psychology of competitive shooting, developing deeper concentration skills, and strategies for how to write off some of the high costs of trap shooting as a tax deduction. As informative as the volume is, it loses some points on style: pages crammed with text will likely glaze over your shooting eye, and its diagrams and illustrations, useful as they are, are relegated to the book's butt end as if appended as an afterthought. --Jeff Silverman

Nothing Special.......2007-09-21
Nothing special in this or his other book. I have been trapshooting for a couple of years and really didnt find anything in either of the authors books that I haven't already learned just from shooting or other books that are out there. I looked on the ATA website to see the authors averages but could not find a listing for him so it kind of makes me wonder just how much actual experience the author has. To me that is important as there are a lot of opinions from the author in the book that are hopefully backed by experience and not just someones own personal theories. I would recommend spending your money getting lessons/books from an accomplished, well known shooter rather than on this book.
opion-trap shooting secrets.......2007-07-14
This book is by far the best how to book I have ever
read. It has more info on attitude that I have ever come
across. Should be read by everyone that has anything
to do with sports!
Off the hook-(that is good).......2007-04-05
This book was over the top, I wish it had more pictures to show a shooter what it could look like and I wish it had more info about the 27 yard line shoots but I see James has put that in another book. I give this book a 6 and if the scale went to 10 I would give it a 10, a lot of shooters should read this.
Thanks James,
Bubba
Super Shooter.......2007-02-16
The lessons to learn in this book are monumental. If you don't improve your shooting give it up! The tips given are so great and so many it is impossible to acquire them in just a few outings. But, after every shoot a re-reading will out your faults to correct.
Is there good information past chatper one?.......2007-01-05
I'm a new shooter but an avid reader. This book is so poorly written I could not, after several attempts, get past the first few pages. It repeats itself so often it is very, very difficult to read. If you're a new shooter, look elswhere.
Book Description
The role of Chief Operations Officer is clearly important. In fact, it has been argued that the number two position is the toughest job in a company. COOs are typically the key individuals responsible for the delivery of results on a day-to-day, quarter-to-quarter basis. They play a critical leadership role in executing the strategies developed by the top management team. And, in many cases, they are being groomed to be—or are actually being tested as—the firm’s CEO-elect. Despite all this, the COO role has not received much attention.
Riding Shotgun: The Role of the COO provides a new understanding of this little-understood role. The authors—a scholar and a consultant—develop a framework for understanding who the COO is, why a company would want to create this position, and the challenges associated with successful performance in the COO role. Drawing heavily on a number of first-person accounts from CEOs and other top executives in major corporations, the authors have developed a set of strategies or principles to inform individuals who aspire to serve in such a position. The executives who share their experiences in this book are from some of the most established and important companies in today’s economy: AirTran; American Standard Companies; Amgen; Adobe Systems, Inc.; Autodesk, Inc; eBay; Heidrick & Struggles; InBev; Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company; Mattel, Inc; Motorola; PepsiCo; Raytheon Company; Starbucks; and many others.
Excerpts from the Book:
On focusing on success
“The primary goal I set for myself on how I define what success looks like for me is am I working at a company that matters? Am I working with somebody who I think affects positive change? Am I providing a benefit to my family? Am I enjoying myself? Why would I put a limitation on my enjoyment? There is an old view on Wall Street that says, ‘They love you until they don’t.’ I am going to stay happy until I am not.”—Dan Rosensweig, COO Yahoo!
On the relationship between the CEO and COO
“Deep down, you have to trust each other and you have to like each other. If you don’t like each other, and/or don’t trust each other, it may work, kind of, but it will be at a fifty percent level at best.”—Craig Weatherup, Director, Starbucks, and former Chairman, Pepsi
On the challenges of transitioning into the COO role
“If you can’t conceptualize the strategic objectives or help drive that or participate in that, I don’t think you are going to succeed. But, equally, if you can’t translate that into an executable plan, you are not going to succeed either.”—Shantanu Narayen, COO, Adobe Systems
Additional Quotes:
“Miles & Bennett tackle an important and drastically under-researched area: the role, personalities, fit and success factors of COOs. We've seen several COOs who have been total winners, but it's striking how different the models of success can be depending on role, personal competencies, business situation/cycle/type, team strengths, and CEO strengths. The authors have done a very nice job of tying all of this together.”—Jim Williams, Partner, Texas Pacific Group
“The lessons reported in this book will be very useful to Boards, Heads of Human Resources and CEOs as they consider succession planning and organizational design.”—Dale Morrison, President & Chief Executive Officer, McCain Foods Limited
“The job of COO is becoming more important as companies and their boards look internally for succession alternatives. One question they face: Will the organization continue to run as the number 2 becomes the number 1? Riding Shotgun will help answer this and many more questions about the COO role in today's corporate structure.”—John Berisford, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, The Pepsi Bottling Group
“The COO plays a critical leadership role in most businesses, but its particularly true in the natural resourcess industry. Getting the right person on board and making sure that they are set up for success is critical. The information presented in this book is long overdue and will certainly help CEOs and Boards successfully design and implement the COO position.”—Charles (Chip) Goodyear, Chief Executive Officer, BHP Billiton
“With the recent emphasis on enterprise performance and CEO succession planning, this book is a must-read for board members and executives who want to drive leadership capability and ensure sustained performance in their companies.”—Carlos Cardoso, Chief Executive, Kennametal Inc.
“Under a weak CEO, the job is nothing short of agony. Under a great CEO, the COO's job is the best in the world-grounded in execution and performance metrics.”—Paula Rosput Reynolds, President and Chief Executive Officer, Safeco Corp.
“The takeaways in this book are critical to anyone whose work touches that of the COO—CEOs, boards, top managers—COOs themselves. That said, a great deal of the lessons herein will help any one more effectively manage their relationship with their boss or their number two—wherever they sit in an organization.”—Kevin Cox, Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Quality, American Express Financial Services, Inc.
“What makes for a successful relationship between the CEO and chief operating officer? Why do there seem to be so many examples where it just doesn't work as intended? Miles and Bennett offer well thought through perspectives on the factors which influence the success or failure of the chief operating officer role in today's corporation, supported by candid interviews with a number of well-known leaders. The result is a highly readable book which will help those considering creating such a role to go into it with their eyes wide open.”—Lucien Alziari, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Avon Products, Inc.

A Report from People Who Have Been There........2006-11-08
In today's corporate world the pulls on the CEO of a company are many. He must work with the board, he is the first person that the press or an investment analyst will call, and above all else he needs to set the overall direction of the company to see that it is moving towards the future in the direction that he has set. Doing all these tasks is a full time job. It is therefore the job of the COO to take the general direction and make company actually function. Someone has got to see that the products get designed, manufactured, sold and shipped. That someone who really runs the operation of the company is the COO.
If they are going to pull it off, the CEO and the COO have to work together almost as though they are married. And just as in a real marriage, if the two are pulling in different directions, the marriage will fall apart.
This book is a series of reports on conversations held between the authors and a long list of COO's. The selection of COO's represent a wide variety of industries, including: soft drinks, biology/pharmaseuticals, computers, finance, airline and more. Their comments provide an understanding of the job that can only be provided by one who has 'been there, done that.'
Informative and Useful.......2006-08-01
This is a very useful book - lots of lessons that can be applied right away and can improve your relationship with your number one (or number two!). The interviews are interesting and include a roster of today's business leaders. The writing is accessible - not academic - very practical.
Fascinating and Crucial .......2006-07-28
I loved this book. Not only was it compelling and captivating, but the subject matter is cutting edge. The authors have done a fantastic job outlining their theses and using an impressive set of interviews to illustrate their points.
I highly recommend this book.
Its long overdue.......2006-07-28
Finally an easy to read business book that adds value and addresses one if not the most critical roles in an organization today. The long overdue assessment of the key attributes to make a COO successful and the importance of the role in today's business world.
Excellent and relevant interviews of today's leaders and their number 2's.
Book Description
The Farnam Method of Defensive Shotgun and Rifle Shooting is filled with vital, gritty - yet seldom discussed - facts as only Farnam can present them. This is no comic-book kiddy text or coffee-table fluff. If you want to be a competent and knowledgeable defensive shotgun or rifle owner, this book belongs on your bookshelf! The Farnam Method of Defensive Shotgun and Rifle Shooting is the first book of its kind which explains the details of the defensive use of the shotgun and rifle and shows you exactly how each critical goal is achieved.
This is John S. Farnam's third book on the subject of defensive shooting and was written for both civilians and law enforcement officers who rely on shotguns and/or rifles for defense. Mr. Farnam is an internationally recognized firearms instructor who teaches the latest defensive techniques to police departments, federal and state agencies and foreign governments.
Customer Reviews:
So far, it's exceptional.......2007-06-12
I'm about half way through the book and just the topic on administrative procedures and conditions of readiness are excellent. I've never seen these in any other books. I can't wait to get to the rifle section which has information on the AR. This book is a must have!
The Farnam Method of Defensive Shotgun and Rifle Shooting.......2006-08-28
Yes I learned the differance between a carbine and a rifle and much more. Learn as much as you can from the masters of shooting. Nobody knows it all.
One of the best of the breed.......2003-09-04
Farnam's texts on defensive rifle and shotgun shooting are among the best available resources on the subject. The subject matter is covered in comprehensive fashion, with a fine attention to detail of the truly important aspects of defensive long gun handling and operation. While no substitute for taking one of Farnam's classes, this book can provide a sound foundation for the beginner and give even those with advanced defensive training several things to think about.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the book is slightly (but only slightly) dated in some regards and could use a revised edition, or an updated introduction or appendix to reflect on developments in firearms, ammunition, accessories, etc. since the original writing. Still, the book as-is is well worth the purchase price -- and then some.
Excellent overall.......1999-10-09
If you are looking for a great intro to tactical rifle and shotgun shooting then this book is for you. With the exception of some overly complicated sling carry styles and reloading procedures I believe this is the best shotgun material out there.
A fine book on defensive rifle and shotgun fundamentals........1999-08-24
This book is a very good exploration of the basics of chosing and using rifles and shotguns for defense. The coverage of suggested equipment is obviously from the perspective of one who knows first hand what works and what does not in real world defensive scenarios.
Farnam keeps the material simple enough for the novice, yet insightful enough for even those well read in "tactical" writings.
This book is not so much a "how to" of defensive shooting tactics, but more of a discussion of the equipment, accessories, ammunition and handling associated with defensive long arms.
I recommend this book to anyone who keeps -- or is considering obtaining -- a rifle or shotgun for personal protection or home defense.

book review.......2000-12-29
Fantastic book overall!! Topics covered include side by side to autoloaders to various kinds of ammo for all types of birds. Great read from an honest author!
Barsness is currently the best.......2000-03-08
Barsness has written the best current overview of shotguns for hunting: not sporting clays, trap, etc. He is not aligned nor does he show a marked prejudice for a particular type of shotgun like the side by side which is so prevalent today. He explains the advantages and downsides of various guns and does a particularly good job on the very important, if not vital, subject of stock design and fit. Although I think you can find much of this information elsewhere, Barsness brings it together in a very concise format and cuts through the "poppycock." Plus, the photos are great!

He Rocks, the book will change you.......2007-02-13
It was just what I ordered, came just as it said it would, and was so well written, he is my new Hero.
Not what I expected, But not Disappointing.......2006-04-25
Though the pagecount may seem misleading considering some pages only contain a line or two of text, the book is a 7 x 6 installation piece as well as a good read. The text seems to act as a character throughout the book due to it's continuously interesting style and placement as well as it's ability to mimic the emotion invoked in the poem. A must have for anyone who enjoys new art and isn't afraid of deep thoughts.
amazing.......2005-10-11
This is one of my favorite books I own. Saul Williams is a brillant writer.
astonishing display of emotions.......2004-12-02
I had the pleasure of meeting saul williams in person on the mars volta tour... truly a unique and inspiring individual... promoting a hopeful, empowered and enlightened soul power
it's the 21st century honey.......2004-11-24
I'm really getting annoyed with the people who keep posting that this book is not poetry. YOU ARE OUT OF DATE
someone wrote a review of Samuel Taylor Coleridge thinking that all poetry must sound like 18th/19th century poetry or it is simply not poetry.
I have to say, that the word POET is derived from the meaning of prophet/maker...
the same person who had to brag about their knowledge of classical poetry on a review for this book (probably on a saturday night because s/he had nothing else to do) doesn't understand the conceptualization of and in this book pertaining to America as a whole. this poem makes reality into an absuridty.
Saul Williams has peaked at many epiphanies along his journey of being touched by a "kiss."
just read it

Great "how to" for rotary engraving gunstocks.......2006-11-06
This book explains the specific use of ultra high speed pneumatic rotary engraving tools in the art of gunstock decorative carving.
It contains a couple of hundred color photographs showing in great detail the layout and steps to create fishscale and basket weave checkering, oak and acanthus leaf carving, and a wildlife scene. The author does a great job of answering all questions you might have as he takes you through the complete process step-by-step and tool-by-tool.
Also included are full page photocopiable patterns for all of the previously listed items and more. And to top it all off, for the reader's inspiration the author included 23 color photos of other finished carving.
If you want to do decorative wood carving with an ultra high speed engraver, this book is a must have.
Janney Engraaving Guide.......2006-03-24
I ordered two books on this subject at the same time. This book was clear and to the point--and very helpful. The other "Custom Gunstock Carving" was a big disappointment.
The Janney book was better illustrated, better written, and had better sequences of what to do next. Gunstock Carving had a list of suppliers which was extremely helpful especially for us beginners.
Professional results on the first attempt.......2002-12-05
The results achieved on my first attempt were very satisfying. I was surprised on receiving the book that most of the work is done thru a pattern with rotary tools. The text is plain and complete, and the illustrations better than average. I was particularily happy with my results (after a bit of practice) with the fish scale checkering. A real bargain.
Book Description
Widely regarded as the definitive work on the design and fitting of gun stocks, the first edition covered the subject practically and theoretically, in terms of shooting vision and eye dominance, stocks for game and clay shooting, and pattern plates and the try-gun. Historical material explores how the modern gun stock evolved from the poles and planks of the first handheld firearms to the highly sophisticated designs of the modern era. The second edition includes fitting rifles, recoil, and making and finishing a gun stock.
