Hat and boot in hand, a boy and a bear set off on a delicious and raucous romp through Berryland. They frolic in strawberry fields forever, rumble and ramble in blackberry brambles, and topple their canoeberry with blueberries. Silly rhymes and a musical beat practically beg to be read aloud, preferably accompanied by dancing. New readers will giggle as they follow the fruit-frenzied pals on their berry adventures. Jamberry builds quickly in intensity and complexity, starting with "One berry, Two berry, Pick me a blueberry," and working up to "Raspberry, Jazzberry, Razzmatazzberry, Berryband, Merryband, Jamming in Berryland." Children will love discovering the subtle touches in Bruce Degen's illustrations: a frog climbing out of a hat, crackers and butter instead of lily pads, and a sign by the raspberry skating rink imploring skaters not to pick the jelly rolls planted nearby. Every character seems giddy with well-fed joy in this veritable jamboree of flavorful fun. Jamberry is a book best enjoyed on a gloomy day with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. Cute, but not popular.......2007-09-14
This book is cute and I like the illustrations, but my 2-year old son is not impressed with it. He loves story time and will sit and listen to book after book, but always drops interest in this one after page 2. There isn't an interesting story--just lots of rhyming. It's one of those books I want to like, but can't yet. We're expecting #2, perhaps this child will feel differently.
Excellent rhyming book.......2007-09-11
I love Jamberry! I found this book while on vacation and my 10 month old daughter loved it. It has an infectious rhyming story that is original and inventive. We had to own our own copy. Now, when my daughter is fussy, I recite a few pages from the book and she calms down. It really is a fun and adorable book.
This is the best!!!.......2007-09-10

Customer Reviews:
Excellent book for Data Mining.......2007-06-01
As a novice to data mining, I was searching for a book that would explain the concepts, NOT mathematical formulas. This text provides the reader with a clear and comprehensive explanation of each concept, provided examples, and the readability is excellent. Who should read the book? Anyone in business - marketers to CEOs; and college students at all levels who are trying to understand data mining concepts. The book is not for mathematicians who are searching for algorithms. I would rate this book 5-stars.
Very Interesting book.......2007-05-13
I'm very interesting in Data Mining and i think that this book is a good introduction to this field. Thanks Amazon
A must-have book for your technical library.......2006-12-28
Anyone interested in automating and improving decisions should have this book. It is one of the classic works on data mining and well worth the read.
I really liked the book both because it is well written and because, although it drilled into a fair amount of detail about some of the techniques, it started each new section off at a high level. This allows someone without a statistical background, such as me, to read as far as I can in each section and then skip ahead to the next technique. This is a nice change from books that simply get more and more detailed as page follows page, preventing you from gaining an overview of the subject.
The book introduces data mining and a methodology for applying it, talks about some of the applications in "Marketing, Sales, and Customer Relationship Management" (as the subtitle puts it), walks through some statistical techniques and then spends the bulk of the book on various data mining techniques. It wraps up with a nice summary of how data mining plays with other technologies and with some practical advice on getting started.
One of the best summaries of where data mining fits is given early in the book where an enterprise is encouraged to:
- Notice what its customers are doing
- Remember what it and its customers have done over time
- Learn from what it has remembered
- Act on what if has learned to make customers more profitable
The authors point out that Data Mining is focused on the "Learn" stage or, as they put it data mining suggests but businesses decide.
The methodology section, and the subsequent notes that relate to applying these techniques in real life, talked about the feedback loops between steps in data mining - there is not a linear "waterfall" sequence of steps but constant iteration and learning. They also emphasized the importance of finding the right business problem at the beginning - start as someone once said, with the end in mind. This was reiterated when they quote Voltaire who said "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien" ("The best is the enemy of good"). In other words, don't get hung up on trying to find the perfect algorithm, perfect answer. Instead build something that is good, that works, and learn and improve over time.
The authors made a big point out of the value of data mining for "mass intimacy", where you want to treat customers differently and there is a business reason to do so but where customers are too numerous to be assigned to staff. One of the issues they pointed out was that staff must be trained in customer interaction skills while also using all the data you have. The value of data mining in building a customer-centric organization cannot be overestimated.
Excellent introduction.......2005-09-08
This well-written book is an excellent introduction to the data mining and predictive analytics space. The reader should be comfortable with data and data analysis. The reader, however, does not need any pre-existing knowledge specific to data mining and predictive analytics. Much of the book, including the middle chapters which describe specific analytic techniques, has general applicability to business problems beyond CRM.
I am an actuary working in the insurance industry and am ordering my second copy of the book.
Practical examples not convincing, lack of benchmarking.......2005-06-17
While the book is easy to read and not too technical, the applications investigated by the authors are too simplistic and not really convincing as to why we should use advanced techniques. It would have been nice to add an additional, more detailed chapter comparing the various implementations of data mining techniques by software companies (SAS Entreprise Miner, Clementine, Insightfull Miner, etc.)
Book Description
Extracting content from text continues to be an important research problem for information processing and management. Approaches to capture the semantics of text-based document collections may be based on Bayesian models, probability theory, vector space models, statistical models, or even graph theory.
As the volume of digitized textual media continues to grow, so does the need for designing robust, scalable indexing and search strategies (software) to meet a variety of user needs. Knowledge extraction or creation from text requires systematic yet reliable processing that can be codified and adapted for changing needs and environments.
This book will draw upon experts in both academia and industry to recommend practical approaches to the purification, indexing, and mining of textual information. It will address document identification, clustering and categorizing documents, cleaning text, and visualizing semantic models of text.
Customer Reviews:
subjective extraction of clusters.......2006-10-19
The book is relatively brief, given the technical nature of its chapters, each written by different authors. Many clustering methods are described. Most can be seen to have some degree of subjectivity, in defining what ends up in a given cluster. Or whether a cluster even exists or not.
The analysis of Web documents forms a major portion of the book. This data set is vast, continually changing and expanding. Plus, it is noisy. Unlike many clean data sets that might be extracted from a corpus of books, for example. Attention should be paid to methods of automatically extracting information from the Web.
The book does not go much into the higher level problems of defining ontologies. Which are very hard tasks. The closest it seems to get is along the lines of finding similar words in documents. Which is still very useful.

Sunday School Book.......2002-09-30
Have you ever heard of a SWOT analysis? If you have, then this book is not for you. This book is very good for an entry level book. The authors have very little successful experience in business plan writing and the tasks they include are elementary. You would be much better off reading and intro to marketing textbook instead. The textbook would cover fundamentals of marketing. I respect the authors background, but most people would be better off with a different book.
Practical and it worked!.......2000-12-08
This is a great way to get your arms around doing the some times challenging task of writing a marketing plan. It takes you through the process step-by-step and it is filled with great resources, especially the current web sites it suggests. A great way to get that plan accomplished with solid coaching throughout. These guys know what they are doing!

"Giddyup, giddyup as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
The Gingerbread Cowboy can run from the rancher, he can dash past the javelinas, and he can giddyup right by the cattle grazing on the mesa. But what happens when he meets a coyote sleeping in the sun?
Janet Squires and Holly Berry retell this classic tale with a Wild Western flair, filled with rodeo-romping fun.
Customer Reviews:
Another great gingerbread book!.......2007-03-21
As a Kindergarten teacher, I am always looking for a new twist on an old story. One of the best ways to help children to start crafting their own stories is to have them use a character they already know and change the setting or other characters in the story to make it their own. This book is a great example of doing this. My class enjoyed the book. When I lent the book to another teacher, her children loved it so they were running around the yard calling Giddy up! as they chased each other. She told me that they didn't have that reaction to the original story!
The Gingerbread Cowboy.......2007-03-09
Great twist on a classic tale. My class of first graders LOVED it!
Imaginative retake on an old story! Fabulous illustrations!.......2006-12-03
This is a great book for the youngest readers! Your little ones will delight in the Gingerbread Cowboy's chase across the barren lands of the Old West as he runs to save his life. Many animals are after him but he manages to outwit them all, even the clever old coyote, with the help of the rancher's wife.
Kids will laugh when they hear the Gingerbread Cowboy chant, " ... You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man." They will certainly enjoy the colorful illustrations of the animals depicted against the contrasting, muted background of the Old West desert and mountains.
Hazel Rochman, BOOKLIST reviewer, describes this story best (see Editorial Reviews above): " ... universal trickster tale with a cowboy slant."
SIDENOTE: You may have noticed that Amazon has made some changes to its website. If it looks the same to you right now, look out for a new format that will be rolling out gradually in the weeks to come. If you can see the changes, especially the review format, I'd like to know what you think. Please leave me a comment with your opinion.
"Love the new look" or "Hate the new look" comments are perfectly acceptable.

Baked Treat Runs Wild in the West.......2006-11-03
The classic tale of the gingerbread man searching for freedom with the wrong people goes out west. The artwork is done in a style that accentuates the western theme. Well worth adding to any early reader's library.

In the late 20th century, unfortunately, berries are seen primarily in the supermarket at certain times of year, and while this is welcome, it used to be that everyone had a few berry bushes in the backyard: some currants, some gooseberries and a few rhubarb plants. Stella Otto explains how to bring this tradition back and raise lush crops of berries and fruit with pointers on soil nutrition, plant nutrients and mulching that will make your home-grown berries the envy of folks who only see them in the supermarket. This mouth-watering book will get you going.
Book Description
Here's hands-on advice from a professional horticulturist and experienced fruit grower to help gardeners create an edible landscape. The Backyard Berry Book provided all the information that backyard gardeners need to grow strawberries, rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, lingonberries, currants, gooseberries, grapes, and kiwi fruit. Includes details on soil nutrition and testing; disease, pest, weed, and bird control; and trellis design. A trouble-shooting section and Seasonal Activity Calendar will help ensure success.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2007-05-14
I recommend it to anyone interested in growing fruit at home. The information about the different varieties of each type of fruit was very useful.
The Backyard Berry Book: A Hands-on Guide to Growing Berries, Brambles, and Vine Fruit in the Home Garden.......2006-08-21
Very helpful. We have learned new techniques to try for our berry growing next season. Good source for information for the beginner and not so new gardener both.
Good, but not great.......2006-06-15
This book offers rather generic information on growing a variety of fruits, most of which will be old lore to experienced gardeners. While it would be difficult to be comprehensive with regard to varieties of given fruits, more attention could have been given to them. Also, more specific information on individual fruits and varieties would have been welcome, particularly with regard to site preparation and pruning. The illustrations are poorly drawn and thus not particularly useful.
Berry Growing Basics for Beginners.......2006-01-22
Stella Otto uses plain language and ample illustrations to cover the basics of growing small fruit. Her book contains separate chapters for strawberries, blueberries, brambles, grapes, kiwis, gooseberries, currants, lingonberries and even rhubarb in the backyard garden. The coverage of varieties of each fruit and varietal differences is good, which is why each fruit requires a chapter.
First the fundamentals of growing small fruit are surveyed, including site selection, stock selection, methods of propagation, berry botany, soil nutrition, pH, irrigation, and other cultural practices. Then pest control is discussed including organic versus non-organic controls and Integrated Pest Management techniques that reduce the need for chemical controls. Lastly there are charts, resource lists, and trouble-shooting guides provided in the reference section of this book.
Well worth consulting before planning your berry patch!
I liked it.......2005-08-03
OK, I gave it a 4, cause I'm not done with it yet, and I'm just not too sure. I do like the information, just more of some that I don't need, and would like even more of some I do need, but it seems like a good place to start. A good companion book for her to write would be what to do with all the berries, maybe some recipes, or preserving tips.

As an animal-talent fairy, there’s nothing Beck likes better than speaking Bird, or Chipmunk. So when a conflict breaks out between the hummingbirds and the chipmunks, she steps forward to act as a mediator, but nothing she says seems to help. Will Beck be able to bring peace to the animals?

Beck and the Great Berry Battle review by StoryMaker.......2007-06-01
Never Land is a magical island very far away from this planet. You probably have heard of it before. You probably have seen movies about it or read books about it or both. As you should know, in Never Land you never grow old. And you probably have heard something about fairies living there, or something of the sort. Well, now you can learn more about the mystical Never Fairies. Learn their talents, abilities and personalities in the Disney Fairies chapter book series!
So far this is the first and only Disney Fairies chapter book I've read. However, I plan on reading as many as I can! Usually books don't hold my attention span very long and after the first few chapters, I stop and forget it. However, this was very captivating! I read it in a single sitting! Lots of things happen in the plot. Speaking of plot, I think I'll summarize it.
Beck is an animal-talent fairy. She understands the twitters, chatters, squeaks, and wimpers of animals and recognizes them as a language. She is one of the best animal-talent fairies there is, in fact. One of her friends is a hummingbird named Twitter. Twitter has a frantic personality and often calls for Beck, saying it's an "emergency". Almost always it turns out to be nothing alarming. However, not this time. A nest disappears - and the birds suspect the chipmunks nabbed it. Soon, every time a chipmunk walks by a blackberry bush, hummingbirds are flinging juicy berries everywhere and splatting everyone (not just chipmunks!) with dark purple juice. Finally the chipmunks decide to fight back. A huge war broke out! Can Beck help them to be at peace once again?
Pretty exciting, huh? Well that's not even the half of it. Lots of other things happen - you'll just have to read it yourself! The illustrations are also quite splendid. The animal pictures are touching and the expressions are great! This book is really good and even if it's not selling for cheap, it's worth the price! Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
Not a Beck Story Yet.......2006-10-22
I like animal stories. When I found out Beck was an "Animal Talent" fairy I wanted to skip straight to this book. I controlled myself instead and read the first 3 in the series. They were GREAT!
Then I read "Beck and the Great Berry Battle". I kept having to check the title to make sure I was reading the right book. This book should have been called "Beck is Around When Stuff Happens."
Beck is the weakest character so far. The artwork for this book is excellent, but it is wasted on a ho-hum story where everyone gets to be a hero or solve the puzzle or do cool stuff except Beck. Oh and by the way, "Animal Talent" is a secret Disney code for "Good With Children".
Go ahead and read the story, don't let me stop you. But I'm still hoping someone will write a story about Beck who actually WANTED to write a story about Beck.
Fairies! back on track with this book........2006-01-10
I gave Fairy Dust 5 stars. SO far the book I have read in this series deserve at least 6 then. I LOVED the magic started in Fairy dust, but they have stepped it up and made a wonderful world of fairies most people will love. I found this book to have more personality and character then Fairy dust. They elaborate more on the characters, the talents and everything. The fairy world just got more magical!!

Book Description
Toilet training is a natural step in a child's development. With this book and a little bit of understanding and patience, toilet training will be easy and rewarding for both parent and child. Children can be frightened by the sight and sound of a flushing toilet. This book (featuring a toilet flushing sound chip) reassures children that the toilet is not something to fear but part of the growing up process. Includes Potty Time Success Chart.

Good Starter Book.......2007-06-05
As you start to introduce your son to potty training this is a good book. It is a board book with colorful pictures that show a young boy using the potty. It has simple wording that is easy to follow. However, I, too, found that after a few pushes of the flush button it stopped working.
The book is basic though. So if your son has already started sitting on the potty it may not be as relevant. It doesn't talk about having accidents, that you need to sit and wait sometimes for the potty to come out, or how to know when you need to go. But it does talk about the process of peeing or pooing, wiping, flushing, and washing your hands.
It has a cute write on/wipe off success chart in the back of the book. I didn't find that useful, but some parents might.
Excellent Potty Book - Kids love the sounds.......2007-05-09
I simply love this potty book. I have two children of potty training age...a boy and a girl and I bought both versions of it. My kids love the book and really like the flushing sound. Now when we have "Potty Time" the kids even say "flush, flush, flush" just like the book.
O.K. I suppose.......2007-01-09
My son just turned 2 and we're not quite ready to potty train but wanted to start giving him the idea. He likes this book and we read it quite a bit. Despite talking about the concepts of using the potty in addition to the book he's still showing no interest. It's still early so I can't blame the book. I give it 4 stars because he does choose this to read sometimes.
It's cute... but a bit loud........2006-07-05
Like other reviewers, obviously it's potty training time for my son. I bought this book to help keep him sitting on the toilet a little longer... and it has worked for that. He likes to push the "toilet flushing" button... of course. The sound it makes is of a toilet flushing, and then a child giggling. Personally, I wish it stopped at just the flushing sound... the giggling child makes the sound seem to last forever, and yes, I found it to be a tad too loud as well... but maybe that's just my potty-training fatigue setting in. :-)
Also, be aware that this book teaching that "I stand up to pee, and I sit down to poop"... if you're starting with sitting down for both... might be a bit confusing (or invite some experimentation you'd rather not yet have to deal with... have plenty of Clorox wipes handy).
Good book, but...........2005-11-27
The book in itself was great, but the toilet button ended up going out only after a couple flushes. My son loved it till it quit flushing and now he won't even look at it. I still believe it is a good book for toilet training.
