this book was well organized in its presentation of problems for each type of plant covered. set in A-Z format of common plant names (though Latin names are used as well), the editors (Barbara Ellis, and Fern Bradley)give several ways to combat garden issues from an organic methodology. most of the ways of working with organics that they outline are not high cost, but are high maintainence as is all organic gardening, if done right.
the book also covers some common insects a gardener would see and if they are beneficial or not and how to work with the beneficials (what to plant to attract, etc) and to control the "bad bugs". they also outline some diseases and how to fight those with organic methods. then they touch on other ways to fight garden pests (cultural, physical, and biological contols). they also talk about different organic dusts and sprays and how to use them effectively.

Despite Centers for Disease Control estimates that only 20,000 new Lyme disease infections occur each year, the true figure, as Harvard medical school researchers have found, nearly approaches 200,000. Best book on Lyme. You must read this!.......2007-07-04
Lyme is a major epidemic right now, and most doctors are thoroughly ignorant on the matter and have no idea how to properly treat it, often whimsically giving everyone the same three weeks of antibiotics which do nothing.
Buhner lays out a thoroughly researched book with all the information you need to completely and intelligently understand the disease and take measures to cure yourself of it. It CAN be cured!
I'm just about to start the herbal protocol and will post another review in a few months.
I'd also like to recommend to anyone with Lyme that they look into the "Ultimate Zapper."
Remember, every day in relatively good health should be spent singing from the rooftops. You cannot trust your GP on the matter of Lyme disease, or anything else for that matter. Educate yourself and be your own expert.

I like this book first because it is very credible and because of the large amount of experience of the doctor who wrote it. Also, I like the ideal circumstances and development of his experience. I have been trying the recommendations for a while. I think I am better for it. Also, there is much hope for reading this book.

I would not recommend this book at all. The diet is terrible and if I followed it, it would have caused my husband great pain! James Scala has no idea, as clearly he doesn't suffer from IBS. I would not recommend this at all, it is the worst book I have ever bought! I want my money back and I will be writing to him tell him this aswell.

Do you have questions? This book has the answers. If you are a serious gardener or a weekend putterer this book is for you. 'Pests of Landscape Trees and Shrubs' focuses on IPM as a safer more environmentally responsible method of pest and disease combat. It is a wonderful diagnostic tool with hundredes of color photos and tables to ID your plant problems. It can also be used as a teaching text with full explanation of how and why these methods work from highly trusted University of California sources. This book is an amazing value for it's size and content. It has replaced no fewer than five pest/disease books in my library at a cost that was less than half of some of the others that claimed to know it all. I don't know how I gardened so long without it.

This publication is a must have for anyone dealing with pest of native conifers of California! It is the perfect size to carry in the field while looking at the health of your trees as it fits into your vest or pocket. The photos are excellent, and the guide is one that most anyone can use to determine just what is wrong with your conifers.
With the current catastrophic pest outbreaks in Southern California this is a book that everyone living in the forested areas should purchase, read, and follow up with the other references. It lists which agencies are involved and how to contact them.
