Having just finished the last page of this book, I'm still feeling rather trembly(if that's a word!) and shaken at the picture of complete horror and terrible fear painted so brilliantly by Philippa Gregory. Poor, Katherine Howard was the 5th wife of the murderous Henry V111, a pretty but vapid child of fifteen and as silly and stupid a 15 year old as one could imagine. The poor ditz of a creature was used by her family, the aristocratic and ruthless Howards, who also produced Queen Anne Boleyn, and manipulated into captivating the King who had deteriorated into a madman with a gross, infected and ulcerated body and who had become a complete megalomaniac. The other part of the story which was more interesting to me, was the story of Anne of Cleves who was Henry's 4th wife but who, through dint of cleverness and good luck, escaped the headman's axe by agreeing to the annulment of her marriage. Not much has been written about Anne but she must go down in history as one of the luckiest women in the world. I found this book to be an excellent read and an absolute page turner to the end.
Captivated by the Tudors.......2007-09-19
Having been fascinated by "The Other Boleyn Girl", I was very much looking forward to "The Boleyn Inheritance" and was not disappointed. A sort of sequel, the latter carries forward a character from the first book, Jane Boleyn, and also includes Henry's fourth and fifth wives, Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard. The story moves forward through alternating accounts of events by the three women. In my opinion, the author does a good job of capturing each one's spirit and voice. In addition, the story is fairly accurate historically, so provided a starting point for additional research on Henry and his wives.

Definitely preferred The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover. I'm reading Earthly Joys. I didn't think the two Boleyn books tied together that well. But the three narrators were interesting and her take on Anne of Cleves was fascinating. I loved the fleshing out of these forgotten and yet so important historical figures. But Jane Boleyn was tough to believe and understand.

You can never go wrong reading a Philippa Gregory novel...She is a terrific writer and her books just take me away,rightinto the story that she is telling...I completely lose myself in her books..In fact I have read most of them..They just so exciting.leaving you wondering what in the world will happen next to each character..and you also learn a lot about history,because she researches everything she writes,so you come away with a lovely story and a history lesson..I just love them...Try it if you want a real adventure and some knowledge to boot...

In order to call themselves good Christians, many people have drawn overly flexible boundaries (unwilling to say no, always accommodating others' needs) or overly rigid boundaries (to the point of being righteous and judgmental). Psychologists and inspirational speakers Cloud and Townsend show readers how to set reasonable boundaries in order to follow the true path of Christianity. Few things cause as much grief and heartache in relationships as the failure to establish healthy interpersonal "rules of conduct." This book is perhaps the best and most important read on that subject. James Dobson says that most breakups are due to disrespect. This book is about establishing respect, both for oneself and within relationships. A lot of psychological dysfunction and pain is caused by others trampling on a person's life, self-respect, and dignity. This book will show you how to lovingly establish healthy conduct in all of your relationships. It will save many friendships and even marriages if read, used, and thoughtfully applied to a person's life.
Beware iPod Users.......2007-09-28
The content of this set of 10 CDs is wonderful!! The problem is that each disk has between 45 and 70 tracks which are titled: Track 1, Track 2, etc. So... when you download them to your iPod, they get sorted alphabetically and you get Track 1 (from disk 1), Track 1 (from disk 2), etc. You have to either download one CD at a time, or rename all the tracks. It was very time consuming and disappointing not to have all I wanted in an organized way to download to my iPod. Just be aware when you buy these CDs.

Mistakenly I ordered this book thinking it was the "real" book that had been recommended for us in class, several people have recommened it to me and I have recommended it to people every day...It's really been neat to share with others who are not going to read the "real" version. The people that have recommended it to me have laughed when they saw how small it is and even a child asked me to read this to her thinking it was a child's book....I really must get the original version. The small condensed version was great, fantastic, awesome for anyone to read. Please read if you are married, not married, in ANY kind of relationship with ANYONE...

This is an amazing historical fiction about Mary, the sister of Anne Boleyn. The historical details make you feel as if you are really there. It seems to be very historically accurate as well. I mostly enjoyed reading it... except that after a while the politically charged, cruel, and sometimes evil feel of the life at Henry the VIII's court can be smothering. Towards the end I just wanted to be done with it.

Historical fiction with a new twist.......2007-10-01
This book kept me riveted even though it is a long book; I didn't want to stop reading it. It certainly made the reign of King Henry VIII interesting! It also points out the sad fate of women in those days. But the main character, Mary Bolyn overcomes her fate by following her heart. This has been my favorite book this year, full of love, sex and ambition., and it is based on a true story!

I started reading this book and couldnt put it down. I am hooked on Phillipa Gregory novels now! I agree with those that say she really brings the historical figures to life in a very plausible way. I bought the Boleyn Inheritance and another of her older novels because I was so happy with this book! I am usually a true crime and history reader but I enjoyed this fiction and recommend it to all.

i don't use this book to the full potential and i get blessed from reading the little sections i index for. i usually only look up say some sort of cancer, or back pain, or something a friend has, and it tells you how it affects you, what spritual roots it is probably feed by. like bitterness will be the root for these types of diseases. then you can start opening those wounds to Jesus to heal. so get it and root out your real pains (bitterness, fear,...) so your bodies pains can get healed. ADD, MS/CS, cancer, diabetes,...

I cannot believe that anyone would give a bad review of this book. I came across this book 3 years ago and after reading less than half the book, I was healed of migranes that had plagued me and put me to bed 7-10 days a month.
Yes, it gets you to examine yourself...........but if you do a self examination with a sincere heart you will see where you are separated from Him, yourself or others. Through this examination and the desire to become what God created you to be and reading the Word, more and more freedom begins to take place in your life.
I have been healed of Guillian Barre, Fibroid Malalgia, Migranes, Genital Herpes, Chronic Pain from a broken back, IBS and other diseases.

A More Excellent Way.......2007-09-14
A more excellent way by Henry Wright is a fantastic book for everyone to read. It provides the root causes of most diseases and is quite accurate. His material is being used all over the world. I especially like how each statement is backed by scripture from the Holy Bible. I have attended his conferences and they are a real eye opener. I have also talked with one of the people who had 17 diseases which were all cured by using the protocol outlined in Henry's book. Would hightly recommend this excellent material.

With an "incurable" disease breathing down my neck, this book points the way to life through both the promises of God and true repentance as well. Just what my family needed.......2007-06-10
I've felt for years that dinner conversations among my wife, my son, and me have lacked any kind of formality. It seems that synopses of the day's events, proposals for upcoming family activities, and decision making about such matters as "in what order should we wash the dishes...silverware first, or glassware first?" were being made in a way that could, at best, be described as wildly haphazard.
And so it was that my wife proposed (and my son seconded) that we impose a bit of rigor into the proceedings of the evening meal. This seemed, at first, to be the ideal solution to the chaotic approach to eating to which we had become sadly accustomed. But a new problem immediately arose: Who will decide on a set of guidelines by which we can all abide? We wanted rules, but we had no set of "metarules" to guide us in how to develop, vote on, and approve the dinner rules.
Needless to say, whenever our family is stuck in this kind of self-referential loop of "what rules do we use to guide us in creating a set of rules?", we consulted Amazon. I soon stumbled upon both Roberts Rules of Order, and this "Brief" version of the original. I laughed immediately at the idea of using an unabridged version of Robert's Rules to govern our family dinner conversations. To impose that level of formality on something as informal as dinner seemed a bit crazy, if you ask me. But the "brief" version of Robert's Rules is just what the family needs.
Family conversations in the evening have improved (as best we can measure) threefold. My seven-year-old son has learned to listen attentively to proposals, and to consider all discussed points before voting on issues such as what time to go to bed on school nights, and whether to eat a piece of fruit or a piece of candy for a bedtime snack. My wife has learned that the minutes she prepares for the evening meal need not be (indeed, should not be) filled with details about what was said. Instead, she focuses on "what happened" at each meal. This has cut nearly in half the amount of time it takes her to write up the minutes, giving her a little extra time to focus on preparing the martini she hands me when I get home from the office. That little extra time has made the martini both a little dryer, and a little dirtier (she now has time to add a little olive juice...try it!).
In short, if you are looking to better organize your family's dinner meetings, and your martinis are becoming rather lackluster, Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised in Brief might be just the solution.
Clear and concise.......2007-05-21
Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, does precisely what it says it will do: it sets out clearly and concisely the distillation of decades of parliamentary procedure. Unfortunately (unless the organization is writing laws that will affect people's lives and livelihoods), if one needs this book in order to resolves disputes, the organization is probably in deeper trouble than can be fixed by a mere book. Still we soldier on. This is one more tool to assist in developing effective leadership, but isn't much help when it comes to coping with troublemakers.

This is another pretty good book from the author. As in his earlier book, he starts with the motivation for open innovation, which is an old idea but that is not well practiced. In this new book he addresses many of the shorcomings of the first book, such as getting real value out of the partnerships that can be formed while overcoming internal issues, such as NIH. He then talks about different ways companies go about this. What drives you crazy is that he seems unaware that companies have been doing this forever. In the consumer electronics industry, for example, open innovation is mostly the model. Companies like GE, TI, and RCA were examples. In the case of GE and RCA they go back almost 100 years.
Well-written, concise, with specific examples.......2007-06-02
As with his previous book Open Innovation, Chesbrough provides a concise and easily read review of important new trends in high-tech management. In this book the focus is on the path an innovation takes to profitability in the marketplace. Among the topics reviewed are novel "intermediate markets" for ideas and technology.
I particularly appreciated the chapters of the book that provide nine examples of companies that are more-or-less "pure play" innovation intermediaries. Companies like Innocentive, Ocean Tomo, and UTEK are profiled in depth. I appreciate the specificity, which will allow the reader to evaluate Chesbrough's insights into the future: By following up on the progress of these companies, we'll see how well Chesbrough hit the mark. This specificity is rare in business books.
It will be interesting to see where Chesbrough's interests flow in future. I would welcome a focus on public sector research institutions. A comparison of the innovation and commercialization models among universities, NIH, NASA, ESA, etc. could be helpful to policy makers as Open Innovation ideas gain wider acceptance.
Open Business Models for Those Who Rely on Technology Innovation and Need Intellectual Property Protection.......2007-05-14
This book is misnamed. Rather than being about open business models, the book's topic is about how to open business models to benefit from access to more technological innovation and strengthen your competitive posture through intellectual property.
As a result, Professor Chesbrough creates a misapprehension that successful open business models are almost always linked to technological innovation as their main purpose and benefit. My own research (with Carol Coles in The Ultimate Competitive Advantage: Secrets of Continuously Developing a More Profitable Business Model) indicates just the opposite point: Technological innovation is rarely the most effective way to open up your business model to create improvements.
So, this book's value is mostly to those who work in achieving or creating more benefits from technology innovation. If that is your interest, you've come to the right book. If that's not your interest, skip this book.
Why do those involved in achieving or creating more benefits from technology innovation need to open their business models? Professor Chesbrough points to several influences:
1. Technological innovation is coming from more sources than ever before. As a result, you will be developing inferior technology without accessing the best of what the world has to offer.
2. Most intellectual property isn't used for any practical purpose. That's a waste of social and company resources.
3. The protections for intellectual property are stronger now, and your pathway to progress will be blocked without collaborating with those who have complementary IP.
4. Product cycles are shorter and costs of developing new technologies are higher; open business models offer the promise of getting to market sooner at lower cost so that your business has a better chance of earning a decent return on new technology.
5. Large companies need to make new product development more productive if they are to meet their growth goals.
Professor Chesbrough does a nice job of developing those themes. He balances theoretical arguments with case histories of recent practices.
Of even more value, he explains how companies will have a hard time finding all of the technology they need without help. As a result, he feels that intermediaries will turn out to be important to helping connect organizations. His case histories of such intermediaries are very interesting in showing how difficult it is to play such intermediary roles without deep pockets.
For those who are new to the subject of technological innovation in the context of business models, you will find his descriptions of what a business model is (see page 182) and types for assessing your business model (see pages 132-133) to be helpful. The only quibble I would make with his types is that in his examples he assumes relative undifferentiation in industries and business types where there are often large nontechnological differentiations.
I found the last chapter to be by far the most helpful, in describing three case histories (IBM, Procter & Gamble, and Air Products) for showing how large organizations went from closed to open business models for the purpose of technological innovation. In fact, the discussion of Procter & Gamble's practices is the best one that I have read. That point, by itself, is sufficient to commend this book to you. I suspect that almost everyone will be doing what Procter & Gamble is doing now ten years hence.

What is an open business model? In Chapter 1, here's Henry Chesbrough's response to that question: "A business model performs two important functions: it creates value and it captures a portion of that value. It creates value by defining a series of activities from raw materials through to the final consumer that will yield a new product or service with value being added throughout the various activities. The business model captures value by by establishing a unique resource, asset, or position within that series of activities, where the firm enjoys a competitive advantage."
Having thus established a frame-of-reference, Chesbrough continues: "An open business model uses this new division of innovation labor - both in the creation of value and in the capture of a portion of that value. Open models create value by leveraging many more ideas, due to their inclusion of a variety of external concepts. Open models can also enable greater value capture, by using a key asset, resource, or position not only in the company's own business model but also in other companies businesses."
These two brief excerpts are provided because Chesbrough`s definitions of various terms are far clearer and more authoritative than mine could possibly be. Also, these excepts address the "what" so that in the balance of this brilliant book, Chesbrough can then focus almost entirely on the "why" and "how" concerning the design, implementation, modification, and performance measurement of open business models.
I was especially interested in what Chesbrough has to say about what several quite different exemplary companies -- including IBM, Qualcomm, Genzyme, Procter & Gamble, and Chicago (the musical stage show and film) -- share in common: "each started with an idea that traveled from invention to market through at least two different companies" which shared the work of innovation, and, all were assisted by effective management of an open business model. Chesbrough also devotes a substantial attention to IBM whose type 3 business model (i.e. multiple segmentations, "inside-out" mindset) reached a financial crisis in 1992. Had the IBM board not replaced its then CEO with Lou Gerstner and fully supported his leadership throughout an immensely complicated and equally difficult transformation , it is probable that IBM would not have survived. Gerstner deserves much of the credit for the success of that "cultural revolution" (as he once described it) but much credit should also be assigned to IBM's open source business model. Procter & Gamble is another company which completed an especially difficult transition from having internal staff members who protected (hoarded?) various technologies so that other companies, including potential competitors, could not use them to becoming a company with a much more open approach to innovation. Chesbrough notes that P&G began to pay much greater attention of external licensing of its technologies, (e.g. to BearingPoint), now strongly supports openly partnering for driving growth equity joint ventures (e.g. with Clorox), and an entirely new perspective on competitive advantage.
According to Jeff Weedman, vice president of P&G's external business development: "There are many kinds of competitive advantage. The original view here was: I have got it, and you don't. Then there is the view, that I have got it, you have got it, but I have it cheaper. Then there is I have got it, you have got it, but I got it first. Then there is I have got it, you have gotten it from me, so I make money when I sell it, and I make money when you sell it." To me, that in essence describes the primary competitive advantage of the open business model.
I also appreciate what is rarely provided in other business books: detailed notes (Pages 217-242) which are clustered per chapter. As I read them, it seemed as if Chesbrough were standing next to me, supplementing his narrative with additional comments that are always informative and frequently entertaining. What also struck me about Chesbrough's notes is that they enable him to acknowledge various sources with appreciation and admiration. His was obviously an open source approach to the research for this book and then to the writing of it.
To thrive in the new innovation landscape, change agents must have both an open mind and the courage to challenge what James O'Toole characterizes, in Leading Change, as "the ideology of comfort and the tyranny of custom." They would also be well-advised to absorb and digest the material in this book. Congratulations to Henry Chesbrough on a brilliant achievement.

We have become accustomed to the fact that innovation has become a standard of the industrial world. Indeed companies like Microsoft market (very successfully) what is essentially nothing but an arrangement of bits. One of the things that this book brings to mind is that a lot of other companies (Procter & Gamble, Air Products) are innovative in a business that you wouldn't think of as being particularly innovative.
This book is exploring fairly new ground in its concept of 'Open Innovation,' that is creating a marketplace for innovation itself. You might not be able to capitalize on your new innovative idea, perhaps Air Products can, or perhaps you can use something that Procter & Gamble has done. This is a good addition to the authors' previous book. It isn't the usual blah, blah, blah, but scientific information which amount to common sense. I am grateful to the authors for keeping me and my wife young at heart. I was happy to buy for my wife this book as "her own" copy, after we both extensively studied the original "Younger Next Year". Another great book that I highly recommend is "Can We Live 150 Year". In fact these two titles should be sold in one package as they complement each other

Encouraging book!!.......2007-09-28
This book gives advice and encouragement to women who have falsely come to believe that deterioration comes with age and there is nothing we can do about it. I truly enjoyed it and recommend it, but still want to make the following comments: it belabored the value of exercise to the point where I felt like shouting "OK, I get it, I get...we need to exercise!". In a way, I kept waiting for the book to also talk about OTHER things too, but really this was the total focus of the book. I also thought that it would have been nice if the authors included some women doctors' perspectives too (it was weird getting all that advice on how we women should live our lives from two men). And lastly, I felt that the recommendation (strongly and repeatedly given) to exercise for HOURS a day, every day preferably, was fine for the retired author of the book who, as another reviewer also mentioned, was spending ALOT of time doing things that are not easily affordable by the average woman, nevermind the huge amount of vacation/play time he had to enjoy that high-end exercise, like biking trips and skiing trips...not realistic for the kinds of lives most women, age 50-60 at least, really live in today's world (lives filled with the time demands of jobs combined with children, homes, elderly parents, grandchildren, etc.). It may be that this much exercise is what is really needed to turn back the clock, but I'm hoping that's not true- since so few of us have THAT much time to devote to exercise (the authors seemed to think that if you had your priorities straight, you'd find the time). In summary, however, the authors did convince me that I need to add strength training to my cardio training, so all-in-all, I felt it was worth reading this book and I do recommend!

A Counter-Cultural Call to Biblical Leadership.......2007-07-27
Drawing from examples of leaders in the Bible, leadership theories, testimonies of ministry and secular leaders, and their own experiences, Henry and Richard Blackaby present a refreshingly helpful and insightful resource on leadership in their book, Spiritual Leadership. Recognizing that Christian leadership today sounds more and more secular than Christian, the Blackabys call on Christians in leadership roles, both inside and outside of the church, to "seek to lead God's way" (17). They define this type of spiritual leadership as "moving people on to God's agenda" (20).
Three main aspects of Spiritual Leadership set it apart from other leadership books and make it highly commendable...
First, it is intended for a broad audience. It is written in a way to be just as helpful for Christian CEOs and other business people as it is for pastors and ministry leaders. In fact, the authors state that they intend this work to be for all Christians who want to make a difference (14).
Second, and most significant, Spiritual Leadership is theocentric in its approach, not anthropocentric. This book is not a do-it-yourself guide to leadership nor is it a self-help book. Instead, it is a refreshing focus on God in the vast sea of "Christian" leadership books today. From the outset, issues such as goals and influence are all presented in terms of God's will. For example, influence is defined as moving people from where they are to where God wants them to be (20). Even popular leadership concepts are reframed in order to present the issue from God's perspective, such as noting how time management really is personal management in order to stay on God's agenda (200). All throughout the pages of this book the Blackabys paint the picture of leadership in terms of God's plans. It is not about advancing one's personal goals. Rather, it is about obeying God and moving people to be in line with His will. The authors conclude that since "God is on mission," the task of leaders is to join Him in that mission and bring people along to join that mission (70). In light of this reality, leaders are urged to make decisions with the reminder that they will give an account before God. The authors remind the readers that the goal is bringing God glory while the reward is finding joy in knowing that they pleased God. In being God focused, this book also recognizes that leaders can accomplish nothing without God. Instead of providing a checklist to be used to achieve goals, the Blackabys encourage leaders to depend on the Lord. In fact, from the outset they state that God calls leaders to do things that only He can do; thus, spiritual leaders must depend on the Holy Spirit (21). Such dependence on the Lord requires a leader to have a vibrant prayer life as well as seek guidance in the Word, from other believers, and even from looking at how God is moving in the circumstances of life. While the repeated stress on dependence and prayer may cause the reader to think "I've heard all of these things ten times already!," such an emphasis prevents the reader from missing the most important theme of the book as well as challenges him or her to remember Jesus' words that are so counter-cultural in the leadership world today: "Apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
Third, Spiritual Leadership focuses more on being than on doing. Instead of offering a program to implement, a check-list to do, or an attitude to embrace, this book challenges leaders to be faithful to God. As in the other themes, the Blackabys are straightforward in this assertion, as seen when they say within the first several chapters that "leadership is more about `being' than about `doing'" (31). The Blackabys believe that being holy and faithful and modeling obedience to God's will are necessary since leaders cannot take their followers deeper than where they themselves are. As such, spiritual leaders must spend much time in the "conscious presence of God" (170). By abiding in Him, spiritual leaders can then encourage their followers to grow in their relationship with God. In addition, such abiding is shown to be necessary since spiritual leadership comes through revelation, not from vision. As leaders and followers seek God, they will be able to join together in accomplishing the work to which He calls them.
All of these themes are repeated throughout the book. By stating them directly in the introductory chapters and repeating them throughout, it is hard to imagine how any reader could miss this counter-cultural, yet solidly biblical, approach toward leadership. By the time readers turn the last page, they can easily articulate the thesis that spiritual leadership is moving people on to God's agenda. They can articulate the reality that leadership is about pleasing God. They understand that such leadership requires abiding with God more than doing certain tasks. Most of all, they recognize that such spiritual leadership, while hard work, is a high calling and a "God-given privilege" (236). Whether you find yourself in a leadership role in the church, in business, in education, or even in your home, the timeless, Biblical principles articulated by Richard and Henry Blackaby will motive you to discern God's will, be faithful to follow the path He has set before you, and do everything you can to bring others along on the exciting adventure of knowing and following God.

The book differentiates between worldly leadership and spiritual leadership, the leader's relationship with God being the key to his/her ability to lead effectively and appropriately. The author's move through eleven chapters each focusing on one key aspect of the leader's life, from The Leaders Challenge (chapter 1), to The Leaders Character (chapter 5), to The Leaders Pitfalls (chapter 11).
List strengths of book.
I found the emphasis on the spiritual aspect of leadership to be very refreshing, not to mention accurate! The book is rooted in biblical principles and is focused on helping the leader to make godly decisions in all that he does. The definition of leadership was also very refreshing: "Spiritual Leadership is moving people on to God's agenda" (p. 20). I liked the parallel with Robert Clinton's book on "The Making of a Leader" concerning how God develops leaders. I also found the "Concepts and Scriptures for Consideration" at the end of each chapter to be very helpful.
List weaknesses of book.
I found very little to consider as a weakness of this book. The only issue might be that at times it was not always practical. There are times when the authors will share how something needs to be in the life of the leader without following up with clear practical ways/steps to accomplish the desired issue. However, I did not find this to be the case very often in the book.

Purchased for my husband. This book is a must have for pastors who want to make Godly decisions. Blackably does an excellent job explaining what true leadership is and how to know if you are successful (by God's Standards).

Great Introductory Book.......2006-05-03
Great for learning the basics of psychology in a comprehensive, thorough, easy to understand manner. I used it for my university freshman psych course, and even though the professors had to add some additional information to the texts, it served as a great guildline for psychology majors.
BEWARE: paperback edition and hardcover are different books!.......2004-02-03
Actually I'm reviewing the paperback edition; Amazon has a bug in this one.
I wanted to buy the "text book" of Psychology so I checked the hardcover, there in the tab "other editions" I noticed a paperback edition (which was $100 cheaper) so i followed the link, after reading the reviews and "looking inside the book" I decided to buy the paperback edition (the reviews and the "look inside the book" were supposedly for the paperback edition).
The problem was when I received the book... it wasn't the book but the "study guide" (which is worthless without the book) I went back to Amazon and checked carefully and alas when I went to the paperback edition there is a slight change in the title (which one doesn't check again because it's supposed to be the same book) but the reviews and everything else is the same which is VERY misleading.
I already sent them an e-mail asking them to change this, but for the meantime be careful.
P.S: I rated with 3 stars because I had to put something I'll fix it when I get the hardcover edition and I can actually use it.
Text for Honors Introductory Psychology.......2001-11-07
I've used the text for my honors section of Psych 101 and as a source for lecture material in my other sections. IMHO, this the the best textbook for Intro Psych that I have ever come across in terms of the depth of material presented. It is, however, probably too difficult for the large lecture hall sections or sections taught entirely by graduate students. For these sections I would recommend David Myers' textbook. Much more student-friendly, and still an excellent source of information. Fridlund, et al., is still the gold standard.
Outstanding, comprehensive "intro." book........2001-07-15
This introduction text represents a "tour de force" in dealing with a complex subject. Psychology is divided into 5 sections dealing with Action, Cognition, Social Behavior, Development, and Individual Differences. Each chapter contains the biological basis at work, because, as the authors so beautifully put it "we aren't just minds; we are minds embodied."
This book is for the serious student; the dabbler, and those whose understanding of psychology is limited to pop psych-type self-help, psycho-babble will be bored.

you buy a computer, you get a manual. people think they're so smart and yet most of them don't even know what cognitive dissonance is.
if you would like to understand, read the manual.
