No rest for the reader is more like it.....l.......2007-10-08
I just finished reading this book and I can't wait for immortals after dark series 3! I've already pre-ordered waiting in anticipation! These characters are deep, passionate with thier work and very wicked when it comes to 'winning the prize' of all prizes. Going back in time to prevent tragedy which also may have consequences. It's a spellbinding read which made me want to 'forget the real life' for awhile to learn how these characters unfolded and came together. Write faster Kresley Cole!
Still So So.......2007-09-14
Okay. Still love the characters and the love scenes are very very hot and steamy. And because of that I give a 4 star rating. But still similar to the 1st book, where the femaile character (Katja) plays a little too much hard to get. That kind of fustrates me a little. However, I still plan to read the 3rd book when it comes out.
No Rest for the Wicked.......2007-09-08
Kresley Cole is one of the best authors of immortal romance EVER!
I have read too many books to list in this genre from many best selling authors and can not remember what sets one book apart from another, except when it comes to Mrs. Cole's Dark series.
Her characters are beyond sexy and yet so vunerable it makes their need for each other so much more real. I find myself laughing out loud and caught off guard several times during her stories when one of the characters says something that makes perfect sense but is so off the wall funny, I need a minute or two to stop giggling and pick the book back up again.
To tell you the truth "No Rest for the Wicked" isn't even her best work out of the three books, but it is still so worth reading.
All of the men and women featured in her Immortals books are all very different from one another, and all very easy to relate to, yet they still remain three very different stories with different personalities, struggles passions and abilities, unlike most romance novels where the same story line and characters are recycled over and over again.
Anyway, my point is GET THIS BOOK and anything else in the Immortals After Dark Series right away. I guarantee you'll love them all!!!!!
p.s. Did I mention that the love scenes in her books are beyond hot! Beyond incredible! Beyond imaginative! Beyond wild, and beyond sweet?....Well if I didn't, then there you have it.
Great Sequal.......2007-08-30
I was pleasantry surprised by Kresley Cole's second book in the Immortals after Dark series.
Wonderfully put together, great characters, and a book I can read over and over again!
Not Bad.......2007-08-14
Not as good as the first book in this series but still a good read.

A must read for children.......2007-09-20
I just finished a four week Behavioral Pain Management program. The minute I got this book in the mail, I was aware of how vaulable this would be for children who are either experiencing pain themselves, or know someone who is.
It should be a part of every school library and every counselor's office!
This book is magic........2007-01-12
Having practiced yoga for several years I understand the power of breathing for relaxation, but I was stumped on how to teach my energetic, bouncing off the wall, 5 year old how relax himself to sleep. The Boy and the Bear has given me that tool. It's simple, meditative and calming for us all. Tonight he said "Mom, let's read the Boy and the Bear, it slows me down".
Wonderful Relaxation Book.......2006-11-10
My girls (ages 3 and 5) love this book. The can pretend to be the boy or the bear, and it helps them relax in a fun way.
Relaxing, Effective, Excellent Resource for Parents and Educators.......2006-09-18
First I will begin by listing the programs/CD's/books that I have purchased from Lite Books. 4 books: A Boy and a Bear, The Affirmation Web, A Boy and a Turtle and The Goodnight Caterpillar plus 5 audio CDs: Indigo Dreams, Indigo Ocean Dreams, Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness, Indigo Teen Dreams and Indigo Dreams: Adult Relaxation plus: Children's Stress Awareness Curriculum Designed for Youth Education.
Next I will say "THEY ARE ALL AMAZING!" For 9 years I worked as an advocate for children in a homeless shelter for women and children. I was constantly challenged with finding resources that were short, effective, and held the attention of the children. I was able to find resources but not all in one spot, I had to piece a little of this and a little of that to reach a fully rounded program that worked. The tools that Lori Lite created within each book and each CD offer short, highly effective programs that hold the attention of children. And best of all it is a package deal! You do not have to pull from any other program because the tools that she gives you are all you need. I am now an HHP and use the books and CD's when working with children of any age to simply give them powerful tools that they can use in daily life and hopefully carry into teen and adult hood. In my opinion Lite Books offer the best resources available to the health and wellness of children on the market. Within my own life I use the CD's as a nightly staple within the bedtime process of my children. They have not been able to stay awake long enough to finish even one of the stories on the CD yet. That is how relaxing the CD's are. For myself I have to stay sitting up when tucking them in and listening with them because if I get comfortable I am waking up in the middle of the night still in my kid's room! During daylight hours and when my children are well rested I have worked each session on the CD's with them from beginning to end. Now when they are feeling overwhelmed, frightened, angry etc... I will see them use the techniques they have learned through Loris programs, they move quickly from the negative feeling to a positive approach and positive result.
Lite Books offers professional and friendly customer service, with great shipping time. I am so grateful to have found this amazing resource and look forward to being one of their strongest professional advocates as well as personal customers!
A Boy and a Bear: The Children's Relaxation Book.......2006-04-08
We have several of Lori Lites' book and the Indigo dreams CD, and like them all but this by far my challenging son's favorite. My husband read the story the first few times, and my son did like the story, but did not get much from it. I realized that DH did not really understand the importance of using a very calm, soothing voice (it can be hard to find it with an oppositional child). So, I asked DH to simply flip pages with the CD going. They both got so relaxed they fell asleep. I will say I have some practice at mediation but I am no expert. I took a turn with as I had read the story and thought it would help if we could get him to participate. I started reading it and got so into it that almost forgot I was reading it to someone. Wow! I was floored when he began to spontaneously breath rhythmically with me. He was so centered and peaceful for the next couple of days. It was one of the most rewarding moments I have had with him. Since then, Mommy reads the story to him. Is a cure all? No way, but if, you enjoy meditation and rhythmic breathing, and do the work for yourself in the book, you may just find that your child comes along for the ride.

Combining Multiple Technologies Under a New Name.......2007-01-15
If you really want to get a good discussion going among web types just ask the question, 'What's Web 2.0.?'
The authors of this book have decided that Web 2.0 is a series of loosely integrated technologies that when used together are able to create a greatly enhanced web experience. These include:
HTML moving to XHTML
Cascading Style Sheets
JavaScript moving to Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX)
Syndication and RSS Feeds
Web Services (REST and SOAP)
Uniform Record Identifiers (URI)
Serving Multimedia
and of course Security.
This book identifies, describes, and ties all these technologies together. It presume that the reader is a professional developer who have at least a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML. It is written by professional programmers with an intended audience of professionals. The one complaint that I would mention is that the coverage of Ruby on Rails is so minimal. This seems to be a growing technology, and at least come comments pro or con would have been appreciated.

Book Description
Americas favorite pediatric experts turn their attention to the hottest topic in parentingsolving babies sleep problemsin a definitive book that offers immediate results. For every parent whos ever been deprived of sleep by a restless infant or toddler, now theres hope. This much-needed addition to the Sears Parenting Library is the comprehensive, reassuring, solution-filled sleep resource that virtually every American family will want to own. Nighttime separation anxiety, new breastfeeding habits, and an increase in adult sleep problems have made babies sleep habits a growing concern in recent years. The Searses offer solutions. Instead of espousing the kind of one-method-fits-all approach advocated in other parenting books, the Searses teach parents how to match the nighttime temperament of their baby to their own lifestyle. The authors draw on important new infant sleep research from the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, as well as on their own personal experience as parents of children with a wide range of sleep habits. They also offer a detailed critique of the myriad new devices and ballyhooed techniques that promise to deliver safer and better infant sleep. THE BABY SLEEP BOOK provides parents with the practical tools they need to help the entire family sleep better.

How to respond lovingly to your baby and help both of you get some sleep.......2007-09-27
In a society where new mothers are probably asked more often if their babies are sleeping through the night than anything else, it becomes a mark of pride among some people to boast that they have gotten their 2 week old to sleep, or an issue that creates a lot of stress.
Dr Sears rebuts the arguments in favor of crying it out, presenting compassionate ideas for getting some sleep, and explaining the importance as a human being of responding to the cries of the new little helpless person in your life, instead of conceiving of them as a scheming, manipulative devil in a onesie. He is well-acquainted with the nuances of sleeping (and wide awake) babies and advises accordingly.
If your major concern is sleep, this book (by itself) may help, but probably is more helpful if you are already familiar with Dr Sears.
So grateful.......2007-07-12
I feel fortunate to have found this book. As a mom who is expecting her second child, I had followed my instinct with my first child - who was not the best sleeper. I felt bad hearing and seeing others have such an easy time. At the same time, I second guessed myself thinking maybe I went about things in the wrong way. Reading this gives me more tools, resources and confidence to go with my instincts.
A Great Sleeping Tool.......2007-06-05
Thank you Dr. Sears! My son and I (and husband too) are all sleeping better. I took his advice and started napping with my son (he has plenty of other suggestions, but this was most fitting for us). It took awhile, but he now naps on his own and doesn't wake up at 30 minutes like he used to. I miss my naps a little, so we still co-nap on occassion...but now I can do laundry, dishes, email, etc. while he sleeps if I want to. YAY! My husband read the section on co-sleeping and decided it was something we should do...I didn't need any convincing...we're all sleeping together and waking up well rested!
On the Fence..........2007-05-18
I have very mixed feelings about this book, especially since I have had it for about a year, am 25 weeks pregnant with #2, and have a 19 month old who STILL wakes up multiple times per night.
Since Emma came home from the hospital, she was pretty clear that she was going to be difficult about sleep, so it was easy for me, naive and worried about EVERYTHING, to fall into Dr. Sears AP approach to nighttime parenting. I took on the sole responsiblity of parenting her to sleep b/c I honestly believed I was the only one who could. She was breastfed, and while I think it is impractical to try not to let a breastfeeding baby fall asleep at the breast, I definitely think that we could have modified our methods to allow more Dad interaction. Some of the reviewers have said basically that this is a mom-centered book but that isn't entirely the case. He does have a whole chapter on dads and how they can get involved at night and with sleep. I just didn't want to let her cry at ALL and being with Dad made her cry.
In the early days, when babies wake up all night, co-sleeping did seem to help with sleep deprivation, but I wish that I had been more adamant about her sleeping by herself sooner. I have a book on breastfeeding by Janet Tamaro, and she makes the point in the section about sleep/nighttime that any habit can be broken, but it will take time.
The naptime strategies help; I do have a very good napper. Her nighttime habits just haven't really matured. And I do respect the fact that children sleep differently, but I need help, not someone to tell me that over and over. The Drs. Sears do say that if something isn't working for you it needs to be fixed, but I wish there were more solutions instead of what seem to be general suggestions.
Okay, I now have Dr. Weissbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child," and Emma now sleeps through the night (11-12 hours) with not a peep out of her. I totally recommend his book. It took three days and she was sleeping like she NEEDS to. Cheers!!
Found this book very usefull.......2007-05-08
I was very against putting my baby asleep using the 'cry it out' method. This book justified my beliefs and gave very good reasons why that method is not effective. It gives good tips on getting baby to sleep on their own without causing them undo distress. I was able to take what I could use from this book and use if effectively on my son.
Book Description
"Every developer working with the Web needs to read this book." -- David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of the Rails framework
"RESTful Web Services finally provides a practical roadmap for constructing services that embrace the Web, instead of trying to route around it." -- Adam Trachtenberg, PHP author and EBay Web Services Evangelist
You've built web sites that can be used by humans. But can you also build web sites that are usable by machines? That's where the future lies, and that's what
RESTful Web Services shows you how to do. The World Wide Web is the most popular distributed application in history, and Web services and mashups have turned it into a powerful distributed computing platform. But today's web service technologies have lost sight of the simplicity that made the Web successful. They don't work like the Web, and they're missing out on its advantages.
This book puts the "Web" back into web services. It shows how you can connect to the programmable web with the technologies you already use every day. The key is REST, the architectural style that drives the Web. This book:
- Emphasizes the power of basic Web technologies -- the HTTP application protocol, the URI naming standard, and the XML markup language
- Introduces the Resource-Oriented Architecture (ROA), a common-sense set of rules for designing RESTful web services
- Shows how a RESTful design is simpler, more versatile, and more scalable than a design based on Remote Procedure Calls (RPC)
- Includes real-world examples of RESTful web services, like Amazon's Simple Storage Service and the Atom Publishing Protocol
- Discusses web service clients for popular programming languages
- Shows how to implement RESTful services in three popular frameworks -- Ruby on Rails, Restlet (for Java), and Django (for Python)
- Focuses on practical issues: how to design and implement RESTful web services and clients
This is the first book that applies the REST design philosophy to real web services. It sets down the best practices you need to make your design a success, and the techniques you need to turn your design into working code. You can harness the power of the Web for programmable applications: you just have to work with the Web instead of against it. This book shows you how.
Customer Reviews:
A Breath of Fresh Air.......2007-09-30
For those of us floundering in the complete mess of heavyweight web service standards driven by the large industry vendors, it comes as a surprise that the web already has all the features you need to build enterprise level distributed systems.
This book is well written and will become one of the 'must haves' on any developer's bookshelf.
Amazing.......2007-09-28
A book well written and self-explanatory about how to write wonderful web-services without getting crazy with WSDL :)
Prescription for your SOA woes.......2007-09-01
For those of us who have borne the agony of delivering and maintaining "big" web services, REST architectures as theorized by Roy Fielding came as a whiff of welcome, fresh air. But, like in any fresh pastures, the oxygenating promise of simplicity pulled us in different directions leading to arguments about the degrees of RESTfulness and the fundamental principles of REST. From Amazon to deli.cio.us to flickr, RESTful API's flourish, but when compared, differ. Which raises the question: if there was a 'pure' REST architecture, what would it look like? How would you build it?
This book answers those questions more completely than any other resource out there. It has been one of the most valuable books I have held with me for it has shown me in all its glorious theory, practice and examples, how I may generate complex service-oriented behavior using simple rules. Once immersed, 400 pages will fly by. The rules were always out there, what this book does is simply to explain them to the rest of us, who have not 'got it' yet and how to play by those rules. Read the book. Chew on it. When you understand the vision and the road-map it lays out to achieve the vision, as you begin to see how you may scale those seemingly-unsurmountable web-service hurdles, you will be as glad as I am now, to have invested in this wonderful book.
Good but pedantic and repetitious.......2007-08-30
Ok, the concept behind the book is valid: let's have computers use the web the way it was intended to be used, and if everybody sticks to a small set of reasonable design rules, we'd all be better off. But why does it take 400 pages for the authors to drive that point home (over and over again)? 70% of the content seems "filler" material, which has been put in just to turn this into a book. True, there are code examples that may be helpful to some beginner programmers, but I'm still left feeling that this could have been a well-written, 3-chapter book about 100 pages long.
I'm still glad I read it but found the blabbing rather frustrating. My 2c.
An important guide .......2007-08-07
Collections strong in web services and web development will find Leonard Richardson & Sam Ruby's RESTFUL WEB SERVICES an important guide to connecting web functions with everyday technologies everyone uses. REST is an architectural style that drives the web, and RESTFUL WEB SERVICES introduces ROA and the roles that govern design of RESTFUL web services. Advanced computer libraries catering to programmers need this expose which surveys functions and real-world applications, including common problems and solutions.

A Blueprint for the Golden Years.......2005-03-06
As Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter left the White House in early 1981 they faced an uncertain future. Like many people who retire, they just weren't sure what to do with themselves and all of their free time. To make matters worse, they still had to deal with the hurt they felt after having lost the 1980 election. The decisions they made about their future have vaulted Jimmy Carter from having lost his bid for reelection in a decisive manner to one of the most beloved figures in the United States. In 1984 President Carter was no where to be seen at the Democratic National Convention, twenty years later Democratic Presidential candidates beat a path to Plains, Georgia to try and obtain his blessing. Along the way the Carter's learned many valuable lessons that apply to anyone who may feel that their productive years have passed. This book is the story of what they learned.
This book was published in 1987 and was I believe President Carter's third post-Presidential book and Mrs. Carter's second book and both of them had become quite good writers. They are both open and honest about their feelings and concerns, especially Rosalynn and because of this their narrative reaches the reader on a very personal level. Many of the activities they describe were only possible of course because of the office Mr. Carter held and because of the Carter Center but they go to great lengths to point out many worthwhile activities that anyone can participate in. Reading this book will definitely make you stop and think about all of the things you could be doing to help others and I think that was the Carter's goal.
Part travelogue and part handbook for volunteerism this book will give you the warm fuzzies all over. You will feel sad with the Carter's and laugh with the Carter's and you will feel as if you had known this former first couple for years. You will in fact feel like you have traveled with the Carter's and maybe even helped them build a Habitat house. If you are looking for a retirement gift for anyone, this would be a perfect choice!
A revealing and inspiring memoir.......2003-07-19
Collaboratively written by former American President and winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize Jimmy Carter, and his beloved wife and former First Lady, Rosalynn Carter, Everything To Gain: Making The Most Of The Rest Of Your Life is a revealing and inspiring memoir about personal challenges they've had to face and overcome; the satisfaction of their work with Habitat for Humanity; their struggles to promote peace and human rights; and the personal steps they've taken to enjoy physical and spiritual health at home. Everything To Gain is enthusiastically recommended as a deeply rewarding and heartfelt encouragement to living our lives to the fullest.
Everyone Can Learn.......2002-08-11
... even former Presidents and their First Ladies, as Jimmy and Rosalynn show us in this, their entry in the self-improvement / retirement advice category.
Of course, anybody who's not a Dem is likely to be unwilling to take any such advice from the self-styled peanut farmer and his wife. So, I'm going over my stock of acquaintances, trying to remember who voted for Carter.
The book would make a great gift not just for recent retirees, but also those whose life has just gone through change, whether it be a layoff, a disabling illness, or the death of a spouse.
Sure wish my father had read it, twelve years ago, when my mother died -- so many ideas for him! Instead, he simply curled up in front of the TV.
Jimmy and Rosalynn show how devastated they were by their 1980 defeat, then, step by step, how they rebuilt. Parts of the book delve too far into global health and other policy issues, but chapter after chapter, they introduce new activities, like a flower opening!
If you're tired of fist-pounding self-improvement tomes, here is one that feels like a gentle friend, sitting beside you, arm around your shoulders, sharing the same problems you're having, and showing you several ways out of the "box" you've built for yourself. Read it and relax, then, go out and make the most of the rest of your life -- whether it's the next ten or next fifty years.
Nothing to gain..........2001-07-08
Despite the fact that this nearly broke up their marriage, this book is not what I hoped for when I picked it up and began reading. I missed the old Mrs Carter who had a wry story about her life on the campaign trail. I will never forget the many adventures that she detailed in "First Lady from Plains" which is a superior book in every way. The time she was trapped in bathroom stall and had to crawl out of it. Then there was the time when she had to cut her way out when trapped in a car by her seatbelt. Funny stuff and real human interest. If bizarre things can happen to the first lady of the land the can happen to anyone, can't they? The book I wanted to read was a kind of sequel to the masterful "First Lady from Plains." This clearly is not that book, though I hope Mrs. Carter will consider writing it one day real soon.

Doesn't live up to the title.......2007-09-20
This book really should be called Horse Ownership for the Rest Of Us -- it's not about riding, really, its more about owning a horse, how to choose your barn, etc. But if this is supposed to be written "for the rest of us" I don't know who the other people they're referring to are -- this book still assumes that you have the time and resources to get to the barn and ride YOUR OWN HORSE every day or thereabouts -- I'm not poor but there's no way I have the resources to buy the horse in the first place much less pay for boarding and vet care -- how about starting there? What if you don't own your own horse and have a full-time job but still want to be the best rider you can be? It was an interesting read but I gave it away, if you're looking for actual riding tips and techniques for older riders you should probably look elsewhere.
Okay if you're a true beginner.......2007-01-10
From the title and information about the book it appears aimed at all adult writers, in giving us the information we need, but can't find anywhere else. As a beginning adult writer, though someone who has been around horses for nearly fifteen years, I beg to differ with that claim. If you're a new adult rider, someone fairly inexperienced with horses, then Riding for the Rest of Us is exactly what it claims to be--a practical guide for adult riders. For those of us who have some horse knowledge, it may cover new territory, but most likely the information we're looking for is better obtained from other sources.
I rode both English and Western, yet I found the book's emphasis on English riding to be off-putting. Most of the basic information, horse care, time management, finding a good instructor, would be the same regardless of disciplines, but the book with its focus on the English disciplines pretty much excludes the many adult riders who ride Western. While I don't believe this to be intentional, it certainly restricts the audience and further undermines the claim that this is a practical guide for adult riders.
If you're completely new to horses and riding, then you'll find valuable information in the pages. If you have some experience under your belt, you may be better off looking for more specific books.
disappointment.......2005-02-11
I ordered this book and was full of expectation. But what a disappointment. The author just keeps on talking without getting to the point. I really learned nothing new from this book.
An Instructor's View.......2002-04-22
There are a lot of books about training, managing and caring for horses.
This book fills a niche that is so empty that it's still my bible when working with adult riders.
Ms. Jahiel has done a fabulous job.
If you are thinking of riding for the first time or getting back on board after a long hiatus then think seriously about buying this book.
Heads above the rest.
Thanks from someone who gets quite a few folks who have hit their stride in a career and then decide to follow the equine dream.
Good Questions...no answers.......2001-11-09
This book is a disappointingly shallow treatment of the subject. It raises many good questions an adult rider needs to ask... but doesn't help at all in finding or interpreting the answers! Everything is dealt with in a single paragraph, and that's just not long enough. I just didn't walk away from this one with an improved point of view as I'd hoped.

Penetrate the Propaganda.......2007-04-29
It's funny--there's a stereotype that politicians are all liars, yet anytime someone suggests that the government is lying to us, we quickly dismiss that as a ridiculous conspiracy theory.
Well, this book is not about a conspiracy theory; it's about World War II. And as the title says, it tells the other side of the story--the side you don't get from mainstream history books, most of which have been tainted by propaganda and thus offer only a very biased view of the facts.
As the author points out, no book is unbiased. If you're looking for pure objectivity, you'd better stick to math and science; you sure won't find it in history. Maybury is admittedly biased, and he explains right up front what his bias is so that the reader won't be deceived.
Some books may be more "patriotic" than this one, if your idea of patriotism is "my country, right or wrong." But, to borrow a scene from the movie The Matrix, you can choose the red pill or the blue pill: keep your blinders firmly in place, or dare to open your eyes to what's really going on.
For anyone who wants to take a sober look at the facts and make up his own mind, this book is a great place to start.
So, why not 5 stars if I love it so much? Well, it's an "Uncle Eric" book, ostensibly targeted to the narrator's twelve-year-old nephew. That means that if you're much older than twelve, it may sound like the author is talking down to you. If you can get past that, though, you'll find a clear presentation of oft-ignored facts about World War II. Lots of good food for thought.
Impetus for Thought.......2006-07-02
If you truly believe that questioning the ultimate motives for war is unpatriotic, then do not read this book. If you have the courage to accept there actually are two sides to every story, then this book is for you. The previous review takes quotes from this book entirely out of context ... whether you agree or not, this book does actually warrant investigation.
oh no, another anti-government book.......2006-02-09
If you are a homeschooler with a deep distrust of your government, then this book is for you. I am a homeschooling mom. I do not deeply distrust my government. The basic premise of this book may have slight credibility, (yes, Stalin did kill more people than Hitler). Yet, "Uncle Eric" makes some pretty over-the-top claims. Claims such as, "The Jewish Holocaust gets the publicity because it is regarded as the justification for Jews to have a Jewish state (Israel) in the Mideast.",(pg 36), and in regards to Pearl Harbor, "Few are willing to face the possiblity that the President and his cronies planned it all." (pg. 162).
If you are looking for facts and the whys and wherefores of WWII, look elsewhere--it'll save you having to pay to ship this book back.
Book Description
Arlington National Cemetery spreads across the rolling hills west of the Potomac, a serene and reverent sanctuary for the presidents, soldiers, and heroesfamous and unsung alikewho lie in eternal rest among its green lawns and quiet glades, a roster dating back to America's birth and including many of the foremost names in our history. A national monument in the truest sense, Arlington's solemn beauty embraces a brave legacya heritage remembered and renewed every day as the military buries its own.
Bittersweet, breath-taking, sometimes heart-wrenching, always deeply respectful, this commemorative book guides readers gently over tree-lined slopes to share the ceremonies observed throughout the year, from the traditional wreath-laying on Memorial Day, which enshrines centuries of courage with a formality at once austere and profoundly emotional, to the moving graveside services that honor individual men and women who served our country. Captured in stunning color by a select group of gifted photographers, 220 unforgettable images create a portrait as poignant as it is proud.
Archival photographs also trace the history of the cemetery from the early National Historic Monument, "Arlington House," to the eternal flame at the Kennedy grave to sections for the lost astronauts and victims of the 9/11 Pentagon attack. With an Introduction by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Atkinson, this lovely volume is both a fitting tribute and a stirring reminder of the values we Americans hold dear.

Excellent Pictorial Essay.......2007-09-22
This splendid work presents a graphic and lasting tribute to those who rest on the hallowed ground of Arlington, giving comfort to those who mourn and courage to those who follow. Few citizens will ever face the dangers these faithful warriors and their families have known in giving their last measure of devotion. This book, these pictures and the faces of the loved ones portrayed tell the story of our nation through trial, tempest and terror, only to prevail and persevere in the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln said on a historic battlefield, in dedication of another cemetery on a day long ago -"that these dead shall not have died in vain." Arlington and this lasting and memorable work echo those words for all who can see, hear and feel the emotion displayed in this literary and artistic presentation.
Beautifully moving.......2007-08-04
This is a great book for anyone who wants to see what Arlington is like.
amaizing book.......2007-07-21
Sad and Beautiful this book tells the story and history of one of the most famous cemeteries. My brother is in ANC in section 60 Mr. Atkinson does a great job describing just how it is at Arlington.
excellent gift.......2007-07-17
This is a beautiful book to keep or give as a gift. I gave it to my dad (a Vietname Veteran) for Father's Day. He has it displayed in his living room; just about everyone who visits picks it up and looks through it.
Has Patriotism been forgotten? - Look inside the cover.......2007-07-16
I have purchased this as a "Thank you" gift for my cousin in rememberance of her mother (my aunt) who is buried in Arlington. As I was looking through this book, the pictures were so moving that I could not get through the entire thing in one sitting. The emotion the pictures evoke is insurmountable. What a sad reminder to us all of the freedoms we so take for granted and what has been sacrificed for this country.
Book Description
Rita Mae Brown and her inseparable co-author, that fabulous feline Sneaky Pie Brown, are together again in this triple-threat collection of mystery and manners, southern-style. In fact, the first three novels in the Browns' Mrs. Murphy bestselling mystery series are reprinted here in their entirety. Whether you are already familiar with the detective work of postmistress Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen and her tiger cat Mrs. Murphy or are new to the team, you are sure to be intrigued by their unique approach. It's murder with a touch of whimsy, all set in the cozy hamlet of Crozet, Virginia. Meet Harry's friends, neighbors...and suspects--folks like notorious society vamp Boom Boom Craycroft in Rest in Pieces, or the nice Miranda Hogendobber in Murder at Monticello, and get a good taste of Brown's wickedly observant take on manners below the Mason-Dixon line. Cat lovers, mystery aficionados, and anyone who might like an armchair visit to a delightful old town down South, is sure to enjoy these witty, cleverly-plotted tales of suspense.

Great book! I especially like the animal communication........2007-05-21
This is a great book. Well written and an easy read. I think this book would be great for all ages, teen and up, who likes a good mystery. The animals communicate with each other and with other animals throughout the stories. You definately want to read the books in order, though. One story refers to the ones before it. All in all, I'm glad I bought them and am looking forward to finishing this one and getting the next book of 3 stories in the series.

3 Great Books Together!.......2006-06-03
In "Wish You Were Here", we meet Mary Minor Haristeen (aka Harry) and Mrs. Murphy (a tiger cat) and Tee Tucker (a Welsh corgi). Harry is recently divorced and a postmistress in Crozet, Virginia a very small town. She has grown up there, and finds it difficult adjusting to life as a divorcee' in such a small town. Half of the town is on her side, the other half on the side of her ex, Fair Haristeen, a beloved local vet. It also doesn't help that Harry is constantly seeing Boom Boom Craycroft, the other woman who broke up her marriage. But working in the town's post office with her pets each day does offer its own diversions. One such diversion is reading post cards...something Harry has always done. When 2 prominent business people are killed after receiving graveyard postcards reading "wish you were here", Harry realizes there is a pattern to the killing. And when a good friend receives one, Harry springs into action to stop the killer in his/her tracks.
In "Rest In Pieces", the animals once again play a huge role in solving a murder. The main character, Mary Minor Haristeen (aka Harry), along with her two animal friends Mrs. Murphy (a gray tiger cat) and Tucker (a corgi) lead the way. When newcomer, Blair Bainbridge, rolls into town a lot of folks in Crozet, Virginia believe that trouble rolled in with him. The handsome bachelor turns many female heads, and Harry tries to convince herself that she has sworn off men since her divorce. When pieces of a dead body are found on Blair's property, tongues start to wag. And when more pieces of the body are discovered during the Harvest Ball, a tragic event from Blair's past comes back to haunt him. Has this "Yankee" brought murder to this sleepy small-town?
Having just finished reading the first book in the series, I admit it was much easier for me to follow the dialogue between the animals in this second installment. At first, I had a difficult time following the discussions between the animals, as it adds to the already large cast of characters. However, I adore the way the animals speak to one another! Their antics are charming, and I find that it adds a lot to this great series.
The mystery had me guessing until the end. Normally, I am able to figure out the mysteries pretty quickly (as many cozies give a lot of clues), but I was surprised at the ending. This is a great series, and I look forward to reading the extensive collection of books by this author (and Sneaky Pie, of course!).
In "Murder at Monticello", a body has been discovered in the slave quarters of the home of Thomas Jefferson. Since Jefferson has been dead for 170 years, it is impossible to question him about the man found dead from a blow to the dead. And when another recently murdered body is discovered, it becomes apparent that someone wants the secrets that have been buried with the body to remain so. Coming into question is the practice of slavery, and the descendants of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson had been rumored to have fathered a child by one of his slaves, and it appears that the man found murdered may have been also been involved with one of the slaves. The citizens of Crozet band together to prove that their beloved Jefferson had nothing to do with the murder or cover-up, and while doing so they unearth secrets that have been hidden in the town for over a century.
I have become a big fan of this series, and enjoy the banter between the animals. The relationships between the members of the town have been evolving, and I like the way that Harry is loved and embraced by the people who have known her all of her life. She works hard, cares for her animals, and genuinely cares for the town and its residents. I look forward to future books in the series, and am hopeful to see more of Blair as a potential love interest for Harry.
If you like the KoKo and Yum Yum series by Lilian Jackson Braun, give this book a try. Enjoy!
Lighthearted and fun!.......2004-08-15
This is a great introduction to the Sneaky Pie Brown series, especially if you are like me and absolutely HAVE to read a series in order. These are really fun, quick reads. The cats and dog have some serious attitude, and the citizens of Crozet, VA are people you would want for neighbors and friends, other than the odd murderer inhabiting the tiny town. To a certain extent, these stories are similar to that old show Murder, She Wrote, because you just wonder how Harry constantly becomes involved in murder investigations in an otherwise peaceful town. You would think people would start avoiding her to save their own lives. I only gave it four stars because the mysteries are too easy to figure out!
On my top ten list!.......2004-08-06
Oh gosh, I don't even know how to start. I picked up Claws and Effect, a later book in the series, at my school's library last year and within minutes of starting it I was gobbling it up! I mean, murder, southern gentry, small-town gossip, and talking animals!!!! HOW GREAT CAN LIFE GET!? AND the dog is a CORGI *I am a considerably HUGE corgi fan* Written with wit and whimsy, Rita Mae Brown is my third favorite author. I am currently finishing "Murder She Meowed" (I read them all out of order) and it is my favorite Mrs. Murphy mystery yet!!! Hilarious! A MUST READ!!!
