Not bad........2007-02-26
I'm not against this book, and I think it's pretty good. It's good for your first step of studying the SAT! Also it's good enough to get you a decent score, but if you want to get a high score like 2300+ or 2250, I suggest you read other books also and start studying in your Freshman year instead of Sophmore or Junior year. But scoring 2300 is pretty tough, and by just reading this book is obviously not gonna get you that high. If you're still in Middle School, buy some SAT Vocabulary books and start memorizing. There's lots and lots of words to learn, and you won't get far once you start your High School years because you're going to get a lot more busy!
Best SAT Prep Book.......2006-12-04
This book really deserves more recognition than it has. None of my friends had ever seen this book, but I saw the reviews here and decided to get it anyway. I looked through it and simply didn't have enough time to study for the SATs as much as I would have liked, but I think if I were to do it all again, the number one thing I would have changed in my studying would have been to go through this entire book, maybe even twice. I got a 2160, which is okay, but really if I took the time to study the word list (which surpasses any other prep book BY FAR), I'm pretty sure my CR score would have gone up.
If you are a sophomore and are about to be a junior, or a junior who is getting prepared to take the SAT senior year, I recommend doing this entire book over the summer. Then the first month of school go through this book again and get all those vocab words in your head. I didn't study any vocab and I regret it. Everyone I talked to said that because the 2400 SAT doesn't have analogies, vocab wasn't as essential. I think vocab is still important for fill in the blank sections obviously, but also for the passage-reading sections. If you don't know a word in a sentence it really affects you and you just guess on the meaning, which you shouldn't be doing. The vocab list is definitely the highlight of this book.
Another great part of this book is the math section. It teaches you how to do all those math problems by thinking rather than memorizing. My math score went up about 60 points after doing about half of the math section in this book. Again, if I had more time to thoroughly go through this book I think my score would have gone up, and that goes for everyone willing to put the time into it.
This book is thick, and may be a bit much for people who are less serious about the SAT, but if you set up a strict schedule, and study this book, I'm sure it would help. I only went through a little vocab and half the math and even that helped me a lot. I didn't look at the Writing section quite as much so I don't have much to say about that, but the other sections would more than make up for it if it wasn't that good. So, get this book if you are willing to put in some serious hours. Don't get lazy!
Many thanks for an excellent SAT review book.......2006-08-13
I was very pleased with this book. It provided very thorough review and gave me a great deal of confidence for a test that was very nerve-racking. I felt more and more confident as I took the practice test and used the worksheets for my problem areas. I was very pleasantly surprised by my SAT score, and I have this book to thank.
Excellent work.
Excellent book, if you have a lot of time to prepare........2006-07-16
Summary:
This is an excellent book, if you have sufficient time and energy to plow through it.
There is an enormous amount of practice problems for all subject areas and question types. Also, every practice problem has a concise explanation. Most effectively, there is a comprehensive review of math, grammar, writing, and other applicable areas. If you need to review a particular area before taking the SAT, then this book is probably for you.
However, if you do not need a comprehensive review of the subject areas on the SAT, you may conclude that this book is not for you. It is very long (about 900 pages), and not that easy to read. It reads more like a textbook instead of a friendly, compact strategy book.
Also, there are only 5 tests provided in the book, but each is very close in kind to the real SAT.
Finally, my only complaint is that the authors state that it is not possible to devise strategies or "tricks" that maximize students' effort. I disagree as do my students whose scores have increased on ALL three sections (Black states on his plog that his students' CR scores dipped on the June SAT). I hope the reader will not view this statement as arrogant, rather as evidence refuting statements made in McGraw-Hill's SAT prep book.
This book as well as more than 20 other SAT prep books are reviewed and ranked on CEEAE dot org. Every book review has a direct link to its Amazon page, so you can read the reviews, view the rankings and then purchase your selections from Amazon.
The best of them all.......2006-02-03
If you want to know why this book is so much better than the other thick SAT books out there, just go to your bookstore and leaf through them all. What's obvious right off the bat is that the McGraw-Hill book is for students who actually want to learn the stuff on the SAT and not just a few quick tricks. Take the practice tests here (what everyone says ius true-they are tougher than the real thing), and then use the detailed answer key to point you to the lessons you need to review. The lessons in this books are very clear and WAY more thorough than the Princeton Review or Kaplan books. It has a great set of flashcards and the best vocab list of any book. But don't take my word for it. Go to your library or bookstore to compare, then buy it here ('cause it's cheaper). I used this book with the College Board "Official SAT Guide" for the October SAT, and my scores improved by 290 points overall. You can do it too without a $1400 Kaplan class!

The most helpful chem SAT II book out there.......2006-06-27
THis book really lays out the info in an easily understandable and organized way. It focuses on just the stuff you need to know and doesn't overwhelm you. The practice exams are great and really accurate. I read the book cover to cover like 3 times, did all the practice exams, and got a 780!!
A Collection of Falsehoods.......2006-05-29
This book is not so much a chemistry review book as a beguiling, deceitful encounter with incompetence. Having read only two-thirds of the so-called review section, I discovered numerous serious errors. Some of these errors include claims that mass is measured in g/mL (p. 45) and that CO2(g) has molecules that are arranged in a regular geometric pattern (p. 57). Additionally, there were misleading statements and diagrams regarding bonds between and within water molecules (p. 85-87), inconsistent values in equations (e.g., p. 108 and 118), and discrepencies between descriptions and diagrams (e.g. p. 124). These more serious errors are in addition to other trivial typos that I discovered. Of course, it is possible that other important errors have escaped my notice, or exist in the chapters that I did not see fit to read. The author and publishing house ought to be ashamed of themselves. Though I was fortunate enough to realize the terrible unsuitability of this rubbish, I tremble for those who were not, and are about to embark on the daunting journey through the SAT II. When one reads this book, one is tempted to convert potential energy into kinetic energy--that is, to throw the book down in disgust.
Good Book (like McGraw's SAT I book), be wary of other reviews.......2006-03-11
Like most McGraw test prep books, it is good quality and better than Princeton Review/Kaplan who I swear copy and paste those same "test taking" tricks from one book to another. Once you've read one, it's time to move on. But has anyone noticed that ALL of the other previous reviews are from NEW YORK. Moreover, most of them are only two sentences long, possibly indicating that someone decided to ensure this book had good reviews. If that's the case, that is really horrible because Amazon.com's reviews are generally pretty reliable unless they're reviews on a politically hot and polarized issue. Doing stuff like that is really demeaning to Amazon.com and its patrons.
If you plan on passing the chemistry SAT II, buy this book.......2005-12-22
This was the best investment I ever made in buying a book to help me study for an important test such as the SAT II. This book goes step by step through the vast world of chemistry and condenses the material into simple concepts. Not only that but Thomas A. Evangelist makes several analogies to everyday life that allow for a more thorough understanding of chemistry on the whole. It also includes great pictures and actual SAT II exams for more practice. This is a great book for chemistry and a fantastic guide for preparing for the SAT II's
All Hail Evangelist!!.......2005-12-12
2005 Book of the Year: Sat II Chemistry by Thomas A. Evangelist!! Mr. Evangelist is my chemistry teacher, and ever since I bought his book, I found all the questions and answers on the tests!! My Grades has dramatically improved!from 80's to 100's! I am very grateful for this book, chemistry could not have been easier.
Book Description
Set in the vibrant Industrial Age and filigreed with family drama and epic ambition, Crosley chronicles one of the great untold tales of the twentieth century. Born in the late 1800s into a humble world of dirt roads and telegraphs, Powel and Lewis Crosley were opposites in many ways but shared drive, talent, and an unerring knack for knowing what Americans wanted. Their pioneering inventions — from the first mass-produced economy car to the push-button radio — and breakthroughs in broadcasting and advertising made them both wealthy and famous, as did their ownership of the Cincinnati Reds. But as their fortunes grew, so did Powel’s massive ego, which demanded he own eight mansions and seven yachts at the height of the Great Depression. Rich with detailed reminiscences from surviving family members, Crosley is both a powerful saga of a heady time in American history and an intimate tale of two brilliant brothers navigating triumph and tragedy.

a msut read for radio fans.......2007-08-27
Great read for a radio fan or anyone interested in early 20th century business moguls.
The Crosley Empire.......2007-08-23
I bought this book for my brother who owned a Crosley years ago, but I read it before I gave it to him. Great book! One of the best I have read in a long time.
It was a great history lesson and you do not have to be a Crosley buff to enjoy it.
Would highly recommend.

Crosley: Two Brothers and a Business Empire That Transformed the Nation.......2007-08-11
The person for whom I purchased the book absolutely loves it!! It's the story, the pictures and presentation that just makes reading it so enjoyable. I'm very glad that I made this purchase.
Industrial pioneers.......2007-07-23
I'm sitting in a home full of computers, MP3 players, dvd recorders and players, a satellite TV box, and scores of electric appliances that are smarter than I am. Reading of a time when consumer electronics were unknown, and the primary electric appliance was a lightbulb, is like looking into the dark ages. Well, not quite. But you know what I mean.
The Crosley name is one that I've heard around my home throughout my life, but with the exception of a Crosley radio on a shelf, my knowledge of the company or the men that founded the firm was fuzzy at best. The authors have done an outstanding job at fleshing out Powel and Lewis Crosley and the world they lived in and revolutionized.
Many a novel I've read non-stop, but this is the first biography that I've done an "all-nighter" with.
The authors had no axe to grind, the times were well fleshed out, and one's faith in the ability of someone to think it up and do it, is reaffirmed. It was chock full of interesting information and facts, and I found myself checking Google satellite maps for locations mentioned in the book (Yes, the Arlington St. location still exisits and the satellite pic catches the executive tower, one-time home of WLW).
There is some bumpy writing, as noted in a few other reviews. I blame not the authors, but the editor. The boys really like their cliches. Lawyers are always "Sharpening their pencils," people come and go "Exit Stage right/left, Enter stage right/left;" and so many variations of "Masses not the classes" permeated the text, I wondered if they had some sort of Bolshevik thing going on.
That aside, this guy will be giving several copies of this book for Christmas this year - and I can't think of a better testimonial to the book.
Crosley.......2007-05-31
This was one of the most intersting biog. I have read in a long time. It is hard to believe the brothers could jam that much into just one lifetime and then it was all gone. I heartly recommend this book if you have an interest in one of our most exciting periods.

Sure its Full of Errors -> It's Still #1.......2007-07-17
First of, no joke I got an 800 on the SAT L2 Math. This book clearly was the most helpfull. At first I did a Kaplan book and it was full of errors. I am in A/E math at one of the best schools in the nation and this book was able to change my score from 700 to 800 in 2 weeks. The errors exist but they are obvious (just assume that their answer is wrong if it doesn't match yours).
SO in conclusion the strategies in this book are great and the problems in this book are excellent however, I would recommend only recommend it to a student who is good (650 to 700) in math or else this book will confuse them.
better than nothing.......2006-12-02
so it has a ****load of errors. at least it's better than nothing. and anyone who's smart enough to take the level 2 test should be smart enough to find the errors.
The editors need more help than the students.......2006-10-19
This book's purpose is to be a self-help resource for students who want to prepare for the SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test; however, it looks like the people who really need the self-help are the writers and editors. The book is wrought with errors both in the answers to practice tests, the diagnostic test, and even the explanations the book gives. If I hadn't already written in the book to show work, it would be on its way back to the store.
Avoid It: It's Full of Errors.......2006-09-17
The number of errors in this book was disgraceful, and I recommend that you avoid its use.
I just completed a review of the first sample test taken by my son, and here is just a sampling of the errors we found:
Explanation of Ellipses, at p. 112 gave incorrect algebraic solution of the foci of the ellipse.
Explanation of hyperbolas, also at page 112, gave the incorrect formulae for hyperbolas. This is inexcusable, as the book gives the exact same formulae as for ellipses, i.e., (x/a)^2 + (y/b)^2, rather than the correct formulae which are more like (x/a)^2 - (y/b)^2 (note the "minus" sign, which is critical).
Sample text, question #27 at page 217, there is no correct answer. Correspondingly, the explanation on how to solve question #27, at page 226, is completely wrong.
I don't have the time or inclination to catalog all the errors we encountered. I just want to warn you.
Don't buy the book. It will simply confuse your students, particularly those that are earnest in trying to learn and improve.
Poorly written and useless.......2006-03-04
I was absolutely disgusted after buying this book. I don't think I found a single page without a mistake in it; even the lessons had mistakes that made you actually LEARN equations or concepts wrong. I had used Princeton Review the first time taking the test and scored pretty high, but the next month I wanted to take it again so I used this book. I scored 70 less rather than improving. Even when the book wasn't spouting mathematical errors, it seemed like it was written by someone who had never seen a copy of the test before. After using Princeton Review I went to the test and recognized nearly every type of question. After using MacGraw Hill I went to the test and realized I had been studying random material that was loosely connected to questions I was answering. If you plan on improving or learning properly, DO NOT waste your time or money on this book.

Could Be Worse.......2007-04-14
First off, don't get this book if it's your sole source of Physics and Chemistry. It is not very comprehensive and is a bit off touch in those areas.
Secondly, this book has quite a few more errors than most books. Most annoyingly is it has about 200 unnecessary pages - after every 4-5 page chapter it has a 2-3 page review of the exact information. The questions at the end aren't really that great either.
However, Bio, Orgo and the CD aren't bad so it could be worse.
Best MCAT Prep guide I've come across.......2007-03-29
This is very definitely the most comprehensive, intelligent, detailed MCAT prep. book I've come across so far. I wasn't surprised to see that the publisher is one of the premier medical publisher (remember your McGraw Biology text books from college). Each chapter is complete in itself...you don't have to go hunting for better explanation on vaguely introduced topics; there was such an intelligent organization of topics that you can see that they put a lot of thoughtful planning into this. And the diagrams and tables...I kept gushing about how useful (and how many!) they were.
The topics are all current and up to date. Just compare the book at the bookstore to all other books, and you'll see for yourself. The book speaks for itself!
I've retired the book I was studying from (i.e. K....). My MCAT group discovered that there were hardly any changes from the older editions of this 'K.....' guide...in other words, it covers 1/10th the material that the McGraw covers, and is a poor tool to use for good preparation.
I give this book 5 stars; using it well and preparing thoroughly leaves very little doubt in my mind that I'll do less than well on the exam.
Book Description
The compendium of practice tests for the more than 2 million students who take the ACT
The ACT is America's fastest-growing college entrance exam and is now accepted by virtually every college and university in the country. Among 2005 high school graduates nationwide, more than 40 percent have taken the ACT. McGraw-Hill's 10 ACT Practice Tests is a first-of-its-kind book of intensive test-prep exams, delivering complete preparation for every section of the exam.
Customer Reviews:
Not the real thing.......2007-08-31
I'm a student, as of right now going into my senior year of high school. I've taken the ACT a few times and received a good score, but the scholarship I want for the school that I'm going to requires a score a single point higher than my current best.
To practice and make sure I got the ACT score I needed, I acquired 3 different books, and this was one of them. And I'd have to say, this is definitely the least helpful of those three.
Don't let the claim "as close as you can get to the real thing" fool you. As someone who has seen multiple real ACT tests, I can tell you the feel is completely different, especially the English sections.
Furthermore, there are multiple glaring errors, including grammatical errors in the questions and passages ("J. Dark matter has not effect at all...") as well as in the answer keys. In the first test, an explanation for a question told that using "it's" was incorrect for a possessive pronoun, right underneath bold letters declaring the correct letter choice was the one corresponding to what it had just explained as wrong.
And last, but not least, this book lacks entirely a subscoring key. The real ACT, as well as practice tests in better books, divide questions based on the skills they measure and give a score out of 18 (except the science test). Being able to get your subscores give you a more accurate picture of how well you do and where you need to improve. This book, however, simply tells you to divide your raw score by the number of questions, multiply by 36 and add or subtract a correction factor. This is not helpful in the least.
As advertised, this book does in fact have 10 tests that can be used for practice, but if you've already taken the test and you're really serious about improving your score, this is not the way to go.
Great Investment.......2007-06-27
I bought this for my daughter who is entering 12 th grade. She made what she wanted the FIRST time she took the ACT. Now she can get the scholarship she wanted!
A waste of time..........2007-05-09
I bought this book in order to practice for the ACT, since I found no other books whatsoever that offer that many whole tests. The problem is that the level of the tests in McGraw-Hill's is way below the level of the real ACT. I also practiced using Barron's ACT book and Kaplan's ACT computer program, both had very challenging practice tests, some even harder than the real ACT. If you are abundant in time and want to practice more, get the book, because in any case it's more practice. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time and money; the questions are way too easy than the real thing, and it might misguide you.
A Must Have for ACT Prep!.......2007-03-19
I highly recommend this book to anyone preparing for the ACT! The practice tests are spot on! Thanks to this book, along with others from Mcgraw-Hill, my son will be able to get into the college of his choice! Mcgraw-Hill's ACT prep books are by far the best on the market!

Book Description
"Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skills to do difficult things easily." --Thought for the Day, March 22, 2005, Carolina practice plan
At the start of the 2005 season, the North Carolina Tar Heels were a talented yet dysfunctional team made up of gifted yet unfocused athletes. Head coach Roy Williams had his work cut out for him: to piece the team back together and inspire the players to use their adversity as the surest path to victory. On April 4, 2005, Carolina defeated Illinois in the championship finals. "How else could it have ended?" reflected forward Jawad Williams. "We've been the lowest and now we're the highest."
Led By Their Dreams, a celebration of the Tar Heels' 2005 season, features interviews with the players and coach Roy Williams. It also includes Williams's famous inspirational quotes--his "Thoughts for the Day"--which often foretold something about to happen and always served to push the team toward better teamwork and, ultimately, the NCAA championship.
With full-color photographs throughout, postseason notes, a list of the honors and awards received by standout players, and a CD of the radio call of the championship game, this is the ultimate book for fans to remember the best team of 2005 and its return to glory.
Customer Reviews:
Go Heels!.......2006-03-24
There are two great things about this book. The first being the freshness of the information. When a team wins a championship, the win is almost covered to death so to speak, so I was definately pleasantly suprised when the book contained many stories that I had not yet heard. Secondly, and probably the best thing about the book was the complete Tarheel Sports Network radio broadcast of the Championship game and the post-game press conferences. This book is a must for any Tarheel fan, and the CD is something you will listen to over and over.
If You Love Basketball.......2006-01-30
If you love basketball you are going to enjoy this book. It's a play by play of a championship team, their trials, tribulations, and trophy.
Well done.......2005-12-28
I bought the book just because I am a fan, but I am very pleased with its overall quality. It's a well-made hardcover book with durable sewn binding. Printed on thick, glossy paper, the large color photographs look bright and extremely sharp. The book includes Woody Durham's broadcast on 2 CDs. The book is not organized into game-by-game stories like the News and Observer's book. Instead, it has two main sections. First is a section of essays on various topics like "Workdays in Maui," "Senior Day," and "Two Steps to St. Louis." Second is a section of essays by all five members of the coaching staff and eight of the regular players. The book also includes an essay by Dean Smith, a record of the season, and list of awards and honors.
Great Way To Relive The Championship Season.......2005-10-12
Instead of a game by game retelling, the book is more in story format. It's very well done.

English Composition 2 class at UTSA Textbook.......2005-11-06
I found this book very useful and with an excellent range of topics and readings. Used in WRC 1023 at UTSA. We did not read the entire book, but I found such interesting articles within the book that I ended up reading a large number of additional topics just out of curiousity. This book has a great section on "How to Mark a Book" and a very good section on "The Writing Process". Also includes some famous images from past newspaper articles and magazines.

We never recieved our book, we were told it was out of date, which it isn't. When we tried to contact the seller we got no reply. I have been too busy to check if I was billed or not. Can't you help?
