Fundamentals of Soil Behavior
ASIN: 0471215996 |
Book Description
Geoenvironmental Engineering covers the application of basic geological and hydrological science, including soil and rock mechanics and groundwater hydrology, to any number of different environmental problems.
* Includes end-of-chapter summaries, design examples and worked-out numerical problems, and problem questions.
* Offers thorough coverage of the role of geotechnical engineering in a wide variety of environmental issues.
* Addresses such issues as remediation of in-situ hazardous waste, the monitoring and control of groundwater pollution, and the creation and management of landfills and other above-ground and in-situ waste containment systems.
Book Description
Essential to the understanding of sustainable agriculture, the effect of human activity on soil, and the management of soil and water resources including soil nutrition and other influences, this is a solid reference and learning tool. Non-technical, and easy-to-understand, Soil Science and Management, 4E teaches the essentials of soils from the perspective of farmers, horticulturists, environmentalists, and others who are concerned about how soils work and how they are used most effectively. An emphasis on management and the sustainable use of soils and water resources make it especially relevant to these audiences. Nutrient management, best practices and relevant legal issues and government programs related to soil management make this book a popular addition to the bookshelves of farmers, horticulturists and government agricultural personnel alike.
Customer Reviews:
Textbook.......2006-02-01
I am using this book as a textbook for a Soil Nutrition class. The book is surprisingly interesting considering it is a textbook. It is an excellent reference for soil and soil/plant nutrition questions.
This is an excellent book!.......1997-11-28
What a boring topic, you may think. Who could write a thick book about soil? And who possibly can read it? You may be surprised! If your interest is in the field of landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry, gardening, site engineering e.g. this book will give you a professional knowledge, in a very systematic, approachable way. I will keep Soil Science in my professional library as a reference book.
Book Description
This book uses only simple mathematics and emphasizes applications to explore the nature of soils and how they can influence certain construction operations. An introduction to soil materials is followed by a discussion of soils in the construction contract. Specifications from example contracts influenced by soil materials are discussed, as are the applications of soil behavior principles. For contractors, owners, technicians, lawyers, and engineers in the construction field.
Book Description
Long regarded as the leading book in the field, this volume provides a basic introduction to the biological, chemical, and physical properties affecting soil fertility and plant nutrition. It covers all aspects of nutrient management for profitable crop production, with particular attention to minimizing the environmental impact of soil and fertilizer management. The Sixth Edition has been substantially revised to reflect rapidly advancing knowledge and technologies in both plant nutrition and nutrient management.
Customer Reviews:
This edition has been dumbed down........2007-04-27
This edition is not as advanced or complete as earlier versions. If you did want to explore a the subject more completely you are at a disadvantage with this version, the references to the original work that were at the end of each chapter in previous versions have been removed.
screening of salt tolerant and drought resistant plants.......2000-04-23
This research aimed to screening of salt and drought resistant plant in saudi arabia to evaluate the effect of water of differant salinities and drought (irrigation intervals)on plant growth and performance in a sandy soil

Soil Science Simplified
ASIN: 1888626054 |
Book Description
Healthy soils are key to producing good harvests with minimal pest problems. How to create that balanced soil ecosystem, however, remains a challenge for even the most experienced growers.
Building Soils for Better Crops unlocks the secret of maintaining a diverse ecosystem below ground to foster healthy crops above. Ecological soil management, as detailed by the soil experts who wrote the book, can raise fertility and yields while reducing environmental impacts. The 240-page Building Soils contains detailed information about soil structure and the management practices that affect soils, as well as practical information like how to interpret soil test results.
Some of the soil-building strategies include:
Increasing soil organic matter Using appropriate tillage Incorporating animal manures Making and using composts Integrating cover crops into rotations Reducing erosion Methods to avoid and decrease soil compaction

In Situ Treatment Technology, Second Edition (Geraghty & Miller Environmental Science and Engineering Series)
ASIN: 1566701376 |
Book Description
In many cases, the application of in situ technologies evolved as a necessity from a cost perspective. However, the basic understanding of the mechanisms and theory behind these technologies was treated as a "black box." Although we have seen some tremendous successes in the application of remediation technologies over the past several years, we have also seen many cases in which a technology has been incorrectly or inappropriately applied. In most cases, this misapplication has been the result of a poor understanding of the basic concepts and mechanisms behind the technologies. Without proper understanding, the potential for misapplication of technologies remains a serious economic and technical threat.

Remediation Engineering: Design Concepts.......2000-04-12
"Remediation Engineering: Design Concepts" is one of the few design manuals available to environmental engineers with relation to groundwater and subsurface remediation. The book is limited to proven technologies and has limited guidance on insitu technologies such as water/surfactant/alcohol flooding and oxidant flushing. The overall approach to design of the technologies reviewed is very throughall, and is a good reference to aid any aspiring designer in the remediation engineering field.

Customer Reviews:
Perfectly formatted, easy to read work of gardening art!.......1999-03-25
I went to the library today to see if they had anything new. I've read about every book our small library has which pertains to gardening. Out of the corner of my eye I happened upon "Secrets to Great Soil." It looked interesting; I checked it out. I am now here at amazon.com to purchase this book. I've been organic gardening for 25 years and in all these many years have not found a book which thoroughly lists organic, inorganic, and synthetic fertilizers in a format which is easy to discern. It is easy to read for anyone, regardless the experience. Both novice and advanced gardeners will enjoy this journey of soil science along with the explanation. I am deeply moved by all the work which went into this highly recommended publication.
