Customer Reviews:
Excellent general reference.......2006-12-18
Lake and Pond Management by Steve McComas is an excellent reference for cooperative extension advisors, soil and water conservation district staff, lake association representatives, and other watershed managers. Licensed commercial pesticide applicators who are considering broadening their credentials to the aquatic pest control category would also find this Guidebook a valuable addition to their reference libraries. As a retired university farm advisor and riverfront landowner, I found this book highly educational - and well worth the price.

Lake and Pond Management Guidebook.......2005-08-31
Absolutely the last word in pond or small lake creation and maintenance. For both the amateur and professional landscaper. Well worth the steep price.
The Lake Detective... He Can't Be Stumped! A great GLer.......2004-02-16
This is that guy from AM1500 KSTP... Garage Logic, with Joe Soucheray. He goes by "The Lake Detective", and all he does is lakes, I guess. He's found a great niche in MN, land of 10,000 of 'em. Being a lakeshore owner, I've already used some of his techniques to keep my shore in great shape. The beauty of a lot of his approaches is that the solutions mostly seem pretty low-tech and inexpensive. But that's a good thing. I didn't have to rent expensive equipment to get my shore cleared, and the results have been great.
Color pictures would help, but the black-n-whites do the job, I guess. This $80 book saved me hundreds (maybe thousands) from what I was going to do to 'fix up' my shore... Money well spent!

Customer Reviews:
An excellent textbook !!!.......2004-03-17
Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management is not only a complete and current reference for professionals involved in water distribution systems but also an essential textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses. In fact, what makes this book different is that it contains from basic hydraulic concepts up to the most recent researches and experiences in a comprehensive language.
A practical text for real world practice.......2004-03-10
Haestad Methods has provided an excellent text for practical use by engineers. This text is best used in combination with Haestad Method's WaterCAD Software, but still provides enough to be valuable to any engineer who works with water distribution systems. This book is an improvement over the previous "Water Distribution Modeling" text and effectively replaces it. This book is a very useful resource for any civil engineering office that designs water distribution systems. The WaterCAD software program is also fantastic.
Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management.......2004-03-05
Thank-You Haestad Mdthods for developing such a wonderful program. I use this book as a guide almost everyday.
Great reference for the professionals of water distribution.......2004-03-04
This texttbook, that I recently reviewed, was for me a great experience. This is a must have book for any Civil consultant involved in hydraulics. It is both a guide to water modeling and a practical reference to water distribution operation and management. Thanks Haestad Methods.
The Best "How To" Book on Modeling.......2004-03-03
This reference has given us an edge in satisfying client needs from the simplest capacity study to the most complex model. It has helped make our competent modelers more efficient and the up-and coming modeler function like a pro. Many common questions and problems are anticipated and clearly answered. Because the book so thoroughly covers system management issues, I believe many parts should be required reading for water resources engineers.

Book Description
Water reuse programs worldwide face a number of technical, economic, and regulatory challenges related to the long-term environmental, agronomic, and health impacts of the recycling of reclaimed water. Also, the economic benefit of water reuse in irrigation is difficult to determine, and must be weighed against environmental costs, making the decisions of wastewater engineers, administrators, and planners even more difficult. Water Reuse for Irrigation: Agriculture, Landscapes, and Turf Grass provides guidelines that facilitate the successful planning and operation of water reuse projects. Offering the needed information, analysis, and proven experience for agricultural and landscape irrigation, this volume bridges the gap between fundamental science and relatively uncharted areas of economic, institutional, and liability issues. It delivers a comprehensive synthesis of information recently emerging in both science and in the practice of irrigation with reclaimed water. The book compiles guidelines, recommendations, and codes of best practices from around the world for all types of recycled water uses, and it examines recent concerns about adverse effects on plants, groundwater, and public health.

Engineering Materials 2, Third Edition: An Introduction to Microstructures, Processing and Design
ASIN: 1575040115 |
Book Description
This second edition demonstrates how chemistry influences the design of water treatment plants and how it should influence the design. Historically, water treatment plants have been designed from hydraulic considerations with little regard to chemical aspects. The many chemical reactions used for removal of pollutants from water simply cannot be forced to occur within current designs. This book re-examines this traditional approach in light of today's water quality and treatment. Will current water treatment processes be sufficient to meet future demands or will new processes have to be devised? Chemistry of Water Treatment assesses the chemical and physical efficacies of current processes to meet the demands of the Safe Drinking water Act, providing expert information to persons responsible for the production of potable water into the next century.

Book Description
This book is a collection of state-of-the-art reviews on the global problems of diffuse water pollution from agriculture, which affects the water quality of rivers, lakes, reservoirs and the oceans. It includes chapters on eutrophication, phosphorus, nitrogen, manure, heavy metals, carbon/persistent organic pollutants and soil/siltation problems. The book reflects the opinions of the world's experts in these subjects, and is suitable as a reference book for researchers and advanced level students.
Book Description
Ecological assessments have been conducted for decades; however, many who use ecological assessments fail to carry them out effectively. With a goal of introducing science into the decision-making process, 60 individuals representing government, industry, academia, and nongovernmental organizations from different countries participated in a SETAC Pellston Workshop to address the relationship between ecological assessment and ecological risk assessment and their roles in aquatic resources. A result of that workshop, this book presents guidelines for effectively conducting and communicating ecological assessments. Through successful integration of economic, social, and behavioral perspectives and approaches, ecological assessments can ultimately produce sound decisions to protect and manage our aquatic resources.
Book Description
The author brings you information you need to make intelligent decisions about the safety and treatment of your water. Don't Drink the Water also contains a complete resource guide to assist you in becoming active in one of the most important issues of our time. "This is the most up-to-date and readable work I've seen on the subject of contamination of our drinking water and how to protect yourself from it. Study the advice given in these pages and act on it." Andrew Weil, MD
Customer Reviews:
Some good info, but not enough.......2002-03-25
For the reader who currently knows nothing about water contamination and purification, this is a decent book, since it provides some eye-opening information. However, there are better books out there, depending on what you're looking for.
For specific advice on water contamination and safe water alternatives, including bottled water and home purification, I recommend Colin Ingram's "The Drinking Water Book." It has more information and a better format, including a simple chart that rates the effectiveness of different home purification methods for eliminating different contaminants (something this author didn't include).
If you're looking for something more political, buy "The Sierra Club Guide to Safe Drinking Water." This lists specific steps to improve drinking water on a larger level, including political action and people/agencies to contact. It also includes a list of major U.S. cities and their violations of water purity regulations. Finally, it lists the EPA drinking water standards in an appendix. Of course, it also includes advice on safe water alternatives, but this is not as extensive as the recommendations in The Drinking Water Book (see above).
Very Scary! Excellent Read! A Must for Every Nutritionist.......2000-07-24
I just got finished reading this book in between classes, and all I can say is WOW! Be aware, and beware of your tap water. If these statistics are correct, then the EPA and the U.S. government are not concerned with protecting your right to clean water, and therefore, you must educate yourself in order to protect against degenerative disease.
[ 1991-1992 EPA records showed that the nations water systems committed over 250,000 violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act, affecting more than 100 million Americans - and 10% of those exceeded the MCL (Max Contaminant Level) of the EPA. ]
This book is a great start finding out the truth of the matter. Toxins are everywhere! We all need to learn where they exist and remove them for our own and our childrens sake.
Someday, a high ranking official on TV may review this book, or a similar subject and try and spin these numbers a certain way to make it not sound so bad, but don't be fooled. Statistics seldom lie. Only politicians do. Politicians can come from any field, not just government. Politicians come from industry, medicine, lobby, and big business etc. Be a detective, and look for anything that doesn't make sense.
"The Truth is Obvious, Everything Else is Questionable"
Read this book! It contains vital information........1999-08-17
This book is certainly a very factual and "blunt" book about the seriousness of our domestic water quality. With the coming "Y2K" event on the horizon, I believe Lono A'o's comments are even more appropriate and noteworthy. I have given this book a 5 star and I am giving serious thought to making this book a required reading for all the students in my Environmental Studies class at New England College. That's how serious I believe the issue is.
Very thorough about current water filtration methods.......1998-08-28
If you ever plan on buying a water filter of any kind -- this is the book to read. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I wish it would have given more specific information regarding name brand water filtration systems available and where to get testing information etc.
