Wrong animal on the last page..........2007-08-12
The last thing I want to do is teach my child the wrong farm animals. For those who don't know the white woolly thing, that says 'baa' is a sheep. The author should have known better, there are only five animals in the book.
Best of its kind.......2007-07-09
There are so many touch- the- animal books.
This one stands apart because of the details. It increases vocabulary (on one page it will say "touch," and on another "stroke," for example) and has interesting but not difficult sentence structure. What I like the best, though, is that unlike most animal books the fur is "growing" in the correct direction! Someone actually took the time to make sure the cow's hair grows up the nose instead of down, a small thing yet important.
It's also on very sturdy pages for repeated enjoyment.
good but not soft enough.......2007-05-14
Nice book, but it is a pitty it has hardcover, because it can harm kid's gums.
good pick.......2007-05-12
I love that the book allows my child to feel different parts of the animals. The book is very entertaining as well as educational. I just wish the colors were brighter.
My Fuzzy Farm Babies.......2007-01-09
This book is really cute. My 16 month old grandson loves to touch the fuzzy and furry animals...this book also holds his attention which is a plus!
Book Description
World class klutzoid,, Wally McDoogle, and his buddies, Opera and Wall Street win the Gazillion Dollar Lotto! Everything is great!!! . . .for a total of 1.3 seconds. That's how long before their greed kicks in. Add some bungling bad guys, a break-in to the local zoo (where Wally has lost the ticket), the accidental release of all the animals, a SWAT team or two. . . And you have the usual McDoogle mayhem as our boy blunder leers the dangers of both greed and materialism.

My Life as a Walrus Whoopee Cushion.......2002-03-07
My Life as a Walrus Whoopee Cushion
By: Bill Myers
The comedy/novel, My Life as a Walrus Whoopee Cushion, is about a klutzy kid named Wally who messes up everything. Wally and his two friends, Opera and Wall Street, buy a Lotto ticket that is worth 2.1 gazillion dollars. Through a series of misfortunes, they learn their lesson.
One of my favorite Characters in this book is Opera. He is very dumb, and will do anything for potato chips and classical music; henceforth, the name, Opera. This book teaches that greed can ruin lives. What I like best about the book is how the writer grabs you with things you can relate to. The ending of this book is satisfying and realistic.
Bill Myers' style of writing keeps you engrossed in the book. There are so many funny jokes and things about life you can relate to, you can't put the book down. Bill gives the exact right amount of details, and the vocabulary is intermediate. This book would appeal to 8-13 year-olds because it is easy and fun. I recommend this book for it's hilarious content, and great theme.
I give this book four stars.
A wonderful book!.......1999-07-13
This book, just like any other Wally McDoogle book was wondeful. It used much humor and shows an important moral about greed. The Wally McDoogle books are geared toward twelve and thirteen year- olds, like myself. Any kid would enjoy it!

Book Description
Fans of Gerald Durrell's timeless classic My Family and Other Animals will love this hilarious tale, which finds him as an adult still charmed by his beloved animals. A Zoo in My Luggage begins with an account of Durrell's third trip to the British Cameroons in West Africa, during which he and his wife capture animals to start their own zoo. Returning to England with a few additions to their familyCholmondeley the chimpanzee, Bug-eye the bush baby, and othersthey have nowhere to put them as they haven't yet secured a place for their zoo. Durrell's account of how he manages his menagerie in all sorts of places throughout England while finding a permanent home for the animals provides as much adventure as capturing them. For animal lovers of all ages, A Zoo in My Luggage is the romping true story of the boy who grew up to make a Noah's Ark of his own.
Customer Reviews:
Any book by Gerald Durrell.......2007-01-11
I could not recommend any book more wholeheartedly than I do "A Zoo in my Luggage", along with all books by Gerald Durrell. Young and old will find the information of great interest, the writing style hilarious and entertaining, and the geographic descriptions factual and vivid with local color. I have read all of his books when I was a young mother living in West Africa, and I have ordered these books now for my grandchildren to enjoy.
"Any normal person...would have got the zoo first and the animals next.".......2005-07-13
Naturalist/writer Gerald Durrell, with a writer's eye for unusual detail, a great sense of humor and absurdity, and an unquenchable enthusiasm for finding unique animals, recounts his third animal-collecting trip to the Cameroons in this classic 1960 memoir, recently reprinted. Supplying other people's zoos for many years, Durrell, on this trip, intends to collect specimens for his own zoo, one which will be open to the public and which will become a "self-supporting laboratory" with a captive breeding program to prevent the extinction of these species.
Arriving on the west coast of Cameroon, Durrell uses pidgin to converse with the Africans and refers to all animals as "beef," but he soon acquires many rare animals from the local population. A frightening canoe ride through hippo-infested waters, an attempt to capture a fifteen-foot python, a search for the blue-scalped, bald-headed Picanthartes bird, and the experience of smoking out a hollow tree keep Durrell and his staff energized and excited before they head to the highlands. There, Durrell stays with the charming Fon of Bafut, a elderly king with many wives, and he and Durrell enjoy many long evenings of talk, dance, and whisky. Soon the Fon's compound fills up with hundreds more captive reptiles, birds, and animals, including a half-grown baboon, a five-year-old chimp, and a baby chimp, all of which provide innumerable, often hilarious adventures.
Durrell provides details about the care and feeding of these animals, and he and his staff prove to be very "hands-on" caretakers, often having animals creep into their beds. The logistics of building cages and, eventually, packing them for the trip home, reveal the level of detail necessary to keep these animals healthy and calm so they can survive the trip to England. Upon his return, Durrell then begins the daunting task of trying to find a place to house these rare specimens, a task he neglected ahead of time.
A lively writer with a commitment to conservation and a tremendous sense of fun, Durrell gives the flavor of the whole trip, not just the academic details, providing realism at the same time that he reveals irrepressible humor, much of it directed at himself. His sensitivity to his surroundings, which he conveys through vibrant descriptions, makes the countryside come alive, while his anecdotes about the animals and the people he meets show his interest in expanding his knowledge while fully participating in events around him. Though there is no epilogue to bring the reader up to date on the success of Durrell's zoo or its captive breeding program, this information is readily available at: http://www.durrellwildlife.org/index.cfm?a=11 Mary Whipple
inexplicably charming and quirky.......2003-01-28
Gerald Durrell's books have touched the hearts of naturalists for decades and I admit that I have only become a fan of his in the recent years. I was introduced to his books through my local used bookstore, where I was looking for copies of James Herriot's books that were not offered at my local bookstore, and decided to pick up a few and try them out.
His stories have a incorporated a vivid energy and hilarity into his passionate memoirs of unique nature experiences that will entertain any nature-lover. While some of his scientific practices may now be considered obsolete, we are given a rare glimpse into the love and respect for all things living that has been a core aspect of any naturalist throughout the ages.
I have since bought as many of Durrell's books that I have been able to find, and treasure each and every one of them.
Excellent, the 4th best of his many books, in my opinion.......2002-09-27
Gerald Durrell spent most of his life collecting interesting animal specimens and Durrell is an interesting human specimen himself. His well chronicled life (mostly chronicled by Durrell) begins with the hilarious, and very succesfull, "My family and Other Animals". It is ably followed up with the equally hilarious "Birds, Beasts and Relatives". Both books are full of tales from the Durrell family's years on the Greek Island of Corfu, pre WWII. Little Gerry dives right into the flora and fauna of the island, including its human fauna. I own very few nonfiction books with such a plethora of memorable characters. Now, of course, we get to the volume in question. It is plenty good, and worth multiple readings over years, as is "The Overloaded Ark" and several other books detailing trips to collect animals. A word of warning, don't go nuts and buy all the zillion Durrell titles. Some of them are out of print for a reason and were most likely dashed off by Durrell to finance a collecting trip or two...
If you like nature, laughing, or both, read this book.......2001-05-10
I would seriously recommend this book to anyone on the planet. Do you like nature? Read this. Do you like animals? Read this. Do you like humour? Read this. Are you someone who appreciates a good book? Read this. You will come away knowing lots of interesting facts about obscure animals, have sniggered your head off, and with vibrant images filling your head. This is an autobiography jam-packed with laughs and description.

Whether she's weaving hilarious, sprawling tales while babysitting the terrible tot Alvin, keeping her chubby chum Tubby and his clubhouse cronies in line, or making nice with the friendly ghost she catches reading "People Stories" in her bedroom, Little Lulu is both "Everygirl" and an undeniable one-of-a-kind! Dark Horse Books is proud to present, for the first time ever, the complete run of John Stanley and Irving Tripp's legendary run of classic Marge's Little Lulu comics in convenient, reader-friendly paperback volumes. Critically acclaimed and widely regarded as one of the most classic comics ever published, Little Lulu is an all-ages treasure, with stories funny and fresh enough to stand the test of time.
Customer Reviews:
Dennis the Menace, eat your heart out..........2007-02-06
I recently finished plowing through the collected paperback editions of the classic 1950s "Little Lulu" comics, and wanted to put in my vote... yes! yes! yes! True, it's a little disappointing that the strips are reprinted in black-&-white and not in the original color versions, but the real genius of these works is in the draftsmanship of artists John Stanley and Irving Tripp, and once you get onto their wavelength, even these half-size B&W reprints are a pure delight. They can say so much with such economy -- a single panel of Lulu's unbridled mischief can have you laughing your head off, and here, in this multi-volume collection, you've got a real treasure trove of some of the best graphic-art humor produced in the 20th Century. Great stuff, highly recommended, and major kudos to Dark Horse for making this artwork both available and affordable.
Quite a Bargain!.......2006-12-03
The numbering and publishing order of Dark Horse's "Little Lulu" series is rather confusing. Although "My Dinner with Lulu" was their third release, it is labeled Volume #1 in the series. This is because it reprints the first comic "books" featuring the character; Dell Four Color #74, #97, #110, #115, #120 (published over a two year period, 1945-1946). All 52 pages of content from these five books is included, unfortunately the covers and advertisements are not. And the reprints are black and white, which makes the volumes very affordable if poor substitutes for the original four-color pages.
John Stanley did all the pencils and some of the inking for these five books, in partnership with Irving Tripp. Cartoonist Marge Buell created the characters in 1935 for the Saturday Evening Post and the early comic books had to secure her approval before publication. Judging from the obvious style differences, it is likely that several of Buell's multi-panel one-page SEP stories were included in the comic books and reprinted in this volume.
The 1945-46 drawings are more faithful to Buell's style than later Lulu issues. Note that the characters' mouths are only shown when they are speaking and they have only a single eyebrow line going across their foreheads. Despite this both Buell and Stanley are able to convey an amazing number expressions and emotions.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
First 5 Little Lulu Comics.......2005-05-05
While this is 'volume 3' of Dark Horse Comics' reprint series of Little Lulu, it actual reprints the first 5 of the 10 "Four Color" Little Lulu comics (#74, 97, 110, 115, 120) which were published before Little Lulu got her own title. Hopefully volume 4 of the series will reprint the last 5 of the Four Color issues.

Vibrant Colors.......2006-08-21
This was a cute book. It is not one of my favorite but it had bright colors and fun animal pictures. It seems like they spent all of their time on the illustrations and slapped together the words of the story as an after thought. It is a fun book to pet but a bland book to read.
Great book for babies!.......2005-07-07
I just love this series of books! This one is larger than the others, and my daughter loves feeling the fur of the different animals. This is a great book if your baby is really into textures and animals...very cute!
a touch and DO book.......2001-10-26
I liked this books a lot because besides just feeling textures, the reader is invited to do things, like tickle a giraffe, and scratch a head. Lrage, bright animals span each two-page spread. A good choice for babies & toddlers.

Customer Reviews:
sweet and lovely.......2007-07-22
I love Suzy's Zoo characters - to have them together with beautiful simple prayers for children is wonderful.
I have my own copy and gave one to my 2 year old grandson.
"Thank You, Lord, for making me special and for loving me just the way I am."
That's a prayer we all need.
The sweetest prayer book I have seen yet..........2005-07-26
If you are in search of a very sweet, child-friendly prayer book with gentle language and prayers for all the things children contemplate, this is the one. My daughter has MANY prayer books and after buying this for her birthday, it has fast become a favorite for both of us. First, if you are not familiar with the Suzy's Zoo line, these illustrations are some of the sweetest, most engaging characters ever created. Children readily respond to them (as well as adults!) and you'll find plenty of appealing, soft, and humorous images in this little book.
Apart from the truly enjoyable pictures, the prayers themselves are what spoke to me most. They are written in a children's language in a way that reaches them but does not condescend. Important and meaningful items are beautifully included; for instance, you will find little prayers about mommy and daddy, friends, keep me safe when I play outside, when I'm sad, food, not to be afraid when scared, seasons, toys, thank you for Jesus, for children who don't have as much, school, giving thanks....and more! Just about every prayer topic is on a two page layout that includes the main prayer and then several additional quotes or poems appropriate for all kids. My daughter is only one year old, and she is captivated by this book that I am sure will stay a favorite as she grows older and grasps even more of the meaning. It is a hardcover book with regular paper pages, in case you need to know for little hands. We found this book a truly special addition to our little one's library. Hope you enjoy too!

Customer Reviews:
I love it!.......2006-01-05
It is really a good book for kids. I like the great information about animals in this book.
My Visit To The Zoo.......2003-03-17
This book was very interesting, and I think this is a great book for kids to read. This informational, yet very interting, and fun to read book, tells kids a lot about animals. Even though this does talk a lot about information, I enjoyed it, and I think many other kids will to.
I would recommend this book for children of all ages, because of the information that it sends out, and the way they turn it into a wonderful story. My favorite part of the book, was when they were telling me about all the different kinds of monkeys and all the indangered species. I hope that many children will read this book.
Great message, but not a five star book..........2000-05-10
I appreciate the message that this book sends, in teaching children about endangered species. The book spends most of the content in providing information on the animals in their habitats, yet tries to pass the information off in a story. I think the facts provided are wonderful for children to learn, and the illustrations do help lure the children into asking questions, but overall the book lacks a little in keeping a child's attention. Not quite a five star book, as a result, but very worthwhile information on endangered animals.
