Every young child should be introduced to this story, as great a classic as its predecessor, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This colorful picture book describes a spider's day. Blown onto a farmyard fence, she starts to spin a web. The other animals ask if she wants to play, but in every case "the spider didn't answer. She was very busy spinning her web." The book is touchable: elements including the strands of web are embossed on the pages and you can follow them with your fingertips. But the best thing by far is Carle's familiar, yet still breathtaking skill as an illustrator. Especially in this large 11.5-by-8.5-inch format, his cow, goat, and dog (just to mention three favorites) capture the essence of each animal in a way few artists can hope to approach. (Baby to preschool) --Richard Farr
Book Description
A "very" special package for a much-loved classic! Eric Carle's The Very Busy Spider, in a handsome miniature hardcover edition, comes boxed with a charming plush version of Eric Carle's Spider. Appealing to children of all ages, the plush Spider is from another Eric Carle classic.
Customer Reviews:
Boring and repetitive.......2007-08-13
I love Eric Carle's art and several of his other stories, but this one is really boring and repetitive. There's not enough variety to the images, the spider comes across as a real pill who has no interest in other creatures, and the story line is dull. Skip this and go for the chameleon or caterpillar or polar bear.
Not so great........2007-08-09
Not one of Eric Carle's best. As usual, the illustrations are fabulous, but the story didn't interest our littleone.
Cute Book, But Not Our Favorite Eric Carle Book.......2007-07-08
My 21 month old loves Eric Carle books. She liked this one as well, but like others have mentioned it doesn't seem to hold her attention nearly as well as other Carle books do. Her favorites are "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "The Very Lonely Firefly". The illustrations are as bright and colorful as they are in the other books though and the story is short enough for most toddler's to sit through.
Mom's favorite.......2007-05-06
No gimmicks, lights, or sounds here so it's not as fascinating for my son. I try to jazz it up a little bit with the animal noises and different animal voices which my son seems to enjoy. This is a good one for bedtime.
Very busy spider.......2007-01-19
Perfect for the preschool set. All five of my grandkids love this book. Helps mitigate the "look, a spider...let's kill it" response to bugs.
Book Description
Buzz-Buzz, Busy Bees
makes learning animal sounds simple and fun. Children will love the rhyming story and the fuzzy touch-and-feel bees who buzz by all their barnyard friends. Turn the lat page to activate the sound chip and discover what they've been so busy making!
Customer Reviews:
Lovely book!.......2007-09-25
I have been reading this book for about a couple of months to my 5.5-month-old baby boy. It is one of his favorite books! He loves the colorful animal pictures and especially the velvety feel of the bees. His favorite is the buzzing sound at the end of the book. There is a light sensor on the last page. If there is not enough lighting, the buzzing won't initiate, so sometimes I need to face the page toward the window. My only other complaint is the size of the book, ~7x9 inches. Pictures in each page appeared a bit cramped. Even though it is geared toward ages 3+ year old kids, my baby would benefit greatly from a larger size, 8x12 inches, which is the size of "Five Little Ducklings" by Melanie Gerth.
Fun to Read.......2007-07-22
This is the second copy of this book we have purchased. My son read the first one so much the binding fell apart. When my daughter wanted to read it, we decided to buy a new one. We have never had a problem with the "buzzing" as our battery lasted over 2 years and we never replaced it.
great kids book!.......2007-05-14
My son loves this book - especially the buzzing bees at the end!
FANTASTIC.......2007-05-13
MY GRANDSON'S LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH THAT THEY WORE THE FIRST ONE OUT. MY MIDDLE GRANDSON WOULD NOT SIT STILL FOR 5 MINUTES ONE HE WAS 1 BUT IF YOU PUT THIS BOOK IN FRONT OF HIM HE WOULD SIT THERE FOR 45 MINUTES. THEY LOVE FINDING ALL THE DIFFERENT COLOR BUGS IN THE BOOK. THE FIRST TIME I OPENED IT IT SCARED ME. WHEN YOU GET TO THE END OF THE BOOK IT BUZZES. GREAT BOOK
Buzz-Buzz, Busy Bees: An Animal Sounds Book.......2007-03-12
my teacher red this book in class and i want my mom or dad to get it for me so i can practice making animal sounds at home. i think fuzzy buzzy is funny.

Book Description
Now one of Eric Carle's most popular books is a lift-the-flap book! The horse wants to go for a ride, the cow wants to eat some grass, and the sheep wants to run in the meadowbut where is the very busy spider? You'll have to lift the flap to find out!
Customer Reviews:
It's not a lift the flap book........2007-04-04
I purchased this book because I had read the hard cover and thought a lift the flap version would be interesting. I still really like the story but this is a very poor rendition of a lift the flap format.
Skip it!.......2007-01-18
My toddler loves the board book version of this book so I thought this book would be fun for her. The flaps are awkward and frustrating for a 16 month old. The flaps are so large it's just like turning regular pages, so why have the flaps?

Ideal for babies and preschoolers.......2007-09-28
The entire "Busy" series is engaging and fun for kids and parents alike. A great way to introduce your child to books, nature, language.
Great photos.......2007-03-10
My 18-month-old daughter loves the books. The photos are great, texts are witty. This book is not as funny as Busy Doggies and Busy Kitties but is a wonderful addition to my child's bookcase anyway.
Great farm animal photos.......2007-01-17
What do farm animals do all day? Well, they certainly stay busy, busy, busy! Kind of like the kiddos that will read all about them in Busy Barnyard.
Sixth in Tricycle Press' Busy board book series, Busy Barnyard takes an up close and personal look at farm animals on-location doing what they do best. In lyrical fashion, the author/photographer team perfectly complement one another to catch the essence of barnyard life. This isn't your typical "cows moo" book either. No, instead the animals romp, kiss, scrub and boss--and there is a little humor also with crossing chickens.
I've never met a child that wasn't fascinated with farm animals. This sturdy board book will be a welcome addition to any toddler's library.
Armchair Interviews says: Busy Barnyard is a lively look at farm life for the toddling crowd.
"Busy" Books are the Best!.......2006-10-13
My son, now 2 years old, has loved all the "Busy" books by John Schindel since he was about 18 months old. He especially loves Busy Piggies, Busy Penguins, Busy Doggies and Busy Kitties...goes through them almost daily still. Now he loves Busy Barnyard...the photos are great! Unlike the other books, Busy Barnyard has a wide variety of different animals: cows, chickens, horses, goats, geese, pigs, rabbits, cats and lambs. Fun for both kids and parents!
Book Description
It's a very busy morning on the farm.
Farmer Barnes is away, so Charlie and Pop-Up have lots more chores to do than usual before the school bus arrives. With a little help from Dumpy and his animal pals, Charlie just might make it to school on time!
Dumpy demonstrates the rewards of cooperation in this lively easy-to-read book.

A whimsical, fun set of board books lends to repeat viewing and easy learning.......2006-01-14
Ages 1-3 will find this collection appealing and fun: a boxed set comes with a rope handle carrying case and Velcro closure contains Busy Dog, Hungry Pig, Lost Calf, and Happy Cockerel. A whimsical, fun set of board books lends to repeat viewing and easy learning.
I didn't realize these books were so small--and abridged........2005-09-17
These books don't have the same story as the big ones---even though the original story would have fit---they illustrations are the same and really nice, so my daughter likes to look at them but I don't enjoy reading them to her as much.

My son's favorite book.......2007-08-01
My 2 year old son LOVES this book. We borrowed it from the library months ago and we just have to buy it now. We read it before he naps and goes to bed at night..and he even sleeps with it. He demands his "Mouse Book!!!!" When he gets tired of the characters, we talk about the tractor and the barn. Now, if I could only get it in a soft back so he can sleep with it more comfortably. :-)
night time favorite.......2007-05-03
My daughter loves this book. The illustrations are wonderfully detailed. It is very colorful and has terrific depth and texture. Great for helping to learn animals and their sounds. The story is rhythmic and allows for interaction with your child. One of our favorite activities is finding the small ladybug hiding on each page. This technique is great for young children to appreciate and learn about the importance of illustrations in picture books.
