I am using this book as a textbook for a Soil Nutrition class. The book is surprisingly interesting considering it is a textbook. It is an excellent reference for soil and soil/plant nutrition questions.

What a boring topic, you may think. Who could write a thick book about soil? And who possibly can read it? You may be surprised! If your interest is in the field of landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry, gardening, site engineering e.g. this book will give you a professional knowledge, in a very systematic, approachable way. I will keep Soil Science in my professional library as a reference book.

This is the pionner book that had set grounds to new agricultural methods of soil management. Decades before direct planting and soil conservation became fashionable, Faulkner challenged the multisecular tradition which stated that plowing the soil was mandatory to any farmer. This book was praised by Louis Bromfield (Out of the Earth), when he launched his agricultural revolution at Malabar Farm.

The Best Erosion Information Book Written in Our Time.......2001-03-26

This book provided me with enough information to do a complete science report for my professor. It gives a complete description of soil erosion, and some of the best conservation topics I have ever read. I had to find many many books to do my report (around 29 before I came across this one) but as soon as I got this book I found it had all the information that every other book had, plus more. It had all i needed to complete my report. I recommend this book to anybody who needs information on these topics.

As a student, I used this book in both undergraduate and graduate study. It presented the theory and pratical design of hydrology, erosion/sediment control and various other topics in a straight forward manner. Higher mathematics are only presented in order to explain rationale behind theory. The material presented is the result of years of research by the foremost authorities in sediment & erosion control. The methods and designs are presently state-of-the-art. Furthermore, as an engineer, I find this book an invaluable reference in my library and refer to it on a regular basis.

This is a fairly turse coverage of soil physics that underly hydrology in both saturated and vadose zones. This is not the easiest read available, yet I and many at the U of M trust it as a good reference as we use hydrologic models. The presented theoretical framework extends to transport of chemicals that partition among liquid, gas, and sorbed states in which decay rates and mobility differ. Many books don't.

If you want applied real world situations to illustrate the utility of these concepts or an expensive reference of coefficient values this book will not serve. Aside from typos in 1 or 2 equations, this book has been accurate. My course of study did not get beyond chapter six.
