Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Forrest is a rare precious commodity.......2002-09-02
Steve Forrest is one of the few people I would recommend to both utter astrology novices and advanced astrologgers alike. He writes very intelligently, but can phrase his ideas in very simple, earthy language. It's definitely not for the uptight and prudish.
Make sure you read his "Parable of the beer can."
Illuminating astro-psychological look at life&transformation.......2001-09-05
"Let's go get stoned...or drunk. Or watch television until we're bleary eyed blobs of protoplasm. Or eat, or work, or exercise until no human feelings are left. Or, if our denial mechanisms require the apperance of nobility, fast or meditate or maintain a yogic posture until we achieve the same state. Or read self-help books until we have reduced ourselves to a flurry of concepts and insights dancing around the top three inches of our skulls...
Extinguishing consciousness is easy; generating it is difficult..."
"Pure religion and pure psychology both fail miserably at such junctures. We need something that embraces both. In practice, except among 'fundamentalists' of either category, ministers and psychotherapists often play roles that blur into one another. The same can be said, in my opinion, for any counseling astrologer who's worth a nickel."
"...what do we mean by the word feminine? Easy, just ask Betty Crocker: "'Feminine' means emotional, nurturing, non-linear, creative...the same old traditional stereotyping that truly modern women (and men!) have been battling since long before Beatles roamed the earth...Sometimes, especially among Jungian thinkers, this old notion is dressed up in more sophisticated garb...
"There is in the human psyche a very real syndrome of interrelated, "transrational" qualities. That is a psychological fact. But in my opinion it is past time we stopped poisoning and confusing ourselves by calling them "feminine" and began calling them by their name: LUNAR traits... To be human is to access both the solar and the lunar aspects of our common humanity, and to experience their eternal cross-pollination."
"Where PLUTO lies in the birth chart, we are particularly vulnerable to distortions and navigational errors based on un- processed wounding [life] experiences...if you are pretending to be happy in your job, your friendships, relationships, religion, whatever, a Pluto...event will try to reveal that to you...what if a ...person makes a less than optimal response? The basic Plutonian contract is simple to say: you go to the dark or the dark comes to you..."
"No one has ever been, or can ever expect to be, nurtured perfectly. Parents are only human. Communities are flawed. The Shadow makes itself felt sooner or later in every life...on one hand, there is a temptation to say, "So quit your whining!" But so easily that can generate into denial and avoidance... On the other hand, there is the toxic-psychologist's exhortation that we reduce our lives to a resentful meditation upon our wounds. And given life's richness and brevity, isn't that a foolish waste?"
from Steven Forrest, THE BOOK OF PLUTO
For anyone intuitively saddened and subsequently turned off by the perceived stereotypes and actual limitations of both the disciplines of psychology and astrology, this alchemical book, combining the profound and cleansing essences of both in simple terms, will steer you down a very interesting and enlightening path. We "know" that astrology is much more than the sun signs you read in the newspaper or magazines. We "know", ironically enough, that many of the secular patron saints of many a religious conservative have been well known to use and follow the advice of professional astrologers (Ronald and Nancy Reagan immediately come to mind). But do you really believe that there is something you can be truly taught by this discipline, beyond how popular it can make you among progressive or artistic friends when you bring it up?
If you already do, you will get even more out of this book than you currently would think. Steven Forrest's approach is one that combines some of the essential ideas of modern psychology--Jungian and Freudian--with the metaphysical wisdom of the ancient and modern astrologer (and some of his own silly sense of humor) into a book that teaches you as much about yourself as it does the methods, overarching purpose and intrinsic, trans-cultural social value of this often maligned, millenia-old science/art form. If you have ever felt that the fundamentals of psychological perspectives on the human mind and heart and the astrological perspectives on the human soul are inherently antagonistic (and show themselves to be such when assessing the meaning and imapct of the same events of a human life) THE BOOK OF PLUTO will provide you with the synthesis you need to appreciate--and be healed-by both.
This book is easy to read, and very valuable. I did not find it antagonistic to religion either. I advise people to read his work in tandem with your own astrological chart, and the work of psychologist Alice Miller, to free yourself in ways you did not know you could be freed.
Great work on a difficult planet to understand.......2000-08-13
Steven Forrest's work on Pluto in the natal chart is a truly great work that is also incredibly useful. He introduces the beginning and advanced to the notion of the planet and astrological concepts in the chart. He infuses his own humor, charm and love of humanity throughout the book, which allows you to believe that he is there with you, as a guardian angel, as you are walking through the depths of Hades. This allows the reader to keep looking with an unflinching eye at some touchy and difficult-to-face topics in the beginning. He introduces Pluto by house, sign, and by aspect in separate chapters which are outstandingly clear and profound. He also deals with the transits and progressions . This is a book for people who want more than a cookie-cutter interpretation of their charts; the author asks that you use your imagination and your heart. It's a truly inspirational and illuminating book by a great teacher of psychological astrology, and a book I often keep going back to!

Having read many books on astrology, this book raised my awareness level ten fold. Extraordinary writings, yet written in simple language, revealing an uncommon depth of perception and understanding of the planets and their relationships to one another. I learned more from this book than with my therapist. Truly remarkable.

An insightful and groundbreaking astrological text.......2002-07-28
Jeffrey Wolf Green presents a brilliant survey of Pluto and its function in personal and interpersonal relationships based on his evolutionary theory. This book is basically a philosophical look at the soul's evolution through consecutive lifetimes and Pluto's function in that process. Wolf ponders and suggests factors that cause people to choose their current destiny and "karmic" dilemmas in relationships. The most engaging aspect of this text is that it calls upon the individual to develop awareness of how one attracts and constructs the dilemmas that they are involved in. For that reason, this book suggests a path towards self-empowerment. Wolf's outline of the meaning of Venus and Mars through the twelve astrological signs is the finest on record to date. His approach to understanding these planets is to explore at a very honest and basic level the kinds of sexual expression these planetary energies require for the soul's fulfillment. In his candid approach, he freely discusses issues such as sadomasochism, masturbation, sodomy, etc. and explains them as conditions that manifest when the energies of the planets are expressed in certain evolutionary patterns. By far this is one of the finest astrological texts you could own. It is futuristic, intelligent and even if you do not agree with his philosophy, you have to give him credit for his lucid and well-codified presentation of it. This is an insightful and groundbreaking astrological text that I highly recommend.
Comprehensive Read.......1999-10-23
The sections on Venus and Mars through the signs are worth the price of the book all on their own. I found it to be a very detailed and well researched read. The author takes the time to walk the reader step-by-step through the interpretations and therefore this gives the aspects more relevance. I liked the fact that he did not shy away from the more "base" aspects. He delved into past lives, sado-masochism and sexual aspects with a fine-toothed comb. Another thing I liked was his use of the asteroids. So many "astrologers" write books with no mention of them. Astrology is certainly not a "science" of absolutes. But I take my hat off to the author who researches and incorporates the use of more than just the "usual aspects". Other authors in this field would should take pointers. For those readers who have grown tired of the usual astrology "cookbooks", sun sign generalizations and boring (read sedate) chart profiles, this book and others by this author may well be for you.

Is Pluto a Planet?: A Historical Journey through the Solar System
ASIN: 0521800196 |
Book Description
Exactly what is beyond Pluto? Why, in the last ten years, has the Solar System more than doubled in size? For the first time, in almost two centuries, an entirely new population of planetary objects has been found that may well explain these two questions. This newly discovered realm of minor planets, now known as the "Kuiper Belt," has reconceptualized our understanding of how the Solar System was formed and has finally given ontological explanations for the enigmatic outer planet Pluto. Beyond Pluto is the fascinating story of how a group of theoretical physicists decided that there must be a population of unknown bodies beyond Pluto and how a small band of astronomers set out to find them. Acclaimed scientist John K. Davies recounts how they predicted the existence of these planetary bodies, how they were eventually discovered, and how Pluto was named. In addition, Davies provides biographies of the astronomers who discovered these new worlds and information on the telescopes they used. John K. Davies is a support scientist for the UK Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) atop the dormant volcano Mauna Kea in Hawaii. He holds PhDs in chemistry and astronomy, discovered six comets while teaching at Leicester University in the UK, and was a member of the ISO-CAM team at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has contributed to magazines such as Astronomy, New Scientist, Sky & Telescope, and Space. In 2000, a small main asteroid belt was named Johndavies in recognition of his numerous contributions to astronomy.
Download Description
In the last ten years, the solar system has more than doubled in size. For the first time in almost two centuries an entirely new population of planetary objects has been found. This 'Kuiper Belt' of minor planets beyond Neptune has revolutionised our understanding of how the solar system was formed and has finally explained the origin of the enigmatic outer planet Pluto. This is the fascinating story of how theoretical physicists decided that there must be a population of unknown bodies beyond Neptune and how a small band of astronomers set out to find them. What they discovered was a family of ancient planetesimals whose orbits and physical properties were far more complicated than anyone expected. We follow the story of this discovery, and see how astronomers, theoretical physicists and one incredibly dedicated amateur observer have come together to explore the frozen boundary of the solar system.

Great Stories of the discoveries of Kuiper Belt Objects.......2006-10-19
How is the edge of the solar system look like? Before 1992, most people are not quite sure even the theoretical Kuiper Belt have been proposed, but it's still lack of observational evidence. This book is believed to be the only popular science book that is dedicated on the subject of the edge of solar system. However, reading this book would be a bit difficult for the people without solid astronomical background.
This book address the story of the search of Kuiper Belt Objects(KBOs). Published in 2001, the content is not up to date, as the discovery is everchanging, including the finding of 2003UB313, Eris, that led to the great planetary debate. However, this book put detail discussion on the steps and searches of early attempts and discoveries. Since 1992, the first KBO is discovered, but the story of KBO is seldom appeared on books, thus this is a very important book on the subject.
From Centaurs, work of astronomers, how astronomers search, analysis and follow-up, all these are outlined in the book. The orbital resonance with Neptune, color distribution of KBOs etc. are also included.
This is a great valued book for those who want to know more about the life of a small group of astronomers.
This is what astronomers actually do.......2004-06-25
Television documentaries about astronomers tend to romanticize their work, making it look like a parade of exciting discoveries. This book, about the search for objects beyond the traditional nine planets, gives the reader a much more realistic picture. Davies describes how individual astronomers and small groups work through the laborious processes of searching, analyzing results, and testing theories. There are many obstacles, including scientific rivalries and limited access to observatories. Yet patient work has gradually revealed an enormous, previously undetected realm of icy planetoids, some of which are perturbed into the inner solar system to become comets.
Davies' writing is clear and straightforward, avoiding mathematics and explaining technical terms where necessary. Readers with a serious interest in astronomy will find this book fascinating. Readers whose interest is only marginal may find it too detailed and slow-moving. Though the black and white illustrations are useful, it would have helped to have diagrams showing the scale of this vast realm all the way out to the hypothetical Oort Cloud. Good examples can be found in the June 2004 issue of Sky and Telescope.
This book should really be called "Beyond Neptune".......2002-05-20
I bought this book to get information on the trans-Plutonian objects recently discovered. While there is some material on this (apparently little is actually known), most of the book is about the scientists who discovered these objects and how they did it. If you're looking for a book on how scientists work, this is quite good, but if like me you're looking for a book on the results of that work, you may be disappointed. I feel the title is a misnomer (though probably attention getting), because Pluto and its moon are among the objects discussed! Also, most of the objects orbit between Neptune and Pluto (at least when Pluto is at its average distance), so are really better described as trans-Neptunian than trans-Plutonian. I don't mean to be so negative about the book; it wasn't what I expected, based on the title, but it could be just what you're looking for.
Clear and concise.......2001-11-22
This book is a summary of the (few) things we (think we) know about the objects that orbit beyond Neptune. The author gradually guides the reader through the science of these small icy objects, which existence was suspected almost 50 years before their actual discovery.
Introductory historical and theoretical chapters, covering the period from the discovery of Pluto and the next decades, are followed by more and more discoveries and scientific results, most of them not older than 10 years. From the first Centaurs to the extrasolar dust disks observations, every aspect is clearly explained, and ultimately provides a complete picture of this region of the solar system.
Throughout this chronology, the author explains the science as well as the way this science is actually done, up in the observatories in Hawaii, or in an university office, in front of a computer screen. It is a very honest tribute to the people (the author being one of them) that spend most of their time trying to set-up complex experiments, understand the cryptic data sent back by their high-tech instruments, and then write articles about things they are usually the first to analyze.
This book is short because not much is known yet. But it is fascinating because almost everything we know has been discovered in the last 10 years, and you can expect more in the very near future. In order to get the most of what we be published, this book is the place to start.
And for those, like me, who are interested in the far regions of the solar system, I would recommend this other book about the "King of the Kuiper Belt", Pluto, written by another specialist (Alan Stern): "Pluto and Charon". It's a good complement to this one.
Summary the Latest Findings of the Kuiper Belt Objects.......2001-10-20
In school most of us were taught that the last planet in the solar system is Pluto and there is nothing beyond but the vast emptiness of space. That is, at least until we reach the next star system. However, as the author points out in his book, the latest astronomical findings of the past ten years clearly show that there are many small objects (minor planets) that orbit beyond Pluto, which are also part of our solar system.
The book opens with a chapter devoted to the initial theoretical studies, which attempted to prove the existence of these distant objects years before they could be observed. The next two chapters examine two edge-of-the-solar-system objects, the short-period comets and the Centaurs (small bodies which orbit near Uranus and Neptune). The book then moves on to the long years spend by many astronomers trying to observe one of these objects and then characterize its orbit. Of course, once one was found many others where then discovered. After these sections, the book covers the effort to characterize the physical parameters, such as diameter, albedo, chemical composition, etc., of these objects and how they are formed and reformed (due to collisions with neighboring bodies). The book concludes which a section on future exploration of these objects and a subtle plea from the author to rename the Kuiper Belt after the man who first postulated its existence.
In general, I found this book to be quite interesting, especially the sections on the astronomers who devoted years of their life trying to find these objects. I do feel that some non-technical people may find this book a little overwhelming due to several graphs and the use many technical terms.
Book Description
A Note from the Author
On August 24, 2006, at the 26th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, by a majority vote of only the 424 members present, the IAU (an organization of over 10,000 members) passed a resolution defining "planet" in such a way as to exclude Pluto and established a new class of objects in the solar system to be called "dwarf planets," which was deliberately designed to include Pluto.

With the discovery of 2003 UB313--an outer solar system object thought to be both slightly larger than Pluto and twice as far from the Sun--astronomers have again been thrown into an age-old debate about what is and what is not a planet. One of many sizeable hunks of rock and ice in the Kuiper Belt, 2003 UB313 has resisted easy classification and inspired much controversy over the definition of planethood. But, Pluto itself has been subject to controversy since its discovery in 1930, and questions over its status linger. Is it a planet? What exactly is a planet?
Is Pluto a Planet? tells the story of how the meaning of the word "planet" has changed from antiquity to the present day, as new objects in our solar system have been discovered. In lively, thoroughly accessible prose, David Weintraub provides the historical, philosophical, and astronomical background that allows us to decide for ourselves whether Pluto is indeed a planet.
The number of possible planets has ranged widely over the centuries, from five to seventeen. This book makes sense of it all--from the ancient Greeks' observation that some stars wander while others don't; to Copernicus, who made Earth a planet but rejected the Sun and the Moon; to the discoveries of comets, Uranus, Ceres, the asteroid belt, Neptune, Pluto, centaurs, the Kuiper Belt and 2003 UB313, and extrasolar planets.
Weaving the history of our thinking about planets and cosmology into a single, remarkable story, Is Pluto a Planet? is for all those who seek a fuller understanding of the science surrounding both Pluto and the provocative recent discoveries in our outer solar system.

Greetings from the Four Worlds.......2007-05-14
Dear Puny Third-Object aka Earth Inhabitants,
Here on the Four Worlds, we greet your squabblings with derision. We do not even bother to name the pitiful objects including your insignificant third-object aka Earth home that orbit sunward of Jupiter. If we wished for amusement, we would toss your tiny pebble into Jupiter's red spot to see if it will float. But I digress.
Our scientists have determined that by definition there are four planets in our star system. As every school child knows, these are the Four Worlds, the ones you call Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (Jolly Savants Understand Notation). That you bother to dispute whether Neptune's Dog, the rock you call Pluto, is a planet or not is a laughable matter. Your third-object aka Earth home does not qualify either. It is merely the largest of the Sub-Jovian Clutter.
For an object to be considered for planethood it must have at least thirteen natural moons, a presentable set of rings, and an atmosphere of hydrogen, helium, or methane. If you think that you can meet these minimum requirements, you may contact our Four Worlds Planetary Status Committee for an application form.
Best Regards,
Elzar of Neptune
P.S. Nice book.
Great for Educators..........2007-01-14
As a professional astronomer, one thing I find students of all ages to be extremely interested in is the question of little Pluto's planetary status. Maybe Pluto evokes images of the adorable Disney character or maybe people simply have an affinity for the underdog, for whatever reason the smallest and most remote planet of our solar system holds a special place in the hearts of many school children, even grown up school children. As a result, when Pluto's membership among the ranks of other planets in the solar system was questioned and eventually withdrawn, students of all ages had a very emotional reaction to poor Pluto's demise. David Weintraub, in anticipation of the most recent furor over little Pluto, has compiled an excellent account of the development of our understanding of the solar system. In language accessible to all lay readers, Weintraub recreates the discoveries of a variety of solar system objects, including several of which you have not heard much. Eventually, he turns to the question of Pluto and argues very convincingly that this is indeed a scientific question and should not be answered by a majority vote of the International Astronomical Union. So, if you are a science teacher at any level or are just interested in learning more about the confusion over Pluto, don't think twice about getting this book. In the pages of this book, there is much to be learned about the nature of science, scientific discovery, and what it means to reach a consensus. Oh yeah, there is also an answer to the question...
The Long View.......2006-12-11
"Is Pluto a Planet?" provides valuable historical context for the recent IAU decision to demote Pluto from planet status. The book's main point is that the progress of astronomy has forced several previous mutations in our definition of 'planet'. Several times newly-found objects have been accepted as planets, until it was realized they were just too different and represented a new class of objects. When we first discovered objects circling Jupiter they were first called planets, until it was decided that a planet had to have its own orbit around the sun, and thus these objects were redefined as moons. When we first found asteroids they were first called planets, since they did indeed have their own orbits around the sun, but then it was decided that asteroids were in a class of their own. And when we first found Pluto it was thought to be much larger than it turned out to be, but now it too seems to be much less typical of the other planets than of a new class of smaller bodies on the outskirts of the solar system. The author clearly holds the opinion that Pluto sneaked into planethood through historical accident and didn't deserve it, but he does try to offer the 'pro-Pluto' viewpoint. Readers should be aware that this book was written before the IAU decision and doesn't contain any account of it; for readers seeking a Pluto-specific book the long discussion of our evolving concepts of the solar system may be more than they wanted. But this book is also a unique study in astronomical and intellectual history, showing how people from many times and places have conscientiously tried to deal with the tension between old habits and new information.

Disappointing and Unimaginative.......2004-09-26
Having worked extensively with Liz Greene on the Psychological Astrology series, one might expect Howard Sasportas to have given us an equally compelling study of the transpersonal planets here. Right? Well--No. Sasportas' prose is tedious, uninformative and unimaginative and has what I find to be a strongly materialistic bias. Perhaps its a case of complementarity, with Sasportas playing the dry Freud to Jung's lushness, but there is no mythic imagination or Jungian amplification of symbols here. I finally sold this book, my further searches leading me to far better studies, including R. Tarnas "Prometheus the Awakener" (a superb post-Jungian amplification of Uranus), Liz Greene's own masterpiece, "Astrological Neptune" and her "Outer Planets and Their Cycles" (the latter still excellent after all these years). Jeff Green's work, "Pluto: Evolutionary Journey of the Soul" is also highly regarded. But don't buy this one unless you're looking for a literalist, quasi-Freudian view of psychology with no symbolic interpretations, no amplification and little real psychology.
Brilliant.......2004-01-21
The BEST book on the transits of the outer planets - by far. Indispensable for any astrologer - beginner to expert.
Particularly useful if used in conjunction with a graphic ephemeris as done by WinStar - the astrology program. You can do a 50 year graph of the outer planet movements seeing all activations of 45 degree aspects at a glance. See what happened in the past to predict pretty accurately what will happen in the future - after all time is just a construct!
Don't miss this one!.......2002-12-02
I have gone through 4 or five of the Natal Horoscopes of friends and relatives while consulting this book.. of course, centering on utilizing -and checking it's accuracy and usefulness- via my own Natal chart.
Personal revelations can be -and are- hard won. Anything that encompassess the Natal Chart concerning the Outer planets can be from original spaces, early trauma, overall unconcious behavior and trends, and deep early learning and leanings. The colors of your life, basically. What and where you come from...and move to. Does your direction and the understanding of that -in depth, aid you or harm you? Unconcious behaviour in overall drive..can only lead to harm within one's self and others..as....there is no one at the wheel.
That is not a good thing. One must mind the steering, otherwise one wanders off course; and it's hard to pull out of the ditch. of course..one must be in the ditch.. before they realize they were not paying attention to who, or what was driving! The planets form the road; the shape direction and lean to it...and it is up to you to pay attention to where things are directed to. Just like the song said:" Keep your eyes on the road, and your hands upon the wheel".
It's too bad the learnings of youth teach one nothing of such behaviour..but then again, how can one learn if they never fall off the road? The more times you fall of the road, and get back on..the more you learn to not to do it again. (I've worked hard {seriously!} at becoming an expert at that) I think I can stop hammering myself now...
Of course, finding such a book helps one find inroads to understanding one's own particular flavour of reptitious self- damage. I explained this once to a friend, I used it as a way of expressing to them, hopefully..a way in which they could begin to see how to deal with finding a way into their own depths. Each case is different:
~~~
" One way to look at some aspects of life is: We all have these glass walls we look out from behind, that restrict and control our movement and direction. We usually cannot see the edges or shape or position of these glass walls we live within -they are too huge and too close to us. They are utterly transparent to the one who is contained by them...we cannot even find the edges! Although... we can see those walls within/upon others, and in that moment of interaction...catch a glimpse of the reflection of our own. Tell me what you see in me..."
~~~
Sometimes I hammer people into anger, and get them to actually open their minds. (last resort!) They get angry and blurt something out... and are then mollified and confused, as I sit there and smile...and thank them for having an opinion or viewpoint...because without it, and moments left unspoken, we would get nowhere in life. I want to give them a big hug when they get angry...there...it finally came out..I'm happy now! The 'Moment Of Change' begins...at last!
The basic patterns of our lives that we keep repeating...(wheels within wheels) and when the next or current crisis may come from. Standing to the side for a moment..and learing to look up and down the road...for once. Seeing those patterns of behaviour erupt and repeat within the lives of loved ones, friends and associates. Witnessing the layers of the activity and motions within their existence. Like John Lennon said: " I'm just sittin' here watching the wheels go round and round..I really love to watch them roll...."
This book allows one to gain egress into the understanding of what the outer planetary motion means in the course of one's life..and in early life Natal Chart considerations. It can, and will create many poignant (eureka!), and quite likely difficult moments within the self, and bring one closer to being clear on where (and when!) they come from, and are going to. 'Suffering is the short road to spirt', they say.
The house positions for each planet, in transit (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) are fully and clearly covered. The Transits formed with all planets from Sun to Pluto are covered for each of the three. The psychology and origins (mythological-base truth) of each of the influences of the three Outer Planets are very neatly and nicely covered in a very complete way. There is little left to be misunderstood, or questioned afterwards. What this means is, that it is well stated by the Author what he feels the situations involving (and surrounding) these planets is -and can be.
There is little for you to be lost in, as for questing for an answer that cannot be found. Relatively speaking, the directions for you to find that place within yourself to find -and deal- with your own crisis, is defly and fully laid out. The book will enable you to find answers..which is what the book is all about..and thus, makes the book worth it's weight in gold. Things become clear enough, that you will be able to transpose that to understanding as to what may be occuring for other people, which many here are interested in doing. Ie, Astrologers; budding or otherwise.
Inluded, is a list of suggested further reading, which contains the names of associated texts to chase after and absorb, which can lead to further understanding in areas where one may be stymied within themselves, or to extrapolate that understanding..once again, in the serivce and care of others.
Definitlely worth buying, and is a "Must Have' for anyone dealing with the subject of Astrology. Hard for a person new to Astrology (like me!) to state such, but I believe that this statement will hold true in anyone's analysis of this text.
Great accessible psychological guide to major transits.......2002-03-21
The late Howard Sasportas packed a huge amount of high quality astrological and psychological information into this intelligent, clear and accessible book. It has been one of my constant companions over the last 10 years or so, both in my work as a professional astrologer and in following my own transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
The first section, "The Collaboration with the Inevitable", is an excellent summary of how astrology can be used as a tool for understanding ongoing personal transformation, helping to turn perceived crises into opportunities. Sasportas then moves on to look in great detail and depth at the transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to each planet in the natal chart. A very large number of case histories are dotted throughout the transit interpretations, with a wide range of examples of how each planetary combination can show up in daily life. These possible events are considered in the context of the psychological development of the individual, Sasportas drawing on his extensive knowledge of many fields of psychology, mythology and spirituality.
Much of the astrological material here is similar to other classic transit books such as those by Robert Hand, Betty Lundsted or Stephen Arroyo (who Sasportas acknowledges), but Sasportas has masterfully integrated a huge number of additional psychological and spiritual insights from many sources. The Gods Of Change is a wise and compassionate conribution to modern astrology.
One of our brilliant humanstic astrologers.......2002-02-26
I think we were robbed when Howard passed some years ago, he was a brilliant, self aware and humble astrologer who had a message and got it out to those who loved his work. He is sadly missed. This is the best book on transits out there in my opinion as it takes in the whole not just the day to day things that many transit books take into account. The inner workings of transits from the outer planets. I love this book.

Postcards From Pluto: Fun way to learn solar system facts.......2000-10-22
From the beginning of this comic strip like tale of an outer space journey children are mesmerized by the non-fiction facts in such unique format. The illustrations are wonderful and accurately depict the details in the text. The actual postcards entertain while teaching and contain humorous addressees and addresses. Postcards From Pluto is a great way to introduce the solar system to kids. This book is a great investment, because it will be looked at and read time and time again!

Amazon, Pair This Book Up With "Going Long".......2007-06-13
If Amazon was really on the ball, they would pair this book together with "Going Long," the book about the old AFL - both are entertaining, hilarious at times, and just great reads - you start to see a connection between the leagues in a way, the startup antics, the dubious franchises, and the hilarious happenings. If you are a sports fan or not, you have to get this book - it is hilarious and an absolute joy to read!
A Must Have!!.......2007-04-23
I rank this book right up there with "The Bronx Zoo" and "Thin Ice - A Season in Hell with the NY Rangers." It is a captivating book that is very difficult to put down once you begin reading it. A++++!!!!
This is a great read.......2007-02-27
If you were a fan of the ABA growing up this is the book for you. For some reason I just loved the ABA. To read about the beginning of the league and all the trials and tribulations the league went through is funny. Players I remember as a kid come to life. The Doctor, Lou Dampier, Dan Issel, Artis Gilmore, Laverne Tart. They are all here. The only challenge is that the book is narrated by many former participants and at times it is hard to remember who each person was. However, this is a minor criticism. This was a great book to read and brought back a lot of memories.
The Original Dr. Dunkensteins.......2006-11-18
Before 24-hour sports coverage on cable TV and back in the day when a basketball fan was lucky to get one nationally-televised NBA game per week, there was an upstart league with a flashy basketball, flashier players and paychecks that oftentimes bounced higher than the ball.
Terry Pluto, a long-time sports columnist for the Akron Beacon-Journal, captures the crazy times and legendary personalities on the court and in the front offices in this oral history of the American Basketball Association.
It was a league that hit the NBA where it was most vulnerable; signing players to contracts that were unheard of at the time. For example, Mel Daniels - a number one draft pick in both leagues - opted to play in the ABA and became one of the all-time greats. There were renegades like Rick Barry and the sky-walking dunks of "Dr. J," Julius Erving, arguably the greatest player of his era.
The league went straight to the heart of the NBA for its first commissioner, hiring George Mikan as a means to gain credibility in the eyes of the stodgy national sports media. Larry Brown and Doug Moe were ABA players before becoming pro coaches. And - if nothing else - who could beat franchise names like the New Orleans Buccaneers, Minnesota Muskies, the Spirits of St. Louis and the San Diego Conquistadors (with Wilt Chamberlain as player/coach)?
Though the final few years of operation - with a merger inevitable and the league consolidating its shrinking resources - became an abrupt climax to the ABA, the teams and players that made the jump to the NBA made for a dramatic leap in the quality of the game & it can be argued set the pace for the style and grace of Magic, Michael, Dominique and LeBron.
Can I give it 6 stars?.......2006-01-30
The ABA. Dr. J., McGinnis, Bad News Barnes, Moses and even Wilt! The ABA came along before ESPN, at a time when even the NBA was barely televised. This league was fantastic and Pluto tells a very detailed account of the history and stars of the ABA.
For the sake of nostalgia alone, I loved this book. Where else could I read about Randy Denton and the Memphis Tams/Sounds?
From an historical perspective, this is a great read about a very unappreciated, overlooked league. This is where Dr. J and David Thompson really mastered the art of dunking.
Even from a business or marketing view, this book proves itself to be quite insightful. For instance, the NBA adopted the 3 point shot after the merger, to increase the excitement of the game.
Pluto accomplishes quite a lot in this book, without ever getting boring. Every basketball fan should read this book.

Zen For Your Soul.......2007-06-20
All I can say about this book is WOW!! I stumbled upon Micheal St.Clair by accident (or rather synchronicity) via an online video, and I was instantly hooked and bought the book here. This book will take you on a journey that afterwards you'll be asking yourself whether you are awake, sleep-walking or dreaming... What impressed me about the author was his precociousness as a child and his depth of knowledge to how the universe works. I just don't understand how astrologers do it; however, after reading this book, I realized that Micheal St.Clair is truly gifted beyond belief. If you have pondered, wondered and searched for answers your entire life, then this is one book that will provide the quantum-leap (jump-start) to a higher level of understanding and knowledge.
Knowing Your Truth Is In The Stars.......2007-03-24
St.Clair si most definetly a Magi, and has broken through the veil of duality and illusion...and in his book "Zen Of Stars" he tries to help others in doing the same...besides explaining astrology and earth changes that are happening and that possibly "could" occur....he weaves a most wonderful picture of his life, telling how spirit has always been a part...he also explains where we all come from, which of course is "Cosmos" or the "Stars"....I would recommend this book highly, especially for anyone on a spiritual path, who is looking for answers...the most important one is that they must look within...
Zen Of The Stars.......2007-03-11
This is a must read reference and motivator for those on the path of evolution. Zen of the Stars IS evolution, condensed and expressed so as to sweep up the reader and empower him/her to their own necessary purpose and work. I read it in a day, simply because I could not put it down. I have recommended it to my spiritual posse and we are all quoting lines and reading pages aloud. Watch the video of St. Clair on line! If that doesn't inspire you to get the book, you are sleep walking. It is time to WAKE UP!!!!!

Book Description
Through his ministry, Champions for Life, Bill Glass teaches the healing power of a father's blessing in cities, congregations, prisons and schools across America. His message is simple: a father's blessing can give a child the inspiration, reassurance and confidence to live life to its fullest potential. Glass defines a blessing as a gentle touch, a loving hug and a powerful verbal message of unconditional love. Bill Glass' father was a devout Christian, a father and a hero to Bill as a boy. Bill credits his phenomenal success in life as a professional football player, founder of the ministry, Champions for Life, and his own role as a successful father to his three children to the blessing his father gave him. Champions for Life is Bill's story in which he shares with readers his own wisdom and his tales from raising his children, his father's inspiring parenting stories and the role a blessing can play in one's life. By retelling his experiences as a father and son, Glass shares the wisdom of Christ and brings it into the homes of every family. Nothing is more rewarding to the giver and the receiver than the amazing, affirming results of a blessing. Glass encourages fathers to reach out to their families, sons and daughters with expressions of love and support. In giving a blessing, we are guided toward our destiny and are able to support our children in living theirs. Key Features Foreword from Billy Graham. Glass' ministry visits and teaches approximately 400,000 people a year. To all of these people, he preaches the importance of a blessing. Champions for Life will serve as a companion to this message. Glass' ministry has approximately 3,500 congregations in their network and these will all be contacted during the publicity and marketing of the book.

Great, Experience-Based Advice from a Prison Missionary and Retired NFL Player!.......2006-03-07
This book points out the extreme importance of having a father bless his children throughout their entire lives.
This may seem to be an alien concept in our secular culture, where too often people reject a father figure and act like fathers are optional. It is too "cool" and "trendy" these days to know single mothers who never married the father of their child, but the reality is that it devastates the self-image of the fatherless child.
Bill points out from experience that at all the prisons he witnesses at, it is always very hard, even impossible, to find an inmate who has a good relationship with their real father--they usually curse their father for not being there for them while they were growing up; which is the breeding ground for criminal activities and gang membership which becomes the surrogate family, and blesses the individual for doing criminal acts, instead.
I am a big fan of professional athletes who preach the Gospel, so I am very happy with this great book from Bill Glass!
Bill Glass is a retired NFL football player from the 1960's, who has been heavily involved with his own prison ministry for decades, Champions for Life.
This book is basically Bill Glass writing about the importance of a Father's Blessing in the life of everybody, not just prisoners--everybody needs that affirmation and encouragement from their father (or father figure)!
Not only is the blessing important, but the curse is also discussed. What parents say negatively to or about their kids has a major effect. Bill discusses his personal, accidentally inflicted curse, when he overheard his mother telling someone that Bill was not good looking at all. No parents are perfect, and his mother never even knew that he overheard that remark, but it haunts Bill over 60 years later, throughout his entire life. What your parents say about you really DOES matter, though, hurt people try to shrug it off.
Bill discusses that, too. If a parent refuses to bless, or has died, then you must forgive the parent and seek the blessing from another father figure.
The blessing must always be unconditional. Bill uses his sports experience to contrast between unconditional blessing versus coaching. Coaches are never satisfied, always push for more, and their blessing is dependent upon performance, because the coaches job is on the line, and so is the athlete's job, if winning is not achieved. Coaching is performance based. Parenting and blessing is unconditional, NOT dependent upon a child's performance or achievements. We have to bless our kids just because they are our kids, NOT because they first had to achieve a goal, like a good report card. Belonging to the family is unconditional, but remaining on a sports team is achievement dependent.
Bill is helped by pro sports writer Terry Pluto, but this is essentially the thoughts of Bill Glass, relating anecdotes from his own life, prisoners he has met, and Bible passages. Terry and Bill have been great friends since 1996, when Terry got Saved, after obseving one of Bill's Prison sessions for a writing assignment.
I like this book because you learn a lot about Bill's own life, his football career, and how Bill's parents raised him in a Christian manner. Bill Glass was a player on the championship Cleveland Browns, one season before the first Super Bowl. If the annual Super Bowls has started one year earlier, Bill would have been a winner of the first Super Bowl.
This book is very personable, not technical or clinical. Reading it is like hanging out with a really great, caring Christian fellow who wants to help people by learning from the mistakes of others. This book is full of common sense advice, which is actually not commonly practiced, these days.
Another good book by a Christian and former NFL player is IN THE TRENCHES by Reggie White, an NFL Football Hall of Famer. There is something about being a huge, macho football player that seems to make these Christian athletes more daring and unashamed to use their sports fame to push the message of the Gospel. I love reading books by these pro athlete Christians.
