Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment starts with a detailed explanation of why to consider amalgam illness to be something that some people must have by comparing the well known statistics for how much mercury people absorb from their fillings to the well known statistics of how sensitive different members of a population are to a given toxin. This is for people who really don't know if they believe in amalgam illness or not (the other material available is rather sensational and I can't blame anyone reading it for having questions) before going any further.

Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment discusses how to deal with physicians if you think you have a controversial disease - especially if you have the great "luck" to be covered by a managed care plan.

A key section is devoted to diagnosis - how to tell if you actually have amalgam illness instead of something else. It is also possible to be mercury poisoned from something other than amalgam, and the testing and examination described here is diagnostic regardless of the source.

How to get the dental work done safely if you have decided amalgam fillings are the problem is briefly described - there is a robust industry of amalgam free dentists if you know how to look for them.

The use of drugs and nutritional supplements to get the mercury out of your system is carefully presented - there are some important factors here that are not well described in the previous books on the subject and not all physicians who claim they know what to do actually give good advice.

Then comes what turns out to be the major section of the book - how to treat all the related health conditions amalgam illness can cause so as to relieve them while mercury detoxification proceeds. Since amalgam illness is not widely recognized in the medical community, most people with it get pretty sick before they get motivated to bounce around between doctors and eventually end up in front of one who tells them about it. So most victims have pretty serious, unpleasant health problems (like fibromyalgia or severe allergies) and they really need to make these STOP for the year or two it can take to get fully detoxed and let your body heal.

There are extensive tables of what to use for different conditions, a description of all the drugs and nutritional supplements suggested in the book, and appendices covering things like what the assorted clinical laboratory tests you might get actually mean, what other helpful books are that you might use, and supporting information like what the chelating agents are and how they work.

5 out of 5 stars A Life Saver.......2007-03-31

My wife who is in her 30s, has never smoked, eats a very healthy diet, exercises daily, and in general has a very happy life. She started to have health issues that progressively got worse over the past three years. Things like, loosening teeth, hot flashes, nerve pain, racing heart, heart thumps, panic attack, immune system decline, insomnia, problems with certain foods. In one year alone we racked up thousands of dollors in co-pays and prescriptions. All of the conventional tests, blood tests, x-rays, CAT scans, EKGs the doctors used could not identify the cause. The doctors began to say, "you are young and can't possibly be really sick it must be in your head."

We began to do our own research and noticed that she had a very bad period with many ER visits shortly after having a large old Amalgam removed by her dentist. This is when our research led us to Amalgam Illness. We asked our doctor to test for Mercury. When the blood test came back she was over the limit. We finally had our first real clue to what was causing my wife's health issues. Even though there are millions of people who have Amalgam fillings in their mouth and are suffering various degrees of Amalgam Illness the Dental and Medical communities are not ready or willing to address the issue.

This book however does address the issue in great detail. It is written at a college reading level and so may be challenging to read for some, but it is well written and has excellent content. It in detail expains what the illness is, what the symptoms are, how to help relieve the symptoms, and most importantly how to recover from the illness. The book has greatly improved my wife's quality of life and enabled us to get her on a real path to recovery.

Thank you Dr. Cutler for writing this book! I only wish the government would address this issue. Just imagine how many people have this illness and are being wrongly diagnosed and medicated, not to mention the millions of dollars being wasted.

Sincerely,
Robert Brown

5 out of 5 stars The Book Brought Me Back To Life..........2007-03-21

3 Years ago I was suffering from many of the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. I did not really know what was wrong and I attributed many of the symptoms to stress and the beginning of middle age. I consulted a dr who wanted to put me on hormones, and a naturopathic dr. The ND took a full medical history and informally asked me if I had silver fillings. It turned out I did, I had many of them including one that had broken several years before and was continuing to crack. I could taste metal in my mouth. I then was sent to do a heavy metal test, via a "Challenge" test. I was very shocked when the results came back off the charts. I was rather skeptical that this was the source of my problems so I started to do resarch. I talked to people all over the world including firefighters who had been exposed in 911. I talked to the Department of Ecology in Washington State and the E.P.A. I then found Dr. Cutler's book and a support group for Chelation online via yahoo. I sought out additional medical advice. By this time I was very ill, almost bedridden. It was very horrible because I had been quite well most of my life and took wellness for granted. I considered the possibility that if I continued to feel so sick I wanted to end my life. I first did a detox as recommended by Dr. Cutler while your fillings are in and noticed improvement. I then went and scheduled total filling removal. After the removal I was even more sick. I had taken all the fillings out at once, something that is not recommended. It is better to do it in stages. I followed Dr. Cutler's recommendations for chelation and his protocol and I started to recover. Under the guidance of a naturopath, and an MD(who does not want to be named because of the controversy) I did chelation and natural detox using fir saunas and supplements. I have had a full recovery. I still need to chelate but I do it lightly in the spring with a follow up from ND and MD. I followed Dr. Cutler's recommendations to the letter. His book is very clear cut and concise. I recommend it for anyone who thinks they may have problems due to their amalgams. I am not a researcher but I do have common sense. An element which is very toxic out of our mouths, in fact a hazardous waste...cannot suddenly be safe in our mouths. I was told basically off the record by people at the Department of Ecology that this is "a consumer driven issue." In other words they thought it was a good idea to get mercury out of your head, and not let a dentist ever put mercury fillings in your mouth...but due to this controversy they could not say anything on record. Moreover...if you go to the E.P.A. website you will see they are telling dentists NOT to use amalgam fillings. I also had been overexposed to flouride due to a habit of eating toothpaste while on the way to workouts at the gym and not really spitting it out. I thank Dr. Cutler, Andy very much for his work because I believe it saved my health. I think it is very irresponsible for dentists not to let their patients know about the possible dangers of amalgam fillings. It is true that not everyone is sensitive, and everyone gets different results but we cannot ignore the effects and possible ramifications related to heavy metals being in our bodies. This controversy has been around for a long time. The attitude of some researchers is sort of to say, "well not everyone gets this from their fillings so it must not exist" This is not a very responsible position. Not everyone gets lung cancer from smoking, but we now know there is a definite correlation between cancer and smoking. I thank Dr. Cutler very much. I have purchased several copies of the book and given them away to people who have symptoms. I would recommend this book to anyone who currently has silver fillings and has symptoms or no symptoms. Recently a contractor I had hired took his 4 year old to the dentist. She was given 6 silver fillings and became ill and had spotting indicative of a reaction. I shared the book with him and he had these fillings taken out. I would never let my child get silver fillings now that I know about this research. I was most fortunate that the people I worked with were open, and willing to look at other research including studies from Europe, and the basis of the treatment came from Dr. Cutler because of his experiences and the fact he had evaluated other treatments that can cause harm due to how mercury works in the human body. I recommend this book to everyone who currently has amalgam fillings. For the people who say that it is quackery, I challenge you to consider that this was what people have said about smoking, having lead in paint, pesticides, and anything in the environment where people profit until enough people get sick and or die. It is very irresponsible to take this position. Thank you Dr. Cutler for having the courage to do the work and publish it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource.......2006-06-03

Even though his book could be more organized, I give Dr. Cutler five stars for his content. I have owned the book for over four years and keep referencing it over and over. It outlines a conservative and safe protocol for mercury/heavy metal detoxification.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Information on Mercury Poisoning.......2006-05-16

If you or someone you love has or suspects mercury poisoning, you need this book. Mercury poisoning and amalgam illness are very controversial subjects (at least in the U.S.), and it is often hard to get thorough information on properly diagnosing and treating it. This book is a godsend for those looking for answers.

Some have remarked that this book is too technical and hard to understand. I feel Cutler has tried to explain this complex problem as clearly as possible...however, the fact of the matter is if you do have mercury poisoning, you are going to have to become an expert to have any hope of getting better.

A smiley "feel good" book on fasting and juicing garlic and cilantro may be easier to read and make you feel more secure, but it's not going to solve real mercury poisoning. Your family doctor will most likely ignore you, and even some alternative practitioners may be somewhat confused as to how to handle treatment, potentially causing more harm than good.

Dr Cutler spells out in detail the chelation tests and protocols you need to avoid that make the situation worse. Particularly helpful was the listing of supplements you can use before/during chelation to soften symptoms and side effects. Also essential information on specific details of chelation and testing to gauge how much metal you are excreting (in all cases, my practitioner recommended a different approach, and after I presented the information in the book, the doctor agreed Cutler's method was safer and made more sense).

Had I not found this book, I never would have had the courage and ammunition to take charge of my own treatment. If you are in the same place, and need reliable information, buy this book, read it, find the sections that pertain to you, learn it, know it. If there is information you don't understand, go to the library or get on the Internet and figure it out. A good place to start is learning about Amino Acids, how they function in your body, and which ones are linked to your specific symptoms. A great companion on this subject is Michael Lesser's "The Brain Chemistry Plan". I carry a copy of Lesser and Cutler's books in my backpack at all times.

Thank you Andrew Cutler.

5 out of 5 stars This is it the real deal up close and personal. .......2007-09-14

This is a book by Freddie's personal assisant who lived right along side him. Almost as good as being there yourself. As far as a Freddie a biography this is at the top of the list along with Mercury and Me by Jim Hutton. It's good great pictures too. I highly recommend this book and I like to think of myself as a Freddie connoisseur. Can you ever really get enough Freddie stuff. I think not.

2 out of 5 stars I COULD NOT GIVE THIS BOOK AWAY.......2007-06-13

I do not care how you feel about Freddie or people who lived his lifestyle. THE BOOK IS TERRIBLE AND THE PICTURES ARE A JOKE. I could not even give this book away to the public library!

You can read better and more accurate material for free online. There are many fansites that have reproductions of interviews conducted with Freddie and the other Queen members. A year or so ago, a trade publication dedicated the entire magazine to Queen and I learn new information.

Take my advice and search the web for information and photographs, you will be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars a great account of life with Freddie Mercury.......2007-01-26

Peter Freestone was Freddie Mercury's personal assistant from 1979 until Freddie's death in 1991. In that time, Peter found himself in the midst of many interesting scenarios, many of which are chronicled in his book. Peter's detailed account of the layout of Garden Lodge (Freddie's palatial home in the Kensington section of London) is especially noteworthy. Peter went around the world with Freddie, experienced many tours, witnessed many recording sessions and video shoots, met many people who came and went in Freddie's life, and was even with Freddie during his declining years. One can tell his loyalty to Freddie was steadfast. Even though I favor Jim Hutton's book over all other books written about Freddie Mercury, this one still gets my stamp of approval, and I would still recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Freddie Mercury handbook.......2006-03-20

Most complete biography of Freddie Mercury that I've seen. It really takes you inside Freddie's world. After reading it, I almost felt like I knew him. A must have for any Queen fan.

4 out of 5 stars Good Read.......2006-02-25

I enjoyed reading the life of Freddie Mercury on the stage and in his personal life. He was very generous to those who were close to him.

Avoiding hyperbole while writing about a possible medical catastrophe is no easy task, but David Kirby has created a fine balance of investigative and personal detail in Evidence of Harm. Combining stories from the parents of autistic children with reports, speeches and studies from researchers, pediatricians and government officials, he creates a picture that is as terrifying as anything dreamed up by Hitchcock.

The topic at hand is determining whether high levels of organic mercury present in an inexpensive preservative used in vaccinations can cause either autism or autism-like symptoms. Kirby's in a delicate position, searching for the truth between frantic parents (he focuses on the founders of political action group Safe Mind) and the self-protective pharmaceutical industry (the author thanks the nameless person who placed a pro-Eli Lilly litigation rider into the Homeland Security Act of 2002). He's also honest enough of a reporter to admit to the temptation of deciding mercury is the culprit behind a range of disorders, even in light of some inconclusive test results. The ultimate truth isn't clear, and Kirby is direct about each of the reasons his sources have for their biased opinions.

While some of the straight research reports will likely to go over the head of anyone not well versed in the terminology, the book is never dull--there is a continual urgency in the material that resists pedantry. However undecided the experts, readers will likely land firmly in one angry camp or the other. Jill Lightner

Book Description

In the 1990s reported autism cases among American children began spiking, from about 1 in 10,000 in 1987 to a shocking 1 in 166 today. This trend coincided with the addition of several new shots to the nation's already crowded vaccination schedule, grouped together and given soon after birth or in the early months of infancy. Most of these shots contained a little-known preservative called thimerosal, which includes a quantity of the toxin mercury. Evidence of Harm explores the heated controversy over what many parents, physicians, public officials, and educators have called an "epidemic" of afflicted children. Following several families, David Kirby traces their struggle to understand how and why their once-healthy kids rapidly descended into silence or disturbed behavior, often accompanied by severe physical illness. Alarmed by the levels of mercury in the vaccine schedule, these families sought answers from their doctors, from science, from pharmaceutical companies that manufacture vaccines, and finally from the Center for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration-to no avail. But as they dug deeper, the families also found powerful allies in Congress and in the small community of physicians and researchers who believe that the rise of autism and other disorders is linked to toxic levels of mercury that accumulate in the systems of some children. An important and troubling book, Evidence of Harm reveals both the public and unsung obstacles faced by desperate families who have been opposed by the combined power of the federal government, health agencies, and pharmaceutical giants. From closed meetings of the FDA, CDC, and drug companies, to the mysterious rider inserted into the 2002 Homeland Security Bill that would bar thimerosal litigation, to open hearings held by Congress, this book shows a medical establishment determined to deny "evidence of harm" that might be connected with thimerosal and mercury in vaccines. In the end, as research is beginning to demonstrate, the questions raised by these families have significant implications for all children, and for those entrusted to oversee our national health.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2007-09-08

All of us will be effected to some degree or another by this public health catastrophe. The carnage will continue to unfold as thousands upon thousands of these casualties grow into adult body's. What will become of these kids and how will they cope?
A trusting populace allowed a generation of kids to be poisoned. If only Dwight D Eisenhower would have warned us about the Pharmaceutical companies! This book will convince you to question authority! No shots, No school, No Kidding! Who are these people? Many thanks to David Kirby for exposing the truth about what happened.

5 out of 5 stars Dynamic Reporting on a Neglected Issue.......2007-04-06

This book is required reading for anyone who is concerned about the health of children all over the world. It is a comprehensive story of the crusading efforts of parents whose children were disabled after receiving required immunizations containing thimerosal, a toxic mercury substance. While battling overwhelming barriers imposed by both private and public interests, these parents succeeded to finally gain preventive action, although much irreparable damage has already been done to thousands of children. The research is exhaustive. This is a battle that must continue if we value the health of our children.

5 out of 5 stars A good step forward.......2007-02-24

Thank you Mr.Kirby for being brave enough to write about this subject.
Recognizing vaccines as an important trigger for autism is going to be like recognizing the problem of global warming. we are finally starting to admit that we are causing the problem. So, are vaccines.

1 out of 5 stars Do you believe everything you hear?.......2007-01-21

Anyone can write a book like this claiming to be based on extensive research and fact, but often books like this come out completely biased. Signs of autism usually surface at about 1-2 years of age and at about the time that many vaccines are being given. Medical records have shown that the increase in autism falls several years after the use of thimerosol being stopped, therefore the children in the group of increased incidence were not even born early enough to have received the thimerosol laced vaccines. By the way, that would be medical records in countries not including the U.S., because yes thimerosol is still used in vaccines in the states. Although, research has also shown that the levels of mercury in the vaccines are well within the safety limits. I would hope that anyone getting all riled up over this book would not limit their knowledge of the subject to this one text. If its going to cause you to go on a crusade, please educate yourself completely and not just regergitate the first thing you hear about a subject. It will only lead to more ignorance, which this world is in no need of.

1 out of 5 stars horrible inaccurate misleading book.......2007-01-17

Kirby has so many factual errors in this book that it's scary. He says that Asperger's syndrome is what used to be called "idiot savantism." How anyone could make an error like that is astonishing, it's so far from the truth. He says mercury is the second most toxic substance on earth. it's not, not at all. This book promotes a very narrow and very ugly view of autism and has been very damaging to the lives of autistic people, in my opinion.

1 out of 5 stars hocus pocus.......2007-09-11

You can prove or disprove anything with a little hocus pocus. After 200 years of using silver fillings(mercury) you think the FDA would not allow something if it was harmful--hummmm!!! Wonder how much money he made off this book?
For all the people using these "white" fillings--composites--just to replace silver filling--I wonder what chemicals leak from these polymers? They haven't been in use as long as metal filings.
I'm donating my book to the garbage can.

5 out of 5 stars Very Smart Author.......2007-08-04

Jam packed with extremely helpful information that will challenge what you think about the mercury they're putting into people's teeth everyday, every hour of the day. It's unbelievable that it's legal to put mercury into the human body whatsoever!

5 out of 5 stars You can absolutely beat multiple sclerosis.......2007-07-13

Some (I think about 50 %) can overcome/beat multiple sclerosis (it's just a name which prescribes the symptoms and course) for instance when you get rid of your amalgaam fillings. Don't follow your doctor or so-called specialised neurologist because they really don't know what m.s. is, or the reason you got illness in the first place. They don't care anyway (although they can seem very nice and polite ), they don't know and so on. It's just the medical system ruled by the pharmaceuticals. They rule everything and they just are interested in money. And that's all. So chronical illness must be there, is there and will be there forever. Be your own doctor/specialist. READ. This is a book you must read when you are ill. It can be (like other books) very helpfull, hopefull and interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Controversial Dental Issue.......2006-08-28

In widespread use since the 1820s, the most commonly used dental filling material is a compound made by mixing copper, tin, silver, zinc, and mercury, commonly called "silver amalgam." The American Dental Association claims amalgam is safe, but the author counters that as the filling corrodes, mercury, which constitutes about 50 percent of the filling material, is slowly released from the filling. Mercury has a strong affinity for biological tissue and, released from the filling material, can form methyl mercury in the body. The author explains that sufficient toxic material is released from amalgams to cause emotional disturbances, birth defects, autoimmune diseases, and a host of other ailments whose etiology is considered to be mysterious, or unknown, by conventional medical practitioners and dentists. Gold filling material is preferable to amalgam, but the gold's purity is important because other metals, especially copper which is alloyed with gold to make it sufficiently durable, may create toxicity for some patients. Compounding the problem for dental patients is the fact that most dental manufacturers are reluctant to reveal the contents of their products (most patients never ask), and the Centers for Disease Control avoids the issue by endorsing dentistry as a self-policing profession with high ethical standards which is not responsible to the CDC, but only to itself. This well-written book may provide clues to many people's unexplained health problems. Highly recommended! I'd also recommend "The Complete Book of Dental Remedies" by Flora Parsa Stay, DDS, which is a comprehensive coverage of dental problems and prevention using homeopathy, nutritional supplements, and conventional dental care.

5 out of 5 stars must read if MERCURY is on your mind OR in your head!!.......2005-02-01

we slowly are learning more about the hazzards of MERCURY in our bodies. sure, we now stay away from mercury infested fish--but what about the gov. is not talking about ("truth"-not in their vocaulary) is the mercury in our vaccines--NO they are NOT safe.

we do not know the individual threshold for mercury to throw us overboard. it could be just one vaccination with thimerosal preservative(mercury) that can injure-and don't give me that bs that we can detox mercury-the levels the gov allows are NOT safe for most-much less an infant who cannot rid all toxins to a full extent yet...and some can't detox the poison at all or only to a small extent--so why risk and put it in your bodies in the first place?

the gov will take away a dentists license if one talks about amalgam dangers to health. (ps flouride is not good for you either)

now we know for a FACT--yes a fact! that mercury in children causes AUTISM, also causes allergies-food sensitivities, auto immune diseases, ADHD, ADD.the symptoms list is long...

My amalgams were half out, replaced with composites. and I have another four to go..thought I read enough--I did not. Decided to see if I missed something, I did..there is a lot of info in this book.

I overlooked checking for positive and negative charges in my amalgams, I didn't know about the 7,14,21 day immunity cycle, I didn't know what to look for in my CBC's =which usually come out "normal" for us--check again--Huggins really goes over all this well. I'm going through his book again--AND got his other book "Uninformed Consent" to read before I proceed with the rest of my amalgam replacements.

His book is great. please read-even if you are not getting your amalgams removed-Huggins talks about the decay/corrosion dangers- infections, he talks about why having GOLD fillings and amalgams in the mouth are toxic combo.

if you do decide to get amalgams replaced--please do it with a dentist that does this only--if call a dental office-ask if they place amalgams in the mouth-and if they do-hang up! you do not want to put your health in their hands-amalgam removal MUST be followed by a safe protocol-call DAMS for more amalgam info in addition to this book.

read as much as you can before you stir things up with your amalgams, get them out, the chelate/detox--hundreds of ways to do this..and live a long life-a full one without illness, allergies, memory loss, bad eyesite, ringing in the ears, without ADHD......... --be mercury free--the best to you all!

In 1957, the Russians launched Sputnik and the ensuing space race. Three years later, Gene Kranz left his aircraft testing job to join NASA and champion the American cause. What he found was an embryonic department run by whiz kids (such as himself), sharp engineers and technicians who had to create the Mercury mission rules and procedure from the ground up. As he says, "Since there were no books written on the actual methodology of space flight, we had to write them as we went along."

Kranz was part of the mission control team that, in January 1961, launched a chimpanzee into space and successfully retrieved him, and made Alan Shepard the first American in space in May 1961. Just two months later they launched Gus Grissom for a space orbit, John Glenn orbited Earth three times in February 1962, and in May of 1963 Gordon Cooper completed the final Project Mercury launch with 22 Earth orbits. And through them all, and the many Apollo missions that followed, Gene Kranz was one of the integral inside men--one of those who bore the responsibility for the Apollo 1 tragedy, and the leader of the "tiger team" that saved the Apollo 13 astronauts.

Moviegoers know Gene Kranz through Ed Harris's Oscar-nominated portrayal of him in Apollo 13, but Kranz provides a more detailed insider's perspective in his book Failure Is Not an Option. You see NASA through his eyes, from its primitive days when he first joined up, through the 1993 shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, his last mission control project. His memoir, however, is not high literature. Kranz has many accomplishments and honors to his credit, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but this is his first book, and he's not a polished author. There are, perhaps, more behind-the-scenes details and more paragraphs devoted to what Cape Canaveral looked like than the general public demands. If, however, you have a long-standing fascination with aeronautics, if you watched Apollo 13 and wanted more, Failure Is Not an Option will fill the bill. --Stephanie Gold

Book Description

Gene Kranz was present at the creation of America's manned space program and was a key player in it for three decades. As a flight director in NASA's Mission Control, Kranz witnessed firsthand the making of history. He participated in the space program from the early days of the Mercury program to the last Apollo mission, and beyond. He endured the disastrous first years when rockets blew up and the United States seemed to fall further behind the Soviet Union in the space race. He helped to launch Alan Shepard and John Glenn, then assumed the flight director's role in the Gemini program, which he guided to fruition. With his teammates, he accepted the challenge to carry out President John F. Kennedy's commitment to land a man on the Moon before the end of the 1960s.

Kranz was flight director for both Apollo 11, the mission in which Neil Armstrong fulfilled President Kennedy's pledge, and Apollo 13. He headed the Tiger Team that had to figure out how to bring the three Apollo 13 astronauts safely back to Earth. (In the film Apollo 13, Kranz was played by the actor Ed Harris, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance.)

In Failure Is Not an Option, Gene Kranz recounts these thrilling historic events and offers new information about the famous flights. What appeared as nearly flawless missions to the Moon were, in fact, a series of hair-raising near misses. When the space technology failed, as it sometimes did, the controllers' only recourse was to rely on their skills and those of their teammates. Kranz takes us inside Mission Control and introduces us to some of the whiz kids -- still in their twenties, only a few years out of college -- who had to figure it all out as they went along, creating a great and daring enterprise. He reveals behind-the-scenes details to demonstrate the leadership, discipline, trust, and teamwork that made the space program a success.

Finally, Kranz reflects on what has happened to the space program and offers his own bold suggestions about what we ought to be doing in space now.

This is a fascinating firsthand account written by a veteran mission controller of one of America's greatest achievements.

Download Description

Perhaps best known through Ed Harris's Oscar-nominated portrayal in the film Apollo 13, Gene Kranz was a NASA flight controller throughout the entire manned space program. Kranz witnessed everything from Alan Shepard's and John Glenn's early flights in the Mercury program through the triumph of Neil Armstrong's giant leap for mankind in Apollo 11 and the near-disaster of Apollo 13. Kranz headed the "tiger team" that saved the Apollo 13 astronauts, and he provides new details about the urgent and successful improvising that brought the crew safely back to Earth.

Failure Is Not an Option is a thrilling insider's account of Mission Control from the early years of trying to catch the Russians to the end of the manned space program. It is filled with behind-the-scenes stories, including the painful self-examination that took place following the Apollo 1 disaster and the daring decision to schedule an Apollo flight to the moon before NASA had ever launched a manned rocket beyond earth orbit. Kranz's stories about the dedication and resourcefulness of the astronaut corps and Mission Control teams show how an organization dominated by young people only in their twenties could succeed in one of the boldest missions in human history, placing a man on the moon in less than a decade.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring reading for technical leaders of all kinds.......2007-08-15

While I confess to being a lifelong space buff, this book is the first of many memoirs I have had the pleasure of reading from the actual men and women who participated in one of the greatest adventures in human history. I read it nonstop from the moment I brought it home, and have reread many sections of it numerous times. I believe it is a useful historical record of the golden era of the space program, but also holds many lessons for those who find themselves in formal or de facto positions of technical leadership in all types of organizations - churches, consulting firms, technical contractors, manufacturers, and probably many others with which I am not personally familiar. Thank you Mr. Kranz for all you have shared!

Failure is not an Option

The first time I heard this sentence is when I saw the movie Apollo 13 (Tom Hanks), when I was only 7 years old. I then read the book only when I was 11 years old. Gene Kranz is a great writer as well as a great Flight Director.

The book explains about everything from Mercury, through Gemini, to Apollo in great detail. The book taught me a lot of stuff that I did not know such as that Gemini 7 was before Gemini 6A. The book explains why did it happen and how. It will also explains what they were going to do about it.

The book has 21 pictures and 397 pages of knowledge. I recommend it for everybody

4 out of 5 stars Not a bad book - not a great one either........2007-01-16

"Failure is Not An Option" is not a bad book, but it is not a great one either. Kranz provides certain insight into the role of NASA Flight Directors and the book is interesting to the extent it serves that function. However, Kranz occasionally gives major events fairly short shrift, while writing at length on an array of banal topics which are of limited interest. The reader is often left wanting greater details about events that shaped the space program and less information on subjects such as Kranz's management style or his trademark vests.

Moreover, Kranz's writing style is a little too compact and terse to make this book a consistently engaging read. Kranz uses the word "crisp" in seemingly every other paragraph. His writing style might be described in the same way. Unfortunately, it can make sections of "Failure Is Not An Option" a bit tedious at times.

Lastly, although a small point, Kranz makes no attempt to hide his political bent. The book is replete with praise for Kennedy and obvious (though unarticulated) disdain for Nixon. Kranz speaks with almost boy-like ardor of Kennedy's far-sightedness and vision for the space program despite the fact that many regard Kennedy's interest in space to have arisen solely out of a political desire to beat the Soviets - not for scientific or human advancement as Kranz would have the reader believe. At times, the political commentary proves irritating and distracting and Kranz's idolatry of Kennedy excessive and simplistic.

That said, this book is worth the read for the information it does impart and to supplement other texts on the space program, but it is not as gripping or engaging as "Lost Moon" or a host of others.

5 out of 5 stars BEFORE YOU HAVE DENTAL WORK, READ THIS BOOK.......2007-03-01

Metal in your mouth, fillings, crowns, implants, should be considered carefully. This book will help you to be an informed dental patient. Dentistry is changing radically for the better. Educate yourself.

5 out of 5 stars If you have teeth, you should read this book........2007-02-16

Written in language a common person can understand. Very informative concerning how the teeth are connected to all parts of the body and not just separate pieces of the body. As a novice in learning about whole body health, this book helped me tremendously to understand meridians and the improtance of a healthy mouth.

1 out of 5 stars One Big Conspiracy.......2006-11-16

This is the sort of book for paranoid people addicted to conspiracy theories. They would rather believe a fanciful lie than the mundane truth.

Though I don't agree with most of what's written in this book, I don't regret buying it. It teaches me how to con ignorant people with high tech jargon and conspiracy theories. If people BELIEVE that amalgams or metal restorations are the cause of their headaches, fatigue or whatever symptoms, then removing them will definitely cure them. That's how faith healing works.

The only reason why I don't use amalgam in my practice is because I do cosmetic dentistry. If the patient does not mind the colour, amalgam is definitely a superior direct filling material for Class 2 and subgingival preps. I have absolutely no qualms about having that done for myself.

Toxicity? Sure, some people are affected by amalgams and anything can be toxic to somebody, but let's not forget that these cases are extremely rare (perhaps less than 10 on this planet and most of them would be Chinese). There are literally thousands of tests and studies establishing amalgams as safe filling materials over the last 100 years. There are numerous studies that show how safe amalgams are. If Dr Breiner has been to Asia where we have much healthier diets and lifestyles, he may notice that we also have many healthy 70 to 90-year-old Asian men and women who have gold and amalgam-filled teeth in their mouths.

Are composites totally safe? The incidence of allergic reactions to composites (very low) is higher than that of amalgam toxicity. This is something the author failed to inform us. All his anecdotal evidence are almost laughable as they are not supported by independent studies and sceptical parties. Not one case he mentioned can be conclusively attributed to amalgam. Mercury can be very toxic, but after tituration and amalgamation, the metal remains in the solid state and is not absorbed by the body. It's different from inhaling mercury vapour daily, injecting or ingesting mercury or mercuric compounds.

At the end of the day, propagating such beliefs will only spark panic, paranoia and various psychosomatic "illnesses". Following Breiner's protocols for "detox", patients will only be paying a fortune for otherwise very simple dental work. Gosh, with so many gullible patients in America, I should probably move my practice to America and start doing amalgam detox instead of honing my skills for cutting crowns, bridges and sinking implants.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.......2006-08-23

This book was great, it really enlightened me to the mouth being the entry to the whole body. I will be going to an integrative, whole body dentist next! Definitely worth reading!

5 out of 5 stars Compelling Information about Whole Body Dentistry.......2006-03-10

This was a very informative and well written book about "alternative dentistry". Dr. Breiner explains the differences between traditional and whole body dentistry in easy to understand terms. He gave many examples of the types of health problems which can be related to amalgams, root canals, periodontal work, orthodontics and bridges and partials. He also described the kind of exam and treatment a whole body dentist would use. A great read.

After nearly 300 years, one of the most important alchemical and magical texts of all time has finally been translated into English! "For the modern student of the Western Mystery Traditions, it is impossible to over-estimate the importance of von Welling's work. Its influence can be traced through the doctrines and teachings of a host of European esoteric institutions - even those that helped give birth to the Golden Down and the Modern Occult Revival." - Lon Milo DuQuette In Goethe's immortal play, Faust, the brooding hero reflects upon the vainness of earthly knowledge and education. He opens a book of magic and is transfixed by an illustration of the magical universe. He resolves there and then to become a magician. If you're thinking of buying this you should know something about yourself or are willing to learn something about yourself. Inner exploration though frightening, is absolutely neccissary for ourselves to evolve. There really isnt anything more to know. This isnt a book to just purchase and sit on the shelf, there must be a reason for having an interest in the subject matter, then if you know what Im speaking of this is essential material.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Translation of a Classic in Spiritual Alchemy & Theosophy.......2006-07-13

The tendency to interpret physical change in spiritual terms was part of alchemy from its inception in the ancient world. Beginning in the Middle Ages and well into the 18th century parallels were drawn between alchemical processes and the mysteries of Christianity. The preparation of the philosopher's stone was described in terms of death and resurrection and equated with the death and resurrection of Christ; the constituents of the stone, for example, the salt, sulfur, and mercury of the Paracelsians, were identified with spirit, soul, and body as well as the Trinity. For Georg von Welling the symbols and signs of nature carried deep correspondences with biblical revelation. The religious nature of many alchemical texts makes it difficult at times to distinguish those that describe actual laboratory processes from those employing alchemical language for purely spiritual ends. Nevertheless, there was a clear tendency among "spiritual" alchemists to distinguish themselves from those they disparagingly described as "puffers" or "sooty empirics". The English physician, alchemist, and Rosicrucian sympathizer Robert Fludd dismissed the work of practical alchemists as "chymia vulgaris". Only their imagery and symbolism kept these alchemists in touch with the fire and the furnace.
The upsurge in spiritual alchemy coincided with the breakdown of religious unity during the Reformation. Alchemical symbolism provided an ideal framework for individuals seeking new schemes of salvation both for themselves and the world at large. The books written by Jacob Boehme illustrate how well alchemical symbolism served spiritual and theosophical ends. Boehme's writings fuse alchemical, Paracelsian, hermetic, and kabbalistic themes into a theosophical exhortation to spiritual rebirth.
Much of the spiritual side of western alchemy was rooted in the notion that the world was a battle ground, in which the forces of evil (matter) battled the forces of good (spirit). This idea came from a variety of sources, neoplatonic, kabbalistic, and Christian. Alchemists were sometimes presented as quasi-Gods in their laboratories, as saviors redeeming base matter, equating the philosopher's stone with Christ and identifying themselves with both Although many alchemists were members of the clergy, their ventures into theology affronted a number of orthodox Catholics and Protestants.
Besides writing the book which made him famous Opus Mago-Cabbalisticum et Theosophicum, written in German, von Welling lived an adventurous life, serving as a captain fighting the Turks at Vienna. Briefly appointed a counselor by Frederick I in Berlin, and supervising the salt mines as a metallurgist and mineralogist.
The Opus Mago-Cabbalisticum et Theosophicum seems originally intended to be only about the alchemy of salt, it ended up covering much more. Initially published in 1719, and edited by "S.R." (Sincerus Renatus, a fellow theosopher), the author signed it as Gregorius Anglus Sallwigt. A note in it saya it was finished as early as 1708. This first edition contains only what was to be the first of the three parts of the subsequent versions. The second edition, published in 1729 (after von Welling's death and signed G.A.S), was the first to contain all three parts. Its first part had been edited by S.R. in 1729. The third edition (1735) was later re-edited in 1760 and 1784, and is considered the definitive and complete edition, upon which this Weiser translation is based. It is signed Georg von Welling and edited by C.S.; this stands for Christoph Schutz, a theosopher likewise interested in alchemy. Schütz also wrote the preface and inserted a text of his own on the "Eternal Wisdom".
Nothing is said in the book about either kabbalah or magic. For von Welling, these words are just synonyms for knowledge of Nature and Christian faith, understood in the "gnostic" sense von Welling intends them to have. They serve to designate his purpose of bringing together the "mysteria naturae" and the "mysteria scripturae". For him, Jewish Kabbalah employs 'throughout a misuse of the Divine Names'; but, the other hand, he occasionally praises the Christian Kabbalists. Actually, the Opus Mago-Cabbalisticum et Theosophicum is best understood as a book of spiritual alchemy and Christian theosophy, and for all practical purposes, the terms "kabbala" and "magic" are to be understood here as synonyms of it.
The Opus contains graphic geometrical drawings that have something of a "magical" flavor to them - not surprisingly, since they are meant to convey theosophical notions. Some of these drawings were later reproduced by numerous other authors and added significantly to the fame of the work. These diagrams are photographically reproduced in this edition.
The three parts of the Opus correspond to Paracelsus' "Tria prima", namely salt, sulphur and mercury. The central topics treated are the alchemy of salt, cosmogony, the Lucifer myth, an exegesis of Genesis, and chiliastic/eschatological speculations. Many of the themes of Opus are also borrowed from - Jacob Boehme. First there is the "Urgrund", understood as the ontologically primary reality in and of God, and His creation of the seven Spirits. Furthermore, one finds Boehme's exegesis of the first words of Genesis, the androgyny of Adam, and the myth of the Fall of Lucifer who becomes Satan. Last, but not least, von Welling borrows from Boehme the universalist belief in an "apokatastasis panton": the belief that after the consummation of all things at the end of time, all beings, be they good or evil, will return to God. But unlike Boehme, von Welling does not deal with the theme of the Divine Sophia.
Von Welling offers numerous theosophical interpretations of biblical verses in the light of alchemical concepts. For instance, salt, which is the main term around which most of his speculations revolve, corresponds to Christ; and the process of purification in alchemy is compared to that of Lucifer on the Last Day. This is not a new line of interpretation, since for already over one hundred years, spiritual alchemy - theosophy blended with alchemy - had offered speculations about salt. It was variously and even simultaneously regarded as a substance, a metaphysical principle and a religious metaphor. Von Welling assigns to the three Paracelsian principles (salt, sulphur, mercury) a role that is both celestial and terrestrial. In the wake of such alchemists as Knorr von Rosenroth, and Heinrich Khunrath, Franciscus Mercurius van Helmont, Georg von Welling deals with the "Schamajim", or the original balance between Fire and Water (in Hebrew "Aesch" and "Majim", used here as a symbolic oxymoron). Their separation is due to the Fall. It is more specifically in terms of both cosmology and metallurgy that von Welling is much indebted to F.M. van Helmont's Paradoxal Discourses, concerning the Macrocosm and Microcosm . . . (London 1685; German ed. 1691). Both share the same complex vision of the four elements as related to the planets, and similar cosmosophical views as well. The spirits of the four elements, or "elementals", are the object of a strong interest for von Welling, who deals with them in connection with his exegesis of the creation of the world. The two earlier relevant and important works on nature of the elementals had been Paracelsus' Liber de nymphis, sylphis, pygmaeis et salamandris (written in the 1530s), and Nicolas P.H. Montfaucon de Villars' Le Comte de Gabalis (1670).
Of the theosophical writings of the first half of the century, along with the works of Sincerus Renatus and Hermann Fictuld, the Opus ranks among the more influential. Its reception reached its height in the second half of the 18th century, during which two more editions appeared, in 1760 and 1784. Among the patients to whom the physician Johann Friedrich Metz recommended readings of these kinds was the young Goethe. Metz urged Goethe to immerse himself in von Welling's writings; and in his autobiography, Dichtung and Wahrheit (1811, Book VIII), Goethe even devoted a few pages to the readings that he had made of spiritual alchemical books, and in particular to his personal exegesis of von Welling's Lucifer narrative. There is good evidence that Georg von Welling's Opus was used in Rosicrucian and Masonic lodges in Germany and Russia also later writers on spiritual alchemy often referred to his ideas. Spiritual alchemy proliferated in the 18th century. Alchemical themes and symbols were integrated into Masonic and Roscrucian rituals among such groups as the Asiatic Brethren, the Lodge of the Amis Réunis, the Illumines d'Avignon, and various Rosicrucian orders in Germany. It is good that we have Georg von Welling Opus at last in a vivid and well wrought English translation. To the degree that it quickens our symbolic quest for the true philosophical stone may all those who study it remember Georg von Welling has a biting sense of irony and humor.

5 out of 5 stars From the Editor.......2006-04-14

In Act I of Goethe's Faust, the hero broods alone in his chamber and reflects upon the vainness of earthly knowledge and education. He opens a ponderous book of magic and gazes in almost sensual wonder upon the lines and symbols on a diagram of the Macrocosm. Upon waves of ecstasy he gives voice to the passion that since the dawn of consciousness has consumed the student of the mysteries.

The archetype for the book that fired Goethe's imagination (and in his play initiated Faust's memorable career as magus) was in all likelihood a real book - a book that evoked every mystical clich? of the dramatic imagination; a massive and heavily illuminated work of alchemy, astrology, theology, magic, and cabbala which in 1719 dropped like a living culture into the fertile medium of western syncretic thought; a book that for the remainder of the 18th century would revolutionize the Rosicrucian, Masonic, and Hermetic movements throughout Europe; a book with which Goethe, and the brightest stars in the firmament of European esotericism were intimately familiar - Georg von Welling's Opus Mago-cabbalisticum et Theosophicum.

As important as this work seems to be, it has never been translated into English -- until now.

Meticulously translated by Joseph McVeigh, this is a stunning and highly collectable edition of one of the most important book on alchemy ever written.

3 out of 5 stars Good help .......2007-01-09

This is good good help for a lot of minor fixes and problems. Some instructions are however not very clear.

5 out of 5 stars So far, a good reference..........2006-03-03

Bought this book as a reference to assist with troubleshooting and
making small repairs. I found the book to be well layed out and quite descriptive. It has worked well for me thus far.

3 out of 5 stars not for the beginner.......2006-02-28

Like many Chilton's manuals, these are more for someone with a bit of experience beforehand. If you are not familiar with working on cars in advance, this book might give you just enough information to start screwing stuff up before you end up taking it to a garage anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Chilton has saved me hundreds of dollars.......2004-09-02

Chilton as the the earlier reviewer focuses here on early model Fords. I have the 1.9L 1991 Escort, and the simple step-by-step instructions guide me through the repairs (mostly replacement of worn parts) very well. My mechanic friends all reccomend Chilton.

2 out of 5 stars Misleading Title: almost no info about 1997-1999 models.......1999-05-18

This book is basically the same one published by Chilton that covers Ford Escorts up to about 1995. The title indicates that up to 1999 models are covered. Buyer beware! It does have OK material and photos for earlier 1.8 and 1.9 liter engines. However 2.0 liter engine information is lacking (i.e. late models 1997-1999). For example, jobs on 1.8 and 1.9 liter engines contain instructions and photographs for reference. 2.0 liter engines recieve terse comments and occasionally, crude cartoon drawings that are generally worthless. Adding several pages of new material is less than a revision in this case and does not justify a title change. Look elswhere for late model Ford Escort information.
