Book Description
Thousands of years ago, philosophers and scientists in ancient India devised a system called Ayurveda, or “the science of life,” which explains the nature of everything in the universe. Now, in What’s Your Dosha, Baby?, author Lisa Marie Coffey applies this ancient wisdom to modern-day relationships, offering readers an exciting new way to measure their compatibility with lovers, friends, co-workers, and family, and arming them with the insight they need to make all their relationships work. After determining their personal dosha—one of three personality types based on physical features and personality traits—readers can learn how their dosha interacts with the others, their physical and emotional communication styles, instinctual preferences regarding food, travel, lifestyle, and work, and much more. Perfect for those looking to end the squabbling with their mate, resolve a conflict with their boss, or get the man or woman of their dreams to commit, What’s Your Dosha, Baby? will help readers find true happiness and achieve great success in life, love, and relationships.

Fun Sun Sign Planetary Guide with Bonus!.......2007-04-02
I really enjoy this guide. This is the second year I have bought this duo's guide. I have found that these guys can shut even my most skeptical friends right up! Most of the time I use the book as a retrospective. I read the months past to see if what they predicted had actually happened. There have been times I have looked back on previous month's passages and found them to so accurate I couldn't believe it! I don't use it to help me make major decisions, nor do I live by their every direction, but I do find it very entertaining to read what has or may come into life according to where the stars were when I was born. I also enjoy the bonus currency you earn towards their website goodies, with your book purchase. I will buy the 2008 edition, for sure! Enjoy!
Good stuff.......2007-03-22
I've been following the Jawer/Levine work for many years via their web site, StarIQ, and was already convinced of their prowess. So when their year-ahead guide first hit the shelves in 2006, I was on board. I had been using Susan Miller's year-ahead guide as the definitive one, but then she switched to generating calendars...now I use the Jawer/Levine Astrology Guide for the year in addition to Susan Miller's wall calendar. I have not been disappointed.
These guys know their stuff. Granted, if you're used to Susan Miller there will be an interpretation curve to deal with, but the information is no less well put together. I strongly recommend this year-ahead guide above all others.
It's not Susan Miller.......2007-01-10
The book is OK, I have been buying Susan Miller's but she hasn't put one together for a couple of years now. It's just not as in depth. I did not think that it was worth the rating that others gave it. I didn't see much about traveling times good or bad, etc ... It was a different book, kind of disappointed.
Highly recommended.......2006-12-10
The authors are considered among the best in the astrology biz. Although they excel in the astrological/technical side of things, their writing is most appealing because the layperson can understand it, and especially because their humor and down-to-earth attitudes make it a joy to read! What a fun way to learn. If you ever get a chance to see them in person (lectures, performances, conferences, etc.), please do so -- totally engaging. If you want to be absolutely amazed with a personal horoscope reading that can offer you the opportunity to see and transform your own life in positive ways, try a reading from either Jeff or Rick. I was blown away with the accuracy and very encouraged with the opportunities described in my own chart reading. Believe in "free will"? If you hear it's going to rain, you can choose to take an umbrella. These guys are my first choice for the astro weather report.

A Great Book.......2002-05-18
Very easy to read and understand. Indian Astrology seems to be more accurate in it's predictions than other books. Strongly recomend.
Great read & Info.......2001-06-26
This was a great book to help me understand the Vedic or Indian astrology which I find to be better than the one we typically use in the US.
I highly recommend this book.
Provides excellent charts and accompanying details.......2001-01-17
Use Indian based astrology to uncover the secrets of a Vedic star sign with the aid of this book, which includes spiritual insights from other Indian traditions including yoga. Indian Astrology explains differences between Western astrology and Vedic mysticism and does an excellent job of providing charts and accompanying details illustrating Indian history and spiritual traditions in the realm of astrological research.
Lightweight coffee-table book.......2000-11-14
I bought this book because I enjoyed the author's previous book, "Essentials of Vedic Astrology", a beginner's book which I would recommend without hesitation. This book, however, is a slick, glossy presentation that focuses mainly on the nakshatras (108 of its 144 pages), but is somewhat misleading in that they are equated with western sun signs ONLY, while in "Indian" astrology, the nakshatras are usually applied to the Moon, or the lagna (Ascendant)before the sun. Aside from being appalled that the author would actually present the sun's nakshatra as being the primary determinant of one's personality (this is not done in her previous work), I found the information on the nakshatras themselves fairly good, if limited. Each nakshatra gets 4 pages, and the format for each one is the same: the first page includes the symbol, the meaning and mythology, and a list of other information inlcuding the principal stars, color, ruler, etc. The 2nd page has a picture (1/4 of the page), and 4 short paragraphs -- one each about the ruling deities, the aim, the guna and dosha. The 3rd page's main section is "Characteristics/personality traits" (about 3 paragraphs), and two short sections, "How it links with the western sun sign and ruler" and "Spiritual life path" (one short paragraph each). The 4th page is about relationships and compatibility, including suitable and unsuitable sexual partners. Don't let this be your only book on "Indian astrology" -- or think that its contents are more than a slim, superficial slice of what it's about.
Book Description
For everyone who has looked up at the stars on a clear night and longed to know more about them, here is the perfect introduction and guide to discovering the stars.
Discover the Stars leads you on a tour of all the stars and constellations visible with the naked eye and introduces you to deep-sky objects that can be seen with binoculars or a simple telescope. The tour is conducted by the editor of Astronomy magazine, Richard Berry, whose two-color, computer-plotted sky maps and clear instructions make stargazing fun and productive from your first night out.
The heart of Discover the Stars is two sections of big, beautiful sky maps and charts. The first section features twelve maps that show the entire sky overhead as it appears during each month of the year. These outline all the constellations visible anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, and the accompanying text reveals the rich ancient mythology that surrounds the star groups.
The second section is made up of twenty-three star charts that depict smaller regions of the sky in great detail. These charts give the names of key stars and lead you to fascinating features such as stars with unusual colors, double stars, variable stars, nebulae, and galaxies.
Separate chapters cover basics, such as how the stars move through the sky, how to find your way around the moon and the planets, making an astronomer's flashlight, and choosing and using a telescope -- all in terms that are easy to grasp and remember.
Discover the Stars is the perfect introduction to the heavens, simple enough to be useful if you're just starting out but packed with enough information to keep you learning and enjoying the stars for years to come.

For A Fantastic Tour of the Night Sky........2006-09-18
This manual full of charts and maps of the different regions of the night sky is perhaps a bit dated with so many discoveries now in the outer rim of our universe. It is perfect for a beginning star gazer out in the yard away from lights. Justin and I could never find Halley's Comet because of the street lights in the small town. To look at the sky, it is best to be out on a hill top away from all light.
At the Rochester, New York, Strasenburgh Planetarium, there is a 1968 star projector, a double-headed star ball, one end for the Southern Hemisphere, and the other for the Northern Hemisphere. The ball is full of pinholes patterned after the positions of stars in the night sky with a mercury vapor light from incise the fall to create an accurate map of the stars in total darkness on the rounded ceiling of the dome. It is computer-controlled.
Here, we have the Akima Planetarium which is even older, but fully functional; it has only one star ball which can be changed according to the season showing the different night sky. Mr. Ferguson explains where the known stars are located and gives a history of why and how the constellations got their names all the way back to antiquity. He gives a good show for the children as well as the adults. He always starts with the North Star and goes all the way around the dome with his interesting banter. During the Fair, for ten days, he presented six shows a day in the Discovery Center located adjacent to the Fairgrounds.
If I were to suggest that you 'don't count your chickens before they're hatched' you might take it the wrong way. However, while it's worth reminding you not to go counting your chickens, it's not needed because they're not going to hatch. Those little chicks could well hatch exactly as you want them to. But there is another even better possibility. They may yet hatch in a way you hadn't even thought it that's preferable to the way you had expected. It's a week when anything could happen so allow a little room for the Universe to be creative.
Some years ago, it was my pleasure to visit the Adler Planetarium in Chicago with my astronomer son, Geoffrey. As I recall, the oral program was all pre-recorded and on a much larger range than the Strasenburgh and Akima which are smaller. There's nothing as fascinating as learning (in a fun way) about the planets (poor lost Pluto!), stars and shooting stars in our own universe.
A Great Beginner/Intermediate Reference.......2002-09-30
The biggest plus for this book is the depictions of objects as you can expect to see them in a small (2.4"-3") scope. Try drawing the object once you've located it, then bring the drawing indoors and compare it to what's in the book! Lot's of fun! In this respect it's alot like "Turn Left at Orion". It's got great star charts and accompanying highlights (Messier objects, double stars, etc.) to look for.
After 15 years, it's due for an update.
It needs an index!
If you are new to astronomy, this book will get you hooked........2001-07-22
"Discover the Stars" is written for people with an interest in astronomy but little or no practical experience, yet even the experienced can benefit from this great book. As an example of the latter, I have been practicing amateur astronomy for 5 years, and own 3 telescopes, 2 pairs of binoculars optimized for astronomy, and just a huge pile of astronomy books, star charts and software of various stripes. Despite all this stuff and my several years of experience, I returned to "Discover the Stars" just last night to enhance my stargazing experience.
The best tool for amateur astronomy is one or more working eyeballs--just looking at the sky, memorizing the constellations, and watching them come and go with the seasons. This approach is highly undervalued in conventional astronomy books. Binoculars are a great enhancement to the naked eye for looking at the night sky (e.g., nearly the entire Messier catalogue can be seen with 7x50 or 10x50 binoculars), but nearly all books on deep-sky astronomy describe many, many objects that could never be seen with normal binoculars. Most amateur astronomers end up with 3-4" refractors or 6-8" Newtonians, but to many authors these are "small" telescopes. I have four astronomy books that recommend looking for an object called "Stephen's Quintet," but this simply cannot be seen with anything less than a 12-13" scope. What is a dabbler to do?
Read "Discover the Stars" and find out. The very first chapter tells you to just go out and look at the sky--there is no better advice. A sky map is provided for every month, along with vivid, affectionate descriptions of everything there is to see with your eyes. After a very brief description of equipment (Chapter 2), Richard Berry takes you on an intimate tour of the night sky. The tour is in the form of 23 detailed sky charts. These cover each of the constellations visible in the Northern Hemisphere and discuss many of the objects visible within them. It is noteworthy that this list contains a number of references to objects outside of the Messier catalogue (mostly Caldwell objects, as it happens). He doesn't waste your time trying to find "deep sky gems" where normal people will find none. For example, he describes Fornax as "a miserable little constellation with hardly anything to recommend it." My own experience with telescopes up to 8" in diameter pretty well bear this out. On the other hand, when he suggests you take a look, you really will be able to find it. I have found most of the objects mentioned in the star charts using binoculars or a 3.5" Mak telescope, and every object using an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain or Newtownian.
Don't look to this book to provide detailed descriptions of the objects in the sky charts: there are many, many, many books that do this already, including in particular my favorite tome for more advanced users, "Star-Hopping" by Robert Garfinkle. Don't go to this book looking for detailed advice about telescopes or binoculars: "Star Ware" and "Touring the Universe through Binoculars" by Philip Harrington cover these subjects, as does the uncanny Scopereviews.com and links therein. Richard Berry's other popular book "Build Your Own Telescope" (very, very highly recommended) even tells you how to build the telescope of your dreams. Don't use this book if you need detailed sky maps, or RA/Dec positions for deep sky objects: "Sky Atlas 2000.0" (Tirion and Sinnott), "Uranometria 2000.0 (Tirion, Rappaport and Lovi) are much better sources.
Instead, look to this book to provide the foundation for a pleasant evening spent under the stars. In the end, the proof of a reference is its application: I give "Discover the Stars" to friends who express an interest in astronomy, and they get hooked.
A wonderful single source for the beginning astronomer.......1999-08-08
If you have ever looked up at night and wondered about the stars, this is the book to buy. It not only gives you an overview of the night sky, but also a detailed delving into the stars, galaxies, and nebulae that make up the fascinating and ancient sky.
Berry is an adept teacher, and fills the book with not only the nuts-and-bolts, but the history and humanity of the agless sky. The pronunciation guide alone is worth the purchase price. He also includes sections on chosing a telescope, the moon, and the planets.
Looking into the sky and recognizing what you see is no less liberating than learning to read. This is the perfect reference book for that task.

Customer Reviews:
Not a "workbook" at all!.......2007-03-13
In my opinion, a workbook is something with exercises to fill in and activities. Don't be fooled - this is just a book to read. i have a pretty short attention span, so being that it wasn't what I expected and the pages were yellowed and the type was small I returned it without even reading it.
Room For Improvement.......2005-08-22
This was not exactly what I was seeking in a workbook. It has quite a few excercises, but only a few of them really grabbed me. Many of them felt self evident to me, which would have been fine if she had developed them in more detail. Instead this book was emphatically written in layman's terms, and I felt like each chapter hurried on to the next. While the dream examples are unique, and riveting, I felt the author depended on them too heavily. I would have prefered more general instruction from the author. I am keeping this book in my collection though. Maybe I will come back to it and appreciate it more in the future.
THE BEST DREAM BOOK!!!.......2003-03-02
This is a GREAT book - it helps you to help yourself. It shows all kinds of ideas and all sorts of theories. I got A LOT out of it. I really recommend it above all other dream books!!!
TURNING DREAMS INTO REALITY.......2002-09-21
I've had a lot of success using the techniques prescribed by Jill Morris in The Dream Workbook. She obviously has researched her subject thoroughly, presenting theories from sources as diverse as Jung and the Senoi aborigines, in a highly readable way. As a dream analyst herself, Jill Morris speaks with authority.
The ultimate Dream workbook.......2002-07-11
Want to learn your own personal dream symbolism? This book will teach you how to get the most from your own dreams not someone elses'. This is a great guide to personal insights into who you are and how you process your own experiences through dreams. This is a great Dream Workbook.
Book Description
This fascinating narrative recounts the history of astronomy and, with more than 100 full-color illustrations, it shows readers how to find the planets and constellations in the night sky. In ancient times, people thought that the Sun, Moon, and stars were gods. They recorded their movements and imagined that the stars made pictures in the sky. The Greeks and the Romans related these "pictures" of animals and menor constellationsto their legends. They also identified planets and named them for their godsVenus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. Their observations marked the first step in the development of astronomy, which today is a sophisticated science. Modern astronomers have followed the tradition of naming heavenly bodies after ancient gods. For instance, the solar system's outer planets weren't identified until after the telescope's invention, but with their discoveries they were named after Uranus, a Greek god of the sky . . . Neptune, the Roman god of the sea . . . and Pluto, the Roman god of the underworld. The author recounts the legends connected with many constellations, including Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, Orion, and others. This beautifully illustrated book helps readers navigate their way around the night sky as they learn the significance of heavenly bodies' names. Color photos and illustrations throughout.

Customer Reviews:
Step-by-step guide for young women in search of spirituality.......2004-05-25
Gwinevere Rain, author of SpellCraft for Teens, has recently come out with her second book, Moonbeams & Shooting Stars. Moonbeams aims to aid in the spiritual growth of teen girls like Rain herself and successfully hits the mark.
Loosely based on neo-pagan thought, this book also incorporates beliefs from a few of the other major religions in attempts to make it non-denominational, and while it doesn't quite succeed in that, it does provide an excellent frame for young women to explore their inner selves.
Rain encourages one to 'look to your soul, and build up the internal power you already possess. Then, use that amazing energy to aid others' (pg 8). Though she also suggests that "you try and stay away from pushing your beliefs on other people. There are other ways to help without bringing intense political or religious beliefs into the picture" (pg 16-17), providing a positive, but tempered message.
She offers inspiring suggestions regarding acknowledging one's fears, setting goals, and using visualization to see oneself taking the steps needed to achieve them. Rain also discusses the value of prayer, identifying with goddesses, and how to seek the aid and comfort of guardian angels.
Perhaps the most useful aspect of this little book are the journal exercises with lined pages to be used to explore the inner mind, accompanied by Rain's personal anecdotes. Of course, there are also numerous simple rituals and meditations, with a section on simple ritual construction toward the end.
Rain has provided a step-by-step guide for young women in search of their inner selves which is simple, yet sweet. Suitable for teens just beginning to explore their spirituality, but perhaps a bit light for those with more serious study in mind.
A starting place.......2004-04-29
This little book focuses on Teens and their connection to spirituality and the Goddess. It is a step by step guide to finding inner spirituality.
Ms. Rain's focus is on the female teen, offering a spiritual journey filled with personal empowerment as an alternative to the usual distractions of the teen years. The suggestion is to start young working on personal spirituality, enabling you to grow better and happier. She discusses some of the obstacles that many teens encounter, discusses her own personal experiences and has room in the book for personal journaling as you deal with events in your life.
I liked the layout, the progression of the book. The chapters deal with self, the Goddess, listening to the Goddess and finding your own personal power, exploring your points of hurt and finding healing within. There is a chapter that explores your own hopes and desires and how to set your own personal goals.
I had some trouble with her 'Angels' chapter. There are many religions that have 'angels' in their makeup, but to suggest that bodhisattvas, Orishas or Taoist Immortals are angels or angel like beings shows much Silver Ravenwolf influence and should have been left out. Bodhisattvas, Orishas and Taoist Immortals are Their own Beings, and should not be forced into someone's definition to accommodate a personal idea or writers need. Angels are angels in their own context and the religions they apply to and should not be included in someone else's pantheon for the sake of 'inclusiveness'.
Native American beliefs should not have been included either, as they too are a path unto themselves.
Ms Rain seems to have tried to include all paths, but reading the previous chapters, the material first appears Wiccan in nature but then shifts towards general pagan religious beliefs. She discusses Christianity and Judaism and Islam beliefs and then tries to include everything else. It becomes confusing as to what spirituality Ms. Rain was trying to focus on. If it was supposed to be a general spirituality, then Angels should not have been included or at least confined to their own origins and that would have eliminated much of the confusion and misinformation.
The balance of the material is good; it works well, and can be an excellent beginning for the teen girl who is looking to connect with spirituality and the Goddess and foster personal empowerment. The journaling is a good idea and works well with the material presented here. Nice book if you can overlook the youthful enthusiasm to be all inclusive on a Goddess path. boudica
Empowering, Eye-Opening, Must Read!.......2004-04-08
Moonbeams & Shooting Stars: Discover Inner Strength and Live a Happier More Spiritual Life is Gwinevere Rain's second book. Beautiful black and white photographs and mystical star images scatter across the pages setting an enchanting tone. Author Gwinevere Rain captures the readers attention at the very first page and takes us along on an eye opening spiritual journey.
Created for teen females of every religion, this book is truly a first of it's kind. Throughout these chapters Gwinevere aids young females in reclaiming their inner feminine power;
1. Dance Upon a Moonbeam: Embrace Your Soul
2. Welcome Change: Moon Wisdom and Phases
3. The Goddess Speaks: Ancient Power
4. Heal and Forgive: Life Issues
5.Catch a Shooting Star: Wishes, Hopes and Dreams
6. Angels by Your Side: Celestial Guidance
7. Create Positive Rituals: Acknowledge Inner Strength
Journal exercises and lined pages serve a duel purpose; to break up the text and inspire reader interaction. With deep profound advice, personal stories and words of true empowerment it's hard to believe that the author penned Moonbeams at the wisdom-filled age of eighteen. Her tone is consistent, supportive and sisterly proving that no young women is alone; we all have a Goddess inside.
An experience not to be forgotten, Moonbeams & Shooting Stars is a must read!
Book Description
1816. This work is an attempt to investigate the present state and circumstances of the Hebrew people, to examine into their general history, in as concise a manner as may answer the author's general plan, and to inquire after the ten tribes, which formerly constituted the kingdom of Israel, that now appear to be lost from the earth. Mr. Boudinot does not solve all the difficulties or answer all the objections that attend this investigation.

An Essential Book for those interested in Mormonism.......2007-05-25
Elias Boudinot's book, published in 1816, can be seen as a precursor to the Book of Mormon (1830). Boudinot used James Adair's "History of the American Indians" (1775) and other writers to argue that the Indians were descended from the ancient Hebrews.
The very title of Boudinot's book is revealing: "A Star in the West; or, A Humble Attempt to Discover the Long Lost Ten Tribes of Israel, prepartory to their return to their beloved city, Jersusalem." Boudinot also quotes long passages from the Book of Isaiah to argue his case" (p. 45).
Boudinot also expresses the last-days millenialism of the time--"The true church of christ ought to be invisible as a community for a period of twelve hundred and sixty years...(p. 312).s
It is interesting how the theory of the Jewish origin of the American Indians grew with each author citing previous authors--Boudinot cites Adair and others, Ethan Smith in "View of the Hebrews" (1823 and 1825), then cited Boudinot's 1816 book.
From the non-Mormon point of view, this process continued in religious books quoting Isaiah until Joseph Smith took his own spin on this theory in the Book of Mormon.
