Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-10-09

I think Eclipse may have been the best book yet, well other than the original. I think it was so awesome the way Stephanie Meyer's introduced the complexer stages of Edward and Bella's relationship. I thought in the first two books that it was a little to sappy. Also it was easy to believe that Bella's feelings for Edward were just a school girl's obsession with a really hot boy. In this book she actually had to choose between two equally great boys. I personally am way excited that she chose the one she did. I can't wait for the fourth book. I hope Bella really does go through with becoming a vampire. She's a unique human and should make a unique and fabulous vampire. Stephanie Meyer's has a great imagination and I can't wait to read her other stories, but personally I don't think I can handle the suspense of waiting for another book to come out about Edward and Bella. Hopefully the fourth will help wrap up their story. Though I would like to learn more about Alice and Jasper and the other characters. How they got their beginnings and their relationships. Great book and well worth the time and money spent. Every moment was enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Best Book I Ever Read.......2007-10-08

This book is better than Harry Potter (I know, it's blasphemy). If you like the HP series, you will LOVE these books! Read them, ASAP.

5 out of 5 stars Loved The Series.......2007-10-08

Other reviews explain the plot, so I will just say that I am 28 years old, but I fell in love with this series about vampires, werewolves and of course love. The characters are so likeable and some of the parts are so suspenseful I had to restrain myself from skipping ahead to see what happens! I can't wait until the next book comes out. Highly recommended series!

4 out of 5 stars I LOVE EDWARD!!!!.......2007-10-07

Eclipse as you know is the 3rd book in the Twilight series and it isn't as captivating or as satisfing as New Moon or Twilight. Yet it was still a good book.I must say you are shocked and furustrated and angry from nearly half way through till the end.The way it was wriiten was a tad jummbled, confusing, and i think Stephine Meyer was distracted when writing Eclipse( no offence intended). But i still read it to see what happens between the magnificent Edward and the lovley Bella. It shocked me.It is still a good book so buy it, borrow it , whatever read it!cause if you dont youll be majorly confused in the 4th book!!!! =]

5 out of 5 stars Amazing finale to the series - everything I hoped for!.......2007-10-07

I absolutely loved this fast-moving finale to the series! Edward is back, going to high school with Bella and making plans for graduation.

In the last book, the Volturi, a powerful vampire group in Italy, has given the Cullens an ultimatum, since non-vampires are not allowed to have knowledge of vampires: make Bella into a vampire, or they will come and kill her. Edward is highly resistant to making Bella a vampire, believing that her soul will be destroyed and she will be damned for eternity if he changes her.

So with the threat of the Volturi hanging over their heads, news of a vampire army committing mass murders in Seattle chills them - the last thing they want is the Volturi coming to their area to check things out. As they prepare for battle, they find they must make some unlikely allies, and some unwanted compromises.

Bella, for her part, loves Edward deeply and is so relieved and happy to have him by her side again. But the time with Jacob isn't erased that easily - she still has feelings for her friend, even if they aren't the romantic feelings Jake wishes for, she can't cut him out of her life, and there is an internal struggle between two young men, and two life-paths. Stay human and stay with Jake, or become a vampire, give up everything, and stay with Edward? Both paths or equally difficult to consider.

This is a thrilling finale to the trilogy, and I read it in one sitting - I simply could not put it down. Highly recommended.

Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars okay, but not great.......2007-07-29

There are four stories in this anthology and I liked two of them and didn't care for the other two. Out of the the two I liked only 1 of them was really that enjoyable a read.

The first story is by Jo Beverly and frankly it was really, really disturbing. Basically the heroine is a virgin sacrifice for a dragon that comes once every 8 years (the sacrifice isn't actually killed, just a cup full of there blood is taken on top of this special rock and give to the dragon to drink. Then, they go off and live regular lives). Not too bad. But, when the dragon shows up this time-early-the dragon rider takes her instead of the blood intending to bring her back to his land and, as we find out, slice her open from top to bottom and let the dragon drink her dry. Yes, that's about how it was described. Apparantly, in order for a dragon to have an egg, they have to eat this special blood the princess' family has and because the last dragon didn't get any blood apparantly there's been some crisis and there won't be any dragons. Now, the reasons for this aren't really answered and it's a little confusing so I won't get into it. what I found really disturbing was the dragon constantly talking about the princess' blood as 'yummy', how dragon drool was considered an aphrodisiac, how they ate food chewed up in the dragon's mouth (it was just one gross thing after another, frankly), but the most disturbing part was when the princess is laying on the dragon rock, on some weird drug. The dragon has slit open her thighs and the princess is rolling around laughing giddily and begging the dragon to 'take more! take more!" . I can't even describe how disturbing the scene was to me. If you're the slightest bit squeamish, skip this one.

The second story is more your traditional english dragon story. A knight is hired to kill a dragon that's supposedly been torching local villages. He saves a young woman, discovers she part dragon and the main dragon is her grandfather. They fall love while fighting a local evil Lord. It was a sweet story and very reminiscent of a vintage romance. The author also had a unique take on what a dragons 'hoard' was. I liked this one.

The third story took us to Japan where the hero is a dragon that shapeshifts into a samuri. This one should have been better. The main problem was the heroine, who acted in an absurd way, especially given this is supposed to take place in the 1600's. For instance, at the opening of the book she is contemplating having to go to work as a low class prostitute becuase she has no friends, no money, etc(she's been in the country for at least 4 years with her now dead parents with the blessing of the emperor and yet she doesn't have 1 friend in the country???). The next chapter up, she's traveling by herself (despite a couple who tried to get her a guard and warned her that they'd been set up by ruffians frequently in the area)when, of course, she's attacked. When the dragon/samuri kills them (after she prays for someone to save her) she chides him for killing them and then just planning to leave them there and then becomes offended when he tries to pick her up and carry her to her pony since she's sprained her ankle. Now, if it were me and I'd just been attacked by men who said they were going to rape and then sell me to the whoremonger, I wouldn't be that upset if they died. but, that's just me. She continues to act in a similar stupid way through-out the book. I was sad, because the author could have had a truly unique story if she'd just written the heroine's character differently.

The last story takes place in the southwest. This was a contemporary story and while it wasn't bad...it wasn't good either. I kept expecting something different to what happened and honestly, it was a disapointment. And, the explaination was a bit of a confusing stretch. They're supposed to protect and hide a bright pink dragon living under her house and yet, everyone knows where she is???

Over all, I was disapointed by this anthology. For a book titled 'dragon lovers' there weren't too many lovers that were dragons-just people around dragons. They did try to put together stories with different types of dragons, which I applaud, but there just weren't enough good romances to make the book worth keeping. And, I have to admit, I felt slightly sick after finishing that first one and it tainted the others a bit. I problably should have waited a day or two before going on to the other stories. I'd get this one from the libarary if you can.

2 out of 5 stars Bland and Undeveloped.......2007-06-27

The short story can be a difficult artistic creation, and this book proves it. Writers that I've admired and read for years and two with whom I'm less familiar attempt short stories in the burgeoning genre of paranormal romance and, unfortunately, fail to create real dramatic tension or believable romantic dynamics. The closest thing to a memorable creation is the dragon from Barbara Samuel's "Dragon Feathers," which is at least more genuinely unique than the other stories. All of them, though, felt forced and contrived. Nothing in the plots truly flowed from character and situation, and the obstacles and villains never rose above the ho-hum. While I do prefer a spicier scene much of the time, the most regrettable part of these stories as romance was the contrived nature of each pairing. There was nothing that came across with depth. Perhaps I would have felt less offended with the half-baked nature of these stories if they had been offered in the standard paperback size and standard paperback pricing, but I paid premium trade paperback pricing for sub-par storytelling. I should have taken the Publisher's Weekly review more seriously. These stories honestly are frothy bits of gooey candy, not the well-crafted fiction writing that forms the backbone of recent paranormal genre-blending.

If you're looking for a more substantial story involving romance and dragons, consider Shanna Abe's The Smoke Thief and The Dream Thief, two relatively short novels with real tension, character-driven decisions and stories that mingle adventure and romance with the subject of dragons, each element contributing an integral share of the story.

Step inside the pages of DRAGON LOVERS to find worlds where dragons still live and fantasy reigns supreme....

Jo Beverly opens up this anthology with "The Dragon and the Virgin Princess". Princess Rozlinda has been trained to be the Sacrificial Virgin Princes (SVP) all her life. She is thrilled that her time as the SVP is about to come to an end, when the dragon arrives one year early. A mysterious man intervenes and all that Rozlinda knows is about to change.

"The Dragon and the Virgin Princess" is one highly amusing story! Rozlinda is a strong female character and her willingness to take on what she sees as her SVP obligations is commendable. Jo Beverly demonstrates that a female character can be empowered even when in a rather traditional role. Seesee, the dragon, definitely steals the show as she adds a unique flavor to Ms. Beverly's tale. "The Dragon and the Virgin Princess" was definitely the highlight of DRAGON LOVERS for this reviewer, as the humor interspersed with a unique perspective on cultural diversity made this an interesting and unforgettable romantic tale.

"The Dragon and the Dark Knight" by Mary Jo Putney is a charming tale that hearkens back to the more traditional romance. Sir Kenrick of Rathbourne intends to slay the dragon menacing the people under the jurisdiction of Lord William of Penruth. Things go awry, and Kenrick finds himself under the care of Ariane. Will love conquer all for Kenrick and Ariane?

Mary Jo Putney definitely knows how to write a powerful romance! The romance between Kenrick and Ariane is sweetly sensual as each accepts the other despite their supposed flaws. The surprising twist by Ms. Putney adds just the right amount of punch needed to spice this tale up. "The Dragon and the Dark Knight" is an entertaining and fun read.

"Anna and the King of Dragons" by Karen Harbaugh adds a bit of international flavor with a setting of Japan in the 1600s. Dutch native Anna Vanderzee finds herself alone and basically penniless in Japan after the sudden death of her parents. A chance encounter with a dragon changes everything when he saves her life. Anna agrees to provide the dragon with her father's scholarly books in exchange and thus sets an entirely new course for her life.

Karen Harbaugh immerses the reader into the culture of Japan in the 1600s. Anna's adherence to the dictates of the Japanese culture is enlightening, but it is her willingness and determination to keep her promises that make her such an admirable character. I particularly enjoyed the character of samurai Nakagawa Toshiro as his sense of honor and duty provided a unique flair to the story. "Anna and the King of Dragons" is perhaps one of the more unusual tales in DRAGON LOVERS.

Barbara Samuels concludes DRAGON LOVERS with her tale entitled "Dragon Feathers". Penny Freeman is ecstatic over her opportunity to study with the famous weaver in Santa Fe. The move is a refreshing change after the loss of her husband last year. But something is odd about the house she has purchased.... And just what is up with all of the feathers?

What an incredibly beautiful story! Barbara Samuels paints such vivid images that one can easily envision each scene as it unfolds. The twists and turns were wonderfully done as Ms. Samuels provides some interesting surprises. Joaquin's role emerges as the story progresses. However, it is Penny herself who makes this tale work as she has one of the more unusual roles in the anthology. "Dragon Feathers" is a stunning tale!

DRAGON LOVERS will relish this offering from four very talented authors. Each author provides the reader with a different perspective on dragons. The range in styles and settings ensure that most readers will find something to appeal to their tastes. DRAGON LOVERS is a worthy addition to my keeper shelf!

5 out of 5 stars Great anthology.......2007-06-08

I really enjoyed all the stories in this anthology. My favorite was "Anna and the King of Dragons" by Karen Harbaugh--I really liked the setting in the Japan of samurai and shoguns. Coming in a close second was "The Dragon and the Virgin Princess" by Jo Beverly. I enjoyed the other 2 stories by Mary Jo Putney and Barbara Samuel, but not enough to reread them.

5 out of 5 stars Romantic fantasy fun.......2007-04-04

Dragon Lovers is a very nice combination of romance and fantasy and although I enjoyed all the stories, I was most impress with Anna and the King of Dragons and Dragon Feather.

Anna and the King of Dragons steps outside of the normal historical/European dragon mode; it takes on the myth of Asian dragons and culture. I was very impressed with this one, and would love to see a sequel or this story expanded into a full-lenght novel. It was very well written and had a very captivating plot. I liked the mixing of cultures, which you don't find very often in romance novels, especially in historicals. The added fantasy was a bonus.

Dragon Feather was an unusual and serious romance placed in modern times. I didn't care for it the first time I read it, but after re-reading it, because I realized I rushed through it, I found it touching, with characters that weren't your typical ones.

The other two stories were well written and very fascinating, and I enjoyed them too, but I can't help but pick my favorites. If you like dragons and romance ( this is not for serious fantasy fans ) you will enjoy this book. Also, I gave it 5 stars, just for the last two, and best, stories in the anthology.

1 out of 5 stars Parallel Attraction was a big stinker.......2007-08-03

I'm glad I got this book from the library and didn't spend any money buying it, because this book was awfull, I can't beleive anyone really liked it. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi & paranormal romance books, but this story sucked, I did'nt like any of the people in the book and the romance was lame.

5 out of 5 stars Stellar series.......2007-04-01

Even if you've never read o series before or never plan to, you must read this one because Deidra has really wrote romance for the future. I predict many awards going her way.

5 out of 5 stars Exquisite debut paranormal romance!.......2007-03-24

Parallel Attraction captures all the great themes of battle, love and betrayal, the possible extinction of a great race with original, intriguing variations. The Wyoming setting and references to Jackson, Laramie and Yellowstone suffused with alien worlds and technology entice the imagination. Even though there are only a few scenes where the romance is sexually explicit, Knight creates a wild, hot passion that far surpasses earthly romance. Her writing style itself romances the reader by slowly and seductively adding pleasure upon pleasure. Just when the reader thinks they have reached the height of reading pleasure, she gives more... humor, a perfect unexpected twist that opens the heart and imagination, a unique shift, and an addition to the familiar paradigms of the great literary classics.... Although alien and different, the great Refarian king recalls to the reader the legend of great earthly king Arthur. A stunning debut novel! An exquisite paranormal romance!

Although technically not an Arthurian romance, Arthur fans will delight in the subtle hints and undertones in this novel. Deidre Knight's Parallel Attraction will capture the heart and soul of anyone whose imagination has ever paused at the shores of Avalon and wondered what could have happened to the greatest king and queen in history.

Rating: On a scale of 1-5, as fan of Arthurian romance, I would rate this book as a 7. This is one of those rare books where, instead of racing through the book, I slowed my reading pace way down. I was intoxicated by the very language and imagery.

4 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable!.......2007-03-01

Kelsey Wells, geologist, meets Jared Bennett, the Refarian alien king in Yellowstone when they are both teenagers. They spend time together on earth before Jared's mentor, who wipes the memory of their meeting from their minds, takes him back. Years later they meet again and thus ensues a romance and adventure.

I thought this science fiction romance had a beautiful love story. We actually see more of Jared's character as a great deal of the book is from his viewpoint. I agree with one of the reviewers that this book does not really take off until the middle and once it does, it throws a completely new spin on the action. It took me quite by surprise after the first of the book deals mainly with their growing relationship. There were some very touching scenes that made me cry. The love scenes were beautiful. I absolutely enjoyed this book and will definitely read the others in this new Novel of Midnight Warriors series.

5 out of 5 stars Parallel Attraction: Wonderful Read.......2007-02-17

Parallel Attraction's unique plot and three dimensional characters made this book stand out and capture my attention.

This book has everything I love about paranormal romance: a sexy alien hero, a strong heroine worthy of him, suspense, romance and out-of-this-world danger and mayhem.

Jared Bennett is a king without a country, a warrior, a freedom fighter.
He fights against a deadly enemy for control of a powerful weapon. He refuses to tell Kelsey all that is occurring to protect her.

Kelsey Wells falls in love with the sexy alien and her entire world changes. By not telling Kelsey all, Jared has placed her in danger.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the Midnight Warrior series. A powerful, wonderful read.

4 out of 5 stars Private Demon Review.......2007-05-18

I gave this book four stars. I would have given it three, but the premise of the Darkyn is very compelling. It's the romance that is lacking here. I'm not sure if the author considers it intregal to the development of the stories or if she just tosses it in to move to the next scene. The romance is just not well done. The author has yet to convince me that the characters she's created have achieved believable levels of intimacy. The development surrounding the romance is slight. I'll keep reading because I like the Darkyn. Maybe the author should focus on the world of the Darkyn and leave the romance out. It really throws off the flow of the story because it jangles while the rest of the story jingles.

2 out of 5 stars "NOT A ROMANCENOVEL".......2007-03-26

There is nothing worse then setting your appetite for a chocolate muffin and ending up with bran; that is just what this novel is bran. The Arthur has disguised her fantasy/horror novel as romance-it is not. I am so glad I checked the book out from the library instead of buying it.

2 out of 5 stars Alpha Male, Wimpy Female.......2006-07-11

This book suffers greatly from what I call 'Alpha-Male-Wimpy-Female-itis'. Unfortunately that seems to be a running theme with quite a few vampire romances these days. One would think a guy who lives forever would want a mate who could at least keep up.

Jema Shaw was the classic 'wait for the knight in shining armour to rescue me' type heroine that always makes me gag. Using her 'diabetes' as an excuse (which we later learn really wasn't) didn't sit well with me either - knowing quite a few diabetics who aren't so weak-willed as this. Jema's got an overbearing mother (ho hum) who became paralyzed in a tragic cave accident who uses her malady to keep Jema on a very short leash. I just kept waiting, turning page after torturous page, hoping Jema would get some backbone and tell Mommy Dearest to take a flying leap.

And Thierry...a character who definitely intrigued me from the first novel of the series, but who somehow never quite transcends his angst-ridden demeanor. He uses his powers to enter Jema's dreams having fallen in love with her at first glance. He seemed pretty one-dimensional to me, always rescuing the stupid heroine who doesn't seem to know that being rich doesn't guarantee that one won't get attacked by thugs.

The saving grace of this novel just so happens to be the strong-willed Dr. Alexandra Keller, whom, now Darkyn, seeks a cure for vampirism while making her mate, Muchael Cyprien's life very interesting. Unlike Jema, Alex doesn't take her new un-life lying down. Alex's brother John returns as well; now defrocked by choice after his run-in with The Bretheren, he finds himself working in a runaway house run by a former skinhead, now priest, who has some rather nasty things to say about mixed-race children, including the way confused Keller.

So much for all of us being god's children.

Interestingly enough, race plays a greater role in this book, but in a disturbing way, and I'm not sure if it was necessary to bring in skinheads on a murder streak. It made for a convoluted tale which of course has a lot of loose ends to tie (obviously the next book).

I'm beginning to wonder if the vampire-romance genre is finally on its last legs. Or maybe, it's time to stop writing endlessly about vampire men and give some hot-looking undead women vamps a chance to shine.

5 out of 5 stars Original.......2006-07-10

I've read a lot of fantasy/horror what ever you want to call it. If it has a vampire/were-animal/etc, I've read it. So many of them take an idea and give it a twist. Which is ok for the most part. Lynn Viehl truly came up with an original story line. It was good reading and hard to put down. I'm excited to have found a new author to add to my favorites!

5 out of 5 stars Intriguing Novel!.......2006-06-30

Truly an original vampire concept! This book was much better than the first. Very fast paced novel which kept you guessing and wanting more. This book also answered a lot of unanswered questions leftover from the first book.

For all of you critics that complained about the first book being listed in the Romance section, this book is surely more your style. I will have to admit that the first book lacked romance (which didn't bother me one bit since I bought it online and didn't even check what "section" it was listed in). This book however was mostly romance based, which should make the romance fans happy.

I still favor the Anita Blake series more than this one, but I would gladly recommend this highly original and unique series to anyone that asks. It has a strong plot filled with subplots and surprises, strong willed characters overflowing with great 3D personalities, and the story is actually believable and "plausible". There is no real "good" vs. "evil", just many different shades of grey which is actually fairly realistic, along with a wonderful idea of a scientific explanation for "vampirism".

A MUST read for vampire fans.

Madeline Baker can write Native American romance better than anyone I
have ever read, because to her the story and the Indian hero are more
important than the sex. Hope to see a lot more from her.

Yuma Prison - Arizona Territory.
What a nasty Hell hole.
How does one survive the brutish mentality of the guards, especially when you know that you are not guilty of the crime for which you are incarcerated?

Four and a half years have led Nathan Chasing Elk to the point of trying to excape one last time. He has to find his daughter, he has not heard of her in almost 3 years.

Catherine Lyons is struggling to protect herself from Marteen the Apache who wants her for his woman while waiting for her brother, Mark to return. Well she has had it. She decides to strike out for Finley's Crossing and head east.

Marteen seems to bring Chasing Elk and Catherine together.
Catherine takes Nathan back to her ranch house. As time passes they are both under survalience by the Apaches and decide it is time to move out.

Chasing Elk can't leave Catherine behind as she seems to fascinate him. We get to follow them on a dirty, dusty trek across the Territory in search of Leah, Nathan's daughter.

Oh, oh Marteen is back.
Then a broken leg holds them up until there is danger of Nathan being recognized. There is another long trek to the Dakotas in search of Nathan's mother and her People.

This leads to a very important education for Cate and Leah when they finally find and make a summer home [after marriage]with Macawi and her family. Ah, but there is one more desperate rescue that Nathan must perform with the help of his step-father.

But, oh boy, Nathan finds out that Jim Buckner is in the vicinity and he decides to wreak his vengence on the man. Even bringing him in to the sheriff does not stop the miscarriage of justice once again. Will Nathan ever get to see Catherine and Leah again?

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED [hey, no premarital sex and the story is still great.]

4 out of 5 stars I loved it!.......2006-07-23

I couldn't put this book down. It is the first Madeline Baker book I have read, but it won't be the last. I really liked the way she tied in geographic history with a very exciting plot and a very sensual love story. I really appreciated that the characters had high morals and showed that you can have desires and control them until the proper time!! and find REAL love.

4 out of 5 stars tense Indian romance .......2006-01-03

It has been four years six months and counting since Jim Buckner arranged for Chasing Elk to be sent to Yuma Prison, a hell hole of abuse from the likes of guard Fat Tom. Only revenge and seeing his daughter Leah keeps Chasing Elk going. When an opportunity arrives to escape, he takes it, but is severely injured in the process.

With her parents recently dead and Apache Marteen wanting rancher Catharine Lyons as his woman, she so far she has refused him using the excuse that her man is coming for her though she knows she will not have much time left to say no. She either must return to Boston or he will take her as her brother Mark is no protection. When a near dead Chasing Elk reaches her ranch at about the same time as Marteen and his retinue of braves, she claims he is her husband. The stranger agrees. As Catharine nurses Chasing Elk back to physical health and he begins to work the ranch, an attraction between them arises. However, Marten wants him dead; the law wants him in prison; Chasing Elk wants his daughter; Catharine wants his love. However, first his mind must heal if he lives long enough.

DAKOTA DREAMS is a tense Indian romance starring a courageous heroine and a battered male with demons screaming at him to avenge the death of his wife and to bring his daughter home, which he wants to believe, is at Catharine's ranch. The character driven tale is loaded with plenty of action as the key players will converge in a showdown. Though the support cast seems somewhat one dimensional, Madeline Baker's latest nineteenth century star-crossed romance contains a fresh fun story line.

What could possibly be better than a great romantic suspense book? A book that includes stories from three of my favorite romantic suspense authors! With HOT PURSUIT you get a range of stories packed with mystery, action, adventure, and sizzling passion. When you read stories by Karen Rose, Annie Solomon, and Carla Cassidy, you know you're going to get a thrill ride.

Karen Rose, author of the 2005 RITA winning I'm Watching You, brings us DIRTY SECRETS, a story about lost opportunities and the chance to do things over. Dr. Emma Townsend is a woman trying to put her life back together. A woman who wrote a best-selling book about dealing with grief, she's not having a lot of luck dealing with her own after the death of her husband, Will, who was killed during an apparent convenience story robbery. The nineteen-year-old robber was sentenced to life without parole in prison, but it's small consolation to Emma, who misses her husband dearly. Then, while cleaning out her house of her late husband's belongings, she finds an old letter in her high-school yearbook-a letter from her best guy-friend, Chris, declaring his love for her and letting her know he'd be waiting if she wanted to see if their friendship could turn into something more.

Seventeen years ago, Christopher Walker was left with a broken heart when Emma Townsend never spoke to him again after their junior prom. He'd felt something that night, something that caused him to confess his love for Emma in a letter and slip it into her yearbook. Those days are long over, though, and these days Chris has a whole lot more on his mind. For one, there's his young daughter, Megan, to worry about, and secondly, there's the fact that one of his graduate students has been murdered in his chemistry lab. As the authorities question Chris about the murder of Darrell Roberts, he gets the feeling that there's more to the murder than meets the eye-and that he himself might be a target. Then, out of the blue comes a call from a private investigator with the news that Emma Townsend is looking for him, and things really start to get interesting.

As these two people try to reconnect from a shared past, over a passion that may or may not still linger, danger lurks in the shadows. Who is after Chris, and was Emma's husband's death really an accident? Can their newfound romance survive the danger that's all around them?

Annie Solomon, author of Blind Curve (Warner Forever) and Like a Knife, brings us a winning suspense story with NECESSARY BETRAYALS. Ever since Francesca Burn's father was sent to prison five years ago for his association with mob leader Arturo Calvino, Frannie has concentrated on her younger sister, Gina, and leading an above-board life by severing all ties with the Calvino family. Until fifteen-year-old Gina calls her on a cell phone with a bad connection, crying frantically, and the only words Frannie can understand in her sister's dialogue are "can you hear me?" and "Calvino." Frannie, frantic for her wild sister's safety, abruptly leaves her job as a waitress at Sal's and rushes home, only to find her sister isn't there. With no other options at hand, she heads to the Calvino compound-a place where someone is always at home, a place that is never truly silent. Except the way is blocked by an army of police vehicles, and who should stop her but Detective Quinn Parker Lewis. The same Quinn Parker she had foolishly thought she was in love with five years ago, until he managed to get her father sent to prison.

For Quinn Parker, the takedown of Francesca's father in his undercover police work nearly killed him. Not the takedown itself, but the fact that he lost Frannie-her friendship, her smile, her growing love. She saw him as the man who sent her father away, and she was right. Quinn went on a three-month drinking binge, nearly lost his job, and finally asked to be transferred out of undercover work. Now here he is, once again in Frannie's company, dealing with the Calvino's and their crime network. With Gina in danger, it's up to Quinn and Frannie to find out where she is-and how to get her back.

As the emotions from the past come rushing back, will the two of them be able to defeat the bad guys, rescue Gina, and save their love at the same time?

ENDLESS NIGHT by Carla Cassidy, author of The Perfect Family (Signet Eclipse), gives us the tale of a blind date gone horribly wrong. Amanda Kincaid agrees to a blind date for one reason only-to get her sister, Cara, and brother-in-law, Harry, off of her back. They won't quit harping about her love life-or lack of one-and swear up and down that Clay Murdock is just the man for her. The only problem is, as soon as she meets him, Amanda realizes that tall, dark, handsome, and single are just cover-ups for dull, boring, and absolutely not her type at all. As for Clay, who agrees to the date for the sake of his gym-buddy Harry, he doesn't find Amanda the least bit interesting on their double date with Cara and Harry.

Until, that is, Amanda gives Clay a ride home-and things take on the feel of an action-adventure movie. As Clay is exiting Amanda's car, someone starts taking potshots at them, with a real, live gun. Clay has no choice but to hop back into the car and order Amanda to "floor it", and since she's too stunned to do anything else, she does what she's told. Suddenly, their boring date has turned into an escape from bullets and bad guys, and Clay has no intention of letting Amanda out of his sight until the danger has passed. When Clay finally admits to his date that he was once a police officer who is now in the Witness Protection Program, Amanda realizes that her boring blind date might be a bit more interesting that she'd previously thought.

As Amanda and Clay concoct a plan to thwart the person or persons responsible for Clay being in the WPP to begin with, their chemistry starts to go through the roof. Now all they have to do is live through the next couple of days and find out if it's something worth pursuing.

HOT PURSUIT is a romantic suspense winner! You don't want to miss this anthology of three great stories by three very talented authors!

3 out of 5 stars Man in Tow.......2006-08-04

I only read the second & third stories. I skipped the first story by Karen Rose as I was not keen to read her works.

Annie Solomon - 1 star. Annie Solomon has written some stellar works and I have read two of them. But this short story fell very short of her trademark let me shock you crime stories. Its simply a story about a girl having a crush on an undercover detective who betrayed her family a couple of years ago. The dialogue & action were dull and rather tepid. In short, a disappointment.

Carla Cassidy - 5 stars. Carla did a fantastic job with the short story. The strong mystery pull was there in the form of a blind date who took the protagonist lady character on a whirlwind car chase that kept getting out of control as the story progresses. Carla tends to portray domesticated women who may seem rather docile on first impression but turn out to have intelligence & strength of character. Great read.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Pursuit is a must have read........2006-01-17

Hot Pursuit is a spine tingling anthology of romance and suspense at its best.

Dirty Secrets by Karen Rose has Professor Christopher Walker devastated by the death of one of his research students. Back in the Midwest PHD Emma Townsend comes across an old love letter stuck in her high school yearbook. A letter she never knew about from her best friend Chris Walker. Emma decides to track down Chris and apologize. But before they can explore this new romance the danger surrounding Chris is shifter to Emma. Dirty Secrets is fast paces, full of intrigue and deep-seated Passion.

Annie Solomon's Necessary Betrayals has Francesca Berns a mobster's daughter trying to start a new life. When her sister disappears she is forced to work with the undercover cop you had betrayed her, Detective Quinn Lewis. As they search for the missing girl all those buried feelings come roaring back to life. This story has a lot of twist and turns that will keep you on your toes.

Endless Night by Carla Cassidy start out with Amanda Kincaid on the most boring blind date of her life. Her sister thought Clay Murdock would be perfect for her. Luckily the date is over and Amanda is driving Clay home. Next thing she knows they are being shot at and are on the run for their lives. Getting to the bottom of the shooting will take all of Amanda and Clay's wits. They pack a lot into a first date.

Hot Pursuit is a top-notch anthology of Romantic Suspense.

4 out of 5 stars This really is more like 3 1/2 stars.......2005-12-31

Hot Pursuit is a collection of mini stories each written by a different author. As a whole the book is mediocre. Individually each story is not great, but good for a light read. Is it worth the money? I bought it and don't necessarily regret it, but if you happen to see it in a library some day, you may want to check it out instead. It's not one I particularly consider worth holding on to for years to come if that helps any.

Dirty Secrets by Karen Rose is the story of two high school friends who shared a brief chance at romance, but were too shy to tell the other how each felt. Years later, Emma finds a letter from Christopher tucked away in an old yearbook professing his secret fondness for her. Thinking that she broke his heart, Emma finds him to apologize. Little does she know that just reconnecting with the man puts her life in danger as well as his. There is a killer out there that will stop at nothing to make sure his secret remains that way and the two old friends may just know more than they realize.
I have read all of Karen Rose's novels and loved the first two, but have noticed her style changing. She seems to be conforming to the average writer with typical pacing rather than the fast, suspense filled romantic mystery she began with. Dirty Secrets was good, but not great in comparison to what this author could be writing.

Necessary Betrayals by Annie Solomon was great. It is exactly what a romantic suspense should be. It grabs you from the beginning, pulling you into the characters lives and when you realize that the story is quickly about to end, you want it to continue. Unfortunately, the ending didn't shock me but then very few authors do. There were not enough red herrings in this particular novel in my opinion to have you suspect anyone else. However, the writing was well done and this mini book was the best in the set.
Francesca receives a disturbing call from her thirteen year old sister that connects the girl to a mob boss found dead that same night. Now her sister is missing and the only man who can help her is Quinn, the man she fell in love with who betayed her years earlier and broke her heart. In a fast paced race to find Francesca's sister the two find themselves unraveling the mystery behind what happened at the mobster's home as well as running from a gunman. Reluctant to give in to the passion that once flamed between the two, they realize that sometimes it takes a life or death situation to realize how much you still care.

The final short story in this book is Endless Night by Carla Cassidy. It moves quickly, but then how could it not when the whole story is only 59 pages long. The author definitely could have drawn this story out a little longer continuing with the suspense and developing the character's attraction more thoroughly, but for a quick read it was fairly decent. Just don't expect any sort of mystery to this story. It was simply a short fictional story with a touch of romance to it.
Amanda and Clay begin the night by going on a blind date that they both loathe. Before dropping Clay off at his place, someone shoots at Amanda's car sending them into a highspeed chase ultimately leaving them to hide out until they find out what is going on. Faced with only each other's company and the thrill of the chase, Amanda and Clay find that they like one another far more than they originally thought. Together they find the answers to bring down a killer.

3 out of 5 stars Hot Pursuit.......2005-12-26

Once upon a time, Emma and Christopher were friends, but they had drifted apart. Now, when Dirty Secrets lead to deadly trouble, the two will reunite to solve a mystery and perhaps get a second chance to be more than friends. Karen Rose delivers an excellent mini-novel to start off the story collection. Necessary Betrayals by Annie Solomon is the star of the group. Quinn Parker put Francesca's father in jail and broke her heart, but when her sister is kidnapped, she turns to him to get the girl back, never dreaming how high a price Quinn may have to pay. Finally, in Endless Night, a blind date turns into something dangerous, and Clay will have to save Amanda's life before the date is over.

*** Annie Solomon's story is the winning entry, but Karen Rose's is also worthwhile. Carla Cassidy's story is one you can take or leave, but the other two are worth the price of the entire collection. ***

3 out of 5 stars The entire Eclipse Bay trilogy in one neat package.......2006-04-21

Before you get excited and say - wow, a follow up to the Eclipse bay trilogy, be warned that "Together in Eclipse Bay" is compilation which includes the entire Eclipse Bay trilogy dramatizing the modern-day Hatfield and McCoy-style family feud between the Harte and Madison families or a coastal Oregon town.

Eclipse Bay ~ A matchmaking aunt wants to end a 3-generation feud by willing her estate to her niece Hannah Harte and Rafe Madison, the grandson of the rival family, hoping to unite them in romance and put an end to the feud once and for all. This is the best of the bunch.

Dawn in Eclipse Bay ~ When he is not able to make a love match, workaholic Gabe Madison insists that professional matchmaker Lillian Harte either find him one more date, or be his date, They manage to ignite a fiery passion despite the history between their families.

Summer in Eclipse Bay ~ After losing his wife in a car accident, lothario Nick Harte has met his match in sexy gallery owner Octavia Brightwell. She has a distant link to the Madison family. She likes him, but does not want to get involved since her great aunt sparked the family feud.

All three are exceptional is all I can say. What a wonderful way to read the triology, one of Jane's best.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Three Favorites.......2004-04-27

A great way to purchase three of my favorite Krentz novels in one book: Eclipse Bay, Dawn in Eclipse Bay and Summer in Eclipse Bay. All three books deal with the Harte and Madison families and the resolution of a feud that began 30 years before. My favorite is "Dawn"; the love story between Gabe and Lillian is delightful.

5 out of 5 stars Three Hits.......2005-12-05

These are three hot steamy reads penned by LuAnn McLane, set in a small town of Sander's City which has a love for baseball making for a steamy read both on and off the field.

Hot August Nights pits the high school principal Erin O'Shea, who is prim and proper just like when she was in high school against the former bad boy pro-pitcher Michael Manning, who has had a career ending injury but was the wild kid from high school. Some things never change, or do they. When Michael takes on the coaching job at the school, sparks fly and tensions mount between the two and he finally realizes that his career may have ended but a new life has certainly begun.

Heatwave finds recently divorced Josey Cooper trying to do a makeover of herself with a new wardrobe and hair for all to see but still has a long way to go to be more confident of herself. Especially when Chase Mitchell, the manager of the baseball team shows an interest in her. There is major heat when the two are around each other but can Chase convince Josey he is a forever kind of guy?

Hotshot is the story of Reese Taylor who is the pitcher known for his cockiness both on and off the field. Halley Forrester is the physical education teacher who is on a dare. When things heat up between them and become steamy Halley vows to get past his defences and to get to know the real Reese. They have their differences to work through but in the end realize that love can conquer all.

All these spicy , sensual stories flow together and are well done by LuAnn. If you like steam, spicy romantic reads then this book is for you and won't disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars Home run!! Very entertaining and sexy!! A page turner!.......2005-08-05

This is the first book I read from this author, but it will not be the last. I really love the way she writes. Sexy funny and romantic! I could not put the book down. It's a sparkly triple-header that will leave you wanting more!

5 out of 5 stars Hot! Torrid! Sizzling! **Grade: A minus**.......2004-09-08

If SEX IN THE CITY, lightly covered in a baseball outfit, sounds intriguing than LuAnn McLane's, HOT SUMMER NIGHTS, is your reading ticket. I'm rating this A minus because . . . well because it was entertaining . . . and the joy of reading IS to be entertained!

HOT SUMMER NIGHTS is three sultry stories embracing small town USA, a love of baseball, and hot sex.

HOT AUGUST NIGHT:
Two old high school acquaintances meet again and begin a new and different relationship.

In school, Erin O'Shea was the ugly little duckling, the duckling who bloomed into the desirable woman. Michael Manning was "the" high school guy, the pitching star who made the big leagues. But now he is home, looking for a job, and for something missing under the big city lights. Torridly, he gets the job, the girl, and the missing piece in his life.

HEAT WAVE:
Josey Cooper is a remade divorced woman. Trying to rebuild her self-esteem, Josey is terrified to fall in love again. Chase Mitchell wants to settle down, but feels woman want him because he is/was a famous pro athlete. He feels like a conquest.

Note -- This was the only entry with an unsettling obstacle. Chase's quick anger is hard to take. The author wants the reader to believe he feels used, but his childlike behavior fills the reader with a lingering uncomfortable feeling.

HOTSHOT:
Now this was the fun story - ladies out on the town celebrating a bachelorette night. A group of friends having fun, growing bolder with each alcoholic sip, and wagering outrageous dares. Dares that ends their night and changes their lives.

The dare made Halley Forrester do it! But the enchantment sealed it! Reese Taylor is a dynamite pitcher who needs an attitude adjustment. Halley is that alignment.

If you are in the mood for a light hot read, then check out LuAnn McLane's, HOT SUMMER NIGHTS. Fun stuff!

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining erotic read.......2004-08-21

First two stories were great...I skipped the last one entirely. I wish it had said somewhere on the cover that the third story was a multicultural romance--I've never read any and didn't think I'd like it. The first two stories, however, were very good and I enjoyed them. I would rather the last story was left out and paid less for the book!

5 out of 5 stars A scorcher of a book.......2004-08-06

Hot Summer Nights by LuAnn McLane more then lives up to the billing of an Erotic Triple Header.

Hot August Night has high school principal Erin O'Shea trying to decide if she should hire former pro pitcher Michael Manning to job of head varsity baseball coach. Michael was the wild preachers kid and Erin the geeky good girl in high school but they both have changed. Michael is back to get some purpose in his life after a career ending injury. As these two butt heads over the job, they really steam up those summer nights.

Josey Cooper has done a post-divorce make over in Heat Wave. Though she looks different on the outside, she still has a truckload of insecurities on the inside. When the sexy manager of the local baseball farm team shows an interest, she can't put her trust in it. Chase Mitchell has had enough of baseball babes and is looking for a real woman to settle down with him. Chase and Josey in a room together causes a major heat alert.

Hotshot pitcher Reese Taylor has always had to proof himself on and off the field. He isn't prepared to be attracted to straight-laced teacher, Halley Forrester. Halley realizes Reese's cockiness is just an act. She vows to get to know this man. Reese and Halley really do set the pages on fire.

All three stories are intensely sensually and witty. The chemistry between all the characters is deeply moving and tantalizing. Each story really flows right into the next one. This is a must buy book.

Book Description

Celebrated for more than fifty years as a world-renowned novelist, essayist, and political figure and commentator, Gore Vidal is less known for the exquisitely crafted short fiction he wrote as a young man. Like the work of Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams, his stories have been overshadowed by the author’s triumphs writing in other genres. Still, Vidal’s short fiction offers us a portrait of the young artist in the 1940s and 1950s. His subtle and comic tales often center on adolescence and homosexual themes. In Three Stratagems, a middle-aged gay man encounters a male prostitute while vacationing in Key West. In The Zenner Trophy, the star athlete at an elite boys school is expelled for sexual relations with a classmate. These stories were gathered along with five others into a 1956 volume, A Thirsty Evil, and for decades were thought to comprise Vidal’s complete short fiction.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Uneven.......2007-01-25

I enjoyed the short preface very much, but the stories were of uneven quality. "Erlinda and Mr. Coffin" is exotic, fun, and while some social observations are made, it is a story written for the pleasure of spinning a tale. "Pages from an Abandoned Journal" is interesting and offers some insight into the lifestyle of a segment of the gay population. "Clounds and Eclipses", the hitherto unpublished story based on a childhood recollection of Tennessee Williams, is without merit, and the first story of the collection should be skipped.
